About Mirador Hill Baguio

Mirador Hill is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, who come to enjoy the stunning views of Baguio City and the surrounding mountains. The park is also home to a bamboo grove, rock formations, gardens, and more.

It is a 5-hectare park where you will find the Mirador Jesuit Villa, a place of retreat and conferences, at the top of the hill. There are several trails that you can explore, as well as a viewpoint where you can soak in incredible views.

How to Get There

Via commute.

Ride the jeepney from Kayang Street in the public market. Tell the driver to drop you off at the Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House.

Via Private Car

There is a parking area at the Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House. But the space is limited, so it is best to arrive early if you are driving.

Entrance Fee and Opening Hours

The park is open daily from 6:00AM to 6:00PM. There’s an entrance fee of P100.

Best Time to Visit

Want to avoid the crowd? Visit during the weekdays. Early mornings are also a great time to visit so you can avoid the occasional afternoon showers especially from June to November and enjoy the fresh mountain air.

The park is also a great place to watch the sunset, so time your trip and try to visit in the late afternoon.

If you’re visiting during the weekend or on a holiday, try to go early to avoid the crowds. The park gets quite busy in the afternoon, so it’s best to come in the morning if you can.

Hello. Thank you for the information. Do you think sr citizen around 65 yrs old would be able to walk around the park ? Is there any easier way to get to the top of the hill (red gate) ? I was curious if there is soo much climbing involved or maybe there are areas for slight walking/sightseeing.

And lastly, would you know if there are taxis there to go back home ? Thanks in advance.

There is a direct road going to the top of the hill. But you’ll need to talk to the guard if it’s possible to walk there so they’ll open the gate for you. The walk around the gardens is very steep in some parts so I wouldn’t recommend it to the elderly. As for taxis, yes. There are taxis passing by the road. Just make sure to avoid waiting for a taxi during the rush hours (7 to 10am and 3:30 pm onwards).

Before Mirador, it was Manila Observatory in Baguio ! Read this short historical account by Fr. Rene Javellana, SJ:

In his short essay on Mirador Hill, entitled, “Prospect Point,” the eminent Jesuit historian, Horacio Villamayor de la Costa wrote that there were four stages in the history of Mirador. The first stage began with the Manila Observatory. In 1901, the Manila Observatory, which had made its name during the previous century for its forecast and tracking of typhoons and its research into earthquakes opened a branch in Baguio . Its first location was at the foot of Mirador Hill where seismographs were located and a helioscope to study the sun and sunspots were built. From this lower station began the conquest of Mirador. In 1905, the Jesuits acquired a 36-hectare property from the American colonial government at a public auction. Two years later, beside the observatory, the Jesuits built a bodega and project house as a road was cut up to the summit of Mirador by cutting to the karst formations of the hill. At the apex, where the dapay-an and Knidos Labyrinth are located, the Jesuits built a two-story house of stone and mortar. It was laid out as a C or U, where the northern arm was set aside for the Manila Observatory in Baguio and the opposite southern arm and the connecting wing were for the Jesuit Villa dedicated to St. Joseph. By 1908, the house was operational and the Observatory moved up the hill.

There, seismologist Fr. José Selga operated his machines. The seismograph was vital to earthquake research because the instruments in Baguio helped triangulate where the epicenter of the earthquake was. For more than a century, except for an interruption during the war and brief breaks to maintain and upgrade the machines, Baguio has provided a continuous record of earthquakes. Today, the transmission of records no longer depends on a paper printout and is fully digital, with the machinese forwarding to Phivolcs it’s reading in a continuous stream of information. But the seismographs are still there and are a feature of the newly opened Mirador Heritage and Eco Trail.

The building where Fr. Selga had an office was destroyed during World War II in 1945. A new building with three wings and a connecting corridor, following an E-plan, was completed in 1951. The Observatory occupied present Wing C, named El Observatorio to recall its former use. Now that Wing is the Jesuit Wing. Below it, what was once a separate entrance and parlor for the Observatory is now three dining spaces, El Patrimonio de San Ignacio, Sala del Pepetuo Succoro, and Laudato Si Art Space that form the Cafe Iñigo Complex.

The Manila Observatory continued to operate in Baguio until 1961 when new buildings of the Manila Observatory were built in the Ateneo de Manila University Campus along Masterson Drive and Seminary Lane. But the seismographs continued ticking and still do so today as they feel the pulse of Mother Earth.

Baguio has always been one of the top destinations in the Philippines. Because of its chilly temperature, pine-dominated landscapes, and overall romantic atmosphere, this mountain city has attracted tourists especially in summer and the holidays like Christmas and New Year.

Although a highly urbanized city, Baguio retains its rustic charm in spots. From natural sites to modern ones, Baguio has something for each type of traveler and each age group. Moreover, the food culture and shopping districts have become attractions themselves.

Note: Baguio is geographically within Benguet but is not under the jurisdiction of the province. It has its own charter and administration.

Mirador Hill and Eco Park

JAPAN IN BAGUIO! Easily a highlight of our most recent trip, the Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park is a rising tourist destination, boasting a combination of local and Japan-inspired attractions.

This 5-hectare property is scribbled with hiking trails leading to different sites including the Rock Gardens, the Pandemic Healing Memorial, the La Storta Garden, Ifugao Houses, and the Circular Seismic Chamber (closed when we visited). But perhaps the most popular is the iconic Mirador Peace Memorial, a red-painted torii gate atop the hill, overlooking the city and the surrounding hills. It is a favorite photo spot for many visitors.

Another crowd-drawer is the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, perhaps named after the bamboo forest of Kyoto’s temple district. While the bamboo trunks are not as big or tall as those in the Japan site, it still makes for a refreshing resting and photo spot.

Aside from the park, Mirador Hill also harbors the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, Kapilya ni Hesus at Maria, Café Iñigo, and the Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House.

Igorot Stone Kingdom

Launched to the public in the second half of 2021, the Igorot Stone Kingdom is Baguio’s newest attraction. So new that construction of some parts were still ongoing when we visited. The park showcases both modern and traditional Igorot culture as well as the values of the Cordillera Region.

The whole area covers about 6,000 square meters and is dominated by two massive structures facing each other — a modern-day castle and an old-school stone wall. Made of hollow blocks and cement, the modern-day castle is etched with walkways, punctuated by statues, photo spots and viewing decks. It also crowned by a food court, serving mostly Pinoy snacks.

The stone wall, on the other hand, resembles the rice terraces that feature the rock-laying skills of the Igorot people. As you climb, you get to see the Fertility Stone Tower, the Temple of Kabunyan, Bangan’s Dome, the Tower of Gatan, the Face in the Rock, and many more.

Other attractions are the Igorot Gold Mine, the Wishing Well, and the Igorot Golden Bridge. Soon, the park will also have life-size statues of prominent Igorots.

Tam-awan Village

Just a stone’s throw from Igorot Stone Kingdom lies Tam-Awan Village , nicknamed Garden in the Sky . It was commissioned by the Chanum Foundation in 1998 in order to create a model village showcasing reconstructed traditional Cordillera houses and make them accessible to more people.

The village highlights the indigenous craftsmanship and aesthetics of the region and its local artists. From three huts transported from Ifugao, the village now has nine traditional houses — seven Ifugao huts and two Kalinga houses. These structures were reconstructed using mostly the original materials.

Diplomat Hotel

Officially named the Dominican Hill Retreat House but popularly referred to as the Diplomat Hotel , the 17-hectare property is sprawled atop the Dominican Hill. It was originally built as a retreat house for the Dominican priests and nuns in the first half of the 20th century until World War II, when the Japanese took over and turned it into a military garrison and war prison.

After restorations and remodeling, the Diplomat Hotel was launched and operated between the 1970s and the 1980s. Given its history, especially the atrocities of WWII, it gained notoriety for paranormal activities, consistently putting it on the list of most haunted places in the Philippines.

Today, the whole hill area is declared a heritage and historical site by the local government of Baguio and was named Dominican Heritage Hill and Nature Park. The property is undergoing rehabilitation and development for tourism and is open to photoshoots, filmmaking, wedding receptions, and other events and functions.

Bencab Museum, Tuba

Just a short drive from Baguio is the BenCab Museum in the town of Tuba. The private museum is founded and managed by the artist himself, Benedicto Reyes Cabrera (BenCab), a Philippine National Artist for Visual Arts.

The museum was launched to the public in February 2009 and showcases BenCab’s own masterpieces along with other works by other distinguished artists and emerging contemporary artists. Aside from promoting the arts, it also aims to highlight environmental conservation and cultural preservation of the Cordilleras heritage. The museum has a café, an organic farm, and a mini forest.

CAMP JOHN HAY Tourist Spots

Yellow trail.

The Yellow Trail , also called Forest Bathing Trail , meanders about 1.5 kilometers across the pine-covered Camp John Hay.

The walking path links Le Monet and Tree Top Adventure — the two jumping-off points. From the Tree Top Adventure, the trail goes further to Scout Hill, the final stop.

If you want to challenge yourself, take the uphill route that starts at Le Monet Hotel and ends at Scout Hill. If you just want to enjoy nature the easy way, take the reverse downhill route — starting at Scout Hill and ending at Le Monet Hotel.

The team took the easier path and thoroughly enjoyed basking in nature.

Tree Top Adventure

Are you an adrenaline junkie? Then Tree Top Adventure inside Camp John Hay is your playground! This adventure park offers thrilling activities that will make your heart race.

The most popular attractions are the Superman Ride (zipline), Canopy Ride, and Tree Drop (harnessed free fall). If you have companions that are not really into extreme activities, they can still use the consumable entrance fee of P100 for trekking or ride the cable cars/seats to a viewpoint. Each ride/attraction will incur additional payment, but the 100-peso entrance fee will be deducted since it’s consumable.

• Skywalk + Trekking: P150
• Tree Drop: P150

When we last visited (first week of March 2022), the property was CLOSED. Dress Code: A pair of shorts are allowed but make sure that it will be no shorter than two inches above the knee.

Also located within the perimeter of Camp John Hay and not far from Tree Top Adventure is the Bell House , named after General J Franklin Bell.

This former official holiday residence of the Commanding General of the Philippines has been converted into a museum. The well-preserved building reflects the American colonial architectural style. It features an amphitheater that also functions as a garden.

Cemetery of Negativism

Located on a hill’s slope between Bell House and Camp John Hay Picnic Area, the Cemetery of Negativism (also called the Lost Cemetery) was commissioned in the early 1980s by the base’s commanding general John Hightower.

But this cemetery is not the usual site for burying human bodies but rather a symbolic place for burying negativities. The tombstones were inscribed with witty and punny “eulogies” which may sometimes require a dash of sarcasm to understand.

One tombstone reads “Itz Not Possible”, conceived November 11, 1905 but “still not born”. Another one has “Know Dam Way” engraved on it, then below it, “Conceived New Years Eve 1910. Didn’t work out.”

Picnic at Camp John Hay

The cool temperature of Baguio makes outdoor activities like having a picnic with your friends or family attractive to visitors. Bring your own food and ready the things you will need for a fun bonding with your loved ones while admiring the natural scenery.

You can spread out a mat on a chosen spot or find a picnic table. Camp John Hay has a picnic spot dotted with picnic tables for rent. The rate is P200 for the first three hours and P300 if you go beyond that.

You can also do it at Burnham Park. Wherever you choose to do it, please don’t forget to clean up your mess after.

LA TRINIDAD Tourist Spots

La trinidad strawberry farm.

Situated about 30 minutes north of Baguio is the most popular Strawberry Farm in the area. It’s often associated with Baguio City but is actually part of La Trinidad .

Buying strawberries here will cost you P250-P300 per kilo. If you want to experience picking your own strawberries, which is the main draw of this place, you have to pay an additional P200. The strawberry-picking season is from November to May .

The farm also has a pasalubong center, composed of several souvenir stores. Don’t forget to try strawberry taho and strawberry ice cream ! Aside from strawberry products, the farm also offers fresh produce and plants.

The La Trinidad Strawberry Farm is managed and owned by Benguet State University.

Address: Barangay Betag, La Trinidad, Benguet Opening Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Daily). The opening hours might change, so please check the official website or Facebook page before visiting. Entrance Fee: FREE. The rate for Strawberry-Picking Group Experience is P600. This rate is good for five (5) people already. If you will buy strawberries, the price is P360/kilo for small strawberries and P400/kilo for large strawberries.

Colors of StoBoSa, La Trinidad

The Colors of StoBoSa is another popular tourist attraction in La Trinidad. Officially named StoBoSa Hillside Homes Artwork , it was the brainchild of the DOT-CAR in collaboration with the Tam-Awan Village group which came up with several design proposals and over 500 residents/volunteers.

The vast mural encompasses the hillside houses of three sitios in Barangay Balili namely Stonehill, Botiwtiw, and Sadjap, hence the term “StoBoSa”. The Colors of StoBoSa was launched to the public in 2016.

Bell Church, La Trinidad

Also located in Barangay Balili near StoBoSa and the border of Baguio and La Trinidad, the Bell Church is a temple founded by Chinese immigrants from Canton (Guangzhou) in 1960.

The serene atmosphere and the view while strolling around the courtyard attract a lot of tourists to the temple, making it a major tourist destination. It also features a small lily pond.

DOWNTOWN BAGUIO Tourist Spots

Baguio night market.

The concept of night markets in the Philippines might not be as grand, but it is slowly weaving itself through the fabric of market consciousness.

Baguio is developing a strong night market culture, drawing tourists to the area along Harrison Road in the Central Business District. This is perfect for those who want to score bargain items or fill their tummies without digging deeper into their pockets.

Whether going here to shop or to eat, always keep an eye on your belongings.

Sky Ranch Baguio

Sky Ranch is not unique to Baguio, as similar theme parks are also present in Tagaytay and Pampanga, offering pretty much the same rides and experience. But if you haven’t been to one yet, then you may add Sky Ranch Baguio to your itinerary.

Burnham Park

Located at the heart of Baguio, Burnham Park is the most famous attraction in the city. It is dominated by Burnham Lake (or Lagoon) and dotted with other interesting spots like the Rose Garden , a recreational park with a skating rink, the Orchidarium, the Children’s Park, and the Melvin Jones Grandstand.

The park is bustling with lots of fun activities such as renting paddle boats (swan boats), biking, and go-karting. If you get hungry while enjoying the activities around the park or if you just want to go food tripping in the area, food stalls and street food vendors abound so you and your tummy are pretty much covered.

Baguio Museum

Just a short walk from Burnham Park stands the Baguio Museum . It is not hard to find as it’s surrounded by prominent landmarks like the University of Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City National High School, and SM Baguio.

The museum’s collections tell the history of the city and showcase the culture of the Cordillera region. The four floors host all the collections classified into categories — Baguio Gallery, Cordillera Gallery, and the Alternative Gallery.

The building also has a training floor and a multi-purpose hall. The museum started rehabilitation and renovation in 2017 and is targeted to finish in 2020.

Baguio Cathedral

Baguio Cathedral , officially named Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral , is a hilltop cathedral overlooking Session Road and the busy downtown streets. It was launched in 1936 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

It follows a neo-Romanesque architectural style that features twin belfries/spires, a rose window (facade), and stained glass windows. It is one of the prominent landmarks in Baguio and is located beside Saint Louis University.

To access it from Session Road, visitors have to climb several steps, leading to the courtyard and the cathedral. Alternatively, you can go to Porta Vaga Shopping Mall and use the escalator leading to the cathedral’s courtyard.

Ukay-Ukay Stores

Baguio won’t be Baguio without “SM” — Segunda Mano stores. These second-hand stores, locally called wagwagan but popularly called by tourists ukay-ukay , littered the busy streets and corners of downtown Baguio. Tourists will find themselves easily getting lost in the mountains of options for pre-loved items. The pieces vary — clothing, bags, shoes, belts, scarves, and others.

Honestly, the wide range of choices can get really overwhelming. But if you have the patience and the stamina (haha), you might dig up some vintage and rare items. The popular ukay-ukay areas are Skyworld (Session Road), Hilltop (at the back of Baguio City Market), and Bayanihan (near Burnham Park). You’ll also find some, well, good finds, at the night market!

Session Road Nightlife

One of the city’s major arteries, Session Road is the most famous street in Baguio. It is abuzz with locals and tourists going about their business during the day, but it becomes livelier at night as bars and hangout places pulsate with good music and great conversations.

If you want to have dinner first before losing yourself in music and booze with friends and maybe new acquaintances, Session Road hosts numerous international restaurants and fast-food restaurants.

But if you want to try the local offerings, it is also home to several homegrown restaurants including Sizzling Plate, Ocha Asian Restaurant, Vizco’s Restaurant, Volante, Oh My Gulay, and Drop Out, among others.

Baguio Public Market

For pasalubong, make your way to the Baguio Public Market, which houses countless stalls selling products that are synonymous with the region — fresh strawberries and Sagada oranges, strawberry and ube jams, peanut brittle, fresh vegetables, and souvenirs!

And of course, grab a walis tambo!

There’s something about Baguio’s walis tambo that makes it consistently land in the top items of pasalubong from the city. For some reason, my mom and aunts never fail to buy one when we’re in Baguio or request it from loved ones visiting Baguio. I asked my mom about it and she casually told me that the walis tambo from Baguio is sturdier and thicker.

LEONARD WOOD & MINES VIEW Tourist Spots

In this section are attractions situated northwest of the city center, usually reached by taking the Leonard Wood Road.

Baguio Botanical Garden

One of the many green spaces in the city, the Baguio Botanical Garden (renamed Centennial Park) is located between Wright Park and Teacher’s Camp, along Leonard Wood Road.

This is another popular attraction in the city where visitors can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the verdant surroundings. The extensive garden park is just a short drive from Baguio’s Central Business District. It has many walking paths where you can see many photo-worthy spots. It also harbors the Baguio Arts Guild and the Igorot Village.

Wright Park

Another vast greenery is the Wright Park , named after the former Governor-General Luke Edward Wright.

This is a favorite leisure spot for both locals and tourists. It’s a lush park that offers walking and jogging trails, biking paths, and rest spots. It features a long pond or pool that almost covers the whole stretch of concrete path linking the Wright Park Kiosk and The Mansion facade. It also has a pine tree-covered forest hill adjacent to the horse stable.

If you want to go horseback riding in Baguio, Wright Park provides quite a number of horses to choose from, plus it’s not too far from the city center.

The Mansion

Wright Park’s long concrete path with a pool leads to the gate of the Mansion House , popularly referred to as The Mansion. It was commissioned in 1908 to serve as the official residence of the US Governor-General in the Philippines. It underwent reconstruction in 1947 after sustaining huge damage during the Second World War.

Presently, it functions as the official summer palace of the President of the Philippines. It is also the site for other important state functions and international gatherings.

Address: The Mansion, Baguio-Bua-Itogon Road, Baguio City Opening Hours: 24/7 (Mansion Gate). Most of the time, the Mansion is closed to the public, so visitors can only get a glimpse of the actual mansion from the entrance gate.

Mines View Park

Usually crowded with hordes of tourists, Mines View Park is definitely one of the most popular tourist spots. My local friends say that this is more like a tourist trap, but we’re tourists so go check it out still and see why it’s popular in the first place.

It features an observation deck that presents a panoramic view of the former gold and copper mines of Itogon town below and the mountains beyond. This is also one of the best spots for sunrise watching.

If you want to avoid the crowd, go there early in the morning. The place is peppered with numerous shops, stalls, and peddlers selling souvenir items, clothes, trinkets, food, and even plants! The entrance to the park is located along Gibraltar Road.

Plant sellers also abound in the area. Baguio’s chilly atmosphere makes it favorable for growing plants — flowering, herbs, and ornamental. The wide range of choices will make veteran and newbie plantitos and plantitas go gaga over these bloom and foliage babies.

Good Shepherd Products

Not far from Mines View Park is a place where you can get the famous ube jam . It’s a quintessential pasalubong stop in Baguio where tourists willingly wait in line for the signature ube jam and other favorite products.

What makes buying from Good Shepherd special and fulfilling is its advocacy. Good Shepherd has built a good reputation for producing quality products for a cause. So where does your money go? Check the packaging (usually printed on the lid): “You help send us to college each time you buy our products”. The proceeds will be used to help send the Cordillera youth to college.

Other products are strawberry jam (seasonal), blueberry jam (seasonal), peanut cluster, cashew brittle, lengua , snowballs, angel cookies, choco flakes, alfajor cookies, banana chips, sampaloc candy, and more. There’s a strict ordering system — write down your orders first, queue, and hand over your order and payment to the attendant.

Also, don’t forget to try some of their Take Out Products which are basically snack/merienda items. Note that the lines can get too long during the peak season and there is an order limit per person. When they products are sold out, they close the site (like during our last visit).

CULINARY ATTRACTIONS

Baguio takes pride in its robust local culinary scene. Making the most of the abundance of ingredients, the locals came up with lots of innovative ways to create dishes and food products that embody the Cordillera region and neighboring Ilocos region, whose influence also seeps into the city.

Many of these dishes are available at various restaurants and eateries around Baguio. Some of the most well-known are pinikpikan (chicken soup), pinuneg (blood sausage) and kinuday (smoked meat), as well as dinakdakan (boiled, sliced and grilled pig’s head parts) and bagnet (deep-fried pork).

But if you want to sample a lot of delicacies at once, head over to The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant , situated just next to Tam-awan Village. They serve mostly Cordilleran and Ilocano fare, prepared traditionally.

If you prefer a more modern twist, Cafe by the Ruins is an established name in the city’s food scene.

Local restaurants also add their Baguio twist to other Pinoy favorites. Mines View Park Hotel’s ZENZ Bar and Restaurant serves strawberry sinigang and strawberry adobo.

You can also go food tripping at the night market, Burnham Park, Ili-Likha, Good Shepherds, and Session Road, just to name a few.

Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe

You might be thinking, Oh My Gulay is a local restaurant. Why does it have its own entry? Well, if you’ve been to this art cafe, you know it deserves its own spot!

Nestled on the top floor of an old building along Session Road, I was not expecting anything for that day’s lunch stop. And to be honest, I was not too excited at first because I’m not really into vegetables. But when I took the last flight of stairs, boy was I blown away by the quirky interiors and decorations! It was like being transported into a secret, mystical world. And the indoor garden setting has its own small pond, too!

The restaurant has two-level dining areas. The upper level has two separate sections connected by a short wooden hanging bridge. The lower-level dining area has indoor seatings as well as veranda seatings with a view of the city. A collaboration of Oh My Gulay and Vocas, the place also features exhibit areas for local artists. As the name of the restaurant suggests, it serves affordable vegetarian and vegan meals.

Ili-Likha Artist’s Wateringhole

Lying along Assumption Road is the very peculiar Ili-Likha Artist’s Wateringhole , also known as Ili-Likha Artist Village . It was built by artist and filmmaker Eric de Guia (Kidlat Tahimik), who transformed a vacant lot into this whimsical treehouse-themed food park in 2014.

The place highlights the importance of preserving nature and culture through arts and food. It is an evolving work of art with several interesting corners and iconic features like the mosaic-covered staircase.

The homegrown restaurants serve healthy, preservative-free, and organic food. Some of the restaurants are Balbacua, Leandro’s Bistro, Yomichee, Ibana, Little Milkyway Vegan Café, Oh My Gulay, Café Cueva, Kape Kullaaw, Waynu, Scout Burrows, and Natengan Ed Ili.

It also houses arts and crafts shops and hosts different events and workshops. The whole place is photo-worthy and visitors will enjoy the relaxing and creative atmosphere.

Baguio’s International Restaurants

Aside from the homegrown restaurants, Baguio also offers diverse international cuisines — Korean, Japanese, American, Chinese, and Vietnamese, to name a few. We will write a separate article about it with more details soon so watch out for that.

Baguio Craft Brewery and Craft 1945

Enough about food! How about some drinks? And by drinks, we mean beer!

If you are the type who likes hunting for local craft beers or you just want to have a chill dinner-and-beer type of night in Baguio, there are good watering holes in the city where you can quench your thirst for beer.

Baguio Craft Brewery is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. It offers a wide selection of craft beers, including its signature craft beers named after Ifugao’s mythic characters.

Craft 1945 , partly managed by Baguio Craft Brewery, is a Spanish-themed restaurant serving premium craft beers, tapas and other Spanish dishes.

Benguet Coffee

Coffee is everywhere in Baguio, and it’s not hard to score Benguet coffee when in town. The city’s high altitude and cooler temperature make it one of the best places in the Philippines to grow coffee.

You can actually buy some at the public market or at cafés like Kape Umali , which is also the biggest coffee supplier in the province and other parts of northern Luzon. The café serves traditional brews as well as specialty brews like liquor coffee and gourmet coffee. Enjoy the music and appreciate artworks at the cafe’s gallery too! The three branches are located in Shangri-la Village, Mine’s View, and Baguio Market.

Ube and Strawberry Taho

Don’t you dare get out of Baguio without trying strawberry taho . They are everywhere, especially in the vicinity of popular tourist spots including Burnham Park, Session Road, and Mines View Park to name a few.

Taho is a distinct Filipino snack made of silken soybean curd (tofu), brown sugar syrup, and tapioca (sago pearls). It’s traditionally served or peddled in the morning but nowadays, it can be consumed any time of the day, depending on availability.

Since strawberries are plenty in Baguio, the locals made their own version by replacing brown sugar syrup with strawberry syrup. And boy did they own it!

If you feel like you’ve had enough of strawberries, ube taho is also available.

Strawberry Ice Cream

Still on the topic of putting a twist on regular snacks, the locals are really making the most of their strawberries by coming up with their own strawberry-flavored ice cream. Fine, strawberry ice cream is not new to the market BUT the ones in Baguio taste different. And we mean in a good way.

For us, the best that we’ve tried are those sold at La Trinidad Strawberry Farm. But if you are pressed for time, you can easily find it in downtown Baguio.

1. Mines View Park

Located on the northeastern outskirts of Baguio City, this park offers an overlooking view of the mining towns of Itogon and Amburayan Valley. Its iconic viewing deck, posted in almost every promotional tourism poster, made Mines View Park a famous tourist attraction. You can enjoy the beautiful mountain ranges while savoring the calm wind.

Mines View Park also has a handful of activities to offer. You can buy souvenirs in their local shops, wear native Igorot costumes , or make a wish in their wishing well. This park is an excellent addition to your Baguio City tour, perfect for kids, families, and friends.

How to go to Mines View Park: You can take a cab/taxi from the city to go to Mines View Park. You can also take a jeepney ride from the terminal on Lower Mabini Street to the park. Jeepney fare is around PHP 12.

2. Good Shepherd Convent

Only a few meters from Mines View Park, you’ll find the best delicacies in Baguio City in Good Shepherd Convent. Food products here range from freshly made fruit jams, peanut butter, locally made biscuits, and fresh juices. Your friends and relatives in the metro will surely love the products of Good Shepherd Convent.

How to go to Good Shepherd Convent: From the entrance of Mines View Park, walk along Gibraltar Road, and you’ll pass Modesta Street. Turn right on the road after Modesta Street, and it will lead you to the Good Shepherd Convent.

3. Wright Park and The Mansion

Filipino families love visiting this iconic tourist spot in Baguio. Wright Park is located a few kilometers away from Mines View Deck. It is named after American Governor Luke Wright and serves as a recreational area where tourists can ride horseback. Additionally, Wright Park offers a scenic view with tall pine trees and a pond overlooking the Mansion. It’s a great addition to your list of places to visit in Baguio.

4. La Trinidad Strawberry Farm

We know this place is not part of Baguio City. However, this tourist attraction outside Baguio City is worth visiting. These colorful fields are home to the best strawberries in the Philippines. Being coined as the Strawberry Capital of the Philippines, La Trinidad produces the most significant amount of strawberries in the country. After having a side trip in the Valley of Colors, you can ride straight to La Trinidad Strawberry Farm.

This place has no entrance fee, so that you can have a visual treat with your friends and family. You can also experience strawberry picking for only PHP 200-450 per kilogram; the farmers will also teach and assist you in harvesting your produce. The best part of visiting La Trinidad Strawberry Farm is tasting their luscious strawberries! Never miss that part! You can also try other varieties like their famous strawberry ice cream or taho.

5. Valley of Colors

This colorful hillside community is located in La Trinidad, Benguet. Although it’s not part of the city, it is an excellent addition to the list of tourist attractions in Baguio. Just a jeepney ride from the town proper, you can visit this vibrant village and awash your eyes in different colors.

The Valley of Colors is also known as the Stobosa Mural, abridged from three localities:  Stonehill ,  Botiwtiw , and  Sadjap . This work of art is inspired by Favela Painting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and spearheaded by the local government to boost tourism in the area. Include this as a side trip to your itinerary before heading to La Trinidad Strawberry Farm.

How to go to Valley of Colors: Take a jeep with the “La Trinidad” signage from the La Trinidad Terminal in front of Baguio City Hall. The fare is PHP 12. 6. Bell Church

The Bell Church is a Chinese temple near the Valley of Colors in La Trinidad, Benguet. It has been attracting tourists for decades, and the temple represents a piece of Chinese culture in the area. Today, the Bell Church serves as a spiritual place for conducting religious practices in the community.

How to go to Bell Church:  After visiting the Valley of Colors, you can walk or take a public jeep to Bell Church Road. The landmark is an archway decorated with dragons and a bell in the middle. Take the Bell Church Road until you arrive at the Chinese temple.

7. Tam-Awan Village

Tam-awan  is a cultural village and art center built by the local artists of Baguio City. Its primary purpose is to preserve and bring the culture of the Cordillera to tourists. Significant attractions in Tam-Awan Village are their art galleries, authentic nipa huts, cafes, cultural shows, and workshops. You can even lodge in their nipa huts for a whole Igorot experience at an affordable PHP 500 per person daily. So include this beautiful Baguio tourist spot and have an immersive Cordilleran experience.

How to go to Tam-Awan Village: From Baguio City proper, go to Kayang Street, and you’ll find a jeepney station. 8. Igorot Stone Kingdom

A new Baguio tourist spot, this park also represents the creativity and rich heritage of the Igorots. The Igorots are said to be skillful in balancing stones and creating sturdy structures. Aside from these representations, the Igorot Stone Kingdom shares valuable histories and backgrounds about their colorful culture.

How to go to the Igorot Stone Kingdom: From Baguio City proper, go to Kayang Street, and you’ll find a jeepney station. Take the jeep with the “Long-long” signage and inform the driver that you will alight in the Igorot Stone Kingdom. The fare is PHP 22.

9. BenCab Museum

BenCab Museum houses different forms of contemporary art. The museum also has the will to preserve the environment and the cultural heritage of the Cordilleras. This art gallery is located in Tuba, Benguet, on a promontory of rainforests and mountains.

Aside from its artwork and sculptures, you’ll enjoy its peaceful ambiance and the cool mountain breeze ventilating inside the building. You can also spend time with friends and family in their Cafe or garden outside the museum. If you plan to visit Baguio City, include the BenCab Museum on your itinerary and indulge in good food, nature, and beautiful artwork.

10. Camp John Hay

Camp John Hay was once a United States Armed Forces military base. Today, it is one of the tourist attractions in Baguio, with different attractions. However, Baguio City also played a significant role in US history, and Camp John Hay is the perfect place to rediscover its backstory.

The base is populated with pine trees, and you’ll have a relaxing visit to this popular Baguio tourist spot. Popular destinations are the Bell House – a resting place for US commanders during the early 1900s, the Bell Amphitheater, the History Trail, the Secret Garden, and the Cemetery of Negativism. After spending time around the camp, calm your mind in Starbucks Camp John Hay and enjoy a cup of hot coffee while savoring the cool mountain breeze and the peaceful grove of pine trees.

How to go to Camp John Hay: Go to Perfecto Street near Burnham Park, and you’ll find a jeepney terminal. Look for the jeep to “Scout Barrio” and inform the driver that you will alight in Camp John Hay. The fare is PHP 9.00.

11. Mirador Hill

This park is one of the newest tourist attractions in Baguio and is part of the Mirador Jesuit Villa. What makes this place interesting is its quiet and peaceful environment, perfect for travelers looking for a reflective rest in the busy atmosphere of Baguio City. After a day of touring around the city of Pines, we recommend visiting this hill in the afternoon to see the scenic sunset in the background while taking a restful break.

How to go to Mirador Hill: Take a public jeep from Kayang Street and tell the driver to drop you off at Mirador Jesuit Villa. The fare costs PHP 10 (USD 0.2), and the park is open daily from 6 AM to 6 PM. There’s also an entrance fee of PHP 100 (USD 2).

12. Session Road

This one-mile road is the business centerpiece of Baguio City. Session Road is filled with different stores, restaurants, and places to hang out. Notable restaurants along Session Road are the Oh My Gulay  Restaurant, Retro Diner, Tea House Restaurant and Bakeshop, and many more. You can also find affordable souvenir shops, clothing stores, and other essentials along Session Road.

13. Baguio Cathedral

Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral, also known as Baguio Cathedral, is a historic structure near the busy Session Road. The two-spired cathedral is well known for its design covered with pink paint. The Baguio Cathedral also became an evacuation site for the locals of Benguet during World War II. Travelers visit this tourist attraction in Baguio to learn about its rich history, and cultural significance, and admire its wondrous beauty.

How to go to Baguio Cathedral: From Session Road, go to Fr. Carlu Street, and on your left is the Baguio Cathedral.

14. Burnham Park

The Burnham Park Reservation is a historic landmark located in downtown Baguio City. It is named after Daniel Burnham, an American urban planner and architect who designed the whole city of Baguio. This park is a great hangout place for all ages, and there are several attractions you can try. You can sail a boat in the park’s artificial lake, try delicious street foods, buy delicacies, or stroll around the park. At night, the city becomes alive because of their night market.

15. Baguio Night Market

One of the tourist attractions in Baguio that you must not miss is the Night Market on Harrison Road. As the clock strikes nine in the evening, a portion of Harrison Road becomes alive and festive, filled with thrift shops and stores. There are many items to buy in Baguio Night Market, which never fails to attract customers and travelers.

Products here range from bags, footwear, clothing, and digital accessories. There are also souvenir items and kitchenware that you can buy in this place. You’ll have great finds and wonderful pasalubong for your loved ones in this market.

16. Cafe in the Sky (Closed to the Public)

This Cafe offers the most picturesque view of Baguio City. It is located on top of Mt. Cabuyao in Tuba, Benguet, and its high altitude overlooks the beautiful city of Baguio. There’s nothing special on their menu. What’s remarkable, though, is the experience and its astonishing view. However, Cafe in the Sky is in a protected area imposed by the Philippines Supreme Court, which restricts travelers from visiting. You’ll be lucky if you pass through the checkpoint. 17. Old Diplomat Hotel

This hotel is an abandoned structure that served as a hotel and a retreat house decades ago. Travelers visit the place to learn about its historical importance during the Second World War. Others wanted to visit the Diplomat Hotel to see if ghosts and spirits genuinely haunt the site. Whether it’s a scary trip or not, this place still stands today with great stories of the past etched on its walls.

18. Lion’s Head

This forty-foot-tall statue is located in Camp 6 along Kennon Road near the boundary of Tuba and Baguio City. It is a landmark for tourists traveling to Baguio City, and the structure was carved from a limestone boulder in the 1970s. Over the decades, travelers used the landmark as a reference point to Baguio City. Tired travelers can stop over in this place, relax at the nearby view deck, and witness the beautiful panorama of the Cordillera mountains. What’s Inside Mirador Heritage and Eco Park 

These are the attractions inside the Mirador Heritage and Eco Park.

Rock Gardens

This new destination at the Mirador Hill Eco Park is where you can see different rock formations. At Rock Gardens, you will be hiking for a bit so for safety purposes, use footwear suitable for hiking, and wear comfortable clothes.

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove 

If St. Francis Xavier Seminary has a Kawayanan or Bamboo Eco-Park at Pacdal, Liteng, at Mirador Hill you can also enjoy the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. This area is one of the relaxing parts of the eco-park and this is one of the best spots to take instagrammable photos.

Peace Memorial

The Mirador Hill’s Peace Memorial was blessed last December 2020. In this part of the eco-park, you can see the Torii Gate, a Bell which is repurposed from an unexploded bomb dropped during WWII at the Mirador Hill, and a Multi-terraced Landscape. Location of the Mirador Heritage and Eco Park

This new attraction is located at Mirador Jesuit Villa and Retreat House in Baguio City.

To those who have been to the Lourdes Grotto, it’s going to be easier for you to locate the Mirador Heritage and Eco Park because both of the attractions are located in the same area.

Transportation

If you are planning to visit the place, you can arrive at the said new tourist destination through jeepney, taxi, and private car.

• Fare: 11 pesos
• Fare: 70 to 100 pesos from town proper.

Parking Fee

For those with private cars, there is an available parking area near the registration area and the parking fee is PHP 25.00. 

Entrance Fee

Before you can start exploring the place, register first and the entrance fee is PHP 100.00 per head. The registration area is beside the Rock Gardens.  Disclaimer: Rates may be subject to change without prior notice.

Opening Time

The Mirador Jesuit Villa’s Heritage and Eco Park are open from 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Mirador Heritage & Eco Park | Recreation Spot on Top of a Hill

If you’re looking for a place in Baguio with overlooking views and picturesque surroundings without having to go too far from the city center, Mirador Heritage & Eco Park is the place to go! It is one of the newest attractions in Baguio that has been getting much attention since it opened in late 2020. Here, you can enjoy the Baguio weather while admiring the green sceneries and good views of the city from a hilltop.

Our experience at Mirador Heritage & Eco Park

The entrance fee is 100php per person, and you can get here simply by taking a taxi from anywhere in Baguio. The park is situated at Mirador Hill, where the Lourdes Grotto also stands.

It covers 5 hectares of multi-terrace landscaped park having several different sections. We traversed the path covering most of the attractions (except for Lourdes Grotto since it’s quite big of a climb and we’re not so interested ). We enjoyed the beauty of the place especially the Mirador Peace Memorial, Blue Moon Gate, and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

From the entrance, we were advised to go straight to the Mirador Peace Memorial (the one with a made-up Japanese Torii) which is the highest point of the park. Then from there, we can go down and visit other sections up to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. It was a good advice since the path from the entrance to the Mirador Peace Memorial was not too steep and there are no stairs so it’s directly accessible for everyone.

Our first stop was the Mirador Peace Memorial. This is where those pretty social media photos were taken. There’s a red arch fashioned like a Japanese Torii Gate which gives a bit of Japanese atmosphere to the city of pines. Not only the Torii, but more especially the view from up here is stunning! You can have a bird’s eye view of the city with the mountains in the background. Relax by the many benches available, savor the view, take great photos, and smell the cool pine breeze of Baguio.

Just a little trivia. In Japan, it is believed that you should not walk through the middle of the Torii Gate as it is reserved only for the Kami (god). But of course, this isn’t a real Torii and we’re not in Japan so this is obviously just a good props for photo ops (because we Filipinos are so fond of such). I’m not into Shintoism but if ever I’d be in Japan soon, I’ll respect their culture by simply not walking through the middle (and I could share my faith as well if they’d allow me).

There were just a few tourists since we went a bit early (before 8 am). Around 9 am other tourists arrived though it still wasn’t too crowded since it was a weekday. Tip: If you don’t like overcrowding (and traffic), you better go during weekdays. I could only imagine the long queue of tourists for each attraction during weekends and holidays!

Next is the Blue Moon Gate, located just next to the Peace Memorial. You just need to climb down a few steps of stairs and you’ll be greeted by another breathtaking view. There are lounges by the cliffside great for photo-ops. You can hang out here and enjoy the view while saving up energy for the next attractions!

Our next target was the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, but before we could reach it we needed to pass by the other sections first.

And here we come! Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is one of the main attractions here in Mirador Heritage & Eco Park. It gives a little taste of Japan as it not only resembles the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, but it’s even named after it! We haven’t been to Japan yet, but we appreciate the place so much. It is clean and peaceful. You can feel the Baguio climate while being surrounded by green bamboo forests.

This is where we spent the longest time. There are many benches within the forest so you can take a rest anytime you need one. It was such a refreshing and rejuvenating experience to be encircled by bamboo trees that served as temporary shield from all the outside noise and stress. It’s like you’re in a haven where you can pause for a while, breathe, and clear up your mind.

The Bamboo Grove is our last stop and is near the entrance gate. If you only intend to visit the Bamboo Grove and Peace Memorial, you can do so as they are both directly accessible from the entrance. But if you want to traverse the whole path, you can too. It’s really up to you. In our case, we allotted the whole morning for this so we have ample time to explore the park.

All in all, we had a great time exploring Mirador Heritage & Eco Park. It’s true that this is one of the best and enjoyable tourist sports in Baguio !

Lunch at Good Taste Restaurant

It was a rewarding, yet, physically tiring venture so we went straight to Good Taste Restaurant to refuel. From Mirador Park, we took a 10-minute taxi ride going to the restaurant.

We expected a generous serving because of the reviews. But we did not expect it to be this sumptuous! Each meal is I think good for 2 moderate eaters like us. That’s why we had many leftovers, which we took home for Mamba (the resident doggo in the Airbnb we rented).

The meals are not only hearty, but delicious as well. It really matches the restaurants name “Good Taste”. Kudos for the consistent branding!

After the satisfying lunch at Good Taste Restaurant, we went back to our Airbnb to take some rest because the Tito and Tita in us just wanted to relax and not to have a tight itinerary. At dinner time, we tried Cafe by the Ruins just near Burnham Park. Stay tuned to our next posts about our recent Baguio trip!

Mirador Heritage and Eco Park: A Piece of Japan in Baguio

At first glance, one will think that this spot is in Kyoto or somewhere in Japan. Lo and behold, this is Mirador Heritage and Eco Park located just in Baguio City!

This iconic structure is actually is a torii, a traditional Japanese gate usually found at the entrance of a Shinto shrine which symbolizes the transition from the mundane to the sacred. This torii is just among the many attractions in Mirador Heritage and Eco Park !

Located in the Jesuit’s managed Mirador Hill , Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is the newest development in the area. This multi-terrace landscaped park stands on the same spot as the famed Lourdes Grotto with a commanding view of Baguio City. The park covers five (5) hectares with different sections and attractions such as rock garden, bamboo grove and peace memorial, among others.

A visit to Baguio City is never complete for Catholic pilgrims without climbing the 252-stair steps to the Lourdes Grotto. Since 1913, faithfuls visit the site to light candles, offer flowers, and ask for the Blessed Mother’s intercession.

Mirador Rock Garden

The Rock Garden offers a little adventure with its uphill hiking trail through rock-landscaped steps and pathways, and boulders. Get your hiking shoes on and explore around on your own pace while enjoying the scenic view of Baguio.

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

This is Mirador’s answer to the renowned Arashiyama Bamboo Grove of Kyoto in Japan. A stroll around Mirador’s Arashiyama Bamboo Grove will give us a glimpse of the famed Japanese tourist attraction with its bamboo forest. The same attraction already exists in Baguio at St. Francis Xavier Seminary’s Bamboo Sanctuary in Pacdal-Liteng but Mirador’s bamboo sanctuary breathes more earthly and forestry feels.

Mirador Peace Memorial

The Peace Memorial is accented with the now iconic Japanese torii gate and is fast becoming the most photographed spot in Baguio. A bell hanging above the torii is actually one of the two bells made from the unexploded and neutralized bomb recovered at Mirador Hill after the carpet bombing of Baguio during World War II. This spot offers one of the most dramatic sunsets in the city overlooking the western villages of Baguio and the Lingayen Gulf on the clear days.

Jesuit Villa and Retreat House

More than a tourist attraction, the Jesuit Villa and Retreat House offers a serene sanctuary for spiritual nourishment. From being a meteorological observatory and home for Jesuits which still is, it now serves as a retreat house. It is open for everyone who wishes to reflect, pray and escape the chaos of life.

While most of the attractions in Mirador Heritage and Eco Park are for spiritual and mental nourishment, a small café atop offers nourishment of body for those craving for quick eats and drinks. Café Iñigo by Ebai serves cakes, pastries and specialty drinks with a view! The tiny café was once a long distance station of PLDT and a caretaker’s house before repurposing as Café Iñigo to honor St. Ignatius of Loyola.

How to Get to Mirador Heritage and Eco Park

Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is roughly four (4) kilometers away from Baguio City proper. To get there by public transportation, take a jeepney going to Lourdes Grotto at Kayang Street, fare is P9. Alternatively, you may also take your car and park it on their designated parking spaces. You may also take a taxi to take you there.

Rates and Operating Hours

Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is open daily from 6AM to 6PM. Entrance fee is P100 pesos (below 12 years old is free), but one can give more as a donation for the maintenance of the place. Pets and bringing of own food is not allowed.

A trip to Baguio wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Burnham Park, often regarded as the heart and soul of the city. Named after the American architect Daniel Hudson Burnham, this urban oasis offers a place to relax and enjoy outdoor activities.

Mines View Park is one of the most established tourist spots in Baguio. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the mining town of Itogon and the surrounding mountains.

Aside from the sights, there are other touristy activities you can do here including donning traditional Cordillera attire, taking pictures with Saint Bernard dogs, and buying local snacks and souvenirs.

One of the best things to do in Baguio is harvesting your own strawberries at the La Trinidad Strawberry Farm!

This farm is a berry lover’s paradise. You can pick and pay strawberries during the strawberry-picking season (usually from November to May). Or visit other parts of the farm where a variety of vegetables are being grown for an educational experience.

Located in Tuba, Benguet, this museum is the brainchild of national artist Benedicto Cabrera (BenCab). It showcases a vast collection of contemporary and indigenous Philippine art.

Interestingly, one of the most famous attractions in Baguio City is a “haunted house” — the Diplomat Hotel. This abandoned structure was once a rest house for Dominican friars and then a military garrison and war prison during the WWII. In the 1970s, it was converted into a hotel. It ceased operations once the owner died.

The Diplomat Hotel is often considered one of the most haunted places in the Philippines. Currently, the hotel is closed to the public but you are still welcome to take pictures from outside and appreciate the views of the city from its hilltop location.

Located a short drive from Baguio, Bridal Veil Falls is a lovely roadside attraction. Named for its cascading waters that resemble a bridal veil, this waterfall is a peaceful spot for picture taking, swimming, and enjoying the cool mountain air.

You can visit the Bridal Veil Falls if you drive along Kennon Road. Cross the hanging bridge to take a closer look at the falls.

There is no entrance fee here but there is a donation box at the bridge entry.

No visit to Baguio is complete without exploring the vibrant Baguio Public Market. This bustling market is a treasure trove of local products. You can buy cheap fresh produce grown in the nearby mountains, woven textiles, and wood carvings.

It’s an excellent place to pick up souvenirs and savor local snacks like strawberry jam, peanut brittle, and ube (purple yam) products.

Opened in 2021, the Igorot Stone Kingdom is one of the newest Baguio tourist spots to visit. It is a theme park based on the legend of Sab-angan, an Igorot Kingdom in the past.

The park showcases the indigenous life in the Cordilleras through its amphitheater-like stone walls, stone houses, and other displays. The view from the top areas offers a view of the surrounding valley and the sunset.

One of the newest attractions accessible via Baguio City is the Colors of StoBoSa (officially known as StoBoSa Hillside Homes Artwork).

It is a hillside community located in La Trinidad, where houses have been painted in various colors to create a mural. The mural encompasses three sitios in the barangay including Stonehill, Botiwtiw, and Sadjap (hence the term “StoBoSa”). It is considered the country’s first community artwork.

This tourist attraction can be visited on the way to the strawberry farm. Head to the bridge for the best spot to take pictures.

Pro Tip: Parking spaces are limited, so if you’re bringing your car it’s best to go on weekdays.

Commuting here is easy since you only need to ride the same jeepney that goes to the strawberry farm. Ask the driver to drop you off at Mount Kalugong and then hike for 30 minutes to the eco-park. Once there, you’ll reach rock formations with a pleasant view of the town below and a café called Kape-An where you can enjoy pastries and brewed coffee while enjoying the view.

When you’re in Baguio, one of the things you should do is take a leisurely stroll along Session Road, the city’s bustling commercial and entertainment district.

This lively street is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars, boutiques, and souvenir shops. It’s the perfect place to experience the city’s vibrant urban life, enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee, or savor local delicacies.

Baguio is a haven for food enthusiasts, offering a range of local and international dishes.

Be sure to sample fresh strawberries, as well as strawberry-flavored taho. The Panagbenga Flower Festival is Baguio’s annual flower extravaganza, featuring elaborate floats adorned with vibrant blooms, street dancing, and other cultural performances. I’m attaching here the ingredients and recipe of the chee cheong fun at taman esplanad that ive been eating every twice a week.

Ingredients:

For Chee Cheong Fun:

250g rice flour 2 tablespoons tapioca flour 2 1/2 cups water 1/2 teaspoon salt Vegetable oil for greasing

For Sweet Sauce:

3 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce 2 tablespoons oyster sauce 2 tablespoons sesame oil 1 tablespoon sugar 1 cup water 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)

For Fish Curry:

500g fish fillets (such as snapper or mackerel), cut into chunks 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 onion, finely chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 tablespoon ginger, minced 2 tablespoons curry powder 1 can (400ml) coconut milk 1 cup water Salt and pepper to taste Chopped cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Chee Cheong Fun batter: In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, tapioca flour, water, and salt. Whisk until smooth. Let the batter rest for 30 minutes.

Grease a large, shallow heatproof dish or a plate with vegetable oil. Pour a thin layer of the batter onto the greased dish. Steam over high heat for 5-7 minutes until set. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Once cooked, carefully roll up each piece of Chee Cheong Fun and slice into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.

Prepare the sweet sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

For the fish curry: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Sauté until fragrant and onions are translucent.

Stir in curry powder and cook for another minute until aromatic.

Add fish chunks to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly browned.

Pour in coconut milk and water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook for 8-10 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the curry has thickened slightly.

To serve, arrange the sliced Chee Cheong Fun on a plate. Drizzle with sweet sauce and ladle fish curry over the top. Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Chee Cheong Fun with sweet sauce and fish curry!

Mahirap hanapin yung ganyan recipe sa Pinas.. pati mga ibang locals dito sa KL ang alam sa Chee Cheong Fun is ung matamis lang na sauce and walang curry na option and mostly sambal ung partner. 😀 kaya medyo unique ung sa Taman Esplanad ang problem lang mahaba ung pila pag 9am to 10am.

Yung teh tarik ata sa pinas mostly indonesian style kaya iba lasa.

Comprehensive travel blog of Baguio tourists spots, includes how to get there and nearby tourist destinations.

The Baguio City that we see today was designed by the Americans, this is why you’ll find some tourist spots here with American names like Camp John Hay and Burnham Park.  After the Spaniards surrendered the Philippines to the United States, they established a hill station in Baguio City because they were beckoned by the  pleasant weather and pine-fringed hills here. But long before the said foreigners arrived here, Baguio City was already inhabited by the Kankana-ey and Ibaloi indigenous peoples of the Cordillera Region, an area known as Kafagway back then.

Fast forward today, Baguio is a melting pot of cultures and where the modern and the traditional thrive and blend beautifully.  Baguio has long been my favorite vacation spot, yes, it’s now pretty crowded especially during holidays and weekends, but it holds a special place in my heart because this is where I traveled during my first solo trip over a decade ago. There’s this good, unexplainable feeling whenever I visit this bustling city.

BEST BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

1. MIRADOR HERITAGE AND ECO-SPIRITUALITY PARK

This is probably the most popular Baguio tourist spot now because it is reminiscent of Japan – from the Bamboo Forest that’ll remind you of Arashiyama Bamboo Forest in Kyoto to the red torrii gate with a hanging bell that is actually a repurposed bomb dropped during the World War II called Mirador Peace Memorial.

Mirador Heritage Park also has limestone rock gardens with glorious pine trees. Here you’ll find the Lourdes Grotto, Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Ifugao Houses, Mirador Peace Memorial, Blue Moon Gate, Cordillera Heritage Garden, and more. The view here of the colorful Baguio houses and buildings is majestic especially during foggy days. This new Baguio tourist attraction is situated in Mirador Jesuit Villa and Retreat House, it’s actually where the classic Baguio attraction – Lourdes Grotto is located.

2. HERITAGE HILL AND NATURE PARK GARDEN (DIPLOMAT HOTEL)

• How to get to Diplomat Hotel:
• Make your way to the jeepney terminal of jeepneys bound for Dominican Hill.  Ask the driver if it will pass by Diplomat Hotel, ride the jeepney, and tell the driver to drop you off at the path going to Diplomat Hotel. Fare starts at ₱13 ($0.23).
• Nearby Baguio Tourist Attraction: Mirador Heritage Park, Lourdes Grotto

Another famous Baguio tourist spot is Diplomat Hotel or Dominican Hill Retreat House, known by many as a haunted building because of its tragic past.  It’s officially declared as a historic site in 2013.  The Diplomat Hotel was originally designed as a vacation house for the American Friars of Dominican Order, hence the name of the hill.

During the World War II, the building was taken over by the Japanese soldiers, who made it as their barracks. It is said that they raped, tortured, and killed refugees, nuns, and priests.  Eventually, the Americans bombed a portion of the Diplomat Hotel and the Japanese soldiers committed suicide.

In 1973, the Diplomat Hill was acquired and turned into a hotel, managed by Baguio-based businessman Tony Agpaoa.  Unfortunately, he died due to a heart attack.

  3. IGOROT STONE KINGDOM

One of the new Baguio tourist spots that is slowly gaining attraction is the Igorot Stone Kingdom.  This latest park in Baguio, situated along Long-Long Street in Pinsao Proper Village, flaunts the new and old Igorot Culture and tradition as well as the values of the Cordillera People. The towering stone wall is reminiscent of an old-world castle and its key attraction is the tower that portrays the story of Gatan and Bangan of the Igorot Legend.

Among the main attractions at the stone kingdom is a tower that depicts the fantasy story of Gatan and Bangan, an Igorot man and woman who survived the great holocaust, a fertility stone tower, and a Kabunyan (Igorot God) tower.

4. TAM-AWAN VILLAGE

Situated in Pinsao Proper, Tamawan Village is the place to go in Baguio if you don’t have the luxury of time or resources to trek to the remote villages of the Cordillera.  This place was founded by Chanum Foundation Inc. sometime in 1998 as sort of a living museum where visitors can witness and experience a place reminiscent of a traditional Cordillera village.  Here, you’ll find around 7 Ifugao huts (namely, Bangaan Hut, Dukligan Hut, Anaba Hut, Nagor Hut, Batad Hut, and Kinakin Hut)  and 2 Kalinga houses from Bugnay and Luccong, made of indigenous materials such as cogon and pinewood. Tourists can also stay in one of these houses for ₱500 ($10) per person.

If you are an art lover, you’ll be amazed at the interesting local art pieces on display and for sale here.  Tamawan Village has become a haven for workshops and exhibits to foster deeper understanding of the Cordillera heritage.

5. BENCAB MUSEUM – BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

Bencab Museum is owned by National Artist for Visual Arts – Benedicto Reyes Cabrera, a painter and print maker, who is dubbed as a master of contemporary Philippine arts. Bencab Museum, another must-see tourist attraction in Baguio, is situated in Asin Road with a scenic view of the pine forest, garden, farm, and the surrounding mountains. This contemporary museum houses a collection of his works, and other Filipino contemporary artists. Here, you’ll also find varied indigenous crafts, sculptures, and arts of the Cordilleras. My friend said it’s not as big or jaw-dropping as the Pinto Art Museum, so if you’ve already been there, don’t expect much.

Despite being born in Manila, Benedicto Cabrera has long been fascinated by Baguio and the Cordilleras, where he chose to live and nurture his artistic career. As per the official website of Bencab Museum, this place is committed to the promotion of the arts, and the preservation, conservation, and protection of the environment and the heritage of the Cordillera Region.

Below the museum, you will also find an artsy café, Café Isabel where you can enjoy some drinks and meals.  Take note that outside drinks and food aren’t allowed in the museum premises

6. IFUGAO WOOD CARVER’S VILLAGE

• Entrance Fee: FREE
• Location: Asin Road, Baguio, Benguet
• How to get to Ifugao Carver’s Village: Make your way to the jeepney terminal in Kayang Street  near Baguio City Hall. Ride the jeepney bound for Asin Road. Fare is ₱25 ($0.45).

While you’re in Asin Road, do drop by at the Ifugao Wood Carver’s Village. A 3 km stretch of road along KM 5 oozing with woodcarver shops. Based on anecdotes, the first woodcarvers who settled and made this place known as Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village were the late village chief Reynaldo Lopez-Nauyac and his son Wigan Warren. Both of them are originally from Hapao, Hungduan in Ifugao. So, back in the 70’s and 80’s, woodcarvers from Hapao eventually started transferring to Baguio when they heard that they can earn a living doing woodcarving.  Back then, many tourists from the US Naval base and Japan ordered 6-foot wood carvings of different designs – Buddha, American Indian, warriors, deer hunters, etc. Today, woodcarvers have shifted to furniture making due to the rising condominiums in Baguio.

If you’re looking for bulol (Ifugao rice god), pasiking bag, and other Baguio souvenirs made from wood, bamboo, and rattan, this is the place to be.

7. BURNHAM PARK – BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

BURNHAM PARK GUIDED TOUR: BOOK HERE

My friend once told me, if you get lost in Baguio, just go back to Burnham Park and you’ll find your way again. Indeed, she’s right. Baguio has always been special to me, as it is my first solo travel destination over a decade ago.  Whenever I feel like getting lost, I travel to Baguio and stroll along Session Road and go people watching in Burnham Park. It may be crowded and chaotic most of the times, especially during weekends and public holidays, but I don’t know why I still feel at peace when I see its timeless beauty.

Burnham Park is situated at the heart of downtown Baguio, fringed by hotels, restaurants, and shops.  It’s an ideal place for a leisurely walk due to its paved walkway. This sprawling park was the brainchild of the eponymous Daniel Burnham, who designed the park when Baguio was first developed as a retreat for the US military due to its cold weather.   You can actually find his statue at the park’s main entrance, enveloped by a rose garden.

The park features a man-made lagoon surrounded by tropical flowers, where visitors enjoy riding and rowing the swan boats.  Also, inside the confines of Burnham Park is Melvin Jones Grand Stadium, fronting the soccer field.  This place is often used as venue for concerts, parades,  political rally, and Panagbenga Festival, Baguio’s biggest festivity.

8. ILILIKHA ARTISTS VILLAGE

• How to get to Ililikha Artists Village: Make your way to Session Road. It’s about a 5 minute walk from there. Make a turn to Assumption Road.

Another creation of  Kidlat Tahimik (Eric de Guia), a National Artist for Cinema is Ililikha Artist Village. Situated in Assuption Road. It’s also a restaurant, just like Oh My Gulay café. It’s a good place for photo op, but it’s reserved for customers only. So, please, order food here if you want to take photos. Ililikha Artist Village is made of assorted materials, crafted by many Ifugao artists and wood carvers.

9. OH MY GULAY – BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

Session Road is divided into 2 areas: Lower Session Road and Upper Session Road . The Lower area is the business hub of Baguio city, fringed with banks, hotels, restaurants, shops, bakeries, and Art Deco buildings. It runs eastward from Magsaysay Street near Malcolm Square through Baguio Cathedral and Governor Pack Road. Meanwhile, the Upper area runs from the Post Office Loop and SM Baguio to Baguio Country Club, Camp John Hay, PMA, and Itogon’s mine areas.

11. SM BAGUIO

I don’t usually include shopping malls on places to visit, but SM Baguio has the Sky Terrace that offers one of the best sunset views in Baguio.  SM Baguio is also the first SM Supermall that doesn’t use an air-conditioning system upon its completion.

12. SKY RANCH BAGUIO

Located just beside SM Baguio is Sky Ranch Baguio, an amusement park that offers carnival games and thrilling rides such as Super Vikings, Sky Cruiser, Red Barron, Flying Bus, etc. You can book tickets in advance below to skip the lines.

13. baguio street arts (baguio murals).

Baguio is home to massive, dramatic painted murals showcasing the people and culture of the Cordillera region. The famous ones are part of Project Hila-Bana Mural, mostly created by Venazir Martinez, a young Filipina visial artist who believes in the power of street art as an additional learning tool for the local culture bearers. You can find one of the Project Hila-Bana Mural at PNR Compound where jeepneys are parked. It’s just across the Victory Bus Terminal in Baguio.

You can also find Baguio murals at the façade of Tam-awan Village, Magsaysay Avenue, and inside  UP Baguio.

This historic house is inspired my American colonial architecture. It was named after General Franklin Bell who converted Camp John Hay into a military resort.  This modest building served as the residence of the Commanding General of the Philippines.

The Bell House is embraced by a garden, a pine forest, and the Bell Amphitheater, a beautifully manicured garden with concentric circles as steps.  Interestingly, these steps was designed using indigenous Ifugao terracing technology.

Don’t miss the totem pole with the heads of the figures of Admiral George Dewey, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Secretary John Milton Hay, William Cameron Forbes, President Theodore Roosevelt, General Franklin Bell, Lieutenant Colonel L.W.V Kennon, Mayor E.J Halsema, General Douglas MacArthur, and Major Angelito Hernandez, the men from Camp John Hay who shaped Baguio. This fascinating history lesson totem pole was created by Ernesto Dul-ang, it’s right before the entrance to the Bell Amphitheater.

15. CEMETERY OF NEGATIVISM

While you are in Camp John Hay, don’t miss the Cemetery of Negativism or the Lost Cemetery.  It’s a unique kind of cemetery as no dead person is buried here, instead, it’s meant to remind people to bury their negative traits.  It was established by the former commanding general John Hightower sometime in 1980. The cemetery is not really eerie, it is beautifully surrounded by towering pine trees and just walking distance to the age-old Bell House.

One of the reminders engraved on the stone marker here is:

“Negativism is man’s greatest self-imposed infliction, his most limiting factor, his heaviest factor.”

16. CAMP JOHN HAY – BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS

• How to get to Camp John Jay: Ride the jeep bound for Scout Barrio, Loakan, or Kias-PMA, fare is roughly ₱13 ($0.23).  Their jeepney terminal is situated at the east side of Burnham Park across Tiong-San Department Store, Harrison Road. Best to ride a taxi though, as it is more convenient. I paid less than ₱100 ($1.80) to get there by cab.

Camp John Hay is synonymous to Baguio and one of the best tourist spot in the pine city.  This place is surrounded by pine trees and serves as a forest watershed reservation. It was established by the Americans as a military reservation on a site owned by Ibaloi leader Mateo Cariño. During the World War II, the Japanese warplanes bombed the gates of Camp John Hay.  Later on, it became the headquarters of General Tomoyuki Yamashita during the Japanese occupation.  It is here where Yamashita surrendered. After the devastating war, Camp John Hay was transformed into an airbase by the American forces, until it was returned to the Philippines. Today, Camp John Hay is undoubtedly one of the most scenic tourist spots in Baguio.

17. LAPERAL WHITE HOUSE

• How to get to Laperal House: Take a jeepney bound for Mines View Park at the terminal in Gov Pack Road.   The jeep will pass through Teacher’s Camp, Laperal Whitehouse, Pink Sister’s Convent, Botanical Garden, The Mansion, Wright Park, Good Shepherd, and Mines View Park. Fare is approximately ₱13 ($0.23) and travel time is about 10 minutes.  Alternatively, you can take a taxi from downtown Baguio for around ₱70 ($1.26).

The longstanding Laperal House is believed to be a haunted house, that is why is it usually featured on popular TV shows.  Constructed in the 1930’s by Roberto Laperal, it is built of narra and yakal wood and exhibits a Victorian architectural flair.   It used to be a vacation house of the Laperal family until it was occupied by the Japanese soldiers during the World War II and used as a barracks. It is alleged that the warriors tortured many spies and raped many women here, leading to the rumors of the ghost sightings, who are purportedly the victims

18. BAGUIO BOTANICAL GARDEN

• How to get to Baguio Botanical Garden: Take a jeepney bound for Mines View Park at the terminal in Gov.Pack Road.  The jeep will pass through Teacher’s Camp, Laperal Whitehouse, Pink Sister’s Convent, Botanical Garden, The Mansion, Wright Park, Good Shepherd, and Mines View Park. Fare is approximately ₱10 ($0.20) and travel time is about 10 minutes.

A classic tourist spot in Baguio City is the Botanical Garden, also called Centennial Park.  At the entrance, you’ll be welcomed  by the amazing bronze sculpture featuring the Cordillera indigenous people, the Chinese, the Japanese, and the Americans working together.  This masterpiece was crafted by Ben-hur Villanueva, a Filipino Artist.  There’s not much to do here, but it offers a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of Baguio City.  As the name suggests, this place is sprinkled by plants and surrounded by pine trees.  It also houses an Art Gallery and souvenirs stalls.

19. WRIGHT PARK AND THE MANSION

• Entrance Fee : FREE
• Horseback Riding: ₱ 300 ($5.39) per hour or ₱200 ($3.60) per 30 minutes
• How to get to Wright Park and The Mansion: Take a jeepney bound for Mines View Park at Governor Pack Road.  The jeep will pass through Teacher’s Camp, Laperal Whitehouse, Pink Sister’s Convent, Botanical Garden, The Mansion, Wright Park, Good Shepherd, and Mines View Park. Fare is approximately ₱13 ($0.23) and travel time is about 10 minutes.  Alternatively, you can take a taxi from downtown Baguio for around ₱100 ($1.80).

Wright Park is known for its horse-back riding for beginners, it’s an age-old tourist spot in Baguio.  Here, you’ll find stables full of colorful horses taken care by the “Pony Boys”, horse owners.   You can try riding one for beginners for ₱300 ($5.39) per hour or ₱200 ($3.60) per 30 minutes. This park is clad by pine trees and plants, don’t miss the canal where the water reflects the pine trees.

Right across Wright Park is The Mansion.  This massive summer place for The President sits beautifully in a well-manicured lawn.  Going inside is no longer allowed, but can take souvenir photos outside.

20.MINES VIEW PARK

• Entrance Fee:

Several activities, souvenir shops, and silver stores have sprung up here, including the popular photo op with the St. Bernard dogs and colorful horses. Only accredited dogs of the members of the Mines View St. Bernard Dog Association are allowed to ensure the safety of dogs and visitors. You can also rent a traditional Cordillera outfit like headdress, bahag , vest, and spear and have your photo taken with Itogon mountains as backdrop

21.GOOD SHEPHERD BAGUIO

• How to get to Good Shepherd Baguio: Ride a Baguio – Plaza – Mines View jeepney at  Gov.Pack Road. Fare is about ₱13 ($0.23) and travel time is about 10 minutes.  Alternatively, you can take a taxi from downtown Baguio for around ₱100 ($1.80).

After a visit to Mines View Park, make time for Good shepherd Baguio nearby.   This convent is pretty popular for its delicious food products especially the best-selling Good Shepherd ube jam.   The production of this sought-after ube jam started sometime in 1976   when Sister Fidelas Atienza, as suggested by a friend, started making ube halaya similar to that of Tantamco’s, the original maker of ube halaya in Baguio.  As time goes by, she perfected it and student workers started helping stir the ube. Nowadays, they are said to use machines for easier processing, but the ube jam undoubtedly remains mouth-watering, and one of the best souvenirs from Baguio.

22.BAGUIO FOOD TRIP

Don’t miss trying out the artsy local restaurants while you are here, it’s definitely one of the top things to do in Baguio! It may not be known as a food haven like Pampanga or Cebu, etc., but since it’s a melting pot of cultures, you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you go on a food trip.  I’ll create a separate blogpost, probably in the future, but to give you an idea, some of the best known restaurants here includes: Good Taste,  Café by the Ruins, Maeve Café at Ilikha Artist Village, The Farmer’s Daughter, Grumpy Joe, Foggy Mountain Cookhouse, among others.

23.BELL CHURCH 

• Opening Hours: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM
• How to get there: Ride the jeepney bound for La Trinidad at the jeepney terminal.  Get off at the jumping off point to the Bell Church, near the border of Baguio City and La Trinidad. If you are headed to Stabosa Colorful House (Valley of Colors) or to La Trinidad Baguio, the jeep that you’ll take will pass by the Bell Church.  Thus, you can drop by at this distinctly Chinese Buddhist temple on your way there or on your way back to Baguio city.

The Bell Church is an old temple established in 1960 by the Chinese immigrants from Guangzhou (formerly Canton, China) headed by Ng Pee. It is situated in Brgy.Balili La Trinidad, Benguet, near the border of Baguio City.

I remember visiting Baguio over a decade ago, and I told myself I wanted to see something different, so I went to the Bell Church. When I first set foot on its ground, I feel like being transported to a different place. Everywhere I look it’s distinctly Chinese, the ornate pailou, the towering pagoda, the dragons, and the images of Buddhas and saints.

  24. STOBOSA COLORFUL HOUSES (Colors of Stobosa)

  When you visit Baguio and Benguet, you’ll most likely notice the house-fringed hills that clad the city.  A rising tourist destination is Stobosa, composed of 3 sitios: Stonehill, Botiw-tiw, and Sadjap in Brgy.Balili, La Trinidad. The site is now referred to as the Colors of Stobosa, known for its colorful houses, which is somehow inspired by the Favelas of Rio de Janiero in Brazil.  The solar artist Jordan Mang-osan led a team of Tam-Awan Vilage artists, including Ged Alangui, Jenny Lorenzo, and Clinton Aniversaryo with the help of the DOT Cordillera Region and Davis Paint to revitalize the area as part of the RevBloom (revitalize and bloom) campaign.  They painted almost all the houses (except for the original blue house) here as if it is one big mural as homage to what they believe as the area of origin of mountains of sunflowers and limestone rock formations.  The residents here hoped that through this, their livelihood will be boosted.

25. LA TRINIDAD STRAWBERRY FARM

• Strawberry Picking : ₱700 ($12.51) per kilo
• How to get to La Trinidad Strawberry Farm : Make your way to Shuntag Road in front of Baguio City Hall. Ride the jeepney en route to La Trinidad and tell the driver to drop you off at La Trinidad Strawberry Farm. Fare is ₱30 ($0.54) per person. Alternatively, you may take a cab from Baguio City to La Trinidad Strawberry Farm for roughly ₱160 ($2.88) – ₱200 ($3.60), good for 3-4 persons.

Baguio is the first place in the Philippines known for strawberries that are grown in Benguet.  Strawberry picking is one of the top things to do when in Baguio and Benguet.  The La Trinidad Strawberry Farm is situated in Brgy.Betag, a high altitude place, best for growing strawberries. It is actually owned by the Benguet State University who leases the land to farmers for strawberry cultivation.  Lettuce and other vegetables are also grown here.  You can go strawberry picking for ₱500 ($10) per kilo.

The best months to for strawberry picking in Benguet are November to February when strawberries are ripe for picking.  March is also a good time to visit since it’s the month when the locals celebrate the Strawberry Festival.

Also, you can buy strawberry product souvenirs here like Strawberry wines and jams, and other Baguio souvenirs.

26. PANAGBENGA FESTIVAL

The Panagbenga Festival is where you’ll witness street parades with participants clad in their native costumes or flower costumes. Don’t miss the highlight of the festivity which is the Panagbenga float parade when massive floats flaunt the streets of Baguio.

27. NORTHERN BLOSSOM FLOWER FARM

If you have the luxury of time, you can make a side trip to Northern Blossom Park from Baguio, which is situated in Brgy. Sayangan in Atok, Benguet.  This place is peppered with colorful flowers rarely seen in most parts of the Philippines.  The view of the surrounding massif here will make you feel alive and appreciate nature more.

28. mt. ulap.

If you’re the adventurous type you can go climb Mt.Ulap, a perfect day hike from Baguio. It’s about 1 hour away from downtown Baguio by public jeepney to Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet. It is dubbed as a beginner’s hike with 3/10 difficulty level. However, according to beginner hikers who have tried climbing this beauty, it’s not an easy feat. It may take 4-11 hours to hike Mt. Ulap depending on your endurance. You can climb Mt.Ulap DIY but you can also join a group hike though the link below.

29.mt. pulag.

Mt. Pulag National Park is a sacred mountain inhabited by different indigenous groups such as the Ibalois, Ifugaos, Karao, Kankana-eys, and Kalayunga. It is the highest mountain in Luzon Philippines, and the 3 rd highest in the country. It is under 2 administrative jurisdiction: Cordillera and Cagayan.

Mt. Pulag is pretty popular for its “Sea of Clouds”, and is dubbed as the “Playground of the Gods”.  It is pretty scenic because this mountain features vast grasslands, mossy forest, pine forest, and its slopes are covered by dwarf bamboos.

There are 4 major trails to Mt. Pulag summit: Ambangeg, Akiki, Tawangan, and Ambaguio (via Nueva Vizcaya). If you’re a beginner, Ambangeg is the recommended trail.

Other baguio tourist spots, 32.ifugao woodcarver’s village.

While tourists usually know Asin Road for Bencab Museum, sculpture lovers flock here for the Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village, also called Itogon Woodcarver’s Village.  Based on anecdotes, the history of Ifugao woodcarving traces its roots in the village of Hapao in Hungduan. But after the World War II, due to the increasing demands of foreign tourists to take home local handicrafts, five migrants from Hungduan and Banaue migrated here and brought some Ifugao woodcarvers. Thus, the Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village was born.  Most of the woodcarver’s shops are concentrated along Asin Road. Here, you can buy high quality Ifugao sculptures, wood craft, and other local handcrafted products.  The woodcarver’s can also made to order goods.

Interestingly, they also celebrate the Pa-ot Festival in Asin Road to celebrate the Ifugao woodcarvers’ skills in creating, as well as honor the old Asin Munpa-ot (carvers).  The residents here dance the streets during the festivity wearing their crafts, like spears, shields, and carved fertility statues.

33. MARY KNOLL ECOLOGICAL SANCTUARY

• Entrance Fee: ₱75 ($1.35)
• Open Hours: Daily 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
• Location: #25 North Santo Tomas Road, Baguio, Benguet
• How to get there: Make your way to Igorot Park and ride a jeepney with Campo Sioco sign. Tell the driver you drop you off at Mary Knoll Ecological Sanctuary. Fare is roughly ₱13 ($0.26). Alternatively, you can also take a taxi, far is roughly ₱65 ($1.17) to ₱80 ($1.44), and travel time is approximately 10 minutes.

This timeless green sanctuary in Baguio aims to restore and preserve nature. A leisurely walk here will take you the 14 Stations of the Cosmic Journey, which aims to tell the story of how the universe was created.

34.UNCLE SAM’S AGRI-TOURISM PARK

This new Baguio tourist attraction is located between the borders of Baguio and Tuba, Benguet. It is oozing with stone sculptures, artworks, and greenery.

• How to get to Uncle Sam’s Farm Baguio : Head to the jeepney terminal at Kayang, near Julie’s Bakeshop and Panadero. Ride the jeepney with a signage KM6 Asin Road, Baguio City “Cinco”. Tell the driver to drop you at the first checkpoint. Uncle Sam’s Farm is about 10 minute walk from the highway.

35.PINE TREES OF THE WORLD PARK

This place was initially planned to be planted with different varieties of pine trees, hence the name “Pine Trees of the World Park”.  It’s not as famous as the Camp John Hay Eco-Trail, but it is also home to towering pines trees. And this is pretty easy to reach as it is near UP Baguio and Museo Kordilyera.

36. BAGUIO MUSEUM

  The charming Baguio Museum’s architecture is inspired by the traditional Ifugao house is another famed Baguio tourist attraction. It was built in 1975 and situated at the corner of Governor Pack Road and Harrison Road.  Baguio Museum houses a variety of artifacts originating from the 6 provinces of the Cordilleras (Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga, Ifugao, and Mountain Province) as well as Ifugao artworks and woodcarvings and exhibits. Ernesto Dul-ang is Baguio Museum’s resident wood carver, some of his great works include that can be found here are “The Surrender of General Tomoyuki Yamashita”, the totem pole of the Mayors who assisted in the development of the Baguio Museum, and the dioramas at the entrance of the Museum.

The famed pink Romanesque revival-inspired church with twin spires and belfry is one of the top Baguio tourist spots.  Baguio Cathedral  stands proudly on Mount Mary Hill, formerly called Kampo.  This biggest church in the city is dedicated to Our Lady of the Atonement. It survived the bombing back in 1945 and served as an evacuation center during that time, thereby saving many lives.

39.UKAY-UKAY

• Open Hours: Depends on each shop, but usually they’re open until 8:00 PM only.
• Location: Along Session Road and Harrison Road
• Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Session Road, Burnham Park, Baguio Cathedral, Oh My Gulay

One of the top things to do in Baguio to to go to ukay-ukay or wagwagan. Many thrift shops mushroomed over the years around and near its central business district, offering cheap clothes, jackets, shoes, toys, bags, etc. My go to ukay-ukay shops in Baguio are located at the corner of F.Calderon along Session Road . This place is quite clean compared to other shops, but the apparels are quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay, perhaps because of its popularity.

Bayanihan along Shanum Street is also a pretty famous  ukay-ukay haven. Most of the products here are upscale, so expect the price to be quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay prices.

Another great place to shop for ukay-ukay are the shops around U-need Supermart along San Perfecto Street corner Session Road , it’s fronting Malcolm Square

40. BAGUIO NIGHT MARKET

• Open Hours: 09:00 PM to 2:00 AM
• Location: Harrison Road, Benguet
• Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Burnham Park, Baguio Cathedral, Oh My Gulay

About 1,081 stalls open from 9:00 PM to 02:00 AM along Harrison Street, it is popularly known as Baguio Night Market and a key tourist attraction in Baguio City. It is a popular tourist attraction in the city where vendors sell old and new apparels, goods, decors, and food at reasonable prices. It was founded about a decade ago as a means for the traders who don’t have stalls to earn a living. But recently, officials of the city are thinking of relocating it, because of the heavy traffic it causes.

41. BRIDAL VEILS FALLS

There’s a waterfall in Baguio? Yes. It’s found along Kennon Road, so if you’re using a private vehicle, you might want to drop by the Bridal Veils Falls.  It’s a few steps away from the highway via a metal  hanging bridge.  The waterfalls is quite tall, and makes for a great photo op.

1.From Manila, take a bus bound for Baguio. Victory Liner has buses to Baguio from Cubao and Pasay. Alternatively, you may also take Genesis Bus or Joy Bus to Baguio. Regular Aircon Express bus fare from Baguio to Cubao is roughly ₱626 ($11.14), while from Pasay to Baguio bus fare is around ₱640 ($11.39). See Victory Liner Bus fare below.

*If you are traveling on a Friday night or over the weekend via Victory Liner, make sure you buy your ticket in advance as the line can get pretty long.  It took us 2.5 hours as chance passenger to ride the bus to Baguio. Otherwise, go to the other bus companies like Genesis and Joy Bus, they also have terminals in Cubao and Pasay.

If you are traveling in group, you may want to consider renting a van to Baguio from Manila, Tagaytay, La Union, Baguio, and more.

If you want a hassle-free tour of Baguio, there are several  DOT-accredited tour operators in Baguio. It is best to book a tour with them. If your time is limited,  you can also book a day tour from Manila to Baguio. SEE THE TOURS ABOVE THIS BLOG UNDER BAGUIO TRIP ESSENTIALS.

BAGUIO BY TAXI

Touring by taxi in Baguio is also a good option,  that’s because taxi drivers in Baguio are generally honest, they would use the meter and give you the exact exchange.  The current flag down rate is roughly ₱40 ($0.72) for the first 500 meters, with ₱2 ($0.040) per 100 meter increments thereafter.  Baguio taxi tour rate depends on how many hours you plan to tour Baguio.  Usual rate per day now for hiring a taxi in Baguio for 1 day is ₱3,500 ($62.94) to ₱4,000 ($71.93)  that’s good for 3-4 people and tour is from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

BAGUIO BY JEEPNEY

It is possible to get around in Baguio by jeepney. The starting rate for the classic jeepney is ₱13 ($0.23).  This is good if you want to do a DIY Baguio Travel, but make sure you know the Baguio jeepney routes (which is quite confusing) to avoid getting lost.  There’s also the airconditioned jeep now in Baguio but I haven’t tries riding it yet.

You can also hire a jeepney in Baguio to see some of the new Baguio tourist spots, as well as the classic destinations if you are a large group, say group of 10 or more. There’s a jeepney terminal just outside Victory Liner, you may ask the drivers for per day rate.

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO

Baguio is peppered with hotels for all types of budget. I recommend staying near Burnham Park or Session Road as it is near to most establishments.  But many of the newer hotels in Baguio are located outside the downtown area. Anyway, it’s easy to get to the city center via taxi or Grab, fare here is pretty cheap. And also, most taxi drivers in Baguio are honest. They will really give you an exact change.

Stayed in Sotogrande Hotel last time. This is a new hotel. Room has enough space to move around. Their breakfast buffet is pretty generous. They have an in-house restaurant, and I like their crispy pata, pizza and pasta. For dessert, try their sansrival cake.

HOW TO GET AROUND BAGUIO

Getting around Baguio is relatively easy, and there are several transportation options available for visitors:

Mirador Heritage and Eco Park

Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is a five hectares multi-terrace landscaped park located at Mirador Hill in Baguio City. It offers visitors a panoramic view of Baguio City and its alluring surroundings. The attractions inside the Mirador Heritage and Eco Park are Loyola rock gardens, Archangels garden, Arashiyama bamboo grove, Manresa rock gardens, Our Lady of Montserrat rock gardens, Our Lady of Aranzazu rock gardens, Garden of the Immaculate Concepcion, Ifugao houses, Beatitudes arches and garden, basketball court, forest bathing area, pandemic healing memorial, prayer houses, Jesus Apostles Dap-ayan, La Storta gardens, Blue moon gate, Mirador Peace Memorial, Cafe Iñigo, Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, Kapilya Nina Jesus at Maria, Cordillera heritage garden, Marian Salubong view deck and Christ the Redeemer.

According to its history, Mirador Heritage and Eco Park was once a branch of the Manila Observatory in Baguio in 1901. A few years later, it became a villa house where Jesuits of the Ateneo de Manila took a break during the summer season. As the years passed by, it became a house of studies for the Jesuits of the Far East Province when the communists deported the Jesuits in China. Then in the year 1967, the house was opened for retreats and for gathering of Church groups. Presently, Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Baguio City with the vision of preserving the city heritage and its natural beauty.

One of the main attraction in Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is the Mirador Hill Peace Memorial. According to its history, it was inaugurated on December 14, 2020 during the year when the world remembered the 75th anniversary of the explosion of the atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima on August 6 and of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Year 1945 was also an eventful year for Baguio and the Philippines. On September 2, 1945 General Tomoyuki Yamashita was captured at Kiangan, then transported to Baguio on the following day for the signing of the instrument of surrender. By December 1945, Baguio and the rest of the Philippines were in the process of reconstruction and healing from war. A reminder of that war, now put to peaceful and even spiritual use is a pair of bells, each one half of an unexploded and neutralized American bomb dropped on Mirador Hill in 1945. One of the bells still hangs along the corridor, but one, the front end of the bomb where the detonator would be, is now hanging in Mirador’s Peace Memorial. It hangs under a Tori gate inspired mount which faces west toward the lowland and Lingayen where USAFFE troops landed in 1945.

Another attraction in Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is the Mirador’s Arashiyama Bamboo Grove garden which is a gift of Caesar and Melissa Wongchuking Family. It was named after Kyoto’s top sight and selfie walk, near the Tenryu-ji Temple, Mirador’s path through its heritage and eco park passes through rows of tall bamboo of the species Phyllostachys edulis “Heterocycla” that grows every now and then “tortoise shell bamboo”. It is called “tortoise” because the lower part of the bamboo from the root to about 60 centimeters can display the habit of shortened internodes alternately facing each other so that the internodes resemble a tortoise shell. It is called “Kikko” in Japanese meaning “tortoise” and is related to the edible Moso bamboo.

Mirador Jesuit Villa’s (MJV) gardeners sustainably harvest tortoise shells as part of its on-going maintenance of the bamboo grove to prevent it from becoming overgrown and unhealthy. Suitable canes are then cleaned, scraped, carved and ornamented while still fresh, then sun-dried for a week or more until the canes harden as moisture evaporates. These are then oil-stained and finished by Mirador Jesuit Villa staff. The tortoise shell staff are available for those who wish to use one while walking the trail of Mirador Heritage and Eco Park and to bring back as a souvenir of a place highlighted by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as one of a number of beautiful destinations in Baguio City. My trip to Mirador Heritage and Eco Park

Mirador Heritage and Eco Park was not included in my itinerary during my Baguio tour but since I found out that it is roughly four kilometers away from the Baguio City proper and I have an ample time on the weekend I decided to go to this park. As soon as I arrived on the wide parking space, I walked to the right side towards the registration area. At the registration area I can see many tourists lining up to pay for the entrance fee. Then as I wait for my turn, I can see a map of the whole park as well as the many attractions inside.

When I started exploring the place, I easily noticed that the park is well maintained and there’s a lot of signages for different sections which is a good sign for visitors in order to not get lost in the park. Just right after the entrance area, at the left side I walk on the Mirador Arashiyama Bamboo Grove trail which is very similar to those found in St. Francis Xavier Seminary bamboo sanctuary. From here, I stopped for a few minutes to take pictures of the surroundings. Then it came to my mind that when I was a little kid one of my dreams is to visit Japan because of the two popular Anime named Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. One of the renowned scenes from Samurai X is the combat between two samurai in the middle of a bamboo forest. Anyway, it is lively being surrounded by bamboo trees just like in Kyoto Japan and from my perspective this is a perfect place for relaxation and reflection.

Then as I continue to roam around, I feel that the weather here is not too cold but I can feel a cool breeze around. After a few minutes, I reached the colorful Manresa Rock Garden and for some instance, I have a good view of the hills and valleys of Baguio City. Also to my surprise, I can see the seating areas around the park and for this reason I take a quick rest. Aftward, I continue going up the trail and three minutes later I have a nice overlooking view of the surroundings. Then I said to myself that this eco park is a great place to reconnect with God through his wonderful creation.

As I climb higher, I find the Jesuit Villa and Retreat House and along the trail I can see several statues of Catholic saints on top of the rock formation. Also, I was welcomed by lush greenery on both sides which was so relaxing and a few moments later I saw an Ifugao house where tourist can take pictures. In my opinion, the retreat house provides visitors a placid sanctuary for divine nourishment.

Then as I continued trekking uphill, I noticed that the park has so many Instagrammable spots where tourists can enjoy the breathtaking view and the peaceful ambiance. Subsequently, I am very near the famous Mirador Hill Peace Memorial so I climb faster and afterward I can see lot of couples and families lining up just to get a photo with the famous Japanese Torii gate. It is so windy there but the weather is so good and the view is exceptional. I can see the western section of Baguio City as well as the Lingayen Gulf.

To my way of thinking, this is the place where the awe of nature and the works of mortal hands meet in harmony. No wonder it’s one of the most photographed spots in Mirador Heritage and Eco Park. Then as I walk further to the right side, I can see an exit gate going to the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto. But before I went to the Catholic shrine, I took a break from all the walking and have snack at the Cafe Iñigo which is located at the top of the Mirador Heritage and Eco Park. The cafe has a great view of the city as it offers alfresco dining. 

After that, I walk towards the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto and to the left side I can see many visitors and devout Catholic light candles and offer flowers. To the right side, I found out that there’s a small chapel just beside the grotto where tourist can have a silent prayer. Without a doubt, the spiritual ambiance makes it a serene and reflective spot. Then after staying for ten minutes, I descend the 252-step stairway. Overall, my trip to Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is so worth it as I experience a Japan vibe in Baguio City. Every route goes to a different picture-taking spot and its an ideal place to unwind and exercise.

How to Go to Mirador Heritage and Eco Park

• From Baguio City proper, ride a jeep at Kayang Street near the city market and tell the driver to alight you near the Dominican-Mirador Barangay Hall. The approximate travel time is twelve minutes and the jeepney fare is eleven pesos. 
• From Dominican-Mirador Barangay Hall, walk your way towards the Mirador Heritage and Eco Park.

By private car

• Open your Waze app or Google Maps on your cellphone and pin Mirador Heritage and Eco Park. 
• From Burnham Park, take the Queen of Peace Road and Dominican Hill Road and later park your car at the designated parking area near the Mirador Heritage and Eco Park.

Reminders and Tips:

• The entrance fee in Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is 100 pesos per head. Note: senior citizen have a discounted entrance fee and children 12 years old and below is free of charge.
• Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is open daily to the public from 6 am in the morning up to 6 pm.
• Register with the guard before you follow the trail. Always follow the signs, and stay on designated trails within the park. Also, watch your step and if possible use walking sticks when you explore the rock gardens. Note: Mirador is not liable for any injury.
• Bringing pets are not allowed in the eco park.
• Mirador Heritage and Eco Park is a non smoking zone.
• Please observe proper decorum and solemnity of this sacred site by praying for peace and by keeping the place clean. Note: the ringing of the bell is reserved only for authorized persons on designated dates of the year.
• Throw your trash in the proper places and pick up any trash you find. 
• Do not eat in the park because this is a place for reverent prayer. Let God’s beauty feed you and the hunger of your heart.
• Bringing your own food is strictly prohibited inside the park. However you can bring your water and buy snacks, pastries and specialty drinks at Cafe Iñigo located at the top of the park.
• Wear comfortable hiking shoes because the walkways are rocky and a lot of uphill and downhill climb in the whole park.
• Your donation is for the maintenance of Mirador Heritage and Eco Park. Thanks for your generosity.
• There are designated restrooms and parking areas in the eco park. Please turn off engine while parked. Note: the parking fee is 25 pesos. 
• Check the weather forecast in Baguio City before visiting this place to have a great view.
• Last but not least, to avoid the long line of tourists waiting for their chance to take solo pictures at the Mirador Hill Peace Memorial, I suggest you go there early in the morning.

One of the prominent exhibits is BenCab's bulol collection. Bulol is an Ifugao rice god figurine carved from Narra wood. You won't miss this exhibit, as the display occupies a whole wall in the museum.

There is also the Indigo Gallery, which features the works of several renowned Filipino contemporary artists. 

Of course, the highlight of the museum is the gallery of BenCab himself. The BenCab Gallery houses the National Artist's masterpieces, which mostly feature Sabel, his best-known muse.  

Sabel was a real scavenger woman whom BenCab saw and photographed in 1965. She has since been the subject of several of BenCab's paintings.

Aside from the galleries, BenCab Museum also has a restaurant. Cafe Sabel serves the Cabrera family recipes and uses ingredients that are grown in the museum's garden. 

If you want to explore to learn more about the region's indigenous art forms, go on a Cordillera heritage tour and start with Tam-Awan Village. 

Built by the Chanum Foundation in 1998, Tam-Awan Village is modeled after native Ifugao villages to give people a glimpse of the other parts of the region.

The word Tam-Awan in the local dialect means vantage point. An apt name since the Tam-Awan Village sits on a hillside with a panoramic view of the South China Sea. 

With a stunning vista and lush greenery, you'll surely enjoy exploring the several Cordillera huts scattered around Tam-Awan Village. You can also go on a quick hike to several viewing decks in the village.

If you're not too keen on hiking, check out the art galleries in Tam-Awan Village. The village also holds regular exhibitions and cultural shows from both local and visiting artists.

For a more immersive experience, join Tam-Awan village tours and register for any of their workshops in drawing, oil painting, watercolor, and wood carving.

For those who want to stay for more than a day, the village also has a café where you can taste authentic Cordilleran dishes, as well as huts for lodging.

If you're unsure of what to do in Baguio at night, drop by the Baguio Night Market. Baguio is a famous bargain shopping hotspot. If you want to put your haggling skills to the test, there is no better place than the Baguio Night Market. This bargain-hunting haven is every thrifty fashionista's dream.

From 9 PM to 2 AM, a part of Harrison Road at the northeast of Burnham Park transforms into a flea market. Here you can find everything to complete a casual look without burning a hole through your wallet, thanks to the rows of ukay-ukay stalls. 

Ukay-ukay is the local term for surplus items shipped from other countries and second-hand apparel such as clothes, bags, and footwear that are sold at bargain prices.

Baguio Night Market is overflowing with ukay-ukay. It's the best place to shop for quality second-hand jackets, boots, clothes, and accessories for a fraction of their original price.

And if you're lucky or have great thrift-shopping skills, you can score one-of-a-kind vintage finds or even items that are in mint condition. 

After shopping, grab an ear of sweet corn, noodle soup, or other street food on the northern side of the hill.

Wright Park is one of the many scenic parts of Baguio. It is a quiet promenade with blossoming flowers, a pool lined with pine trees, and a long stairway that leads visitors to a riding circle.

Wright Park is considerably smaller than Burnham Park, but it is also less crowded and more peaceful. It is located in the eastern part of Baguio and fronts the main gate of The Mansion.

Wright Park's long rectangular pond is called the "Pool of Pines," which could not be a more perfect name as the length of the lake is flanked by pine trees on both sides. 

There is also a park circle and pavilion where you can sit, relax, and listen to the swaying pine. Wright Park is an open green space, so feel free to stroll around and admire its natural beauty.

Wright Park is often called Ride Park, an understandable mistake since the park is known for its horseback-riding activity. 

Indeed, Wright Park is the perfect place for people who love horses and want to learn how to ride one. It’s a great addition to the tourist spots often included on a day trip in Baguio . Follow the long stairway at the far end of Wright Park to reach the Riding Circle.

There you'll find several horses you can hire and ride around in the vicinity. If you're traveling with kids, good news! There are friendly ponies that are perfect for children.

Rest assured, every horse has an experienced handler who will guide and watch riders at all times. If it's your first time, the driver will lead the horse and walk alongside you as you ride.

10. Spend Time at The Mansion 

Located on the eastern side of the city, it is right in front of the idyllic Wright Park. This grand palace is easily one of the most photographed landmarks in Baguio. 

Although the main gate is open to the public, visitors are only allowed in The Mansion House Museum, where tourists can check out presidential memorabilia.

Aside from exploring the museum, the only other activity you can do here is picture-taking. So don't be shy about taking tons of photographs!

The Mansion's elegant main building is inspired by the Spanish Colonial Revival design, making it an excellent backdrop for any picture. You can also snap photos in front of the ornate iron gate or by the beautifully manicured lawn.

The Baguio Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful places in Baguio and provides a much-needed tranquil space amid bustling Baguio City. In 2009, the garden was renamed Centennial Park in celebration of Baguio's 100th year as the Summer Capital of the Philippines. 

However, it is more known as the Botanical Garden.

Exploring the garden is a whole adventure on its own, as it has several sections with different attractions. As you enter the park, you will be greeted by a giant sculpture. 

This bronze masterpiece is the work of Ben Hur Villanueva, a renowned Filipino sculptor. The statue represents the of the Cordillerans, Americans, Chinese, and Japanese in building Baguio.

Filled with pine trees, the Botanical Garden has two purposes. It serves as a hideaway in the often crowded city. It also houses nurseries dedicated to propagating flora that will eventually be replanted in the parks and gardens of Baguio. 

With the abundance of trees and different plants, the Baguio Botanical Garden is truly a great place to unwind. You can explore the various sections, sit by the benches, or have a snack under the cottages.

You will find pocket gardens and pavilions dedicated to Baguio's sister cities in countries such as South Korea, Japan, China, Canada, Thailand, and the USA.

These sections are decorated with symbols that represent each city. There are also relics from the Igorot Village, such as giant statues depicting different Cordillera tribes.

Aside from the pasalubong stores around Mines View Park, do not forget to drop by the Good Shepherd Convent, which is just a stone's throw away. 

Their acclaimed peanut brittle, ube, and strawberry jam have become synonymous with Baguio pasalubong. They are also now offering baked goodies like Lengua de Gato and alfajores, homemade ice cream, and strawberry-calamansi juice.

Nuns and volunteers from the international congregation The Religious of the Good Shepherd Sisters run the convent, with profits from Good Shepherd going to charity. 

Students of the Mountain Maid Training Center and Development Inc. create the products as part of the congregation's livelihood program for poor female students from Kalinga and Bontoc.

Be prepared to either line up for at least 30 minutes as you wait to be serviced or get heartbroken when your desired product goes out of stock.

Though, you may enjoy taking photos from the convent's view deck with the Cordillera Mountains as your background.

Formally known as the Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral, the Baguio Cathedral stands atop Mount Mary Hill, or what the Ibalois call "Kampo." 

The church is known for its Neo-Gothic style, as evidenced by its twin spires and its rose-colored exterior with stained-glass windows.

During World War II, it served as an evacuation center. Baguio Cathedral is also the largest Catholic church in the city. As it is built on top of a hill, it gives visitors an awe-inspiring bird' s-eye view of Session Road and the whole of Baguio. 

The Baguio Cathedral can be reached by climbing a 104-step staircase.

If you want to cut some time and effort, the road up the hill is accessible to cars. You can also climb the escalators of Porta Vaga Shopping Mall on Session Road and exit at the top floor, as it'll lead onto the church's parking grounds.

Bell Church was founded in 1960 by Ng Pee, a Chinese immigrant from the Canton Region. 

This Chinese temple is primarily influenced by Taoist architecture, but it also features a fusion of Buddhist symbols and follows ancient Chinese methods of construction.

Upon arriving at Bell Church, an ornate arch with dragon highlights and Chinese inscriptions will greet you. In front of the temple, you will find two octagonal lotus ponds that resemble a Bagua.

In Chinese culture, it represents the concept of rebirth and immortality. As you explore the church grounds, prepared to be entranced by the soaring pagodas, dragons, and lion statues, of course, the bells that decorate Bell Church.

Bell Church's pagodas feature images of saints and the Buddha. Past the opposing dragon figures, you will find a charming koi pond where you can make a wish.

You can go to the central patio of Bell Church to witness a panoramic view of the surrounding hills. 

Baguio is a melting pot of diverse Cordilleran culture. The Baguio Museum stands as a reminder of that and the city's storied past and rich cultural and historical heritage. 

The museum was built to resemble a traditional Ifugao home. It has wood and stone, and it features a pyramid roof that has two towering concrete poles at the stair entrance.

Baguio is part of Benguet Province and the greater Cordillera Region. The main floor of the building is dedicated to the craftsmanship of the provinces of the Cordillera region: Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, and Abra. 

You will find various tribal artifacts, native jewelry, apparel, fabrics, and musical instruments encased by protective glass panels.

If you're curious about what the lives of the indigenous Cordilleran tribes look like, the miniature dioramas in the museum will give you a picture.

Aside from the exhibits, the museum has educational clippings and photographs where you can learn more about the history of Baguio and the different tribes in Cordillera.

Baguio Museum also houses models of the different huts used by tribes in ancient times. Even more fascinating is the museum's collection of burial jars and carved wooden coffins, one of which contains a real mummified body!

As you can tell by now, Baguio is full of surprises. And as if the one discussed above is not enough, this perpetually cold city has one more natural attraction that will take you by surprise.   

16 kilometers northwest of Baguio lies the hot springs of Tuba, Benguet. Known as the Asin Hot Springs, these thermal and therapeutic springs are the perfect spot for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Because of its considerable distance from the city center, Asin Hot Springs is one of the most underrated destinations in the province of Benguet. 

Although the pools are tiled, the waters that fill them are natural and come straight from the mountains. The springs are even said to have healing properties.

For instance, the hotness of the water is known to soothe muscle pains, while the sulfuric water stimulates blood circulation and moisturizes the skin. Take a dip and feel your stress wash away.

Aside from the soothing thermal water, Asin Hot Spring offers visitors scenic mountain views and lush vegetation. There are also different facilities, such as pools for adults and children-friendly ones.

To complete your Baguio city culture and countryside tour, stop by the Easter Weaving Room. Established in 1909, Easter Weaving Room is as old as Baguio itself. 

It is also one of the few places in Baguio where you can witness authentic traditional weaving techniques practiced by the natives of the Cordillera Region. 

Easter Weaving Room has a work area where you can watch weavers do their magic on the looms with multi-colored threads. 

You also get to witness the intricacy of making the exquisite Montanosa cloth, which is a colorful hand-woven cloth unique to the Cordillera Region.

Aside from watching weavers work, you can also go around and check out the Easter Weaving Room's displays. 

You can also purchase those items, as well as baskets and wood carvings.

Compared to other woven products sold around Baguio, the quality of the items made in the Easter Weaving room is superior and, most of the time, even cheaper.

18. Stop by the Ifugao Woodcarver's Village

Another great spot to buy souvenirs in Baguio is the Ifugao Woodcarver's Village. 

Stretching for 3 kilometers long along Asin Road, the Woodcarver's Village is the largest concentration of veteran and budding local woodcarvers in Baguio. 

Here traditional crafts and skills of weaving and woodcarving that span back decades are practiced and passed on to the next generations. Ifugao woodcarvers are recognized as the best among Cordillera tribes in this art form.

The village is famous for its excellent quality wood carvings. From small critical chains to towering statues of Igorot tribesmen, you will be stunned by the variety of handmade crafts in the Ifugao Woodcarvers Village.

Woodcarver's village showcases the indigenous aesthetics of the region, its natural environment, and the rich cultural heritage of the Cordillerans through wood carving.

Subjects of the carved items are mostly associated with the Cordillera, the indigenous people, and animals. They are also commonly religious icons, household items, furniture, signs, and key chains.

Buy some souvenirs and support the local woodcarving industry.

The shanty-covered hills of La Trinidad used to be an eyesore in otherwise scenic countryside. 

Inspired by the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and the Gamcheon Cultural Village of South Korea, the local government sought to transform the bleak hillside communities of La Trinidad.

Today, the houses of Stonehill, Botiw-tiw, and Sadjap (StoBoSa) have become an expansive life-sized art piece collectively called the StoBoSa Hillside Homes Artwork. 

Also known as the Colors of StoBoSa, it comprises around 200 houses over an area of 18,000 square meters. If the sheer expanse of it is not enough to wow you, the vibrant hues of this massive art piece will.

This stunning community artwork has now become a hit tourist attraction. Indeed, the Colors of StoBoSa is a magnificent menagerie of bright colors that will capture your attention and entice you to stop and take pictures.

Mirador heritage and eco-spirituality park (baguio city, benguet).

The 5-hectare, multi-tiered  and enchanting Mirador Heritage and Eco-Spirituality Park, one of the newest tourist attractions in Baguio, is located on top of the Jesuit-managed Mirador Hill, near the famed Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto. It houses one of two bamboo plantation sites in Baguio City (the other is the Baguio Bamboo Educational Demo Farm, within St. Francis Xavier Seminary in Purok Liteng, Brgy. Pacdal).

During the peak of the Covid 19 pandemic, the Jesuits managing the hill and the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto started developing the heritage and eco-park around the rest of Mirador Hill and the park was opened in late November 2020.  It has different sections and attractions and has a commanding panoramic view of the hills and valleys of the western section of Baguio City.

The park has several hiking trails that lead to different areas, with lots of signages, many Instagrammable spots and several benches and gazebos along the trail where you could sit down whenever you get too tired from walking.  The walkways are paved, not with concrete, but with carefully cut blocks of rock and furnished with metal handrails on the more difficult ascents.

Some parts of the park are based on known tourist destinations in Kyoto , Japan , including the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove (its namesake is near the Tenryu-ji Temple) and the iconic red Torii Gate at the Mirador Peace Memorial (inaugurated on December 14, 2020).

The former, near the park entrance, is a gift of Caesar and Melissa Wongchuking Family. This dense bamboo forest was laid out amidst the landscaped rock gardens, providing a good shade from the piercing heat of the late morning and afternoon sun.

Here, you pass through rows of tortoise shell bamboo ( Phyllostachys edulis “Heterocycla”), so called  because the lower part of the bamboo, from the root to about 60 centimeters, can display the habit of shortened internodes, alternately facing each other, so that the internodes resemble a tortoise shell. In Japan, it is called kikko (Japanese word meaning “tortoise”) and is related to the edible Moso bamboo.

The latter has a hanging bell made from an unexploded and neutralized front end of a World War II bomb.  The gate faces west toward the lowland and Lingayen Gulf , in nearby Pangasinan  province, where American troops landed in 1945. On a clear day it is even possible to see as far as the gulf.

Here, you will encounter lots of couples and families lining up just to get a photo with the famous Japanese Torii gate. Walking further to the right side, you can see an exit gate going to the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto.

• La Storta Gardens – named after the vision of St. Ignatius de Loyola at the Chapel of La Storta, near Rome, is a gift the Christian Life Community in the Philippines and was inaugurated last May 20, 2021, the anniversary of the conversion of St. Ignatius de Loyola.
• Garden of God’s Reign, donated by Raymond and Marrot Moreno, features the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary and was inaugurated last October 27, 2021.
• Garden of St. Therese of the Child Jesus – donated by Wilfredo “Ike” and Evelyn Eslao and Lucio and Sylvia de Ayre.
• Gardens of the First Companions – donated by the Ateneo High School Class of 1976, it has statues of St. Peter Savre, St. Francis Xavier, St. Ignatius de Loyola, St. Dominic Guzman and St. Theresa of Avila.
• Garden Shrine of Our Lady of Peace

• Loyola Rock Garden
• Manresa Rock Garden – donated by Manuel and Juanita Tiankiansee, it was inaugurated last May 20, 2021, the anniversary of the conversion of St. Ignatius de Loyola.
• Our Lady of Montserrat Rock Garden
• Our Lady of Aranzazu Rock Gardens – donated by the Banez Family

The park also houses the Jesuit Villa, native Ifugao huts, vantage points, Beatitudes arches, pandemic healing memorial, prayer houses, Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing Park), Jesus Apostles Dap-ayan, Blue Moon Gate, Kapilya Nina Jesus at Maria, Cordillera Heritage Garden, Marian Salubong View Deck and Christ the Redeemer, and the Retreat House.

The tiny Cafe Inigo by Ebai, offering al fresco dining (cakes, pastries, specialty drinks, etc.) with great views, was once a long distance station of PLDT and a caretaker’s house before being repurposed.

How to Get There : In the city proper, take a jeepney at Kayang Street and ask to be dropped off at the Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House near the barangay hall of Dominican Hill-Mirador and the jeepney terminal area.  Near the registration area is a parking lot (parking fee: Php25).
