AeroPress Go Decorative Lid

Travel Edition

The AeroPress Go travel coffee maker is engineered to fuel an active lifestyle. It gives coffee lovers everything they need to conveniently brew superb coffee anywhere. Like the AeroPress Original, the AeroPress Go provides the same great taste and brews American, espresso-style, and cold brew style coffee that can be enjoyed as is or used in a wide range of energizing and refreshing drinks. Designed in Silicon Valley, Made in USA.

Delicious coffee anywhere: Rapidly brews smooth, pure-tasting coffee without the acidity or grit. Optimized for traveling, camping, and boating. Free yourself from hotel coffee!

Compact design, with mug included: Includes microwaveable mug and lid that doubles as a traveling case so you can brew coffee anywhere. Quick to clean and pack up.

Brew American or espresso-style coffee: Brews one to three delicious cups with one press. AeroPress Go can also make cold brew coffee as well as espresso-style coffee for lattes, cappuccinos, and more.

AeroPress Go Chamber & Plunger: For brewing the most delicious coffee ever!

Mug with Lid: Pack up your AeroPress Go into a sturdy, portable mug that you can take anywhere.

Paper Micro-Filters: Includes 100 replacement AeroPress micro-filters. Micro-filters remove grit from your coffee, unlike other press-type coffee makers.

Travel Filter Holder: The filter holder makes it easy to take micro-filters with you anywhere you go.

Stirrer: Designed to be the perfect length for AeroPress Go.

Scoop: Measures just the right amount of coffee for delicious, easy AeroPress Go recipes.

Care: To maximize seal life, always eject the used coffee right after brewing and store your AeroPress coffee maker with the seal pushed all the way through the chamber. This keeps the seal free of compression for longer seal life. There is no adhesive on the seal, so you can easily remove it and then replace it on the AeroPress plunger. You can purchase replacement seals from here .

Cleaning: For day to day use, a simple rinse is sufficient because the plunger wipes the chamber clean as you brew. However, you can wash AeroPress coffee makers in the dishwasher (top rack only). We recommend occasionally removing the seal from the end of the plunger for a good washing inside and out with warm water and dish soap. If your chamber ever gets sticky, wash it with vinegar.

Description

The Aerobie Aeropress brews coffee in about 30 seconds. A French press requires about 5 minutes of steep time, and a gravity powered drip maker takes several minutes to complete brewing. The short extraction time ensures a spectacular cup of coffee. Aeropress brews at the ideal temperature using finely ground coffee thereby ensuring only the tastiest coffee goes into your cup. The Aeropress is "grit-free" unlike French presses, there is no sludge in the bottom of your cup.

The AeroPress Go is optimized for traveling, camping, or just going to work by making it convenient and easy to take your AeroPress with you. Its smart design ensures that you will never be without delicious AeroPress brewed coffee wherever you go.

Benefits of AeroPress

Creates a rich and smooth taste, perfectly compact.

Compact, lightweight, and durable: Ingeniously engineered to ensure that everything fits inside the mug.

Brews cleanly and quickly

Micro filtered for grit free coffee - unlike other press-type coffee makers. One minute from start to enjoy. The actual press time takes only 20 seconds, and Cold Brew about 2 minutes.

Use for Hot or Cold Brewing

Use for both hot and cold coffee brewing, with near equal quickness! Use cold/room temperature water instead of boiling water, and increase brewing time to 1 minute.

BPA and Phthalate Free

All of the AeroPress parts except the silicone seal and the paper filters are currently and have been made of polypropylene since July of 2014. All materials used in the AeroPress are free of BPA and phthalates, are made in the USA, and are FDA and EU approved for use in contact with food.

Please see the illustration below for the evolution of materials used in the manufacture of the AeroPress since its beginning in November of 2005.

Review: AeroPress Go

I came into one of my favorite new ways to make coffee by accident. My friend Trevor got two AeroPress coffee makers for his birthday last summer and sent me home with one, an act of generosity I appreciate every morning when I turn on the kettle.

Many people might confuse the AeroPress for Austin Powers' favorite Swedish sex device 1 . It's a syringe-like setup where you put grounds into one cylinder and use the other as a plunger, pressing hot water through the grounds and a filter, down into your mug. When you're done, you eject the puck of grounds into the compost bin. The coffee it creates is somewhere between espresso and a really strong cuppa joe. You can drink it as is, or add hot water to make an Americano. Some folks even use the shot it pours as the base of a latte or other espresso drinks.

A bit of an outlier in coffee maker-dom, the AeroPress is a bit like a pour-over setup or a tiny French press, and every time I use it, I marvel at its cleverness. Now a travel version has improved on the original, so much so that I think it may replace it and become the gift of the year for coffee lovers in the process.

The AeroPress Go is a minimally miniaturized version of the original. (Mr. Powers will still love it.) It's an inch shorter and a whisker narrower, meaning it brews slightly less coffee—eight ounces instead of 10. The big difference here is that all of the parts now tuck neatly into a gray plastic mug with a rubbery, red silicone lid. Inside there's a tiny spoon, a foldable stirrer to swish the grounds around, and a squat makeup-compact style case that holds the filters. Sealed up, the mug and lid look like a cousin of the mushrooms from Mario Bros .

Eager to give the Go a go, I stocked up on coffee and got brewing. I quickly found that if you already own an AeroPress—the company now refers to the first model as the "original"—there's almost no learning curve. You'll make excellent coffee right off the bat.

I got my hands on a Go review unit before its official street date and brought it over to show my friends at Seattle's Empire Espresso . Along with their excellent espresso drinks, Empire specializes in AeroPress coffee, and every barista behind the counter craned their necks for a look when I pulled it out of my bag. Shop owner Ian Peters explained that they had dabbled in both the pour-over and Chemex (big pour-over) methods, but being a busy coffee shop, they struggled with the time constraints these labor-intensive methods require. They can't afford to rely on techniques that monopolize a staff member for a good five minutes while the line backs out the door.

"Pour-over used to be a real problem," Peters said. He found the quality of the AeroPress coffee much like those methods, and it took half the time. "The profile was so similar to a pour-over that I couldn't tell the difference."

Peters picked up the Go and set up a head-to-head taste test between it and one of his original AeroPresses. Both coffees were excellent, with minimal differences between them. I did detect a bit more acidity a bit earlier in the sip from the Go cup and asked Peters about it.

"I'd tweak the ratio a bit, but it wouldn't be hard," he said, referring to the amount of grounds and hot water, before cocking his head and smiling, as if marveling at the new gadget. "My wife makes an AeroPress coffee every morning. She's going to want one of these."

There are two ways you can brew with an AeroPress. In the "classic" method, you weigh out your beans, grind them, pour them into the larger of the two cylinders (the brewing chamber), add hot water, stir, and plunge. The coffee starts dripping into your mug as soon as the water hits the filter, a slight imperfection in the design that begat the "inverted" method. For that technique, you push the plunger about a centimeter into the brewing chamber, turn the whole thing upside down, pour the grounds and water right onto the plunger, and stir. After that, you put on the filter cap, flip, and plunge. Coffee nerds love inverting because there's no drip-through and the steeping time is more easily controlled.

Normal or flipped, it's a setup that allows you to find a favorite brewing method and lock it in forever. I'm partial to a number-six grind on my Baratza Encore grinder , 22 grams of beans, and enough water to fill to the #3 marker on the side of the Go (about 75 grams), then plunging and adding hot water and milk to my mug. You can tinker to your heart's content.

One thing I noticed in the AeroPress materials is how they highlight a water temperature preference of 175 degrees Fahrenheit (80 degrees Celsius), which is notably cooler than the just-boiled water from my kettle. So, I bought a kettle with six presets and paid particular attention to the effects of water temperature. Trying this out is part of coffee testing's scientific method, but the insistence on 175 degrees also read like marketing hokum.

I immediately knew I was wrong in my first head-to head. With all other variables locked down, I made a cup with 175-degree water and another with water right off a 212-degree boil. Both made good coffee, but after smelling the 175-degree cup, I noticed it lacked the smoky/burnt/caramelized aromas that stuck out clearly in the 212-degree cup. Whether you enjoy those smells probably depends on how much you like burnt marshmallows.

The bigger difference was in the sipping. Again, both cups were good, but the 175-degree cup reminded me of high-end coffee-shop coffee, while the 212-degree cup had rougher edges and sharper flavors. I had been brewing with a medium-dark roast, so next I experimented with an oily dark roast. I found similar but less-pronounced results. Still, it was good enough to convince me to brew at a lower temperature in the future.

If you do tinker—give it a try!—just remember to tweak only one variable at a time and use coffee that you know you like. As long as you're in the ballpark, it's hard to go wrong, but Jessica Easto's Craft Coffee is excellent if you're looking for a primer on brewing methods.

Regardless of method, the Go is superior to its already excellent predecessor. First, it's made to travel. People like to talk about traveling with the original, and there's an accessory bag you can get to do that, but the Go's cup and lid make it much more compact, and less clunky too. Fly into a new town for a week, grab a bag of ground beans when you land, and your home kit is now your road kit.

Second, between the mug and the lid, you've got places to set things down as you work. The best thing I'd figured out with my original was to put a loaf pan next to my kettle, creating a little accessory bin so I didn't have to set a wet, grounds-covered stirrer or slightly drippy brewer on the counter. It's not perfect, but it's better with the Go. Third, packed into its cup with the lid on, it looks much nicer on a kitchen shelf. Fourth, they both cost around $30.

My nitpicks with the Go are few. The stirring paddle it comes with cleverly folds down to fit inside the plunger, but it's not as effective as the one that comes with the original. The silicone lid that holds everything in place inside the mug leaves the closed assembly a bit wobbly, and it'd be nice if it snapped firmly into place. I'd love to see some sort of optional "dock" to keep you from setting things down on the counter before (and especially after) you brew. It's also all plastic, and it'd be lovely to see a fancy version made of more Earth-friendly materials. Finally, I'd be takers on a big version that could make several cups at once.

I did wonder out loud to the AeroPress marketing coordinator if we might see some sort of retrofitting capability for the original so it had a cup and lid it could pack into—they could call it the Go Big!—but she could only be coaxed into saying that there are "more products in the pipeline."

Fingers crossed. Go big!

Whether you are looking for something to perk up your morning commute or want to sip a hot cup of joe on a mountain top in the middle of nowhere, a portable coffee maker is an absolute game-changer.

From single cup heaters to coffee makers you can share with friends, a portable coffee maker is a travel must-have for those who never want to miss a coffee fix, wherever they are headed.

Convenient Coffee Maker

Sure, you could nip into the nearest Starbucks (or other coffee shops available) and grab a paper cup on the go. But being able to brew your favorite hot beverage is far more satisfying and much more cost-effective.

Portable coffee makers are, among other things:

An automatic coffee maker can brew up a cup at the touch of a button. Your morning cup can be just as tasty as it is at home, even on the road.

Fancy lattes and other brews can be expensive. Nice for the occasional treat, but buying 1 every day can soon add up. Making your own will save you money from the get-go.

Compact, discreet, and easy to take with you, a portable coffee maker can fit in your carry-on bag and be produced for a brew whenever you need it.

Blendable To Suit Your Tastes

Once you get used to using your coffee maker, you will soon be brewing like a barista as you mix blends and flavors to create your perfect cup.

Because not all coffee makers are the same, they offer varying ways to brew your coffee on the go.

The most common types of coffee makers include:

Pour-over Coffee Makers

Possibly the best option for longer journeys, pour-over coffee makers are compact and light as a feather. Carry just a few grams of your favorite blend and voilà — a perfect coffee on the go. The only downside to these types of coffee makers is that you may have to wait a few minutes for your brew.

French Press

French press coffee makers work by immersing all of the coffee in hot water to capture more of its natural flavor, resulting in a rich, strong cup of coffee. While the coffee may be better, the cleaning processes take longer, and some French press coffee makers are more portable than others.

Espresso Makers

If you like your coffee dark, a portable espresso maker will give you big flavors on the go. As the machine applies pressure to the beans, the maximum flavor and oils spill out, giving the same result as bigger coffee machines, but in a compact and completely portable format. These models are the most expensive but will be a big hit with true coffee connoisseurs.

Hot Tip: Check out our favorite travel mugs to go with your travel coffee maker.

When choosing your perfect portable coffee maker, consider the following:

Portability

Portable Coffee Maker

One of the most important features of a portable coffee maker is that it needs to be “portable” — the clue is in the title. Some types of coffee makers are far larger and bulkier than others, so look for one that suits your needs.

Whichever type of coffee maker you favor, it needs to be easy to carry and not take up too much space. Otherwise, you may as well leave it back at home.

Hot Tip: Look for lightweight materials like silicone, and consider coffee makers that are complete and without the need for lots of other fancy accessories.

Coffee Maker Durability

Traveling can take its toll on your possessions, and you need to make sure that you buy appliances and devices that will go the distance. Stay clear of delicate glass coffee makers and opt instead for reinforced materials such as plastic, silicone, or even aluminum for guaranteed durability.

Brewing Time

A portable coffee maker is almost pointless if you have to wait half of your journey time for it to brew. Choose appliances that take between 30 seconds to 5 minutes to brew, and you can enjoy speedy coffee on the go.

Ease of Cleaning

Easy to clean coffee maker

Dirty coffee is not good coffee. Consider where you are headed and how easy the coffee maker will be to clean when you get there. If you are hotel-based or have an apartment, you can enjoy the luxuries of a hot tap and maybe even a dishwasher, but if you are camping in the middle of nowhere, you should choose a coffee maker that is easy to clean, with minimal components.

Coffee Maker Volume

Coffee for 1? 2? Or maybe more than a few? The size of your coffee maker could determine how grumpy your fellow travelers will be in the morning. You can be the chief coffee maker for as many as you want, but remember that the larger the capacity of the appliance, the bigger and bulkier it is likely to be.

Nearly every appliance or device you take with you will eventually need charging or require some form of power to make it work. Your portable coffee maker will be no different, but you need to be sure how you need to power it before you go.

Those that don’t run on elbow grease alone will run on electricity or batteries. To ensure your charging needs match your destination, read the instructions and reviews before you buy.

There are many different types of portable coffee makers out there to choose from, all of which will brew you a great cup of coffee. Here are some of our favorites.

Nick Thiemann – June 17, 2021

I purchased an OVRLNDR Press last August and have used it almost every day for the last 9 months. It’s very well built, super easy to clean, and adventures very well. I’ve loved it so much I bought a couple for my brother and his wife as christmas gifts last year. The quality is top notch, although it sadly did not stand up to the wrath of my Great Dane when he got ahold of the cylinder. Ordering my replacement, the company has been great to work with.

I bought it at the 2021 BMW Rally in Great Falls. Very personable sales lady. Works as advertised. I highly recommend it. A little pricey but worth it. It’ll likely last forever.

RgSteele – July 9, 2021

Perfect size for traveling, keeps our coffee hot and is easy to clean. One issue worth noting. When depressed all the way, the plunger forms a seal with the bottom that slows the pouring to a very small trickle. We have to move ours back up a little to increase the flow but that’s a minor adjustment for us. Still rate it 5 stars for the quality of the materials, construction and function.

James Simmons – August 1, 2021

While this one doesn’t leak (yet) as I’ve read on Amazon reviews and seems to keep it hot, the press only goes down to where the bottom unscrews and leaves about a cup of liquid at the bottom with the grounds. Very wasteful when you’re only making a cup since you would have to make 1 cup plus what you want to drink. Or you would have to run it through a coffee filter which kinda is even more wasteful.

' src=

Sarah – September 28, 2021

Hi James, thanks for your comment. The Amazon reviews were from products that unfortunately were missing their gaskets, which caused leaking. We got that fixed right away, and as long as yours has the gasket sealed properly it won’t leak.

The leftover liquid was an intentional design of the OVRLNDR in order to make cleaning easy. There is supposed to be a couple ounces in the removable base of the press, so you don’t need extra water to clean the press. Simply swirl the slurry and quickly dump it and then cleaning will be finished.

Really well built press. Been wanting a French press for a while but was looking for one that could be used for travel. This checked all the boxes and so far, extremely satisfied with my purchase!!

Jim – September 18, 2021

I bought one of these so I could make good coffee while backcountry camping. I made coffee with it in my kitchen as a test. I confirmed what everyone else said that it is easy to clean and rugged enough for backcountry. Exactly what I wanted!

SID WEGENER – September 29, 2021

Works exactly as expected. Easy to use and clean in the van, plus it’s rugged, so I don’t have to worry about it breaking when I’m driving. Keeps my coffee hot longer than it would ever take me to drink it. I can pour from it, into mugs to share, or drink right from the press. Perfect design! Order yours today. Don’t wait!

Great travel press. Used it on a camping trip and had no problems with it leaking. Keeps coffee hot for hours and you can leave the coffee in the press with out it brewing and getting stronger or bitter unlike the traditional French press. Would definitely purchase this again and would give as gifts for Christmas.

George B – October 26, 2021

I bought this to replace my standard French press, because the carafe recently broke. I really like this press, I especially like the clean from the bottom ease. The insulated part keeps the coffee nice and hot for about 30+ minutes. The only downside is the base is too big to fit in my Tundra’s cup holder…

Jason – November 7, 2021

Got one for my girl after seeing it on Dome Life. Used it already and super impressed! Can’t wait to take it hiking/camping with us.

Dennis Lee – February 7, 2022

Really like the removable bottom, makes cleanup a breeze.

I make 24oz at a time, so I haven’t been able to evaluate the Bru Stop feature.

Took me a couple times to understand how to compensate for the unused liquid retained in the bottom below the press. I was just over-thinking it.

I like 42g of coarse ground coffee with 24oz of water around 195 to 200 degrees F. Brew for 4 minutes. I start the 4-minute timer once the 24oz of hot water has been poured on top of the grounds. After I start the timer, I gently stir then cover.

I won this French press at a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation banquet in Montana. Can’t wait to take it hunting!

11 Best Travel Coffee Makers (Portable Espresso, French Press & Cold Brew)

There’s nothing worse to waking up in an Airbnb to find they don’t have a decent coffee maker that they described in their listing. First off, let me just admit I’m a total caffeine addict, I really need a good cup of joe to get me started. I’m not particularly fussy about the method used to make the coffee, although I love cappuccino in Rome or cafe con leche when I’m in Spain as long as its good quality coffee I’m happy. I’m just as satisftied by a cup good “cowboy” style boiled coffee when I am backpacking.

According to Forbes , drinking coffee may lower your risk of early death so you certainly don’t want to skimp on your coffee intake while on holiday or travelling for work! Not all coffee makers are made equal, so let’s first look at a few criteria to find the best ones for travel.

Best Travel Coffee Makers

Aeropress coffee and espresso maker.

Bialetti Moka Express Espresso Maker

A Moka Espresso Maker is a good option if you quickly want to make more than one cup of coffee. It can be a bit bulky in your suitcase and the brewing method is more laborious than for instance a French Press. But the delicious coffee is worth the hassle. Add a touch of home to your travel experience with the stove operated Moka espresso maker.

Presto MyJo Single Cup Coffee Maker

travel coffee press canada

You don’t have to compromise on the quality of your coffee while travelling. This coffee maker is compatible with K-cups or another brand of your choice. Before starting, you can choose the cup size that you want (6, 8, or 10-ounce options) Insert the K-cup or coffee grounds, fill the reservoir with water, attach it, and start brewing your delicious cup of morning coffee.

Kuissential Collapsible Silicone Coffee Dripper

The silicone is a great material that doesn’t affect the taste of the coffee. And it’s more durable than a plastic or porcelain dripper. Kuissential Coffee Dripper is also very easy to clean and pack away. It is great value for money, and perfect for travelling. If a pour over coffee is your brewing method of choice, this travel coffee maker is your best option.

Primula Single Serve Coffee Brew Buddy

travel coffee press canada

This single server will fit almost any size mug or cup. And it’s small enough to easily fit into your handbag or backpack. It is the ideal travelling accessory for a solo traveller who enjoys a regular coffee fix.

All-In-One Coffee Maker & Manual Grinder

travel coffee press canada

If you are a coffee connoisseur that insists on only the freshest coffee possible, this is the coffee maker for you. A compact hand grinder is hidden inside. Simply screw off the top, select your grinding setting, grind a single serving of beans, and add water to the travel mug for a premium coffee with the snap of your fingers.

How to Select the Best Travel Coffee Maker

travel coffee press canada

Firstly, you want a coffee maker that will save you time while travelling. Try to find a coffee maker that brews in maximum five minutes. Also, pick a coffee maker that is easy to clean.

Next, decide what size coffee maker you want to travel with. Some travel coffee makers are so compact, they can fit in your handbag or backpack which often make great travel gifts .

Another important question to ask yourself is whether you want a powered or powerless coffee maker. Rather select a battery-operated or manual coffee maker if you are unsure of what kind of access you will have to a power source while travelling.

Lastly, you need to choose the type of coffee maker you prefer, for instance, espresso or pour-over. A French Press is one of the most convenient brewing methods for travel.

Every generation deserves a fair, healthy future – from kids, to parents, to grandparents. It’s why we’re supporting families, one of the many things that we are doing in Budget 2024 to build an economy that helps every generation get ahead.

Children deserve to have the best start in life. But today, nearly one in four children in Canada do not get enough food. That impacts their health and their opportunities to learn and grow. Higher grocery prices are making it hard for parents to afford to put enough good, healthy food on the table. Study after study has shown that when kids eat well, they do better in school. And when kids do well, that sets them up for success. Everyone deserves a fair shot at success, and we believe that fairness means we support each other at every stage of life – and that starts from childhood.

That’s why we’ve made generational investments like the Canada Child Benefit, which provides families with up to nearly $8,000 per child, per year, to provide the essentials their kids need. And since 2015, 650,000 children have been lifted out of poverty, meaning Canada’s child poverty rate has fallen by more than half.

And when it comes to helping kids, especially vulnerable kids, we’re going to keep going.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced a new National School Food Program . With an investment of $1 billion over five years, the Program, included in Budget 2024, will launch with a target of providing meals to 400,000 more kids every year, beyond those served by existing school food programs. For moms and dads, it will mean the peace of mind that your kids are taken care of and do not go hungry. For kids, it will mean healthy meals – helping them learn, grow, and reach their full potential. This is a generational investment in the future of our kids, and we’re going to work with provinces and territories and Indigenous partners to ensure every child has the food they need.

The Program will be a safety net for the kids who need this support the most. The lack of access to food disproportionately impacts children from lower-income families and from racialized and Indigenous communities. With this program, we’re getting healthy food on the plates of growing kids.

This includes investments for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities as well as Self-Governing and Modern Treaty partners, many of whom have some of the highest rates of food insecurity in Canada. Investments will also support capacity building and engagement with Indigenous partners to co-develop culturally appropriate solutions. These partnerships will aim to tackle food insecurity by advancing Indigenous-led solutions and will further our work on reconciliation.

The new National School Food Program will also help provinces, territories, and Indigenous partners expand their existing school food programs to make sure more children across the country can enjoy the healthy meals they need. The Program is good for parents and kids, and it’s good for the economy as well. It will help take pressure off of families and invest directly in the future of our kids, while improving children’s health, education, and well-being.

Last week, we announced measures to protect renters and create more affordable child care spaces. This is on top of our actions to improve health care and dental care, strengthen pensions, and increase access to medications – making sure that, no matter your background or income, you have what you need to be healthy. We all depend on Canada’s future success. And Canada’s success depends on the youngest generations being healthy, doing well, and being set up to succeed.

“The National School Food Program is a game changer. The Program will take pressure off of families, invest directly in the future of our kids, and make sure they’re able to reach their full potential – feeling healthy and happy. This is about fairness and doing what’s right for our kids to get the best start in life.” The Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
“Since 2015, we’ve reduced child poverty from 16.3 per cent to just 6.4 per cent in 2021 – lifting 650,000 kids out of poverty. Today, the rising price of groceries is making it tough for families, especially Millennial parents, to afford the food their kids need. To make sure every kid gets their fair chance at a great start in life, we’re launching a $1 billion National School Food Program to help another 400,000 kids get the food they need to thrive.” The Hon. Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance
“We’re creating a National School Food Program because kids learn better on a full stomach. This Program will have an incredible impact, supporting parents with the higher cost of groceries, and giving children every opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.” The Hon. Jenna Sudds, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development

Quick Facts

  • The Government of Canada’s Budget 2024 will be tabled in the House of Commons by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
  • Restore generational fairness for renters, particularly Millennials and Gen Z, by taking new action to protect renters’ rights and unlock pathways for them to become homeowners.
  • Save money for more families and help more moms return to their careers by building more affordable child care spaces and providing training to early childhood educators across Canada.
  • Nearly one in four children do not get enough food, and that has a real impact on their opportunities to learn and grow. According to studies, students who consistently consumed a nutritious breakfast attained higher grades in reading, math, and science compared to their peers who seldom or never did.
  • reducing hunger, food insecurity, and health inequities;
  • supporting students’ attendance, academic outcomes, and achievement;
  • supporting families by reducing food costs and the time required to prepare school lunches; and,
  • supporting local farmers, local economies, as well as sustainable food systems and practices.
  • Giving families more money through the Canada Child Benefit to help with the costs of raising children and make a real difference in the lives of kids in Canada. The Canada Child Benefit, which is providing up to $7,437 per child in 2023-24, is indexed annually to keep up with the cost of living and has helped lift more than half a million children out of poverty since its launch in 2016.
  • Delivering an early learning and child care system across all provinces and territories, which has already cut fees for regulated child care to an average of $10-a-day or less in over half of all provinces and territories, and by 50 per cent or more in all others.
  • Improving access to dental health care for children under the age of 12 through the Canada Dental Benefit , and soon for children under 18 with the Canadian Dental Care Plan , because no one should have to choose between taking care of their kids’ teeth and putting food on the table.

April 12, 2024

TORONTO, ON – The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (“GTAA”) today initiated discussions with design and construction companies on Pearson LIFT - Long term Investment in Facilities and Terminals (LIFT) , on the procurement, planning and vision of the program. LIFT is a capital plan spanning more than a decade, investing billions of dollars into Toronto Pearson’s facility through several construction programs aimed at preparing Canada’s largest airport for the challenges and opportunities of the coming years and beyond. Toronto Pearson executives will launch today the first phase of a procurement process at an industry forum for 700 participants from design, construction, and technology industry companies. Toronto Pearson has been meeting passenger needs by deploying extraordinary resources to many of its aged assets and facilities, which is not a sustainable solution with passenger traffic expected to grow to approximately 65 million annually by the early 2030s – a figure that takes the airport beyond its 45 million passengers in 2023. Toronto Pearson Airport is making smart investments to accommodate increasing passenger demand to meet the expectations and experiences they expect, with a focus on affordability, smart design, and sustainability.  "Through LIFT, we will deliver a world-class passenger experience, integrate smart architecture, unlock the digital potential in air travel, and advance towards a net-zero future,” said Deborah Flint, President and Chief Executive Officer, GTAA. “These plans are anchored to our ambition to build an airport that will strengthen international competitiveness, leverage innovation, and advance sustainability, all which drive economic returns for Canada,” she added. The first program of LIFT will focus on modernizing airport assets, including high speed taxi lanes to improve airfield performance, modernized airfield electric lighting and control system, interim terminal facilities, and investments in power generation to advance towards net-zero targets.   "LIFT is an investment in Canada's future economic prosperity and is poised to generate billions of dollars in economic benefits. These necessary investments will strengthen the supply chain, open the door to new opportunities for Canadian businesses, and create good jobs right here in the GTA. Together, they will enable sustainable growth and competitiveness on a global scale," said Doug Allingham, Chairman of the Board, GTAA. These enhancements will pave the way for Toronto Pearson to become one of the greenest, technologically advanced, and passenger-friendly airports in North America and globally.

Canada advises against all travel to Israel, West Bank due to heightened risk

Canadians are being told to avoid all travel to Israel and the West Bank because of the “unpredictable security situation” in the region.

Global Affairs Canada says there is a heightened risk of attacks on Israeli territory, while tensions and violence are high in the West Bank.

Palestinian health officials say a Palestinian man was killed and 25 others were hurt today after dozens of angry Israeli settlers stormed into a village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, shooting and setting houses and cars on fire.

Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly says the regional security situation remains highly volatile and could escalate without notice.

She says Canadians should consider leaving the area by commercial means.

The updated travel guidance comes less than two weeks after seven aid workers with the World Central Kitchen, including a dual Canadian-American citizen, were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit their convoy while they were delivering food in the Gaza Strip.

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

travel coffee press canada

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

travel coffee press canada

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

travel coffee press canada

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

travel coffee press canada

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

travel coffee press canada

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

Yoto Mini Speaker For Kids Recalled Due To Fire Risk

A popular bluetooth speaker for toddlers and young children was recalled today, April 11, due its potential to overheat and possibly catch on fire. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and brand issued the recall of the Yoto Mini , saying that the lithium-ion battery “can overheat and catch fire, posing burn and fire hazards to consumers.”

More than 250,000 of the Yoto Mini devices were sold in the U.S., and another nearly 19,000 in Canada.

The Yoto Mini speaker for kids was recalled due to the potential that it could overheat and catch on ... [+] fire.

The Yoto Mini recalled units were sold nationwide from November 2021 through April 2024 at major retailers, such as Amazon , Maisonette and Target .

The Yoto Mini is the smaller version of the Yoto series of kiddie speakers, all of which are lightweight and portable. This one is particularly light, making it easy to carry in the palm of a child’s hand. The speakers use Yoto Card inserts to play children’s stories, podcasts, nursery rhymes and more—and they can also operate via a parental app.

Yoto players are designed to be used by children ages 3 and up, or caregivers can operate the device to play stories and sounds for younger children. The ability to play white noise and other soothing features, such as bedtime stories, means the device is positioned as useful at nighttime in a child’s room when adult caregivers may not be present.

CPSC advised consumers to “immediately stop using the recalled speakers,” and to “take them away from children.” Consumers should contact Yoto to receive a free replacement smart charging cable that is designed to charge the battery in a safer manner and prevent overcharging and thus overheating. The brand said in a statement that it is no longer working with the previous Yoto Mini battery supplier.

Align Your Spine With The Best Pillows For Neck Pain, According To Experts

The best percale sheets for a refreshing, crisp and cool sleep.

While no injuries were reported to the CPSC, the Yoto Mini recall advisory said that Yoto received seven consumer reports of the speaker overheating or melting.

The brand said that no other Yoto products were impacted.
