Synopsis [ ]

Set during World War I , a riverboat captain named Frank takes a scientist and her brother on a mission into a jungle to find the Tree of Life which is believed to possess healing powers. All the while, the trio must fight against dangerous wild animals and a competing German expedition.

In the 16th century, Spanish conquistadors led by Don Aguirre travel to South America in search of the Tears of the Moon, a mythical tree whose petals can cure any illness, heal any injury, and lift any curse. After most of the men die in the jungle, the survivors are nursed back to health by a local tribe using the tree petals. When they refuse to reveal the location of the tree, the Spanish destroy the village. As punishment, the conquistadors are cursed to never die and never be able to leave sight of the river.

In 1916 London , Dr. Lily Houghton and her brother MacGregor detail Lily’s research on the Tears of the Moon to an association of Royal Society explorers , explaining that the petals could revitalize medicine and aid in the British war effort. The Houghtons request access to an arrowhead recovered by Dr. Albert Falls that Lily believes is key to locating the tree. When the association denies their request, believing the tree to be a myth and a female scientist unqualified to join their ranks, Lily steals the arrowhead instead. She narrowly avoids Prince Joachim, a German aristocrat who also wants the arrowhead and the tree.

In South America, Frank Wolff takes tourists on jungle river cruises, which he embellishes with fake dangers and corny jokes. When his boat engine is repossessed by businessman Nilo, he attempts to steal it back. Caught in the act by Lily, Frank pretends to be Nilo and arrogantly tells her that the Tears of the Moon is a myth and that she will not be able to handle the dangers of the jungle, but changes his tone when he notices that Lily is in possession of the arrowhead. Frank’s deception is revealed when the real Nilo shows up, but Lily hires Frank anyway after he underbids Nilo and bravely fights a wild jaguar.

Frank, Lily, and MacGregor depart on Frank’s boat, but are almost intercepted by Nilo attempting to get his engine back, mercenaries hired by Joachim to retrieve the arrowhead from Lily, and Joachim himself attacking in a German submarine. After they make their escape, it is revealed that the attacking jaguar was actually Frank’s pet Proxima, and Lily wonders if Frank can be trusted.

Joachim locates the cursed conquistadors, whose bodies have turned to stone due to them traveling too far from the river, and have been infested over time by tree roots, snakes, and insects. Joachim frees them by diverting the river, and offers to help them break the curse if they help him to retrieve the arrowhead.

As Frank, Lily and MacGregor continue down the river, they become closer. MacGregor reveals to Frank that he was nearly disowned by his family due to being gay, but Lily stood by him. Breaking into Frank’s cabin, Lily finds photos and drawings of new inventions such as the automobile, but also discovers drawings of the arrowhead and research on the Tears of the Moon. Lily accuses Frank of wanting the tree for himself, but he explains he gave up searching for it a long time ago and believed it couldn’t be found. They are attacked by a tribe of “ cannibals ” who demand the arrowhead, but this is revealed to be another deception by Frank working with a friendly tribe. Frank apologizes and says he was unable to call off the plan, but Lily rebuffs him.

Trader Sam, the tribe’s female leader, translates the writing on the arrowhead, revealing the location of the tree, and that it only blooms under a blood moon. The conquistadors attack and manage to take the arrowhead; Frank recovers it and gives it to Lily, but is stabbed through the chest with a sword and falls to his death. Lily runs away from the river so that the Spaniards cannot follow her.

The next morning, Lily discovers that Frank has miraculously survived. He reveals that his real name is Francisco, and he is actually one of the cursed conquistadors, unable to die or leave the river. The expedition to find the tree was originally a noble one to save Aguirre's sick daughter, Anna, but when the natives were attacked by the Spaniards, Frank switched sides to help the villagers. After years of fighting, Frank trapped Aguirre and the others in a cave away from the river. He then spent time searching for the tree to lift his own curse, but had been unable to find it without the arrowhead.

An injured MacGregor stays behind with Trader Sam while Lily and Frank make the final journey to the tree. MacGregor is captured by Joachim and forced to reveal the location of the tree. Frank, Lily, the Germans, and the Spaniards all converge on the tree, which begins to bloom under the blood moon. The moon passes quickly as they fight, and Lily is only able to recover one petal. MacGregor kills Joachim, and Frank crashes his boat to block the river, turning himself, Aguirre and the other Spaniards into stone. Lily uses the petal to revive Frank and break the curse, only afterwards discovering that due to a shift in the moonlight, there is one petal left for Lily’s research.

Returning to the United Kingdom, the society has offered full membership to Lily, which she rejects. She shows Frank all of London and gives him his first driving lesson in her automobile as well as delivering a corny joke herself, worthy of the latter's admiration.

In the pantheon of Disney movies based on Disney theme park rides, "Jungle Cruise" is pretty good—leagues better than dreck like "Haunted Mansion," though not quite as satisfying as the original "Pirates of the Caribbean." 

The most pleasant surprise is that director Jaume Collet-Serra (" The Shallows ") and a credited team of five, count 'em, writers have largely jettisoned the ride's mid-century American colonial snarkiness and casual racism (a tradition  only recently eliminated ). Setting the revamp squarely in the wheelhouse of blockbuster franchise-starters like " Raiders of the Lost Ark ," " Romancing the Stone " and "The Mummy," and pushing the fantastical elements to the point where the story barely seems to be taking place in our universe, it's a knowingly goofy romp, anchored to the banter between its leads, an English feminist and adventurer played by Emily Blunt and a riverboat captain/adventurer played by  Dwayne Johnson . 

Notably, however, even though the stars' costumes (and a waterfall sequence) evoke the classic "The African Queen"—John Huston's comic romance/action film starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn ; worth looking up if you've never watched it—the sexual chemistry between the two is nonexistent, save for a few fleeting moments, like when Frank picks up the heroine‘s hand-cranked silent film camera and captures affectionate images of her. At times the leads seem more like a brother and sister needling each other than a will they/won’t they bantering couple. Lack of sexual heat is often (strangely) a bug, or perhaps a feature, in films starring Johnson, the four-quadrant blockbuster king (though not on Johnson’s HBO drama "Ballers"). Blunt keeps putting out more than enough flinty looks of interest to sell a romance, but her leading man rarely reflects it back at her. Fortunately, the film's tight construction and prolific action scenes carry it, and Blunt and Johnson do the irresistible force/immovable object dynamic well enough, swapping energies as the story demands.

Blunt's character, Lily Houghton, is a well-pedigreed adventurer who gathers up maps belonging to her legendary father and travels to the Amazon circa 1916 to find the Tears of the Moon, petals from a "Tree of Life"-type of fauna that can heal all infirmities. She and her snooty, pampered brother MacGregor (Jack Whitehall) hire Frank "Skipper" Wolff (Johnson) to bring them to their destination. The only notable concession to the original theme park ride comes here: Wolff's day job is taking tourists upriver and making cheesy jokes in the spirit of "hosts" on Disney Jungle Cruise rides of yore. On the mission, Johnson immediately settles into a cranky but funny old sourpuss vibe, a la John Wayne or Harrison Ford , and inhabits it amiably enough, even though buoyant, almost childlike optimism comes more naturally to him than world-weary gruffness. 

The supporting cast is stacked with overqualified character players. Paul Giamatti plays a gold-toothed, sunburned, cartoonishly “Italian” harbor master who delights at keeping Frank in debt. Edgar Ramirez is creepy and scary as a conquistador whose curse from centuries ago has trapped him in the jungle.  Jesse Plemons plays the main baddie, Prince Joachim, who wants to filch the power of the petals for the Kaiser back in Germany (he's Belloq to the stars' Indy and Marion, trying to swipe the Ark). Unsurprisingly, given his track record, Plemons steals the film right out from under its leads.

Collet-Serra keeps the action moving along, pursuing a more classical style than is commonplace in recent live-action Disney product (by which I mean, the blocking and editing have a bit of elegance, and you always know where characters are in relation to each other). The editing errs on the side of briskness to such an extent that affecting, beautiful, or spectacular images never get to linger long enough to become iconic. The CGI is dicey, particularly on the larger jungle animals—was the production rushed, or were the artists just overworked?—and there are moments when everything seems so rubbery/plasticky that you seem to be watching the first film that was actually shot on location at Disney World.

But the staging and execution of the chases and fights compensates. Derivative of films that were themselves highly derivative, "Jungle Cruise" has the look and feel of a paycheck gig for all involved, but everyone seems to be having a great time, including the filmmakers.

In theaters and on Disney+ for a premium charge starting Friday, July 30th.

Setelah mengalami penundaan sekitar setahun akibat pandemi, film Disney yang berjudul Jungle Cruise akhirnya resmi dirilis pada 2021 ini. Film garapan Jaume Collet-Serra ini pun mengambil inspirasinya dari sebuah wahana permainan bernama sama yang berada di Disneyland . Film ini pun melibatkan Dwayne Johnson dan Emily Blunt sebagai pemain utamanya.

Sinopsis film Jungle Cruise mengisahkan ilmuwan bernama Dr. Lily Houghton yang ingin mencari Pohon Kehidupan di Amazon yang daunnya bisa menyembuhkan penyakit apapun. Dia pun dibantu oleh Frank Wolf, nahkoda kapal wisata di Amazon yang penuh tipu daya. Namun, petualangan mereka tersebut kerap mendapat gangguan dari pangeran asal Jerman yang juga mencari Pohon Kehidupan.

Film ini pun direncanakan rilis di sejumlah negara pada 30 Juli 2021 melalui bioskop serta akses premier Disney+. Namun, kemungkinan di Indonesia film ini akan ditunda karena adanya PPKM serta belum tersedianya akses premier Disney+. Meski begitu, belum lama ini KINCIR mendapatkan kesempatan spesial dari Disney Indonesia untuk menonton Jungle Cruise lebih awal secara virtual.

Film Petualangan Bercampur Mitologi yang Menyenangkan

Film ini dibuka dengan adegan flashback tatkala pasukan asal Spanyol melakukan ekspedisi di Amazon untuk mencari Pohon Kehidupan demi sebuah kepentingan. Sayangnya, ketika menemukan suku yang menjaga pohon tersebut, mereka melanggar peraturan sehingga dikutuk di hutan tersebut. Hasilnya, keberadaan Pohon Kehidupan pun hanya menjadi mitos belaka yang tak pernah terbukti keberadaannya.

Namun, hal itu enggak menghentikan Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) untuk mencari Pohon Kehidupan yang menurutnya akan membawa manfaat besar bagi dunia medis. Berbekal peta pemberian mendiang ayahnya, Lily pun pergi ke Amazon dengan ditemani adiknya, yaitu McGregor Houghton (Jack Whitehall). Sesampainya di sana, mereka mencari sosok skipper atau nahkoda kapal yang tepat untuk petualangan mereka.

Sosok Frank Wolf (Dwayne Johnson) pun akhirnya dipilih sebagai nahkoda mereka meski dia sebenarnya terkesan mencurigakan. Petualangan mereka untuk mencari tanaman itu pun sudah sulit sejak awal karena adanya Prince Joachim yang juga ingin ke Pohon Kehidupan demi kepentingan jahat. Masalah pun semakin runyam tatkala mitologi tentang Pohon Kehidupan dan ancaman yang menyelimutinya terbukti benar.

Buat kalian yang suka dengan film bergenre petualangan , kalian kemungkinan besar akan sangat enjoy sewaktu menyaksikan Jungle Cruise . Soalnya, konsep petualangan dari film ini dikemas dengan cara yang unik sekaligus menyenangkan. Kalau bisa dibilang, sensasi sewaktu menonton film Jungle Cruise mungkin cukup terasa seperti sedang menaiki wahana yang jadi inspirasi filmnya.

Film Jungle Cruise pun bisa dibilang merupakan gabungan dari waralaba Indiana Jones dan juga Pirates of the Caribbean. Pasalnya, film ini memiliki tema petualangan yang sangat kental layaknya Indiana Jones , tapi juga disisipi oleh tema mitologi atau legenda layaknya Pirates of the Caribbean.

Chemistry Pemain yang Sangat Mengibur

Salah satu poin paling positif dari film ini adalah chemistry dari para pemainnya, terutama para pemeran utama, seperti Emily Blunt, Dwayne Johnson, dan Jack Whitehall. Ketiganya bisa dibilang menjadi sosok aktor yang tepat untuk memerankan tiap-tiap karakternya. Selain itu, adegan interaksi dari ketiganya juga selalu mampu menghibur penonton yang tentunya membuktikan bahwa chemistry sangat kuat.

Faktor yang bikin interaksi mereka sangat menghibur adalah karena masing-masing karakternya memiliki kepribadian yang sangat bertolak belakang. Lily yang digambarkan sebagai ilmuwan eksentrik yang berjiwa petualang, Frank si nahkoda yang sinis dan penuh tipu daya, serta McGregor yang penuh rasa takut. Kepribadian itulah yang bikin interaksi mereka hampir selalu berujung kacau, tapi tetap menghibur.

Selain itu, pemasangan Emily Blunt dan Dwayne Johnson sebagai pemeran pria dan wanita utama dari film ini juga terbilang sangat tepat. Sebab, lewat film ini seolah terlahir pasangan duet komedi baru di dunia perfilman pada sosok Blunt dan Johnson. Rasanya akan sangat menarik untuk melihat duet mereka lagi di sejumlah proyek film lainnya.

Villain Utama yang Mencuri Perhatian

Film ini sebenarnya memiliki beberapa antagonis atau villain yang kerap mengacaukan rencana para tokoh utama. Namun, villain yang paling mencuri perhatian adalah sosok Prince Joachim yang diperankan oleh aktor Jesse Plemons. Dia pun digambarkan sebagai pemimpin tentara Jerman yang penuh ambisi dan ingin menggunakan daun dari Pohon Kehidupan untuk hal yang jahat.

Pada awal filmnya, Prince Joachim terkesan seperti penjahat yang bertindak dengan tenang dan penuh perencanaan. Namun, seiring filmnya berjalan, dia justru terkesan seperti villain “gila” yang rela melakukan apapun demi mencapai tujuannya. Plemons pun terbilang sukses menggambarkan dua sisi dari Prince Joachim dengan sangat apik dan tentunya tetap menghibur.

Komedi yang Bikin Adegan Jadi Kurang Menegangkan

Seperti yang sudah dibahas di sejumlah poin sebelumnya, Jungle Cruise lekat dengan predikat sebagai film yang menghibur dan menyenangkan. Hal ini pun tak terlalu mengherankan, karena di hampir selalu ada unsur komedi di setiap adegannya, termasuk momen klimaks sekalipun. Menurut KINCIR hal inilah yang menjadi salah satu poin negatif yang cukup terasa dari Jungle Cruise .

Soalnya, banyaknya unsur komedi yang dihadirkan di hampir setiap adegannya tersebut membuat momen klimaks menjadi kehilangan nuansa ketegangannya. Salah satunya adalah momen yang dialami oleh Prince Joachim menjelang filmnya berakhir yang seharusnya terkesan mengenaskan. Namun, karena dialog dari salah satu tokohnya, adegan tersebut justru lebih terkesan lucu ketimbang mengenaskan.

Hal ini tentunya cukup disayangkan dengan konsep yang diusung oleh Jungle Cruise . Pasalnya, dengan tema mitologi yang turut diangkat, sebenarnya film ini juga bisa memiliki nuansa yang menegangkan atau bahkan terkesan horor pada beberapa adegan tertentu. Namun, lagi-lagi perlu diingat bahwa film ini diproduksi oleh Disney yang dikenal “ramah anak” dan memang diperuntukkan buat penonton 13 tahun ke atas.

Secara garis besar, Jungle Cruise akan cocok buat kalian yang suka film petualangan atau butuh tontonan yang sangat ringan dan penuh komedi. Belum diketahui secara pasti kapan film ini akan rilis secara legal di Indonesia. Namun, kemungkinan besar film Disney ini akan segera dirilis ketika sejumlah bioskop Tanah Air kembali dibuka. Jadi, kita doakan saja hal itu segera terwujud, ya!

Jungle Cruise premiere date, cast, synopsis, trailer and more

It’s summertime, which means we’re all craving rollicking adventures and action films. F9 brought audiences back into the fold with the Fast & Furious crew and to the theaters to see the movie . We’re not out of the woods of this pandemic, but with more people getting vaccinated, a return to the cinema is on moviegoers’ minds. Likely, Disney’s Jungle Cruise will be among the films that help revive the box office like F9 and A Quiet Place 2 are doing and Black Widow is set to do as a Marvel offering.

Disney movies are big draws for theaters and while this action adventure is PG-13, it’ll be in the same rating vein as the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. It’s still a Disney film after all. One also based on a theme park ride.

With an air akin to the cult classic The Mummy except set in the Amazon instead of Egypt, Jungle Cruise leans into the chemistry Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt have as Frank Wolff and Dr. Lily Houghton. Their comedic timing and camaraderie are likely to be a strength of the movie along with its beauty as audiences are led into the rain forest in search of a tree legend says can heal anyone and anything.

Jungle Cruise premieres in theaters Friday, July 30, 2021. For viewers looking to watch the movie at home, the film will be available to stream on Disney+ with Premier Access. The current rate for Premier Access on the platform is $29.99.

Dwayne Johnson stars as Frank Wolff, the owner of the La Quila who’s been looking for the legendary tree with healing properties longer than anyone. He’s given up on its existence.

Emily Blunt as Dr. Lily Houghton, a researcher who wants to use the trees properties to help people. She’ll have to find it first, but she’s determined to do so with Frank’s help even if he thinks it’s a fool’s errand.

Sinopsis Jungle Cruise

Film ini mengisahkan kapten kapal yang berkharisma bernama Frank (Dwayne Johnson) yang bertemu dengan Lily (Emily Blunt), seorang penjelajah yang sedang berpetualang menghadapi misi untuk menemukan kebenaran mengenai pohon ajaib yang memiliki kekuatan penyembuh.

Frank awalnya tidak percaya dengan rumor pohon ajab tersebut. Kemudian, dia menemukan beberapa fakta tentang keajaiban tersebut. Akhirnya keduanya berpetualang bersama menghadapi tantangan-tantangan yang akan menghadangnya.

Mereka harus segera menemukan pohon tersebut, karena jika jatuh ke tangan yang salah, pohon tersebut akan dimanfaatkan unutk membangkitkan kekuatan jahat.

Terinspirasi dari wahana Disneyland

Jungle Cruise sejatinya terinspirasi dari wahana dengan nama sama yang berada di taman hiburan Disneyland. Dalam wahana tersebut, pengunjung akan menjelajahi sungai di Afrika, Amerika, serta Asia ditemani oleh nahkoda yang sekaligus seorang pemandu yang sering memberikan lelucon.

Alur cerita dari wahana ini berlangsung pada awal 1930-an. Mengisahkan kisah penjajahan Inggris dan juga menggambarkan suku-suku adat yang disebut 'orang bengis'.

Upaya penghapusan diskriminasi suku Amazon

Menjelang rilisnya film ini, taman hiburan Disneyland merevisi konsep taman bermain tersebut yang sudah bertahun-tahun dikritik.

Penyebabnya adalah selama bertahun-tahun, stereotipe terhadap warga pribumi hutan Amazon begitu meresahkan karena tidak mengakui keragaman kebudayaan manusia. Oleh karena itu, film ini bisa menjadi salah satu upaya untuk menghapus diskriminasi terhadap suku-suku asli tersebut.

Jungle Cruise akan rilis pada 30 Juli 2021 di Amerika Serikat. Sementara di Indonesia dirilis mulai 28 Juli 2021. Penantian yang cukup lama ini semakin menambah keseruan saat penonton film yang berkisah tentang petualangan di sungai Amazon.

Lily Houghton es una exploradora con una misión de investigación: encontrar un árbol con poderes curativos en la Amazonia que cuenta una leyenda. Para ello necesita la punta de una flecha específica para desentrañar este misterio. Por otro lado se encuentra Frank, un carismático capitán de un bote fluvial que se dedica a hacer tours por el Amazonas con toda clase de peligros orquestados.

Lily tiene que buscar un medio de transporte para llegar a Lágrimas de Cristal, el lugar donde se encontraría el árbol con poderes curativos. Lily lo encuentra en Frank, quien ve en la gran cantidad de dinero de ella el motivo por el que ayudarla. Los dos se embarcarán en una aventura con varios misterios, peligros y con un precio por viaje que no hace más que subir.

Al igual que sucedió con la saga de 'Piratas del Caribe', Disney prepara este nuevo proyecto utilizando como fuente de inspiración una de las atracciones presentes en su parque temático: 'Jungle Cruise'. Se trata de un viaje que permite a los visitantes del parque atravesar exóticos lugares africanos a través del río Nilo y Congo con el objetivo de descubrir sus llamativas y salvajes criaturas. 'Jungle Cruise' ofrece una experiencia única en la que animales de todo tipo como hipopótamos, rinocerontes, serpientes o pirañas permiten ser observados a escasa distancia.

Jungle Cruise: acción y aventuras para disfrutar en familia

Acción, aventuras, adrenalina y un toque de humor. Con Jungle Cruise Disney consigue retomar el cine de aventuras que tanto añorábamos aquellos que tanto disfrutamos con películas como Indiana Jones , Piratas del Caribe , Jumanji o La momia . Títulos como los citados conseguían reunir acción y aventuras añadiendo, además, algunos tintes de humor y algún componente histórico más allá de la fantasía. Pero Jungle Cruise va más allá. Además de mostrarnos acción y aventuras a raudales, se adapta a los nuevos tiempos escapando de clichés y mostrándonos auténticas heroínas que no necesitan a ningún hombre para hacerse respetar.

Jungle Cruise: Crítica y sinopsis

Dirigida por Jaume Collet-Serra y protagonizada por Emily Blunt y Dwayne Johnson, la película, ambientada a principios del siglo XX, cuenta la historia de Frank (Dwayne Johnson), capitán de una pintoresca embarcación con la que recorre la selva amazónica, a quien el destino cruza con Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt), una científica obsesionada con encontrar un árbol místico con poderes curativos. Juntos, iniciarán un viaje apasionante y lleno de sorpresas en que les acompañará McGregor Houghton (JackWhitehall), el histriónico hermano de la protagonista.

Absolutamente recomendable, Jungle Cruise hará las delicias tanto de los adultos como de los niños aunque la película no es recomendada para menores de 12 años . El filme está basado en una atracción del parque temático de Disney en el que un pequeño barco lleva a un grupo de viajeros a través de una jungla llena de peligros. Repleta de acción desde el principio, la película es un espectáculo visual que hará soñar a más de uno con el cine de aventuras de hace unas décadas. Además, el duo protagonista tiene química y se nota. Como broche final, la música de James Newton-Howard que acompaña la cinta nos recuerda a esas bandas sonoras instrumentales de los clásicos de aventuras. En definitiva, estamos ante una hermosa y divertida película repleta de aventuras y viajes imposibles para disfrutar en familia o con amigos. Jungle Cruise deja un buen sabor de boca al pasajero.

Mujeres valientes que luchan por cumplir sus sueños.

Parece que las mujeres comienzan a hacerse un hueco en las grandes producciones. Pero no se equivoquen, no estamos ante pobres damiselas en apuros que han de ser rescatadas por el héroe de turno. Jungle Cruise nos presenta a una heroína que lucha por cumplir sus sueños y que no necesita a nadie para lanzarse en busca de sus objetivos. Valiente, intrépida e inteligente, Lily (Emily Blunt) encuentra la manera de hacerse valer en un mundo de hombres y deja atrás el espíritu de otras películas de aventuras donde las mujeres simplemente acompañaban al protagonista o necesitaban ser rescatadas por él, convirtiéndose así en un mero premio.

Jungle Cruise: una película con mensaje

Que el hombre siempre ha ansiado conseguir el elixir perfecto capaz de curar cualquier enfermedad y evitar la muerte no es ninguna novedad. Es extensa la lista de películas y novelas que han tratado de acercarnos a este tema. Podemos encontrar un ejemplo en Indiana Jones y la última cruzada (1989), la película protagonizada por Harrison Ford en la que se buscaba con empeño el Santo Grial, la copa usada por Jesucristo en la Última Cena, capaz de otorgar la vida eterna, según el argumento de la película, a quien bebiera de él.
