Growing up, my mom implemented just two major rules: no motorcycles and no tattoos. Until the age of 29, I had obeyed both of these boundaries, but the motorcycle one seemed like a deal-breaker at this point. After all, I had just landed in Vietnam, and as Bourdain famously said, the only way to experience Hanoi is on a scooter.

While I was going to Saigon, not Hanoi, I felt that his point was still valid. Regardless, whenever I asked anyone for suggestions on what a tourist should do while there, one thing came up again and again: XO Tours , a motorbike tour through the city involving stops for street food along the way.

But as my trip approached, my itinerary was sparse, and I became increasingly nervous. How would I eat what locals eat? Sure, I’d be getting pho and banh mi, but where were the best snails, and bottom line, could someone please show me foods that I never knew existed? XO Tours turned out to be my ticket to all of that and more.

I felt that familiar rush of excitement the moment my guide, a young woman named Han, greeted me with a wave outside my hotel, the Ramada Encore by Wyndham in District One . She told me to get on the back of her white Vespa, and as we cannonballed through traffic, I held onto the back for dear life but couldn’t help grinning. It seemed like being on a scooter in the city unlocked a whole other dimension (and this may be true in all cities, though I haven’t tried scootering them all yet). I was able to appreciate the sights — whole families piled on scooters, packages dangling dangerously from the back, helmet fashion, and even dogs balancing by their owners' feet.

Huy Nguyen / Getty Images

It started out with soup, importantly, not pho. Instead, we had Bún Bò Huế. The bowl was massive, and even though we had at least three more food stops, I slurped down the entire mixture of spicy rice noodles and sliced beef, savoring each refreshing bite as the added lemongrass hit my tastebuds.

Before I could properly wipe my mouth, we sped off again, this time to a market in Chinatown, one of the largest wet markets in the country. Everything was out on the street, there were carts filled with fruits, blankets covered with fish, and live animals being sold to be slaughtered. Our next stop was appropriately for a barbecue.

Tableside, we grilled up goat breast while the very same goat hung from the rafters at the end of our table, being picked apart by the in-restaurant butcher. This was, I was told, to prove that it was a goat (a more expensive animal) and not a pig. Dipped in a garlic sauce, the goat tasted more or less like beef, and the spring onions and peanuts we gobbled down in between waiting for pieces to come off the charcoal paired perfectly with the (unlimited) beer.

Next was a seafood stop, where we saw scallops shucked and then grilled before being smothered in nuts and sizzling scallion oil. Crab legs were cracked open at the table, and there was even an embryonic duck egg, which I was instructed to eat like a soft-boiled egg, cracking it at the top, then scooping out the innards. “I don’t look at it when I eat it,” my guide said, but I couldn’t help but stare.

Filipe Lopes / Getty Images

Through it all, I white-knuckled the back of the scooter around twists and turns, roundabouts and alleyways, as we sped past neon signs and billows of smoke from carts filled with delicacies. There was, ever so thankfully, unlimited beer (included), which I slugged in order to keep up with the beads of sweat dripping from my chin to my thighs, thanks to the combination of the 100% humidity and my full belly.

Altogether, the tour was a magical one. It didn’t even really feel like a tour. Maybe all tours should be on the backs of scooters. And if you’re still worried about my mom, don’t be. I sent her a video of me on the scooter with a text that read, “Don’t worry, I’m wearing a helmet.”

Discovering Ho Chi Minh City by Motorbike

I was apprehensive when we pushed the ‘Book Now’ button. I hadn’t even been on a motorbike before, and here I was signing up to sit on the back of a stranger’s bike as we zipped through one of Vietnam’s busiest cities. Is that even sane? Maybe yes, maybe no, but as it turns out, exploring Saigon’s food scene by motorbike with XO Tours is pretty much the most fun food tour you’ll ever go on in your life. Their reviews speak for themselves and give uncertain guests (like me!) the confidence to book. Add to the fact that it’s a female operated business, and I was absolutely sold. Here’s how it works: visitors sign up for the tour – $78 for a tour that lastly roughly 5 hours and includes 11 dishes over 5 spots – and get matched with a female tour guide for the night.

Plus, experiencing a night on a motorbike is kind of a must in a city that’s widely considered the world’s capital of motorbikes. In a city of around 9 million people, there are roughly 7.5 million bikes. Why not get a quick taste of the city’s main mode of transportation?

What to Expect

Saigon Food Tour by Motorbike with XO Tours

I’m about the size of an average Vietnamese woman, but if you’re at all concerned about being too big to have a petite woman take the reigns, don’t fret. My husband, who was roughly twice the size of his driver, had zero issues. These ladies have been riding motorbikes their entire lives and go through a pretty rigorous weeding-out process to make the cut. Driving is part of the equation, yes, but sparkling personalities and great English skills are clearly the other part.

Both of our guides – and all of the ladies we encountered – spoke perfect English and were so  fun and bubbly. Your guide is more than just a driver; she’s really your best friend for the night. Ngoc and Hong, Scott’s and my drivers (respectively) picked us up at the Le Meridien Saigon right on our home turf and we set off on our adventure. I had  never  been on a motorbike in my life but it only took a couple of minutes to get comfortable with the balance, the flow, and the other scooters whizzing past. By the time we arrived at the first stop, I was already having a blast. Surely we should own a motorbike at home, right? These things are way too fun to not be my primary mode of transportation.

During each leg of our journey, Hong provided insight on what we’d just eaten, what we’d just seen, and where we were off to next. It was the perfect opportunity to ask questions, not just about the food scene in Vietnam, but about  life  in Vietnam. We were partnered up for five hours so by the end of the night I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend.

Exploring Saigon's Food Scene by Motorbike with XO Tours

The food was plentiful and the company was great. As you’d imagine, the company goes beyond your guide and extends to the group that’s joined for the adventure. Motorbike tours max out at around 16 people and our evening was on the busier end during our visit in September. So, who’s the typical traveler on a tour like this ? Well, there is no ‘typical’ as it turns out. I expected our group to be primarily adventurous twenty and thirty-somethings but I was only partly right. Beyond Scott and myself, there was a mother/daughter duo (teenage daughter), two middle-aged couples traveling together from Australia, and two couples in their late twenties/early thirties from the US. The tour is really suitable for a broad range of travelers with an adventurous spirit wanting an authentic experience. I had originally thought that kids and elderly travelers may be the exception, but it turns out that XO Tours accommodates the gamut, with their oldest passenger being a 91-year-old traveler! Anyone with mobility or joint issues may want to reach out to verify whether the tour would work.

What about the food?

Exploring Saigon's Food Scene by Motorbike with XO Tours

At its essence, this is a food tour (though it feels like much more), so the natural question is what’s the food like?  If I’m being honest, Vietnam as a whole left something to be desired as far as food went. I  love  Vietnamese food and grew up in an area with a sizable Southeast Asian population (Vietnamese specifically) where we were lucky enough to enjoy regional cuisine regularly. Generally speaking, the food we had while in Vietnam wasn’t as vibrant as I’d imagined it being. This food tour was a great counter to our other experiences in the country though and brought some of the best local cuisine we tried during our two weeks in Vietnam. It also offered us opportunities to try unique local bites that we hadn’t been exposed to at home (like balut , which Scott gallantly tried for our team).

XO Tours Saigon

And for those with dietary restrictions, XO Tours manages it perfectly. I don’t eat meat and much of the local cuisine uses beef broth or meaty inputs in their food. They were aware of my diet and had options for me every step of the way. Our meeting point brought a vibrant bowl of noodle soup; a beef version for the group and a veg-friendly version for me. We stopped at a local Vietnamese BBQ spot which involved family-style service, serving up a slew of veggies and grilling up prawns at the table. Our guides doubled as our chefs, grabbing perfectly-seasoned bites of seafood, laying them on a tiny grill in front of us until they were ready to eat. Other stops included vegetarian-friendly bites and the crème de la crème in my book, the scallops,  which were the most memorable bite of the night for me.

XO Tours Saigon

For those curious about the length of the tour: yes, it’s about five hours, and it absolutely flies by. I’d originally raised my brows a bit about a five-hour food tour, but as I mentioned above, it’s so much more than a food tour. It’s a food tour couched inside of a broader tour of Saigon. I found the transit times between spots, sitting on the motorbike chatting with Hong, just as fun as the stops where we were actually dining.

By comparison (in the context of Vietnam), the tour is a bit of an investment at about $78 per person but is absolutely worth every penny. As the tour came to an end, we were escorted back to our hotel for the night along with another couple who was based at the Le Meridien as well. We all agreed that it was one of the best tours we’d ever done in our travels. Truth be told, as far as a tour experience goes, it could very well be the single best  tour we’ve done during our travels. The entire evening is perfectly orchestrated with thoughtful stops, great cuisine, incredible guides, and brings a unique local layer that makes it extremely memorable. I mean, how many opportunities do you get to zip through the streets of Saigon on the back of a motorbike? We were also fortunate that our primary tour leader for the night, Ming, doubled as our group photographer and graciously shared photos from the evening with us. As you can imagine, trying to snap photos or videos while riding on a motorbike is ill-advised for newbies so we took virtually zero photos during our tour. Thankfully, Ming shared snapshots from most of our stops during our evening to help fill the void (very much appreciated)!

All in all, a perfect finale to our time in Vietnam and perhaps our most memorable evening during our month in Southeast Asia . ?

Have you ever done a motorbike tour? Would you?

XO Foodie Tour Saigon Review

Ho Chi Minh City , the bustling metropolis located in the south of Vietnam, is famous for its vibrant and diverse food.

But sometimes tourists find it difficult trying the variety of foods Vietnam has to offer. That’s why we think a food tour is essential for any Vietnam first-timer.

And when it comes to food tours, the XO Foodie Tour is the best. It’s the perfect way to experience the local cuisine, learn about the culture and history of the city, and meet new people along the way.

So grab your chopsticks and come on a culinary adventure with us as we explore the best food that Ho Chi Minh City has to offer.

XO Foodie Tour Saigon Vietnam guide

About XO Tours

With almost ten years of experience, XO Tours has become Saigon’s most trusted food tour and was the first to feature all-female bike drivers.

We tried their premier tour – The XO Foodie – listed as one of the top nine food tours in the world by Forbes Magazine .

This tour offers a unique and authentic look into the lives of the local people and lets guests try some of the not-so-well-known Vietnamese dishes .

What to expect on the XO Foodie tour

We were picked up from our hotel by our designated tour drivers, Hang and Hong, and we instantly felt like we were in good hands.

Our guides were total pros, and they made us feel safe and secure the whole time. They spoke excellent English and were incredibly knowledgeable about the areas we were driving through.

And they didn’t just point out the sights, they really engaged with us, telling us stories and answering all of our questions.

First Stop – Introductions

Our first stop was to meet the rest of the tour group, including our charismatic tour leader, Sang.

He introduced all of us by name and gave us a warm welcome to the tour. We were all so excited to get started.

Throughout the tour, Sang was not only our guide, but our friend, sharing his own stories and experiences with us as we explored the city together.

Xo Tour Saigon Bun Bo Hue

We first tried a special soup, Bún Bò Huế , known for its balance of spicy, salty, and umami flavors.

Sang explained all the different elements that goes into this superb dish, from the fragrant lemongrass to the tender beef and delicious noodles.

It was clear Sang was passionate about the food of his country, and it made the experience all the more special.

Second Stop – Chinatown

We then rode into the bustling heart of Chinatown. The moment we entered this vibrant community, we were struck by the colorful architecture and lively atmosphere.

Everywhere we looked, there were shops and vendors selling all sorts of wares, from traditional Chinese decor to modern electronics. The signs were all written in beautiful Chinese characters, making us feel like we were in a completely different world.

We stopped for a moment to take it all in, and that’s when our tour leader, Sang, give us a little history lesson. He explained the significance of Chinatown and the role it has played in the cultural melting pot of Ho Chi Minh City.

Third Stop – Barbecue and Beer!

We hopped back onto our bikes and headed to the next district, feeling excited for more tasty local food. Our guides had promised us some of the best barbecued meats in the city, and we were ready to dig in.

XO Foodie Tour Saigon Vietnam

We arrived at a local restaurant that was bustling with locals, and we knew we were in for a treat.

The aroma of grilled meats was mouth-watering, and we eagerly awaited our plates. As promised, there were plenty of options to choose from, including some unique meats that we’d never tried before.

Also, at this stage, the beer and shots came out! Our guides made sure we were well-hydrated with cold, refreshing drinks.

grilled food

Trying new and unusual foods is one of the highlights of the XO Foodie tour , so we were thrilled to sample grilled frog, a dish that we never would have tried on our own.

We were pleasantly surprised by the taste. The meat was tender and flavorful, with a unique texture similar to chicken or fish.

Of course, there were plenty of other unique dishes to try, but we don’t want to spoil the fun for by giving away too many details. Let’s just say you won’t be disappointed!

frog

The food and drink just kept coming, and we ate until we were completely stuffed. But everything was so tasty we couldn’t help ourselves. We left the restaurant with happy stomachs and a newfound appreciation for the incredible flavors of Ho Chi Minh City.

Fourth Stop – ‘Little Singapore’

As we continued on our food tour, we arrived at a more upscale neighborhood in a central district. Our tour leader, Sang, was quick to give us the inside info on this unique part of the city.

“This district is like a little slice of Singapore in Saigon,” Sang explained. And as we looked around, we could definitely see the similarities. The neighborhood had a more modern, cosmopolitan feel to it, with wide streets and a distinct lack of motorbikes.

Instead, we saw plenty of luxury European cars. It was fascinating to see how this part of the city differed from the others we’d visited, and we soaked up all of Sang’s insightful details about the area.

Last stop – Seafood Finale

If you’re a seafood lover, then get ready – the next stop on our food tour was our favorite! We headed to a district that’s famous for its seafood, and our taste buds were in for a real treat.

crab

We sat down at a bustling restaurant packed to the brim with locals. As we looked around, we could see everyone tucking into giant platters of fresh seafood – it was clear that this was the place to be for any seafood lover in Saigon.

XO Foodie Tour Saigon Vietnam guide

And once our own dishes arrived, we knew we were in for a real treat. We feasted on succulent crab, perfectly seared scallops, and juicy, flavorful clams. One of the standout dishes was a spicy soup with deliciously plump clams – it was pure heaven in a bowl.

But even though our stomachs were already filled to the brim, we couldn’t resist trying some traditional Vietnamese desserts to finish. It was the perfect end to a truly unforgettable meal.

Why you should try the XO Foodie tour

There are so many reasons why you should try in the XO Foodie tour :

  • Tour drivers and guides that are incredibly attentive and make you feel safe at all times – even when navigating the chaotic traffic of Saigon!
  • Unlimited food and drinks (with plenty of encouragement to ask for more!), and even the chance to try some more unusual dishes that you might not otherwise have tried on your own.
  • Photographs are taken throughout and emailed to you later, so you can relive all the delicious food and fun memories even after you’ve returned home.
  • Any vegetarians or vegans will be happy with plenty of options available to suit their needs.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance is included in the tour – something you won’t find with other tour companies.

Xo Tours is the first all-female motorbike tour company in Vietnam, offering unique great&fun tours in Saigon for over 4 years now.

The founder and owner Mr Tung presented the scooting concept very simply "I wanted to create an unique tour company that would combine the fascinating motorbike culture in Vietnam with my admiration for the incredible women in Vietnam!  What better way to see Vietnam than on the back of a motorbike?  And who better show you around than someone that was born and raised in Vietnam and that understands the customs and culture?" Did you know that Xo Tours is the first company in Vietnam to include accident insurance with all their tours?

This is the worst travel agency ever. I contacted the agency to cancel my tour reservation and refund the cost of my flight. Because the agency booked my flight, I was unable to contact the airline directly for a refund. I called the agency and asked for Linda. They said she was on vacation. However, I hear someone in the background call out Linda's name, to which a female voice responded. I ultimately spoke to an agent named Maggie. She has anger management issues. She yelled at me, cursed at me, and deliberately put me on a prolonged hold because she was "tired." I inquired Maggie to contact the airline to seek a refund, to which Maggie said she would not do because it is a nonrefundable ticket. I explained that, given the circumstances, the airline might have an exception and she should ask the airline. Again, Maggie aggressively declined to do her job. Afterwards, I contacted the airline myself and asked the airline representative if a refund may be possible given my circumstance. The airline representative said, "Absolutely. Have your travel agency contact us." I attempted to call the travel agency again and the receptionist just sent me straight to voicemail. This agency is unprofessional, unethical, and the absolute worst.

My husband and I just came back from a 9 day tour in China (Beijing -- Xi'an -- Hangzhou/Wu Zhen -- Shanghai). 2 Days prior to us flying out, I confirmed with our booking agent Vivian Chiu that our hotels were confirmed since we were planning to meet up with family friends. There is a written discretion that the "5- star hotels" may change but it will be something comparable. Vivian reassured me that the hotels were confirmed and said that there would be 99.9% chance that hotels would change. Of course when we arrived in Beijing, that 0.01% chance occurred and we ended up somewhere far from the main city. Not only could our family friends not find the Holiday Inn that some random driver dropped us off at, but taxis wouldn't even drive out there 6 pm in the afternoon. We couldn't even walk around the hotel without thinking we would be lost in some random forest. The hotel was not even close to 3 stars- mold in the shower stalls, the room smelled musty and we found a giant beetle next to the desk. Their breakfast didn't even serve Beijing yogurt which is the staple breakfast food in Beijing! I texted Vivian demanding to know why our hotel was changed... uselessly she texted me back stating to call the emergency line for the tour guide. Of course they didn't do anything. Upon reviewing the location after we came back, the hotel was next to a shooting range. Of course we stayed here the entire 3 days in Beijing. This is just the beginning. You would think 3 days in Beijing our trip would be jam packed. Nope... on the 3rd day they just dropped us off back at the hotel around 2pm after some nasty lunch not even americans would want to eat. They said we had to leave early the next day to fly to Xi'an so they wanted us to rest as much as possible.... uhhhh 2pm is not even nap time for the elderly. On top of that, our tour guide Max was sooo incredibly lazy and had no motivation whatsoever. It felt like he hated his life/job the entire time he spoke. Xi'an was a little better since the hotel was at least closer to the city but still quite a drive when we took the taxi. Again, it was a different hotel than stated but at least we weren't stranded next to a shooting range. The first day, our new tour guide Julie took us to the small goose pagoda. We spent maybe 2 hrs there max, took us to lunch (crappy planned food again) and then dropped us back to the hotel. Uhhhh aren't we supposed to do other stuff like go to the Big Goose Pagoda and the Drum Tower as listed on our itinerary? Nope. We "drove by" those areas and she would just point them out and again left us at the hotel at 2pm. We ended up just taking a taxi out by ourselves to explore the Muslim Quarters. I think we enjoyed this the most from our entire trip. The next day we shoved everything all into one day and still didn't hit stuff listed on our itinerary. Finally we flew to Hangzhou. At least our hotel was the same as listed this time. Our tour guide, George was better however he kept on talking about random things like the "most beautiful girls" and "most handsome boys" of china in history- completely useless information to us. When he got excited about something, his voice got so loud that my ears were hurting and had to wear ear plugs (not kidding). The food got better however, and George actually took us to legit chinese restaurants instead of crappy American Chinese food that somehow existed in China. The last 2 days in Hangzhou/WuZhen and then to Shanghai were somewhat tolerable. We payed George extra ($60 USD per person) because he said it would be an upgrade to our trip to visit the Roosevelt Hotel and some random tunnel ride under the Huang Pu River in Shanghai. Sadly, the tunnel ride was super lame - had some Christmas lights flashing around a tunnel and we basically snuck into the Roosevelt Hotel and visited each floor. It was so awkward because the top floor was a cafe and the girl asked for how many people?... George quickly said we were lost and she pointed us back to the elevator. SMH. Overall, please don't book with them. Pay a little extra if you want to enjoy yourselves.

We booked our cruise to the Mexico areas for 7 days. Judy was our agent for booking. I realize she gave us all the wrong information about the Cruise, everything she said wasn't matching up to what she said about the Cruise. But of course we only find out by going. Such as all food is cover from our cruise fees, We had to pay food, because we got so tired of eating at the buffet everyday, same food again and again. Such as its all casual wear and no need to bring semi formal or formal clothes, So there's nicer restaurants on the cruise we couldn't go to. Such as all the kids activities are FREE, then we had to pay to play in the arcade. She also said there was bowling place on the cruise, there wasn't. Such as there was two sets of bump beds in our room and there wasn't. During the cruise we met several people that had pay for this 7 day cruise was around $1600 with balcony staterooms and we paid $2400, and it was very crumped, the restroom was so tiny. We did enjoyed the window view from the stateroom. Our stateroom was right underneath a restaurant or café, it was so noisy from all the running, the cart passing, people walking, etc.... and it extremely loud during the night, lucky we are sound sleepers, so it was annoying when we were not sleeping, so it wasn't enjoyable while we were sitting in side our stateroom trying to take a break from some activities. Overall, I was very disappointed with our agent Judy, not giving us the right information and not able to negotiate a better price for us. The price we had paid for, should had excellent service and condition of the staterooms.

We booked 6day 4nights to Taiwan and experienced travelers' nightmare during this visit: lier, lier, lier!!! You promised us this is an English speaking tour, right? You said you/or your tour guide speak English, remembered? We would have left your entire tour after the first night of inexcusable lier. I believe we are justified in requesting at least 50% refund of the final bill. My husband speaks only English, that's the reason why I asked you before we paid. It's so clear that your company is badly understaffed. I joined your tour because of your company advertisement in local papers and radios. I'm writing you regarding my dissatisfaction about the way in which your agent/owner handled a situation, when we asked the tour guide to try to explain the main topic in English, she said she'll try!! But never spoke English on the entire tour. And we had 3 other couples in our group that don't speak and understand Chinese!!! Are we invisible? I wonder???

Photo of Yc C.

Worst tour ever!!! We booked the Rockies tour and it was a disaster. The morning call at 5:30AM and have to spend averaging 9-10 hours on the bus. No vacation should be like that. Not to mentioned the food and hotel accommodation suck.

Your Complete Guide to a Dreamy Hawaii Honeymoon

Couple walking on beach in Hawaii

Dramatic peaks, lush rainforests, gorgeous beaches—there's a reason why a Hawaii honeymoon has become something of a standard for couples. While still part of the US, this string of islands feels worlds away—and still takes about the same time as it would to reach Europe if you're flying from the East Coast. But from California, this is a much easier—and just as exotic—locale as the Caribbean, and you'll find plenty of things to do in each of the islands. From Oahu, the "Heart of Hawaii," to the "Garden Isle" of Kauai, the six major islands pack in plenty for newlyweds, whether you're looking for a sleepy surf town, buzzy beach or nature like active volcanoes and coffee farms. From the first "Aloha," you'll instantly fall into the rhythm of Hawaiian time on your romantic island honeymoon.

Hawaii Honeymoon Tips in this Article:

Best Time to Honeymoon in Hawaii

Hawaii honeymoon planning tips, where to honeymoon in hawaii, hawaii honeymoon resorts and hotels, things to do in hawaii for couples, what to pack for a hawaii honeymoon.

Tropical sunset beach hawaii

Hawaii only has two seasons: summer, which spans May to October (and is considered the best time to visit ), and winter from November to April, which are also the wettest months. Peak whale-watching season falls between January and March, when humpbacks can be spotted along the coast. This is also when you'll catch bigger waves, if you plan to surf or watch competitions.

Best weather: May to October

Festival highlights: Honolulu Festival in March; Aloha Festivals in September; Hawai'i Food and Wine Festival and Hawai'i International Film Festival in October; Annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival and Hawaiʻi Food & Wine Festival in November; Vans Triple Crown of Surfing in November and December; Honolulu Marathon in December

The Hawaiian Islands are a quintessential honeymoon spot and hotels and resorts know how to pamper couples. If you're staying on the Island of Hawaii, you'll find plenty of resorts and vacation rentals on the Kohala Coast and Kona area, as well as Hilo and Puna on the eastern side of the island, near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. In addition to sprawling resorts with big-name brands, couples can also stay in a cozy cottage, B&B, condo or Airbnb in the form of a beach house, volcano dome home or luxe treehouse.

On most islands, you can get around by shuttle, public transportation, taxi or ride-sharing app like Uber or Lyft. If you plan to explore by car, be sure to reserve a rental far in advance as they tend to go fast. Another popular way to venture around the islands? On a cruise passing through ports in downtown Honolulu, Maui and the Garden Island of Kauai.

Above Waikiki beach crowded at sunset, Hawaii

When creating your Hawaii honeymoon itinerary, take a look at the six major islands to see which of these Polynesian charmers is right for you. Or, better yet, turn your romantic vacation into a two-part trip adventuring—or embracing total relaxation—in the Hawaiian Islands.

Nicknamed "The Valley Isle," Maui is the postcard-perfect version of Hawaii, lined with 33 miles of beaches and lush rainforests, as well as Mount Haleakala, which towers 10,000 feet above sea level and shows off stunning sunrise views.

The Hollywood favorite's wild landscape has made appearances in everything from Raiders of the Lost Ark to Jurassic Park and Elvis' Blue Hawaii . "The Garden Island" continues captivating visitors with its lush green valleys, jagged cliffs and tropical rainforests—making it a great spot for adventure-seekers who want to hike, kayak or zip-line.

Home to capital city Honolulu and laid-back surf towns like Haleiwa, honeymooners will find tons of resorts to swoon over in the legendary neighborhood of Waikiki, where you can stay directly on the world-famous beach near shopping, dining and entertainment attractions.

The Big Island of Hawaii

The youngest and largest in the chain, you can pass through four different climate zones while venturing around the Big Island. While there are fewer (and smaller) beaches, you'll find plenty of other sites to marvel at, from the ink-black Punalu'u Beach to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Whether you choose your hotel based on the island or vice versa, Hawaii offers honeymooners plenty of options for relaxing and romantic hotels. Take your pick of charming cottages, unique Airbnbs, vacation rentals and more traditional resorts where the view keeps getting better everywhere you turn.

Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection in Hawaii

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

The open-air resort is one of the most luxurious in Maui—and also boasts the most spacious accommodations on the island. Modern suites sit perched over the Pacific and Wailea Beach, and you'll even spot neighboring islands while lounging on your lanai. Take a dip in one of the Four Seasons ' three saltwater pools, which includes an adults-only option lined with twin Missoni-designed cabanas.

The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

This oceanfront beauty with direct access to sandy D.T. Fleming Beach is a paradise for couples who want easy access to Maui's best snorkeling and surfing (six bays sit within a 10-minute drive), but there's also plenty at the resort if you don't want to stray too far from your suite. Lounge under an umbrella at the 24-hour heated pool, play tennis on a court overlooking the ocean or set off on a trek around Kapalua's miles of coastal and mountain trails.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

If you're planning to cash in points for a dream honeymoon stay, now is the time. Ranked one of the top resorts in the Hawaiian Islands, Grand Wailea is a destination in itself. Unfolding along Wailea Beach and surrounded by 40 acres of lush landscape, this sprawling resort checks off tons of boxes, from award-winning cuisine to championship golf and tennis, a Mexican mosaic-lined cabana-fringed pool and a lagoon with nine individual pools, plus waterfalls, caves, three Jacuzzis and a swim-up bar.

Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection

Touches of the islands are found throughout Mauna Lani in the form of sleek hardwood floors, natural fabrics and gorgeous textiles you'll want to source your own version of and bring home as a souvenir. In addition to a furnished lanai, you'll find sumptuous touches like soaking tubs overlooking the ocean and spacious, minimalist-chic bathrooms with walk-in showers roomy enough for two. Canoe out to spectacular snorkel spots or embrace Hawaii's natural side another way, indulging in a spa treatment that champions homegrown plants and botanicals.

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

The oceanfront enclave on Kauai's North Shore blends the best of wellness-focused 1 Hotels with Hawaii's natural beauty. Gardens and living walls are planted with mostly endemic or Polynesian canoe crops brought over nearly 1,000 years ago; dining at signature spot 1 Kitchen is plant-forward and hyper-local, showing off seasonal fare sourced from the island's own farmers, fishers and growers; and mountain- or ocean-view rooms frame views through wall-length windows and daybed-clad terraces.

Couple in snorkeling gear on boat in Hawaii

Indulge in an Authentic Feast and Luau

You can't visit Hawaii without experiencing a luau, and this entertaining version on the site of the Battle of Kipapa in Honolulu combines Hawaiian war history, traditional dance and fire-knife performances. Get ready for the art of hula and an all-you-can-eat Hawaiian feast.

Cruise Oahu's Coast

A sunset cruise is always a romantic moment when visiting an island, but this three-course crab and steak dinner cruise comes with extra entertainment in the form of the largest cast in Hawaii's waters. Toast with Mai Tai cocktails while watching a live performance dubbed "60 Years of Aloha."

Snorkel with Manta Rays on the Big Island

Hop on a cruise along the Big Island where a local guide will get you equipped to plunge down for a snorkel session with manta rays. This is one experience you'll want to bring (or rent!) a GoPro to catch the moment on video to share with everyone back home.

Helicopter Over the Garden Isle

The next best thing to skydiving, jump into an open-door helicopter and soar for nearly an hour over Kauai's wild cliffs, canyons and rainforests. On the trip, you'll spot waterfalls from Jurassic Park and the Na Pali Coast with a trained firefighting pilot at the helm.

Go Chasing Waterfalls and Volcanoes on the Big Island

On this small-ground sightseeing tour , you'll get a mix of history, culture and nature while touring a Kona coffee farm, dipping your toes at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach (keep an eye out for green sea turtles!), and peering into the 500-year-old Thurston Lava Tube.

Pro tip: Add Hawaii honeymoon experiences to your gift registry so that loved ones can give you one of these memorable couples activities.

When going through your packing checklist for a Hawaii Honeymoon, don't forget comfortable footwear for walking, sandals for the beach, a few nicer pieces for dinners (think breezy dresses, linen pants and espadrilles), and layers for daytime. Tropical chic is the vibe here, so mix colors, patterns, knits and statement accessories (go for fun over formal). You'll also want to pack essentials like a hat, sunglasses, waterproof camera or case for your phone and reef-safe sunscreen.

I am forever grateful that we did this tour - what a beautiful and fun way to experience the city! The food was great, and I love how they also mix sightseeing into the tour, so you have time to digest, haha. You learn a lot, about the culture as well as the food, but more importantly, the staff is beyond wonderful - so kind, fun and welcoming. I would recommend doing this tour 10/10, and would love to do it again. A special thanks to Truc, Rose and Vy who made this tour memorable for me and my friend - but everyone on the team was really lovely!

This was my first solo trip to HCMC (Saigon), VN. I had booked two tours (XO Foodie and Saigon by Night) with XO Tours , a woman owned business. Both tours were well-organized, well-coordinated, and everything was punctual. With XO tours, for a few precious hours, I got to understand what a typical day in the life of locals was like. My XO Tour leaders and guides were friendly, sweet and engaging that I learned a great deal and because of them, I want to learn more about everything VN. I experienced the wonderful cuisine and culture of Vietnam. I had so much fun. It was an experience that I will never forget. I highly recommend XO Tours for your tours in Saigon. Great job ladies! Wishing you all the best in 2024!

The foodie tour was a great introduction to Vietnam for us! We also received lots of useful information beforehand via WhatsApp and any question was answered quickly! It was also interesting to hear about Vietnamese history as well as how people live and interact with each other in Ho Chi Minh City, especially from a young girls perspective. The food was yummy too!

A quick note to say how much my family enjoyed our foodie tour. I was very nervous about having my daughters on motorbikes but the ladies made it’s so EASY and we all felt incredibly safe and comfortable with each of our drivers. Our drivers wanted to get to know us personally, aspects of our home country and our world travels, while showing & teaching us wonderful highlights of this beautiful city. We all laughed, had wonderful conversations, and we enjoyed great company and great food (food comatose afterwards). Thank you so much for an evening that we’ll be talking about for years to come. I am more than happy to recommend this tour to others and hope one day we can return to experience it again.

Very, fun and safe scooter ride around the city with delicious food. saw a huge amount of the city and a generous food portions! Tour leader and our personal scooter guides were caring thoughtful and superb service. Highly recommend!
