  • We’ll then manage the cruise reservation for two CabinMates from the inception of the booking to the completion of the sailing.

The idea behind CabinMate originated with the challenges we at Lorraine Travel had in handling single passengers that needed roommates on large cruise groups. The matching process was a very time consuming, manual chore for our staff and passengers had little control over how they were paired-up. Add to that, how singles would be turned off by the idea of a cruise when they'd be faced with paying the "single supplement; we set out to create a solution.

Cabin Mate is an app-based “roommate finder” for singles to find an ideal roommate for any cruise. The idea of enabling singles to find each other online to split the cost of a cruise bodes well with the “sharing economy”. Today, so many things beyond homes & rides are being shared. CabinMate will provide single travelers a more immersive, authentic, and affordable travel experience. Using CabinMate will afford solo, like-minded travelers the opportunity to make new relationships and friendships, establishing a social network for adults from multiple generations who enjoy cruise vacations.

Coming Soon, SplittingIt, an app for singles to share hotel rooms at 5 Star hotel! Stay-Tuned.

Cruise Passenger

Are you a good cruise companion?

Cruise lines may be taking the initiative to cater to solo-travelers, but the majority of cruisers are still boarding ships with a friend or two. More importantly, we’re sharing cabins with them.

Be it a best friend, a partner or a relative – who you choose to cruise with, will either make it a trip of a lifetime or have you begging the captain to speed up the engines.

Unfortunately, not everyone makes a great cruise buddy. To help you on your next cruise, the Cruise Passenger team has compiled a list of five characteristics we think make a good cruise companion .

Do you have a fund of stories?

You’re stretched out on the sun chair, soaking up some Vitamin D, but the peace is tainted by the awkward silence between you and your cruise companion. You always learn something new, and on this cruise you’ve learnt your cruise buddy is actually quite dull.

If there’s one thing that makes a good cruise companion, it’s having a large bank of stories.

Conversation will flow continuously and hopefully you won’t get bored with your companion.

Are you clingy?

“Hey, want to try the ice skating rink.”

“Actually, I’m hungry want to get some food?”

“Oh no wait there’s the ice cream hut we have to go there.”

Hey, I have a better idea, why don’t you make up your mind and go by yourself!

Cruising with a codependent companion will frustrate you. You’re already sharing four walls with this person, the last thing you want to do is spend your entire cruise with them clinging to your arm.

It’s important to find a cruise companion that is happy to do their own thing as well as do things with you.

Are you tidy?

A good companion is a clean companion.

Maintaining a sense of space by keeping your personal effects, souvenirs and luggage orderly and tidy is important when cruising.

There’s nothing worse than having to constantly sidestep your way to the toilet because your cabin-mate has mistaken the floor for a cupboard.

Can you laugh at anything?

This is particularly important if you’re sharing a cabin with your companion.

When travelling in such close quarters, it’s important to have a good sense of humor. This will ensure you’re both laughing throughout the trip and allow you to move past any conflicts quickly.

Do you get seasick?

If you get seasick and your friend doesn’t – then you’re probably not the best fit.

We all have that friend of a friend who once travelled with a companion that spent the entire trip in bed or in the toilet.

They may laugh about it today, but it just isn’t fun constantly worrying about a sick friend the entire cruise.

Introduction

Embarking on a cruise vacation is an exciting and memorable experience, but for many travelers, the thought of cruising alone can be intimidating. That’s where a cruise companion comes in. A cruise companion is a travel partner who joins you on your cruise adventures, providing companionship, support, and enhancing your overall vacation experience.

Whether you’re a solo traveler looking to meet new people or a couple wanting to expand your social circle, having a cruise companion can make your cruise vacation more enjoyable. They can be a great source of entertainment, someone to share meals and activities with, and even serve as a friendly face in unfamiliar destinations.

While cruise companions are not officially provided by cruise lines, finding one is easier than ever, thanks to online platforms, social media groups, and dedicated websites where like-minded travelers can connect and plan their trips together.

In this article, we will explore what a cruise companion is, the advantages of having one, different types of cruise companions, how to find a cruise companion specifically on Carnival cruises, and the responsibilities and expectations that come with being a cruise companion. We will also provide you with some useful tips for a successful cruise companion experience.

So, whether you are a seasoned cruiser or planning your first voyage, read on to discover how a cruise companion can enhance your vacation and help you create lifelong memories.

Definition of a Cruise Companion

A cruise companion, as the name suggests, is a person who accompanies you on your cruise vacation. They are someone who shares the experience of cruising with you, providing companionship and enhancing your overall journey. A cruise companion can be a friend, family member, colleague, or even a stranger who shares similar travel interests and is willing to join you on your cruise.

While some people prefer to cruise alone and enjoy the solitude and independence, having a cruise companion can bring numerous benefits. It offers the opportunity to socialize, engage in activities together, and create lasting memories. Whether you’re looking for a dance partner for the nightly shows, someone to explore ports of call with, or simply a friendly face to share meals and conversations, a cruise companion can make your vacation more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Cruise companionship is based on mutual understanding and compatibility. It’s essential to find someone who shares similar interests, travel preferences, and expectations. This ensures a harmonious partnership throughout the cruise, allowing both individuals to make the most of their time onboard.

It’s important to note that a cruise companion is not the same as a romantic partner or a travel agent. While some cruise companions may develop romantic relationships, the primary purpose of a cruise companion is to provide companionship and enjoy shared experiences during the voyage.

Having a cruise companion can be especially beneficial for solo travelers who may feel lonely or overwhelmed during their journey. It provides an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, form new friendships, and expand social circles. Additionally, a cruise companion can offer a sense of security, particularly for those who may have concerns about safety or navigating unfamiliar destinations.

Next, we will delve into the advantages of having a cruise companion and explore the different types of companions you may encounter on your cruise adventures.

Benefits of Having a Cruise Companion

Having a cruise companion can greatly enhance your vacation experience in various ways. Let’s explore some of the key benefits:

  • Companionship and Socialization: One of the primary benefits of having a cruise companion is the companionship they provide. Whether you’re exploring the ship, participating in onboard activities, or venturing ashore during port stops, having a partner by your side can make the experience more enjoyable. You can engage in conversations, share laughter, and create lasting memories together.
  • Cost Sharing: Cruises can be expensive, especially when it comes to cabin accommodations. Having a cruise companion allows you to split the costs, making it more affordable for both parties. You can opt for a double occupancy stateroom, which often offers better rates compared to solo occupancy cabins.
  • Increased Safety: Traveling alone can sometimes raise concerns about safety, particularly in unfamiliar destinations. Having a cruise companion provides an extra layer of security. You can look out for each other, navigate the ship and ports together, and ensure mutual assistance in case of any emergencies.
  • Shared Experiences: A cruise companion allows you to share the excitement and wonder of exploring new destinations and participating in onboard activities. From attending live performances to trying out water sports, having someone to experience these moments with can make them even more memorable.
  • Expanded Social Circle: Cruises are fantastic opportunities to meet new people and make lifelong connections. With a cruise companion, you can extend your social circle beyond just the two of you. You can interact with fellow passengers, join group activities, or form friendships with other couples or solo travelers onboard.
  • Flexibility and Support: Having a cruise companion allows for greater flexibility and support during your cruise. You can plan and decide on activities together, choosing those that cater to both of your interests. Additionally, your companion can provide emotional support, sharing in the joys and challenges of the journey.

These are just a few of the many benefits of having a cruise companion. It’s important to consider your own preferences and travel style when deciding if a cruise companion is right for you. Next, we will discuss the different types of cruise companions you may encounter on your voyage.

Types of Cruise Companions

Cruise companions come in various forms, each with their own unique qualities and dynamics. Let’s explore the different types of cruise companions you may encounter on your voyage:

  • Friends or Family: One of the most common types of cruise companions is friends or family members. Traveling with someone you already have a close relationship with can enhance the overall experience. It allows you to spend quality time together, strengthen bonds, and create memorable moments while enjoying the amenities and activities on the ship.
  • Travel Partners: Many people find cruise companions by seeking out travel partners who share similar interests and travel preferences. These can be individuals you meet through online platforms, travel forums, or social media groups dedicated to connecting like-minded travelers. Travel partners can bring a fresh perspective to your journey and offer the opportunity to make new friends from around the world.
  • Solo Travelers: Solo travelers often seek cruise companions to share the experience and avoid the potential loneliness of traveling alone. Connecting with fellow solo travelers on dedicated solo traveler forums or social media groups can be a great way to find compatible cruise companions. This type of companion offers the chance to meet someone who understands the joys and challenges of solo travel and can provide support and encouragement throughout the voyage.
  • Couples: Couples who embark on cruises together can also seek out cruise companions to enhance their vacation. They may look for other couples to socialize with, engage in activities together, and enjoy shared experiences. This type of companion is ideal for couples who enjoy meeting new people and expanding their social circle.
  • Special Interest Companions: Some travelers look for cruise companions who share their specific interests or hobbies. For example, nature lovers may seek out companions who enjoy wildlife excursions and eco-adventures. Food enthusiasts may pair up with fellow foodies to indulge in culinary experiences. Finding a cruise companion with whom you share a passion can enhance the overall enjoyment of your vacation.

When seeking a cruise companion, it’s important to identify the type of companion that best suits your needs and interests. Compatibility is key to ensuring a positive and fulfilling cruise experience. Now that we’ve explored different types of cruise companions, let’s discover how you can find a cruise companion specifically on Carnival cruises.

Finding a Cruise Companion on Carnival

When it comes to finding a cruise companion on Carnival cruises, there are several avenues you can explore. Consider the following options to connect with potential cruise companions:

  • Cruise Line’s Website: Start by visiting Carnival’s official website. They often have forums or community boards where you can interact with other passengers who are also looking for cruise companions. These platforms provide an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and discuss potential cruise plans.
  • Social Media Groups: Join social media groups dedicated to Carnival cruises. Platforms like Facebook, Reddit, and Cruise Critic have active communities where you can find other Carnival travelers seeking companions. Engage in discussions, post your own inquiries, and connect with potential cruise companions who match your travel preferences.
  • Cruise Companion Websites: There are specialized websites dedicated to connecting cruise travelers who are seeking companions. Research and join reputable websites that cater specifically to Carnival cruises. These platforms allow you to create a profile, search for compatible companions, and communicate with them before your trip.
  • Travel Forums and Blogs: Explore travel forums and blogs related to cruising. These platforms often have sections where travelers can connect and find cruise companions. Engage with fellow forum members, ask questions, and express your interest in finding a cruise companion on Carnival cruises.

Regardless of the method you choose, it’s crucial to communicate with potential cruise companions extensively before committing to the partnership. Discuss your travel expectations, preferences, and any concerns you may have. It’s important to establish a level of trust and compatibility to ensure a successful cruise companion experience.

Remember that finding a cruise companion is a two-way process. Be open to different possibilities and take the time to understand each other’s needs and interests. By putting in the effort to find the right cruise companion, you can set the stage for an incredible journey onboard Carnival cruises.

Now that we have explored different methods to find a cruise companion on Carnival, let’s discuss the responsibilities and expectations that come with being a cruise companion.

Responsibilities and Expectations of a Cruise Companion

Being a cruise companion comes with certain responsibilities and expectations. When entering into a cruise companion partnership, it’s important to have a clear understanding of these factors. Let’s explore the key responsibilities and expectations of a cruise companion:

  • Communication: Open and honest communication is essential between cruise companions. Discuss your travel preferences, expectations, and any concerns well in advance of your trip. This includes details such as preferred dining arrangements, activity preferences, and shore excursion choices. Regular communication throughout the cruise is also important to ensure that both companions are satisfied with the overall experience.
  • Financial Arrangements: It’s crucial to have a clear understanding of the financial arrangements between cruise companions. Discuss the division of costs and expenses associated with the cruise, such as cabin accommodation, onboard activities, and dining. Settle any financial agreements before the cruise to avoid misunderstandings or conflicts during the trip.
  • Respect for Each Other’s Privacy: While cruise companions often spend a significant amount of time together, it’s important to respect each other’s personal space and privacy. Understand and agree upon boundaries regarding downtime, personal belongings, and alone time. Respecting each other’s need for solitude or privacy can help maintain a healthy and harmonious cruise companion relationship.
  • Flexibility and Compromise: Flexibility and compromise are key qualities in a successful cruise companion relationship. Understand that both companions may have different preferences and interests. Be willing to make compromises and find a balance that ensures both individuals have an enjoyable experience. This includes being open to trying new activities, dining at different venues, and considering each other’s suggestions.
  • Mutual Support: Being a cruise companion means providing support to each other throughout the journey. This can include emotional support during moments of excitement or stress, offering assistance in navigating the ship and ports of call, and looking out for each other’s well-being. Being a reliable and supportive partner contributes to a positive cruise companion experience.
  • Resolving Conflicts: In any relationship, conflicts can arise, and it’s important to address them calmly and respectfully. If disagreements occur, strive to find a resolution through open and constructive communication. This may involve discussing concerns, compromising, and finding common ground. Remember that the goal is to create an enjoyable and harmonious cruise experience for both companions.

By understanding and embracing these responsibilities and expectations, you can ensure a smooth and fulfilling cruise companion experience. Now, let’s dive into some tips to make your cruise companion experience even more successful.

Tips for a Successful Cruise Companion Experience

To ensure a successful cruise companion experience, consider the following tips:

  • Discuss Expectations in Advance: Before embarking on your cruise, have a thorough discussion with your cruise companion about your expectations for the trip. Talk about your preferred activities, dining options, and general plans for the voyage. Understanding each other’s expectations can help avoid potential conflicts and ensure a smooth journey together.
  • Respect Each Other’s Space: While it’s important to spend time together, respect each other’s need for personal space and alone time. Allow each other the freedom to explore individual interests and recharge whenever necessary. This balance of togetherness and independence can contribute to a healthy and enjoyable cruise companion experience.
  • Be Open to New Experiences: Embrace the opportunity to try new activities and experiences that your cruise companion suggests. Challenges and surprises can lead to memorable moments and a deeper bond between companions. Step out of your comfort zone and engage in shared adventures that will create lasting memories.
  • Communicate and Resolve Issues: Open and honest communication is key to maintaining a healthy cruise companion relationship. If any issues or conflicts arise, address them promptly and constructively. Listen to each other’s perspectives, find common ground, and work towards a resolution that is satisfactory for both parties.
  • Practice Considerate Behavior: Show consideration for your cruise companion by being mindful of their needs and preferences. Be punctual for planned activities, respect quiet hours in the cabin, and maintain cleanliness and tidiness in shared spaces. Small gestures of consideration go a long way in creating a positive cruise companion experience.
  • Embrace Flexibility: Keep in mind that not everything will go according to plan. Be flexible and adaptable when faced with changes in the itinerary, weather conditions, or unforeseen circumstances. Embrace the spirit of adventure and make the most out of any situation, ensuring a fun and memorable cruise experience.
  • Enjoy Shared Moments: Make an effort to create shared memories and enjoy experiences together. Participate in onboard activities, attend shows and performances, engage in conversations, and explore ports of call side by side. Cherish the moments you spend together and make the most out of your cruise accompanied by a trusted companion.

By following these tips, you can foster a successful and enjoyable cruise companion experience, creating unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

Before we conclude, let’s summarize the importance of having a cruise companion and the benefits it brings to your overall vacation experience.

A cruise companion can greatly enhance your vacation experience, offering companionship, shared adventures, and support throughout your journey. Whether you’re a solo traveler looking to meet new people or a couple seeking to expand your social circle, having a cruise companion on Carnival can bring numerous benefits.

From the advantages of increased socialization and cost sharing to the various types of companions you may encounter, there are plenty of reasons to consider finding a cruise companion. Connecting with like-minded individuals through websites, social media groups, and forums dedicated to Carnival cruises can help you find your ideal travel partner.

However, it’s important to understand the responsibilities and expectations that come with being a cruise companion, such as open communication, respect for personal space, and flexibility. By embracing these responsibilities and following some valuable tips, you can ensure a successful cruise companion experience.

Remember, the journey is not just about the destinations and activities; it’s also about the people you share it with. Together with your cruise companion, you can create lasting memories, form friendships, and make your Carnival cruise an unforgettable experience.

How to Find a Travel Companion: Safe Options and Some to Avoid

Janice Waugh

Finding a travel companion can make travel better but it can also make it worse.

There was a lively debate about finding a travel partner on the Solo Travel Society on Facebook.

  • The majority of people considered this service counter to solo travel. Karen wrote: “I don't want to connect with anyone, love being solo. “
  • Some thought that there was definitely a place for it. Danielle wrote: “when it comes to hiking or camping remotely while solo, that's a little nerve wracking and I'd love to meet up with people who are in the same mindset. “
  • Some liked the idea as a means of getting around the single supplement. Mary wrote: “I like the idea of being connected to someone sometimes to avoid that “single-occupancy tax. “

Let's be clear: despite being a solo traveler, I have traveled with companions many times and had good success. It can enhance the travel experience as you discover a new destination through your own cultural lens and that of your new travel companion as well.

Yet, whatever your reason for seeking a travel companion, I suggest you proceed with caution and use the methods below. They are safe and will help increase your chances of making a successful match.

How to Find a Travel Companion: Methods I Can Recommend

There are safe ways to find a travel partner for a day, a week, or more. These methods give you the freedom of being solo and connecting to interesting people when you want.

1. Get a warm introduction from a friend.

One of the best ways to find a travel companion is through a friend or family member. Being concerned for your safety, they will only suggest that you travel with people they trust. Hopefully, you will be geographically close enough to meet each other a few times before setting out so that you can determine for yourself whether they are a person with whom you'd like to spend a lot of time.

2. How to meet the right travel companion along the way.

This has happened to me most often in hostels, but it doesn't really matter where you meet them. The point is that you meet a travel buddy as you travel, not before. You get to meet them in person and spend a few days together sharing meals or day tours before committing to anything longer. Spend the days in the public sphere and return to your own safe accommodation every night. Eventually, you can decide whether this is the right person for you to travel with.

3. Let your tour/cruise company connect you with a travel partner.

If your goal is to avoid the single supplement on a tour or cruise, ask the travel company to partner you with another solo traveler. Most companies will and, if they can't, they'll give you your own room for no additional charge. See our Deals  page for tours and cruises with no or low single supplements.

4. Use Meetup.com to find locals who want similar experiences

Meetup.com is a fabulous resource for solo travelers to meet people of similar interests. These are most often locals, not people to travel with. But, locals! How great is that? I used Meetup.com and found people to hike with in Hong Kong.

5. Book a greeter and have a local share their city with you.

International Greeters  connects you with locals who volunteer to show off their city. I've used this service in Paris, New York, Kyoto, and Chicago. It's a great way to meet and have fun with someone new. I've gone cycling, shared lunch, and shopped with greeters.

6. Women Welcome Women World Wide

This is an international community of 2,400 people in over 80 countries. They are mostly women over 60 who want to travel more often and meet locals, so they host one another for a tea or a stay as they travel. Read  Women Welcoming Women: A Gateway to International Friendships .

7. Take a day tour or a class to find a travel companion.

If social is what you're looking for, schedule in time for social activities. Day tours and group lessons give you a social experience. Perhaps you'll meet someone with whom you'd like to spend more time. Read How to Travel Alone Without Being Lonely: 10 Tips & 6 Short Stories .

3 Safety Rules for Traveling with Someone New

Traveling with someone you do not know really well requires a few safety tips, especially if you're traveling independently:

  • Stay in public. When you are with someone new, stay in the public sphere for at least a few days. You need a bit of time to get to know them before renting a car together or sharing a hotel room. Eventually, determine whether this is a person with whom you truly feel safe.
  • Be proactive . Choose who you want to spend time with. Make your own decisions rather than responding to invitations from others who might have agendas of their own.
  • Don't be rushed into a decision. If you are considering traveling with someone, don't be rushed into the decision. If the idea comes up but they say that you must decide by a time that is less than comfortable for you, decline the opportunity.

Apps/Sites for Travel Companions: My Concerns

There are a number of apps and websites that will help you find a travel partner. I have concerns about them for the following reasons.

  • Compatibility . Just because you're going to the same destination does not mean that you're compatible with someone. You may not discover until you're into the trip that you don't share the same interests or ways of exploring, never mind the rhythm of your travels. This can make for a miserable trip.
  • Catfishing . A catfish is someone online who pretends to be someone they're not. Without a real life connection, there is no way to know who is real and who isn't on social media. This could put you in a vulnerable situation where the person you thought was going to be your travel buddy is actually expecting to hook up, is not who they pretended to be, or worse.
  • Misunderstandings . The potential for a serious misunderstanding is another reason I don't promote the idea of finding a travel partner on an app. Your new travel partner may not have had any intention of deceiving you and may not mean to cause you any harm, yet they may have different hopes for the trip than you do.
  • Telling the world you're solo . By participating on an independent matching site and sharing your itinerary you are telling the world that you are traveling solo and where. While I don't hide the fact that I'm solo while I travel, for safety reasons, I don't broadcast it either.
  • Sites/apps can get too much personal information . In an effort to increase member safety, some sites go through a variety of verification steps, including gathering government ID information. This raises identity safety concerns.

Because I can't promote the sites that help you find a travel partner (I don't have experience with them), I'm not giving you a list. However, if you are still interested, you will find a list on Google. If you do so, I hope you'll be cautious with a new travel partner and read the Solo Travel Safety section of the site before leaving.

Fallout 4: How To Locate Lost Companions

You have quite a lot of activities to complete in Fallout 4 , including managing the Settlements. Companions can help you with this , but unfortunately, they have a bad habit of getting lost from time to time. Companions can get lost in the Wasteland for a variety of reasons. For example, you might fast travel to another location or find a new Companion. In any case, Fallout 4 provides several ways to find them again, though they're easy to miss.

Fallout 4 Players Are Recreating the TV Show's Characters in the Game

How to locate lost companions in fallout 4.

One way to do this is available only to PC players and is not entirely fair, while the second method can be used by everyone. To locate a lost Companion in Fallout 4 , you need to use the NPC teleport Console Command or create a Vault-Tec Population Management System.

How To Use Console Commands To Find Lost Companions

Unfortunately, Console Commands are only available to PC players. To find your lost companions in Fallout 4 using a Console Command, you must follow these steps:

  • Open the Console by pressing the "~" button on your keyboard.
  • Type "prid [input unique Companion ID]" and press Enter.
  • After that, type "moveto player" and press Enter again.
  • Finally, close the Console so that your lost friend appears in front of you.

Each Companion in Fallout 4 has a unique ID, except Automatron, which changes depending on how you build it. And to make it more convenient for you, all Fallout 4 Companion IDs have been compiled below:

How To Use The Vault-Tec Population Management System To Locate Lost Companions

If you do not want or cannot use Console Commands, then this method is what you need. While in your Settlement, open the build menu, select Power, and then the Miscellaneous section. There, you will find the Vault-Tec Population Management System, which will help you find Companions in Fallout 4 . Once you have built it, interact with it and go to the VIP tracker tab. There, players can select specific or all Companions and mark their location on the map . But this, of course, only applies to recruited NPCs.

Has anyone had issues with sending invites for cruise companions.  We did it on our cruise two weeks ago and it worked well for dinners but we’ve tried the invites for our Nov cruise but they aren’t going to the recipients email.

Are you meaning in order to link your cruise bookings with others you are traveling with for the purpose of being seated together for dinner? I've never done it through Cruise Manager on the Carnival site. But you can have your bookings linked by calling Carnival or your travel agent. Then, if desired, you'll be seating together if you have assigned dining. And it will link you together through the hub app so you can request reservations for brunch or anytime dining and be seated with people in your group. You can also easily chat and text with people in your group through the Hub app.

We have a large group and it worked for everyone except one couple.  I had to send the invite several times before they finally got it.  This was over a period of weeks.

I’ve just used the email request in the app to add people.  Has worked in the past but isn’t now.  Will continue to try.

Yes, I used this is the past with no issues.  But, about two months ago, it stopped working.  I have reported to via phone and I also reported to John Heald (he said he would check into it, but it is still not working).  Wish they would fix it because it is a pain to call because you need the other traveler's booking numbers and other info.
