Estadio Santiago Bernabeu

Estadio Santiago Bernabeu

Club: Real Madrid CF | Opening: 1947 | Capacity: 81,044 seats

History and description

In the early parts of the 20th century, Real Madrid first played at Campo De O’Donnell, and then moved to the larger Campo de Chamartín in 1924.

In 1943, Chamartin had already become too small again, and club-president Santiago Bernabéu decided that Madrid needed a new and modern 100,000-stadium.

This new stadium got built at the same site of Campo de Chamartín. Construction began in 1945, and on the 14th of December 1947 Estadio Santiago Bernabéu officially opened with a match against Portuguese champions OS Belenenses (3-1).

The stadium was initially still called Nuevo Estadio Chamartin, but received the name of the club-president eight years later.

At that time, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu consisted of two uncovered tiers that could hold just over 75,000 spectators. Capacity was further increased to 125,000 in 1954, when one of the long sides got expanded with a third tier.

The Bernabéu was together with Camp Nou playing venue of the Euro 1964 Championships, hosting one of the two semi-finals and the final between Spain and the Soviet Union (2-1).

Towards the end of the 1970s, the stadium had already started to age, and club officials started making plans to build a new stadium in the north of the city.

However, with the perspective of the 1982 World Cup it was instead decided to renovate the Bernabéu, which included the construction of a roof over the three two-tiered stands and the installation of seats in half of the stadium. As a result, capacity was reduced to 90,800 places.

During the 1982 World Cup, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu hosted three matches in the second group stage and the final between Italy and West Germany (3-1).

In the 1990s, UEFA required the stadium to become an all-seater, which would have reduced capacity to 50,000 seats. Club president Mendoza therefore started an extensive redevelopment program that included extending the third tier over the entire stadium, the creation of corporate facilities, and four access towers in each corner of the stadium. Works started in 1992 and were completed two years later.

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu got further refurbished an upgraded between 2001 and 2006. Works most of all focused on improving corporate facilities, and were concluded in 2006 with the construction of a roof over the one remaining uncovered stand.

In its history, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu has hosted four European Cup and Champions League finals . The first final was in 1957 between Real Madrid and Fiorentina (2-0), the second in 1969 between AC Milan and Ajax (4-1), the third in 1980 between Nottingham Forest and Hamburg (1-0), and the last one in 2010 between Internazionale and Bayern Munich (2-0).

In 2012, Real Madrid presented plans to further upgrade the stadium with commercial and corporate facilities, and to increase capacity to over 90,000 seats. Four architects were asked to present designs, from which the winner was chosen later in 2013. However, the project was first put on hold due to an investigation of the European Union into the granting of illegal state aid, and later rejected by the Madrid city council.

A few years later, in 2017, revised plans were presented to upgrade the stadium with a new exterior, retractable roof, and hospitality facilities, leaving capacity the same. Works started in 2019 and were planned to be performed over a two-and-a-half year period while Real would keep playing at the stadium. However, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020 and matches were forced to be played behind closed doors, works were accelerated and Real Madrid moved their home games to Estadio Alfredo de Stefano of their reserves team.

How to get to the Bernabeu

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu is located in central Madrid on the Paseo de la Castellana, one of Madrid’s principal avenues. The stadium lies about 4 kilometres north of the Plaza de Cibeles, where the Paseo de la Castellana originates. It is a similar distance from Puerta del Sol, one of Madrid’s main squares.

The stadium is best reached by metro line 10. Stop Santiago Bernabeu lies right next to the stadium. In the centre, line 10 can be caught at Plaza de España or Tribunales, but can otherwise be reached with a transfer (e.g. line 1 from Puerta del Sol or Atocha train station).

From Atocha, Paseo del Prado, or Plaza de Cibeles one can also take bus 14 or 27 to get to the stadium. Take bus 14 in the direction of Avenida Pio XII. It passes the stadium on the Paseo La Habana. Take bus 27 in the direction of Plaza de Castilla, and get off at Plaza Lima, right in front of the stadium.

From metro station Callao in the city centre, one can take bus 147. Take the bus in the direction of Barrio del Pilar and get off at Plaza Lima.

From Puerta del Sol one can take bus 150 in the direction of Colonia Virgen del Cortijo. Again, get off at Plaza Lima.

Address: Avenida de Concha Espina 1, Madrid

Eat, drink, and sleep near the Bernabeu

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu is located on the large tree-lined Paseo de la Castellana avenue, one of Madrid’s principal arteries. The area around the stadium is a mix of mostly offices, shops, and residential buildings, but there are enough bars and coffee shops mixed in to find something to eat or drink.

The number of bars and restaurants increase while you walk south in the direction of Madrid’s centre. Most nightlife is located in the northern parts of the centre.

There are a fair few hotels near the Bernabeu. The Holiday Inn Madrid , AC Hotel Aitana , and Rafaelhoteles Orense are closest, get good reviews, but are far from cheap.

Only slightly further away are Espahotel Plaza Basílica , Hotel Gran Atlanta , Hostal Falfes , Hostal Los Ángeles , and Sunotel Amaral . They get good reviews, are all close to several metro stations, tend to be reasonably priced between €50.00 and €100.00 per night, and no further than 20 minutes walking from the Bernabeu.

Click here  for an overview of all hotels near Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. If you prefer to stay in the city centre or elsewhere, these are your options.

Real Madrid Tickets

Tickets for Real Madrid games can be bought online through the official website or Ticketmaster , or at the ticket windows (taquillas) of Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

Tickets that are bought online can be picked up at the printing kiosks at the stadium.

Regular tickets tend to go on sale in the week before the match, though VIP tickets are available earlier. There is generally not much reason to buy a VIP ticket as Real Madrid only sell out a few high-profile matches per season and tickets for most matches are easily available if bought in advance.

For those matches that do sell out, e.g. El Clásico, the Madrid derby, and high-profile Champions League matches, you might have to revert to the secondary market. The likes of viagogo and Stubhub offer good choice and tend to be reliable, though can get expensive. Prices for regular matches tend to be fairer though or even lower than face value and can offer an alternative for those wanting to book their tickets longer in advance.

Ticket prices depend on the opponent, but typically start at €30.00 for a seat behind the goal and €40.00 for a seat at one of the sides.

Stadium tours

Real Madrid offer self-guided stadium tours, during which you follow a route through the stadium. The route includes the dugouts, presidential box, press room, changing rooms, players’ tunnel and trophy room, and ends in the club shop.

The stadium is opened Mondays to Saturdays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Sundays and public holidays from 10:30 am to 6:30 am. On matchdays the tour is open until 5 hours before kickoff (though with limited access).

No reservations are required, though the tour can be booked online . Entrance costs €25.00 with further premium options available.

Recently attended the Madrid derby and was sat in the top tier of the sur stand ( literally the last row of the top tier). As a previous post has stated the stands go up rather than back so the view is excellent. Found the atmosphere good but quite relaxed compared to the big British derbies, the stadium is superb but is starting to look a bit dated and the upcoming renovation is needed. A must if you are in Madrid and can get a ticket.G

I have just read your stadium review and, as a local Real Madrid fan, I must say it’s very complete (congratulations!). However, there is some recent information I’d like to let you notice so that you might be able to correct them and prevent further users be misinformed about the current and future condition of the stadium.

The most notable point which lacks updating is on the renovation project. Though it was blocked before by the city council and the European Union, there has been a lot of bureaucratic movement these last years and now only the go-ahead from the city council is needed to start renovating the stadium (which, giving how well have recently been the relations between the club and the city council, is pretty much granted). That last step is said to be done in just a matter of weeks or months so that construction work would start in summer 2018 to be finally finished in mid-2020. Once we are authorized to renovate the Bernabéu and manage to finish the renovation, we could be talking about one of the best stadiums in the world (if not the best).

Will the renovation interrupt football-related activity in the stadium? Of course not: football-inhibiting work will be done in winter and summer breaks so that the stadium will be always ready to host matches except for those periods of time. Apart from that, the renovation will not only affect the stadium: but the Esquina del Bernabéu shopping center will be completely demolished to build a new 6000 Sq Plaza de los Sagrados Corazones and another green zone will be opened between the stadium and the Paseo de La Castellana.

That is pretty much everything that was needed to say. With such a renovation, the stadium will be an arhitectural jewel as well as a Mecca for football fans. As a recommendation to improve the information provided in the page, I’d like to suggest adding these points to the page: design description, capacity distribution and locals’ and fans’ opinions on the stadium.

That’s all from me. I hope I have provided good and useful information to the users. Thanks for reading!

Best stadium in the world. Ive seen Madrid play on 6 separate ocassions. perfect size of 85,000 and so close to the pitch gives it an incredible enclosed sensation. The tour is another incredible experience. Cant wait to see the new stadium. Would have to be mindblowing as it is already an incredible stadium.

I went to watch Real again, this time against Malaga. Unfortunately it finished 0-0. Bought my ticket at one of the ticket windows before the game. It is worth mentioning that free match day programmes are available from inside the stadium. The support was not the best. The stadium itself is beautiful and well worth visiting.

The most beautiful stadium i have been to. Great location. I went to watch Real against Ajax in Champions League. Bought the ticket at the ground for 35 Euros. It is massive and even if you are sat at the very top you still manage to see everything as the upper tiers go up rather than up and back. The support from Real fans was good, but Ajax fans were amazing! Great place to go.

I was there on 14/03/2012 CL game against CSKA Moscow the game wasn’t that exiting but it is the most beautiful stadion in the world same infrastructure like AC Milan. Just lik twin stadions i also was in Milan for stadion tour also beautiful. I defenetly go back this season to Real and perhaps watching a game of ACMilan also.

You do visit the home dressing room and the freedom of the tour adds to the excitement, wonderful stadium

I agree its a wonderful stadium and right in the city centre. In some ways a bit like St James Park in Newcastle except it seats 80,000 plus and the climate’s better!!! watched Real come back to win against Espanyol and atmosphere was electric – match ended around 11.30pm then on to a few bars and back to hotel in time for breakfast.

Fantastic stadium and atmosphere. I saw RM v Espanyol and as it was January they had heaters warming the fans from the stand above, so although it was cold I had to shed some layers.

The Santiago Bernabeu is a fantastic stadium to visit when you are in Madrid! I watched Real Madrid play against Real Zaragoza at the Bernabeu last year (2011) and they lost 3-2 but still the experience of watching Real Madrid was amazing and fantastic! I loved the singing from the Ultras Sur end! I really recommend visiting the Bernabeu if you are in Madrid because it is a massive stadium and it’s amazing! I did the stadium tour aswell on the day I was leaving Madrid! I am going back to Madrid and the Bernabeu this year (2012) to watch another Real Madrid match and they play against Sporting de Gijon this time! I hope they win this time and not lose!

Very pleasant tour but if you don’t have a guide, there is no-one you can ask questions to. You do not go into the home team changing room. You go up the tunnel to get there and so do not have the experience of going down the tunnel to enter the stadium in the style of the players. Also, you cannot sit on the Real Madrid manager’s seat. In these respects, the tour at Manchester United is much better. I had an excellent tour guide, Marianne.

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu: Visit Real Madrid’s stadium

estadio santiago bernabeu

The Santiago Bernabéu is the Real Madrid Club de Fútbol stadium, and it hosts the matches of one of the city’s football clubs.

Are you planning to attend an Real Madrid match? Make sure to get your Real Madrid tickets well in advance! Here’s a complete guide to do so, in case you need it. If you’re interested in the current season, check the official dates to see if any of these fits your itinerary.

Table of Contents

The history behind the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu

It was inaugurated in 1947, though major renovations have taken place throughout the years, specially in 1982, 2001, and most recently in 2022. Its current capacity is 85,500 people.

The Real Madrid CF, also known as Madrid, was founded in 1902 and it is one of the most important sport symbols of Madrid. Because of the city’s other club and main rival, the Club Atlético de Madrid, the city is basically divided in half between Madrid and Atlético fans.

Real Madrid CF supporters are popularly known as ‘Merengues’. You’ll hear them shout songs and chants as soon as you enter the premises. The atmosphere is specially impressive if this is your first time attending a football match.

Don’t miss the areas located behind the goals. The ‘Vikingos’ are always located at the fondo norte , while the ‘Ultra Sur’ are on the opposite side. Both groups always have the initiative when supporting and singing. From time to time, they organize mosaics if the match is a special occasion.

How to buy Real Madrid tickets

The easiest way to get your Real Madrid tickets is buying them online .

The purchasing process is very easy and here are the steps you should follow:

1. First, have a look at the official calendar of matches and check the dates when Real Madrid CF play home. Please bear in mind that the final date and time of the match are confirmed only a few days before.

Note that the match generally takes place on a Saturday or Sunday, although La Liga also takes place on Fridays and Mondays. It’s rare but matches can sometimes take place other days of the week due to calendar restrictions.

2. Then, choose the area of the Santiago Bernabéu where you would like to seat. Don’t worry, it’s easy looking at the seating chart.

3. Finally, once you have selected the match and the seat area, complete the purchasing process. Double check your personal details, particularly your email address to get your purchase confirmation email.

Avoid the waiting lines and book your tickets now!

How to get to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium

The stadium is located in the Chamartín neighborhood, a residential area relatively far away from Madrid’s city center.

You can get there by

  • Subway catching line 10 (dark blue) and getting off at the Santiago Bernabéu station.
  • Bus catching one of the following lines: 14, 27, 40, 43, 120, 147 and 150.
  • Cercanías train (lines C-1, C-2, C-3, C-4, C-7, C-8 and C-10) getting off the train at the Nuevos Ministerios station, you have the option of walking to the stadium (8-9 minutes) or taking the subway line 10 towards Santiago Bernabéu. Another possibility is to get off at the Chamartín station and take the bus (line 14 or 150) to get to the stadium.
  • Taxi , though I don’t recommend it unless you have a good sense of direction, and you have some written directions to guide you along the ride.

Visit the Santiago Bernabéu stadium

The ‘Bernabéu Tour’ walks you through the most emblematic areas of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Visit the trophy room, the home team changing room, the press room, and the players’ tunnel. Additionally, you can access to different areas of the stadium, including the field grass.

The tour is self-guided and includes: a panoramic view, the Best Club in History room, the Sensations Room, the pitch, the presidential box, the dugouts and technical area, the players’ tunnel, the dressing rooms, the press room and the club’s official store.

There are many incredible venues around the world to watch the beautiful game.

Here at The18, we love to hear stories and experiences from the world's best stadiums. So, with the help of our loyal readers, we are creating guides for stadiums around the world. It’s in any true soccer fan's dreams to experience the stadiums where some of the sport's biggest moments have unfolded: Camp Nou, Old Trafford, Celtic Park and the like. Fortunately for us, we caught up with Casey Rhine who recently went to a match in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu to watch Real Madrid take on Valencia. Fortunately for you, we asked her everything you need to know about seeing a match and taking a tour of the Bernabéu.

What are the logistics of organizing a tour at the Bernabéu? How much does it cost?

Thankfully, I didn't do any of the organizing. My Study Abroad program was in charge of that. I'm sure that it is a pretty seamless process though. I know that it costs 19 Euros to tour, but they do offer group discounts.

Where do you go during the tour?

The tour starts with an awesome panoramic of the entire stadium. It was easy to imagine what the stadium looks like completely full. I got chills just thinking about it! Then they feed you into a huge hall that outlines the entire history of the team. This is where they keep all of the trophies. (We have 10 from Champions League titles alone. Hair flip.) It's a well-deserved bragging room where we were able to see all of the success of the best football team in the world. There were touch screens where we could watch video clips of some of the best goals, interviews, and other moments out of Real Madrid's history.

This room, and a lot of the other halls that I will mention later, were all very ambient as far as lighting goes: really dark, super intense. Loved it. We entered next into a room in which one full wall was a screen that showed all of the members of the team juggling along with their stats. You'll see an example in the photos. I really don't like Sergio Ramos. At all. (Hint: That's the biggest lie I've ever told). This was followed by a pass through the presidential suite as well as the VIP section of Bernabeu. Then, we headed to the dressing rooms. I didn't freak out at all passing by the showers. The players each have their lockers with some sweet action shots. We were essentially members of Los Blancos, as we walked out of the tunnel and onto the field. I couldn't help but think how many great players have stood were I was standing. Especially Ramos. We hung out on the field for at least a half hour. We were drawn to the magic atmosphere that the field holds, even when it is empty. We then went to the pressroom, where we could sit behind the desk. We took photos with the Champions League trophy, as well as an extremely well Photoshop-ed photo with your favorite player. Guess who I chose? Then, the tour ended in the official store. I didn't buy anything because I didn't have the funds to purchase an official jersey. I figured I could buy one from a sketchy street vendor later. Before I went to the game against Valencia, I managed to find a Ramos jersey for only 20 Euro in Plaza del Sol. Talk about a steal. The originals were at least 85. The whole thing took about an hour and a half, unguided.

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

Lets be honest, how many Cristiano Ronaldo cut outs and posters do you see on the tour?

Actually, there were not as many as you would think! He definitely had a presence on the tour, but not exponentially larger than any other player. They featured Bale, James, Ramos, Marcelo, Pepe, and Chicharito a lot as well. In reality though, how can you not feature him? This guy is the best at what he does. He deserves to be featured. People think he's this super cocky futbolista, but after doing some research I've actually found that he's a really great guy. He donated a lot of money to the earthquake efforts in Nepal, and I don't know if you've seen the viral video about his practice shot gone awry. He nailed a kid in the face, and as his team left the field, he ran over to the kid to make sure he was ok and gave him his jersey.

What is the setting like around the Bernabeu?

During the game, it was unlike anything I have ever seen. When Iker Casillas came out onto the field, for example, the entire crowd was chanting "IIIIIKERRRR IIIKERRR IIIIIIKERRRR." It was awesome. And, no surprise, when Ronaldo came on the field, the crowd lost their minds. The fans were so extremely involved in the game, nothing like sporting events in the United States where everyone is wasted and standing up and barely paying attention. Here, the crowd was sitting down, and ACTUALLY PAYING ATTENTION. There was talk about what was happening on field, and when the ref made a bad call (or just about any call against Real or for Valencia) everyone booed and whistled in disapproval. But boy, the crowd makes a huge turnaround when Real Madrid scores. Everyone jumps out of their seats, screams, hugs each other, gives high fives around. It's awesome. Watching a Real Madrid game is like an emotional roller coaster.

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

Was the grass in the Bernabeu as pristine as Cristiano's hair?

After seeing both up close and personal, I can confidently say that they are equally well groomed.

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

What beer do they sell at the Bernabeu?

You can't buy alcoholic beverages at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. I know, sounds stupid. But it's actually a REALLY smart choice. They mandated this to to keep the often violent rivalries at bay. Alcoholic beverages are not sold or allowed in the arena, but the devotion and passion of fans is honestly all the intoxication one needs to really get into it. They sell non-alcoholic beers, like Mahou Sin.

What is the locker room like?

Exactly as you would imagine a professional sports team's locker room to look. It was white, clean, and filled with girls giggling about the fact that their favorite player had been naked "RIGHT. WHERE. I'M. STANDING." *fans self* Anyways...as I said before each player's locker has on it their jersey number and a rather action-y shot of themselves during game time.

What was your first thought when you entered the stadium?

For the first time, when I took the tour, I imagined it full of people and thought wow, this must be amazing during game time. And I was sure as hell right. I walked in, and the stadium was completely full, and everyone was screaming, chanting, and waiting for the game to begin. If I'm going to be completely frank, my first thought was "holy s**t."

Whats the coolest thing you saw?

Seeing two goals scored! Everyone was freaking out, especially because one of the goals was scored by Pepe, a defender. I seriously could feel the ground moving beneath me because everyone was jumping around.

Would you say it's a must to take the tour if you're visiting Madrid?

If you are a futbol fan, abso-freaking-lutely.

Do you consider yourself a fan of Los Blancos now?

Always have been, but more so now!

Is the atmosphere at the Bernabeu the best you've ever been in?

Let me tell you, I've been to a lot of concerts, games, matches, etc. in my day. The atmosphere in Bernabeu is unlike anything I've ever experienced in my entire life.

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

How was the food?

It's a tradition that everyone brings a bocadillo (sandwich) to eat during halftime. If you forgot yours, you can buy them there with jamón, lomo, tuna, or a mix of veggies. I got a hot dog, it was delicious!

Did you get involved with any chants? What were they?

They sing this chant before every match starts. It's awesome. The entire stadium sings the song, and I'm not going to lie, I got chills. Full body.

Santiago bernabéu stadium.

Found on the Paseo de Castellana, the Santiago Bernabéu is the home of Real Madrid FC - loved and hated in equal measure. It is also one of the most visited sights in Madrid, with more than a million visitors per year.

Inaugurated in 1947 as the 'Nuevo Estadio Chamartin' (New Chamartin Stadium), its current name was chosen in honor of Santiago Bernabéu, president of the team for 35 years.

The stadium has a capacity of 80,000 , making it one of the stadiums with the largest capacity in all of Spain. The most fortunate spectators also have the possibility of watching a game from one of the 245 VIP boxes which line the stadium.

Meca for fans

The Santiago Bernabéu is a place that inspires passion and excitement in its visitors ; as the majority are fans of Real Madrid, walking onto the field of play, or passing through the changing rooms just like their idols before each game is a dream come true.

For those with less interest in football, this is perhaps not the best option, but in Madrid, they will have no trouble finding other kinds of activities and tours best aligned with their interests.

Stadium Reforms

To maintain its status as one of the premier stadiums worldwide, important reforms to the structure will take place beginning in 2018 and are expected to be   finished in early 2024.

The most important aspects of the reform include a retractable, wrap-around roof giving the new stadium a futuristic style . The changes come with the construction of a luxury hotel, as well as the redevelopment of the public space which surrounds the stadium.

The Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, located north of central Madrid, is the city's main  fútbol  (soccer) stadium and the domain of the world's most successful club: Real Madrid. It was named after the legendary Madrid manager, who presided over the club for 35 years. After its opening in 1947, the stadium was completely refurbished leading up to the 1982 World Cup, which it hosted.  Fútbol  is an integral part of Spanish life, and the stadium's sheer size is an example of this (it can accommodate more than 80,000 fans).

In 2019, Real Madrid began remodeling Santiago Bernabéu. Among its new features are a retractable roof and a removable pitch that can be reassembled, which allows the stadium to be used for other events like concerts, conventions and other sports.

Tours typically include access to panoramic views of the stadium and the Real Madrid C.F. Museum, where you can admire the team's Champions League titles. Interactive screens are also interspersed throughout, in which you can review the club's most defining moments.

Recent travelers said tours are not worth it until construction of the new stadium is complete. Families recommend the trophy room for kids, while football fans enjoyed being in such a massive stadium, suggesting a visit for the atmosphere of a live game with cheering crowds to get the real experience. For more information, visit the stadium's  website . You can find the venue off the Santiago Bernabeu metro stop.

Tour hours vary by season and the team's schedule.

Should you want to take a tour, tickets cost 30 euros (about $32) for adults and 22 euros (about $23.60) for kids ages 5 to 14. You can also book a guided visit, if you're willing to fork over a little more coin.

#1 El Retiro Park (Parque del Buen Retiro)

To the east of central Madrid,  Parque del Buen Retiro (El Retiro Park) can be translated as "Garden of the Pleasant Retreat," and that's what it is – a sprawling swath of lush greenery filled with formal gardens, lakes, cafes, playgrounds and more. This 300-acre park previously housed Felipe IV's palace and gardens, and wasn't open to the public until the late 19th century. In 2021, it was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site along with Paseo del Prado as "a landscape of arts and sciences."

Today, you can still rent a rowboat before heading to the  Palacio de Cristal  (Crystal Palace), which holds regular art exhibitions. You can also stop and smell the roses in the  Rosaleda (Rose Garden), which boasts more than 4,000 roses; May and June are the best months to see them in full bloom. Plus, for those traveling with little ones, the Teatro de Titeres hosts puppet shows most weekends. To the south lies a fountain where uncannily, the angel Lucifer stands before his fall from grace. Madrileños claim that the Ángel Caído (Fallen Angel) statue is the only one in the world depicting the Prince of Darkness before his transformation.

Spain: A sing-song Bernabéu - stars at Galacticos stadium

Once an injection. Has there been an improvement?

Bruce Springsteen's 2016 concert was one of the reasons why rumours began to circulate in the Spanish capital that Santiago Bernabéu was not a good place for a successful concert. 55,000 people filled the Madrid stadium to enjoy a performance by a true rock legend. The show, in theory, should have pleased the audience... but the complaint after the concert was one and universal: a reverberation so bad that the music could not be heard. A rumble confirmed that, at the time, Real's stadium was not suitable for cultural events.

In this regard, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu was also redeveloped. Florentino Perez's architectural work involved the Kalzip company, which has extensive experience in the distribution of metal, aluminium facades and roofs. The German company is responsible for cladding The Sphere in Las Vegas, or Brazil's MRV Arena in Belo Horizonte.

The bottom element is a perforated sheet in combination with mineral wool insulation, which improves the acoustic absorption of the surface. This reduces reverberation, which in simple terms means sound reflection. This type of treatment is essential for concerts and other events where the acoustics of the venue are required - the people at Kalzip explain.

Stadium adapted for other events

The authorities of the Domingueros event, which will take place on May 12, have made public on their social networks some photos showing the transformation of the stadium for the concert. A configuration that will certainly not be very different from what it will look like on the two previous days, when the RBF White Party and Premier Remember will take place.

From what can be seen in the pictures, the stage is attached to the southern end and the sides of the stage including the northern part can be covered by spectators attending the events. In addition, the area where the pitch is normally located will have four bar areas and a large VIP area .

In addition to the work involved in adapting the stadium slab for each event, the club will carry out a number of changes to the stands to, for example, allow for the extension of the stairs area to facilitate access to the pitch. The club has been working on these types of specifications for some time, and these processes will be automated over time to transform the stadium into a system that can be best adapted to each new event.

All that remains to finalise the new Estadio Santiago Bernabéu is the interior and exterior lighting, including the impressive video mapping that formed part of the original design. Video mapping is a visual technique involving the display of images, usually accompanied by sound. Its mechanism is simpler than you might think: using a computer system and several projectors, a desired image is created on a specific stadium construction. It is a detail that offers the possibility of creating very ambitious advertising campaigns.

A singing Bernabéu

During the Real Sociedad San Sebastian - Real Madrid match (0:1), the first concert at the new Santiago Bernabéu was played at Los Blancos stadium. As for the technical issues: the roof was closed and the video scoreboard was not activated. Spectators agreed that the closed stadium helped to improve the reception of the concert, and that the temperature inside the arena was warmer than on the street that evening. Ticket prices turned in the region of €40 and the event attracted 30,000 people .

The highlight and biggest surprise was when the band Camela sang Cómo no te voy a querer on stage. The entire stadium accompanied the legendary Spanish group in singing the famous Los Blancos chant, recalling Real Madrid's European Cup triumphs. Earlier, DJ Nano, wearing a Los Galacticos shirt with the number 44 on the back, performed. The crowd played to his beats, as well as to songs by Modestia Aparte.

The Locos por la música event on April 26, 2024 inaugurated an endless season of cultural events at the new Bernabéu. The festival offered seven hours of music by various Spanish artists such as Camela, Juan Magán, Seguridad Social and Modestia Aparte. The event was a great success and opened the 2024 concert marathon.

List of stars at the Bernabéu

The first concert has already taken place, but the Bernabéu will continue to host numerous musical events in 2024. Certainly the most anticipated of these will be Taylor Swift's double performance on 29 and 30 May 2024.

Most of the artists who will perform this year come from Spain and are very well-known among Iberian music fans. On 8 June 2024, Duki will become the first city artist to perform at a football stadium in Spain. Huelva-born Manuel Carrasco will give his only concert in Iberia on June 29, 2024, becoming the first national artist to announce a concert at Real Madrid's renovated stadium.

On July 6 and 7, 2024, Luis Miguel will give two concerts, but this will not be the end of that month. Charles G, the Colombian artist will perform at the stadium as part of his Mañana será bonito Tour from 20 to 23 July 2024. The King of Bachata, Romeo Santos, with his group Aventura, will land at the Bernabéu on 7 and 8 September as part of his Cerrando Ciclos tour. Santiago Bernabéu stadium will bid farewell to the year with a concert by the band Aitana on December 28, 2024, while Lola Indigo will perform at the first show confirmed for 2025.

US singer and songwriter Taylor Alison Swift, also known as Taylor Swift performs on stage at the ... [+] Paris La Defense Arena as part of her The Eras Tour, in Nanterre, north-western France, on May 9, 2024.

Taylor Swift thrilled fans with the addition of performances from her latest album The Tortured Poets Department when she kicked off the European leg of The Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday, May 9, 2024. She jokingly called that section of the show Female Rage: The Musical . Most concertgoers already knew and sang along to every word of all the songs she sang from the album even though it was released just a few weeks earlier on April 19. Such is the power of Swift.

In her long career of riveting live shows, her stunning performance of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” may very well be her masterpiece so far. Swift is enjoying unprecedented success with her latest albums and tour, which showcase how she can tell a story like no other artist. Both her singing voice and her literary voice are stronger than ever, and it’s joyful to watch Swift embody and embrace her mightiness as a performer.

It's no wonder many fans are willing to travel hundreds or even thousands of miles for the chance to see Taylor Swift perform live. Since tickets sold out so quickly for the few remaining U.S. tour dates and resellers are aware of the intense demand, some fans discovered it was more doable to attend one of her international shows.

So, many fans in the U.S. and other countries have decided to make a vacation out of going to The Eras Tour in Europe this summer. If you are among them, here’s some advice on how to make the most of your international adventure.

Consider Your Lodging and Transportation Choices First

Before buying a ticket, be sure that you will have accommodations available. If you can book a hotel that’s within walking distance of a stadium and know the area is safe, that is ideal. Otherwise, check bus and train schedules for the night of your venue, then look at hotels that might be close to bus or train stops.

With tens of thousands of fellow concertgoers leaving at the same time, transportation can get tricky. If you book a room that’s farther from the venue, try to get a rental car instead of vying for a taxi or rideshare after the show. If you do that, just be sure parking will be available. You may need to buy a parking pass from the venue.

Also be aware that hotel room prices skyrocket when Swift is in town because there is such a high demand. If you are renting a car and don’t mind a longer drive, you can save a lot of money by booking a hotel room that’s a longer drive from the venue.

Enjoy The Moment

Amy Wilkinson, a 49-year-old Swiftie from Tucson, AZ, went viral in December 2023 for her reenactments of The Eras Tour performances using Elf on the Shelf dolls. She posted them to her Instagram, @Tswizzle_Momma , and found thousands of people watching each time she posted her videos. Like many other Swifties in the US, she is flying to Europe for The Eras Tour.

Wilkinson told me she had this advice for fellow fans going to the show abroad, “Enjoy the entire experience, from the moment you get on the plane until the morning after. You may be going for the concert, but the memories are made in the details. See the sights. Enjoy the food. Meet other Swifties. This is at the heart of what international travel is about.”

Make The Friendship Bracelets

Rebecca Bartley, a Swiftie from Nova Scotia, Canada, is going to Sweden to see The Eras Tour. She advises bringing friendship bracelets to share with fellow concertgoers on the night of your show. Wilkinson suggested making friendship bracelets in the language of the country where you’ll be seeing the show.

MARINA DEL REY, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 13: A Taylor Swift fan, friendship bracelet detail, attends the ... [+] opening night theatrical release of "Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour" at AMC Marina Marketplace 6 on October 13, 2023 in Marina del Rey, California. (Photo by Amanda Edwards/Getty Images)

It’s easy to learn how to make friendship bracelets. I had never dabbled in making jewelry before, but now I find great joy in creating friendship bracelets. I created dozens and handed them to fans at The Eras Tour movie.

To make friendship bracelets, I start by choosing the colors I want and which word or phrase I want the bracelet to express. Then I choose colorful beads and pick out all the necessary letter beads.

Next, I cut off elastic string. I find it’s best to use Stretch Magic elastic string because of its strength and durability. To make the bracelets, I cut off a piece of string that’s twice as long as I need so that there is ample room for cutting and tying multiple knots.

Then I tape one end of the string to my workspace, string the beads I have set aside until I feel like the bracelet is complete. Being careful to not let any of the beads slide off the string, I then wrap it around my wrist to see how it fits and then consider whether I am making the bracelet for a wrist that’s likely larger or smaller than mine. (Also, with elastic string, there’s room for a flexible fit.) I adjust accordingly.

As a last step, I make four to five knots in the string to tie off the bracelet. Many fans choose to add a dab of fabric glue to the end of the knot, but I found that got really messy and wasn’t necessary if you make multiple knots. Then I tuck the knots into one of the beads so that it doesn’t show on the bracelet. Then the bracelet is concert-ready!

Keep in mind that there are a lot of other ways to make friendship bracelets that are for more involved and creative that mine. And, if the idea of making friendship bracelets doesn’t sound fun to you, don’t worry. You can buy premade friendship bracelets on Etsy. Some Etsy shops like RainFoxx13 and BonniesBracelet have elaborate, beautiful friendship bracelets that you may want to keep for yourself. Others sell packs of friendship bracelets in bulk.

If you don’t want to trade friendship bracelets, that’s okay, too. The Swiftie community is accepting and supportive, and you still may get several bracelets as gifts.

What To Wear To The Eras Tour

There are no rules for what you should wear to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour beyond the guidelines from the venue. Some fans go casual, and others choose to dress to the nines for the show. Some fans choose to wear merch from Taylor Swift’s official store . Many fans choose to dress up in costumes inspired by Swift’s songs and lyrics.

With the release of The Tortured Poets Department and its video “Fortnight,” some fans are choosing to imitate some of her looks from the video. Others are wearing their interpretation of the incredible costumes she wears during The Eras Tour concert. Others look at past eras for inspiration. You are likely to see every era represented in fan costumes at a show.

What You Should Bring To The Eras Tour In Europe

Wilkinson advised me that the number one thing to bring is a portable phone charger. If you plan on recording video and taking photos, your phone’s battery may die down quickly, and a phone charger can ensure you can keep capturing the memories all night.

Earplugs are a good idea if you’re sensitive to loud noise. If you’re bringing kids along, they are a must. They ensure you can enjoy the music while protecting your ears.

Bring along a cardigan or jacket. Layering is a good idea for a concert during the summer. Although it may be hot in the stadium, you might be chilly on the way home from the show.

You can’t go wrong bringing along hand sanitizer and a travel pack of tissues. Even if you can get through “All Too Well” without tearing up, you may cry at the sheer excitement of the experience. It can be intense in the best way.

If you have tickets that are far back, bring along binoculars to see close-up details.

What To Avoid At The Eras Tour

Don’t come to the stadium with a big bag. If you haven’t attended stadium concerts before, you may not know that you need to carry a clear bag if you want to bring a purse. It also has to fit within the measurements allowed in the stadium, so you can’t just buy a clear backpack and expect to get in the show. Check with your show’s venue to make sure you follow their rules for what you can bring.

How To Get Taylor Swift Tickets In 2024

Tickets have already gone on sale for the rest of the currently confirmed dates of The Eras Tour for 2024. However, you can get secondhand tickets from resellers. It’s usually not a good idea to buy from individuals in Facebook groups offering to sell tickets. That’s hard to verify, and many are scammed that way. Instead, check with the individual venue to see how their resell process works. It varies throughout Europe depending on the country and the individual stadium.

How to get tickets to international shows on Taylor Swift’s 'Eras Tour'

The “Shake It Off” singer’s fan base infamously crashed Ticketmaster when they overcrowded the system while trying to buy tickets when they went live on Nov. 15, 2022. Since then, the platform has employed a new ticket purchasing process that has kept crashes at bay — so far.

The new purchasing multi-step process first requires pre-registration in order to be eligible for pre-sales and regular sales. However, pre-sales and registration are closed for all current international tour dates.

Fans who are interested in attending an international show can try purchasing tickets on reseller sites such as StubHub and SeatGeek.

Taylor Swift in Madrid: dates, timings, setlist and everything you need to know

The Eras tour has arrived in Europe – here’s everything you need to know about her upcoming shows in Madrid

Llorenç Julià Ruiz

Swifties of Madrid , your wait is nearly over. Following the release of her brand-new double album The Tortured Poets Department , Taylor Swift has finally landed in  Europe with the Eras Tour (the highest-grossing tour in history, we’ll have you know).

The tour kicked off in Paris last night  and she’ll be heading to Madrid at the end of May. Got tickets? Lucky you. This is everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s upcoming shows in the Spanish capital.

When are the Taylor Swift concerts in Madrid?

The global popstar will perform twice at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium , on May 29 and 30 .

What time will Taylor Swift come on stage?

The show on May 29 will start at 8pm, while the performance on May 30 will kick off earlier, at 6.30pm. Based on the timings of her first Paris show, we estimate she’ll take to the stage between 9 and 9.30pm on May 29, and between 7.30 and 8pm on May 30.

When will the concert end?

The Eras Tour shows tend to last over three hours, and some have lasted almost four. Depending on any surprise songs or guest appearances, t he shows should end at around 12.30am on May 29, and 11pm on May 30.

Are there any tickets left?

Sadly both Madrid shows have completely sold out.

How much are the tickets?

Ticket prices range between €85 and €226.50, while VIP passes cost a whopping €589.

What is the setlist for The Eras Tour?

The release of The Tortured Poets Department understandably raised questions about whether Taylor would adapt her setlist to include some of her 31 new songs… and she did not disappoint.

This is the setlist for the Eras Tour, in order, based on the first Paris show:

  • Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince
  • Cruel Summer
  • You Need to Calm Down
  • You Belong With Me
  • We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
  • I Knew You Were Trouble
  • All Too Well (10-minute version)
  • … Ready For It?
  • Don’t Blame Me
  • Look What You Made Me Do

Folklore/Evermore (now combined into one Era)

  • champagne problems
  • illicit affairs
  • my tears ricochet
  • Blank Space
  • Shake It Off
  • Wildest Dreams

The Tortured Poets Department (new!)

  • But Daddy I Love Him
  • So High School
  • Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
  • The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
  • I Can Do It With A Broken Heart

Surprise songs

  • Paris (from Midnights)
  • loml (from TTPD)
  • Lavender Haze
  • Midnight Rain
  • Vigilante Shit

And these are the songs which have been removed:

  • The Archer (from Lover era)
  • Long Live (from Speak Now era)
  • the 1 (from folklore era)
  • the last great american dynasty (from folklore era)
  • ’tis the damn season (from evermore era)
  • tolerate it (from evermore era)

Who will be supporting Taylor Swift in Madrid?

The pop-punk band Paramore will support Taylor throughout the European Eras Tour.

Prohibited objects

The Santiago Bernabéu stadium does not admit bulky objects (which could hamper an evacuation), or drinks or food in containers made from metal, glass, ceramics or wood.

There’s no smoking on the premises, including vaping, and you can’t bring pets either.

Where else in Europe will Taylor Swift perform?

The tour will pass through the capital at the end of May, and will end in Europe on August 20, in London. These are all of Taylor Swift's dates on her European tour:

  • May 17, 18 and 19 - Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

estadio santiago bernabeu stadium tour

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
