WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Mexico Cruises Insider

Mexico is ready for you to explore at any time of year. In general, the weather is best between December and April — there's little rain, and the temperatures are very comfortable. The wet season starts in May and ends in October, while hurricane season (affecting mostly the Caribbean side) starts in June and runs until November.

When you travel to Mexico, one of the best ways to enjoy the country is by immersion. Try the local food, shop the local markets, and choose excursions that allow you to spend time getting to know a specific neighborhood, historic site or natural wonder.

Learn a few phrases in Spanish and speak to waiters, vendors, tour guides and everyday people. Ask about places to eat, the history or the music. Get out of your comfort zone and reach out to the people who know the country best — they can let you know where to go for the best price on that souvenir you're seeking or which beachside spot makes the best margarita.

Cruise to Mexico

Why go on a cruise to mexico.

Mexico cruises in 2024 offer a range of itineraries that allow you to visit multiple destinations such as Puerto Costa Maya , Cancun , Ensenada , Cozumel , and more. A Cancun cruise, Ensenada cruise, and Cozumel cruise allow you to sail the seas around Mexico and enjoy their crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and activities such as snorkeling, diving, or simply relaxing in the sun. A Carnival cruise to Mexico in 5 days is also a popular choice for those looking for a fun-filled vacation, while a 3-day cruise to Mexico is a fantastic option for those who have limited time but still want to get a taste of Mexico. Opt for 4-day cruises to Mexico from Florida in 2024 if you’re looking to escape the US and experience the rich culture of Mexico.

How to find cheap cruises to Mexico?

To find lower Mexico cruise prices on Expedia, simply sort your search results by price to put the most affordable options at the top of the list. You will be able to find some of the best deals for your 3-day cruise to Mexico from Los Angeles or a 3-day all-inclusive cruise to Mexico. The cruise company also matters: Celebrity Cruises offers a more premium luxury experience while Carnival Cruises keeps cruise tickets to Mexico more budget-friendly. Keep in mind that flexible dates can also help you secure more affordable prices for a 4 or 5-day cruise. If you can, book your trip for 2025 rather than splurging on a last-minute journey. But if you're looking to go on a cruise to Mexico in 2024, Expedia often has great Mexico cruise deals.

What are some of the best cruise lines to Mexico?

Several of the best cruise lines to Mexico are available on Expedia, including Carnival , Disney , and Celebrity , all of which offer great cruise vacations to Mexico with such features as world-class live entertainment, shows, and activities for kids aged from 3 to 17. These cruise lines offer Cancun cruises, Baja cruises, 4-day cruises from Mexico to Florida, cruises from San Francisco to Mexico, and even Puerto Vallarta cruises. You can choose from various cruise durations, such as a 3-day cruise to Mexico, a 4-day cruise to Mexico, or even a weekend cruise to Mexico. There are also different points of departure, such as a 5-day Mexico cruise from Long Beach or a 3-day cruise from San Diego. Additionally, you have the option to utilize search filters to display results only from specific cruise lines or even specific cruise ships that you're interested in.

How can I find good Mexico cruise deals?

To find Mexico cruise deals on Expedia, keep an eye out for the green discount marker on the search result situated above the price estimate. This marker will indicate the maximum discount available on the deal currently running for that booking. Whether you’re looking for a 3-day Mexico cruise all-inclusive or a 7-day cruise to Mexico, be sure to check the details of the offer to see what's included. Keep in mind as well that a 4-night cruise to Catalina and Ensenada will provide a richer experience compared to a 3-day cruise to Mexico that solely visits Ensenada.

What should I look out for when booking cruise tickets to Mexico?

Location is one of the most important things you should consider when planning your cruise to Mexico in 2024. If you prefer a more upscale Mexico cruise trip which stops at more diverse locations, go with a Riviera Mexico cruise ship. A cruise to Riviera Maya will allow you to visit sparkling Caribbean beaches, have fun at adventure parks deep in the jungle, and go diving on beautiful reefs. On the other hand, Baja Mexico cruises usually stop at fewer locations which are likely to be cheaper. Baja Mexico cruises feature beautiful beaches, stunning desert landscapes, and great scuba diving. Timing is another decision-making element when it comes to Mexico cruise ship prices, you have various options such as a 5-day day from Florida or a 3-day cruise from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas. Early fall is usually the low season when you can find discount cruises to Mexico. June to August is a highly popular period when many people opt for a cruise to Mexico, which can result in higher prices.

Where are the best places to go on a cruise to Mexico?

Mexico is home to some of the best cruise destinations, including Ensenada , Cancun , Cozumel, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta. Some longer 5 or 7-day cruises that travel to Mexico may include multiple stops, providing the opportunity to explore various locations along the enchanting Mexican coastline with its pristine beaches and welcoming shores. Riviera Maya cruises offer an abundance of destinations within close proximity, allowing for visits to numerous different locations. Cruises along the west coast of Mexico typically require longer travel distances between each stop, resulting in more time spent on the ship. You can take a cruise to Mexico from departure ports, such as a 3-day cruise to Mexico from Long Beach, or a 5-day cruise from Florida or San Francisco to Mexico .

When is the best time to go on a cruise in Mexico?

The optimal time for experiencing some of the finest cruises in Mexico is typically during the winter months, specifically from November to January. During this period, the crowds are generally smaller, allowing for a more intimate experience, and the weather remains warm and clear. However, December can be especially busy for a winter month due to the influx of holiday travelers. If you're planning a 7-day cruise in Mexico or a 5-day cruise, Expedia is on hand to help you find the options and itinerary to suit you.

How long does it take to go to Mexico by cruise ship?

If you travel from popular departure ports like New Orleans and Los Angeles , it will only take about a day or so to reach Mexico. For a longer journey, you could choose a 4-day cruise, a 5-day cruise or a 7-day cruise. Different cruise ships drive at different speeds, so your destination in Mexico also plays a role: a cruise to Puerto Vallarta from Los Angeles, for example, can take longer than a 2- or 3-night cruise to Mexico. If you have limited time, opt for a 3-day all-inclusive cruise.

What are some great luxury cruises to Mexico?

You'll find some of the best luxury cruises to Mexico with Carnival and Celebrity . Specifically, the Carnival Sunrise cruise to Mexico boasts several restaurants and bars, a state-of-the-art spa facility, and a pool on the deck complete with winding waterslides. If you're seeking the ultimate luxury experience, consider the Harmony of the Seas from Royal Caribbean for a 7-day cruise in 2024. This magnificent ship offers a variety of amenities including a spa and fitness center, a sports zone, a park area, a boardwalk section, and live entertainment, making your cruise to Mexico truly unforgettable.

What are some good all-inclusive cruises to Mexico?

Norwegian and Royal Caribbean offer 3 day all-inclusive cruises to Mexico. These cruises' all-inclusive offerings reflect some of the best of what Mexico has to offer, including authentic dining so you can expect to enjoy delicious Mexican cuisine even before you reach the shore. Just relax and let the cruise line plan everything for you: your room, food, and entertainment will have already been paid for and arranged before you get on board the boat.

What's a great family cruise to Mexico?

When booking a 4- or 5-day Mexico cruise vacation for the whole family, Disney and Carnival tend to offer some of the best options that ensure all ages can have fun on their cruise to Mexico. Disney cruises often feature special shows with classic Disney characters that both kids and adults know and love. Imagine seeing Donald Duck in his little sailor costume on your cruise! A lot of the entertainment on Disney cruises is specifically catered to children too, but there are separate adult areas if you're looking to unwind with a bit of quiet. Another good option is the Horizon ship by Carnival cruise, featuring several outdoor pools, a Dr. Seuss-themed water park, and an IMAX movie theater.

What are some of the best Mexico honeymoon cruises?

A luxurious cruise on the Queen Mary 2 or the MSC Seashore are just 2 examples of great honeymoon cruises to Mexico for a 7-day cruise or 5-day cruise in 2024. The Queen Mary 2 by Cunard Cruises is outfitted with numerous luxury amenities and fine dining experiences, along with attentive staff who are personally dedicated to helping you make those precious memories on your 3-day cruise to Cabo San Lucas or other dreamy destinations. Meanwhile, the MSC Seashore by MSC Cruises will let you and your partner enjoy the journey to Mexico with luxurious staterooms, a spa facility, and even an onboard casino.

Can I book a weekend cruise to Mexico?

You can find a weekend cruise by sorting your search results by duration. A weekend Mexico cruise vacation is possible as long as you depart from a port in the southern United States, such as Miami, and don't venture too far south. For example, you can consider a 3-day cruise to Mexico from Florida. A weekend cruise to Mexico will typically involve leaving on Friday, enjoying Saturday or the entire weekend in a destination like Cozumel, and then returning on Monday.

How do I book a cruise to Mexico on Expedia?

To book a 5-day cruise to Mexico or a 3-day cruise on Expedia, the best strategy is to take advantage of available deals and try different dates to find the best savings. You can use Expedia's convenient search tools to narrow down the results. Once you've found a cruise you're satisfied with, booking a cruise on Expedia is quick and easy.

Do I need a passport for a cruise trip to Mexico?

For a 3-day cruise from California or a 5-day cruise from Florida in 2024 to Mexico, you always need a passport to visit Mexico, unless you're embarking on a closed-loop cruise to Mexico. A closed-loop cruise begins and ends in an American port. If your cruise, for example, sets out from Galveston , sails to Tulum , and then returns to Galveston, that's a closed loop you won't need a passport for. It is, however, always advisable to bring a passport when visiting a foreign country in case the unexpected happens.

Can I cancel a cruise booking?

Yes, you can cancel your cruise booking through the My Trips page on your Expedia account or by contacting Expedia customer service. Keep in mind that every cruise line has a different cancellation policy, so your refund will depend on which cruise line you book with, how far in advance you cancel, and if your cruise line charges a cancellation fee.

Why should I book a cruise to Mexico with Expedia?

Whether you’re looking for a 4-day cruise to Mexico from Long Beach or a 7-day cruise from Florida, with Expedia's huge inventory and advanced search filters, it's easy to find and book a Mexico cruise in 2024. You can book cruises to places all over Mexico, from the adventure parks of the Riviera Maya to the beautiful coral reefs of Baja Mexico. Plus, One Key members may even earn points on their booking, so join for free if you haven't already.

About Mexico Cruises

Most cruises to Mexico stop by the region that the cruise industry calls the “Mexican Riviera,” so nicknamed for its colorful oceanfront towns and long stretches of golden, glistening coastline. Whether your cruise ports include Baja California, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, Cozumel or Ensenada, the destinations possibilities are endless.

Itineraries are split, naturally, by the two oceans. To experience the Gulf of Mexico on the east coast, join a cruise through the Caribbean and stop at Grand Cayman on your way to Costa Maya. The Mexican Riviera is compact enough for short journeys, with 3-night cruises available from Long Beach and San Diego that journey along Baja California. Other west coast departure ports such as Los Angeles , San Francisco , and Vancouver offer 4-, 5-, 7-, or 12+ night sailings to Mexico. A longer cruise to Mexico will give you more time in some of the best ports and may take you up into the Sea of Cortez too.

Mexico cruises offer a sunny getaway year-round, with August and September offering some of the best Mexico cruise deals, due to the hot weather.

Best Mexico Cruise Deals

Like the Caribbean, Mexico can be an affordable cruise destination – if you cruise at the right time and on the right line. Popular cruise ports in Mexico include Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. Because Carnival Cruise Line offers an abundance of Mexico itineraries, its rates tend to be some of the cheapest. However, you can also find deals on lines like Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises. Popular shore excursions on Mexico cruises include tours of ancient Mayan ruins, swimming in cenotes, parasailing, beach outings and more.

As far as timing goes, you can find some of the best Mexico cruise deals between May and August, with rates starting as low as $35 per person, per night for an inside cabin. You may also find some bargains between late summer and fall, but temperatures will be at their hottest during this time. Some popular cruise destinations in the Yucatan Peninsula and Gulf Coast may also be affected by hurricane season. Be sure to weigh the pros and cons if you are booking a trip for this time – especially between July or August and October, when storms are the most common in this region.

If you’re looking for a beautiful cruise destination to call your own, cruises to Cabo San Lucas should be at the top of your list. You’ll return home with spectacular vacation photos that get all the Likes! Cabo San Lucas makes its home on the Baja California peninsula, the second longest in the world, sitting pretty down at the south end. Tucked between golf courses and desert mountains, Cabo San Lucas straddles two oceans — the calm turquoise Sea of Cortez and the crashing blue Pacific. With 18 pristine miles of coastline connecting your port to colonial San José del Cabo, you get two seaside cities in one on a Cabo San Lucas cruise. But, along with water-based activities like fishing, paddling and swimming, you can also add action — or maximum relaxation — to your itinerary. Cruises to Cabo San Lucas offer a huge variety of things to do, from riding ATVs in the desert to sipping margaritas on the beach. Try one or try it all!

  • Paddle past the famous El Arco rock arch on a kayak.

The Best Cruises to Mexico for Every Traveler

Whether it's world-class diving, white sandy beaches, or Mayan ruins you’re after, a cruise to Mexico can get you there in comfort and style.

Set sail from the West Coast to experience the beaches and nightlife of Cabo San Lucas , stroll the boardwalk in Mazatlan, or dig your toes into the sand in Puerto Vallarta. For diving and Mayan ruins, opt to cruise Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Dive into the deep blue water in Cozumel, walk a beach free of high-rise hotels in Costa Maya, or walk in the footsteps of the ancient Mayans in Tulum .

Several major cruise lines serve these routes with decked-out ships that offer something for everyone. Sprawling pools, thumping dance clubs, and fresh margaritas are just the beginning.

This is the domain of large cruise ships, but there are a few smaller vessels—like American Queen Voyages’ Ocean Navigator —that cruise to Mexico .

Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line sail to Mexico from the West Coast year-round. Three Carnival ships—the Carnival Miracle , Carnival Panorama, and Carnival Residence — cruise to Mexico from Los Angeles and San Francisco. Norwegian Cruise Line sails to Mexico from California, Florida, and New Orleans.

Princess Cruises, Holland America, Disney Cruise Line, and Celebrity Cruises sail to Mexico seasonally. While Mexico is warm year-round, you’ll find the most pleasant temperatures—and some of the best prices— between November through February. Mexico’s rainy season is from May through November, but expect bursts of showers instead of washouts. Hurricane season is between June and November, and while hurricanes don't always make landfall, the rains they bring can put a damper on even the best-planned beach day.

Whatever it is you’re looking for, and whenever it is you’re looking to set sail, there’s a cruise to Mexico that’s sure to feel tailor-made for you.

Best short cruise to Mexico

In just three nights, Royal Caribbean's  Navigator of the Seas sails from Los Angeles to Ensenada, Mexico, and back.  The itinerary includes a full day at sea—plenty of time to take a few laps around the ship’s ice skating rink, spend a few hours at the spa, try out the longest water slide at sea and catch a show. Of course, you could just spend your entire sea day lounging around on the pool deck eating Johnny Rockets and sipping on colorful cocktails. If you’ve got a little bit more time, opt for a four-night itinerary. Royal Caribbean offers two four-night itineraries on the  Navigator of the Seas . One adds a stop at idyllic Catalina Island. The other spends additional time in Ensenada.

Best weeklong cruise to Mexico

There may be no better way to bliss out than by sailing the  Norwegian Bliss along the Mexican Riviera. Sail roundtrip from Los Angeles, stopping in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Ensenada, Mexico. Spend port days visiting tequila factories, wineries and endless sandy beaches. Or opt for an adventurous 4x4 ride, snorkeling, kayaking or an idyllic horseback ride. On board the ship, you’ll have your choice of 19 restaurants, 20 bars, and plenty of things to do. The  Norwegian Bliss made its debut in 2018, and its entertainment offerings include a two-level  racetrack , Broadway shows, laser tag, mini golf and a casino. The ship has a private 18 and over beach club and a spa with both a salt room and a snow room.

Best family cruise to Mexico

There is so much to do on board the  Carnival Radiance your family might not want to leave the ship on port days. The  Carnival Radiance has a water park, a ropes course, mini golf, sports courts, and a kids club that accommodates ages two to 17. There’s also a teen spa, video arcade and enough room to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball on board. With more than a dozen restaurants, there’s something for even the most discerning junior palate. There’s even a green eggs and ham breakfast to go with a Seuss at Sea experience inspired by the famous author’s books.

Cuadro 44 Restaurant Deck 6 Midship Portside.Star Breeze Windstar Cruises

Windstar Star Legend's Cuadro 44 Restaurant

Best small ship cruise to Mexico

You could cruise to Mexico on a mega-ship. Or you could opt for a calmer, quieter, more yacht-like experience on Windstar Cruises’  Star Legend . This all-suite yacht boasts cabins that are nearly 300 square feet. The ship is fresh off a major renovation with a new spa, pool, and fitness center. Every bathroom on board has gotten a makeover and comes stocked with L’Occitane toiletries. The  Star Legend is scheduled to set sail from Miami in the spring. Windstar's  Jungles and Jewels of the Central American Coast itinerary sails roundtrip from Miami, stoppings in Key West en route to Cozumel and Costa Maya. But Mexico is just the beginning. Windstar’s  Star Legend also calls on Belize City, Belize, and Roatan, Honduras, giving passengers plenty of chances to go on an unforgettable dive, immerse themselves in ancient ruins or simply soak up the sunshine.

Best cruise to the Yucatan Peninsula

Mega ships aren’t the only vessels that cruise to Mexico . American Queen Voyages’  Ocean Navigator is less than one-tenth of the size of the behemoth ships sailing the region. The ship can accommodate just over 200 passengers and feels more like a river cruise ship than an ocean-going vessel. Restaurant and bar choices are limited, but that might not matter much when you’re sipping margaritas and snacking on molletes at the beach. The  Ocean Navigator ’s Mexico itineraries visit seven ports in 10 days, giving passengers the chance to dive into Cozumel’s deep blue water, explore Chichen Itza’s Mayan ruins, and sip on margaritas in Cancun. This isn’t the kind of ship that parties all night, but that should make it easier to wake up for gorgeous sunrises. The price of this all-inclusive cruise includes food, drinks, room service, Wi-Fi, pre-paid gratuities, port fees, and taxes.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises Seven Seas Grandeur

Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Grandeur

Best luxury cruise to Mexico

There may be few more luxurious ways to arrive in Cabo San Lucas than on board Regent’s new  Seven Seas Grandeur . The cruise line's  Magic on the Mexican Riviera itinerary is scheduled to sail round trip from Los Angeles in late 2024, calling on ports including Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, and Puerto Vallarta. The 10-night journey includes three luxurious days of cruising the Pacific Ocean. Spend your sea days lounging around your spacious suite, playing bocce ball or shuffleboard or relaxing by the pool bar. The ship's suites range in size from 307 to 4,443 square feet. Each comes with a private balcony, and there may be no better place on board to enjoy your morning coffee with a view. Cruise fares on Regent Seven Seas include roundtrip business class intercontinental flights, unlimited shore excursions, unlimited beverages, specialty restaurants, and gratuities.

Best cruise to the Mexican Riviera

If you’re looking to touch grass at sea and sample the best of the Mexican Riviera, the  Celebrity Solstice is for you. This ship is home to a half acre of real green grass and sails from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta. This is a ship with a cool vibe, a sophisticated feel, and lots of fun things to do on board. Try a cocktail-making class or a wine-blending class. Or catch a glass-blowing show on the grass. The ship is also home to more than 200 solar panels and generates some of its own electricity.

Where do cruises go in Mexico?

  • Cabo San Lucas : Visit the iconic natural landmark El Arco, “The Arch,” or whale-watch during the winter months. Cabo San Lucas is also famous for long stretches of sand like Lover’s Beach, along with legendary beachfront clubs where you can dance or sip a cold drink.
  • Puerto Vallarta: This sun-soaked city is on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, making it a popular trip from San Diego or Los Angeles . Puerto Vallarta is an epic place to experience Mexican sun and surf. Snorkel offshore and steal a glimpse of massive manta rays, or relax on the sand at Los Muertos Beach.
  • Mexican Riviera: Comprising roughly twenty cities along the western coast of Mexico, the Mexican Riviera is one of the best cruise destinations around. Port in Ensenada and explore the area’s wine region, stop in Zihuatanejo to tour a working fishing village, or tour a breathtaking cathedral in Mazatlán.

How much are cruises to Mexico?

Finding a great deal on your next cruise to Mexico will depend on a few factors:

  • Season: Fall and winter are often the cheapest times to book Mexican cruises, and the weather is still quite warm throughout autumn. Summer is the busiest, and most expensive, time of year for Mexico cruises .
  • Cruise line: Save your dollars and look for a budget-friendly cruise that offers a comfortable cabin and basic food and beverages. You can also splurge on a real luxury liner, which includes formal dinner and elaborate off-site excursions, like zip-lining through the jungle or visiting Teotihuacan.
  • Ports of call:  Where does your ship dock? How far are you traveling? If you’re departing from the West Coast and making stops at nearby ports like Catalina Island and Rosarito, chances are that your cruise will be less expensive than if you’re going somewhere like Cabo San Lucas, which is home to numerous luxury resorts and glitzy nightlife.

Cabo Cruises – Cabo San Lucas Getaway

Beaches by day and celebrations by night on cruises to cabo.

Say hello to sunny beaches and adventure-filled exploration on a Cabo cruise with Princess®. Dive below the water’s surface to see colorful marine life, or zipline through the canyons to take in the views from above. During an overnight stay in Cabo, shop for artisan crafts by day, then dine beachside by night. With convenient roundtrip travel from Los Angeles, relaxation and adventure is never too far away.

Cruise to Cabo San Lucas port

Located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, Cabo is surrounded by clear waters, sun-kissed beaches and the majestic rock formation, El Arco. While it’s one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, El Arco is also a haven for sea lions. On a Cabo cruise, sail by catamaran under the famous arch to see these wildlife, and enjoy an afternoon relaxing on the secluded shores of Lover’s Beach.

What to Do on a Cruise to Cabo

On a Cabo cruise with Princess, bring your wildest vacation dreams to life.

Medano Beach

Deep sea fishing, san jose del cabo.

No cruise to Cabo is complete without a trip to El Arco. Separating the Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Cortez, this landmark is more than just a rock formation, it’s an emblem of the Baja Peninsula. Travel past El Arco on board a catamaran and look for the sea lions that play nearby. Then make your way to Lover’s Beach and relish in relaxation as you unwind shoreside.

As one of the most popular beaches in Cabo, Medano Beach is an adventurer’s playground. Relax on the golden shores, kayak with loved ones or set out on a parasailing expedition, where you can enjoy views of the shore from above. With plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, Medano Beach is the perfect outing for the entire family during your Cabo cruise.

Reel in endless treasures and memories during your Mexico cruise to Cabo. From marlin and swordfish to tuna and grouper, these waters are home to a wide variety of marine life, making it one of the finest sportfishing destinations in the world. With a local fisherman as your guide, embark on a deep-sea exploration and cast your rod into adventure.

Teeming with charm and character, San Jose del Cabo invites you to step back in time as you tour its colorful streets. With preserved 18th-century architecture, the city still holds true to its Spanish colonial personality. On a Mexico cruise to Cabo, enjoy a scenic car ride from the port to this historical town. Wander along La Plaza, stroll through art galleries and visit the San Jose del Cabo Church.

Cabo excursions

Our shore excursions redefine cruise vacations. Board a pirate ship and sail along the coast to learn about the Riviera’s rich history. Snorkel through the turquoise waters alongside your guide, who can bring you up close to coral reefs and colorful marine life. Or horseback ride along the sun-kissed shores while admiring the beauty and wildlife around you. See the city by land and sea on a cruise to Cabo with Princess.

More ashore

Enjoy every second in Cabo with More Ashore overnight stays. On our 5-day Cabo San Lucas cruise getaways, enjoy two full days in Mexico’s resort city. Sip on a cocktail while watching the sun set over the ocean. Dance the night away in one of the bustling bars. Or taste Mexican street-food — including smoked fish, tacos and chicken tamales — at any of the city’s restaurants.

Ships on this itinerary

Our Princess fleet includes ships that offer a multitude of amenities and feature the innovative MedallionClass™ experience. From a balcony stateroom, take in the sights and sounds of the colorful cultures ashore before enjoying the “sabor” of local cuisine in one of our many eateries during your Cabo San Lucas cruise.

Mariachi and margaritas

Sip, savor and sway to the music with onboard activities that give you a taste of Mexican tradition. Sample tequila while learning about the drink’s history from a local expert, and indulge your taste buds with tacos and fajitas. Or let loose with your loved ones during a mariachi performance, and dance to the lively tune of violins and guitars. On a cruise to Mexico with Princess, activities lie around every corner.

Every reason to celebrate

On select sailings in October and November, discover the region’s heritage with our Mexican Fiesta. Celebrate the Day of the Dead, a holiday to commemorate loved ones who have passed. From face-painting to Aztec flower-making, there are activities for the whole family on a cruise to Mexico. Learn a traditional dance, decorate marzipan skulls and make a skeleton out of pasta. Or watch dancers perform ‘The Procession of the Dead.’

Mexican and Spanish Cuisine

Famous for a reason

Recognized by UNESCO for its cultural heritage and preservation of culinary technique, Mexican and Spanish cuisine is a big part of the region’s culture. Sample the bold flavors and creative combinations for yourself on a cruise to Mexico with Princess. In many of our dining rooms, enjoy Mexican-themed dishes — like ceviche, fajitas and coconut cocadas — for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Sargassum/Seaweed Advisory

Sargassum is a free-floating seaweed that is especially prolific in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. While beneficial to ocean life, these large free-floating seaweed mats often wash up on beaches. The amount of seaweed on the beaches fluctuates based on the time of year and ocean currents. While resorts do their best to maintain the beaches for their guests, you may experience some inconvenience during your stay.

10 Best All-inclusive Resorts for Families in Mexico

These top all-inclusive resorts in Mexico were designed with the entire family in mind.

all inclusive cruise mexico

Peter A Panopoulos Diaz / Paradisus Cancun

Mexico is one of the most popular destinations in the world for family getaways, thanks to its wealth of sandy beaches, warm water, and a dizzying array of activities. It's also one of the easiest countries to access from anywhere in the United States. From Los Cabos to Puerto Vallarta and the Mexican Caribbean, most families in the United States can be somewhere on the ground in Mexico in four hours or less — a significant plus when the entire brood is in tow.

Finding a family-friendly, all-inclusive resort in Mexico is easy, but choosing the right one gets a bit more complicated. That's because Mexico is genuinely overflowing with fabulous all-inclusive, family-friendly resorts. From the Baja Peninsula's rugged desert landscape to the Mexican Caribbean's gentle turquoise waters, families looking to get away together on a hassle-free beach vacation will be spoiled for choice.

Our picks for the best all-inclusive, family-friendly resorts in Mexico are a combination of Travel & Leisure award winners and editor-loved properties. They are known for their standout service, gorgeous design, location, and, of course, their kid-friendly offerings. Discover our picks for the best all-inclusive, family-friendly resorts in Mexico.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya

Grand Velas Resorts

Also available to book at Hotels.com

This all-suite hotel has a stunning 1,000-foot stretch of white sand beach.

There are many activities for kids and teens, but not as many evening activities for adults.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is among the most sophisticated in the Mexican Caribbean if not all of Mexico. But for a resort with such elevated style and class, it also happens to be one of the best all-inclusive resorts for families in Mexico and a 2023 World’s Best Awards winner.

The 491-suite resort sits between 80 acres of mangrove forest and a powdery, soft white-sand beach. Suites are spread out across three buildings (two of which are family-friendly), and each building acts like a mini hotel within a hotel, with separate pools, gyms, and restaurants. Families will feel right at home in the Ambassador and Grand Class sections, which have the largest pools and several different restaurants. The Ambassador building is also the closest to the beach. Both buildings, however, have kids' clubs and many connecting rooms. Most restaurants have kid-friendly sections on the menus, as well. This is undoubtedly one of the country's most luxurious and family-friendly all-inclusive resorts.

The Details:

  • Distance to Cancun airport: 33 miles
  • Facilities for Families: Kid’s Club, Teen’s Club, and Baby Concierge
  • Gratuities: Yes
  • Rates: Start at $1,315

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit

Also available to book at Expedia.com

A sprawling spa offers 20 treatment rooms and hydrotherapy facilities.

The resort can often be fully booked and crowded.

If an all-inclusive resort can achieve Grande Dame status, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit has made the cut. One of the icons of the Riviera Nayarit coastline and another World’s Best Award winner , Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit has set the bar on a luxury all-inclusive resort experience.

The 265-room resort features all suites, each with a balcony, ocean views, and plenty of sun-drenched space. The resort's focal point is its central infinity pool, which tiers down three levels before spilling out to a spectacular beach — one of the best in the Bay of Banderas. Like its Riviera Maya counterpart, the facilities for families are fabulous here. Kids and teens have separate clubs, while a baby concierge helps outfit parents with everything from strollers to bassinets. Six restaurants serve everything from casual beach food to fine dining French, Italian, Mexican, and Pan-Asian. The 20-treatment room spa is a posh playground for adults with plunge pools, hydrotherapy, and dozens of holistic treatments.

  • Distance to Puerto Vallarta airport: 7 miles
  • Wi-Fi: Included
  • Facilities for Families: Kid’s Club, Teen’s Club, Baby Concierge
  • Gratuities: Included
  • Rates: Start at $909

Hotel Xcaret Mexico

A huge selection of activities, restaurants, and airport transfers are included in the room rate.

It is one of the largest resorts in the Riviera Maya.

Few family-friendly all-inclusive resorts do it as well as Hotel Xcaret Mexico. That's likely why this resort topped our World's Best list for 2023. The massive upscale, family-friendly resort is one of the largest in the area, with 900 gorgeously designed rooms. But for a resort of this scale, one of the things that struck me most is how boutique it can still feel — maybe that's because it has so many different places for guests to hang out in or to disappear so that no area ever feels overcrowded.

The sprawling grounds are designed to look almost prehistoric, with stony-faced facades, thick tropical foliage, and even a denote-inspired river surrounded by canyon walls on either side. (This serene spot is where you'll find the luxe spa, by the way.) Ten restaurants, eight bars, and a kids' club round out the amenities. But perhaps the best perk for families is that the resort offers unlimited, all-inclusive access to any of the Grupo Xcaret theme parks — transportation included. Zip-lining, ATV tours, themed shows, and water parks are all part of the package, and families can go as many times as they want during their stay.

  • Distance to Cancun airport: 41 miles
  • Facilities for Families: A kids’ club and unlimited access to all Grupo Xcaret parks included in the room rate
  • Rates: Start at $900

Grand Velas Los Cabos

All rooms offer ocean views and private terraces.

The beach here is not swimmable, which is common for Los Cabos.

Los Cabos leaves travelers positively spinning when it comes to choosing high-end resorts. But Grand Velas Los Cabos has the market cornered for all-inclusive, luxe resorts for families. It also earned a spot on our World’s Best Awards list in 2023.

The beachfront, classy hotel exudes understated elegance at every turn, but with plenty of kid-friendly amenities, it is anything but stuffy. Rooms are oversized and modern but cozy and relaxed, with ocean and pool views from all the balconies. Many rooms even come with private plunge pools. Grand Velas aficionados will recognize signature restaurant concepts Frida, Lucca, and Piaf, but signatures to the resort are Velas 10 and Cocina del Autor. A decked-out kids club features everything from Wii and Xbox to activities like jewelry-making and treasure hunts. Teens have a separate, sleeker space with pool tables, air hockey, a dance floor, and its own cafeteria. Adults can check into the spacious spa or lounge at the central multi-level pool deck.

  • Distance to San Jose del Cabo airport: 20 miles
  • Facilities for Families: Kid’s Club and Teen’s Club
  • Rates: Start at $1,552

Mahekal Beach Resort

This beachfront resort is within walking distance of Playa del Carmen’s legendary Fifth Avenue.

Rooms do not have televisions.

A stretch of fluffy, white sand and rows of palapa-topped bungalows shrouded by shady groves of palm trees will have you forgetting that you're at a resort smack in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen. Mahekal Beach Resort, forever one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and a World’s Best winner in 2023, offers guests the best of both worlds. It enjoys one of the most beautiful beaches in Playa del Carmen but is also steps from the buzzy, energetic Quinta Avenida, lined with fabulous restaurants, bars, and entertainment. Families love this resort for the prime beachfront location, boho-chic beachfront bungalows, the family-friendly pool, and proximity to downtown attractions.

  • Distance to Cancun airport: 35 miles
  • Facilities for Families: Ping pong, pool, ceramic painting, and a family-friendly pool
  • Rates: Start at $543 for all-inclusive

Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa Puerto Vallarta

Garza Blanca Preserve Resort

This resort has one of the best locations in Puerto Vallarta with the most stunning views of the Bahia de Banderas.

Guests of neighboring adults-only Hotel Mousai can use the facilities at Garza Blanca, but not the other way around.

I rarely advocate going to Puerto Vallarta and staying in an all-inclusive resort, but I will happily make the exception for Garza Blanca Preserve. I love this resort for families because of its spectacular location, generously sized rooms, and many adventure-based activities.

Puerto Vallarta and the Bay of Banderas are some of the best destinations for nature lovers and active travelers, and Garza Blanca Preserve puts families at the doorstep of all the action. Each of the 165 rooms at the resort spoils guests with the prettiest ocean views, plus the lush, jungle-covered mountains of the Sierra Madre. Three pools are on the property: two at the beach and one in the middle section between Garza Blanca and its adults-only sister resort, Hotel Mousai. In front of the resort is a small, white sand beach, which allows guests to launch kayaks directly from the shoreline and explore the coves and natural landmarks surrounding the resort. Hiking trails abound in the area, and the hotel staff is on hand to help point you in the right direction.

The resort does not have a dedicated kids club, but families who love spending time together with plenty of onsite things to do will feel right at home here. A new shopping village recently opened between Garza Blanca and Hotel Mousai, featuring a handful of locally sourced boutiques, a vintage-inspired carousel, and several restaurants.

  • Distance to Puerto Vallarta airport: 10 miles
  • Facilities for Families: Kid’s Club
  • Rates: Start at $992

Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa

Palladium Group

This beachfront resort offers something for everyone in the family, including a kid's pool, an impressive spa, and a beautiful stretch of sand.

The size of the resort means a lot of walking to get around.

Just 30 minutes north of the busy Cancun Hotel Zone puts travelers in a quieter, more secluded part of the Mexican Caribbean: the idyllic, bleached beaches of Costa Mujeres. Here, the Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres is a sprawling resort that will entertain families at every turn.

The 670-suite resort has 10 restaurants, 19 bars, a palatial spa, and lots of activities for kids. While the property is quite large, it has a whimsical design with man-made canals where boats ferry guests around. Of course, you can always walk or take a golf cart to get from place to place. The best option for families here is to book the Family Selection suites, which operate like a hotel within a hotel and are geared toward kids.

Unique amenities include access to a fun zone with video games, cooking classes, arts and crafts, a personalized mini-bar selection, and a special milk-and-cookies service before bedtime. Adults who are part of Family Selection will have access to the more exclusive restaurants at the next-door sister resort, TRS Coral Hotel.

  • Distance to Cancun airport: 21 miles
  • Facilities for Families: A Family Selection option that includes exclusive VIP services just for families
  • Rates: Start at $912

Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos

Costea Photography / Hard Rock Hotels

Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos offers a huge array of options and activities for families.

The beach here is not suitable for swimming.

Hard Rock has quite a few hotels across Mexico — all of which beckon travelers to unleash their inner rockstar. However, their Los Cabos resort turned a few heads when it opened in 2019. The 639-room resort glows like a neon-lit oasis surrounded by the stark desert beauty of the Baja Peninsula. Directly facing the resort is the crashing Pacific, which, while not safe for swimming, adds another level of drama to the scene and a booming soundtrack.

Guests may not be able to swim in the ocean (which is typical for Cabo), but Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos makes up for it with its impressive pools — five of them, including water slides and swim-up bars. While adults browse the eight dining options or get a signature massage at the Rock Spa, kids will kick back at the Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club, Teens Club, or even the on-site bowling alley. Of course, the Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos guests can expect the same glitzy rock star memorabilia, music-themed activities, and rooms with outdoor hydro spa soaking tubs.

  • Distance to San Jose del Cabo airport: 35 miles
  • Facilities for Families: Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club, Teens Club, Music Lab, Bowling Alley
  • Rates: Start at $626

Paradisus Cancun

Also available to book at Tripadvisor.com

A dedicated family concierge can help to upgrade your stay with perks and amenities.

Rooms could use a refresh.

It's hard to miss Paradisus Cancun while driving down Cancun's Hotel Zone. It's the collection of five gleaming white pyramids that overlook a stunning stretch of beach. Fortunately, the hotel holds your attention well past its dramatic architecture. The 525-room Paradisus Cancun is a luxury all-inclusive resort on one of the best beach fronts in Cancun. While rooms could use a refresh, they are spacious, offering ocean or lagoon views.

Amenities are overwhelming, from many restaurants and bars to the beach, a massive pool, a nine-hole golf course, and a YHI Spa. But families are at a real advantage here, thanks to the Family Concierge services that can be booked to elevate a stay with additional in-room amenities and family-friendly activities. Guests can communicate with their Family Concierge to assist with things throughout the day, whether to guarantee bookings at preferred restaurants or help schedule activities and day trips. Kids are gifted with special beach kits, kid-size bathrobes and slippers, special bathroom amenities, milk and cookies at turn-down, and children's beverages in the minibar. Kids can even request a PlayStation in the room.

  • Distance to Cancun airport: 12 miles
  • Facilities for Families: Family Concierge, Kids amenities and activities program
  • Rates: Start at $567

Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto by Danzante Bay

This under-the-radar all-inclusive resort has one of the most stunning locations on Mexico’s Sea of Cortez.

Unless you can fly into the Loreto airport, it is a very far drive from Los Cabos.

It's always a surprise to me that Loreto, Baja California Sur, is not busier than it is. It has an international airport, after all. But among those who love this sleepy town along the coast of the Sea of Cortez, no one is complaining. Loreto is one of those special places that you hope stays as perfect as it is forever, with sandy streets, a laid-back vibe, and prime real estate overlooking the crystalline waters of the Sea of Cortez.

About six hours north of Cabo San Lucas, you won't find strings of hotels and resorts here. But you will find one in particular that is the jewel in the crown: Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto. Shielded by towering mountains on one side and overlooking the spectacular island-strewn Danzante Bay on the other, this gorgeous hotel sits on nearly 4,500 acres of natural beauty, including secluded Capri-like coves, pristine beaches, five pools, a sprawling 39,000-square-foot spa, and an 18-hole golf course designed by Rees Jones. A $42 million investment in 2022 saw the revamp of 338 suites and the addition of a new wing with 158 new rooms.

Families love this resort for the sheer volume of things to do, from snorkeling or kayaking right offshore to the Loreto Bay National Marine Park to a lengthy list of activities designed exclusively for kids — think kids' yoga, pool games, movie time, nature walks, dance lessons, and even Spanish lessons for kids. Theme nights at the resort are fun for the whole family, with live performances of family-favorite musicals and Mexican-themed fiestas.

  • Distance to airport: 25 miles from Loreto International Airport; 317 miles from Los Cabos
  • Wi-Fi: Free in the common areas
  • Facilities for Families: Dedicated kids activities, water sports, family-friendly shows and theme nights
  • Gratuities: Not included
  • Rates: Start at $714

Know Before You Go

Consider the season.

Mexico is open for business year-round, but some times are better to visit than others. Optimal weather in the beach destinations is usually November through April. The weather turns scorching and humid around July through August. September and October are often hurricane season, and you may also have to consider sargassum season in Cancun, which is April through October.

Amenities sometimes outweigh location

A beachfront hotel is lovely, but sometimes Mother Nature has another plan. Most beaches in Los Cabos, for example, are unsafe for swimming. If you visit Cancun during sargassum season, the beach could be messy with seaweed. Picking a resort chock-full of amenities and a gorgeous pool scene will ensure everyone finds something to do.

Beware of the time share

Many hotels and resorts in Mexico also have timeshare desks on property, with salespeople on staff who look to recruit new timeshare holders. If buying a timeshare is not on your agenda, then it's okay to state you are not interested. Salespeople can be notoriously aggressive, and it is OK to firmly but respectfully say no.

How We Chose These Hotels

With hundreds of family-friendly all-inclusive resorts across Mexico, choosing the best can be challenging. Several hotels made this list because they've earned a spot in our annual World's Best awards, in which hundreds of thousands of T+L readers vote on their favorite hotels across the globe.

In addition to these award-winning properties, author Meagan Drillinger contributed her expertise. She has spent 15 years covering Mexico from coast to coast and has personally visited hundreds of resorts nationwide. Her selections focused on the quality of guest experience, as well as the design of the resort, thoughtful touches, and family-friendly services and amenities. Drillinger has reviewed hundreds of hotels in Mexico and around the world in her time as a travel writer.

And as with all hotel roundups, editors ensure all hotel recommendations we make align with our core T+L Hotel Values .
