Travel (Skyrim)

  • Edit source

Carriage

Sigaar , outside of Riften .

Several methods of travel are available to the Dragonborn in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim . These methods allow for the navigation of Skyrim .

  • 2 Fast Travel

By foot [ ]

The simplest mode of transportation includes walking, which is performed in real time. Certain controls can be used to toggle between walking, running, and sprinting . Respectively, these three modes of foot travel span from slowest to fastest.

Fast Travel [ ]

The Dragonborn, optionally, can use the Fast Travel option to move between discovered locations quickly. Unmarked locations and undiscovered locations cannot be fast traveled to.

Carriage [ ]

A third option includes the ability to pay a carriage driver to transport the Dragonborn to inaccessible or burdensome places to travel. For example, a carriage outside of a major city may transport the Dragonborn from that city, to a city they have never been before. In Hearthfire , the Dragonborn can have their steward hire a carriage driver for the Dragonborn's homestead . These carriage drivers do not charge for transport and can take the Dragonborn to numerous places that the city carriage drivers will not.

In Dawnguard , the option to pay a ferryman for transportation to the coastal cities of Solitude , Dawnstar and Windhelm was introduced. The price is 50 Septims for each trip and 500 Septims for transportation to an island near the High Rock border . In Dragonborn , a ferry is used for travel between the port of Windhelm on the mainland and Raven Rock on the isle of Solstheim .

Horses can be purchased, or in some instances stolen , from stables and rode around as a form of transportation. This method of transportation is quicker than walking, but may make navigating mountainous areas more difficult.

Skyrim:The Chill

skyrim fast travel winterhold

The Chill is the jail for Winterhold , located on an island north-northeast of the College of Winterhold and northeast of Septimus Signus's Outpost , across the sea. If you are arrested by a Winterhold guard and sent to jail, you will be imprisoned here.

The location of The Chill is not marked on the map ; consequently, it cannot be selected as a destination for fast travel. There is only one zone, The Chill .

Walkthrough [ edit ]

Exterior [ edit ].

The Chill is located on a mineral-rich island, with the ore veins listed below. The island is inhabited by several leveled animals in addition to a few horkers , which can include snow bears , snowy sabre cats , and ice wolves . One of the animals is normally found near the corundum ore vein to the northwest, and another is normally found near the iron ore veins to the northeast. The leveled animals and horkers may end up fighting each other, resulting in the victors being found injured near the corpses of the defeated.

  • Two gold ore veins among the rocks above The Chill (see bugs ).
  • One silver ore vein to the southeast.
  • Four iron ore veins : three to the northeast, and one on the far southern tip.
  • One corundum ore vein to the northwest.

The Chill [ edit ]

skyrim fast travel winterhold

The interior of the cave is guarded by a frost atronach . There are three cages with adept-level locks; each contains a bedroll. A further three small empty cages hang from the ceiling. There are lootable skeletal remains in two of the locked cages. The third cage is the one you are sent to, and has a lit lantern on the floor. There are also ten food barrels in the cave.

If you are sent here, you will keep all of your equipment, including stolen items, making escaping the jail the easiest in Skyrim. Upon entering The Chill, regardless of whether you were jailed or entered of your own free will, the frost atronach inside and three others outside will all spawn. Upon exiting, the three aggressive frost atronachs outside will attack you on sight.

Notes [ edit ]

  • A map marker for The Chill was added by the Unofficial Skyrim Patch , version 1.3.1.
  • When arrested in Winterhold, if you choose to go to jail, the guards will respond with "Ha, enjoy the Chill."
  • If you escape from The Chill, you do not incur the 100 gold bounty that you would normally receive from escaping jails in other holds.
  • All the containers in The Chill (which are only barrels) are respawning , and therefore unsafe to store items in.

Bugs [ edit ]

  • Entering and exiting The Chill again may resolve this.
  • When entering The Chill from the outside, the cage you would be put in if you were arrested in Winterhold may not spawn, leaving the door floating in space. ?

skyrim fast travel winterhold

I've seen dozens of other users have this issue, I've spent the last three days reading through forum after forum, but none of them have found a solution. Simply put: I can't travel to Winterhold or the College. As soon as I attempt to fast travel, use the coc console commands, or walk into the city limits, the game immediately crashes to the desktop. The odd thing is that I have gone to Winterhold plenty of times (I've even completed the College questline). It's only just now that this CTD has presented itself. I HAVE ALREADY TRIED: Uninstalling and Reinstalling Skyrim Verifying my files through Steam Cleaning save files/deleting orphan files Disabling all mods/opening a Vanilla file None of these solutions have worked. Before you blame it on a mod, IT'S NOT THE MODS. The disabling mods solution didn't work, plus about half of the people struggling with this issue that I've ready about in other forums are on vanilla game files with no mods. This is a bug in the Skyrim game file. I'm dying here. I've got nearly 200 hours on this save file. Literally everything else works without a hitch, I just can't travel to Winterhold.

The most immersed I've ever been in a game was definitely in a heavily modded Skyrim with Frostfall, Realistic Needs(Eat, Drink, Sleep), fast travel disabled, Alternate Start (So I could roleplay an ordinary person, at least for a while), death is permanent and A Better Map (Paper version).

  9. Fast Travel (Skyrim)

For this mechanic in other games, see Fast Travel. Fast Travel is a method of travel in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is a way of quickly "teleporting" to any previously discovered location.
