The price of a private chef service depends essentially on the number of people. On average, for bookings of 2 people, the price of a Private Chef in Katowice is 438 PLN per person. Between 3 and 6 people, the average price is 290 PLN per person. Between 7 and 12 people, the average price is 233 PLN. For 13 or more people the average price is 240 PLN. It is important to point out that, depending on the destination, Private Chef reservations may be more or less seasonal and, therefore, the price may fluctuate. There is no maximum number of people, although a Private Chef service is usually carried out in a more intimate level along with friends or family, and usually in homes where space is limited. Even though there is no maximum number of people, generally the groups do not exceed 15 people.

A Private Chef always prepares the menu at the client's home, as it is an inherent part of the experience. However, depending on the complexity of the menu, the chef may prepare a mise en place before going to the client's home, as some dishes take several hours to prepare and it would be impossible to execute all the steps at the client's home.

Absolutely! Usually, there are always several food lovers among the diners who take the opportunity to share some time with the chef, learn some tricks in the kitchen and the step-by-step of each of the dishes on the menu. For those diners who really want to get hands on, they can of course join the chef and cook!

Every Private Chef gives the utmost importance to the freshness of the ingredients used in their menus. The main difference between a restaurant and a private chef is in the personalized treatment of each diner. The chef personalizes the menu, and based on that menu, makes the necessary purchases to develop the menu chosen by the customers. Therefore, the freshness of the ingredients is one of the key elements of a Private Chef service.

Drinks are not included by default. However, you can reach an agreement with the chef in order to add drinks as an "extra" to the menu proposal.

Each guest can freely decide the tip he/she wishes to give to the chef, as it is up to their discretion. On average, based on the tips given by 489 guests in Katowice, guests usually tip 14,72% of the total amount to their Private Chef.

15 Best Things to Do in Katowice (Poland)

As a mining city, Katowice’s sudden growth in the 19th century was fuelled by its rich coal seams. The plush tenement houses of the Śródmieście district were all funded by this new wealth. But there are also innovative worker settlements like Nikiszowiec and Giszowiec, where miners and their families had a high quality of life, and which are still complete today. Meanwhile one former colliery has been remodelled as the Silesian Museum, with galleries built into old mining tunnels.

The political history of Katowice and the Upper Silesia region is incredibly complex, and entails uprisings, a plebiscite and an autonomous state within Poland. Luckily there are museums and monuments to fill in the gaps, while Katowice is blessed with a raft of architectural wonders, from a hulking Neoclassical cathedral to Spodek, a UFO-like arena from the 1970s.

Let’s explore the best things to do in Katowice :

1. Silesian Museum

Silesian Museum, Katowice

From a distance the first thing that will hove into view as you approach the Silesian Museum is the giant headframe that had stood idle after the Katowice colliery around it closed in 1999 after almost 180 years.

Now that tower has an observation platform open in summer.

The headframe isn’t the only part of the mine that has been converted, as four levels of subterranean tunnels below have been turned into galleries for art, photography, ethnography and archaeology and much more.

The idea behind moving all of the exhibitions underground is to avoid interfering with Silesia’s post-industrial landscape, and daylight filters into the galleries from glass cubes at the surface.

At a museum as out-of-the-ordinary as this it hardly matters what’s on show, but the exhibition of Polish art from 1800-1945 features eminent names like Jan Matejko, Piotr Michałowski and Józef Chełmoński.

2. Nikiszowiec

Nikiszowiec, Katowice

A few minutes on foot or a brief bus-ride from the centre of Katowice is a superb piece of Polish national heritage; an intact city district for 8,000 people built for miners at the Giesche colliery.

Nikiszowiec was in fact a separate, self-contained city, from its completion in 1918 until it was absorbed by Katowice in 1951. The settlement had interconnected houses, each containing 12 apartments and often linked by arcades on the ground floor.

There were 1,000 apartments in all, in beautiful brick buildings that had shops, a police station, bakeries, a swimming pool, a hotel, a school and church close at hand.

A popular shooting location for movies, the settlement looks almost as it did a century ago and tucked into the arcades are a few specialty shops and cafes.

3. Museum of the History of Katowice

Museum Of The History Of Katowice

The headquarters for this museum, and most of its departments, are in a tenement house from 1908 on Ulica Szafranka.

If you wanted to pick one setting to sum up Katowice, this would be perfect, as in this period the city was growing at a dizzying rate.

The permanent exhibition shows you around two apartments; one for a rich industrialist family, and another for a moderately well-off member of the new bourgeoisie.

Both are complete with period furniture, personal items, appliances and decorated according to the fashion of the day.

Another exhibition guides you along a timeline of Katowice from its humble origins as a rural settlement in the 1200s to the factories of the 20th century.

Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, one of Poland’s most revered artists is represented in the art collection, which has the set of his pastel drawings in a single museum.

4. Kościuszko Park

Kosciuszko Park, Katowice

Named after one of Poland’s national heroes, Kościuszko Park is the handiest green space if you’re in the centre of Katowice, swelling from six hectares when it was inaugurated in 1888 to more than 72 today.

Wreathed by an English landscape park made up of dozens of different tree species are formal flowerbeds, an avenue of roses and florid pergolas.

But the park also some compelling wartime stories to tell; the parachute training tower in the park’s southern reaches is 40 metres high and dates back to before the Second World War.

It was on top of this metal structure that a group of boy scouts staged a plucky attempt to defend the city against the Wehrmacht in on 4 September 1939. If you’re in town in winter there’s a toboggan run and ski slope to try out.

5. Silesian Insurgents’ Monument

Silesian Insurgents' Monument

One sight to give you a sense of place is this gigantic monument to the people who took part in the three Silesian Uprisings in 1919, 1920 and 1921. The cause was to force the Upper Silesia to join the new Polish state that had been created after the Treaty of Versailles.

Poles made up 60% of the population of Upper Silesia and rebelled three times, facing off against German armed forces while campaigning for plebiscite, which took place in 1921. The monument was unveiled in 1967, stands at a maximum of 41 metres, has 350 individual parts and weighs a total of 61 tons.

Each wing represents one of the uprisings, while details of the individual battles are etched on the slopes underneath.

6. Cathedral of Christ the King

Cathedral of Christ the King, Katowice

Construction of this colossal archcathedral, the largest in Poland, began in 1927 and was interrupted by the Second World War.

It would finally be completed in 1955, and has powerful Neoclassical architecture epitomised by a 40-metre-high dome and an awe-inspiring portico.

Despite the classical lines it’s a thoroughly modern building, with a structure made from reinforced concrete and then clad with dolomite extracted from the Imielin quarries close by.

The stained glass was painted by Stanisław Pękalski, while all of the fittings were produced by one man, Mieczysław Król, in 1973. The three Silesian Bishops are buried in the crypt, and on the left side of the nave you’ll find an altar made of coal to St Barbara, patron saint of miners, commemorating those who have died in Silesia’s mines.

7. Ulica Mariacka (St Mary’s Street)

Ulica Mariacka, Katowice

In the central Śródmieście district, the pedestrianised Ulica Mariacka is Katowice’s main nightlife artery, leading to the bold tower of St Mary’s Church, which we’ll explore next.

The street was only pedestrianised in 2008, and in 2011 a row of 30 cherry tree saplings were planted on the way, now sprinkling some colour in spring.

Packed into a few hundred metres are almost 20 taverns, and many more restaurants, bistros and nightclubs.

When the cars were banned in 2009 the city also invested in sprucing up the facades along the route, running the gamut from Neo-Gothic by the church on the east end to the west.

See what’s on the calendar before you come, because the there’s usually something going on along the street, whether it’s a wine and cheese fair or a concert.

8. St Mary’s Church

St Mary's Church, Katowice

With mass immigration to Upper Silesia and the city burgeoning in the middle of the 19th century, all these new residents needed a place of worship.

The answer was St Mary’s Church, which was erected in the 1860s.

And even though it’s a relatively new construction, this church has a lot of value as many of the most respected artists of the day worked on its fittings and decor.

The mesmerising stained glass windows were painted by Adam Bunsch, who learned his craft at the centre of excellence in Kraków, while on both sides of the nave, the “Marian Cycle” paintings are the work of Józef Unierzyski, student (and son-in-law) of the beloved Jan Matejka.

For something older, there’s a Late Gothic altar in the “Sacra Conversazione” chapel in the transept.

9. Architecture

Monopol Hotel, Katowice

Having only gained city status in 1865, Katowice isn’t a Medieval or Renaissance idyll like Kraków or Lublin; but that doesn’t mean that the city’s architecture doesn’t have its own power.

As the Śródmieście, city centre, was built in one go in the 19th century it was often compared to Paris for its many palatial tenement buildings, some with Art Nouveau design.

A few examples can be found on Ulica Mickiewicza, especially the corner building at no. 22, and the breathtaking Monopol Hotel at Ulika Dworcowa 5, from 1902. While the Market Square is a smorgasbord of 19th and 20th-century architecture with Modernist, Neoclassical, Socialist Realist and contemporary buildings.

Spodek, Katowice

After Stalin died, architecture in Poland was able to move on from Socialist Realism to more exciting frontiers.

And that is the context for this outlandish building, named “Saucer” in Polish.

Spodek was started in 1964 and work continued up to 1971. From then until just 2014 Spodek was the largest indoor arena in Poland, with a capacity of 11,500. And if you’re scratching your head wondering how this megastructure can support its own weight, it uses a concept known as tensegrity, a portmanteau of tensional integrity coined by the great Buckminster Fuller.

The man who put it into practise here was the engineer Wacław Zalewski.

More than 45 years later Spodek has outlasted Zalewski’s other landmark project, SuperSam in Warsaw, and was renovated in 2009.

11. Valley of Three Ponds

Valley of Three Ponds, Katowice

In the south of Katowice is a wooded park area spreading over 86 hectares, nine of which are taken up by water.

Despite the name there are 11 bodies of water in the park.

The largest ponds are set aside for recreation, mostly for fishing, but there’s also one pond with a marina for watersports and another with a beach that is a hit with families on hot days On land you can cycle or hike through lush deciduous forest, and if you don’t have your own set of wheels you can rent a bike via Katowice’s City by Bike service.

12. Giszowiec

Giszowiec

If Nikiszowiec whetted your appetite for early-20th-century urban design, there’s more a few kilometres southeast of the city centre at another miners’ settlement.

Giszowiec is based on Ebenezer Howard’s concept of a Garden City and was built in just three years, providing greenery for the 600 families that moved in.

Originally occupied by workers at the Giesche Mine, Giszowiec’s houses are on four main streets converging at a central lime-shaded square.

The settlement soon had its own amenities like department stores, a school and a swimming pool, while a narrow gauge railway linked it with the neighbouring district of Janów.

13. Silesian Parliament

Silesian Parliament

A Polish National Historic Monument, this government building was the largest edifice in Poland until the Palace of Science and Culture went up in Warsaw in 1955. With a Neoclassical design, the Silesian Parliament was completed in 1929 to be the seat of power of the autonomous Silesian Voivodeship.

This was created in 1921 following an uprising by its Polish residents and plebiscite after the First World War.

The immense building still holds government offices and has one of only four paternosters (open single-person elevators) remaining in Poland.

14. Silesian Philharmonic

Silesian Philharmonic

Those with a taste for culture may already know that Katowice has one of Poland’s most illustrious orchestras.

The Silesian Philharmonic was founded at the end of the Second World War and played its first concert as early as 26 May 1945. Many distinguished soloists have performed with the orchestra, including Witold Małcużyński and Adam Taubitz.

The concert hall where the orchestra, mixed choir and chamber orchestra performs is a permanent part of Katowice’s heritage and came through a renovation, furnishing it with a new glass roof in 2013. Have a look at the programme when you’re in town, and if you come with children don’t rule out a visit as along with a cycle of symphonies by the likes of Dvořák, Brahms and Mozart there are family and child-oriented performances, especially around school holidays.

15. Guitar History Museum

Muzeum Historii Gitary

An intrepid spirit will pay off at this private museum, which is all about plucked string instruments.

The attraction comes from a city-wide scheme in which culturally interesting homes can be opened up to visitors in exchange for lower rents.

The museum is open during the afternoon Tuesday to Sunday, and has 60 exhibits, all of which are in working order.

You’ll be able to track the development of the guitar to the instrument we know today, checking out its ancestors and relatives such as lutes and torbans.

None are older than the 20th century, but there’s a good reason for that, because the guide invites you to play the instruments as he shares his knowledge about them

Katowice Airport - All Information on Katowice Airport (KTW)

Situated in Pyrzowice, about 30 km/19 miles north of the city of Katowice, Katowice Airport is the fourth-busiest airport in Poland. The international airport handled 4.8 million passengers in 2018, a 24.3% increase on the previous year. In 2018, Katowice Airport saw some 40,000 aircraft movements, an 18% increase on 2017.

Katowice Airport has its origins in WWII, when the German Luftwaffe built an airfield in Pyrzowice's surrounding countryside in 1940. Between 1945 to 1951 the airport served as a base for Red Army soldiers. Later the Soviet Government handed over the airfield to the Polish Army. Passenger traffic didn't start until October 1966, when the first LOT Polish Airlines aeroplane left for Warsaw.

The first passenger terminal opened at the end of 1969, when Katowice Airport also received taxiways and an apron. Since 2000, the airport has seen numerous upgrades, including an extension of the aprons and taxiways and runway strip.

Today the airport is connected to the rest of Poland via the S1 expressway, which opened in November 2016. It links Pyrzowice's airport to the Podwarpie interchange.

There are three terminal buildings today, A, B and C. Terminals A and B handle Departures, while C terminal is dedicated to Arrivals only.

Katowice travel guide

Katowice tourism | katowice guide, you're going to love katowice.

One of the most vibrant cities in Poland, Katowice is the gateway to Silesia and has no shortage of enticing attractions.

travel chef katowice

If you are interested in industry, the museums of Katowice will fascinate, but with great shopping malls, fine food, and superb galleries as well, there's plenty to keep everyone occupied.

Top 5 Reasons to Visit Katowice

1. an engaging industrial heritage.

Katowice has been an industrial center for centuries. Find out about its history at attractions like the Nikiszowiec miners' estate and the Museum of Katowice History.

2. Art and Architecture Spanning Centuries

You can get your fill of artistic wonders at the Silesian Museum (hosting Polish masters like Stanisław Wyspiański) or the Archdiocesan Museum, which focuses on sacred artworks.

3. Beautiful Parks and Gardens

Relax in between museums at gorgeous spots like Kosciuszko Park and the Silesian Zoological Garden, which hosts 2,500 animals and a colony of dinosaur models as well.

4. Explore the Silesian Countryside

With a rental car, you can easily reach historical sights like Jasna Góra (home to a famous Black Madonna statue) or formidable castles like Zamek Ogrodzieniec.

5. Music Events for Everyone

Katowice hosts popular events like the Jazz and Beyond Festival and Metalmania, while the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra regularly performs in town.

What to do in Katowice

1. everyday life, exhibited brilliantly.

Located in the suburb of Nikiszowiec, around 3 miles from the city center, this is a great example of how medium sized cities should showcase their history. For one thing, the setting is intriguing - a 1910s planned industrial suburb. But the collections inside are the real star. Exhibits give a vivid idea of what everyday life was like in Katowice from the 1200s to today, and there are special collections dedicated to famous locals like the artist Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz.

2. Spellbinding Silesian Stories

More centrally located, just north of Rynek (the main square), the Silesian Museum has some amazing stories to tell. For instance, it houses 35,000 photographs, some of which are over 130 years old and capture key moments like the Polish resistance against Nazism. Other galleries provide a panorama of Polish painting, while there's an absorbing section on the history of Silesian industry which, after all, is what made the area so sought after by kings, emperors, and fuhrers, for so long.

3. A Saucer-Full Of Sporting And Cultural Delights

Built in 1971, Spodek is one of the most recognizable sporting and musical arenas in Europe. Shaped like an upturned flying saucer (well, it was the 1970s), it has a capacity of 11,500 people, and hosts everything from ice hockey fixtures to heavy metal artists like Metallica, who played a famous gig there in 1987. In fact, there's a good chance that something worth seeing will be on during anyone's stay in Katowice, whether you're into electronic gaming competitions, ice skating (there's a public rink in the complex), basketball, or volleyball.

4. Living History, And Historical Refreshments

The name may sound a little uninspiring, but the content of this huge outdoor museum is anything but. Located in the Provincial Park of Culture and Recreation around 2 miles north of the center, it's basically a lovingly reconstructed Silesian village, albeit one with structures dating from the 1100s to the 19th century. With 100 buildings in all, and staff on site to explain what everything means (usually in English), the museum even has a working karczma (tavern) to round off the trip with a beer. Not many museums can match that kind of service.

5. A Dramatic Center For The Polish Stage

Silesia's largest theater dominates Rynek Square, and also plays an oversized role in the city's cultural life. Housed in an elegant modernist structure, it was actually built by a German team (and the first performance was Schiller's "William Tell"). But the theater's golden age of the 50s and 60s saw it become a mainstay of the Polish stage, and most of the country's greatest actors trod the boards there at some point. These days, performances come thick and fast, as Shakespeare rubs shoulders with Polish newcomers. Even if the dialogue washes over you, it's an enchanting place to catch some drama.

Katowice is a large city in the Silesian Voivodeship ( województwo śląskie ) in the south of Poland. In 2021 it had a population of 315,000; it's the central city of Metropolis GZM (population 2.3 million) which in turn is part of Upper Silesian-Moravian metropolitan area sprawling across the Czech border. It's not scenic, but has a rich industrial heritage.

Understand [ edit ]

travel chef katowice

A series of medieval villages grew up in the forest clearings of Silesia, working at agriculture and small-scale metal-bashing; Katowice is first documented among these in 1598. They urbanised from the 18th century when coal mines plumbed deeper underground, and better processes were invented for extracting metals such as zinc and for turning iron into steel. Katowice outgrew its neighbours and in 1873 it became the county town. Poland in those centuries was carved up by other nations and Katowice was part of Prussia, later of Germany. It was well-connected by rail to other cities and attracted service industries such as banking. After the First World War the border was re-drawn, based on a plebiscite; Katowice voted to remain German but the district all around it voted to join Poland and it had to follow suit, becoming the regional capital.

The Second World War and Nazi occupation brought a high human cost but only selective damage to city buildings - the synagogue was one obvious target but city industry was wanted for the war effort. Then in 1945 the Red Army "liberated" Katowice by destroying much of it, and post-war communist rulers carried on in that vein. Rynek the central market square was soon ringed by the slabby 1960-70s architecture now mocked as "Early Gierek". Later in the 20th century traditional smokestack industry collapsed, labour unrest grew, and the miners of Katowice were as instrumental in the downfall of "the People's Republic" as the ship-builders of Gdańsk.

The city, region and entire nation of Poland had to re-invent themselves after 1989, developing a western free-market economy with a greater role for service sector, education and IT. Other Polish cities have prettified themselves into romantic budget-flight weekend destinations - that was never realistic for Katowice. It does however have a wealth of heritage, good visitor amenities, and transport links around Silesia and beyond.

Onward transport:

  • Airport Bus takes 50 min to the main railway and bus stations, every 30 min daytime and hourly through the night.
  • Matuszek Bus runs direct to Kraków .
  • Buses also run direct to Bytom (No 85, 53), Mierzęcice (No 17) and Sosnowiec .

Kraków ( KRK  IATA ) is a major tourist destination so its John-Paul II Airport has excellent connections across Europe. Flixbuses from Warsaw and Gdańsk call here every few hours on their way to Katowice, but it's usually more convenient to take the frequent bus or train into Kraków city centre and change.

By train [ edit ]

Trains from Warsaw run hourly and take just under 3 hours via Sosnowiec . They may start from Gdynia or Gdańsk.

From Kraków they run hourly and take an hour via Myslowice.

From Berlin Lichtenburg, two trains a day take 6 hr 30 min via Rzepin, Zielona Gora , Glogow, Lublin , Legnica , Wrocław , Opole , Gliwice and Zabrze , and continue to Kraków. From Wrocław the service is every hour or so, taking two hours and continuing to Kraków, Tarnów , Rzeszów , Łańcut and Przemyśl on the Ukraine border.

From the Czech Republic, trains run from Ostrava every hour or two, taking two hours via Bohumin, Wodzislaw Slaski, Rybnik and Tychy. These may start from Prague, Vienna or Budapest.

On cross-border routes, look for split-ticket deals. Reservations are compulsory on all trains from Germany in July and August.

Outlying stations are Zaleze 3 km west, Brynów 5 km southwest and Ligota another 4 km south, and Zawodzie 3 km east.

By bus [ edit ]

From Warsaw, Flixbus runs five times a day, taking 4-5 hours via Katowice Airport.

From Gdańsk they run eight times, taking 8-9 hours via Toruń , Włocławek, Łódź and the airport.

From Berlin they run every hour or two, taking 8 hours via Berlin Airport, Wrocław and Opole .

From Prague they run eight times, taking 6 hr 30 min via Brno , Olomouc and Ostrava . From Vienna takes 6 hours by the same route.

From Kraków is a frequent service. Flixbus, Unibus and Bus-Inter all run hourly, taking 65 min, for a fare in 2024 of 15 zł. They use large coaches with luggage trunks; consider booking, as they sell out at busy times.

By road [ edit ]

Get around [ edit ].

On foot [ edit ]

Many sights are within a km or two of Rynek or the main railway station. The pavements are broad and level.

By bus or tram [ edit ]

ZTM Metropolia run almost all buses and trams across the 40-some cities of Upper Silesian Metropolis, which straddles the Czech border. They have a unified ticket system.

( PKM Jaworzno [dead link] are an exception. They run blue and yellow buses on some 20 routes, including lines A, E and J from Aleja Korfantego. They have a completely different fare system; but you're unlikely to use them and they're not described further here.)

In 2024 tickets valid for 20 mins are 4.60 zł, 40 mins 5.60 zł, 90 minutes or for the full route 6.60 zł, and a 90 minute group ticket for up to 5 people is 13 zł. A one-day pass valid until midnight is 12 zł. Concessionary fares are 50% of the relevant normal fare. All these tickets are valid for unlimited transfers within the allotted time. You can also buy e-packages of 20, 40 or 80 tickets (which roughly halve the unit journey price but don't allow transfers), and 30-, 90- and 180-day e-passes.

You can buy tickets from kiosks, newsagents, shops, machines at the main stops, or at POP passenger service points: these are within Katowice railway station, at Pocztowa 10 near Rynek, and at the ZTM offices on Barbary 21a. The only ticket you can buy on boarding is the 90 minute 6.60 zł (or concessionary 3.30 zł) ticket from bus drivers, who don't give change (they don't yet have contactless payment), and are sometimes out of tickets.

You must validate your ticket immediately on boarding. Inspectors prowl, and an unvalidated ticket is as bad as no ticket at all. For outlying sights buy your return ticket along with your outbound in case you find no convenient ticket point or the machine is broken, and with trams you don't have the option of paying the driver.

By taxi [ edit ]

There are taxi ranks at the airport, north entrance of the railway station at 3 Maja, the bus station, main hotels and city transport nodes. Ask the price beforehand or the taxi driver will use his wildest imagination. Using an app such as Uber ensures an agreed price.

Szymon Bracik chef

He took his love for cooking from home. His first master and culinary inspiration was his dad, who taught him how to live in harmony with nature and the rhythm of the seasons, how to celebrate life – by cooking. This made his sense of taste develop exceptionally well and quickly. Cooking has become a way of life for Simon. He took his first steps in gastronomy as a student filled with dreams of creating flavors that he could share and give people the joy of eating.

In the pursuit of a goal, humility is important. Before you raise your head you need several years of learning and patient observation. I developed my culinary passion further in Silesia as a deputy chef in one of the popular restaurants in Katowice, where I combined diversity with simplicity of form and unconventional composition of flavors. I settled down in Katowice – I was deputy chef in an Italian restaurant, which developed my concept of Mediterranean cuisine, simple but based on delicious products and the joy that is hidden in the sun of ripening vegetables. This is how I arrived at the restaurant in Pszczyna – first as sous chef, then as chef, where I combined the cuisine filled with passion and fascination – it was a breakthrough moment for me. I managed to run the restaurant in such a way that after several years of hard work we received an award and the title of the Best Restaurant in Poland. Now, in Silesian Prohibition I feel that I have found my place, that I can combine my passion with my work and serve the best for you! – Simon says.

In love with Nikisz

In the raw design of apartment blocks in the historic Nikiszowiec, the history of workers’ Silesia is recorded. Connoisseurs of the history of the 1920s hear a lot of stories about the life of society stigmatized by work in the shafts of steel mills and mines. The fathers, in the sweat of their foreheads, went underground to mine for black gold, their wives at that time were bringing order to the characters of their ancestors, taking care of the home fire of a truly Silesian family.

What’s Nikish’s delight? First of all, his simplicity. The brick walls of the family houses, where large windows are wrapped in red flowers, create a unique atmosphere encouraging to stroll. It is worthwhile to take a look at the green courtyards, which used to house pigsties, were used as feed stores or as steamers, and the green areas became a field for underage rascals. Nikisz boasts a large market square, a neo-bark church, an ice rink, a museum and many cultural and gastronomic points. Many monuments, like the ” Pułaski ” shaft complex, attract tourists from all over Poland. The Nikiszowiec housing estate has also been recognized as a Monument of History and is an important point on the Industrial Monuments Route.

THYME & TRAVEL

travel chef katowice

The Time Traveled Chef

Chef Nate’s extensive culinary touring career began when he graduated from San Francisco State University . . . with a Political Science degree.

Upon graduation, he was offered an opportunity to go on tour with a traveling circus of bands that he admired growing up. The offer involved washing dishes for 500 people, three times per day. He took the job just to get his foot in the door and steered clear of politics, which he now believes was a great move.

During this time, he worked his way up from the bottom and learned every station, including the ins and outs of private cheffing and event catering. From 2007-2018, he traveled and cooked for large events, including the Vans Warped Tour, EDC, Life is Beautiful, Lighting in a Bottle, StageCoach, and Coachella.

For more than a decade, Chef Nate traveled and cooked for both artists and crews that included Prince, Motley Crue, KISS, Lionel Richie, Janet Jackson, Drake, Sia, OneRepublic, U2, Rihanna, J-Z, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, New Kids on the Block, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park and many more. By 2016, he had transitioned to the role of crew chief overseeing the entire crew's daily operations for these various tours.

After years of touring, he decided that it was time to pursue his own private cheffing career. In 2018, he launched the business that would become Thyme & Travel Private Chef Services.

In 2019, he married Glendalyne (Gigi), the love of his life, and together they travel the world providing private chef services and catering for events of all sizes.  They now call Flagstaff home, and they primarily serve Flagstaff, Sedona, and the surrounding areas.
