No sé puede conocer Granada sin visitar su corazón, es decir, el barrio del Albaicín. Situado en una colina frente a la Alhambra el barrio es un magnífico mirador para poder apreciar la fortaleza roja desde cualquiera de sus ángulos. Su entramado laberíntico y sinuoso responde a su antepasado musulmán combinando las típicas construcciones árabes, de impoluto encalado blanco, con torreones renacentistas. Camina sus calles e impregnate del olor del azahar y el jazmín procedente de sus tradicionales cármenes, conoce las plazas más bulliciosas del barrio donde tradición y modernidad se funden y déjate llevar por el duende que recorre las calles de tan bello barrio.

Justo al lado del Albaicín nos encontramos con el valle de Valparaíso, enclave natural del barrio del Sacromonte. El flamenco y el arte inundan cada uno de sus rincones, las cuevas de la colina se convierten en tablados flamencos y las guitarras llevan el compás de este singular barrio.

Description of the Free Tour

In this Free Tour you will visit  the two most important neighborhoods of Granada: the Albaicín and the Sacromonte. . Both, very rich in terms of heritage and culture, were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984.

The Albaicín is the neighborhood with the most history in Granada.  You will walk through its narrow cobbled streets and the Cármenes, unique houses in the world as a result of the  union of two cultures: Arab and Christian.  You will also get to know the Mudejar churches ,  the cisterns and the Mirador de San Nicolás,  where you can contemplate  some of the best views in the world.  They will also enter the courtyard of the New Mosque, inaugurated in 2003, where they will be able to soak up the Muslim culture and its traditions.

After the Albaicín they will go through Sacromonte,   a gypsy neighborhood famous for its cave houses.  These buildings, unique in the world, have their own personality like the rest of the neighborhood.  In the Sacromonte  they will be transported to another era, in a reference place for flamenco and the gypsy zambra. All this while contemplating the entire city of Granada and the Alhambra.

We'll meet in the  Plaza de Isabel La Católica square  in the center of Granada and from there we'll walk towards the  Albaicin . This area is considered to be one of the most beautiful, charming, and historical spots in the city, and it won't take you long to realize why!

The Albaicin was home to the first civilizations in the region:  Iberians, Phoenicians, Greeks,  Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, and Arabs  inhabited the neighborhood until it was eventually claimed by the Christians.

As we walk along its winding, cobblestoned streets, admiring its fountains and monuments, you'll understand why, in 1984 alongside the Alhambra, it was named as a  UNESCO World Heritage Site . 

We'll then make our way to the  Sacromonte . This neighborhood is known world-over for its  caves,  gypsy culture, and its  flamenco in the most authentic form .

Sacromonte is a traditional neighbourhood in the city of Granada. It was once home to a significant gypsy population and has been popularised by the film "Flamenco". This neighbourhood is especially popular with tourists planning to visit the Alhambra Palace. It is worth mentioning that there are also some gypsy families still living there today. Tourists can find many souvenir shops and restaurants in this area or just take a stroll to enjoy the views of the Alhambra and other monuments. The best way to visit Sacromonte is to do so with the company of a professional guide on a free tour like the ones we offer here at GuruWalk. The Sacromonte quarter has been declared a National Monument by the Spanish government due to its cultural heritage and religious significance. The Sacromonte quarter is located at the northern end of the historic quarter of Granada. Description of the Free Tour

If you travel to Granada, this Free Tour is one of the essential activities along with the visit to the Alhambra. With a tour that will allow you to get to know the city much better and more specifically two neighborhoods declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984: Albaicín and Sacromonte.

The Albaicín is the neighborhood with the most history in Granada. You will walk through its narrow cobbled streets and see some of the most spectacular Cármenes (typical Nasrid housing), the result of the union of two cultures: Arab and Christian. You will also visit the Mudejar churches, the cisterns and the Mirador de San Nicolás, which will give you spectacular views.

After the Albaicín they will visit Sacromonte, a gypsy neighborhood famous for its cave houses. Its streets will give you spectacular views of Granada and the Alhambra. You will be transported to another era, in a reference place for flamenco and gypsy zambra. They will also have the opportunity to learn what a cave house is like, its peculiarities and the reasons why no two are alike.
