Steve Martin, Martin Short announce comedy show at Mershon Auditorium in November
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two comedy legends are bringing their tour to Ohio State this fall.

“Martin and Short’s chemistry and timing on stage reflect a friendship forged over three decades which developed when they met for the first time on the set of the 1986 film ‘Three Amigos.’ These two titans of comedy have been touring together since 2015 when they launched their live show entitled ‘A Very Stupid Conversation’,” LiveNation said.

Dave Chappelle's 'The Closer' controversy
Dave Chappelle, who lives in Yellow Springs, Ohio, came under fire in 2021 for his Netflix standup special "The Closer." The special provoked backlash due to his remarks about the LBGTQ+ community , in particular his focus on the transgender community.
In the special, Chappelle resurfaced a December 2019 controversy in which “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling drew backlash after conflating sex with gender and defending ideas suggesting that changing one's biological sex was a threat to her own gender identity.
Chappelle also attempted to paint a juxtaposition between the pace of civil rights gained by the LGBTQ community and those fought for by the Black community.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos defended his decision to keep the special on the streaming service amid internal criticism from company employees.
Sarandos sent a staff memo at the time pledging Netflix's commitment to the special, citing Netflix's work in supporting their talent's creative freedom.
Sarandos' support of the special led to a walkout from a group of Netflix employees in 2021, a gesture that was amplified by emotional pleas from supporters of the walkout who rallied outside company headquarters.
The employees said company executives dismissed their concerns that Chappelle's comments in "The Closer" could lead to violence against the trans community.
At the time, two employees, one transgender and one non-binary, filed labor charges against the streaming giant alleging the company retaliated against them for speaking out aboutChappelle's special.
Hours before the walkout, Netflix shared a statement with USA TODAY: "We value our trans colleagues and allies, and understand the deep hurt that’s been caused. We respect the decision of any employee who chooses to walk out, and recognize we have much more work to do both within Netflix and in our content.”
"I want everyone in this audience to know that even though the media frames this that it's me versus that community, that is not what it is," Chappelle said in a 2021 Instagram clip. "Do not blame the LBGTQ (sic) community for any of this (expletive). This has nothing to do with them. It's about corporate interest, and what I can say, and what I cannot say."
"The Closer" received two Primetime Emmy nominations in 2022, including outstanding variety special (pre-recorded). Stan Lathan was also nominated for outstanding directing of a variety special for his work on "The Closer."
After the Emmy nominations were announced, people on social media voiced their frustration and criticized the decision to give further recognition to Chappelle's Netflix special.
Dave Chappelle attacked onstage
In May 2022, Chappelle was attacked onstage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles during the Netflix Is A Joke festival.
An audience member stormed the stage asChappelle, 48, was exiting the stage after his performance, lunging at him and tackling him to the ground, according to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
The man also pointed a replica handgun, which contained a knife blade, at Chappelle during the encounter, resulting in a charge for assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
The man was identified as Isaiah Lee and in December 2022, he was sentenced to 270 days in county jail.
Dave Chappelle hosting 'Saturday Night Live'
In November 2022, Chappelle hosted "Saturday Night Live" for a third time, and the reception was not warm.
"SNL" writer Celeste Yim shared a seemingly pointed message after Chappelle was announced as host. "I'm trans and non-binary. I use they/them pronouns. Transphobia is murder and it should be condemned," they wrote on their Instagram Story alongside a photo from work, captured by a Reddit screenshot.
The hosting gig also came on the heels of "SNL" having just recently hired its first nonbinary cast member, Molly Kearney, just months before.

Luenell On Tour
No topic is off-limits when Luenell takes the mic. A bold and fearless performer who's not afraid to get a little nasty, she has been tearing it up on stages and screens for more than 25 years. The result is a uniquely eventful and totally wild comedy career that's included everything from playing Borat's girlfriend to being inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame.
Luenell began her career in entertainment as a stand-up comedian at clubs in the Bay Area and as a TV host for the Oakland cable station Soul Beat. After relocating to Los Angeles, she hustled hard for spots at the city's foremost comedy clubs while scoring parts in film and TV.
She found an invaluable friend and mentor in Robin Harris, the beloved actor and comedian who died in 1990. His encouragement and Luenell's experiences as a remarkably resilient woman in a male-dominated world led to a brand of comedy that was distinctive, unpredictable, raunchy, and very much her own.
After years in the stand-up trenches, Luenell saw her career heat up in a big way when she became one of the only bona fide actors in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan . In the wake of her hilarious appearance in the 2006 comedy blockbuster as the prostitute girlfriend of Sacha Baron Cohen's title character, Luenell was in very high demand.
She appeared on TV shows like The Tony Rock Project and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia . She had roles in movies like Think Like a Man and That's My Boy . She showed off her well-honed stand-up skills on Snoop Dogg Presents The Bad Girls of Comedy , Comics Unleashed , Katt Williams: Katthouse Comedy , and The Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav .
In 2009, Luenell starred in her debut solo comedy special, Hey Luenell . Recurring roles on Californication and Lopez introduced her talents to new audiences, too. Things can only get bigger and brighter for the Original Bad Girl of Comedy thanks to starring roles in such forthcoming films as Jamie Foxx's All-Star Weekend and the comedy Ballbuster . Of course, fans know that Luenell's live shows are where she really lets loose.
Amazing, and watch out she's Here!!!
The projector screen was amazing.!!! Ms. Luenell mentioned my name, Edna, which was unexpected. I was able to see her and she didn't disappoint me at all. The dialogue for her audience was hilarious. She's still is a Bad Girl along with her stage format. She shook the house up to me. All new material. The outfit was a pretty decorum. I just love My Bad Girl, Ms. LUENELL.!!! The Material was not predictable. My Girl had me from start to end. Ms. Luenell career focus is she Got the right job. Undeniable, funny, excellent, sharp, and she will continue to react on time. Come back soon.!!!
It was Okay
I expected Luenell to be funnier. I think she was so overwhelmed by this being her first time at the historic Apollo Theatre that she was not regular self. I think her netflix special was way better. I still enjoyed the show but not like I thought I would have.
Great Show‼️ More like this at The Apollo. It was really special in the village of Harlem.
One of the greats

Luenell @ The Apollo
Luenell was hilarious!! Her material was on point and funny as hell! Thank you Luenell for making my night!! I may have to make a trip to Las Vegas soon, just to see your show there.
My Favorite Auntie With The Dirty Mouth ❤️
Best Comedy show ever, she’s my favorite Auntie with the dirty mouth❤️🌹love her. Can we do this every year ??
If you never saw her go see her she was awesome!!!
Funny As Hell
I enjoyed the show very much! Luenell is one of the few Black female comics still getting it done and I'm glad I got to see her do it LIVE Great show
Luenell: Success @ Apollo
Luenell performing her first live large-venue headliner gig, and doing it at the Apollo, was highly successful IMO. She handled the room well, and kept everyone interested for 80 of her 90-minute show; the first 45 was enlightened material, and the last 45 was living room-style humor…highly adult but very relatable.

This comedy tour follows the January 16 premiere of Williams's debut Netflix original stand-up comedy special, Katt Williams: Great America.
