Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper concert a scorcher in Milwaukee on one of year's hottest nights

It’s fitting that watching Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper’s American Family Insurance Amphitheater concert Tuesday felt like standing in the pits of hell.

The devilish shock rockers’ “Freaks on Parade” tour brought them to an outdoor venue in Milwaukee on one of the hottest days in the city all year. 

“We started the tour in New Mexico, it’s (expletive) hotter in Milwaukee, what the (expletive)?” Zombie exclaimed near the end of his show-closing, 66-minute set. “I figured by the time we got here we’d be cruising.”

“This is horrible,” he continued. “Does this seem hot to you?”

A swell of affirmative cheers confirmed his suspicions, although they were pretty muted for an amphitheater concert.

Perhaps that’s because some in the sweating crowd didn’t have the energy to answer Zombie. Certainly it was because the venue wasn’t very crowded; the heat (and perhaps a Tuesday night tour stop after some summer breaks had ended) no doubt hurt ticket sales. The lower bowl at the amphitheater was full Tuesday — and, aside from a fleeting breeze, quite steamy — but the 200 sections up to the lawn were largely empty. 

And yet it’s an incredible testament to the 59-year-old Zombie, and especially to the 76-year-old Cooper, that they offered such entertaining and demanding performances under these conditions — and that they were able to bring out so much energy from the paying fans who showed up and sweated it out.

Rob Zombie thrives under 'hot as hell' conditions

Zombie understandably took some liberties to get through the set — one he suggested Tuesday was a memorable one, from dousing his face and chest with a bottle of water after “What Lurks on Channel X?” to singing a bit of “More Human Than Human” flat on his back. And no doubt he was relieved to escape the stage lights for about 90 seconds while Ginger Fish, flashing a Cheshire Cat grin, did a drum solo.

But even lying down for “More Human Than Human,” Zombie’s trademark growling voice remained forceful. If he wanted to coast, he easily could have. Besides his three band mates, the show was equipped with multiple 10-foot puppets (of a devil, a monster, an alien, and a silver cyborg with glowing green eyes), plus pyro and massive video screens that flashed irreverent and eerie visuals — as much a part of the Zombie brand as the music. (He has directed several horror films, including a couple of "Halloween" movies.)

But Zombie still made himself the center of attention, mustering up the strength to push the crowd for more energy ("I don't feel anything") at the start of "Thunder Kiss '65," whipping his long head of hair for "Feel So Numb" and dancing around for "Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown."

And when the flames made the scorching amphitheater even hotter, especially when they went into overdrive for "Superbeast," somehow, impossibly, the extreme temps got Zombie, and the crowd, even more fired up.

It may have been "hot as hell," as Zombie accurately proclaimed at one point — but he still made sure his fans had a hell of a time.

It’s been 58 years since Alice Cooper was 18 — but singing “I’m Eighteen” with wide-eyed vigor Tuesday, twirling his cane with ringmaster rellsh, Cooper really did seem like a kid again. 

Cooper made a convincing case that you’re never too old to pretend to impale a photographer (during “Hey Stoopid”), or rock out with a 10-foot-tall puppet (on “Feed My Frankenstein”), or vamp it up with a real-life snake around your shoulders (for “Snakebite”).

And you’re never too old to pretend to be beheaded by a guillotine at the hands of an eye-patch-wearing Marie Antoinette and a vampire — who were zestfully played by Cooper’s wife Sheryl and his daughter Calico, respectfully.

But it takes true talent and charisma to make this all work — which Cooper, clearly still loving what he’s doing after all these decades, had in spades Tuesday.

And the same went for the five incredibly gifted musicians surrounding him: drummer Glen Sobel, bassist Chuck Garric, and guitarists Nita Strauss, Tommy Henriksen and Ryan Roxie. All of them performed with charmingly cartoonish gusto — at one point, Strauss led a jam holding up her wailing guitar by the whammy bar — a showmanship they could only achieve by being so good at their craft.

And I’d wager, looking over the crowd, giddy even on this sweltering night, that nearly everybody catching Cooper’s 65-minute Milwaukee set felt like a kid again, too.

• True to their modus operandi, Al Jourgensen’s industrial metal band Ministry opted for the unexpected. For one, the band was actually on stage seven minutes early. Then Ministry proceeded to play three new songs in a row to start their set from this year’s “HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES” album — all of them in-your-face protest anthems, accompanied by provocative videos, condemning “toxic misogyny” (“B.D.E.”), white supremacy (“(Expletive) White Trash”) and the climate crisis (“Just Stop Oil”). I’m not sure everyone was on board with Jourgensen’s ministry — one guy in front of me flashed a middle finger at the band during “(Expletive) White Trash.” But Ministry’s lone original member has surrounded himself with five versatile metal musicians, most recruited within the last decade, that gave his blunt (sometimes simplistic) convictions some urgency. Ultimately, Jourgensen did give his Milwaukee flock what they wanted — closing out the eight-song, 42-minute set with their biggest hit, the apolitical, high octane “Jesus Built My Hotrod” — a fitting finish, he suggested, for the “home of Harley-Davidson.”
• Some artists hate it when fans watch their shows through their phones. But Filter frontman Richard Patrick is a rare case of an artist who watches their fans through their phone. Initially, it was a bit odd seeing the band’s lone original member singing “Hey Man, Nice Shot” with his phone horizontal and blocking his face as he filmed a still largely empty amphitheater. But it went back in his pocket after the first chorus, and Patrick’s neck-vein popping screams proved he wasn’t phoning it in.

• Cooper, of course, has a special connection to Milwaukee, thanks to the city history lesson he provided in the comedy classic “Wayne’s World.” So, the first time he spoke to the crowd Tuesday, he made sure to pronounce the city “Mill-e-wah-kay" as he does in the movie, which he reminded us, is Algonquin for “The Good Land.”
• In the critical battleground of Wisconsin, Cooper jokingly announced his campaign for president during “Elected,” making an impassioned speech where he vowed to “Make America creepy again.”
• Curse you, "Wisconsin Times," you scooped the Journal Sentinel again! Cooper somehow got a blown-up copy of the next day's edition of the (fictitious) Times that was hung up at the start of his set, proclaiming that he had been banned from the state due to "deeds against humanity."
• Before wrapping up the night's penultimate number, "Thunder Kiss '65," Zombie came back onstage in a customized Milwaukee Brewers jersey.
• One piece of the production during Zombie's set led to a "Spinal Tap"-style moment when he got a piece of "snow" (really a thick soap bubble) stuck in his throat.

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio -- Halloween came early to NortheastOhio on Thursday night when Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie haunted a rabid audience at Blossom Music Center.

The “Freaks on Parade Tour,” which played the same venue two years ago with a different lineup, featured Cooper, 76, tantalizing his little pretties with a tight, roughly hourlong 16-song set highlighting his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame catalog of shock-rock anthems.

Alice Cooper has announced a Spring 2022 North American tour, with support from Buckcherry on select dates.

The shows continue Cooper’s campaign in support of 2021’s Detroit Stories , a tribute to the musical legacy of the Motor City, Cooper’s hometown.

The Spring 2022 leg with Buckcherry kicks off March 18th in Mashantucket, Connecticut, and runs through April 20th in Seattle. Cooper will then meet up with ex-KISS guitarist Ace Frehley for joint concerts on April 22nd and April 23rd in Reno, Nevada, and Paso Robles, California, respectively (sans Buckcherry). The spring shows follow Cooper’s previously announced early 2022 US tour , which runs through January and February before concluding with an appearance on the Monsters of Rock Cruise.

Alice Cooper Announces 2022 North American Tour Dates

There's no rest for the wicked. Just ask Alice Cooper , who having just finished a run of U.S. dates will be back on the road just after the holidays!

Cooper will kick off a brief winter tour on Jan. 28 in Cincinnati at the ICON Music Center, with a series of shows that will lead up to his appearance on the Monsters of Rock Cruise that sets sail Feb. 9-14. He'll then hit the road in March with Buckcherry as support before playing a duo of dates with Ace Frehley in April. You can see all the dates, cities and venues listed below.

The VIP pre-sale for the run starts tomorrow (Nov. 2) at 10AM local time in each market, while the general public on-sale is set for this Friday (Nov. 5) at 10AM local time. Check Cooper's website for ticketing details.

Cooper is currently touring in support of his Detroit Stories album, a record that owes a nod to the city that helped birth his music career. The album serves as a celebration of the golden era of Detroit's rock history.

The singer's legendary stage show reveals his darker side, one that he cultivated as a young musician. Recently speaking with the Rock Classic Radio With Jenn podcast on Apple Music, Cooper recalled , "Rock 'n' roll needed a villain. True rock 'n' roll didn't have a villain," the singer recalled from his early days in rock. "We had all these Peter Pans... no Captain Hook. And .... I looked around and went, 'I will gladly be that villain."

But it's not all "bad," as he added, "I wanted Alice to be threatening and yet funny at the same time, you know? I wanted that combination of not exactly knowing what he was going to do, but you know, he may... he may slit your throat, but he would never swear at you ...know what I mean? He was a gentlemen villain and arrogant and condescending. And yet I didn't mind him slipping on a banana peel once in a while for the laugh. You know, there's nothing funnier than a guy like that, blowing it in front of an audience and then having to recover."

BUCKCHERRY Announces Final 2022 Tour Dates

Following a very successful run with ALICE COOPER , California-based rockers BUCKCHERRY have announced the final 2022 dates in support of their ninth studio album "Hellbound" . The itinerary encompasses shows in the U.S, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. VIP packages will be available on most shows. The band will also be performing on the October/November Kiss Kruise .

After finishing up the tour, the band will be heading into the studio to record its tenth studio album. The LP will once again he helmed by producer and songwriter-for-hire Marti Frederiksen , who has previously collaborated with AEROSMITH , DEF LEPPARD , Jonny Lang and Sheryl Crow , among many others.

"Hellbound" came out in June 2021 via Round Hill Records . The follow-up to 2019's "Warpaint" was recorded in the fall of 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee.

In the summer of 2020, BUCKCHERRY recruited JETBOY 's Billy Rowe as its new guitarist. He joined the group as the replacement for Kevin Roentgen , who left BUCKCHERRY in July of that year.

In 2019, BUCKCHERRY enlisted Francis Ruiz as its new drummer. He joined the group as the replacement for Sean Winchester , who exited BUCKCHERRY after laying down the drum tracks on "Warpaint" .

ALICE COOPER Announces Spring 2022 Tour With BUCKCHERRY

After wrapping a successful and uninterrupted fall 2021 tour, Alice Cooper recently announced a run of January and February dates ahead of a headline appearance on the Monsters Of Rock cruise, which takes place February 9 through 14. Today, Cooper has confirmed a slate of new spring 2022 dates, kicking off on March 18 in Connecticut and wrapping on April 23 in California. Support will come from BUCKCHERRY on most dates, with Ace Frehley appearing on some shows.

Cooper, a Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, usually spends up to six months a year on the road, bringing his iconic brand of rock psycho-drama to fans both old and new, enjoying it as much as the audience does. Alice Cooper Unveils Spring 2022 North American Tour Dates

Alice Cooper is taking his macabre rock 'n' roll circus back on the road in spring 2022: His next North American tour will feature support from Buckcherry on most dates.

The shock-rocker's spring trek begins on March 18 in Mashantucket, Conn., and concludes on April 23 in Paso Robles, Calif. It serves as an extension of his previously announced winter 2022 tour, which runs from late January through mid-February.

Cooper recently embarked on a North American tour with support from Ace Frehley , who also will join him on the last two dates of his spring 2022 run. The 73-year-old's latest album,  Detroit Stories , was released in February.

The fall dates were his first since the coronavirus pandemic began. "Everyone's trying to remember where everything is, all the little moves," Cooper told UCR before hitting the road. "It's really just getting your wings back. I think everyone’s just happy to get back onstage — it's almost to the point of being giddy."

ALICE COOPER ANNOUNCES SPRING 2022 TOUR WITH BUCKCHERRY

Alice Cooper will be hitting the road in spring of next year.

According to RTT News, Cooper will be embarking on a trek on both the East and West coasts starting in March of 2022.

Buckcherry will support Alice Cooper on the tour, which will wrap up in California on April 23 with Ace Frehley opening the shows on the last two dates.

Tickets go on sale today (December 10th).

Alice Cooper Announces Fall 2022 Tour Dates

Alice Cooper has booked additional 2022 tour dates in support of his latest album, “Detroit Muscle”

Alice Cooper recently released a new album, “Detroit Muscle,” and now, the makeup-ed rocker has announced a full-fledged fall tour to go with it. The new tour dates come after Cooper’s fall 2021 run; winter and spring U.S. 2022 tour dates; and spring and summer 2022 U.K./European tour. Needless to say, the Coop will be on the road a lot this year.

The new tour dates will kick off Sept. 7 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and run through an Oct. 8 date in Las Vegas, Nevada. VIP pre-sale begins at 10 a.m. local venue time on Tuesday (April 12), while general public on-sale begins at 10 a.m. local venue time on Friday (April 15).

Cooper’s “Detroit Stories” dropped in 2021 and is available via earMUSIC. The album is a “celebration of the sound and spirit of the Golden Era of Detroit rock,” according to a release, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Album sales chart.

Hot off the release of his acclaimed 2021 album Detroit Stories, Alice Cooper is touring tirelessly to bring fresh material and greatest hits to fans around the world.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Alice Cooper introduced shock rock to the masses-and now he's bringing it to NJPAC on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. The man (and the band) has rattled cages and undermined authority since the '70s, with musical mayhem and house-of-horrors theatrics. Hot off the release of his acclaimed 2021 album Detroit Stories, Alice Cooper is touring tirelessly to bring fresh material and greatest hits to fans around the world. He'll be joined by Buckcherry, the '90s sleaze-rock band that recently released Hellbound, its ninth album. This is an outrageous live show not to be missed.

Cooper, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, usually spends up to six months a year on the road, bringing his iconic brand of rock psycho-drama to fans both old and new, enjoying it as much as the audience does.
