11/2-22: Announcement! To all NNF fans out there. We got some news for you, good and bad at the same time. After a mutual agreement we came to the conclusion that it is the best decision for both parts to split ways with our amazing singer Andreas. With a family to take care of, a move from Stockholm and his own band to focus on he simply doesn’t have the necessary time to put into NNF, even if he wants to. He is a brother and a good friend so it obviously feels sad, but unfortunately its the only way for us to be able to grow the way we want to and finally hit the road. We want nothing more then to play live shows for you guys and take it to the next level. Who knows, Andreas might join in in some way or another further down the road but for now the plan is to record an album with different features on lead vocals as we are searching for a new member that can give 100%. Much love // NNF

28/1-22: our new ep empty is out you can find it on every major platform..

I really enjoyed this show. Not only did Noname sound great (while sick nonetheless), but her band was incredible. The backup singers added tremendous depth to each song, the drummer and bassist both nailed the classic Noname feel, and the pianist and guitarist played with the perfect complimentary touch. If I'm being real, I was a little disappointed that her set was so short. She was on stage from 9:15-10:05 (50 minutes), which isn't the worst thing in the world, but she didn't even play completely through some of her biggest hits (Ditty Bop, Reality Check, Blaxploitation). Overall, I paid 36 dollars for my tickets including fees, so I can't really complain. Highly recommend the show to any fan of Noname's or just of good music!

Report as inappropriate

Saw Noname two years ago in Amsterdam shortly after she released Telefone. She did not disappoint and I loved seeing her in such an intimate venue. I was hesitant about going to her Room 25 show in a larger venue in my hometown mainly because those shows can get rowdy/people sometimes shove each other. The crowd was the right amount of hyped and Noname delivered, unsurprisingly. I also LOVED that she had a live band and background singers, which added so much depth. She was funny and sassy and would stop between songs to roast the audience, LMAO. It's awesome to see her growth these past two years and I feel like each album she puts out is going to be equally as killer (or if not more) than the last.

Interestingly enough I did not see Noname. I was so excited for months to go and see my favorite rapper perform, but unfortunately she was faced with medical issues and couldn’t not make it... completely understandable. I hoped that the Hollywood Bowl understood that some of us purchased tickets specifically to see noname and would refund. They did not. They have a no refund policy, but there are no exceptions except major cancellations. I find that to be unfair and ultimately, money hungry. This is in no way her fault, but the Hollywood Bowls.

Well, that was disappointing. You could tell from the first ten minutes she wasn't feeling the crowd. And she told us so later during the show. The problem is, if you need to ask people to enjoy your music, maybe you're doing something wrong. theMIND played before her and I think most people came to listen to Noname and didn't know him much. Still they seemed to enjoy his music and his performance a lot more than her show. Plus she had a band but wouldn't let them exist onstage. And the sound was bad. Too much of her voice.

She's young.

This show stole my soul. The vibes that the crowd and both Ravyn Lenae and Noname Gypsy gave off were unreal. Also loved how small and intimate the venue was, made you feel super connected. Both incredibly talented musicians vocally, lyrically and spiritually. They are a must see. Definitely one of the best... no 100% the best concert I've ever been to in terms of actually feeling such a deep connection with an artist's music.

This was my second time seeing Noname and it was magnificent! The atmosphere was both filled with excitement and calmness. Noname makes jokes and laughs brightly while speaking truthfully to her audience. Her raps are great live and she even sings sometimes, which she doesn't do much on the album, although she warns the audience in advance to brace their ears. Overall a great 10/10 concert experience.

Such a good show!! Noname/Fatimah was super warm and friendly and really hyped up the crowd. She is such a gifted rapper and lyricist and her backing band is just as talented as well. Props to the fantastic keyboard and bass player who has a beautiful voice as well. If you debating whether to go to a Noname show or not, drop everything and GO!!! You will have the best time.

I really wanted to love this show but the sound engineer was playing the bass and background vocals way too loud. You could barely hear Noname over everything else and it made it really hard to get into the show. Disappointing cause I've loved both of her albums and was really looking forward to seeing her live.

I saw noname in Syd 2018 and it was so amazing, she had energy and flow and interacted with the audience more than any other artist I've seen live, went with my friend who had no idea who she was and doesn't generally like concerts but he said he had a really great time :)

NONAME is beautiful and so down to earth human being. The crowd loved her and cheered for an encore. I’m truly thankful for her to come out of her way to entertain us New Yorkers. Topaz Jone and Jazze Belle were an awesome addition to my high anticipations of the show.

Kristi Noem says she shot and killed her dog. What to know about the South Dakota governor's recent controversy.

K risti Noem, the South Dakota governor and potential vice presidential pick for Donald Trump stirred controversy this week after revealing in her new book that she shot and killed her dog.

The Guardian shared content Friday from her upcoming book , No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward , in which Noem stated that she killed her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, whom Noem intended to use for hunting pheasants. When she took Cricket out for a hunt, the dog, who she said had an “aggressive personality,” went “out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life.” Cricket, she said, behaved like a "trained assassin," and was "dangerous to anyone she came in contact with."

“I hated that dog,” Noem shared, describing the dog as "untrainable."

Why did Noem kill her dog?

The decision to kill Cricket came after Cricket attacked and killed a local farmer’s chickens, she said. Noem apologized to the farmer and helped dispose of the chickens before taking Cricket to a gravel pit and shooting the dog, which she called an “unpleasant job.”

Noem wrote that she realized after killing Cricket that she should put down another animal: a “nasty and mean” uncastrated goat on her family farm who “loved to chase” her children. She shot and killed the goat moments before her children came off the school bus. Her daughter Kennedy was confused by the scene, she recalls, asking “Hey, where’s Cricket?”

In a statement on X referring to the book excerpt, Noem wrote, “We love animals, but tough decisions like this happen all the time on a farm. Sadly, we just had to put down 3 horses a few weeks ago that had been in our family for 25 years. If you want more real, honest, and politically INcorrect stories that’ll have the media gasping, preorder ‘No Going Back.’”

Noem faces swift backlash — but some show their support

The backlash was swift against Noem, with the hashtags #KristiNoemIsAMonster and #PuppyKiller trending on X on Saturday. One social media user called Noem “an embarrassment to America,” while others criticized her for not properly training Cricket , leading to the dog's death.

“I’m appalled that anyone could be so soulless and heartless to shoot a puppy,” one wrote . “But then, think it’s cool to talk about it in a memoir like it’s something to be proud of! There’s no other way to look at @KristiNoem than as a pure, unadulterated psychopath!”

Colleen O’Brien, senior vice president of media relations at PETA, said in a statement to Yahoo News, “Most Americans love their dogs, and we suspect that they’ll consider Gov. Noem a psychotic loony for letting this rambunctious puppy loose on chickens and then punishing her by deciding to personally blow her brains out rather than attempting to train her or find a more responsible guardian who could provide her with a proper home. Noem obviously fails to understand the vital political concepts of education, cooperation, compromise, and compassion.”

Still, some people defended Noem’s actions: One X user wrote , “Kristi Noem did what she had to do, you may not agree with her, you may think she's evil for doing it. But understand this, there is no room on a farm or ranch for a dog that kills livestock. Period.”

Another shared , “The dog slaughtered the neighbors entire flock of chickens. The neighbors were helpless to do anything. Noem tried to get the dog and the dog turned to bite her. She did what she had to do. Once a dog like that taste blood it’s over.”

Politicians also came for Noem. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz shared a photo of him feeding his dog on X, along with the caption, “Post a picture with your dog that doesn’t involve shooting them and throwing them in a gravel pit. I’ll start.”

Ryan Busse, a Democratic candidate for governor of Montana, wrote on X , “Anyone who has ever owned a bird-dog knows how disgusting, lazy and evil this is. Damn.”

The Democratic National Committee also reacted to Noem killing her dog , issuing a statement on behalf of the "DNC, aka the Dogmocratic Party" that read: “As DNC’s canine companions, we’ve heard a lot from our owners about just how extreme and dangerous Donald Trump and his far-right MAGA allies are — but nothing could prepare us for the truly disturbing and horrifying passages Kristi Noem willingly chose to put in her new book.”

Rick Wilson of the anti-Trump centrist action committee The Lincoln Project called Noem “trash” in a post on X . “Decades with hunting- and bird-dogs, and the number I've killed because they were chicken-sharp or had too much prey drive is ZERO,” he wrote. “Puppies need slow exposure to birds, and bird-scent. She killed a puppy because she was lazy at training bird dogs, not because it was a bad dog.”

A possible running mate for Trump

Noem, who became South Dakota’s first female governor when she was elected in 2018, is on the list of possible VP candidates for Trump, who is set to once again face off against President Biden in the 2024 election.

In a March town hall, per one South Dakota newspaper, the Daily Republic, she responded to a question about her potential VP candidacy with, “I just want [Trump] to win, because it's clear that it's going to be a race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and I'll do what I can to help him win. I'd rather stay with all of you, though, if you'll keep me. This is my favorite job. I love this job. You guys are wonderful. And I just bought a new horse and I'm really hoping I get a chance to ride him once in a while."

Noem’s other controversies

Her recent revelation that she killed her dog is not the first controversy Noem has faced.

The politician, who is also known for her staunch anti-abortion views , came under scrutiny in 2020, due to allegations that she abused her power in order to get her daughter approved for a real estate appraiser’s license after her daughter was initially denied. Noem denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the allegations as politically motivated attacks. Noem also faces a lawsuit filed by a consumer advocacy group, which alleges that she promoted a Texas dental company on social media without disclosing any financial relationship.

This year, three South Dakota tribes voted to ban Noem from their land after she stated at a community forum in Winner, S.D., “We’ve got some tribal leaders that I believe are personally benefiting from cartels being there, and that’s why they attack me every day.” After backlash from the tribes, Noem did not apologize for the comments but instead issued a statement urging tribal leaders to “banish the cartels from tribal lands.”

Nottingham Forest v Liverpool FC - Premier League

Cue up the Shōgun jokes, because Tottenham Hotspur ’s preseason plans are starting to take shape. The club has already announced a post-season trip to Melbourne, Australia to face Newcastle just after the conclusion of the 2023-24 Premier League season, and the club is set to host Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in August.

Today, the club announced that Spurs will indeed travel to Asia as has been rumored in recent months. Tottenham will travel to Tokyo — their first trip to Japan in 33 years — for a friendly against reigning J-League champions Vissel Kobe on July 27.

The Club is delighted to announce it will be returning to Japan for the first time in 33 years this summer We will play reigning J1 League champions @visselkobe at the Japan National Stadium on 27th July as part of our preparations for the 2024/25 season. Find out more ⤵️ — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) April 25, 2024

This is maybe unsurprising considering Ange Postecoglou still has significant ties to Japan and the J-League after his stint managing Yokohama F. Marinos from 2018-21. Who knows, maybe this will give Big Ange an opportunity to return to London with some of the cream of the J-League in his luggage.

Spurs are also planning a return trip to Korea to face a K-League All-Stars team in August, and possibly another European team, rumored at first to be Bayern Munich (again). Those plans have not yet been finalized.

I kind of suspect that Spurs aren’t done with their preseason plans quite yet, and it wouldn’t surprise me if we hear about at least one more stop on their tour before all is said and done.

PGA Tour surprising duo sits atop Zurich Classic of New Orleans leaderboard

Day 1 of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans saw fresh faces on top of the leaderboard as they went low to set the tone.

Share All sharing options for: PGA Tour surprising duo sits atop Zurich Classic of New Orleans leaderboard

Zurich Classic of New Orleans, PGA Tour, Mark Hubbard, Ryan Brehm

Two duos went low at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans as Patton Kizzire and his partner Ben Kholes are tied with Mark Hubbard and Ryan Brehm.

Each team fired off bogey-free 11-under 61s to lead by one shot over three teams at 10-under, as of this writing.

Kizzire and Kholes made six birdies on the front nine to make the turn in 30 shots. Coming home, they added four birdies between holes 10-14. The duo birdied the 18th to come home in 31 strokes to cap off a strong first round.

“Well, we came out of the gates both playing really well, both birdieing the same holes. Ideally, we’d like to mix it up. But we started well and just kept it going,” Kizzire said. “Whenever one of us needed the other, we stepped up and ham-and-egged it. He was a fantastic partner. I needed him out there, and he stepped up.”

Both have played at the Zurich Classic, but it is their first time together.

“It’s pretty fun just getting out here, and like he said, having a partner. Not something we get to do hardly ever. It’s fun kind of leaning on someone else and having that camaraderie out there,” Kholes said.

Day 2 will feature a new format in Alternate-shot, which can be difficult. However, for this duo, the game plan will remain the same.

“Just trying to put ourselves in the best spots that we can and picking each other up when something doesn’t go right,” Kholes said. “That’s all you can do. Just stay in the moment and hit the best shot you can at each point, and we’ll see where that puts us.”

They were not the only players to find success; they matched Hubbard and Brehm for the low round of the day.

Teams that also performed well in the Four-Ball format on Thursday were Davis Thompson and Andrew Novak, who posted a 10-under 62.

One of the Canadian duos, Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith, are two shots back after they carded a 9-under 63. Will Zalatoris and Sahith Theegala finished Day 1 with a 7-under 65.

The betting favorites coming into the week , Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, settled for a 7-under 65 to sit four shots behind the leaders.

The afternoon wave got a little more wind on the golf course than the morning groups, but a few groups were poised to go low. Keith Mitchell and Joel Dahmen are 7-under through 11 holes. Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are also 7-under through 10 holes to start the back nine.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Congress approved a TikTok ban. Why it could still be years before it takes effect.

A person holds a sign supporting TikTok at the U.S. Capitol.

TikTok’s fate in the U.S. has never been more in doubt after Congress approved a bill that gives its parent company two options: sell it to an approved buyer or see it banned.

President Joe Biden signed the legislation into law on Wednesday.

But it could take years for the TikTok ban to actually go into effect, since its Chinese-owned parent company, ByteDance, is likely to challenge the statute in court.

And even if it survives a legal challenge, no one is quite sure what would happen next.

How soon could a potential ban take effect?

It would probably be several years from now.

According to the statute’s language, ByteDance would have nine months to divest and find an American buyer for TikTok once the bill is signed into law.

On top of that, the president can push back the deadline by an additional 90 days.

That means, without a sale, the soonest TikTok could shut down in the U.S. would be more than one year from now.

But it’s more complicated than that.

If ByteDance sues to block the implementation of the statute — which it has said it would do — the bill will be taken up by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, according to Isaac Boltansky, director of policy for the financial services firm BTIG.

Boltansky said ByteDance would file a suit no later than this fall. And while the case is under judicial review, the “clock” on any ban is effectively paused, he said.

Once the D.C. court issues its ruling, whichever side loses is likely to request a review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

That would forestall the ban by another year — meaning nothing would go into effect until 2026, Boltansky said.

TikTok will argue that the ban is unconstitutional and that it’s also taken steps to protect American users’ data. The app has already launched an aggressive lobbying campaign, featuring a number of small-business owners and influencers who say it's their lifeblood.

“We have got to make enough noise so that they don’t take away our voice,” TikTok user @dadlifejason, who has 13.8 million followers, says in a TikTok ad shared on social media.

What about finding a buyer?

The bill stipulates that TikTok can continue to operate in the U.S. if ByteDance sells the app to a U.S.-approved firm.

While large U.S. tech companies would love to get their hands on the platform, Boltansky said that Biden administration regulators — not to mention GOP critics of Big Tech firms — have no interest in expanding the power, reach or influence of such companies.

Some other outside groups might emerge. At least one led by Steve Mnuchin, who was Treasury secretary in the Trump administration, has already sought to make a bid, telling CNBC in March that he was putting together an investor group . The Wall Street Journal has also reported that former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick was looking for potential buyer partners. While ByteDance, which owns other companies, is worth hundreds of billions of dollars, TikTok would fetch less than that, experts say — especially if it is sold without its powerful recommendation algorithm.

But Boltansky believes ByteDance is unlikely to agree to any kind of sale. The Chinese government has said as much, arguing that it regards the algorithm as a national security asset. And without that, TikTok becomes much less appealing to potential buyers.

So is TikTok in the U.S. going away?

It might — but the ultimate impact may be limited. The fact is, most TikTok users already have a presence on other platforms, so the impact on their livelihoods to the extent that they operate businesses on TikTok could be limited.

According to a survey from the financial services group Wedbush, approximately 60% of TikTok user respondents said they’d simply migrate to Instagram (or Facebook) in the event of a sale, while 19% said they’d go to YouTube.

Analysts with financial services company Bernstein arrived at similar estimates. In a note to clients, they forecast that Meta, which owns Instagram and Facebook, would take over as much as 60% of TikTok’s U.S. ad revenue, with YouTube gaining 25%. Snapchat would also benefit, they said.

Why did lawmakers feel they needed to take this drastic step?

Boltansky said many political pundits remain surprised that the bill got over the finish line. But a wave of anxiety about both Chinese influence and the impact of social media on youth converged to get it passed.

“This has been noteworthy,” Boltansky said. “Everyone is so conditioned to D.C. doing nothing or the bare minimum to keep the lights on.”

As tensions with Beijing have grown, congressional lawmakers, along with top law enforcement officials, have warned that TikTok is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and is a national security threat to the United States.

“It screams out with national security concerns,” FBI Director Christopher Wray testified on Capitol Hill last year

U.S. officials fear that the Chinese government is using TikTok to access data from, and spy on, its American users, spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories.

It felt like a TikTok ban was moving slowly, then quickly. What happened?

The House passed its standalone TikTok bill on a big bipartisan vote in March. But the Senate appeared in no hurry to take up the measure as Commerce Chair Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., drafted her own legislation.

That all changed when Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., working with the White House, rolled out his $95 billion foreign aid supplemental plan last week that included billions of dollars for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

Included in that sweeping aid package: the House’s TikTok bill, with some minor changes. Johnson pushed the package through his chamber, then sent the House on a recess, forcing the Senate to take it or leave it.

Rather than further delay the critical, long-stalled military and humanitarian aid, the Democratic-controlled Senate is moving to quickly pass the package — including the TikTok bill and other Johnson priorities.

April 26, 2024 - Protests at Columbia and other schools escalate

By Elizabeth Wolfe, Dalia Faheid, Aya Elamroussi, Nouran Salahieh, Samantha Delouya, Aditi Sangal and Tori B. Powell, CNN

Our live coverage of the protests has moved here .

NYPD says "outside agitators" at Columbia are "trying to hijack a peaceful protest"

From CNN’s Josh Campbell

"Outside agitators" at Columbia are "trying to hijack a peaceful protest," New York Police Department Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry said Friday night.

“What may have started as a group of Columbia students wanting to express their constitutional right to protest has drawn crowds of outside agitators who are trying to hijack a peaceful protest and turn it something far more sinister,” Daughtry  posted on X.

The commissioner added the NYPD has seen the same groups of “professional protestors” demonstrating nightly “at various demonstrations regardless of the message.”

Daughtry reiterated the NYPD is ready to intervene and address issues on Columbia’s campus as soon as the university’s president gives them the go-ahead.

Pro-Palestinian protests continue at campuses across the US. Here’s the latest

Pro-Palestinian protests continued at major US universities through Friday evening decrying Israel's bombardment of Gaza.

Throughout the week, several schools called police on protesters, leading to the arrests of hundreds across the country. Protesters have demanded schools divest campus funds from entities connected to Israel.

Israeli attacks in Gaza have killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, according to the enclave's health ministry. Hamas’ deadly October 7 attack on Israel killed about 1,200 people.

College administrators are facing increasing pressure from lawmakers to rein in protests. At Columbia - the epicenter of the demonstrations - the school's senate passed a resolution late Friday to investigate the university leadership’s handling of the protests.

Here are the latest developments:

Arizona State University: Police at Arizona State University arrested three people Friday on suspicion of trespassing "in connection with setting up an unauthorized encampment," a university spokesperson said.

Barnard College: The school said it reached resolutions with “nearly all students who were previously placed on interim suspension” for participating in the protest encampment on Columbia’s campus.

Columbia University: The university banned a student spokesperson for the Columbia University Apartheid Divest coalition who said in January “Zionists don’t deserve to live.” He subsequently apologized.

Denver campuses: At a joint campus for the University of Colorado Denver, Community College of Denver and Metropolitan State University of Denver, around 40 of the approximately 100 people who set up a pro-Palestinian encampment were arrested Friday, the campus said in a statement.

Emory University: Faculty gathered on campus to express concerns about the violent arrests that took place on campus on Thursday, with tenured professors calling for the university's president, Gregory Fenves, to step down over the decision to call in state and local police to clear out the protesters.

George Washington University: The university said Friday that any student who remains in University Yard may be placed on temporary suspension and administratively barred from campus.

Ohio State University: A total of 36 demonstrators were arrested Thursday night after refusing dispersal orders, according to a preliminary report from the university.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: More than 75 students gathered Friday to set up an encampment at the school, demanding the university divest from corporations that invest in Israel and its military operations.

University of Southern California: School president Carol L. Folt said  in a statement the campus has become unsafe and the university will launch an inquiry and take action to protect all USC students, faculty and staff.

University of Texas at Austin: The school has placed the Palestine Solidarity Committee on "interim suspension." The group organized Wednesday's event, where over 50 arrests ensued.

Virginia Tech: School officials on Friday issued a statement about an encampment on campus, saying they told protesters the event does not comply with university policy.

Yale University: One letter from the  Faculty for Justice in Palestine  organization criticized student arrests this week and said faculty are prepared to stage walkouts and boycott Yale’s graduation ceremonies. Another letter  denounced Yale's administration  for failing "in your responsibility to protect the Jewish students, staff and faculty at Yale."

Around 40 people were arrested for establishing encampment at joint campus of 3 universities in Denver

From CNN's Sarah Dewberry, Lucy Kafanov and Taylor Romine

Pro-Palestinian protestors set up about 30 tents for a "sit-in" protest of the war in Gaza at Auraria campus in Denver, Colorado on Friday, April 26.

Around 40 of the approximately 100 people who set up a pro-Palestinian encampment at the Auraria Campus in Denver were arrested Friday, the campus said in a statement.

The campus  is home to  the University of Colorado Denver, Community College of Denver as well as the Metropolitan State University of Denver. The arrests were made by Auraria Higher Education Center Police and the Denver Police Department.

"While those who gathered at the onset of Thursday’s protest did so peacefully, some participants established an encampment as the demonstration progressed, which violates those policies," a the campus said.

Campus and education department officials directed students to dismantle and leave the encampment, and after "protestors did not comply after numerous written and verbal requests, law enforcement stepped in at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday to remove the encampments," the campus statement continued.

Barnard College reaches "resolution" with students placed on interim suspension

From CNN’s Artemis Moshtaghian

Barnard College said it reached resolutions with “nearly all students who were previously placed on interim suspension” for participating in the protest encampment on Columbia’s campus.

The college “immediately restored full access for these students to residence halls, dining facilities, classrooms, and other parts of campus,” according to a statement from the school released Friday.

At least 55 Barnard students were placed on interim suspension for participating in Columbia’s protest encampment, according to a  statement  from Barnard’s Student Government Association.

Barnard College declined to comment on the number of students suspended.

Columbia's senate passes resolution to investigate administration’s handling of Pro-Palestinian protests

From CNN’s Maria Sole Campinoti

Columbia University's senate voted in favor of a resolution to create a task force to investigate the university leadership's handling of Pro-Palestinian protests on campus, according to documents obtained by CNN.

The resolution passed Friday alleges, among other things, that the administration jeopardized academic freedom, breached privacy and due process of students and faculty members and violated shared governance principles by calling for police intervention on campus, according to documents on the meeting.

After the investigation, the task force will present its findings and recommendations to the university's senate to determine further actions and take the necessary steps to address the alleged misconduct of the administration, according to the documents.

Some context: The decision comes after the school and university president Minouche Shafik faced criticism from students, faculty and left-leaning lawmakers after Shafik authorized the New York Police Department to shut down student protests on campus, which have urged school leaders to cut off economic and academic ties to Israel. At the same time, students, religious groups and right-leaning lawmakers have said the administration has failed to stop antisemitism inside Columbia’s campus and at protests outside its gates, CNN  previously reported .

Columbia's senate represents people on campus, including faculty, researchers, students, administration and more, according to the school's website . The body has the authority to make policies on a variety of issues that affect the school.

3 people arrested in connection with setting up an encampment at Arizona State University

From CNN’s Taylor Romine

Police at Arizona State University arrested three people Friday “for trespassing in connection with setting up an unauthorized encampment, in violation of university policy,” a university spokesperson said in a statement to CNN.

“Demonstrations, protests and expressions of free speech are protected at Arizona State University, consistent with the First Amendment. Peaceful expression of views is always acceptable – but demonstrations cannot disrupt university operations,” the statement says.

Encampments, unless they are part of an approved event, are prohibited by the university, the spokesperson said in an earlier statement.

USC president says school became unsafe and that she took steps to protect the community amid protests

From CNN's Stephanie Becker and Nick Watt

The University of Southern California needed to "act immediately to protect our community" when it came to protests on campus this week, school president Carol L. Folt said  in a statement .

"This week, Alumni Park became unsafe. No one wants to have people arrested on their campus. Ever," she said. "But, when long-standing safety policies are flagrantly violated, buildings vandalized, DPS directives repeatedly ignored, threatening language shouted, people assaulted, and access to critical academic buildings blocked, we must act immediately to protect our community."

The university has "long-standing protocols that allow for peaceful protesting" and has been working with the school community to ensure they are followed during the school year, Folt said.

"The current pressures and polarization have taken a toll in ways that break my heart," she said. "I know Trojans will do what they have always done: share points of view, listen, search for common ground – and find ways to support each other."

She encouraged anyone in the campus community experiencing harassment or bullying to report it to the school, saying it would launch an inquiry and take action to protect students, faculty and staff "no matter their views."

Columbia student protest leader banned from campus after saying "Zionists don’t deserve to live"

From CNN’s John Towfighi

Demonstration leader Khymani James address the media outside a tent camp on the campus of Columbia University in New York on Wednesday, April 24.

Columbia University has banned one of the students leading the university’s pro-Palestinian protests, a university spokesperson told CNN on Friday.

Khymani James, a student spokesperson for Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) coalition, acknowledged in a post on X that he said, “Zionists don’t deserve to live,” saying it was from an Instagram Live video taken in January.

“I misspoke in the heat of the moment, for which I apologize," James wrote.

“I want to make clear that calls of violence and statements targeted at individuals based on their religious, ethnic or national identity are unacceptable and violate university policy,” the university spokesperson said.
