Every city has certain must-see attractions, and Singapore is no exception. The first time we visited, we basically had to squeeze all the best things to see in Singapore into a day and a half.

Our friends were not impressed. “Next time, you have to go to the Singapore Zoo Night Safari!” they insisted. So peer pressure and thumbs-up TripAdvisor reviews talked us into visiting an attraction without knowing what to expect. The only thing we knew for sure was that we’d never hear the end of it if we didn’t make it to the Singapore Night Safari the next time we passed through the country.

After having visited twice, here’s our hard-learned travel guide to the Singapore Night Safari. Is it worth it? Read on to find out.

What is the Singapore Night Safari, anyway?

If you’re thinking that Singapore Night Safari is just another zoo, you’ve got another think coming. I mean, it’s not like going to the regular zoo at night. This is a separate attraction, right next to the Singapore Zoo, where they keep all the animals that do nothing but sleep while the sun’s out.

This is where you get to spy on those critters and see what they do after the gates close for the day.

Why visit the Singapore Night Safari?

There are several reasons to visit the Singapore Night Safari: its unique nocturnal setting, diverse animal species, close encounters with animals through the tram ride and paths, and spectacular shows. When Night Safari opened in 1994, it was the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park. The man who came up with the idea was a genius ( you can read his story here ). The Singapore Night Safari is considered a world-class attraction, and it welcomes more than 1.1 million visitors a year!

It has also become a significant conservation, rescue and research facility. Most encouraging of all, it has successfully bred a number of endangered species, including Malayan tigers, Asian elephants, fishing cats, Malayan tapirs and Asian lions.

The park’s lighting has been specially designed to be only as bright as the full moon, and since animals are used to that, they are awake and active. Visitors have to find their way around with only the “light of the moon” as a guide, but if you have ever gone camping, you will know that it is adequate.

As you might imagine, flash photography and flashlights are prohibited, not only for the well-being of the animals, but for the safety of others. Being suddenly blinded by an unexpected flash can really mess with your eyesight.

How to get to Singapore Night Safari

The Night Safari is next to the Singapore Zoo and River Safari. It’s only a 30-minute drive from Marina Bay and Orchard Road.

The best way to get to the Night Safari is by MRT and shuttle bus. Take the MRT to Khatib Station (NS14) on the North South line. Use Exit A to catch the Mandai Khatib Shuttle to the Night Safari.

Public transportation

To get to the Night Safari by public transportation, take the MRT to Ang Mo Kio station (NS16). Cross the street and take bus 138 to Night Safari.

Bus routes 138 and 927 both have a stop at the Night Safari.

Book an excursion

The most hassle-free way to visit the Night Safari is to book an excursion with a tour company. They will provide skip-the line tickets and hotel pickup and return, and you also get priority boarding on the tram. Learn more here.

Taxi/GrabCar

We’ve also taken a taxi to the safari and called GrabCar to take us home. (GrabCar is the Uber of Southeast Asia.)

While it’s more expensive than taking the MRT, a taxi/GrabCar offers the convenience of traveling door-to-door, on your schedule. Note that the cost is PER CAR,   not per person, so factor that in if you’re comparing prices.

• Taxi:  Calculate your fare  here . I couldn’t find a GrabCar price calculator, but I’ve been told that taxi and GrabCar prices are comparable.

Night Safari entrance

As with most parks, the zoo entrance is lined with shops and food joints. There are a number of places to eat at the Night Safari at assorted price points.

The food court has a traditional  kampong  (village) ambiance, in keeping with the overall adventure theme you’d expect at a zoo. Most special diets can be accommodated because it has a nice variety of options, from tasty satays to noodle soups, fish and even burgers and beer.

Your food options include:

• Jungle Rotisserie (roasted quarter chicken) – you can watch the Thrumbuakar performance from your seat.
• Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant (buffet plus local a la carte options like chicken rice and laksa)
• Safari Sizzles (hot dogs & fried snacks, plus both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks)
• Zebra Cafe (soft serve frozen yogurt, snacks and drinks of all types)
• Ben & Jerry’s (ice cream treats)
• Casa Italia (32 flavors of gelato)
• Mandai Mart (fruit cups and slushies)

For us, it was Ulu Ulu on both occasions, because Dan enjoyed their delicious Indian buffet that much the first time. This is one case where doing a bit of prior research would have paid off. We arrived early so we’d have more time for dinner, only to find out that they offer an Asian buffet first.

Just so you know, their Indian buffet starts at 8:30.

Night Safari’s Zebra Cafe has some really fun chairs.It’s obvious that the interior designer was talented. We were surprised by the designer’s attention to detail –  even in the washrooms! They are designed with an open plan, with waterfalls, floor-to-ceiling windows, and lush landscaping that makes you feel like you’re washing your hands in a tropical garden. I’ve read that they won awards for them. (Umm … awards for bathrooms?)

IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT go to Singapore Night Safari expecting to get good photos. You won’t. Cell phone cameras are not equipped to capture good photos in limited light, especially when the subject is moving. A tripod and fast camera lens are essential for good photos, so if you have them, come prepared.

Navigating the Night Safari

Singapore Night Safari is divided into seven geographical zones. There are four pathways that lead you through them all.

Tip: Remember to wear shoes with good traction. Some areas can be wet and it is easy to trip in the darkness.

More than 59 exhibits and 1,000 animals live here. Their enclosures are grouped into geographical regions, accessible via 4 walking trails and a tram tour.

Our suggested itinerary

We’d suggest that you plan your evening around the two live shows they offer. Here’s a good itinerary:

• 6:00 – Dinner
• 7:00 – Enjoy the Thumbuakar fire show
• 7:15 – Walk through the trails
• 9:40 – Tram ride
• 10:30 – Creatures of the Night show
• 10:50 – Gift shop

Thumbuakar fire show

Pyromaniacs will really enjoy this spectacle. Fire breathing tribal warriors display their skill as they dance and perform their fiery stunts.

• Time: Daily except Wednesdays at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm (and 10pm on weekends and holidays)

Creatures of the Night

The Creatures of the Night Show is a great opportunity to take a break and be entertained at the same time. You’ll see the natural abilities of some of the most fascinating animals in the park. The show lasts 20 minutes but because it’s so popular, you should arrive 30 minutes ahead to ensure a good seat.

• Where: Amphitheatre
• Time: 7:30pm, 8:30pm, 9:30pm and 10:30pm (weather permitting)

Guided tram ride

Don’t miss the 40-minute guided tram ride with live commentary, because some of the animals can only be seen from the tram. Your knowledgeable tram guide will fill you in on the beasts and the 6 geographical zones as you drive through them all:

• Himalayan Foothills
• Indian Subcontinent
• Equatorial Africa
• Asian Riverine Forest
• Nepalese River Valley
• Burmese Hillside

What you’ll see on your walk through the Night Safari paths

As you walk through the pathways, you will notice that there are no cages; all that stand between you and the wild animals are a moat and a low fence. There they are, only a little more than arm’s reach away, awake and doing what they normally would do in the wild.

• Wallaby Trail – this Australasian-inspired trail includes an area where cute little wallabies hop back-and-forth across your path. (I almost tripped over one little guy, who wasn’t watching where he was going!) You can also enter a “cave,” complete with dripping water, to watch nocturnal cave critters.
• East Lodge Trail – you can see wild African and Asian animals up close here, thanks to glass-fronted enclosures. Highlights include the splendid Malayan tiger and the devious spotted hyena.
• Leopard Trail – the beautiful leopard has his own huge glass-fronted exhibit for your enjoyment. The trail also offers Mangrove Walk and Giant Flying Squirrel Aviary, two walk-through exhibits that allow you to experience creatures swooping around and above you.
• Fishing Cat Trail – watch the fishing cat as it tries to reel in its fish dinner in front of your eyes.

In addition, the park has a special area for smaller critters, like reptiles, and each cage is small enough that it’s easy to find them. Even there, the caretakers were careful to create a natural environment for their well-being.

Wonderful post. Thanks for such detailed information. I am travelling in October with my family. My dad is hemiplegic so he will be in wheelchair. We want to cover both Singapore Zoo and River Safari. How much do we need to walk? Are the pathways easily wheelchair friendly? Is it like really very long walk combining both. Are the outside food allowed inside as I need to carry some homemade food for my father.

We’ve not visited the Singapore Zoo yet so we can’t tell you how accessible it is or how much walking you’ll do. The Night Safari has hills and some places have stairs so you might have to detour. We’d suggest checking the map on their website and planning a route to save some steps. As to outside food, there shouldn’t be a problem bringing it in.

Short answer is NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Read TripAdvisor ‘terrible’ reviews to get the real picture, these are absolutely accurate. It is a tragedy of monstrous proportions. One of the worst things I did in my whole life.

Wow, it’s hard to believe an attraction could have been that terrible. Which things to do in Singapore would you recommeend?

Wow, this must be a Unique adventure for you. Wandering through the trails and finding animals in their natural surrounding is a bit exciting and Scary too. But they use proper protection so nothing to worry.

What we like most about the Night Safari is how easy it is to get close to the animals and feel completely safe. I hope we conveyed that in our article.

I haven’t been to the Night Safari in years – I think the fire show is fairly new, because I don’t remember it at all. It sounds great! The Creatures of the Night Show, though, left a lasting impression on me for all the wrong reasons: despite repeated requests to refrain from using flash photography in order to protect the animals’ eyes, I saw SO many camera flashes go off during those few minutes. Seeing that kind of blatant selfishness up close was really infuriating.

I completely agree! We had the same experience when on the tram, but thankfully the guide reminded people to turn the flash off.

Absolutely disappointed. Do not waste your money. Go see the zoo in the day light. Photos are not worth the effort. Half the animals cannot be seen. We just love zoos, but not this Night Safari. Go have breakfast with the Oranatangs instead.

Singapore didn’t seem terribly expensive – when compared with other major cities – like Tokyo, London, Barcelona. Hotels and transportation are the ones that are quite high-priced.

For sure accommodation is pricey in Singapore, but the hawker stands make up for it with some of the cheapest restaurant food on the planet. Maybe the reason Singapore has a reputation for being expensive is because of the contrast, as its neighbouring southeast Asian nations are so dirt cheap?

We also missed the fire-breathing Thumbuakar performance – It was drizzling and they had to cancel the show.. We ended up taking the buggy as it was drizzling and had a very tough time taking any meaningful picture..

Nursing Rooms: You will find multiple nursing rooms where you can nurse your infants, at the Entrance Plaza, Giant Panda Forest, Boat Plaza and Amazon flooded forest in the river wonders.

Diaper Changing Facilities: There are various areas which facilitate diaper change for your kids like in the Entrance Plaza, the Giant Panda Forest, Boat Plaza, and the Amazon Flooded Forest in the river wonders.

Mobility Access: You can rent a stroller for your kids, and also electric scooters and complimentary wheelchairs for those in need.

In-Park WiFi: Get a free internet connection inside the park and keep updating stories and pictures on Instagram and Facebook.

First Aid: If you are unwell or get injured, then you will have immediate First Aid facilities and will be treated by professionals.

Lockers: You will have access to lockers to keep your personal belongings safely so that you don’t have to carry them in the park.

• Flash photography is strictly prohibited.
• You can bring your pets with you to the park premises.
• Roller skates, tricycles, skate scooters, pushing trolleys, etc are not allowed inside the park premises.

Tips to Visit Singapore Night Safari

• There is a lot to explore at the park, and you will get to see a lot of animals and zones in the parks. So, it is advised to time your visit so as to not miss any important show or zone.
• Do not forget to wear insect repellent, you will be in the wilderness at night so it is unknown what bugs can bite you. So, be prepared by wearing bug repellent on the exposed skin areas.
• At night safari, it can rain anytime without being predicted, so it is advisable to come prepared for the rain.
• Singapore is hot and humid, and it feels even hotter at the night safari, so keep yourself hydrated to beat the heat.

The first time I've ever stalked animals at night. I'm not usually a zoo fan, despite having been to many around the world. But this one truly had me intrigued. It doesn't open until 7 pm and I believe closes around midnight. They have installed special lighting that gives humans and the nocturnal animals the illusion of a full moon. Being able to see an entirely different group of animals you normally don't get to see to in life or other zoos. First stop I took a tram ride that followed a certain route. The driver pointed out various animals and their night time activities. It takes about 30 minutes. The jumped off and started on one of several well marked paths. Walking the well paved and wide paths through heavily trees areas. And popping out to animals that were eating or playing in the moonlight. Lions that were on the prowl out of the hot sun. Anteaters searching anthills for a snack. And even the chance to feed a rhinoceros. It was amazing how active the animals were in the early evening. Paths were well marked with the different trail names and the animals along the way. The entrance area had shops and a few restaurants. The animal parks offer a free shuttle to the nearest MRT station. Use it, it's not that close to walk to in the dark. Last one runs 11:45 pm. The all 4 park entrance ticket can be purchased online. It can easily be. And there are several places available for meals and/or snacks. The parks are a ways out there.

Never in my life would I think a Night Safari is a thing, but how absolutely brilliant! I was not expecting so many animals to be awake. The tram at this location took us to see various animals and basically all of them were awake and/or visible. I was also able to see a lot of animals that I never knew existed. You're quite close to the animals, and you can even walk some trails to get closer. This is a very cool experience, everyone has to try this at least once!

Night Safari was recommended by my Singaporean friend and my boyfriend and I enjoyed it a lot! We found the experience very unique since we have never been to a zoo in the dark! After we arrived, we got onto the Safari to see the animals. The Safari ride was very slow so you would definitely have enough time to take pictures if you would like to. I wanted to enjoy the experience so I didn't take any pictures myself. The ride was a lot longer than I expected. I didn't really check the time but I think it was probably around 30min long? We got to see a lot of animals while we were on the Safari but some of them were a little hard to spot since it was dark. After the Safari tour, we also walked on the different trails. They had 4 trails and we went to all of them. It was a bit confusing to find some of the trails at the beginning but we later realized they were all connected. I think a map at the entrance would've been helpful! It was a bit hot and humid but that's just the weather of Singapore. The night Safari is quite far from the rest of the popular attractions in Singapore and it takes around 45min-1 hour to get there from city center if you're taking public transportation. You can take the train to Khatib and they have a shuttle that goes to the night Safari directly for 1SGD. If you have extra time in Singapore, definitely check it out!

We visited the Night Safari 20+ years ago and came back with our daughters. We avoided the train, but walked the four trails. After a slow start we reallygot into it. Plenty of animals we hadn't seen move look Westwood here and even plenty of animals we had never seen before. In the dark this is just a very special experience.

Wonderful experience at the night safari in Singapore. I paid about $49.50sgd and $10sgd to feed the rhino. I got there about 645pm via cab since I couldn't book anything on grab. Even though it was a week day, Tuesday night, I would recommend to leave early since there is usually traffic around that time. I purchased tickets online for convenience but you can buy in person as well. Be prepared to walk in the dark and bring spray for bugs along with water. You are able to take a ride on the tram if you prefer not to walk. They offer for drinks and food for purchase that's open until midnight when the night attraction ends. Okay let's talk about the rhino experience I just can't believe how awesome this was. You get a cup of carrots for feeding and the zoo keepers were so nice to video and take pictures while feeding. If you are in Singapore stop by for an epic experience.

So much to see, where to begin.. bring a refillable water bottles, it gets hot & sticky, even though it's at night. I would recommend, going on the trails first, there's so much to see, that you miss if you just take the tram. The most amazing thing we saw, was the lions getting fed & then all 7 of them roaring for about 4 minutes! It was so delightful. Also, we saw the white rhinoceros being fed & the tiger.

Honestly, I was disappointed. I have heard about this being some awesome unique amazing event. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I attended the night creatures show which was cool but two of the animals never did their trick or showed their talent. I get it, animals get a vote, but the trainers just couldn't get it done. Then the ~40 minute tram ride. It was a neat idea. But most of the animals just laid around like they do during the day. Only parts of the exhibits were lite up so in some cases the trains automated narration would call of animals I never even saw. Because the Corona virus is going around the park was actually pretty empty which was nice. If you have the chance do this. Maybe the animals will be more active for you. I did the 9:15 time slot. I'm glad I crossed it off my list, but I won't go back.

I had the best time at the Night Safari even with a 9:15pm entrance on a Saturday night. I arrived to the premise around 8:30pm, but I like that the times are staggered for crowd control. To kill time, there's a food court with different cuisines. I opted for overpriced Indian food, but it was so hot that I ate just to eat. Right upon entering at 9:15pm, I dashed to the tram tour that lasted under an hour. Lots of animals were in hiding, but few were out and about. After the tour, I walked the different trails. One of my favorite parts was stumbling upon feeding time. A zookeeper had a bucket of cut fruits and as he tossed them around the area, many of the animals came out from hiding. At the moment, I can't recall which type of animal. I just remembered that the animals looked happy chomping away. My other favorite part about the safari was the live animal show. The animals (not sure what kind,) performed various tricks. After the show, you can take a photo with the animals! Well, the zookeeper holds the animal and is also in the picture with you. The night safari is suitable for all audiences ranging from kids to adults to elders. Exploring the safari makes for a great date night idea!

Night safari had cool animals but you only got to see about half of them. They are incredibly mindful and respectful towards the animals so you literally feel like you are actually going on a safari in the night-time. The whole zoo is entirely dark and they only have a few lights per enclosure with extremely dim light so if the animals aren't out in that particular spot you'll miss them. Although a lot of recommendations online tell you not to do all three Zoo activities in one day, I believe pretty much everyone does. The night safari has a horrendous wait. The entrance line to get in, the tram line, and the show line felt like a war or zombie invasion. People are incredibly aggressive and obviously all want to be in front and get in. I think the show is the best part, everything else besides the waits require extreme patience & acceptance to disappointment in case you don't get to see half the animals I did this under 2 hours but I'm sure you could take a little extra time if you like. This location is kind of in the middle of nowhere but not too far from the main part of Singapore, it takes roughly 20 minutes to get here from the city. From my experience, night safari and River Safari are cool to do but not necessary if you have to choose one out of the three. If I had to put them in order it would be Singapore Zoo, night safari, then River Safari.

So night safari sounds super cool right? Too bad it rains everyday in Singapore more like Singa-pour and the animals seal shelter just as we do. Unfortunate experience for us really. It's expensive a meal for one is $25 tickets are $65. The trolley takes you around the main strip and you can see all sorts of animals: hippos, elephants, deer, zebras, hyenas, all sorts of pigs etc. Cool to see but it's dark you can't get any pics of them and you kind feel sad that they're kept enclosed by electrocuted fences. I wondered how they could have a lion across from a zebra without anything happening. The zoo is really open so the animals don't appear to be "caged" which is a really cool view but I'm sure we would have enjoyed it without the rain. Our tour guide said it would take an hour to walk the 4 walking trails to see a closer look of the animals and it took us roughly 35 min. There just wasn't anything to look at. Fortunately we found a tiger laying right on the glass-- easily the coolest thing we saw. THey shirts for $20 are a rip off. Go to the market they're 5 for $10. Just don't buy anything here. The food selection is scarce. Like they force you to eat at their $30 a meal restaurants. Or you're stuck eating finger foods that were pre made hours ago for $15. Hmmm. You win there safari! I actually saw a Beer Jug for $50!!!!!! Insane. Must be fun if you have kids maybe. Idk. Skip it as an adult.

8 highlights from the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and River Safari

The Singapore Zoo , Night Safari and River Safari need no introduction.

After all, they’re some of Singapore’s staple attractions for both tourists and locals alike. The Singapore Zoo has won countless awards (including TripAdvisor’s top 5 zoos in the world), and the Night Safari was the world’s first-ever nocturnal zoo.

You may have visited these places as a kid, and are looking to make good use of your SingapoRediscovers Vouchers to make a return trip and spend the day with family or friends.

Having visited all three attractions in the last few months, here’s what I thought were the most memorable experiences.

Singapore Zoo

Animal feedings

There’s a small cost of $5 to feed the animals, but it’s one of the best ways to get up close and personal with them. Do take note of the feeding timings so you can better plan your visit.

There are goat, white rhino, elephant, giant tortoise and giraffe feedings. I would highly recommend the giant tortoise feeding over at the Reptile Garden. Having such long life spans (averaging 80 to 120 years), these gentle ‘giants’ are some of the oldest residents at the zoo.

The feeding allows you really close contact - you can step into their enclosure, pet their necks and shells and even take selfies with the friendly creatures! Just be careful they don’t step on your feet, as a fully-grown tortoise can weigh up to 250kg.

Hand-feeding them the cherry tomatoes is great fun too. Like myself, the one I fed was a really messy eater.

I also tried out the giraffe feeding, though that was less interactive as you can’t actually pet them or step into their enclosure for safety reasons. We were given a cup of carrots to feed them, and they gulped down the food in one mouthful so you have to be really quick with pictures. I still enjoyed the experience, but the feeding was over really fast.

Hamadryas baboons

When I was young, the polar bear enclosure used to be my favourite. Now that the last polar bear Inuka is gone, my favourite animal exhibit has to be that of the Hamadryas baboons.

Located at the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia, the enclosure is fairly large and houses countless Hamadryas baboons along with a waterfall.

It's fascinating to see their social habits and characteristics too. The adult males are identified by their silvery mantle-like manes, and are double the size of females. The females are characterised by very prominent swollen red bottoms.

We saw some males grooming the females and also piggybacking them. Each male also has a clan of females, and even chases them and bite their necks if they stray too far. We’re lucky human males don’t exhibit the same behavior.

Whilst the baboons were the highlight, they weren't the only animals that I enjoyed seeing. The Asian elephants were a hot favourite, and there’s a sizeable seating area so you can take a break from walking around and simply observe these magnificent creatures.

Also, the delightful chimpanzees, whose exhibit resembles a jungle gym and high elements course. If you're lucky, you’ll spot them while they are particularly active and climbing up and down the multi-tiered structure.

It was thrilling to be so close to one of the orangutans too. He was sleeping soundly right next to the glass enclosure! The zoo also had a Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife activity where you get to meet them and 'dine' with them, which is currently suspended because of Covid. Do look out for it when it re-opens!

Rainforest Kidzworld

Even though this zone was designed for kids, I’m pretty sure the whole family will have a blast! Just like the animal feedings, you can really see the farmyard animals up close here.

The falabellas are particularly adorable, as well as the sociable goats. We even saw people feeding them leaves, though I’m pretty sure that isn’t actually permitted (you can pay to feed them actual food as part of the animal feedings) .

Unfortunately, some activities have been suspended due to social distancing measures, such as the pony rides, the falabella grooming and rabbit petting.

Night Safari

This is the very obvious highlight of the night safari - and for good reason. The iconic tram ride is complimentary, and trams come very frequently so we didn’t have to wait too long in queue.

I was quite disappointed that live tram commentary has been replaced by a recorded one though! Although it was still informative, it’s nice to have an actual tram guide who can build rapport with visitors and offer a more personal experience or insightful anecdotes regarding the animals.

The ride is around 35 to 40 minutes, and we took one of the first trams of the night at 7pm. I’d recommend that timing as there is still some daylight and you can better spot the animals.

Admittedly, some are really hard to see in the dark, even with each habitat being illuminated. Highlights were the Nile hippo, Asian lion and Malayan tapir. The friendly tapir is able to roam free, and we spotted it right next to our tram!

Walking trails

If you want more time to observe the animals, embark on the various walking trails after your tram ride.

Some of the trails cross paths with one another too, so you can cover all the ground easily. The fishing cat trail was particularly memorable. Whilst we didn’t get to see the fishing cat in action, we entered an indoor exhibit with the fascinating Malayan flying fox- which is actually a bat.

Another fascinating animal that was part of the trail was the Indian gharial. This endangered crocodile isn’t the man-eating kind. In fact, it consumes fish, and its jaws are so fragile that you could hold it together with a rubber band!

The east lodge trail is another must-go. The spotted hyena exhibit was particularly popular. They were running about and chasing each other, and you can also head to an elevated platform to watch them up close.

We also liked observing the sloth bears, with their unique sickle shape claws and cream-colored snout.

River Safari

Kai Kai and Jia Jia

These pandas are undeniably the star attraction of the River Safari. As such, we had to queue about 30 minutes to see them due to capacity restrictions in their exhibit. The queue really depends on luck and whether you’re visiting on a weekday or weekend.

Just a heads-up: whether or not you do spot these shy creatures is a matter of luck too. The don’t always like to come out of hiding.

Fortunately, we managed to spot Kai Kai in the large, air-conditioned exhibit. He was busy chowing down on biscuits and didn’t show his face at all, but I managed to snap a shot of him from a distance.

As for Jia Jia, she was sleeping in her cage - we saw her on CCTV camera having her afternoon nap.

It was interesting to read the fun facts about these pandas at the exhibit, like the fact that females are only fertile one to three days in a year. Jia Jia's hormone levels are regularly monitored in the lab as well to determine ovulation.

Amazon River Quest

The other star attraction that can’t be missed, designed to replicate a journey along the Amazon river.

Obviously, you can’t compare it to an actual boat ride on the Amazon, but it was fun nonetheless. The first “drop” into the waters was a small thrill too, though don’t expect it to be an adrenaline-inducing flume ride.

The relaxing boat ride is around 10 minutes, and we spotted animals like the jaguar, giant anteater and Caribbean flamingos.

The ride is chargeable at $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Manatees and catfish

It’s always fascinating to watch large sea creatures glide through the water, like the Mekong giant catfish. In fact, I’ve never seen such big fish before! Catfish in the enclosure weigh around 40 kilograms and those in the wild can weigh up to 300 kg!

The manatees are particularly adorable too - we loved watching them rolling over and over in the water. They’re also known as sea cows, due to the fact that they spend up to 8 hours a day feeding on aquatic vegetation.

General tips for visiting all three attractions

Get there at least 45 minutes early for shows or pre-book online. If you’re wondering why I didn’t include any shows in my highlights, it’s because I didn’t get to watch them! I was hoping to catch the Splash Safari show featuring the seals at 10:30am, but the queue was already pretty crazy at 10:15am and seats would have been filled by the time it got to us. Same goes for the Night Safari’s Creatures of the Night show. You can now book tickets in advance for Splash Safari, but Creatures of the Night tickets can’t be pre-booked online. If you want to catch a show, I’d advise arriving in the queue at least 45 minutes in advance.

Adjust your phone to night mode or get a good digital camera for taking pictures at the Night Safari. I didn’t do both of the above, and thus couldn’t capture many photos on my iPhone 7as it was too dark.

There are several eateries at all three parks. I ended up eating at KFC at the zoo and Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant at the Night Safari. The “restaurant” is more of an open-air food court though, with a safari-themed design. Whilst food is thankfully edible, there was nothing particularly memorable. I’d recommend the Indian food at Ulu Ulu as opposed to the beef teppanyaki though, which wasn’t particularly tender or flavourful.

If you’re up for it, all three parks can be visited in one day. We arrived at the zoo around 10am and spent about 4 hours there. Depending on your pace and how long you spend at each exhibit, the River Safari would take around 2 to 3 hours ( depending on the queue for visiting the pandas and the Amazon River Quest). The Night Safari, which we visited on a separate day, took us around 2 and half to three hours. If you don’t want to burn yourself out or are visiting with young kids, consider visiting the zoo and River Safari in one day, and the Night Safari on another.

To my best knowledge, you can’t currently show up and purchase tickets for the wildlife parks on the spot, due to capacity restrictions. You can book slots for all three parks online and select timings to visit. There are quite a number of promos for booking online, such as discounts for local residents or visits to more than one park.

Singapore Night Safari, Explore the Wild at Night and Unveil its Wonders

Night Safari Singapore is the world's first nocturnal zoo in Mandai, Singapore. When visiting Singapore, Night Safari is a must-see attraction. It attracts 1.3 million tourists annually.

The zoo is part of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, including the Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, and Bird Paradise. Night Safari Singapore is home to over 100 species and over 2,500 nocturnal animals, including Asian elephants, Malayan tigers, and many others. Visitors can enjoy the Creatures of the Night Show, which showcases nocturnal animals such as otters.

Night Safari Singapore offers its visitors a range of exciting activities. Here's a list:

The capital's residents are desperate, directly appealing to President Putin due to a perceived lack of alternate avenues for assistance. The absence of suitable heating functionality since winter commenced pushes them towards desperation with no relief in sight.

This seems improbable, but in Russia, it appears that anything can happen.

It remains uncertain if Vladimir Putin is actively addressing the heating crisis. Some experts suggest that Russia's heating oil reserves are depleting, which negatively affects residents' quality of life. Plagued by cold radiators and plummeting winter temperatures, these citizens have directly addressed their pleas to their head of state.

Man arrested, charged in connection to 74-year-old death at W. Houston senior facility, records say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An arrest has been made in connection to the fatal shooting of a 74-year-old retired school teacher at a senior living facility in west Houston, according to records.

The video above is from the initial report on April 15th.

Documents read that Clifton John Allen has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of Carol Webber on April 13.

During his probable cause court appearance Saturday afternoon, a prosecutor described Webber as Allen's "friend." They both lived at Treemont Senior Living in West Houston.

REPORT: 74-year-old shot to death in her senior living apartment, but management has yet to tell neighbor

According to the Houston Police Department, Webber was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on the floor of her apartment at 2:30 p.m.

Since the deadly shooting, police interviewed multiple witnesses, collected information that Webber left behind, and spoke to Allen, who they said gave conflicting statements in his alibi.

Authorities found that Webber transferred her will, retirement, and power of attorney to Allen before her death and was trying to get legal documents back from Allen.

"(Webber) had notified multiple individuals that (Allen) had become aggressive with her and that she was in fear of him," a prosecutor said in probable cause court. "On the evening of her murder, (Webber) requested help from an employee at the facility and said that she was in fear of him because he had threatened to kill her and had keys to her apartment."

Dee Bowers, a longtime friend of Webber's, was shocked to learn the news that she had been murdered. The two were friends for seven years but had not spoken since the fall of 2023. Before that, she said Webber had never brought Allen up to her.

Last year, Webber had a medical issue that Bowers said changed her. After that, she helped Webber move into Treemont.

Bowers said she finds it hard to believe that Webber would sign her will, retirement, and power of attorney to someone without someone else's suggestion.

"Carol being the person she is, it's very easy to take advantage of her," Bowers explained. "This person probably saw a target."

A magistrate in probable cause court said Allen had a lengthy violent criminal history, including an arrest for assault by drive-by shooting, domestic violence arrests, and a manslaughter conviction.

She called the prior arrests "concerning" in light of the allegations in the case.

Allen is due at Judge Brian Warren's court on Monday morning.
