La tour CB16 se rebaptise Liberty Tower

N’en déplaise à certains, l’anglicisme à la cote à La Défense. Alors que la plupart des gratte-ciels du quartier d’affaires de l’Ouest parisien adoptent depuis quelques années déjà pour des noms à consonnance anglaise, une nouvelle tour historique vient d’emboiter le pas.

Partners Group, société internationale de gestion de placements dans les marchés privés, agissant pour le compte de ses clients, et son asset manager Arax Properties ont renommé dernièrement la tour CB16 en Liberty Tower.

Acquise en 2017 par Partners Group pour près de 170 millions d’euros , le building érigé au début des années 70, est l’un des plus anciens du quartier d’affaires. Bâtiment dit de « première génération », CB16, a été longtemps connu sous le nom de son occupant EDF-GDF. Au tout début des années 2000, le groupe public avait abandonné le gratte-ciel pour s’installer dans la toute nouvelle tour PB6, devenue tour Légende .

Après le départ de l’entreprise, Hines avait initié une importante restructuration du bâtiment de 28 000 mètres carrés. L’édifice a accueilli, jusqu’à il y a peu, l’entreprise canadienne de services-conseils en technologie de l’information CGI (anciennement Logica) ainsi que la multinationale Rio Tinto.

Pour redonner un nouveau souffle à cette tour colorée d’une façade vitrée verte, Partners Group et Arax Properties ont initié au cours des vingt-quatre derniers mois une nouvelle rénovation.

L’offre servicielle du bâtiment a été entièrement réinventée, avec notamment l’ouverture d’un plateau de services au dernier étage offrant aux utilisateurs des salles de réunion avec des équipements « à la pointe de la technologie », un espace de coworking, un skybar et son lounge. Le tout se déploie sur un millier de mètres carrés avec des vues uniques sur La Défense. Les services comprennent également un espace fitness et une salle bien-être inaugurés cette année, un restaurant d’entreprises et une cafeteria.

« Avec vingt-quatre baux signés ces deux dernières années, représentant plus de 13 800 mètres carrés, Liberty Tower a établi un nombre record de transactions pour le marché de La Défense », se félicitent Partners Group et Arax Properties. Le building a su séduire notamment le ministère de l’Intérieur, une filiale d’Enedis, SGD Pharma, Sandvik ou encore Convera.

« Nous avons travaillé au repositionnement de cet immeuble en partenariat avec Arax Properties afin de mettre en place une offre servicielle de haut niveau pour un usage multilocataires. Les résultats locatifs confirment la pertinence du nouveau positionnement de Liberty Tower et l’adéquation qui existe entre notre offre locative et les attentes du marché », confie Philippe Dewevre, Head of Private Real Estate Asset Management Europe, Partners Group.

« Notre stratégie de flexibilité a pour vocation d’offrir plus de liberté à nos locataires dans leurs choix. Nous avons finalisé la signature de plus de 13 800 mètres carrés à des utilisateurs publics et privés (dans les secteurs de l’IT, du conseil et de la santé) et pour des surfaces allant de 250 à 3 400 mètres carrés. Nous affichons un taux d’occupation de plus de 60 % et poursuivons la commercialisation des étages les plus élevés, avec des surfaces disponibles entre 250 et 6 000 mètres carrés », rajoute Loïc Cohen, Partner, Arax Properties.

Liberty Tower qui dispose à ce jour d’environ 11 000 mètres carrés de bureaux disponibles est commercialisée dans le cadre d’un mandat quadri-exclusif avec CBRE, BNP Paribas, JLL et C&W. Les sociétés Tétris (design & build), Creartchi (architecture d’intérieur) et Impact Communication (marketing) sont intervenues sur la régénération de la tour.

Delphi murders defense team make new bias accusations against judge

Delphi murders defense team moves to disqualify judge.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The defense team in the Delphi murders case has made 14 new accusations against Special Judge Fran Gull, claiming she is biased against the defense and needs to recuse herself from the case.

The 40-page filing was the second time the defense has filed a motion to disqualify the judge appointed to the case from Allen County.

Richard Allen, 51, of Delphi, was arrested on Oct. 28, 2022,  for the February 2017 murders of 13-year-old Abigail “Abby” Williams and 14-year-old Liberty “Libby” German near the Monon High Bridge in Delphi.

In his attorneys’ first filing , they cited 18 reasons. The second filing adds 14 more grievances against the judge.

Allen’s attorney’s claim the judge is biased against him because she has had one-sided communications with witnesses for the defense who did not include the defense team.

They also claim Gull called them negligent and incompetent in filings and, in court, has shown bias against them.

They say the bias goes even further because Gull has handled filings by the prosecution and defense differently, granting hearings for the prosecution quickly while taking a long time to grant hearings and make decisions on defense motions.

One of the defense attorneys’ biggest complaints about the judge is that she would not extend the trial that was supposed to be happening in May. They say, by her not extending the trial, it violated Allen’s constitutional rights to a fair trial.

They also say Gull is biased because she has not allowed cameras in the courtroom, except for the one hearing where the defense team was originally thrown off of the case.

There were a slew of other filings in the case Friday.

Gull denied, in part, a defense motion to delay hearings scheduled for next week.

The defense had asked for the delay to have more time to prepare after new testimony was uncovered during recent depositions.

The judge did push back the hearing on the testimony, but she will hear arguments next week about whether or not confessions made by Allen in a state prison while awaiting trial will be admissible in court. He was moved to the prison after the Carroll County said he was unable to keep Allen in the county jail.

Gull next week will also hear arguments about what the defense team can and cannot say to a jury during the trial scheduled for October.

The pop star kicked off the European leg of her “Eras Tour” in Paris with four back-to-back shows from May 9 to May 12 at Paris’s La Défense Arena. The performances were her first since the release of her latest album , The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19.

Swifties have become well-versed in all things “Eras” since the “Fortnight” singer began what’s now the highest-grossing concert tour of all time back in March 2023. Swift’s fans can name each track of her 40-song-plus setlist, predict her surprise songs and recognize even the subtlest tweaks to her wardrobe.

But the release of Tortured Poets, just ahead of the European leg of her tour, stirred suspicion among fans as to how the songstress planned on integrating her newest era into her meticulously planned out live shows.

From new looks to new additions to the setlist, Swift did not disappoint.

‘Female Rage The Musical!’

Swift took to social media to celebrate the new Tortured Poets section of the “Eras Tour” on May 12. Referring to the era as “Female Rage The Musical!” — a term she’s since filed a trademark for — Swift thanked her team for helping bring the surprise together.

“To my crew, fellow performers, and band who worked tirelessly in their break to concoct this surprise for you — but mostly for the fans in Paris. I’m so thankful that it was you we got to show this to for the first time because you gave us so much excitement, passion and love,” she wrote in her posts on X and Instagram. “I’m SO fired up to play this for every crowd on the tour.”

With a new era come new costumes.

On May 9, Swift debuted ensembles for the Tortured Poets chapter of the show, which included a custom Vivienne Westwood gown with white lace-up ankle boots by Christian Louboutin . The corseted bodice and high-low skirt was covered in cursive writing that reads “I love you, it’s ruining my life,” a line from “Fortnight,” the album’s debut single featuring Post Malone.

Swift’s other eras received a fashion facelift too. With the exception of her Reputation era, the pop star debuted new variations of her previous tour costumes. 

New outfits included an orange-hued Versace bodysuit , ethereal Alberta Ferretti gowns (in both yellow and red) and sparkly Roberto Cavalli separates .

Swift’s famous friends are known to drop in to catch her shows, and fans were in good company on the fourth night of the “Eras Tour” in Paris.

Gigi Hadid and boyfriend Bradley Cooper were spotted dancing the night away alongside Swift’s NFL superstar boyfriend Travis Kelce.

The fourth Paris show marked Swift’s 87th “Eras Tour” performance, which also happens to be Kelce’s jersey number. Fans speculate that Swift honored her “So High School” beau by wearing Kansas City Chiefs colors — red and gold — for the 1989 section of her performance.

What’s next for Swift?

Swift is heading to Sweden for three performances at Stockholm’s Friends Arena from May 17 to May 19.

Taylor Swift's European Eras Tour leg kicked off in Paris with a new setlist. See which songs are in and out.

Taylor Swift fever struck Paris on Thursday as the highest-grossing tour in history finally arrived in Europe, with fans treated to the first-ever performance of songs from her latest album.

The Eras Tour began its European leg with four dates at the La Defense Arena in Paris.

"I wish I could have toured Europe more. This is a dream crowd," the 34-year-old megastar told the ecstatic audience.

There were deafening shrieks as images of typewriter sheets indicated that songs off the new album "The Tortured Poets Department" were starting late in the show.

Emerging in a lyrics-covered dress, she ran through several of the darker new tracks starting with "But Daddy I Love Him" and "Fortnight", a particularly furious rendition of "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" and an elaborate "I Can Do it with a Broken Heart," with a golden-era Hollywood dance routine.

Other "The Tortured Poets Department" songs performed included "So High School," "Down Bad" and "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," according to ETonline .

"You were the first crowd to see songs from 'The Tortured Poets Department'," she said, before adding: "Or, as I like to call it, 'Female Rage: the Musical.'"

That was a dream come true for many in the audience.

"I've been so excited for so long, I can't believe it's actually happening," said 11-year-old Emma, who had flown in with her mother from New York.

Adding songs from "The Tortured Poets Department" wasn't the only change to the show and its 45-song setlist.

Perhaps the biggest change, according to ETonline, is the "Folklore" and "Evermore" setlists were combined, cutting four songs across the two albums: "'Tis the Damn Season," "Tolerate It," "The 1" and "The Last Great American Dynasty."

"On the Eras Tour, we have now reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter," Swift said, according to video posted to social media. "You can call it "Folklore, Evermore" or you can call it the Sister Albums! You can call it whatever you want as long as you promise to sing 'Champagne Problems' with me."  

"The Archer" was removed from the "Lovers" portion of the show and "Long Live" was cut from the "Speak Now" era setlist, according to ETonline.

One of the secret songs was, fittingly, the "Midnights" bonus track "Paris."  

Parts of the show were also rearranged to make room for the newest era. The "Red" era was moved from the fifth to the third slot, according to ETonline, and the newest album was introduced following the "1989" set.

The venue said a fifth of the crowd were from the United States — many attracted by Europe's rules against charging huge mark-ups on resale tickets that can save Americans thousands of dollars compared with shows at home.

Georg'Ann Daly decided to celebrate her 23rd birthday with the Paris show. It meant flying from Nashville to Chicago to London and catching the Eurostar to Paris.

"I've always been obsessed with Taylor Swift," she told AFP.

A handful of superfans camped out from Tuesday in Paris to ensure they got a prime spot.

"I didn't plan to, but I came to check it out and I saw the first tents and I panicked a little," said Chris, 30.

Noah, 20, is seeing all four Paris concerts — he used 22 email addresses to get through the lottery system and secure the tickets.

After wrapping up her run in Paris, Swift will head for dates in Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Poland and Austria.

The Eras Tour has worked its way across North and South America and Asia since starting in March 2023.

By the end of the year, it had already become the first to sell more than $1 billion in tickets and is on track to more than double that by the time it concludes in Vancouver this December.

Swift's popularity shows no sign of dimming — the new album sold 1.4 million copies on its first day and broke every streaming record , reaching a billion streams on Spotify within five days.

Swift's tell-all dissections of her love stories have been the fuel powering her global domination, and fans have been poring over "The Tortured Poets Department" for cryptic clues about ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, her short-but-dramatic fling with Matty Healy (lead singer of The 1975), and her current partner, American football star Travis Kelce.

"Taylor talks about toxic relationships, impossible love, politics, mental health, and so much more," said Chris as she waited by her tent for the big moment. "I think we can all find a song that resonates with our experiences."

When Taylor Swift wears something, people pay attention.

During the Paris stop of her Eras Tour , she not only featured new songs from her new album "The Tortured Poets Department," but she also showed off several new looks.

One of the most noted came in the form of her wearing Kansas City Chiefs colors for the "1989" set of her performance on Sunday — which may be a subtle tribute to her boyfriend Travis Kelce who is a tight end for the team.

She wore a sparkling gold crop top and a reddish-orange skirt as she sang "Style" and "Blank Space" from her fifth studio album. The look was paired with one yellow bootie and one orange.

Another fresh new ensemble was a fiery embroidered Versace body suit that she paired with pink and orange over-the-knee Christian Louboutin boots.

While singing "The Man," she topped her Versace body suit with a matching custom bodysuit.

During the "Fearless" section of her concert, there was also a new black, white and gold Naeem Khan beaded fringe dress. She completed the look with custom black Christian Louboutin Cate boots.

While performing "22," she stuck with her custom Ashish Gupta shirt, but instead of song lyrics, her latest look read: "This Is Not Taylor's Version."

For Swift's "1989" set, she wore a shimmering pink crop top and blue Roberto Cavalli ensemble similar to the red and orange look mentioned above.

During a performance of "Folklore" and "Evermore," she took the stage in a new, vibrant custom Alberta Ferretti gown.

Another hard-to-miss fresh ensemble was Swift's custom white and black Vivienne Westwood dress. She wore the look with white lace-up booties as she performed new songs from "The Tortured Poets Department."

PARIS, France — Who's afraid of little old Taylor Swift adding an additional set to her already extensive Eras Tour setlist ? The singer revivified her magnum opus in La Défense Arena adding seven songs from "The Tortured Poets Department."

Swift rearranged the majority of the show, leaving only the "Lover," "Fearless" and "Midnights" eras in their original spots. "Folklore" and "Evermore" joined forces in one eight-song set. Swift also debuted several new outfits and cut some songs from the set list.

Toward the end of her show, Swift officially launched the long-awaited “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the tour after the 1989 era.

Swift performed the track “But Daddy I Love Him” off the April 19 album for her ecstatic fans while wearing a new beige dress with cursive letters.

A road spiraled down the catwalk in an animation to initiate the era. The background animation showed a deserted road while large cages animated and fell on the road.

“Oh my god you should see your faces,” she sang.

She quickly segwayed into a brief moment of “So High School,” the beloved track speculated to be about her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She then performed the powerhouse anthem “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”

Swift switched to “Down Bad” before seamlessly transitioning into the lead single “Fortnight.” Stage production recreated an asylum that resembled the music video for the song with Post Malone, whose recorded harmony played concluding the song.

Dancers entered the stage in a marching band style format playing drums as she performed the wrath-fueled song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Dancers Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders then revived Swift in a jazzy skit to set up “I Can Do With A Broken Heart,” where she debuted another new outfit.

“The End” text displayed wrapping up the era that’s likely here to stay. Other beloved tracks like “Guilty As Sin” and “Florida!” did not make the cut.

At the start of the secret set, Swift described the "Tortured Poets" set as "Female Rage: The Musical." Fans then got to hear another song from the new album as she played heartbreaking ballad "loml" on the piano as part of her acoustic set.

Taylor Swift kicks off European tour in Paris with setlist changes

Taylor Swift fans from North America are going the extra mile — literally.

The pop star kicked off the 18-city European leg of her “Eras Tour” on Thursday in Paris, where she was joined in the París La Défense Arena by thousands of American Swifties who flew overseas to see her.

Thursday’s concert introduced a new setlist that reordered certain eras — including by moving “Red” up to earlier in the night — and combining the “Evermore” and “Folklore” eras, according to social media users who posted from the concert. She also performed songs from “ The Tortured Poets Department ” for the first time .

More than a quarter of tickets for the four Paris shows this weekend were purchased by Americans, according to Frédéric Longuépée, CEO of the París La Défense Arena. Tickets for the venue’s shows all sold in under an hour, he added.

“To the best of my understanding, a lot of Americans chose to come to Paris to attend this show and obviously visit our beautiful city,” said Longuépée, who estimated “something like 25–30%” of the crowd would be Americans, “which is big.”

Kennedy Smith, 21, skipped her college graduation to fly with her mother, Kathleen Smith, 56, from Texas to Paris to attend Swift’s concert instead.

Kathleen Smith said getting to see the singer was “nothing short of a miracle” — the pair stayed up all night in hopes of securing tickets, which cost them around $1,500 each. The two were first in line Wednesday to purchase merchandise at the venue, walking away with two bags full of Swift-themed gear.

Her daughter called the experience the “trip of a lifetime.”

“This is my graduation-from-college gift at Texas A&M,” she said. “And I’ve always wanted to come to Europe. ... And then to be seeing Taylor Swift, it’s just a dream come true.”

Securing tickets for the North American “Eras Tour” initially proved so difficult that the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing criticizing Ticketmaster’s “monopoly” after the platform canceled ticket presales in November 2022 amid overwhelming demand.

Some fans had reported that their invite codes failed to work, while others said they abruptly lost the tickets they had already placed in their cart. The chaos, which garnered a response from Swift herself , led Ticketmaster to offer some scorned fans a second chance at buying tickets.

The saga continued last year when Ticketmaster halted ticket sales for the “Eras Tour” shows in Paris and Lyon, after the website crashed amid technical glitches and hourslong wait times plaguing the more than 700,000 fans in the queue.

Zoe McCormack, a Canadian fan who experienced the Ticketmaster crash , said she managed to get tickets the following week for multiple nights in Paris, where she now lives. She said her non-VIP tickets here cost €190 each, or about $205, making them more affordable than U.S. tickets.

Many tickets for Swift’s shows in Europe cost only a fraction of what tickets cost for her U.S. dates, making them more financially accessible for North American fans who either failed to secure tickets in the U.S. last year or found prices too exorbitant. Some resale tickets sold for tens of thousands of dollars.

“I’m so happy that she came to Paris, especially since she has that ‘Paris’ song. I’ve been waiting for this moment ever since I moved to Paris,” McCormack said. “I’m so excited to be here. I can’t believe that it’s already here because we got the tickets almost a year ago. So it’s been a whole year of anticipation, getting the costumes ready, getting our bracelets ready.”

Traveling to see concerts abroad is not a new phenomenon, as buying tickets for concerts in the U.S. has become an increasingly competitive and highly expensive ordeal for fans of popular artists such as Swift, Beyoncé and Olivia Rodrigo . Many American fans of Beyoncé also opted to see her “Renaissance World Tour” in Europe instead .

Swift’s next stop, in Stockholm, expects to see about 10,000 American attendees, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist Carl Bergqvist told The Associated Press . Airlines have also added extra flights from bordering Nordic countries, he added.

The pop star was lauded last year by the U.S. Federal Reserve and several municipal governments for her economic impact as “The Eras Tour” boosted tourism revenue nationwide. Europe may experience the same effect, as Bergqvist said Stockholm’s 40,000 hotel rooms are sold out for Swift’s three tour dates there, and that “Eras Tour” concertgoers are expected to inject around 500 million Swedish krona, or more than $46 million, into the local economy.

The New York Liberty took a risk and evened the WNBA semifinals

The New York Liberty played 88 possessions of zone defense during the regular season. That accounted for about 3 percent of their possessions, essentially a statistical anomaly. The league’s third-best defense was built off man-to-man principles with hardly any deviation from its base. There was no real need for the Liberty to even practice in a zone.

Against the Connecticut Sun in Game 2, however, New York’s normal scheme wasn’t working. Tiffany Hayes was getting into the lane with ease with her dribble penetration, and the Liberty perimeter defenders were getting back-cut by the other Sun guards on the way to the rim. Connecticut scored 12 points at the basket in the first quarter, despite a significant size disadvantage, on the way to building a double-digit lead. The Liberty needed to find a way to keep the Sun out of the paint, and their only recourse was transforming a little-used wrinkle into their primary option.

Out of 77 total possessions in Game 2, New York played zone for 32 of them, good for 42 percent of the game. After the first 10 minutes, Connecticut shot 38 percent from the field and managed only 12 more points in the paint. By sealing off the most valuable real estate on the floor, the Liberty turned the tide of Tuesday’s game and evened up the WNBA semifinals at one game apiece with an 84-77 victory.

“That’s a tough team, Connecticut, with the movement and their versatility, so the zone,” coach Sandy Brondello said. “Obviously, we went to the zone, but there was still a lot of communication. It’s not a place where you can just stop playing. So the zone was effective for us tonight.”

Once New York switched its scheme, Connecticut couldn’t get any action going north-south and resorted to east-west ball movement. Sometimes, that shifted the 2-3 zone enough that the Sun could create open 3-pointers on the wing, but even those looks were well beyond the arc. When they managed to get the ball into the paint, they met congestion. The Liberty were able to create tie-ups and deflections by converging on the ball and then ran the floor well in transition; even though Connecticut had only 10 turnovers, New York converted those into 17 points.

The Sun finished the night with an offensive rating of 101.3, which would have been about league-average during the regular season. Conversely, the Liberty posted a 110.5 offensive rating, even better than its mark through the first 40 games.

While the Sun had difficulty getting into the paint, the Liberty solved their offensive woes by relentlessly directing their actions toward the basket. Sabrina Ionescu couldn’t find daylight for 3-pointers, but she was able to blow by defenders and use her strength to finish at the rim and and earn foul shots. Her ability to draw multiple fouls on Rebecca Allen helped the defensive effort; with Allen in foul trouble and DiJonai Carrington unable to play due to injury, Connecticut didn’t have another spacer to put on the floor. That meant New York could collapse into the paint even more aggressively with two non-shooters on the court; as a result, rebounding became less of an issue. Traditionally, teams in a zone defense concede offensive rebounds, but the Liberty pulled down more offensive boards than the Sun and were outscored by two on second-chance points.

New York has talked all year about learning how to play together given the roster overhaul during the offseason. It managed to come together quicker than expected during the regular season, posting the second-best record and becoming only the 13th team to win 80 percent of its games. That expedited chemistry was on display Tuesday, as the Liberty needed to figure out how to play an unfamiliar system and execute with their season essentially on the line.

“We hadn’t played zone in a while, to be honest,” Ionescu said. “So for all five that came in and played, to be locked in and on a string and understanding where we have to be, communication, making plays difficult for them getting into their action, but also rebounding out of the zone, it speaks a lot just about how prepared we were and understanding whatever coach was going to put us in, that’s what we were going to do.”

Going forward, New York doesn’t want to rely on a junk defense to contend with Connecticut. This team prides itself on one-on-one defense and recognizes the need to improve in that arena. The Sun, led by coach of the year Stephanie White, will certainly find ways to exploit the 2-3 zone now that they have a couple of days to make adjustments, and the Liberty will have to be better in their core principles to defend at a high level.

In a five-game series, though, teams have to do whatever it takes to win individual games. A statistically anomalous defensive scheme may not matter over the course of a 40-game season, but it takes on a significantly greater importance in the playoffs. And New York is alive because of its willingness to be a little unconventional.

Taylor Swift debuts ‘Tortured Poets’ songs live as Eras Tour resumes

Swift made some significant changes to the 3-hour-and-15-minute set when she kicked off the European leg of her record-shattering tour Thursday after a two-month break.

Taylor Swift’s record-shattering Eras Tour has essentially been a well-oiled, steady machine since it launched in March 2023 — she switched up a few songs on occasion, but mostly stuck to the same set list during the 3-hour-and-15-minute spectacle. And Swift’s loyal fan base has spent hours studying footage from around the world, with millions tuning in on fan-hosted live-streams to memorize every detail.

But on Thursday, Swift made some significant changes to the show for the first time as the tour kicked off its European leg at Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, France, for the first of four sold-out concerts. As many predicted, she debuted live performances of her songs from her 11th studio record, “The Tortured Poets Department,” a double album that contains 31 tracks and sold the equivalent of 2.61 million albums in its first week (combining physical sales and streams) when it dropped in mid-April .

“You are so present and it means the world to us as performers when you show up to a concert and when you act this way. … It makes us want to show you all kinds of fun surprises,” Swift, 34, told the extremely enthusiastic audience early in the night, calling the Eras Tour “the best experience of my life, honestly.”

The concert was live-streamed by fans on TikTok. One viewed by The Washington Post featured a news ticker running at the bottom of the video with updates about the show: new outfits, new video screen visuals, a new order for some of the songs. Swift, who divides her set list into “eras” from her 18-year career, kicked off the “Tortured Poets” era about two hours into the concert with “But Daddy I Love Him” — a track that many interpret to be a message to her fan base about their, ah, extreme interest in her love life and the men she dates.

“I’ll tell you something about my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace,” Swift sang, running back and forth across the stage throughout. “… God save the most judgmental creeps who say they want what’s best for me, sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see.” At the end, she sat down with her dancers and added a verse from “So High School” with lines that include “You know how to ball; I know Aristotle” — thought to be a reference to her boyfriend , the very famous football player Travis Kelce. (Swift did not sit for any interviews about the album and has provided very little detail for the ideas behind the lyrics.)

Even if they were being scolded, the fans loved it. The ecstatic screaming and cheering continued in the audience as Swift continued through “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” which appears to detail the downsides of fame, along with breakup anthems “Down Bad” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” along with her new single with Post Malone, “Fortnight.” Swift added all kinds of new dance routines and set pieces, including one that made it look as if she were levitating across the stage.

And she performed a brief play before “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” an upbeat track about how she was able to perform on the Eras Tour even through heartbreak. Two magicians dragged her lifeless body to another part of the stage where they “forced” her to change into another sparkly outfit as she rolled her eyes and reluctantly got ready to dance.

“So you were the first crowd ever to see ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ chapter of the Eras Tour!” Swift said cheerfully during the next set where she played a couple of surprise acoustic songs. “Or as I like to call it, ‘Female Rage: The Musical.’”

Otherwise, many chapters of the show stayed the same. Though some wondered whether Swift would simply extend the concert to four hours, she cut six songs overall and condensed the “Folklore” and “Evermore” eras into one, explaining that she considers them “sister albums” because she recorded them during the same year early in the pandemic.

“I’ve always thought ‘Folklore’ to me represents spring and summer and ‘Evermore’ represents fall and winter. So on the Eras Tour, we have now reunited the sisters and combined them into one chapter,” she said. She wrapped up the concert with “Karma” a little after 11 p.m. Paris time after running through 45 songs, and thanked her dancers and band for learning all the new material.

The European leg of the Eras Tour will run through mid-August, and the tour will resume in the United States and Canada in the fall.

Russia expels British defense attaché in a tit-for-tat move

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia on Thursday declared Britain's defense attaché persona non grata and gave the diplomat a week to leave the country in response to London's decision to expel the Russian defense attaché earlier this month over spying allegations.

Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it summoned a representative of the British Embassy in Moscow on Thursday to express its “strong protest in connection with the unfriendly and groundless decision” to expel the Russian attaché from London. “We emphasized that we regard this step as a politically motivated action of clearly Russophobic nature, which is causing irreparable damage to bilateral relations,” the statement read.

Britain on May 8 announced several measures to target Moscow’s intelligence gathering operations in the U.K. Those included a decision to boot Maxim Elovik, a Russian colonel who the British government termed an “undeclared military intelligence officer,” rescinding the diplomatic status of several Russian-owned properties because they are believed to have been used for intelligence purposes, and imposing new restrictions on Russian diplomatic visas and visits.

The government said the measures followed criminal cases in London alleging espionage and sabotage by people acting on behalf of Russia.

It also cited allegations that the Russian government planned to sabotage military aid for Ukraine in Germany and Poland and carried out spying in Bulgaria and Italy, along with cyber and disinformation activities, air space violations and jamming GPS signals to hamper civilian air traffic.

In response, Russia's Foreign Ministry on Thursday announced the expelling of the British defense attaché Adrian Coghill, and vowed “further retaliatory steps.”

The U.K. has had an uneasy relationship with Russia for years, accusing its agents of targeted killings and espionage, including cyberattacks aimed at British lawmakers and leaking and amplifying sensitive information to serve Russian interests. After Russia sent troops into Ukraine, Britain has also sanctioned hundreds of wealthy Russians and moved to clamp down on money laundering through London’s property and financial markets.

Caitlin Clark show comes to Big Apple as Fever visit Liberty

“We have to show up and play our 40 minutes of best basketball in order to win,” Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu said.

It is a rematch of Thursday night’s 102-66 rout in favor of the Liberty (2-0), an outcome that put a damper on the Fever’s home opener.

New York’s Breanna Stewart racked up a 31-point, 10-rebound double-double to at least overshadow Clark statistically.

The rematch comes at Barclays Center, which is the next stop on Clark’s rookie tour that so far has created festive atmospheres combined with on-court frustrations for the Fever (0-2).

Indiana’s shortcomings have come at both ends of the court.

“You don’t win a lot of games giving up 102 (points),” Fever coach Christie Sides said. “We’ve got to do a better job.”

Clark scored nine points and delivered six assists in Thursday’s game. She’s fully cognizant of the attention placed on her after a record-setting collegiate career at Iowa and the responsibility that comes with it.

“I’m very aware of it,” Clark said. “People get so excited to come to these games and are spending a lot of their time and money.”

New York’s Betnijah Laney-Hamilton defended Clark tightly. Clark was 2-for-8 from the field, including 1-for-7 on 3-pointers in the game in Indianapolis.

“She just needs to get a little bit of confidence right now,” Sides said. “I think she’s taking some shots that she normally would knock down.”

Through two games, Clark has averaged 14.5 points and 6.5 turnovers per game.

“These people are coming for a show, and not everything is going to be perfect,” Clark said.

The buzz around the Fever is fine with others in the league. They see the benefits that could come from it.

“People want to be a part of this,” Stewart said. “The thing now is to continue to sustain it.”

Stewart has excelled in the past against the Fever. Last season, she reached the 40-point mark twice vs. Indiana, pouring in 45 and 42 points.

The Liberty have won the last seven meetings with Indiana. Ionescu has a stretch of 27 consecutive regular-season games with at least one 3-point basket.
