England add SA and NZ tours to packed 2023 schedule: Report
England will tour South Africa in January 2023 for an ODI series and New Zealand in February of the year for two Tests
England is set to tour South Africa for a three-match ODI series in January 2023 which will followed by a two-Test series against New Zealand in February, according to a report by ESPNCricinfo.
With the T20 World Cup pushed back from February-March 2020 to October-November 2021 due to the pandemic, England and Wales Board had to postpone their ODI series against South African from December 2020 to January 2023. The New Zealand tour following it will not be part of the World Test Championship cycle much like the two-match series the Kiwis played in England just before the inaugural WTC final.
Their tour of Bangladesh has also been pushed back to March 2023 which makes it five different tours for the ODI world champions starting with the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. The Three Lions will play three ODIs against Australia after the World Cup and then the delayed tour of Pakistan for three Tests before moving to South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

Graeme Smith: South Africa to host Australia, England tours in 2023
- ESPNcricinfo staff
Graeme Smith , CSA's director of cricket, has confirmed that South Africa are planning to host rescheduled tours by Australia and England in 2023.
The Australia Test series, which was called off in February last year over concerns around Covid-19, is set to be played in August 2023. England, as previously reported by ESPNcricinfo , are scheduled to tour in the winter of 2022-23 to fulfil a three-match ODI series that was postponed for similar reasons in December 2020.
Nick Hockley, the chief executive of Cricket Australia, had previously indicated that a window for 2023 had been agreed on by the two boards. South Africa do not often host international tours in August, but did play Tests against New Zealand in Centurion and Durban then in 2016 .
"England, I think, is around Feb-March next year and then Australia is in August 2023 to replace the [Test series postponed in 2021]. That will be announced sometime soon," Smith said when interviewed by host broadcaster, SuperSport, during the Cape Town Test against India.
"With series lost in Covid and the challenge is you have eight white-ball events in eight years now, you have got IPL extending - trying to fit your calendar cycle in is a great challenge for everybody. So you need to review, you need to stay with the times. And you need to make sure we keep putting South African cricket on the map.
"Our team - both men and women - needs to be performing well and be recognised and people want to play us. But we need to make sure when things are happening in world cricket South Africa is at the forefront."
As well as causing a fixture pile-up, not playing during the pandemic has hit CSA's bottom line - the Australia cancellation resulted in losses to the tune of Rand 30 million (US$ 2 million) to Rand 40 million (US$ 2.6 million), while England's withdrawal halfway through a limited-overs tour meant a US$ 1.5 million hit on TV rights.
There were also concerns around India's ongoing visit due to the rise of the Omicron variant - the T20I leg has been rescheduled for a later date - with Smith having previously suggested that his personal relationship with Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president, helped ensure the tour went ahead.
"Cricket is a challenging landscape at the moment," Smith said. "If I just think about our national team now: 52 days in the bubble against India, 10 days coming up in New Zealand for quarantines then the Test match there, home for Bangladesh, two months in IPL, full England tour, India again, [T20] World Cup.
"So how you manage players, management in terms of the stresses that they are facing in these biosecure environments, the amount of cricket we got to play to catch up [with] losses and various other things, so it's a planning nightmare. And hopefully we will get that concoction right and we will see success."

Pakistan to tour south africa in december-january.
KARACHI: Pakistan will visit South Africa for a two Tests, three One-day Internationals and as many T20Is in December-January, the countries’ cricket boards confirmed on Friday.
Durban, Centurion, and Johannesburg will host the T20Is from December 10-14 while the ODIs will be played from December 17-22 in Paarl, Cape Town, and Johannesburg.
The two Test matches, part of the ongoing cycle of the ICC World Test Championship cycle, will be held at Centurion (December 26-30) and Cape Town (January 3-7).
Pakistan’s tour to South Africa is part of the Future Tours Programme 2023-2027. Dawn understands the discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket south Africa started well before the FTP was finalised, while discussions for the Dec-Jan tour commenced earlier this year. After all formalities were completed, the schedule was announced on Friday.
The tour will follow Pakistan’s visit to Australia, in which the national side will play three ODIs and as many T20Is from November 14-18.
After completing the South Africa tour on January 8, the national side will take on New Zealand and South Africa in a three-nation ODI tournament on home turf, which will be followed by the eight-team ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
Prior to the tours of Australia and South Africa, Pakistan will host Bangladesh and England for two and three Tests, respectively. This means they will play seven Tests, minimum of 10 ODIs, and six T20Is in the six-month period from August 2024 to January 2025.
It is unlikely that Pakistan will get to play more ODIs to potentially boost their preparation for the Champions Trophy, given that there is no window from now till the tournament.
All major teams have international cricket lined up as per their respective Future Tour Programs during the period.
South Africa play Tests against Sri Lanka in Durban and Gqeberha before Pakistan arrive.
Unlike earlier this year there will be no clash between any of the Test series and Cricket South Africa’s flagship SA20 competition, which is vital to its financial future.
The 2024 edition overlapped with a two-Test series in New Zealand, which meant South Africa controversially sent a much weakened squad for the matches and were well beaten in both.
The England women’s side will have an all-formats tour that includes three T20 matches (Nov. 24-30), three ODIs (Dec. 4-11) and a single Test in Bloemfontein (Dec. 15-18).
