California Prop 65

CALIFORNIA PROP 65

All products shipped by Acehigh Tech Corp into the State of California are subject to Proposition 65 (“Prop 65”) or The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. “Prop 65” was created through the ballot initiative process and was intended to protect California citizens and the State’s drinking water from a State determined list of over 850 chemicals that are “known” by the State to cause cancer, reproductive harm, or birth defects. This list and other information regarding “Prop 65” can be accessed at  http://oehha.ca.gov/prop65.html .

Prop 65 requires that a “clear and reasonable warning” be provided by a Person/Company in the course of doing business, who manufactures, produces, assembles, processes, handles, distributes, stores, sells, or otherwise transfers a consumer product which he or she knows to contain a chemical known to the state to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity to any person to whom the product is sold or transferred.

Because we cannot test every piece of every order that we ship to California for every one of the Proposition 65 listed 850 chemicals, the safest option is to include the following label on each product that may ship to the State of California - which we will do free of charge.

Our goal has, and will continue to, use reputable and environmentally responsible suppliers to ultimately insure the safety of our products and its users. This label will ensure full compliance with California Proposition 65 requirements.

WHY DOES THE RIGHT BACKPACK MATTER FOR DIGITAL NOMADS

As a digital nomad, you will spend countless hours moving from one place to another with your backpack – in planes, taxis, buses, trains, and more.  Though these experiences will be amazing and exhilarating, knowing that your entire life is on your back can have the potential for stress.  If the bag is uncomfortable, if the bag becomes disorganized (and it’s hard to find things quickly), or if your belongings get lost or broken while you’re miles from home.

Having the right backpack mitigates all of these issues and allows you to focus on enjoying your travels instead of worrying about your belongings.

The best digital nomad backpacks offer these benefits:

  • Makes staying organized easy , with logical, intuitive pockets for tech-heavy travelers
  • Protects your things with special pockets for delicates (laptops) and valuables (money and passports)
  • Allows for carryon only travel for quicker movement, less likelihood of losing your things, and savings on checked bag fees
  • Durable enough to last years of hard travel
  • Versatile enough to be comfortable and durable in most activities – flying, daily commutes, and even hiking

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A GOOD DIGITAL NOMAD BACKPACK

There is no single “perfect travel backpack” that suits every kind of traveler, but there is a clear list of characteristics that make a backpack better for travel.  Review this list of what the perfect travel backpack would have and judge your options accordingly.

Attributes of the perfect travel backpack:

  • Airplane Carry-On Friendly (size and shape), generally less than 45 liters and 9”x14”x22”
  • Still roomy enough to store everything for one year around the world
  • Comfortable, padded, and breathable shoulder straps, back panel, and removable hip belt
  • Durable build and materials: heavy-duty cloth, heavy duty zippers
  • Good Organization: Logical pockets for items like laptops, tablets, documents, clothes, etc.
  • Laptop protection: False bottom, padding, rigid support

Comfortable back panel, straps, and how the bag generally sits

Fits your style of travel and adventure (urban, outdoors, minimalist, tech-heavy).

  • Water-resistant materials and zippers
  • Secure design and secure storage for valuables (passport, cash, credit cards, smartphone) with a little anti-theft protection

Good value for the price

  • Appropriate size and organization for your length of travel
  • Intuitive design makes it easier to access pockets and wear comfortably
  • Sleek exterior: No loose straps to catch on conveyor belts, or pockets exposed for pickpocketing
  • Clamshell style opening to access all contents easily
  • Optional: Size and design helps bag double as both carryon luggage and a daypack

(45L| $395| Perfect for Hard Use and Adventure Travel)

nomad travel tech bag

A spacious and tough military-grade and inspired ruck, this “travel ruck” is built to carry 450lbs+, is rainproof , and is made of abrasion and tear-resistant 1000D Cordura nylon throughout and a lifetime guarantee .  If you need a travel bag that can handle abuse and survive the years, the GORUCK GR3 is it.

nomad travel tech bag

The clamshell-style design makes everything in the bag easily and quickly accessible, but plan on taking packing cubes as well to stay organized (I recommend any of these packing cubes ).  Two of my last four years traveling have been with this “travel ruck,” and I can’t recommend it more.

  • GORUCK SCARS guarantee
  • Packing cubes are essential to staying organized

 (40L and 34L | $375 | Hard Use and Adventure)

nomad travel tech bag

The GORUCK GR2 delivers the same toughness as the GR3, but with all of the organization you need and in a daypack-friendly bag.  This ruck is still built rainproof, abrasion-resistant, tear-resistant, and ready to hold 450lbs loads.  The GORUCK GR2 also has a two-compartment clamshell opening design with all panels lined with mesh pockets and a protected “bombproof laptop pocket” with rigged protection and a “false bottom.”

nomad travel tech bag

The GR2 is a perfect weekender backpack, and the 34L version is my go-to daypack.  Pair this bag with a collapsible duffle (like the GORUCK Kit Bag or the Northface Base Camp duffel ), and you’ll still have a carry on friendly setup that can expand to fit all of your gear and gives you a great daypack/weekend pack for daily commutes and varied adventures

(34L, 27L, or 22L | $163 | Water-Resistant, tough, urban, or adventure bag for DNs )

nomad travel tech bag

Greenroom136 is a boutique maker of tough backpacks that are intuitively designed to fit every piece of tech you have and put together with some of the most durable materials available.

I was lucky enough to meet the company’s owner in Kuala Lumpur. He shared that he (a traveler and consummate entrepreneur at heart) designs his bags for others that split their lives between traveling and hustling their way to building an empire.  Sounds like a solid digital nomad to me.

The Rainmaker is a clamshell-style opening bag with protected pockets for laptops, tablets, tech, and the rest of your travel gear.  The Padded and mesh vented straps are reinforced with car seat belts for strength.  Mesh panel style pockets dot the bag to keep everything else organized.  Waterproof VXPac fabric is used throughout. Lastly, the shop will custom modify the bag to any specification you wish.

Either travel minimalist with the 34L Rainmaker or go for the smaller 27L Rainmaker and pair it with a compressible duffle bag for a solid travel setup.

(40L | $129 | Nomads that prefer outdoor adventures)

When it comes to carry-sized backpacks made for (and perfect for) hiking and trekking, the REI Trail 40 is hard to beat. Light in weight, comfortable shoulder harness, minimalist, and outdoor activity-focused organization, this bag is solid for a nomad who plan to spend most of their off time adventuring.

I personally used this bag for the first year of my travels, do the “digital nomad thing,” and doing the Everest Base Camp Trek, and motorbiking the Ho Chi Minh Trail on the side.  This bag was perfect for all of the above.

nomad travel tech bag

However, I recommend padded laptop protection (like a simple **neoprene sleeve**) and a large Ziploc bag for waterproofing

  • Contoured shoulder straps and back panel designed for hiking
  • Fabric and line made from 100% recycled material

  • For laptops, consider bringing a padded laptop sleeve

DIGITAL NOMAD BACKPACKS COMPARISON CHART

There is no single “perfect travel backpack” that suits every kind of traveler, but there is a clear list of characteristics that make a backpack better for travel.  Review this list of what the perfect travel backpack would have and judge your options accordingly.  Keep reading to read more about each characteristic in-depth after the best digital nomad backpacks full list

  • Durable build and materials: heavy-duty cloth, heavy-duty zippers

CARRY ON SIZE: USUALLY 45 LITERS OR LESS

Traveling with a carry-on travel backpack and not checking your bags saves time, money, effort, and worry.

  • Being able to skip check-in at the airport will save at least an hour for each flight, and you won’t have to worry about arriving 2 hours before departure (to check bags)
  • You’ll save ~45 minutes not waiting for bags to come off the plane
  • You don’t risk having an airline lose your bags or send them to the wrong country (which has happened to me twice)
  • You’ll save thousands of dollars in checked bag fees

If you’re traveling long term and absolutely can’t squeeze your belongings into a 45-liter bag, consider getting a carry on sized travel bag and a collapsible duffle to pack your overflow items.

After the first year of travel, many digital nomads set up a base in a single city and travel for days or weeks on shorter trips to explore.  Having the duffle bag will give you optional space for the big moves, but your primary, carryon sized travel backpack will be perfect for most adventures – weekend or weeks long

Materials, stitching, and build quality should last years of travel abuse

When you’re miles from home, in Southeast Asia or rural South America, it’s hard to replace a good digital nomad backpack.  Your best bet is to invest in a quality backpack upfront.

Key build and durability points to look for in your backpack:

  • Durable cloth/material : 1000D Cordura nylon, ripstop nylon, sailcloth, etc.
  • Large, high-quality zippers : YKK zippers are a solid sign of quality.
  • Thick, padded, reinforced shoulder straps
  • Heavy-duty thread and stitching throughout , redundant at stress points: if you pull the fabric at the seams, the thread/stitching shouldn’t stretch much under the stress

Good Organization

Plenty of well thought out pockets, suitable for your average packing list, and easily accessible anytime

The best backpacks on the market (and all of the ones on this list) were designed by long term travelers that know what the average packing list is like and what items need special pockets (laptop, smartphone, underwear, toiletries, etc.), as well as where to place them for easy access.

Think about your packing list and consider how well the pockets will help keep you organized.  Additionally, think about if the bag allows you to access those time-sensitive needs (passport or credit cards while at the airline counter) while keeping them safe.

Remember, few bags are perfect for keeping your goods organized constantly, so packing cubes will become your best friend.

Specialized Laptop Storage and Protection

Most digital nomads will travel with a laptop – that is expensive and difficult to repair/replace – so having a dedicated space that protects your laptop is essential.

Ensure the dedicated pocket offers some padding and either offers rigidity (to protect the screen and laptop from flexing) or has space for a clipboard or protective sheet.

Additionally, a “false bottom” on the laptop pocket, giving a few inches between your laptop and the ground, is a great feature.

Regardless of how good the laptop pocket is, I recommend taking a lightly padded laptop sleeve (like a neoprene laptop sleeve**) for some shock absorption and a simple clipboard or piece of Kydex plastic as a frame sheet to protect your laptop from flexing.

If your adventures go as planned, you will spend more hours wearing this bag than you can count.  Having a comfortable bag will make the difference between pleasurable and miserable memories.

Check these areas on the backpack for comfort:

  • Shoulder straps: Amply padded, contoured, and easily tightened/loosened
  • Supportive, Ergonomic Back Panel: Should be padded enough to be comfortable and rigid enough to avoid having anything in your bag poking you in the back.
  • Padded waist straps: Great for relieving the stress from your shoulders during long wear, but if they’re not padded, they’ll dig into your hips.

Padded handles on the top and sides

You won’t always wear your backpack.  Sometimes you’ll be standing in line at a counter or waiting for a bus.  Having those durable and padded handles means you don’t have to take the bag on and off constantly, and carrying it by hand will be more comfortable

The “perfect travel” is different for all travelers.  Whereas many would love to spend a year in urban Paris, I need motorbiking adventures once a month.

This is where the perfect backpack for each of us starts to vary heavily.

Think about what you want to do the most during your travels: hike, do city tours, live in the mountains, work your days away on a beach, etc.

Look for a pack that is comfortable and functional during those activities and in those places.

A digital nomad that spends months in Patagonia will benefit from having a worthy hiking pack. In contrast, a digital nomad traveling Indonesia with Bali as her base may prioritize water resistance.

Think about what you want your travels to be like, the activities you want to do, and where it will happen, and judge your backpack options accordingly.

Water-Resistant

Very few bags are completely waterproof, but having some degree of water resistance goes a long way, especially in the potentially wet climates of the Southeast Asian rainy season, whether the sky can go from sunny to monsoon to sunny with little notice.

Water-resistance is generally dependent on the bag material – 1000D Cordura nylon in the GORUCK GR3 is very rain resistant. In contrast, the TPU ripstop nylon of the Patagonia Black Hole MLC is completely waterproof, leaving only the zippers exposed and the same case with Tortuga’s Proprietary Xpac sailcloth on the Tortuga Outbreaker .

Know that there is plenty of great water-resistant options. If you’re in a place with a high likelihood of rain, plan accordingly, but check for at least a little water resistance in your bag

Secure design and secure storage for valuables (passport, cash, credit cards, smartphone)

Losing an expensive item, like a laptop or phone, or a difficult-to-replace item, like credit cards or a passport, while traveling can be heartbreaking.

Save yourself the stress by ensuring the bag has a few dedicated pockets that are still easily accessible for you but still hard for pickpocketers to access while you’re wearing the bag—extra points for lockable zippers.

I will warn you now that most amazing bags will not be cheap.  But the benefits, durability, and stress-free experience you’ll receive will be worth it.  I’ve broken three backpacks that were ~$100 during my travels – once in the middle of a week-long hike through Patagonia and once in the middle of a three-month motorbike tour.  Though I could stitch up these packs and repair them using extra rock climbing equipment, the experiences were miserable.

Since then, I have invested in extremely well-built bags – the GORUCK GR3, GORUCK GR2, and Tortuga Outbreaker, among them.  These bags have been much more comfortable, much more functional, and have never broken on me.  At the rate that they’re wearing out, I’ll have them for at least two more decades before anything goes wrong.

I am not saying that you should spend a lot on a bag or go cheap; I am saying consider the value you are getting for what you’re for a bag.  Invest in something that gives you immense benefit for the price.  Even cheap backpacks cannot be worth the money.

Sleek exterior – no loose straps or pockets exposed for pickpocketing

Compression straps are good and useful but should be secured.  Too many loose straps can get snagged on conveyor belts in the fantasy world that checked bags travel through.  Save yourself some headache (and your bag some damage) by avoiding bags with too many straps or at least securing yours before you travel.

Clamshell style opening

I underestimated how much more convenient a clamshell-style opening backpack was over a top-loading backpack until I switched to my new travel bags.  I highly recommend it.

Essentially, a clamshell-style opening pack unzips and splits in half, exposing everything in the bag almost immediately.  This makes it easier to access anything in the bag very quickly.

Optional: Doubles both carryon luggage and a daypack

For truly minimalist travelers, being able to unload your travel pack and use it as your daypack for a hike or day of work at a coworking space is clutch.  Don’t forget the packing cubes to keep your gear organized.

QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN FINDING THE RIGHT BACKPACK FOR YOU

This list is filled with “perfect packs,” but perfect for who?  Each pack is perfect for a different type of traveler with specific preferences.

Ask yourself the following questions and take note of the answers to rule out packs that aren’t right for you and find the perfect pack for your adventure.

  • If you’re frequently moving, prioritize comfort and durability.
  • If you’re taking more tech than the average traveler, aim for a pack with more dedicated pockets and protection or plan on buying extra protection and tech pouches
  • Best case scenario, you can travel with only a carry-on backpack.  If you can’t, consider taking a compressible duffle bag to use when your load gets bigger (in colder climates and carrying outdoor equipment) and empty when your load gets lighter (mailing things home, discarding clothes as you move to warmer climates).
  • Compressible daypacks are fantastic and functional for the average traveler, but if you’re carrying 15lbs of laptop + tech to the coworking space daily, you may need a sturdier daypack.  Option 1) take a travelpack that doubles as a daypack (like the GORUCK GR2) or 2) take a simple yet sturdy daypack that packs down like a Jansport school bag or the Fjallraven Kanken.
  • Like those from Aer or Tortuga, Chic urban bags are awesome for city travel and general backpacking (between working as a DN). Still, hard use bags like the GORUCK GR3 or Northface Base Camp Duffel will result in less headache.  Think about what you want to spend most of your time doing and ask if your prospective bag will excel with you or survive the experience.  Water resistance, abrasion-resistant outer, special tech pockets, and even trekking worthiness will vary from bag to bag regardless of how good the bag is generally.  Get a bag that excels at what you need
  • If you’re traveling in the summer heat, a healthy packing list is light – shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, and adventure-ready sandals – making it easy to use a smaller, carryon sized pack.  If you’ll be traveling in the winter and cold weather – perhaps Europe or cool evenings trekking – then your bag will be larger, filled with rain shells, insulating layers, and durable pants.  Plan accordingly.

1. Nomatic Travel Bag (40L)

Best overall for digital nomads.

nomatic travel bag 40l digital nomad backpacks

If you're a digital nomad, trust us, it doesn't get any better than this backpack. That unexpected rainstorm in Bangkok I was telling you about? It's this backpack's water-repellent fabric and waterproof zippers that keep everything dry!

And its carry-on dimensions are perfect if you want to skip checked baggage (who doesn't?). Navigating airport security with the Nomatic Travel Bag is a walk in the park thanks to its TSA-ready laptop compartment . It’s all neatly organized and easily accessible, which was incredibly handy during our café-hopping from Chang Mai to Medellìn.

And get this: there's even a separate shoe compartment , which, as crazy as it may sound, demonstrates to us that the people at Nomatic clearly understand the nomadic lifestyle! It came in handy when we hit the beach in Tulum, keeping the sand away from our work materials.

It even has an RFID safe pocket which brings a sense of security in crowded markets, like those of Istanbul, protecting our stuff from potential theft. While the price tag is a bit steep , the value it brings is undeniable. It’s built to last and styled to suit any setting, which means you won’t need another travel bag for a long time.

2. Osprey Farpoint / Fairview Series (40L)

Best for long term travel.

osprey farpoint and fairview digital nomad backpacks

If you're a true digital nomad, I bet you've probably seen the Osprey Farpoint 40 on the backs of many travelers. This backpack comes in two versions: the Osprey Farpoint 40 for a rugged feel and the Osprey Fairview 40 , designed with a fit tailored for women. Both are favorites for their robust, spacious design that handles the wear and tear of long-term travel without batting an eye.

But what we've found sets them apart from others is their comfort during transit —the stowaway back panel, harness, and hip belt tuck away when you don’t need them, making getting from A to B less of a hassle. And during security checks, the laptop sleeve makes pulling out your computer easy peasy.

If you're always on the move like us, we know you'll love the quick-access pocket . It was especially useful during our rainforest treks in Colombia when we needed to grab a quick snack to recharge our energy. Because that's the thing, travel backpacks should keep laptops safe but also include extra features for non-work use.

This gets me to another perk: the backpack has an expandable design , which means you can pack a little extra or cinch it down when you’re traveling lighter. And yes, they’re comfortable to lug around, even fully packed, which is a huge plus. but they’re a bit on the heavy side compared to some others. Still, the Osprey Farpoint and Fairview won’t let you down.

  • Capacity: 40L (Farpoint) / 36L (Fairview)
  • Dimensions: 61 x 38 x 10 cm (Farpoint) / 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm (Fairview)
  • Weight: 1.63 kg (Farpoint) / 2.40 kg (Fairview)
  • Material: Nylon mini hex diamond ripstop and packcloth
  • Compartments: Fits up to 15.4" laptop
  • Lightweight, frame suspension system
  • Padded laptop and tablet sleeve
  • Stowaway back panel, harness, and hip belt
  • Dual front compression straps
  • Lockable zippers

3. TropicFeel Shell (40L)

Best for versatility.

tropicfeel shell digital nomad backpack

We know...digital nomads shouldn't dread packing and unpacking so much. But I can't help it, I just don't like it! If you can relate, this backpack will surely ease the pain. The TropicFeel Shell backpack is for anyone who's constantly on the move. But what we love about it is its super handy wardrobe system . Let me tell you, this feature changed my travels during our month-long stay in Cambodia. The system is a portable closet that you can easily detach and hang up , from a tent in a Koh Rong to a closet rod in a Kuala Lumpur apartment. It'll be useful in any digital nomad accommodation really. With this backpack, my clothes and essentials are always neatly organized and accessible, which is a rare luxury when living out of a suitcase!

The backpack’s adjustable capacity is another great addition although it admittedly gets a bit bulky when fully loaded. Still, the versatility is invaluable and I love this backpack so much (it's been one of my first digital nomad backpacks!). For digital nomads or anyone who doesn't want to be weighed down by luggage, the TropicFeel Shell offers a practical, versatile solution that keeps up with the unpredictability of travel.

  • Capacity: 22 L (expandable to 40 L)
  • Dimensions: 50 x 33 x 18 cm (expandable to 28 cm)
  • Weight: 1.7-2.1 kg (depending on accessories)
  • Material: 600D polyester with polyurethane lining
  • Laptop Sleeve: Fits up to 15” laptop
  • Top and front access
  • Wardrobe system for organized packing
  • Kangaroo pocket for separating dirty or wet items
  • Magnetic Fidlock mounting points for attaching additional pouches

4. Tortuga Travel Backpack Pro (40L)

Best for traveling smart.

tortuga travel back pro, digital nomad backpack

If you’re interested in our take on travel backpacks, it’s because you know we’re digital nomads who have the same needs. So, if you were to buy a travel backpack from someone, shouldn’t they know what remote working is like? Exactly. Tortuga has been operating remotely since day one, and you can tell, their backpacks really go the extra mile for nomads like us.

Their Travel Backpack Pro 40L packs like a suitcase but carries like a backpack . It’s your perfect carry-on buddy. I recently took it on a trip to the Dominican Republic and was happy to see that it fits perfectly within the US size limits during my layover in Orlando.

In terms of organization , we’re completely sold. It has various pockets and compartments to help you pack in an organized manner and you could pair it with the Tortuga packing cubes for a perfect travel combo. The well-padded back and adjustable chest-hip straps distribute the weight evenly, making it feel lighter than it is—even when packed full. And yes, it's waterproof , which is something you should always consider if you want to take valuable stuff with you (and who are we kidding, you will).

But let’s go over some less cool things, too. While there’s a laptop compartment , it's sometimes as straightforward to extract your laptop, which especially when this backpack is fully packed. The card holder pockets (a nice idea, we’ll give them that), aren’t as practical as they could be. And those straps? They do tend to flop around, which can be annoying on flights. But we think the pros definitely outweigh the cons, making the Tortuga Travel Backpack Pro 40L one of the top digital nomad backpacks around.

  • Capacity: 40 L
  • Dimensions: 21.7 x 13.8 x 7.9 in (55 x 35 x 20 cm)
  • Weight: 4.5 lb (2.0 kg)
  • Material: SHELL200 (Durable, waterproof sailcloth)
  • Laptop compartment: Up to 16" laptop and 12.9" tablet
  • Carry-on sized
  • Easy to pack and comfortable to carry
  • Padded laptop compartment

5. GORUCK GR2 (34-40L)

Most durable backpack.

goruck gr2 digital nomad backpack

If you're the type of traveler who doesn't shy away from rough grounds or adventurous journeys , then you might want to look at the GORUCK GR2 . It's built to handle anything you throw at it without a scratch . This backpack can prove itself super useful in those times when you are hiking through unpredictable weather and rough terrain. It's crafted from Special Forces-grade material , so durability is a given . It’s also designed with multiple compartments that not only keep your gear organized but also easily accessible, thanks to its ability to open flat.

The GORUCK GR2 does come with a few quirks, though. It's on the heavier side compared to other digital nomad backpacks , mainly due to its sturdy materials. And when it comes to looks, well, it might not suit everyone’s style . But it does come with MOLLE webbing for adding pouches and gear , making it highly customizable if you like to tweak its setup. The padded laptop compartment is also very handy for keeping your tech safe on the go. Yes, it’s a significant investment , but for durability that can match the demands of nearly any adventure, it's hard to beat.

  • Capacity: 34 L or 40 L (depending on the size you prefer)
  • Dimensions: Size S: 50.8 x31.8 x22.9; Size L: 55.9 x31.8 x22.9 cm
  • Weight: Size S: 2 kg; Size L: 2.3 kg
  • Material: Special Forces-grade material (1000D Cordura), rainproof
  • Laptop compartment: Size S: Fits up to 13" laptop; Size L: Fits up to 17"
  • Opens flat for easy packing and organization
  • Multiple compartments for efficient storage
  • MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) webbing for customization

6. PacSafe VentureSafe EXP45

Best for security.

pacsafe venturesafe digital nomad backpack

Traveling is a blast, there’s no doubt about it. But, when you're in a new city, walking through crowded neighborhoods or markets, keeping your stuff safe should top your list of priorities . It's all too easy for someone to reach into an open backpack while you're distracted, looking at your phone, or giving directions. That’s exactly when PacSafe VentureSafe EXP45 comes to the rescue.

This backpack is more like a personal vault than a backpack. Designed with the security-conscious traveler in mind , it comes packed with top-notch anti-theft features . You name it, it has it: eXomesh slash guards that prevent bag slashers from getting through; Carrysafe splashguard straps that can’t be easily cut; and even RFIDsafe blocking materials that protect your digital data from scanners. It doesn't matter if you’re squeezing through the metro rush or exploring an overflowing street market, this backpack keeps your valuables safe.

Along with its great security features, the backpack offers practical everyday functionality. It has a padded laptop compartment and a 35L capacity suitable for both daily commutes and longer trips. While the robust security measures make accessing your items a bit slower than with less secure backpacks, the added peace of mind is a worthy trade-off if you prioritize security.

  • Capacity: 45 L
  • Dimensions: 55 x 35 x 23 cm
  • Weight: 1.38 kg
  • Material: N210D nylon fabric with eXomesh slashguard and RFIDsafe blocking pockets and material
  • Laptop Sleeve: Fits up to 15" laptop
  • eXomesh slashguards and Carrysafe slashguard straps
  • RFIDsafe blocking pockets and material
  • Lockable zippers and lockdown point

7. Bange Travel Backpack (35L)

Best for extra storage.

bange digital nomad backpack

When storage matters most, the Bange Travel backpack 35L delivers. As someone who's usually overwhelmed by packing, I was surprised myself at how much this backpack could fit without feeling overstuffed. It can become your go-to for longer trips, like when you spend those weeks touring through Southeast Asia. The multiple compartments and pocket s work magic for keeping everything organized—from tech gadgets to travel snacks.

One of my favorite features has to be the expandable design . I can assure you that with this backpack, you'll end up finally managing to pick those souvenirs that you were so hesitant to buy last time. The extra space this backpack offers make it easy to fit everything in for the journey home, no extra bags needed. It's slightly bulkier than other models we've tried, but the added room more than compensates for the extra bulk, especially for a full-time digital nomad who can't afford to leave essentials behind.

This backpack also includes a USB charging port which becomes super useful during long transit waits. We were able to charge our phone right from our backpack while waiting for a delayed flight in Orlando. The anti-theft design adds another layer of security, giving you peace of mind while navigating crowded tourist spots or bustling transit hubs.

So, for anyone who needs a reliable, spacious backpack that can handle a bit more gear, the Bange Travel Backpack 35L is a wonderful choice. Just be prepared for a bit of extra weight, and maybe handle the zippers with care.

  • Capacity: 35 L
  • Dimensions: 50 x 32 x 20 cm
  • Weight: 1.5 kg
  • Material: Water-resistant and durable polyester fabric
  • Laptop Compartment: Fits up to 17" laptop
  • Multiple compartments including laptop, tablet, and several smaller pockets for organization
  • USB charging port
  • Luggage strap for attaching to a suitcase
  • Anti-theft design

8. Nomatic Backpack (20L)

Best compact option.

nomatic 20l digital nomad backpack

The Nomatic Backpack 20L might look small, but it's a compact dynamo perfect for digital nomads who like to travel light . I was genuinely surprised by how much this sleek backpack could handle. For shorter stays , it's been my go-to choice, especially when I don't want to lug around a heavier 40-50L backpack.

The quality of construction is excellent , striking a balance between practicality and style . And no, it's not just a downsized version of the 30L—it comes with thoughtfully designed features and pockets that cater well to those who prefer a minimalistic approach. On a recent trip from Sofia to Bansko , I packed it for a four-day art and culture dive. The multiple internal pockets were perfect for organizing my gear, while the tablet pocket kept my device safe and easily accessible.

But yes, there are some downsides to this backpack too. The snaps are a bit tough to fasten , something I noticed while trying to secure the pockets quickly on a busy metro. And while it’s ideal for shorter trips, I found it a bit too compact for anything longer than a few days , unless you're a very light packer. But the backpack's benefits like its compact size, expandability, and organized storage make it a worthy investment, though the price tag is a bit steep for a 20L backpack.

  • Capacity: 20 L (expandable to 24 L)
  • Dimensions: 48.3 x 30.5 x 12.7 cm (expandable to 17.8 cm)
  • Weight: 1.6 kg
  • Material: Waterproof tarpaulin and zippers
  • Tablet pocket
  • Multiple internal pockets for organization
  • Retractable key leash
  • Hidden pocket for valuables
  • Magnetic water bottle pocket
  • Top access pocket for quick access to essentials

9. Minaal Carry On 2.0 (35L)

Best for minimalist digital nomads.

minaal carry on 2.0 digital nomad backpack

If you're looking for a more stylish look , the Minaal Carry On 2.0 will do it. It embodies minimalist design at its finest—it's sleek, compact, and strips away all unnecessary frills. But don't be deceived by its simple appearance, it's actually loaded with functionalities that make traveling incredibly easy.

You probably got the hint that I'm not a packing enthusiast. But when I took the Minaal Carry On 2.0 on a week-long conference trip to London, the full zip-around access proved to be very useful for packing and unpacking in various places I crashed. The ability to open it fully, like a suitcase , allowed me to organize and reach for my stuff with ease.

The adjustable DeviceNest compartment , which safely cradles your laptop, is another bonus. During my trip, it securely accommodated my 15-inch laptop and tablet without any problem . Although it's not the most budget-friendly option on our list , the quality and thoughtful design justify the investment, especially for minimalist digital nomads who value efficiency and style. The included rain cover can also come in handy!

If you prioritize a clean design and essential features over extensive compartments, the Minaal Carry On 2.0 could be your perfect travel buddy.

  • Dimensions: 55 x 35 x 20 cm
  • Weight: 1.42 kg
  • Material: Nylon fabric with PU coating and YKK zippers
  • Laptop Compartment: Fits up to 15” laptop
  • Full zip-around access
  • Rain cover included
  • Lockable zippers for added security
  • Adjustable laptop and device compartment

10. Nomatic Navigator Lite 15L

Best for light nomad traveling.

nomatic navigator lite 15l digital nomad backpack

Nomatic has done it again, landing another one of their backpacks, the Navigator Lite 15L , on our must-have list for light travel backpacks . We've recently had the chance to put this backpack to the test on several day trips and a few short business trips, and let me spill the tea... it's impressively lightweight without forgetting about storage or features.

The well-padded pockets for a laptop and tablet are very useful during those cramped subway rides in big cities, keeping your tech safe. And the water-resistant material ? It comes in handy during a sudden drizzle as you dart between downtown cafés. It's these thoughtful touches that show Nomatic's commitment to making life on the move a bit easier.

We really appreciate how the Navigator Lite retains the sleek, understated style of the Nomatic brand but feels noticeably lighter on the shoulders . Packing is also simple, with multiple internal pockets that are perfect for organizing essentials like headphones, chargers, and sunglasses. There's a spot for everything, which is a big deal for someone like me who likes to keep things tidy.

But no, it's not all perfect. The water bottle pocket lacks a bit of grip , and we found ourselves checking a few times to make sure my water bottle hadn't slipped out during a few hikes. Despite these minor points, the Navigator Lite’s lightweight build , combined with strategic expandability and easy luggage pass-through for attaching to a rolling suitcase , make it a standout choice.

  • Capacity: 15 L (expandable to 28 L)
  • Dimensions: 43.2 x 27.9 x 10.2 cm (expandable to 15.2 cm)
  • Weight: 0.9 kg
  • Material: 400-denier nylon by 330 polyester melange
  • Laptop compartment: Fits up to 16" laptop
  • Water bottle pocket
  • Top quick-grab pocket
  • Luggage pass-through

11. CabinZero Adv Pro (42L)

Best lightweight option.

cabinzero adv pro 42l digital nomad backpack

For those of us who can't stand heavy, bulky backpacks, the CabinZero Adv Pro 42L is a great alternative. It’s incredibly lightweight , which means carrying it around, even when fully packed, feels effortless. It lightens your load but also ensures you have all the storage space and features you need.

During a recent trip through Portugal, the built-in global luggage tracker, powered by Okoban , provided us with peace of mind. By registering our CabinZero bags online, each with its unique Okoban ID, we linked them directly to the WorldTracer system used by over 400 airlines and baggage handlers. This integration meant that if any of our bags were misplaced during flights, they'd be more easily traced and returned to us. Thankfully, we didn't need it, but still, cool feature to have!

The padded laptop sleeve has been crucial for keeping our tech secure on bumpy rides and during endless transits. However, we've noticed that the lack of organizational compartments can be a bit of a challenge , as everything tends to end up in one big jumble. This is something to consider if you're someone who likes to have a specific place for each item.

Its lightweight design, variety of sizes and colors, combined with effective waterproofing and the security of a luggage tracker , makes it a strong choice for anyone looking to travel comfortably without being weighed down. It's particularly well-suited for city adventures and short business trips.

  • Capacity: 42L
  • Material: Nylon 500 Denier Rip-Stop fabric
  • Laptop Sleeve: Fits up to 17" laptop
  • Padded laptop sleeve
  • Side compression straps
  • Built-in global luggage tracker, powered by Okoban

What to Consider Before Buying Your Digital Nomad Backpack

Now that you’ve seen our favorite picks for digital nomad backpacks, let’s focus on what really matters when choosing the right one for you. These considerations aren’t just about storage—they determine how well your backpack will fit into the digital nomad lifestyle , affecting everything from work to travel ease.

Optimal Size & Weight

The perfect backpack strikes a balance between being roomy enough to store all your stuff —like your laptop, tech accessories, clothing, and other personal items— and being lightweight enough not to be a burden during your travels. The backpack must be comfortable to carry in any situation, be it in a crowded airport terminal or while you're exploring new cities on foot. Many of us have learned the hard way that a heavy backpack can quickly wear you down. Remember, when it comes to backpacks for digital nomads, lighter is often better. An extra tip, if you're traveling with your girlfriend, make sure she gets a good backpack too, or you'll end up carrying it!

Meet Carry-On Requirements

Frequent flyers know the drill: navigating varying airline requirements can be tricky. And trust us, the last thing you want is to board a connecting flight, only to be told that your backpack is too large to be a carry-on. To avoid these types of situations and to dodge any extra annoying fees, opt for a backpack that adheres to the most common carry-on dimensions—typically no larger than 22 x 14 x 9 inches.

A Laptop Space

For us digital nomads , our laptop is our office on the go, connecting us to clients and projects worldwide. So yes, a backpack with a dedicated, well-padded laptop compartment is a priority when picking out your travel backpack. More than just safeguarding your device, this space needs to be easily accessible . It should ideally fit a variety of laptop sizes and if you have a larger laptop, double check it will actually fit before purchasing your new backpack.

Compartments Available

No one enjoys the frustration of digging through a disorganized backpack for a charger, only to find everything but what you're looking for. Efficient organization might seem like a minor detail , but it's crucial for a hassle-free digital nomad experience. A backpack designed with multiple compartments can transform your travels by neatly assigning a specific place for each item. This way, you can easily access what you need without the hassle , allowing you to spend more time enjoying what's around you, rather than rummaging through your belongings.

Durable Material

Do you want your travel plans dampened by a damaged bag? Didn't think so. That’s why choosing a backpack made from sturdy materials like nylon and polyester is super important. These fabrics are strong and lightweight but are also perfect for withstanding the tough love of travel. Remember the sprint through Bangkok during that sudden downpour I mentioned at the beginning of this article? My backpack's waterproof materials were a lifesaver! Everything inside stayed dry—from my clothes to my laptop. I didn't have to worry about soggy belongings (nor replace my laptop).

Security Features

When you're carrying all your essentials on your back, security shouldn't just be a second thought, it should be a priority. Backpacks equipped with lockable zippers and stealthy hidden pockets protect against theft, keeping your stuff safe as you explore busy marketplaces or travel via crowded public transportation. You can't watch your back all the time, and a backpack that skips security features could easily lead to lost or stolen items. Better be safe than sorry.

Of course, price is a huge consideration when picking out your nomad backpack. We digital nomads have varied budgets , and not everyone can or wants to splurge on gear. You often hear "you get what you pay for," especially when it comes to the durability and functionality of backpacks, but trust us, there are plenty of affordable options that still tick all the right boxes without emptying your bank account.

Comfort is absolutely critical, too. A backpack might have all the bells and whistles, but if it's a pain to carry, it's going to be more of a burden than a benefit. Make sure to look for one with padded shoulder straps, a breathable back panel, and an adjustable harness. Trust me, when you're navigating an all-day layover or exploring a new city on foot, a comfortable backpack can be the difference between a good day and a bad one. You want a backpack that feels like a part of your journey, not a load dragging you down.

These 12 Travel Tech Organizers Are Digital-Nomad Approved

nomad travel tech bag

As a full-time digital nomad for seven years (and a jet-setter for well over a decade), I've had my fair share of travel companions — some of whom were better than others. If there's one that has always been a ride-or-die, however, it's been my tech case.

Keeping all of my remote-work necessities protected means there's always a safe space for my bazillion charging cords, the portable batteries I seldom remember to charge, my portable hotspot, and all the airplane headphones I snag for backup — and I can always find what I need. Never mind that having all of this organized makes skating through security more seamless, too.

If you're shopping for a tech case for travel, there are a few things to think about, such as which devices you need to store, how much space you have in your personal item or luggage, price points, and the kinds of features you're focused on, like waterproofing and padding. Are you looking for something that can protect your gear in the great outdoors or look sleek in a business setting? Do you need to store a hard drive, an external battery, or a tablet? Should you get a full-on backpack or a smaller travel case just to harness your cords?

Keep those Qs in mind, and keep reading to see the travel tech organizers I can confidently recommend for wherever your adventures take you.

Best Compact Tech Case

Best Compact Tech Case

Dagne Dover Arlo Neoprene Tech Organizer ($50)

Dagne Dover is on a mission to build "problem-solving bags for all the problem-solving humans out there." And its various bags, backpacks, cases, and other travel accessories do just that. This compact tech organizer is no different.

Why we love it: I love the Arlo Neoprene Tech Organizer because it's more than just a cute cube. It keeps your accessories safe and dry with its 100 percent vegan shell and recycled lining, which is made from plastic bottles. And while it only weighs five ounces, it has 1.3 liters of volume. It unzips all the way flat and has two main pockets on each side, layered with elastic band organizers to stash more.

What to keep in mind: Note that this tech organizer is much smaller than the rest. It won't fit most devices, but it is ideal for organizing your cords, cables, and small accessories.

Best Sustainable Tech Case

Urth Zeolite Tech Organizer ($65)

Urth is a super-cool company because it gives back to the Earth with every purchase. In fact, it's committed to making a "10 times greater positive impact on the planet." It does this by designing products with low-impact materials and planting trees in areas of severe deforestation. It's already planted millions of trees.

Why we love it: Urth's Zeolite Tech Organizer offers easy storage space for all kinds of cables and small tech accessories. The weatherproof pouch is full of stretch pockets with 2.4 liters of space separated into 11 storage zones. And the best bit is that Urth plants one tree for every pouch purchased.

What to keep in mind: While Urth delivers all over the world, if you're already on the road, keep in mind that shipping can take longer outside of the United States. Standard shipping is three to five days within the US (one to two days for express) or eight to 18 days for shipping to the rest of the world.

Best Sectioned Tech Case

Peak Design Tech Pouch ($60)

Peak Design's tech pouch with a clamshell-style opening features origami-like pockets that maximize spatial efficiency.

Why we love it: This tech pouch has it all — ample pockets (including pockets within pockets), elastic loops, exterior handles, and a detachable strap (sold separately). An exterior pocket even has a cable pass-through so you can easily charge devices in the pouch without having cords dangling through the zipper. And it's made from water-resistant, weatherproof recycled nylon to keep those devices, chargers, and other items safe.

What to keep in mind: There are a whole lot of compartments in this tech pouch. While it's ideal for anyone who has a lot of pieces of gear they want to keep organized, it may not be necessary to have so many separate spaces. For some travelers, a simpler or smaller pouch might be preferred; this one measures about 4 x 9.5 x 6 inches.

Best Minimalist Tech Case

Fjällräven Gear Bag ($31, originally $35)

Fjällräven is a GOAT when it comes to travel gear like backpacks and cases. The company boasts lifetime repairs and free returns, but its multifaceted gear is made with heavy-duty material that makes sure you won't want to send your stuff back.

Why we love it: This gear bag is reasonably priced for one that doubles as a toiletry bag or first-aid kit. It's made of a durable, double-waxed G-1000 HeavyDuty material (organic cotton and recycled polyester) with a YKK zipper to protect whatever is inside from the elements. Plus, it's produced without PFCs , and it's just plain plain, which I prefer as a minimalist.

What to keep in mind: The bag is only two liters in volume, so it may not hold every piece of gear you've got. After all, there's only one main compartment with a zippered pocket and two open compartments. While it's been engineered to adventure with you, it could be tough to keep clean. You shouldn't wash, dry clean, or tumble dry the pouch; instead, you can scrub it with a soft brush and warm water.

Main Image

Best Travel Tech Organizer With Padded Protection

Eagle Creek Electronics Travel Organizer ($40)

Eagle Creek is my go-to when it comes to packing products. I couldn't live without my Eagle Creek packing cubes, but that's not all the company has to offer. The electronics travel organizer is also a favorite.

Why we love it: Eagle Creek's recycled and Bluesign-certified electronics organizer is super slim, but it doesn't skimp on pockets or protection. The back panel is padded and packed with layered stretch pockets, and there's a zippered mesh pocket on the opposite side. The case also features attachment loops to easily attach it to other gear.

What to keep in mind: The Eagle Creek mini organizer is still almost a foot long (11.5 inches), so it's not the smallest one out there, but you can probably squeeze a tablet in there to make sense of the space. There is also a mini version ($30) of it (which also comes in arguably cuter colors).

Best Slim and Sleek Travel Tech Case

Herschel Tech Organizer ($31, originally $45)

I'll just put it bluntly: I love Herschel. I love my everyday Herschel backpack(s) and laptop sleeve and all of the brand's travel accessories — including this sophisticated tech organizer.

Why we love it: Herschel's tech organizer — designed with its signature striped liner — is outfitted with pouch pockets, a zippered pocket, an elastic organizer, and a pen sleeve. At 0.4 liters, you can keep all of your tech accessories perfectly in place. The zippered pocket is ideal for small devices like a Kindle, while the other pockets can fit battery packs, a mouse, and more.

What to keep in mind: This tech organizer only comes in three colors: Raven Crosshatch (a gray), Black, and Black Cordura (another black). There are also no straps or loops on the bag, so it can seamlessly slip into your backpack, but it's not as functional to carry on its own.

Main Image

Best Mesh Tech Case

Case-Mate Travel Tech Organizer ($42)

Case-Mate is renowned for its travel accessories, including its tech cases. Its travel tech organizer is a classic, complete with compartments for every piece of gear you've been lugging around.

Why we love it: Case-Mate's tech organizer is lightly padded with multiple mesh pockets and elastic loops. One side features several stretch pockets and four loop organizers, while the other side boasts a bigger zippered pocket. There's also a zippered exterior pocket where you can simply slip your passport, phone, and other need-to-reach items at the airport.

What to keep in mind: Case-Mate's travel case is only lightly padded to protect your gear from bumps, but it's not waterproof. The brand is perhaps better known for its phone cases and waterproof phone pouches.

Main Image

Best Vegan Leather Tech Case

Bee & Kin Tech Organizer ($65)

Bee & Kin marries modern technology with classic designs. I'm talking backpack pockets with built-in phone chargers and tote bags with integrated LEDs. And this tech organizer has some fun features, too.

Why we love it: This 100 percent vegan leather and luxe neoprene case weighs only 0.07 pounds at 9.25 x 6.75 x 2 inches. It's beautiful and classy, but it doesn't sacrifice the security of your belongings for the delicate design. There are enough slip pockets for your converters and devices, plus a zippered mesh pocket for more. There are also elastic organizers for things like cords and earbuds.

What to keep in mind: While many of Bee & Kin's products have built-in technology, this organizer does not. You can, however, search the brand's products by technology if you're looking for a smart solution in backpack or tote form.

Main Image

Best Backpack Tech Organizer

Troubadour Apex Backpack ($245)

Troubadour's Apex Backpack is an all-around gem. You can take it on trips or use it for your daily commute to the office or the gym. Whatever the occasion, this backpack is sure to come in handy.

Why we love it: I love the Apex Backpack for a multitude of reasons: It's lightweight, waterproof, and roomy (it can even fit a 17-inch laptop), and it has a trolley sleeve to easily slide it on top of your rolling suitcase. There are plenty of pockets both inside and outside, including a zippered exterior pocket, a zippered shoulder strap pocket, two big bottle holders, and a front valuables pocket for key fobs and an AirTag . The breathable back panel and padded straps make it nice to wear, and it's already nice to look at, with an incredibly clean design made of recycled polyester and vegan leather.

What to keep in mind: This is a full-on backpack, not just a tech case. It has a capacity of 25 liters but weighs 2.2 pounds. So you probably won't be stuffing it into your other luggage; rather, this piece could serve as your personal item or carry-on.

Main Image

Best Double-Layer Tech Case

Bagsmart Electronic Organizer Large Double Layer Cable Bag ($19)

Bagsmart is recognized for its, well, smart bags, and this double-layer travel tech case is no exception. (Plus, it's pretty.)

Why we love it: The first layer of this tech case organizes all sorts of small items like USBs, chargers, and cables with a few elastic daisy chains and some smaller mesh pockets. The second layer can fit bulkier bits like power supplies, adapters, and external hard drives with adjustable padded dividers. It can even fit a 10.5-inch tablet or Kindle, as well as other travel accessories.

What to keep in mind: This tech case is water-resistant but not waterproof. So keep in mind that, while you can carry it on its own with its handle (or pack it into your backpack), your gear isn't 100 percent protected by the elements. It's also a bit bulkier than other options because it has two layers. For anyone with a lot of electronics and tech gear to pack up, however, that shouldn't pose a problem.

Main Image

Best Packable Tech Pouch

Tortuga Tech Organizer ($70)

The Tortuga Tech Organizer is a super-simple pouch that, at only 18 x 15 x 9.5 centimeters and 0.23 pounds, won't take up coveted space or add much weight to your backpack or personal item.

Why we love it: The pouch is as bare bones as it gets without sacrificing the basics. There are three sections with two zippered pockets, two mesh pockets, and an elastic daisy chain for cords. Its durable Shell200 material is waterproof to safeguard your gear. And while it's designed to fit in a Tortuga backpack, it's lightweight and flexible enough to toss into any piece of luggage.

What to keep in mind: The Tortuga Tech Organizer is a basic bag with some safe pockets, but there's not much more to it than that. Because it's quite small, you won't fit a whole lot of gear in here (and you definitely won't fit a laptop or iPad), but it has enough space for cables, chargers, headphones, adapters, SD cards, flash drives, and other easily tangled and misplaced items that are better off bound together.

Main Image

Best Convertible Tote For Tech

SLNT Faraday Convertible Tote Bag ($220)

SLNT offers a wealth of bags, wallets, sleeves, and more with its very own patented Faraday Cage technology, which blocks electromagnetic shields so no one can swipe your data.

Why we love it: This tote bag combines functionality and security. The bag, which can be carried in two different ways (as a tote or a backpack), features signal-blocking Faraday technology to secure your digital footprint. The adjustable shoulder straps discreetly tuck away when you want to wear it as a tote, and the main compartment is non-signal-blocking, so you can stash other everyday items that don't need that kind of protection. It has a patented Silent Pocket Faraday Cage laptop sleeve with a magnetic closure and multiple pockets for the rest of your tech. There are also two zippered pockets on the water-resistant exterior.

What to keep in mind: This bag is made of 100 percent recycled material with Duraflex premium hardware, so it's not exactly the most lightweight. It will add about three and a half pounds to your luggage if you toss it in your checked bag.

Hopefully, we’ve made it clear that your backpack is just as important as your passport and wallet! Before we get to our review, check out a few tips you should consider when choosing a travel backpack for your nomadic lifestyle.

Need to know more about what to put in your new shiny backpack? Check out our digital nomad packing list !

1. Your nomad backpack is carry-on compliant (unless…)

If you are going to travel through airports often, we think you should travel with a carry on backpack . Don’t get us wrong. Sometimes, you have to travel with something bigger, like if you are camping, traveling with tons of photography gear, leading a tour in Pakistan, or heading north for the winter.

Not doing any of those things? Then stick to a carry on backpack! Traveling with a carry on backpack means you get to avoid check-in fees and baggage carousels at busy airports.

Although  size limitations vary from airline to airline, generally, any backpack under 45-liters will be carry on compliant. Again, this varies by airline, but most international flights are more lenient (unless you’re flying with Ryan Air).

carry on backpack

Furthermore, most airlines allow between 15 to 22 pounds of carry-on luggage, so ideally your backpack’s base weight will weigh less than 4 pounds.

Even if you’re not flying, do you really want to lug more than 30 pounds around with you? Probably not…

Backpackers’ law states if there is space in your pack it will be filled! In other words, if you’re traveling with an 85-liter backpack, you WILL end up packing it full and preceding to lug it around every train, bus, and tuk-tuk that you board.

We get that being a digital nomad means carrying more electronics. Simplify your life and get a travel laptop that can do it all.

Generally, the best travel bags of somewhere between 30 and 45-liters, unless you plan to use air travel check-in. If you have a lot of electronics, camera gear, camping equipment, or clothes (we’ve all been there!), then a larger bag may make more sense.

2. Your nomad backpack is comfortable!

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you want to make sure your backpack is comfortable. There are a few things to look for. First, make sure your backpack is the right size. It’s best to take your measurements at home before you make an online purchase.

Many packs come in XS-XL sizes based on torso length and have adjustable straps to customize the fit even further.

You should also consider the padding on the shoulder and waist straps. On that note, make sure your bag has a waist strap because it will help to distribute the weight from your shoulders to your hips.

Padded straps prevent chafing and rubbing. Look for adjustable straps as well as straps that easily tuck away when your bag is not in use. The best travel backpacks tend to have stow-away systems for the straps.

Finally, check out how the backpack carries weight. Hiking backpacks, for example, carry weight closer to your body’s center of gravity. Many travel backpacks are shaped like capsules suitcases for organizational purposes, but this also means that you would NOT want to be hiking uphill with it very often.

3. Your nomad backpack is built to withstand your adventures

Maybe your idea of an adventure is an afternoon stroll to the nearest gelato shop. Maybe it’s a 100-mile trek through the uncharted jungle. No matter where you plan to adventure, get a nomad backpack fit for the task.

Check for durability and water resistance. Getting a pack with weather-resistant materials that can handle the elements is just as important in a drizzling city as it is out on a hike. You want to keep your stuff safe and protected from rain, mud, and beyond.

Make sure your nomad backpack also comes with a protective rain cover to keep your bag dry during torrential downpours. A lot of the best countries for digital nomads to base themselves are tropical destinations, but that means thunderstorms and downpours are especially prominent during monsoon seasons.

Are you Hiking?

While some of the best travel bags are geared for travel – like the Nomatic below, they’re often not designed for hiking. Some backpacks are designed for both travel AND hiking, but that usually means it’s not the best at either.

If you want a backpack that you can take on the trails, then pay attention to how the backpack holds its weight, the suspension system (if it even has one), the shoulder straps, and waist strap comfort.

Osprey Exos 58 hiking backpack

4. Your nomad backpack has a laptop compartment

Are you traveling with tech? These days you probably are, whether you’re traveling for pleasure for work.

If this is the case, make sure the sleeve is large enough for your particular laptop or tablet too! While you COULD also carry a laptop bag , it can be frustrating to carry an extra bag when you’re traveling indefinitely.

The most ideal scenario is a digital nomad backpack that serves as both a carry-on, laptop bag, AND a daypack. This means, at minimum, your backpack should have a laptop compartment. The exception to this rule is if you are set on traveling with a hiking backpack.

nomad backpack has a laptop compartment

5. Your nomad backpack is lightweight

Weight is important, but it’s not the only thing that matters. Most ultralight bags sacrifice ergonomics, weather resistance, and durable materials to make the lightest bag possible. It may be in your best interest to get a sturdier pack that weighs a bit more if you plan to carry a lot of heavy equipment.

If you can find a comfortable nomad backpack, built to last, and lightweight, then you have struck gold, my friend. Oftentimes there is a trade-off for durability and weight because hardy materials weigh more. You’ll need to strike a balance between the two.

Weight will matter more if you plan to carry your backpack for long distances. Understand how you plan to use your bag before buying the lightest or most heavy-duty pack!

Nomatic Travel Bag 40L (#1)

Nomatic Travel Bag 40 L

Considering the company is named Nomatic, it should come at NO surprise that they make one of the best nomad backpacks.

Nomatic Travel Bag is 40L of backpack-engineering-perfection. This is a carry on compliant backpack designed for modern, tech-savvy travelers – NOT for hikers/campers. (There is a 30-liter version of this pack as well!)

Not to be confused with the Nomatic Travel Pack (which we cover later) this brilliant piece of equipment comes with over 20 unique features including a shoe compartment, water bottle container, and a secure valuables pocket. Watch the video above to learn more about this bag’s design and features.

UPDATE for 2021:  Nomatic no longer sells or does business in the European Union, which is an unfortunate development. Those living in the EU should consider the next bag instead…

  • Modern and efficient
  • Perfect Size
  • Best organizational system
  • Urban environments only
  • Too much organization/flash for some

Is the Nomatic Bag 40 Liters for you?

If you are a modern traveler who spends a lot of time in urban environments, the Nomatic Travel Bag is going to be one of the best travel backpacks for you. This pack was designed specifically for people who live on the road. As long as you aren’t hiking or camping, it’s nearly impossible to beat this bag.

Our team felt this was their best nomad bag for a number of different reasons, in fact, they felt this bag pretty much knocked it out of the park when it came to a digital nomad pack. Some of the stand-out features for them included a side pocket where they could keep all their important documents and keep their passport safe as well as a dedicated laptop sleeve. On top of that, they loved how tough, durable and weather resistant the material of the bag was and how high quality the construction felt.

Tortuga Travel Pack (#2)

Tortuga Travel Backpack 40L

With their Travel Pack model, US-brand Tortuga promises to deliver a travel bag that has the portability and ergonomic qualities of a hiking backpack with the organizational stance and ease of packing that comes with a suitcase.

That said, we do not recommend this backpack for hiking… refer to our reviews on hiking backpacks instead.

The main compartment can carry just about anything. Both sizes (30-liters and 40-liters) of the Outbreaker carry 17” laptops, and also tablets of up to 9.7”. It also includes a front organizational pocket, mesh pockets for electronic accessories, and a large main space for clothing too.

It’s quality build, weather-resistant material, intuitive design, and fantastic organization make this the perfect nomad bag for anyone who wants to travel light and in style.

For more information on its features, check out our must-read Tortuga Travel Pack review.

Is the Tortuga Travel Pack for you?

tortuga travel backpack

This is the perfect nomad bag to keep your things organized and secure. As long as you are not primarily hiking, this is a hard bag to beat.

Our team felt this was one of the most comfortable bags on this list with the padded shoulder straps and removable waist belts that really help to take the weight off your aching body! Another design feature they loved was the rectangular shape of the bag which allowed them to use packing and camera cubes in a more effective way. They also felt the laptop and accessories section was a genius idea for keeping their electronics separate from their clothing.

Aer Travel Pack 3 (#3)

aer travel pack 2 backpack

The Aer Travel Pack 3 is a well designed bag made for backpackers by backpackers. It has a dedicated laptop sleeve, many pockets of different shapes and sizes, a shoe pocket, and a handle to carry like a duffle bag. You can also slip the back through the handle of a wheeled suitcase if you are traveling with both.

With some strategic packing you can use this bag for long-term travel. It’s the perfect size to use as your carry on, then use it as your daypack when at your destination. Carrying two backpacks with these seperate purposes is not longer necessary with the Aer Travel Pack 3.

You can read the full Aer Travel Pack review here .

  • Shoe pocket
  • Minimalist design
  • Dedicated laptop area
  • Carry on approved
  • Small water bottle holder
  • No raincover

Is the Aer Travel Pack 3 for me?

The Aer Travel Pack 3 is for anyone that wants the convenience of one-bag travel done well. If you know how to pack light, the features of the backpack will keep you organized without the checked bag fees.

Our team were super impressed by this nomad travel bag and one of the features they felt put it above the rest was the dedicated laptop pocket that kept their most important bit of kit away from all their other gear. They also really loved that the pack featured 3 different lockable compartments including the laptop pocket and the large main compartment.

Peak Design Travel Backpack (#4)

main compartment of Peak Design travel backpack

This bag is another awesome nomad backpack that strikes a balance between durability, comfort, and design.

This pack was also designed to accommodate photographers with camera gear, though you do not have to be a photographer to use it. The Peak Design travel backpack’s main compartment can be accessed from the back, front, and both sides, though its main access point is a full zipper from the back.

There is a good amount of external and internal pockets as well as a few hidden ones to keep your things organized. The interior pockets are perfect for storing your electronics, smaller items, and books.

One of my favorite parts about this bag is the side pockets’ materials. They are made from durable nylon, not mesh, which is often the first material to give out on backpacks. I am also a big fan of the easy to stow waist straps for when you are en route or storing your backpack away.

  • Durable in every way
  • Straps are easy to stow
  • Accessibility and pockets
  • Zippers are not heavy-duty

Is the Peak Design 40 Liter Backpack for you?

Peak Design Travel Pack 45L

If you want an ultra-modern and sleek backpack, look no further than Peak Design’s travel backpack. This is a versatile, urban-style backpack perfect for nomads.

Our team really loved how sturdy and hardwearing this pack felt, especially for long stints on the road and day-to-day abuse. On top of that our team really likes the versatility of this backpack, it means they can use it for transporting their gear when changing cities but equally they can pack in our for day trips and photography expeditions around each new stop.

Tortuga Setout Backpack (#5)

Tortuga Setout Backpack

The Tortuga Setout Backpack is essentially a bare-bone version of the Tortuga Outbreaker we reviewed above.

Like its sister, this pack has a book-style opening like a suitcase – and its dedicated laptop and tablet sleeves that protect your tech gear. It also has a volume of 45 liters (with a 35-liter version also available if that’s a little too much), and an overall weight of less than 2 kg.

The backpack shoulder straps can be hidden away, and there’s even a detachable hip belt to help with carrying!

  • Suitcase style opening opening
  • Dedicated laptop and tablet sleeves
  • Detachable hip belt
  • Fairly plain design
  • Not as feature-rich as the Outbreaker

Is the Tortuga Setout Backpack for me?

It’s not as fully featured as the aforementioned Tortuga Outbreaker, but it’s more affordable!

Our team liked that Tortuga offered a variety of different bags. Some of our team were looking for something a little simpler than the Outbreaker that kept the most important features but did away with pointless extras that cost more. Our team loved that this bag still included the large clamshell opening which really made them able to maximise the space available for all their gear.

REI Co-Op Ruckpack for Men + Women (40 liters)

The rucksack

REI’s updated Ruckpack 40 is one of their finest backpacks!

The Ruckpack is marketed as both a travel bag and a hiking bag – and we completely agree! While certainly a bit more on the camping-side than the travel-side, this bag has plenty of organizational compartments.

REI’s bags are extremely durable, so no matter where in the world you take this bag it’ll stand the test of time (while also being carry-on compliant!)

The main drawback is that there is not a laptop compartment, but we’ve still traveled with a computer and this backpack.

In hiking fashion, this bag has a separate version for women designed with harness straps that curve around the chest, a shortened torso length, and longer hip belt strap.

The hip belt is padded and wide enough to off real support, and the easy-to-remove top lid works great as a day pack or smaller bag to keep valuables when you’re on a plane, bus, or even in a tent!

I love this backpack and think it’s one of the best travel backpacks if you want a backpack that can do it all. This thing can go deep in the woods and under your hostel bunk bed. Oh, it’s affordable too.

  • Affordable and high quality
  • Good pocket organization
  • Great back support
  • No laptop compartment
  • Preferable for hikers/campers
  • Too heavy for ultra-light campers

Is the REI Co-Op Ruckpack the best bag for you?

It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the Nomatic, but if you plan to hike a lot on your travels then it’s the better choice.

Our team love to hike so this bag really stood out to them as being unique amongst the other options available. They loved how durable the pack was, especially for use on the trails and in challenging weather conditions. They also felt it fit inside it a massive amount of gear whilst still easily fitting into airline overhead compartments with ease.

Nomatic Travel Pack

The Nomatic Travel Pack is another great offering by Nomatic! This bag is 20-liters, but it expands to 30-liters, so it’s great for the minimalist. This pack still has 20+ features, like an internal divider to separate clean and dirty clothing, a shoe compartment, a compression packing cube, strap system to go from backpack to briefcase, and a few hidden pockets.

If that wasn’t enough, the bag also contains a sleeve for a laptop of up to 15” and a pocket with RFID-blocking technology for the protection of your electronic data!

UPDATE for 2021 : Nomatic is not available for purchase for those living in the EU.

  • Internal divider
  • Great for minimalist
  • Weight of 1.9 kg
  • Still expensive

Is the Nomatic Travel Pack for me?

The 20+10 liter Nomatic Travel Pack is a great alternative to the 40-liter Nomatic travel bag because of its wealth of features for such a small space. If you don’t need a pack much more than a few shirts and your laptop, then this is a great bag for you.

Nomatic is one of our team’s favourite brands when it comes to packing up their digital nomad gear and our team particularly loved that they offer different sizes. The expandable section was a godsend for those of us who like to pack light but inevitably end up collecting various trinkets and useless crap along the way!!

Tropicfeel Shell Backpack

Shell Backpack

The Shell by Tropicfeel is a little to medium backpack sized with a big concept. Firstly, it is a 3 in 1 extendable backpack that begins life as a 22 liter pack, rolls up to 30 litres and then with the addition of a detachable pouch goes all the way to 40 litres.

As well as being a 3-in-1 backpack (which you can easily adapt to use as day pack, overnight pack and carry-on pack), the Shell also has another awesome feature – a little, mini drop in pull out travel roll up wardrobe!

Keeping everything tidy, easily accessible and organized during your travels has never been so easy. On top of that, the recycled material is also weather and water-resistant.

  • Truly novel and unique
  • Packs up easily
  • Fairly priced
  • Not great for hiking
  • Not big enough for big trips
  • Not cheap (yet not expensive)

Is the Tropicfeel Shell the best bag for you?

If you want to keep all of your belongings organized, be flexible with the volume of your backpack and tick off the sleek-style box, the Tropicfeel Sheel is ideal for you. It’s also great for minimal packers who like everything to have a place.

Our team were super impressed by the functionality of the Tropicfeel Shell and how well it expands when needed. It might not expand in the way the Nomatic does, but that’s what they felt worked well here. The kangaroo pouch on the bottom and attachable packing cube on the front was a lighter solution for temporarily adding extra gear like throwing an extra pair of trainers on the bottom of your pack and gym gear on the front.

Tortuga Setout Laptop Backpack

Tortuga Women Setout Backpack

The Tortuga Setout Laptop Backpack is the smaller version of their first Setout! This bag is a 25-liter laptop bag perfect for the ultra-minimalist. It still has plenty of organizational-features and a secure area for your laptop, easy to lock zippers, and a luggage handle pass-through.

If you are pretty set on travel ultra-light, you could make this work as a nomad backpack, but ultimately, this bag was designed to be a laptop bag/day pack for air travel. Still, we applaud the nomads that travel with just 25-liters of gear.

Read our complete Tortuga Setout Laptop Backpack Review here.

  • Dedicated Laptop and Tablet Area
  • Pricey for a 25-liter bag
  • Too small for some

Is the Tortuga Laptop Backpack for me?

It is not as fully-featured as the aforementioned Tortuga backpacks, but it’s perfect if you want to keep it ultralight. That said, most travelers will need something bigger.

Our team were pretty excited to see a smaller bag on the list as a great alternative option. A few of those are super lightweight travellers but for the others, they felt this bag was the perfect companion as a “front pack” along with a larger main backpack. They loved that for the size it still included a dedicated laptop section too.

incase eo best travel bags

The EO travel backpack is known for making stylish business backpacks. The EO accommodates a 17-inch laptop and has tons of options for internal organization.

The main compartment has plenty of storage space, and it expands 35% to fit all of the clothes you may need. You can also maintain a slimmer profile if you are just using it for layovers and weekend trips.

  • Fits up to a 17-inch laptop
  • Padded back panels
  • The zippable laptop compartment makes security checks a breeze
  • Only for minimalists
  • Not as feature-rich as other bags

Is the Incase EO Carry on for me?

This is an excellent travel backpack for air travel and nomads on business. Sometimes slimmer is better, so you can travel without bulk.

For those on the team travelling with larger laptops and electronics, they felt this was the perfect solution. They told us that it allowed them to carry a decent amount of gear without becoming mega heavy or unwieldy. The expandable section also came in useful for those times when our guys needed to chuck in a few extra sets of undies!

LowePro ProTactic 450 AW (45 liters)

The LowePro 450

Over the years, we’ve looked at a ton of camera backpacks, yet we always come back to the LowePro because they are designed with professional photographers in mind. This means this bag can safely and securely  fit 2 DSLR’s, up to 8 lenses, and a laptop.

The bag allows for customization, so you can create compartments personalized for your photography needs. The only drawback is its weight, but that’s the price you pay for ultimate durability and customization. You can guarantee the LowePro 450 AW is 100% carry on compliant.

The LowePro 450 comes at a hefty price tag, but it’s worth it. Not only do you get this amazing camera bag, but it also comes with a bunch of accessories including a bottle pouch, and a rain case. If you are looking for the best camera backpack – this is it!

  • Tons of awesome features
  • Customizable
  • Dedicated laptop sleeve
  • Only good for hardcore photographers

Is the LowePro 450 AW the best bag for you?

While pricey, this bag has everything you’ll ever need as a photographer. If you are a nomad traveling with a ton of photography gear, then this is the bag for you.

The photographers on our team felt this was their best nomad pack for their unique needs. The ability to keep all their camera gear organised and safe was of paramount importance to them and this bag did exactly that. The other important feature for them was the side opening where they could get easy access to their camera when configured correctly.

Stubble & Co Adventure Bag

nomad travel tech bag

The Adventure Bag from Stubble & Co is possibly the most perfectly designed carry-on-sized travel bag we’ve ever had the chance of using.

This bag is awesome if you’re a busy nomad with heaps of different bits of gear that need to be kept organised. Like many popular bags this one opens in a clamshell fashion, but what makes it stand apart from the rest is the format inside. Rather than being just one massive open area, this bag opens to two deep sections divided up into a series of different-sized zippered pockets.

We’re massive fans of this and it helps us keep all our gear super organised and fits our packing cubes in perfectly. For us having heaps of tech gear, we use some of the compartments for things like hard drives, wires, and GoPro accessories for example and the larger ones for our clothes.

In terms of capacity, it offers a great size for both long backpacking trips, weekend breaks and short holidays. The size also means the bag is compliant for carry-on travel which is great for those of us who are moving frequently.

  • Separate laptop compartment
  • Clamshell opening
  • Lots of organisation
  • Shape is a little boxy
  • Have to completely open bag to access anything

Is The Adventure Bag the best bag for you?

I love the functionality of this bag for both long and short-term trips alike. The high quality of the materials and construction also gives me confidence in the bag’s ability to cope with the sort of abuse that comes with backpacking too!

Whilst the bag isn’t cheap, it’s also not super expensive either and it’s pretty in line with other backpacks you might buy for longer trips whilst offering so much more in terms of features.

Now, you  could spend a fat chunk of $$$ on the WRONG present for someone. Wrong size hiking boots, wrong fit backpack, wrong shape sleeping bag… As any adventurer will tell you, gear is a personal choice.

So give the adventurer in your life the gift of convenience: buy them an REI Co-op gift card!  REI is The Broke Backpacker’s retailer of choice for ALL things outdoors, and an REI gift card is the perfect present you can buy from them. And then you won’t have to keep the receipt. 😉

To test these packs and find the best nomadic backpack for you, we decided to take each one for a thorough test drive and did it over the course of a few weeks. A few different team members took each bag out so on different trips so we could get some varied feedback and experiences.

Packability

A backpack is designed to carry stuff … but a digital nomad backpack is designed to carry expensive and important gear that needs to be kept organised and safe.

So when we looked at each of these packs we awards extra points for how well each facilitated effective packing, unpacking and organising. Being able to unpack and retrieve items quickly is just as important as being able to fit all your gear inside. So both of these elements were just as important when picking out the best bags.

Weight and Comfort of Carrying

If a pack is overly heavy or awkward to carry then carrying it day to day, especially from country to country, can be tiring and uncomfortable. When it comes to picking out a backpack for a digital nomad, we had to take into consideration that laptops, hard drives, wires and other accessories can get pretty heavy after a while.

So backpacks that are light, have good shoulder straps and allow good weight balance was awarded max points.

Functionality

In order to test out how well a pack fulfilled its primary purpose we used it for this purpose. For example, digital nomad backpacks usually carry laptops, hard drives, tablets, and sometimes touchpads as well as a whole load of notebooks and journals.

So organisation, comfort and safety were our primary concerns when compiling this list. You get the idea right?

Some people say that travel gear doesn’t need to look good as long as it functions. Well, those folks clearly aren’t on the TBB team because we think you can always look sexy whether you’re taking a red-eye or heading down to Canggu for another almond latte with your typewriter!

Durability and Weatherproofing

Ideally, in order to really test out how durable a backpack is we would drop it from a plane and then run over it. Unfortunately, being mostly millennials, we’ve blown that budget on smashed avocados!

Instead, we inspected the build quality of each bag looking in particular at areas like the traction of the zippers, seam sewing, pressure points where most bags wear down as well as the materials used.

Another important area to test was how waterproof each bag was, after all, they’ve got your laptop, camera and other gear that needs to be kept dry inside! So we got even more high-tech and poured a pint or two of water over each bag and checked for leaks!

Still have some questions about the best nomad backpacks? No problem! We’ve listed and answered the most commonly asked questions below. Here’s what people usually want to know:

What is the overall best nomad backpack?

We definitely love the Nomatic Travel Bag , but the Aer Travel Pack 3 and the Tortuga Outbreaker are strong competitors.

Which backpacks should digital nomads get?

Digital nomads need to keep their electronics safe. That’s why the Nomatic Travel Bag 40L is ideal for your adventures.

How much capacity do nomad backpacks normally have?

Nomad backpacks usually have a capacity between 35-45 liters which makes them ideal to carry the essentials on day trips and short hikes.

What does a nomad backpack need?

That always depends on your travel style, but generally, comfort, size and durability are the main factors for a good backpack. Style, of course, can sometimes play a role as well.

3. Bange Travel backpack 35L

Bange Travel Backpack 35L

Bange Travel Backpack 35L

This backpack is well made with great attention to detail.

It’s compliant as carry-on luggage and yet it’s still large enough to store everything you need when going on short trips.

There are some concerns over its long-term reliability though, which I’ll go into in greater detail below.

BANGE 35L Travel Backpack,Flight Approved Carry On Backpack for International

One of the top budget Nomad Backpacks

  • This backpack is lightweight, yet provides ample storage space for long trips.
  • It is approved by airlines as a carry-on bag, so you don’t have to worry about checking it in.
  • It is made of water-resistant material , so your belongings are safe and dry during travel.
  • It has a large 17-inch laptop compartment, so you can keep your laptop safe and secure.
  • The adjustable straps and padded back panel ensure comfort and stability when carrying the backpack.

Concerns over long-term durability

  • The straps may be too tight for some users .
  • The backpack may not provide enough space for larger items .
  • The laptop compartment may not fit all types of laptops .
  • May not last a long time with consistent use.

Our Score: 65/100

The Bange 35L Travel Backpack is perfect for going on a weekend trip as it fits within the requirements of most airlines as a carry-on bag.

The laptop space is spacious enough to fit my 17″ laptop , along with all other belongings securely, plus it has great cushioning protection for my items.

Additionally, its waterproof design keeps everything dry from an unexpected rain shower, which here in Bali I am very used to!

My only concern is that it will not last a long time with consistent use . This is the feedback that is repeated within the Amazon customer reviews, so I feel it is only a matter of time before the backpack begins to break.

With a 65 rating out of 100 potential points given by our internal rating system, I would suggest that you can buy yourself one right away for short trips, but for anything longer, consider a more reliable alternative .

NOMATIC Navigator Travel Backpack - 32L Backpack with Laptop Compartment

Our Full Review on Bange Travel Backpack 35L

Which Digital Nomad Backpack To Choose?

After reviewing the backpacks above, and using our rating system, we would suggest that the Nomatic backpack range is the most reliable nomad backpack out there.

There are understandably more expensive than the budget options available on Amazon, but it’s sometimes better to have a pricey backpack that lasts for years – rather than a cheaper backpack that breaks after a few months.

If we had to pick our absolutely favorite digital nomad backpack for 2023 – it would be the Nomatic Navigator Lite .

They have managed to combine elegance, style, and reliability to provide an all-around great travel bag.

Welcome to the Digital Nomad Packing List. If you’re a frequent Pack Hacker visitor, you probably already know what a digital nomad is. If not, here’s a definition from Wikipedia: “Digital Nomads are a type of people who use telecommunications technologies to earn a living and, more generally, conduct their lives in a nomadic manner.”

While a little jargony, that definition certainly fits the bill. This list has everything you need to travel the world while working remotely.

We’re here to guide you through the ordeal that is preparing for such a journey. We’ve done the research, we’ve done the testing, we’ve done the traveling, and we’ve distilled it all down into one list with everything you need to succeed.

Now, before we jump into the specifics, we know that what works for some isn’t going to work for others—trust us, we get it (even the Pack Hacker team differs when it comes to certain gear). So, if the items on this list aren’t floating your boat, don’t worry. There are plenty of other options out there—and we’re here to help. We have more packing lists , guides , and reviews that’ll help you find what works for you.

The tech & productivity and miscellaneous sections of our list are all unisex, while bags, clothing & accessories, and toiletries & personal care are split into men’s or women’s focused items. Whether you’re currently traveling the world as a digital nomad, planning to, or wishing you could, it’s our hope that this list will not only help you prepare for your trip but give you the confidence to know that it isn’t nearly as stressful as you might think.

Standalone bags & organizers.

These are the big hitter bags and organizers that will be used to carry everything on this list. We’re opting for a one bag travel method (well, and a sling). All the items on this list can fit into the main travel pack, although we usually opt to pull out the sling for air travel.

Whether you’re on a transatlantic flight, heading to the coworking space to get some work done, or going on a day hike just outside the city—we have an organization combo for you.

  • Men's Focused
  • Women's Focused

Digital Nomad Packing List Bags Tom

The Aer Travel Pack 3 is the latest iteration of one of our favorite bags. Its comfortable harness system is updated with well-cushioned straps and load lifters to help keep the weight off your shoulders. There’s also an option to add a hip belt, though it’s sold separately. The deep bucket shape is easy to pack, effortlessly fitting packing cubes and pouches. For everything else, there’s the front compartment with plenty of liner pockets for smaller gear, and a couple of other sneaky compartments, like a designated spot for storing an AirTag. Though we like this pack for its professional look that doesn’t single you out as a tourist, most bags around this 35L size work for carry-on travel.

Aer Travel Pack 3 Small

For the women’s list, we went with the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small. It’s the 28 liter model of the Travel Pack 3—the latest version of one of our favorite bags. You can always size up to the 35 liter if you want, though we find this size a lot more comfortable on a smaller frame. The harness system has well-cushioned straps and load lifters to help keep the weight off your shoulders. There’s also an option to add a hip belt, though it’s sold separately. The deep bucket shape makes it easy to pack cubes and pouches. For everything else, there’s the front compartment with plenty of liner pockets for smaller gear, and a couple of other sneaky compartments, like a designated spot for storing an AirTag. We like this pack because its professional look won’t single you out as a tourist, though most bags around this size will work.

Bellroy Venture Ready Sling 2.5L

We like pairing slings with travel packs because they allow quick access to daily essentials. The Bellroy Venture Ready Sling has a spot for all the everyday carry items on this list. Keep your passport in the back zipper pocket for extra security. Then, put your battery bank and the Peak Design Mobile Tripod behind the divider inside. Meanwhile, the front pocket is great for smaller accessories. It has a divider that keeps you organized, so you’re not fishing around for your AirPods and lip balm. Put your keys on one side and tiny accessories on the other, and you’ll always be able to grab them. The main compartment has plenty of space for everything else we need, including a phone and wallet. This functions as our personal item for air travel and days out on the town. Keep it tight to your chest while in transit, or loosen the strap and have it closer to your hip for a more casual look. Since the buckle is near the bag instead of centered on your back, it won’t dig into your spine when paired with the Aer Travel Pack 3. Regardless of how you wear it, this sling holds your travel essentials and looks good doing it. Everything on this list fits in this backpack and sling combo.

Matador ReFraction Packable Backpack

For days when you need more space than a sling but less than travel-pack sized capacity, the Matador ReFraction Packable Backpack has you covered. It fits in the palm of your hand and expands to 16 liters. This is handy for grabbing groceries, day trips to the beach, or loading in-flight essentials into if you’re asked to check your main bag before boarding. In that case, you can put anything you need to keep a close eye on in here and use it as your carry-on or personal item. There’s plenty of storage space for whatever you need to fit inside, and its sleek look is at home with the minimal aesthetic on this list.

lock  Pro Members get up to 20% off Matador

Moment Crossbody Wallet

This Crossbody Wallet from Moment stores all of our sensitive information. It has enough space for a passport and documents like a boarding pass, transit card, and proof of immunization. It fits great inside a sling for everyday use as a travel wallet but also comes with a shoulder and wrist strap. We like to carry it on its own when we don’t need the capacity of a sling and want to look a bit more dressed up.

Allett Travel Wallet

We like the Allett Travel Wallet for storing sensitive info. The ripstop nylon material is thin and lightweight yet still has enough space for a few cards, a passport, and documents like a boarding pass, transit card, and proof of immunizations. With everything in one place, you’ll speed through customs while RFID blocking keeps your data safe. Separate cash slots help you keep currency separated when you’re country-hopping, and there’s even a pen if your airline doesn’t provide one for the declaration form—a surprising amount of function in a small package.

RE:FORM RE:02 (Card Holder)

The RE:FORM RE:02 Card Holder is our minimalist wallet daily driver for essential cards. It’s incredibly slim, durable, and lightweight, so it doesn’t take up much space in a pocket or sling. However, cash can be a little hard to squeeze inside, and there’s no space for coins in this model. This means you’ll need another place to store loose change if you’re traveling to a place where cash is still king.

Tom Bihn Color Zipper Ghost Whale Organizer Pouches

All the small gear on this list has to go somewhere, so we use TOM BIHN Ghost Whale Pouches to keep it organized. We’re bringing along three that we move between bags as-needed. The first has all of our tiny tech accessories that are easy to lose even in a tech pouch. The second is for small toiletries, like tweezers and nail clippers. Last up is first aid items, which we’ve taken from a pre-made kit and leave in our travel pack just in case. While these pouches come in a ton of sizes, we opt for the smallest since it’s low-profile and just big enough for our gear.

Clothing & Accessories

When you only have room for a few key pieces, you need to make each one count. In this wardrobe, we’re focused on versatile clothing with a monochromatic color scheme (AKA, all black). In addition to being undeniably badass, all-black works well because you can use it in a wide variety of environments—from formal to casual and everything in between. It also helps conceal stains and allows you to easily swap and mix items as they get dirty or smelly.

These options will carry you through any climate, which is essential for travelers who find themselves on both tropical islands and in land-locked cities.

Digital Nomad Packing List Outfit Tom

The Woolx Reaction Boxer Briefs are made with Merino wool, which means you can wear them a few times between washes. They’ve been one of our go-tos for the past five years, and you can get about 90 wears per pair before they start wearing down. If you go all-black like us, we recommend sewing different color threads into an inside seam. It’ll help you keep track of which underwear you've been wearing and which ones need to be washed.

Darn Tough Tactical No-Show Light Sock

Darn Tough’s Tactical No Show Light Socks are a bit of a mouthful, but they're great for everyday use. They offer a bit more durability and cushion than your average cotton sock. Darn Tough even offers a lifetime warranty that we’ve tested ourselves. Even though they’re on the pricier side, it’s safe to say that one purchase gets you socks for life.

Outlier Ultrafine Merino T-Shirt Review

Think of the Outlier Ultrafine Merino T-Shirt as your ultimate basic, whether you’re heading to a coworking space or spending the day wandering around a museum. Outlier changes their products all the time, but the Ultrafine has been a reliable staple year after year. We like the boxy shape of Cut 2, but there are other fits to choose from. We’re bringing two of these shirts so we have an extra in rotation.

Outlier Dreamweight T

Outlier’s Dreamweight Merino T-Shirt is a soft shirt good for pretty much anything. It’s made with 75% 16.5 micron merino wool spun with 25% nylon staple fibers, which is just a fancy way of saying that this shirt is super lightweight and comfortable. Plus, it’s great in both hot and cold climates, so it adds layering versatility.

Wool & Prince Pocket Tee

The Wool & Prince Pocket Tee is made for casual days. The pocket design gives it the feel of an everyday t-shirt, and while the pocket is technically functional, it’s more for style than anything. Or, if you’re desperate, to hold a few loose coins when your pants pockets are too full. We’ve all been there. It’s made with 17.5 micron wool and features two small nylon filaments to increase durability, which essentially means reduced pilling and increased shrink resistance—great for extended time on the road.

Wool & Prince Waffle Crew Neck Sweatshirt

The Waffle Crew Neck Sweatshirt from Wool & Prince can be worn as a base layer on colder days or as a standalone long-sleeved shirt—a key layering piece on this list. It’s thick enough to add warmth when you need it but won’t have you overheating when you don’t. It’s more like a soft merino t-shirt—not a fuzzy wool sweater.

Wool & Prince Button-Down Oxford Review

You won’t always need to dress up, but the Wool & Prince Button-Down Oxford is great for meeting with clients on the road or going on a date with someone you meet while traveling. There are a ton of different styles and weights available online, so you can find what feels most natural to you.

lululemon Commission Classic-Fit Short 7″ Warpstreme

The lululemon Comission Short is an everyday short with ABC (anti-ball crushing) technology for extra comfort. The material is a stretchy and breathable blend of recycled polyester and Elastomultiester (say that ten times fast), which makes them great for long days of walking around. We’ve found that they can get a bit smelly if you wear them frequently in hot weather, though it’s nothing laundry day doesn’t fix.

Outlier New Way Shorts Review

From far enough away, the Outlier New Way Shorts pass as a sleek chino. The style is versatile, whether you’re meeting up with some fellow Digital Nomads or spending a day walking around a busy market. These shorts double as swim trunks, too, with lightweight and breathable nylon material and a drawstring for a tailored fit. You get two uses out of one pair—the ultimate win-win.

Ten Thousand Interval Short

Packing a capsule wardrobe may make you think twice about gear that serves just one purpose, but we like having something for workouts and lounging around on a trip. The Ten Thousand Interval Shorts are polyester and spandex, so they don't add much weight to my pack, and they’re incredibly comfortable during long yoga sessions or walks on the beach. There’s a zippered pocket on the front for cash, and two stretchy pockets on the inside fit a key or standard-size phone.

lululemon ABC Pant (Slim Warpstreme)

Whether you're working in a coffee shop or exploring the city, the lululemon ABC Pant’s thin, breathable Warpstreme fabric has the right amount of stretch for just about any activity and has wrinkle-resistance for long days of travel. We use these for everyday wear, and they’re easy to dress up or down. There’s even a hidden zippered pocket for stashing an ID or card if you want to leave your wallet behind. Handy!

Outlier Slim Dungarees Black

The Outlier Slim Dungarees are a staple for most of our one-bag loadouts. They're thick but still retain the breathability and stretch you want for travel. Also, they're super durable, which is a must while country-hopping. They still look slick and perform well for everyday wear.

Arcade Atlas Belt

You’ll be going through a lot of airport security lines, which is where the Arcade Atlas Belt’s plastic buckle comes in. You should be able to go through the metal detector without taking it off, but its tapered A2 buckle is quick to refasten if you have to remove it. The stretchy belt is made with 85% post-consumer recycled REPREVE polyester and has reinforced edges, so it’s comfortable on long plane rides or if your weight fluctuates while traveling.

Unbound Merino Compact Travel Hoodie

The Unbound Merino Compact Travel Hoodie is exactly what it says it is: a travel hoodie. What sets it apart is its light weight, packability, and lack of drawstrings—who needs ‘em anyway? You may find it a bit thin if you’re used to thick cotton sweatshirts, but it’s easy to layer if you need extra warmth.

Branwyn Essential Bralette

The Branwyn Essential Bralette is made with Merino wool and has enough support and shoulder adjustability to be comfortable all day long. There’s no underwire, so it folds easily into a small packing cube. It even converts to a cross-back strap design, so you’re not limited in your shirt styles. For C-cup sizes or larger, opt for the Essential Busty Bra, which has a similar design with added support.

Branwyn Essential Bikini

For the days a thong just won’t cut it. The Essential Bikini from Branwyn is made with Merino wool to wick away moisture throughout the day. It’s a great material for base layers, though you’ll still need to wash it between wears. Don’t worry, though—it dries fast!

Branwyn Essential Thong

The Essential Bikini from Branwyn is made with Merino wool, which is something we like to see in base layers like underwear. We’re bringing two pairs in neutral and black, since we prefer to play it safe with panty lines.

THINX Super Hiphugger

This period-proof underwear is an eco-friendly alternative to single-use sanitary products. It comes in a few different styles, so you should be able to find one that matches your flow. You can always swap it out for a Diva Cup or similar alternative, but we like that these act as a backup pair of underwear even off our cycle.

Darn Tough Solid Top Down No Show Invisible Light

Darn Tough describes these as, “The toughest sock you’ll never see,” and we have to agree. These socks are durable, breathable, and naturally antimicrobial, so you can wear them multiple times. They also stay in place with no slipping or bunching. Darn Tough even offers a lifetime warranty that we’ve tested ourselves. They’re on the pricier side, but it’s safe to say that one purchase gets you socks for life.

Icebreaker 175 Everyday Cami

Icebreaker’s Everyday Cami works well on its own as a tank or additional layer under any other item on this list. It packs down super small and the straps are adjustable so that you can find the right fit.

wayre Shift & Snap Tank

On hot days, you’ll be happy to have this wayre Shift & Snap Tank. Its loose design and side slits keep the air flowing, though it may feel a little high if you’re not used to showing skin. The silk-like material is lightweight, dries super fast, and has anti-odor protection, which is ideal for multiple days of wear.

Aday Snap To It Tank Top

Made with technical silk, this Snap To It Tank Top can be formal when necessary but not so formal that you can’t wear it every day. It’s stretchy and wrinkle-resistant, so it’s equally good-looking and comfortable. The straps adjust in two places using snaps that you can find the right fit, and while it’s not as granular as slide adjusters, we dig the unique solution that doesn’t impact aesthetics.

lululemon Waterside High-Neck One-Piece Swimsuit

We prefer to bring a one-piece suit because it can double as a bodysuit under a pair of pants or shorts. The lululemon Waterside High-Neck One-Piece Swimsuit adds a subtle trendiness to this list, though its low back may not be for everyone.

Unbound Merino Crew Neck T-Shirt Review

This Merino Wool Crew Neck T-Shirt from Unbound Merino is super soft, making it great for lounging around your accommodations or staying cozy during long days of travel. It can feel a bit tight after a wash, though it loosens back up after a few wears.

Icebreaker 175 Everyday Short Sleeve Crewe

A basic tee is a must, and Icebreaker’s Everyday Short Sleeve Crewe really does thrive in everyday situations. It’s ideal for both working out and working on your laptop. It flies under the radar in looks, but its versatility is hard to beat.

ADAY Made it T-shirt

ADAY’s Made it T-Shirt can be dressed up or down for practically any event. It’s polished enough for a business meeting and comfortable for everyday wear. We love how the relaxed fit adds some versatility to our wardrobe. Plus, it’s incredibly lightweight and quick-drying, which isn’t surprising considering it’s made of silk. Feels like it, too.

Athleta Brooklyn Short

The Athleta Brooklyn Short is a comfortable do-it-all bottom for warm weather days or sleeping. It’s made with a quick-dry fabric, which means you can even wear them for exercise. The straight leg fit can be dressed up a bit, though it doesn’t look too formal with the right top.

wayre Flow Short

With a high waist, an elastic waistband, and wrinkle-resistant, spill-proof fabric, the wayre Flow Short pretty much does it all. It dries quickly in hot weather, and sweat doesn’t show even on the lighter colorways. The two side pockets zip, which keeps your transit ticket from flying away, though weighing it down with heavy gear like a phone can make the shorts sag a bit.

Ministry of Supply Women’s Fusion Straight Leg Pant

The Fusion Straight Leg Pant from Ministry of Supply is easy to dress up for business and down for everyday wear. It’s made with lightweight materials that stretch with you, so it's comfortable whether you’re working away at a deadline or wandering around the city. There’s even buckles on the pant legs so you can adjust the hemline, though we had some issues going through the full-body scanners in airport security, so wear another pant or give yourself some extra time for a pat-down.

lululemon City Sleek 5 Pocket High-Rise Wide-Leg Pant Full Length Light Utilitech

With its high-rise waist and wide-leg cut, this City Sleek pant from lululemon has enough style to add flair to your wardrobe without being over-the-top. It’s super stretchy and wicks away moisture on hot days. Plus, it doesn’t hold wrinkles, so you’ll be ready to roll in no time.

lululemon Align High-Rise Pant 28″

For days when you want to keep it casual, the lululemon Align High-Rise Pant is an easy alternative to regular pants. The material is ridiculously soft, and the high-rise waistband keeps it from slipping down. We chose the version without pockets for a sleek, seamless look, but if you want storage for your phone that’s also an option. They’re not classy enough to wear into a business meeting, though but the added comfort is an easy trade-off.

Ministry of Supply Women’s Swift Sheath Dress

This Swift Sheath Dress from Ministry of Supply is our go-to dress because of its timeless silhouette that has a relaxed and casual feel that’s also professional enough for work and business meetings. It’s wrinkle-resistant and moisture-wicking, which is handy if you only break it out on special occasions. Plus, it has pockets. Need we say more?

Beyond Yoga Spacedye Everyday Hoodie

The Spacedye Everyday Hoodie from Beyond Yoga looks casual and is our go-to for extra warmth and comfort on the plane, in a cold coworking space, or at our accommodations. The blend of polyester and elastane is absurdly soft, and though we’ve seen some pilling on the underarm seams after a few weeks of use, it’s easy to pick off.

Rab Phantom Waterproof Pull-On Jacket

The Rab Phantom Waterproof Pull-On Jacket is one of the most packable rain jackets we've seen to date. It keeps you dry in a pinch and is easy to add over warmer layers, considering that it's roughly the size of an apple when packed. However, you can remove this in favor of an umbrella if you know you won’t need an extra layer and want to keep your bag dry, too. Store it in the small included pouch when you don't need it, though the pouch itself isn't attached, so you'll need to find a place to keep it when the jacket is on.

Patagonia Nano Puff Review

Patagonia’s Nano Puff has been around for a long time because it’s a fan-favorite, and for good reason. It feels like you’re wearing nothing and has a great warmth-to-weight ratio. As for hood or no hood, it depends on what’s on your packing list. Try to avoid hoodie fatigue so that you have ultimate layering freedom.

BUFF USA Lightweight Merino Wool Buff

A Buff is probably one of the most versatile things you can have in your travel bag. It works as a sleep mask, beanie, scarf, and so much more. There’s a bit of a learning curve to figuring out the folds, but once you do, you’ll love having a million uses in one.

Black Diamond Heavyweight Screentap Gloves

A pair of gloves will keep your fingers warm but can often be bulky. Black Diamond Heavyweight Screentap Gloves are easy to pack and touchscreen compatible. It gives the comfort and warmth you need to answer emails on the fly on a cold day, though they’re best suited for mild weather—from 25 to 40°F (-4 to 4°C).

JINS Switch Classic 345

Sunglasses are necessary when traveling, though you don’t want to pack two bulky pairs of glasses if you have a prescription. JINS makes glasses much thinner than traditional models that include magnetic sunglasses you can clip on and take off as needed. They look sleek and come in a bunch of different styles, and you can always get non-prescription blue light for working and pop on the sunglasses when it’s time to explore.

Philley Aluminum Ultra-Light Eyeglass Case

Protect your glasses in a bag with this Philley Aluminum Eyeglass Case that holds the frames and sunglasses inside. It fits nicely in the sling and has a hard shell to protect the glasses, but the case gets scratched easily. What case you need will vary depending on the exact size and shape of your glasses, but we find these work well for the glasses on this list.

Groove Life Zeus Edge Midnight Black Ring

Being a Digital Nomad doesn’t mean leaving all creature comforts and accessories behind. The Groove Life Zeus Edge Ring adds a bit of style to your wardrobe without adding weight or bulk. It’s made with a stretchy silicone and has inner grooves that add breathability and prevent stretching over time.

Nike Swoosh Sport Headband

This headband from Nike is one of the smallest and thinnest we’ve seen. It’s great for keeping hair out of your face during a workout. Just don’t lose it to the depths of your bag.

Vessi Weekend

When you frequent the airport, having footwear you can easily slip on and off is a lifesaver. These Vessi Weekends look like simple lace-up tennis shoes, though they’re stretchy enough to put on without untying the laces every time. The material is waterproof but breathable, and the cushy footbed is comfortable for long days of walking around.

Chaco Townes Sandal

Chaco’s Townes sandals look professional and are minimal enough to pair with any outfit on this list. The cushioned sole and soft leather upper will provide all-day comfort in a range of terrain and look good doing it.

getaway Pack Light Hat 2.0

The 6-panel Pack Light Hat 2.0 from getaway has a casual look that we like for doing just about anything. The brim is less floppy than other packable hats we’ve tested, though it still gets small enough to fit into your pack or sling. It even floats, so you won’t have to worry about it sinking to the bottom of the ocean if you decide to join some new friends in an impulsive cliff dive. Plus, the material is super soft and breathable, and the built-in sweatband wicks away moisture on hot days.

Xero Shoes Z-Trail EV

The Z-Trail EV sandals from Xero Shoes are super minimal for everyday wear, though the style may not be for everyone. The lug pattern provides traction if you go on wild adventures without losing out on the feel of barefoot shoes. They’re also great for days at the beach and keeping your feet off the hostel floor showers.

Vivobarefoot Ra III

When we travel, we look for barefoot shoes because their minimalist form factor easily compresses to fit inside limited bag space. Vivobarefoot’s RA III looks nice enough to wear to dinner but isn’t overly formal for day-to-day wear. While the low-top design isn’t as good for protecting your ankles on motorbikes, the packability is a worthy trade-off.

Peak Design Packing Cubes Review

All the tops and bottoms on this list fit within two Small Peak Design cubes, which we like for their easy-to-open design and self-healing nylon that repairs any small holes if they appear on the road. We use one for tops and the other for bottoms, and we pack socks and underwear in built-in pockets in our travel backpack. You could also add a third cube if you prefer. Depending on what you’re bringing, Peak Design also offers a medium size, which might fit your gear better, though we find two smalls fit best in the travel backpack on this list.

lock  Pro Members get up to 10% off Peak Design

Peak Design Shoe Pouch

Since we’re bringing two types of footwear, shoe segmentation is a must. Peak Design’s Shoe Pouch keeps your dirty shoes away from your clean clothes. It’ll keep any sand or debris contained, and there’s even a weather-resistant zipper to boot.

Productivity & Tech

This is all the gear you need to rock a complete mobile office on the road. For the true digital nomad, this section is critical. Between all the cords, dongles, and different inputs you need for everyday work—this stuff gets real confusing real quick. But that’s why you have us, right?

We’ve got your bases covered with this simple tech system. It also provides redundancy if you lose or break a cable during your travels—let’s face it, things happen. Spending the day coworking abroad has never felt this seamless.

Digital Nomad Packing List Tech Flatlay

The Aer Pro Kit came out on top in our search for the right size tech kit to keep gear tidy. It easily fits all the tech mentioned in this video with room to spare. The zippered pocket keeps small dongles from getting lost, while a zippered mesh pocket on the front is the perfect size for a travel mouse. Pop your cords in the other two stretchy mesh pockets, and wall chargers and battery banks slot well in the big back pocket. There’s enough room for a tablet if that’s on your Digital Nomad Packing List, but we’ve found that overfilling the compartment can make the kit tip over, so try to keep it light. The wide base makes it a great table companion. It's easy to see all your gear and takes up less space on a desk when standing upright. Plus, it creates a cube shape when stacked with other cube pouches in a travel backpack.

Matador Laptop Base Layer

The Matador Laptop Base Layer has a rolltop design that fits up to a 16-inch laptop but is still one of the most low-profile laptop sleeves we’ve found to date. We like to keep it on hand because it’s an easy way to carry tech if you’re asked to check your bag. Just pull out your laptop, load some accessories in the zippered mesh pocket, and you’re good to carry it by the handle. It’s also great for some airlines who consider a laptop bag’s weight separate from your allowed carry on weight.

Apple Macbook Pro

A laptop is one of the heaviest items in your bag, though most digital nomads aren’t able to sacrifice it for a smaller device. We opt for a MacBook Pro, but any laptop will work.

Roost V3 – Laptop Stand

This is Roost’s current iteration of their laptop stand, and it’s a must if you’re going to be working on a laptop for long periods of time. It folds up when not in use and offers seven levels of adjustment for your laptop when it’s time to work. It’s an easy way to get an ergonomic desk setup anywhere in the world.

Apple Magic Keyboard

Apple’s Magic Keyboard is pretty standard, but we like it because it’s small, wireless, and integrates nicely with a MacBook. Though be sure to check your MacBook’s processor first, as you may need a different model from M1 to Intel. Otherwise, you can swap it out for your desired keyboard, although we recommend keeping it small and wireless.

Roost Minimalist Keyboard Sleeve

This neoprene Keyboard Sleeve from Roost adds an extra layer of protection for your keyboard while in transit. It’s low-profile and stretchy enough to fit around more than just Apple products.

Apple Magic Mouse

Apple’s Magic Mouse 2 is one of the flattest mice we’ve tested and is easily rechargeable. It may take some time getting used to no scroll wheel, so feel free to swap out whatever mouse you prefer here.

MOGICS Super Bagel

The MOGICS Super Bagel is one of the best travel adapters we’ve tested to date. In the center is a plug that pops out and transforms into an adapter compatible with U.K., AU, and EU wall sockets. What’s left over is a bagel shape that can host up to five charging adapters and holds an extension cable to give you a little extra reach in your preferred work space. There’s also a USB-A and USB-C port for extra charging options. The Super Bagel worked like a charm in Thailand, and even when a power surge tripped a fuse, the auto-reset had it working again in no time. We did have trouble getting it to work in South Korea, though it’s common for adapters to have issues there.

Anker 747 Charger (GaNPrime 150W)

The Anker 747 is a 150-watt GaN wall charger with three USB-C and one USB-A charging port to keep all your devices juiced. Its compact design makes for easier packing, though the length can get a little top-heavy and may fall out of looser outlets. However, it comes with a suction cup to help add stabilization, and we find ourselves plugging this into our travel adapter most of the time, anyway.

Anker 765 USB-C to USB-C Cable (140W - Nylon)

With a maximum output of 240W, the Anker 765 USB-C Cable easily charges everything on this list, from the smartphone to the laptop. We’re bringing along two. The 6-foot version is great for covering large distances, like when an outlet is a little too far away from your table at the coffee shop. Meanwhile, the 3-foot version is ideal for pretty much everything else.

Meenova USB-C to Lightning Adapter

Instead of bringing a cable that can only charge Lightning devices, the Meenova USBC to Lightning Adapter quickly changes your regular USB-C cable into a charger for your Apple smartphone and wireless headphones. We love how small this thing is, but if you’re worried about losing track of it, you can always leave it attached to one of the cables in your tech pouch.

RollingSquare inCharge X

For any cable combinations you’re missing, there’s Rolling Square’s inCharge X. There are a total of six combinations to play with, including Micro USB. Not only does it save you if another cable breaks, but it’s also a great way to help out a stranger while you’re traveling.

NITECORE Carbo 10000 Power Bank

For days when there’s no outlet nearby, bring along the NITECORE Carbo 10000 Power Bank. It’s one of the slimmest and lightest battery banks we’ve tested to date, and the 10,000 mAh capacity will have you covered during long days of exploring. The unibody carbon construction feels nice and durable in your hands, and it has rounded corners that fit nicely into a pocket. However, the LED lights bleed into one another, so it can be hard to tell how much power is left. We just make sure to recharge it frequently.

lock  Pro Members get up to 15% off NITECORE

Apple Watch

When you’re working remotely, it’s important to stay connected. An Apple Watch integrates seamlessly into the Apple ecosystem and will notify you of incoming texts, calls, or even upcoming meetings. You can also track your fitness, which is great on long days of walking around. While it needs to be charged every day, it’s worth having on hand—or wrist.

Satechi USB-C Magnetic Charging Dock for Apple Watch

This USB-C Charging Dock from Satechi is a compact alternative to the standard market Apple Watch charger. Instead of an attached cord, it plugs into your laptop or wall charger directly via USB-C. This means it takes up less space on your table and in your tech pouch.

Apple Airpods Pro

Apple’s AirPod Pro’s noise-canceling feature is phenomenal. It works like a charm when you’re trying to get some shut-eye on a plane. When it’s time to listen for announcements at your terminal, toggle on the hear-through feature. These won’t beat over-ear headphones, but they’re worth the space and weight you save.

UGREEN Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Adapter

You may not need a Lightning to Headphone dongle all the time, but this version from Ugreen is great to keep on hand just in case. If your wireless headphones die just before a meeting or you lose them in transit, you can pick up a cheap pair of earbuds and get back on schedule. Non-Apple users, you can disregard this item.

iPhone 12 Pro Max

We’re big fans of the Apple ecosystem, which is why we go for iPhones, though any phone will work.

Peak Design Everyday Case

If you’re a fan of ecosystems, you’ll dig the Peak Design Everyday Case. It’s designed to work with their accessories, though it functions just as well as a standalone phone case. We dig the nylon canvas fabric shell for its soft, premium feel and professional design.

Peak Design Mobile Tripod

The Peak Design Mobile Tripod is a low-profile phone tripod that attaches to your smartphone and rotates to support your device in portrait or landscape mode. Set it up and take a group photo or catch a long exposure of a city skyline. You can also prop up your phone on a desk to use it as an extra screen while you work or leave it on your tray table to watch some shows if your plane doesn’t have in-flight entertainment.

Twelve South AirFly Pro

Instead of using the wired headphones provided by an airline, the Twelve South AirFly Pro connects your bluetooth headphones to the entertainment center on the plane. This device doubles as a transmitter and receiver and allows you to connect up to two pairs of headphones at once to sync your movie with a travel companion.

lock  Pro Members get up to 20% off Twelve South

SanDisk iXpand Flash Drive Luxe

Move files between your devices using the Sandisk iXpand Flash Drive Luxe. One side has a USB-C connector while the other has Lightning. Easily rotate it to expose the adapter you need and plug it into your device. Then you can transfer data between your laptop and smartphone with ease. Or, use it to print a travel document if there’s no WiFi on the printers at the print shop.

Olight Open Mini

This Open Mini Ballpoint Pen from Olight has a compact design that stays out of the way until you need it. Use the included clip to attach it to your notebook between musings or keep it in your sling until it’s time to fill out your customs form. Some outer material is removed, which gives it a cool design and removes some extra weight.

lock  Pro Members get up to 10% off Olight

Field Notes Pitch Black Memo Book

The Notebooks from Field Notes are our go-to. The simple design offers a blank canvas for you to work with. Go for dot grid if you’re the sketching type or ruled if you’ll be doing a lot of writing. Either way, we love having a place to jot down ideas.

lock  Pro Members get up to 20% off Field Notes

Apple AirTag

Our travel backpack, sling, and tech pouch each get an Apple AirTag so we can keep track of our gear. Apple makes it easy to see where your gear is if you misplace it or if it’s stolen.

Rolling Square AirCard

If your travel wallet lacks a zippered pocket, a round AirTag is at risk of falling out. That’s why we like the Rolling Square AirCard, which fits right into one of the card slots. It uses Apple’s Find My network and plays a video game-like tone to help you locate your wallet (or whatever it’s inside). It’ll also send an alert to your phone if you leave your wallet behind. It can act like a digital business card to share information with new friends, but we don’t use it now that iOS 17 added that feature.

Toiletries & Personal Care

Staying fresh, clean, and well-groomed on the road is an essential part of being a digital nomad (or just being a civilized person in general). You want to look presentable if you’re hitting up new coworking spaces, conducting video conferences, or just going out to dinner. Plus, all your stuff needs to be carry-on compliant so you can stick with a single carry-on bag.

Alternatively, you could just be a total slob. The choice is ultimately yours, although this section will focus on all the tools you need to look fresh and feel good.

Digital Nomad Packing List Mens Toiletries Flatlay

While the Aer Dopp Kit 3 looks simple on the outside, it has enough space for the toiletries you need daily. It’s rectangular, and its organization doesn’t require as much care when it's time to pack. There’s space in the back for bulkier grooming supplies, mesh compartments for bottles and other supplies, and the front pocket is perfect for a toothbrush.

Denman D90 Black Tangle Tamer Ultra Mini

The Tangle Tamer Ultra Mini from Denman has layered bristles that really get in there for quick, easy, and painless detangling, which is a lifesaver on windy days. It’s not the most packable brush we’ve seen, but the small form factor and relatively thin handle are easy to store in a Dopp kit. If you have more textured hair, they also sell mini versions of their Styler brushes.

Gillette Venus Mini

This Gillette Venus Mini razor is about as small as it gets. It’s only available in pink at the time of this video, though if you can get past the look, the packability is hard to beat. Despite its small size, it’s still comfortable to hold and doesn’t slip.

Take My Face Off Mitty Mini

The Mitty Mini is a great alternative to makeup wipes. It’s more sustainable, quick-drying, and saves space in your pack compared to a microfiber towel. The shape works well to remove makeup and is gentle on your skin at the same time.

lock  Pro Members get up to 25% off Take My Face Off

Subtl Beauty Build Your Stack

With Subtl Beauty’s Build Your Own Stack, you can curate your own makeup palette from concealer to lip and cheek color. They come in an easy-to-pack stack, applicator included. This means that you don’t have any wasted space or unused makeup, as you can order as many or as few shades as you’d like. They accommodate a wide spectrum of skin tones, and you can even search your current makeup brand and shade on their website and they’ll provide you with their closest match.

Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint

Fenty Beauty is known for having a color match for every skin tone under the sun, which is why we went with the Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint. We’re not exaggerating when we say there’s an option for everyone. It provides minor, lightweight coverage for everyday wear. However, it may take some getting used to if you prefer a full foundation.

Fenty Beauty Full Frontal Volume, Lift & Curl Mini Mascara

This Mini Mascara from Fenty Beauty has all the benefits of regular mascara, just in a smaller form factor. Its more packable design takes up barely any space in a Dopp kit. And, let’s be honest, who ever finishes a tube of mascara before it’s technically expired?

IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil

Having filled-in eyebrows does wonders for feeling put together on days when a full face of makeup doesn’t seem worth it. This Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil from IT Cosmetics has a retractable tip that doesn’t need to be sharpened—though it can break off if you’re not careful. It lasts a surprisingly long time and comes in a few shades to match your hair color.

Alleyoop Multi-Tasker Makeup Brush

This four-in-one makeup brush is your catch-all for pretty much any application need. On the outside are a blush brush and a replaceable concealer sponge. With a quick twist, unscrew them to expose the brow and eyeshadow brushes. While there’s no cap or cover to keep the brush and sponge (which means they’re left exposed in your Dopp kit), having all your tools in one package is hard to beat.

Cora The Easy-Does-It Cup

Menstrual products take up a decent amount of space in your bag. If you don’t already use one, it’s worth considering switching to a cup. We like the Easy-Does-It Cup from Cora because its flexible and indented design is easy to grip, making it great for those new to the menstrual cup scene.

Goody Ouchless Elastic Hair Bands

Hair ties frequently break, stretch, and disappear into thin air, so we always toss a few in the bottom of our Dopp kit. We’ve had great luck with the brand Goody, but you’ll want to choose bands that work with your hair texture to avoid breakage.

Ritter Hair & Beauty Care O-CUT Hair Trimmer (XSZ-10s)

The Ritter Hair & Beauty Care O-CUT Hair Trimmer is a small trimmer with a size that belies its power. It recharges with USB-C and feels more like what they use at a barber shop without the added weight. It’s great for managing your scruff on the road, but if you don’t have a beard, you’re probably good with just a razor. While it includes accessories for different styles, pick the guard that works best for you and leave the rest at home.

Chicago Bomb Co. Model No. 2 Carbon Fiber

This carbon fiber comb from Chicago Comb is ultra-lightweight and durable. Even though it’s small, it’s still big enough to style your hair easily. We chose the Model 2 because it’s the smallest option, though there are also larger versions.

MÜHLE Travel Black Anodized Aluminum Fusion Travel Razor

This Travel Fusion Razor from MUHLE effectively blends form and function. It feels slicker than the type of razor you’d get at the grocery store but is compatible with razors that are easy to find worldwide. We also like that it comes with a razor sheath to protect the blade in our Dopp kit.

humangear GoTubb Review

humangear GoTubbs work well for pastes, gels, lotions, and solid items like pills. We have a medium one filled with hair pomade or solid lotion and one small one filled with Ibuprofen. Talk to your doctor about how you should travel with and carry prescription medication.

lock  Pro Members get up to 35% off humangear

Crystal Mineral Deodorant Travel Stick Review

Mineral deodorant is a natural way to fight odor-causing bacteria. It’s gentle on Merino wool compared to other deodorants and antiperspirants. While it’s on the heavier side, it comes in travel sizes and lasts for an absurdly long time. Plus, it’s not a liquid, so it won’t cause you trouble at airport security.

Humangear GoToob+

The humangear GoToob+ comes in a ton of sizes, and we’ve gone with the 3.4 ounce version to get the maximum allotted liquid while still remaining carry-on compliant. We’re only bringing one filled with lotion, so it doesn’t take up too much space in our toiletry kit.

Tooletries The Face and Body Scrubber

Contrary to its name, the Tooletries Face Scrubber can be used on your whole body in a pinch. It comes in handy if your accommodation doesn’t have a wash cloth or you just like to freshen up before or after flying. It’s softer than it looks, though it adds a good amount of exfoliation.

Matador FlatPak Soap Bar Case

Dealing with a wet soap bar is a pain, especially when it comes to tossing it in with the rest of your toiletries. Matador’s FlatPak Soap Bar Case is much better than a plastic bag—it contains excess moisture and even lets your soap dry while it’s inside.

Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree Pure Castile Bar Soap

Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree Pure-Castile soap is the ultimate bang for your buck. You can use it to wash your hair, clothes, face, dishes, and everything in between. Some people even say you can use it to brush your teeth…yuck.

Matador Ultralight Travel Towel

You may not use Matador’s Ultralight Travel Towel every day, but it’s a lifesaver when you need it. Lay it out on a beach, use it to have a picnic under the Eiffel tower, or to dry yourself off after a shower when your hostel runs out of towels—again. We like the larger size because it’s more versatile. It’s pretty thin, though.

Quip Electric Toothbrush

It may not be the highest vibration toothbrush on the market, but quip is about as compact as it gets in our experience. It runs on a AA battery, which is easy to find almost anywhere in the world. Even if it dies, it still functions well as a manual toothbrush.

Matador Refillable Toothpaste Tubes

The Matador Refillable Toothpaste Tubes are exactly what their name says they are—travel-size tubes that you can refill with your preferred paste instead of buying a new tube every time. They come in two sizes, and we like the two-week version. Most digital nomads stay in one place for a while, so we buy one large toothpaste tube when we arrive and fill the Matador tube up as-needed for shorter trips. Or, when it’s time to move locations, leave the big tube behind and bring the small one with you to your next spot until it’s time to restock.

Matador Waterproof Travel Canisters

It’s always nice to have an emergency supply of aspirin. We bring it along in a Matador Waterproof Travel Canister, though make sure you talk to your doctor about how you should travel with and carry prescription medication. The aluminum design is lightweight and thin, so it doesn’t add much weight or take up a ton of space. Plus it’s waterproof, so you don’t need to worry about spills in your toiletry bag.

Canku Mini Tweezers (Titanium)

These Canku Mini Tweezers are incredibly small. They’re handy for unexpected splinters or errant eyebrow hairs, and while they can be kind of hard to pinch at first, they get the job done.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Ultra-Slim Nail Clipper

The Zwilling J.A. Henckels Ultra-Slim Nail Clipper are super small and flat, making them easy to pack. You’ll be glad to have them when you need to take care of a hangnail or it’s been a while since you’ve had a trim.

Generic Lip Balm

We recommend keeping some form of lip balm in your sling. We like ChapStick brand, but you can use whatever you prefer.

Ziploc Quart Sized Bag

Even if you bring along a clear toiletry bag for your liquids, you’re better off safe than sorry by packing a quart-sized Ziploc bag. It takes up little to no room and can be a lifesaver. We like to use a VELCRO strap or rubber band to keep it organized.

Miscellaneous

Everything else! These are the little things that really take this list to the next level. If you’re perpetually traveling the world, these are the items that will help you navigate every possible situation you might encounter.

If you’re not perpetually traveling, you’ll still be able to save the day when someone needs a bottle opener in a pinch or you just can’t be asked to walk across the airport to grab a plastic fork. Multitools, utensils, carabiners, and a whole lot more.

Digital Nomad Packing List Misc- Flatlay

The Vapur Eclipse is a compressible water bottle that packs down to a super small footprint when it’s not in use. We like to keep it in our bag while we go through airport security and fill it up once we reach our terminal. It even has a built-in carabiner, so it’s easy to stay hydrated without losing valuable pack space.

Loop Quiet Noise Reduction Earplugs

We love the ease and adaptability of the Loop Quiet Earplugs. The comfortable rubber tips allow you to either block out all noise or filter it to hear announcements on the airplane. The package includes four tip sizes for small to large ears, and the fit is easy to adjust with the loop. They also sell foam versions if you prefer. They come in handy if you stay at a lively accommodation but have a meeting first thing in the morning.

Heroclip Mini

The Heroclip looks like a standard carabiner, but it’s much more. Flip out the hook and hang it off practically any surface with an edge. Use the mini to keep your sling off the ground and out of the way. It can handle up to 40 pounds and is great for bathroom stalls without hangers or cafes with limited floor space. If you want to hang up something larger, like your travel backpack, you’ll want to check out the small (50 lbs), medium (60 lbs), or large (100 lbs) options.

GoSun Flatware Set

While it’s not a necessity to bring travel cutlery along, the GoSun Flatware Set is ultra flat and packable, so it’s easy to keep in your bag in case you stop for a quick bite and the food stall is out of utensils. It’s stored in a carry case that’s roughly the size of a credit card and includes a fork and slightly serrated spoon that doubles as a TSA-friendly knife. One of our Pros found them hard to engage, though we haven’t had issues.

Cartesian Cards One Deck Game Cards

If you can’t decide what to play, the Cartesian Cards Deck has multiple options to choose from. On top of being a regular deck of 52, it also has markings to set up a chess board, dominoes, backgammon, and more. The square shape can be a little difficult to shuffle, though we like having a variety of game options if there are flight delays or to break the ice at a hostel.

Orbitkey Key Organiser Review

You’ll probably leave most of your keys at home, but we like Orbitkey’s Key Organizer for storing a house, apartment, or Airbnb key. It has a sleek minimal look and won’t jangle in your pocket or sling.

Orbitkey 2.0 Multi-tool V2

This Orbitkey multi-tool is basic but has pretty much every feature you need while traveling. Tighten a loose chair screw, open a bottle of local brew, or scrape some goop off your airplane tray table. It works great in the Orbitkey keychain ecosystem and is TSA safe, though it’s ultimately up to your officer.

Nite Ize MicroLink Carabiner

This is one of the smallest carabiners we’ve ever seen. We use the Nite Ize MicroLink as a jump ring between our keychain and accessories because it makes it easy to detach the gear when needed. However, it’s worth noting that the carabiner opening is pretty small, so it can be hard to slide large fobs through. This means it may not be ideal for all of your accessories without using extra jump rings.

lock  Pro Members get up to 20% off Nite Ize

Airinum Air Mask Lite

While traveling is a great way to learn about other cultures, it’s important to respect them, too. Depending on your destination, it’s customary to wear a mask on public transit or in stores. We like this reusable KN95 mask from Airinum because it fits snug and is comfortable around the ears for extended periods, though there’s nothing between the replaceable filter and your mouth, which may take some getting used to.

lock  Pro Members get up to 20% off Airinum

NITECORE TINI 2

The NITECORE TINI 2 packs 500 lumens into a 0.74-ounce flashlight, but you can use lower settings to extend the battery life. The 200-lumen setting is bright enough to light up a hotel room for about 45 minutes to help you see if your smartphone light isn’t cutting it. You’ll want to practice changing the settings before you leave home, but it’s easy to learn. Plus, it recharges via USB-C, so you don’t have to pack extra batteries.

NOMATIC Refillable Spray Vial

The Refillable Spray Vial from NOMATIC allows you to bring your own hand sanitizer anywhere in the world. It has an aluminum construction and anti-leak nozzle to ensure your sanitizer stays inside, and it’s easy to refill when it’s time for a top-up. The side clip allows you hang it off of your pocket, or you can use the attachment loop to keep it on your keys. While you’ll have to buy your own sanitizer refills, we dig the convenience of having the bottle on a keychain at all times.

lock  Pro Members get up to 20% off NOMATIC

Standard Travel First Aid Kit

We take the contents of a pre-made First Aid Kit and put them in a small pouch so it’s more packable. What you bring is up to you, though we recommend stocking up on Band-Aids and disinfectant wipes just in case.

Montbell Travel Umbrella

If you leave a waterproof jacket at home, you’ll want another way to stay dry. The Montbell Travel Umbrella protects you and your bags and takes up less room in your sling than a compressed jacket. It's about the size of a churro and includes a water-repellent case. That way, you can put it away while it’s still wet so it won’t seep through to your bag. If you leave the jacket behind, you won't have an extra layer if the wind picks up, but you can always bring both since they’re so lightweight.

Oura Ring

It's hard to work without a good night’s rest. The Oura Ring tracks your sleep quality every night so you can compare how you feel to how well you slept the night before. It’s satisfying to wake up and check out the sleep graph, and it can also help get a handle on your health. The battery lasts more than a day, so you can top it up whenever it’s convenient, and it’s waterproof, so you can leave it on to swim or shower.

I fly 10 times a year. These 5 tech gadgets are lifesavers

1549928918804.jpg

As a tech journalist, I often travel across the US -- and sometimes out of it -- to attend product launch events, trade shows, and other briefings for news that readers care about. It certainly helps to be based in New York City, where most of the gadgetry madness tends to occur, but when I am out and about (for work or play), there's a bag full of tech that I always have with me.

My treasure trove of electronics has evolved over recent years, transitioning to newer GaN chargers and more capable yet still portable camera systems . The five picks below are among my current arsenal of travel tech. I'll make this a little more exciting for you by stating the obvious: My phone and a reliable Bluetooth tracker are always with me, so I've opted not to put them on this list. Instead, you'll find products I've personally tested that are useful enough for you to consider for your next adventure.

Also: The best travel gadgets of 2024

DJI Osmo Pocket 3

While smartphone cameras have become very capable at capturing life's moments, I still prefer the enhanced stabilization and portability of a dedicated pocket camera, especially when I'm recording smooth-panning videos of product demos and scenery. The camera I've most recently settled on is the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, famous for its ability to record up to 4K resolution through a one-inch CMOS sensor. The output I've gotten has been reliable and impressive, both for vertical and horizontal footage, which can be set by physically swiveling the touchscreen viewfinder.

Does carrying an additional camera feel unnecessary? Not when the quality is noticeably better and it greatly reduces the battery consumption you'd otherwise put on your phone when recording videos. Reddit users who have used the Osmo Pocket 3 seem to agree, with the added benefits being better audio recording, improved video stabilization, and a larger sensor for more dramatic shots.

Lenovo Go Wireless Power Bank 10,000mAh

Lenovo's power bank may look unassuming, but trust me when I say there's more to it than what meets the eye. Besides having a 10,000mAh capacity, meaning there's enough juice to power a phone (and other accessories like earbuds) two to three times, a fairly long USB-C cable is built into the battery pack, saving you the hassle of carrying a separate one.

Here's the second trick: the Lenovo Go can wirelessly charge Qi-supported devices when you place them on top of the accessory, allowing you to charge two devices at once (via wired and wireless) if you're feeling adventurous.

While the charge output is capped at 30W, many customers on Lenovo's website have found the power bank adequate for powering phones, tablets, and earbuds, and have been particularly satisfied with the built-in charging cable.

Also: The best power banks of 2024: Expert tested

Ayaneo Flip

I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer, but I've found traveling, especially when on long flights, to be the perfect opportunity to get my NBA 2K and Rocket League fix. Lately, my vehicle of choice for gaming has been the Ayaneo Flip, a Windows-powered handheld with Nintendo DS written all over it, from the dual touchscreen displays to the ergonomic shoulder triggers. Thanks to the OS and a capable AMD Ryzen 7 processor, I've been able to play Steam and Epic Games titles right on the device at medium to high graphic settings.

The big question mark with the Ayaneo Flip is its price point and availability, according to several interested Reddit users. With a starting price of $699, the Flip can best be justified by those who want a competent, on-the-go gaming handheld that can also be used for standard PC tasks like web browsing, streaming videos, and emailing. One of the Flip's most underrated features is the ability to output to a monitor or TV screen for a gaming experience more similar to standard consoles.

Also: Everything you need to create the ultimate gaming setup

Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

While the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses are fantastic for recording hands-free videos, I've found them more practical as a wearable tour guide. Thanks to recent Meta AI updates , the glasses can pull context from what's in front of you, whether it's a monument, statue, or restaurant storefront, and answer your most burning questions. I've used the smart glasses to identify unfamiliar landmarks, tell me the most popular food items at a local restaurant, play music from artists from the city that I've traveled to, and more.

The general sentiment toward the Meta Ray-Bans has been mostly positive, with Reddit users favoring the ease of use, comfort, and various capabilities. The price point of the glasses, starting at $299, is fairly competitive as well.

Review: Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses: The best AI-powered AR glasses to buy right now

Nomad 130W Power Adapter

Besides carrying a portable battery pack, I also travel with Nomad's 130W Power Adapter, which fields multiple USB-C ports to charge up to three devices at once and a build quality that's shielded the rigors of my gadget-filled backpack. I'll admit: the charging brick is not light at 332 grams. However, at a similar size as Apple's MacBook charger, while being much more functional, the Nomad option has become a mainstay in my travel essentials.

Customers, including ZDNET's Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, have expressed satisfaction with Nomad's 130W Power Adapter, appreciating the speedy power delivery and support for three USB-C inputs. I especially recommend this charging adapter for users with larger, more energy-hungry laptops like the MacBook Pro or Dell XPS. For smaller devices like the MacBook Air, which only requires a 65W charge, I'd advise picking up one of Nomad's slimmer adapters for less money.

Also: Nomad's 130W charger has one unique feature that's game-changing for me

Why should you trust me?

When I'm not writing about technology, I'm probably working overtime as my family's IT support guy. And when I'm not working at all, I'm likely watching, reading, or consuming some form of content about technology. So when I make product recommendations, I suggest gadgets I've personally tested and have proven to deliver the value (if not more value) that manufacturers promise.

My main expertise is mobile, from phones to wearables to accessories, which plays hand-in-hand with the topic of this story. I also travel about 10 times throughout the year, including from New York to California, so I've developed an understanding of which gadgets are essential and which are optional.

How do you pack electronics for traveling?

When traveling, storing any devices with lithium-ion batteries, such as laptops, tablets, and power banks, in your carry-on baggage is best. If my gadgets aren't already stored in a tech pouch or cushioned bag, I'll surround them with clothing to prevent any damage during travel.
