Time took : 2-3 hours of trek. M

Trek Gradient : Moderate ascent mostly through forest

Water Sources : Carry sufficient water as there are enough waterfalls and streams along the trail to refill whenever needed.

Trail description : Make your way to Jagat Sukh by bus and hire a vehicle or get on one which is going to Baara Hazar. Once there look for the Duahngan Dam Control Room which will be to the right of the valley connected by a bridge. Make your way across the bridge and you will see a trail on the left leading into the woods. Follow this trail and look for a bridge that connects you to the left side of the valley. Cross the bridge and prepare yourself for a steep incline for the next 15-20 minutes. which is followed by a gradual walk. You’ll come across a lot of waterfalls and small streams on the trail.

A peculiar thing about the trail is at some places the whole trail closes and then within a few hundred meters opens up. Half an hour of a walk later the trail opens up to the whole valley opens up and you can see the Chikka campsite in the distance. Though an ascent is a gradual one. A small hike through the meadows will lead you to a few muddy houses. Set up your camp here

Day 2: Chikka to Seri

Altitude : 10498 ft (3136m) to 12795 ft (3900m)

Time took : 5-6 hrs, 6km

Trek gradient : Moderate ascent through some forest trail and meadows but mostly boulders

Water Sources : Carry sufficient water as there are multiple water sources along the way to the next camp

Trail description : Beginning your day with a straight walkthrough forest trail that is well marked with cairns and stones throughout. An hour into the trek, you cross a stream and a little ahead of the stream is a small section with boulders. Be careful carefully if it’s raining or has just rained. The boulders get slippery after a spell of showers. Some steep climbs await you after you cross the boulder section.  Make sure you switch back and not strain your knees too much.

Water sources are plenty along most of the trail

3 km after you began in the morning you will reach a small meadow called Panduropa or sometimes even called Dudu. This could serve as an alternate campsite should you chose not to camp at Chikka the previous day. And there is a water source close by so refill your bottles before you’re back on the trail again. An hour’s walk from Panduropa, you will again come across a boulder section. However, no need to worry as the trail is very prominent. So keep on it. Cross the boulder section and your next campsite – Seri awaits.

Seri is a field of sand & grass surrounded by massive mountains.  Spend your afternoon and evening watching the neighbouring peaks of Norbu, Jagatsukh, and Malana pass. You will also get a partial view of Deo Tibba from here.

Day 3: Seri to Deo Tibba Base Camp

Altitude : 12795 ft (3900m) to 13684 ft (4171m)

Time took : 4-5 hrs, 4 km

Trek gradient : Moderate to  Steep ascent through a rocky path.

Water sources : Carry 2 litres of water from Seri as there is no water source available.

Trail description : Start your day with an easy walk on the grassy meadows of Seri. As you walk along the river towards a waterfall at one point you will see a cairn.  Cross the river at this point and continue following the trail. Soon you’ll notice the trail climbing up and mind you it’s very steep for the next 2-2 1/2 hours. However,  once you reach the top you can breathe a sigh of relief.

The golden hour of the sun at Seri Campsite

The golden hour of the sun at Seri Campsite

It’s a plain walk to the next campsite, continue following the trail on the right bank of the river till you reach a big boulder where the trail ends. Cross the river here and continue walking on the meadows until you find a suitable spot to pitch your tent. As there are multiple water sources available you can be flexible as to where you want to set up camp.

Day 4: Deo Tibba Base to Chotta Chandartal and back to base

Altitude : 13684 ft (4171m) to 14698 ft (4480m) to 13684 ft (4171m)

Time took : 2-3 hrs, 2 km

Trek gradient : A moderate climb through rocks & boulders

Water sources : Carry 2 Litres of water from the base camp. Glacial streams are not reliable.

Trail description:  The trail to Chota Chandratal can be quite confusing as the walk is mainly through sections of rock and moraine. Begin your trek from the left of the small stream and take the steep climb. Switch-backing will make it easier for your to climb. There is no proper trail till Chota Chandratal and you will have to rely on your navigational instinct. Therefore one way to find your way to Chota Chandratal is to move in the direction of Norbu Peak which usually will be the highest peak on your right when you walk upstream.

Deo Tibba Base camp covered with snow

Deo Tibba Base camp covered with snow. Image from Indiahikes Archive

Along the trail, you’ll get to see Deo Tibba, Norbu and Jagatsukh peaks respectively from your left. A few hundred meters ahead before the lake the trail appears. Walking for about 45 minutes to 1 hour on the defined trail will get you to the Chota Chandratal at an altitude of 4480 meters. If you still have enough energy left and you want to explore more, 1 hour ahead of Chota Chandratal is Bada Chandratal which is the bigger of the two lakes.

Get back to the base camp by the same route that you came up with. However, this time you might find the trek a bit challenging. Descending can be hard on your knees.  Especially on a day like today when the terrain has rock, boulder and Morain section sections.

Day 5: Deo Tibba Base to Seri

Altitude : 13684 ft (4171m) to 10286 ft (3136m)

Time took : 3-4 hrs, 4 km

Trek gradient : Beginning with a flat meadow walk followed by a steep descent down the rocks

Trail description : Start your day with a flat walk on the meadows followed by a crossing of the river. Essentially you’ll be heading back taking the same route which you took to come up.  However, caution is advised while descending as it gets steep. If it has just rained then it can get slippery and tricky so get a firm footing before you take the next step down.  The descent is followed by a river crossing and then a walk through the grasslands towards the Seri Campsite.

Day 6: Seri to Baara Hazar

Altitude : 10286 ft (3136m) to 8858ft (2700m)

Time took : 5hrs hrs, 8.6 km

Water sources : Carry 2 litres of water from Seri, you can also refill your bottles at Panduropa & Chikka

Trek gradient : Moderate, Gradual descent through alpine forests, meadows and some boulder section

Trail description : Today’s route is an easy one, you get back to Baara Hazar through the route you came up from. It takes 5-6 hours to reach Baara Hazar

➤  Travel to and from the Trek

The trek begins from the village of Baara Hazar about 10 kilometres away from Jagatsukh. Buses are plying to Jagatsukh from the Manali bus stand every 30 mins so getting to Jagatsukh shouldn’t be a problem. From Jagatsukh you’ll have to hire a private vehicle or find someone to share the travel costs to Baara Hazar.

On the other hand, buses to Manali are plenty, be it from ISBT in New Delhi or Chandigarh or Amritsar. These buses leave Delhi (or Chandigarh or Manali) sometime after sunset and usually take about 13-15 hours to reach Manali.

➤  Alternative Indiahikes treks you can do.

Deo Tibba is a beautiful trek, no two ways about it. The peaks that you can see from up close are incredible. However, the trek doesn’t offer a lot of variety over the 6 days. The trek can be done on your own, however, if you’re not too sure of doing it on your own we have a couple of alternative Indiahikes treks that we run.

Shea Goru campsite. PC: Nikshep Trinetra

Shea Goru campsite. PC: Nikshep Trinetra

Hampta pass would be a perfect alternative to Deo Tibba. It starts from Manali and goes through some of the same routes as Deo Tibba.  And you get to see the Deo Tibba peak as well with a pass crossing into the deserts of Lahaul.

Read more about Hampta Pass here.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a shorter and slightly easier trek near Manali, then we suggest Bhrigu lake. Essentially Bhrigu Lake is a trek through meadows. Most alpine meadows start at around 11,000 feet when you have just crossed the tree line. This requires 2-3 days of hard trekking to reach. While most of these meadows are a delight to behold, some are more special than others.

The ones on the Bhrigu lake trek are among these. What is special about the Bhrigu meadows is the way they change texture, shape and colour but stay with you all along the trek – right until Bhrigu lake.

Why Deo Tibba Is A Must-Do Trek ?

Deo Tibba stands as a prominent 6000-meter peak, ranking as the second-highest in the Pir Panjal Mountains.

Unlike traditional pointed ridges, Deo Tibba's summit surprises with a snow dome, resembling an ice cap.

The trek unfurls the diverse beauty of Himachal Pradesh, traversing through Jagatsukh village, dense forests, Birch trees, meadows, and glaciers.

  • Scenic elements include lakes, waterfalls, and rockfalls, showcasing the rich tapestry of the Himalayas.
  • Despite being a 6000-meter peak, Deo Tibba demands mountaineering-style climbing with technical equipment like fixed ropes, crampons, and ice axes.
  • Recommended only for seasoned trekkers possessing technical expertise.
  • Deo Tibba is a challenging trek, demanding more strength and endurance compared to easier treks.

Deo Tibba is a 6000-er peak and is the second-highest peak of the Pir Panjal Mountains. It is in the Kullu valley and the trek to Deo Tibba starts from Manali. There is a local belief that Gods assemble on the top hence the name Deo Tibba. The peak is climbed during many Mountaineering Courses expeditions by the ABVIMAS institute because it has technical importance. However, the peak is

Deo Tibba Peak Expedition Informative Video

suitable for trekkers starting in the mountaineering field.

The peak is exceptional in a way that the summit is not a pointed ridge but a snow dome just like an ice cap. The trail to the summit goes through the beautiful Himachal Pradesh. First comes the beautiful Jagatsukh village near Manali and all along the trail, you will be greeted with many scenic sights. Right from the beginning of each day, the trail keeps changing, starting with the dense forests to Birch trees to meadows to a glacier, showcasing every element of the Himalayas. It also never shies from showing lakes and waterfalls including rockfalls!

Even though it is a 6000-er like Stok Kangri the peak requires mountaineering-style climbing. It requires a load ferry, crossing technical terrain difficulties, using fixed ropes, crampons, ice axe, etc. Therefore,  Deo Tibba is a proper mountain expedition. It is recommended only for experienced trekkers having technical knowledge.

About The Trek

One of the most beautiful yet challenging treks in Manali, Deo Tibba takes you through lush forests of coniferous collective like pine, spruce, oak, fir, and silver birches with beautifully changing landscape to the top of the Deo Tibba summit.

The trek starts from Manali and on the first day of trekking, you will trek up to Chikka, crossing the beautiful village of Jagatsukh. It is one of the most beautiful Himalayan villages and was once the capital of Kullu. Chikka is a beautiful campsite where you will stay the night and the following day, you will head to Seri from Chikka. Seri is your next campsite after Chikka and then we will trek to Deo Tibba Base Camp the next day. Since Deo Tibba is a high-altitude trek, we need to take into consideration the fact of acquiring AMS, and as such we take necessary acclimatization measures.

Days 5 and 6 are acclimatization days. On day 5 you will rest and acclimatize yourself to the higher altitudes while on Day 6 we will load a ferry to Camp 1 and back to Deo Tibba Base Camp. The next day you will trek to Camp 1 from Deo Tibba Base Camp and stay the night at Camp 1. We will use the load ferry concept again the next day. You will load the ferry to the summit camp and make it back to Camp 1. The 10th day will be when we will make a summit attempt and then return to Camp 1. The next day you will descend to Deo Tibba Base Camp and the following day to Chikka and on the 13th day, you will head back to Manali ending the wonderful journey.

What Can You Expect At The Trek

The trek offers beautiful views of mighty Himalayan peaks like Deo Tibba (6001 m), and Indrasan (6220 m). You will pass through several scenic destinations along the trek like Chikka, Seri, and Tainta as well as mini  Chandrataal. You will also get a glimpse of the rivulet Ravi.

Deo Tibba is a difficult grade trek and as such it requires more strength and endurance as compared to other easy-level treks. It is best if you first gain experience in climbing 3000 m peaks and level up with a 6000-er. However, for beginners who are committed to completing the trek, start preparing at least 3 months before the trek so that you can be physically and mentally prepared for the trek.

Deo Tibba is a high-altitude trek and as such in the early months of the year, there are chances of snow on the higher passes which considerably starts to melt by August. mid-June to October is a good time to do the Deo Tibba Trek. The temperature ranges between 10 to 15 °C during the day and dips to a subzero temperature between -2 to 5 °C at night time. Appropriate clothing to battle the cold is advised. We suggest avoiding trekking in the monsoon because these places see heavy rainfall and the route can be extremely slippery and not to mention roadblocks and landslides due to the rain.

Trek The Himalayas offers transportation from and back to Manali and we also offer professional, mountaineering-certified trek leaders, guides, and support staff to help and assist you at every point of the trek. Also, the climatic conditions at higher altitudes vary a lot from the plains and proper acclimatization is very important. Keeping this in mind, we have included acclimatization days in the itinerary as well as the concept of load ferry, to give your body enough time to adjust to the lack of oxygen at higher altitudes. Meals are provided by us for all days of your trek with breakfast, lunch, and dinner and all the meals are nutritious and healthy.

  • Enough water sources on the way.
  • Seri campsite is a big green grassland.
  • Seri was once a glaciated lake.
  • Hot lunch at campsite.
  • Stay in tent.

Wake up fresh to start your hike to Seri. The trail starts with a gradual ascent through dense forest. As you move up slowly you may notice the forest cover getting sparse. The trail is throughout on the right of the Jagatsukh Nallah and it is well-marked with stones and cairns. You may also encounter freshwater springs at Panduropa and Dudu Patthar. An hour into your trek and you will cross a stream and a little further from the stream is a small section with boulders. If it has rained recently or raining during the trek then be very careful as these stones tend to get slippery. Once you cross the bouldered section, the climb gets steep, avoid straining your legs a little too much.

The Birch starts welcoming us through the trail followed by bushes. All of which vanishes to open grounds of meadows all of a sudden. These meadows are the grasslands of Seri but the campsite is a little away from here. After about 3 km of trekking, you will arrive at Panduropa, where you will find another bouldered section. Once you cross the bouldered section, your Seri campsite awaits you. You can see Tainta cliffs on the left and waterfalls on these rocks. This campsite is also pleasantly located on flat grounds. Seri once used to be a glacial lake but now it is a meadow that is drained of icy rivulets and now surrounded by greenery and wildflowers. From the campsite, you can see the neighboring cliffs of Jagatsukh, Norbu, Malana Pass, and a part of Deo Tibba peak. Stay overnight at the campsite.

Seri to Deo Tibba Base Camp

  • Altitude: 4,500 m/ 14,800 ft.
  • Altitude gain: 650 m/ 2,200 ft.
  • Trek Distance: 8 km | Duration: 5 to 7 hrs.
  • Seri to Deo Tibba Base Camp via Tainta and Chota Chandratal.
  • Gradual and steep mixed ascent.
  • Two major steep ascents, both are just before Tainta and Chota Chandratal.
  • Till Tianta walk is grassland and after that on the moraine.
  • According to Hindu Mythology, Dhomya Rishi did meditation at Chota Chandratal.
  • A mesmerizing view of Deo Tibba Peak for the base camp.

Today will be a little tough day compared to the previous two. The trek starts with a flat trail as you walk on the Seri grasslands. Keep walking along the Jagatsukh River and you will come across a waterfall, and somewhere nearby you will see a cairn. Cross the river and continue on the trail and you will begin climbing up. The climb is on the zig-zag trail till Tainta cliff and it is extremely steep for about 2-2 ½ hr. Once you cross the Nala or stream moraines start. You will overcome the boulder field. Another hour\'s walk on the ridge and you will be at the Tainta camp which is the base of the glacier.

As you can imagine henceforth the trail is through loose scree. Take your steps carefully. The climb through such a trail is for two hours until you reach Chota Chandratal. It is a tiny lake in the mountain depression. The entire lake is surrounded by wildflowers and the Deo Tibba peak towers beautifully against the lucid blue skies. Once you reach the top it's a flat walk all the way to the campsite. Your camp will be towards the downside of the lake. Unlike the previous two camps, this camp is in a closed valley. Cross the lake and find a suitable spot where you can pitch your tent.

Rest / Acclimatization day

  • An acclimatization day at this height is mandatory.
  • Explore and enjoy a campsite surrounded by peaks.
  • Technical gear distribution.
  • Visit Chota Chandratal After Lunch.
  • General Meeting For The Setup Of Camp 1 And Summit Camp.
  • Stay In Tent.

Wake up today to chill and rest. Since we have reached 4200 meters in height it is important to give your body the time for acclimatization. On a high-altitude trek, it is extremely crucial to take enough time to acclimatize. If you are rapidly gaining altitude and do not schedule enough time to acclimatize, you put yourself at a higher risk of altitude sickness. This usually happens when a trekker climbs too high too quickly. To avoid such problems, it is essential to slow down and allow your body to adjust. This promotes your body to go through the necessary physiological changes to adjust to the environment and the decreased oxygen intake at higher altitudes. As AMS is not dependent on the age, fitness level, or experience of an individual, it is important for trekkers to take an adequate amount of acclimatization break to adjust to higher altitudes.  However, if you do get AMS, our trek leaders are trained to detect and deal with the symptoms of AMS and will provide you with sound advice if you have the symptoms. Also, if you experience signs of AMS, let your trek leader know immediately.

You can roam here and there and explore the campsite. Technical equipment will be distributed and tested by our team. You can try them and clear your doubts. You can visit Chota Chandratal after lunch. In the evening there will be briefing sessions on the summit process and further plans.

Load ferry to Camp 1 (Duhangan Col)

  • Altitude: 5,100 m/ 16,800 ft.
  • Altitude gain: 600 m/ 2000 ft.
  • Trek duration: 4 to 5 hrs.
  • Moderate ascent for the first 200 m, steep for the next 300 m, and the last 100 m is gradual.
  • Camp 1 is set at the Duhangan Pass.
  • Camp 1 is marked by a saffron-colored rock, visible from your base camp.
  • The steep slope between 45 to 65 degrees.
  • Have to cross Deo Tibba Glacier for set up at Camp 1.
  • Glacier is full of open and hidden crevasses.
  • Ascent is a mix of snow, rock, and ice, known for rockfalls.
  • Load ferry will help participants to be better acclimatized for Day 7.
  • Carry enough water.
  • Packed lunch for the way.
  • Stay in the tent (Deo Tibba Base Camp).

Today will mark your journey into the mountaineering world. In Mountaineering it is important to do a load ferry. It is a term that works on the principle of working at high altitudes and sleeping in low altitudes, where climbers first carry their equipment and gear to the higher camp and rest for the night at base camp. Since the physiological functioning of the body at higher altitudes is different than that on plains, it is important to take the necessary acclimatization measures. The load ferry concept helps for acclimatization and avoids AMS even at higher heights. Today you will be carrying your gear to camp 1 and will come back for the night at the base camp.

The trail is difficult that starts with a moderate ascent for the first 200 m then steep for 300 m followed by a 100 m flat slope. Camp 1 is situated on Duhangan Pass. Uniquely the location of the campsite can be seen from Base Camp also due to saffron-coloured rocks. The slope is between 40 to 65 °C and is filled with snow and rocks. You can see that the glacier starts. There are many crevasses on the glacier so watch your steps. The trail is known for rockfall, therefore, follow your guide and team.

Once you have loaded all the gear have your lunch at camp 1 and get ready to go down. Stay will be in the tents at Base Camp.

Deo Tibba Base Camp to Camp 1

  • Altitude gain: 600 m/ 2,000 ft.
  • Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hrs.
  • The entire team will move to Camp 1.
  • Leave the base camp early in the morning.
  • Give proper rest to your body and keep warm
  • Stay in a tent (Camp 1).

Today will be the actual day when you will shift to camp 1 completely. Follow the same route as you did the day before. Be cautious on the rockfall area, glaciers, and while crossing rocks. The climb will take almost 5-6 hours. Make sure you do not exhaust your body and take enough rest. Stay in tents at camp 1.

Load ferry to Summit Camp

  • Altitude: 5,600 m/ 18,400 ft.
  • Altitude gain: 500 m/ 1,600 ft.
  • Trek distance: 4 km | Duration: 4 to 5 hrs.
  • Also known as Camp 2.
  • Ascent is full of snow.
  • The First 1 hr is a gradual ascent, the rest is a steep ascent.
  • Snow clothing and crampons are required.
  • Spend some time at summit Camp for better acclimatization and back to Camp 1.
  • Packed lunch for the day.
  • Carry warm water from the campsite.
  • Stay in tents (Camp 1).

It is time to move to the summit camp. But again it will only be load ferry and coming back to camp 1. Since we are gaining quite a bit of altitude in a limited time frame, altitude-related sickness is a possibility, which is why the load ferry concept is incorporated again to prevent altitude-related issues and to help your body adjust to the lack of oxygen. The entire trail is filled with snow in today’s trek. Therefore, wearing all the snow gear and clothing is necessary. Due to the presence of the snow, the trail becomes much more difficult.

For the first one hour, it is a moderate climb which later on becomes a steep climb. Be careful and follow your team. Follow the footsteps of your guide as he breaks the route open for you. Spend little time on the summit camp, and have lunch so that your body starts acclimatizing.  Again retrace your steps back to camp 1. Stay the night in Camp 1 and rest your body well.

Camp 1 to Summit Camp

  • Altitude difference: 500 m/ 1,600 ft.
  • The entire team will move to Summit Camp.
  • Leave all the unnecessary things at the Camp.
  • Final summit briefing.
  • Stay in tents (summit camp).

Today, the entire team will move to summit camp. Carry only minimal items that will be needed and leave the rest at camp 1 only. Follow the same as the day before. Since high-altitude climbing requires a proper acclimatization routine so expeditions usually employ the method of load ferry or making rounds between the camps to better adapt to the conditions. ‘Climb high and sleep low’ is a golden rule in such cases if you want to survive and successfully complete the expedition. For Deo Tibba, we make two rounds of the campsites, first during the load ferry when we move our stuff to Camp 1 and return to the lower campsite and again from Camp 1 and summit camp and back to Camp 1. This has many benefits. First, you divide the weight between two days so that you do not have to carry a massive weight during the trek. Second, it gives your body adequate time to adjust to the high altitude conditions, and lastly, each time you climb the same route, it becomes easier and also refines your techniques and skills.

Once you reach the camp, your team will brief you about the summit attempt. It’s a good time to brush up on the snow and ice skills. The night will be exciting as it will be the summit night. Eat full and rest properly for the summit attempt.

Summit Attempt and back to Camp 1

  • Altitude: 6000 m/ 19,700 ft.
  • Altitude gain: 400 m/ 1,300 ft.
  • Trek Distance: 6 km | Duration 4 to 6 hrs.
  • Recheck all equipment.
  • Summit attempt at 2-3 am in the morning.
  • Fixed rope required through the gully.
  • The First 300 m/ 1,000 ft is a steep and technical ascent.
  • The last 100 m/ 300 ft is easy to walk on the dome.
  • Indrasan peak is clearly visible.
  • Summit is a giant snow dome.
  • The final ascent to the peak has a few crevasses.
  • Just before the summit, the slope becomes. steeper.
  • Summit is wide and can accommodate all team members.
  • After the summit attempt wind up the summit camp and back to Camp 1.
  • Reach Camp 1 in the early evening.

The summit attempt will start at 2 am in the early morning. Wake up accordingly to get all geared up for the summit push. Recheck all your equipment and be prepared. The route starts by crossing a gulley using fixed ropes. The First 300 m is a steep and technical ascent.

Keep climbing up on the snow slopes. You can see the Indrasan Peak as you gain height. The slope gets steeper right before the summit. The summit is actually a big snow dome, open and flat. Hence, the last 100 m to the summit is almost a flat walk. There are also many crevasses towards the end. While climbing to the summit after crossing the gully is manageable but the real challenge is the thinning air as you constantly gain altitude.

The summit is wide open that can accommodate all the team members. When you arrive at the summit you can clearly see Indrasen peaks and a mountain lake. The views are absolutely stunning. If in any cases summit push gets halted then buffer days will be used. After the summit attempt, spend a little time at the summit, bask in your sense of accomplishment and come back to camp 1.

Descending can be a little tough on the knees so be careful and maintain a steady pace. The terrain also has boulders, moraines and rocks so be a little careful. Try to reach the Base Camp by lunchtime. Return all your technical equipment to your Trek Leader. Rest after the strenuous days in your tents.

Base Camp to Chhikka

  • Altitude loss: 1,400 m/ 4,600 ft.
  • Trek Distance: 16 km, Duration: 6 to 8 hrs.
  • Mixed steep and gradual descent.
  • Packed lunch on the way.

Start your return journey back home. Retrace your steps through steep trails and moraines. The path is gradual and flat in between.  Essentially, you will be walking down the same steps that you came in The trail will be 14 km long hence carry your packed lunch. Enjoy your last tent stay at Chika.

How To Reach

It is essential for everyone to arrive at Manali (11:00 am).

Once you have reached the assembly point of the trek in Manali, TTH will manage the rest of your travel arrangements, if you have opted for TTH's pick-up service, you can select this option during the booking process by adding it as an add-on.

Options

1.  Take overnight bus to Manali from Delhi or Chandigarh, taking a bus from Chandigarh is the most ideal option.

-Chandigarh to Manali Bus: 10 hours.

-Delhi to Manali Bus: 14 hours is hectic and takes more time.

We always recommend going for the govt. Buses over the private ones outside the bus station as based on the experience we have found that there are very high chances of delay involved with private buses. Also, govt. Buses are always more reliable. Whichever bus you choose, just make sure to reach Manali at 10 am.

3. You can take a flight to Bhuntar Airport (but we would not recommend it because of the high prices of the flight and very high chances of cancellations), Manali is just a couple of hours away and you can easily get a bus or a private taxi till there. If you do plan to come via Bhuntar, make sure to reach at least a day before the trek starts.

4. You can even come via train, Pathankot railway station is from where you can get direct buses to Kullu/Kasol that is 300 km from there and would take an overnight journey. Even in this case, reach a day before at Manali.

If you prefer to travel independently, you can either take a government bus or book a private cab. Your trek coordinator will provide guidance on how to arrange for the bus or cab booking.

Arrive in Manali by 6:00 pm.

The designated drop-off point is Manali Gov bus stand.

Please consider planning your subsequent travel arrangements after 8:00 pm.

TTH offers comfortable transportation through Tempo Traveler, Bolero, or equivalent vehicles. If you wish to upgrade your mode of transportation, please contact your trek coordinator for further assistance.

In the unlikely event that TTH cancels a trek prior to the scheduled departure date:

While it is extremely rare for TTH to cancel a trek, we understand that unforeseen circumstances or natural disasters may occasionally require us to do so before the scheduled departure. These circumstances could include continuous rain or snow, thunderstorms, snowstorms, landslides, floods, earthquakes, or any other natural calamity that poses a risk to the safety of our trekkers. Additionally, unforeseeable events such as local riots, curfews, pandemics, lockdowns, government orders, or any similar situations that compromise the safety of the trekking experience may also necessitate a cancellation.

In the event of such a cancellation, TTH will provide you with a voucher equivalent to the amount you paid for the trek. This voucher can be redeemed for any of our treks within the next year, allowing you to still enjoy an adventure with us at a later date.

The issuance of a voucher is not applicable in situations where you are required to descend from the trek for any reason. The trek leader may make the decision to send you down from the trek due to factors such as insufficient fitness level, symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), high blood pressure, exceeding the designated turn-around-time, health concerns, or if you are found smoking, drinking, or violating the rules set for the trek. In such cases, the provision of a voucher does not apply.

In the rare event that TTH shifts a trek:

We would like to emphasize that weather conditions in high-altitude areas are highly unpredictable and can undergo sudden changes at any time, irrespective of the day. Additionally, circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters, political unrest, pandemics, and lockdowns, may impact the feasibility of conducting a trek. In cases where we are unable to proceed with an event due to such circumstances that are beyond our direct control, we will make every effort to provide you with an alternative trek that is safer and more suitable.

In such situations, we will issue a voucher to offset the cost difference between the originally scheduled trek and the alternative trek. This voucher can be redeemed at any time within one year from the date of issue. Please note that a refund fee or reimbursement of the cost difference is not applicable in these cases.

How to choose the right trek?

Choosing the right trek for a beginner can be a bit overwhelming as there are many factors to consider such as distance, elevation gain, terrain difficulty, weather, and time of year. Here are some tips that can help you choose the right trek for a beginner:

1. Determine fitness level:  Assess the fitness level of the beginner to understand their physical capabilities. This will help you select a trek that is challenging but not too difficult.

2. Choose a well-traveled trail:  A well-traveled trail will have more amenities such as signposts, water stations, and shelter. It is also safer as there will be other hikers on the trail.

3. Consider the length of the trek:  For beginners, it is recommended to start with a shorter trek that can be completed in a day or two. This will help them get acclimatized to trekking and build their confidence.

4. Look for gradual elevation gain:  Choose a trek with a gradual elevation gain rather than steep ascents. This will make the trek easier and more enjoyable.

5. Check the weather:  Check the weather forecast before selecting a trek. Avoid treks during the monsoon season or winter when the trails can be slippery or dangerous.

6. Research the trail:  Read about the trail to get an idea of the terrain, altitude, and difficulty level. This will help you select a trek that is suitable for the beginner.

7. Consult with an expert:  If you are unsure about which trek to choose, consult our trek expert Mr. Nitin (+91 70600 59773) between 10 AM to 6 PM (Tuesday - Friday). Mr. Nitin will provide you valuable advice and guidance.

Overall, it is important to choose a trek that is enjoyable, challenging but not too difficult, and suitable for the beginner's fitness level and experience.

Can a beginner choose a tough trek?

It is not recommended for a beginner to choose a difficult Himalayan trek. If you are a beginner, it is recommended to start with an easier trek and gradually build up your skills and experience. This will help you understand the challenges of trekking in the Himalayas, and also prepare you physically and mentally for a more difficult trek in the future. It is also important to choose a trek that matches your fitness level, experience, and interest.

Layer Up From Head To Toe Eat Full Meals, never sleep empty stomach You can keep warmee (if you’re more susceptible to cold). Use sleeping bag in right way and don’t leave free space in sleeping bag.

For upper body – Thermal layer – T-shirt (full-sleeves) – Fleece T-shirt (for extreme colds) – Fleece layer – Thick Jacket/Down Jacket – Waterproof or Windproof layer (outermost layer, when it is snowing or raining) - For Lower Body – Thermal layer – Hiking pants (normal) or Winter hiking pants

Based on how warm you feel you can skip any of the above layers. Your outer later should be windproof since it is windy at high altitude. The idea behind layering is that the more insulation you have the less cold you feel, and instead of wearing a very thick jacket if you wear multiple layers, your body will be better insulated against the cold.

Brief Itinerary

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Make your way to Manali (2,050 M)

The trek starts from the town of Manali which is a very popular tourist destination and hence extremely accessible. If you need guidance on how to get to this high-altitude backpacking center, this article ( click here ) might come handy.

Day one is reserved for the participants to make their way into Manali and get settled into their accommodation in a Manali hotel. First half of the day is to get comfortable with the mountain air and each other. While the body acclimatizes, we take this time to get together with the group and delve into the happenings of the next few days - schedule, what to expect, basic do's and don'ts in the mountains, how to maintain the sanctity of the environment and such matters of importance.

Day 2: Rest and Acclimatization in Manali (2,050M)

We will spend a day in Manali to acclimatize the body to the altitude before heading on.  Use this day to go over your packing list and buy gears and clothing that you might be missing. It is a good idea to move around the town in order to acclimatize your body better – so go out and explore the ins and outs of this small mountain town which has much to offer.

We also use this day to test out personal equipment like trying out snow boots for the right size and getting our crampons ready. This is essential for the right equipment is the deciding factor between success and failure of your expedition.

Day 3: Manali (2,050M) to Chikka (3,175M)  (Click to View GPS data)

Distance: 20 kms + 4 kms

Duration: 1 hour drive + 2 hours trek

There’s no rush to leave today since it is a short day. We will be making our way to the large pastures of Chikka. To get there, we will need to drive up to the trail head – Khanol – which houses the Duhangan Hydro Project. The road to get to Khanol is not the best – you might want to eat light before the drive! It takes you in circles up 40 hairpin bends on loopy, kachcha, uneven mountain roads all the way till Khanol where all the expedition essentials will be loaded on mules. When the loopy road turns wavy, know that your drive is about to end. The trek from Khanol to Chikka is a short and pleasant walk along the Jagatsukh Nala through forested land all the way up to the open ground of Chikka.

Starting off by crossing a bridge over to the other side of the nala and patches through forested land, the trek to Chikka is mostly on flat terrain with a gradual incline and magnificent views in the background. The roughly marked trail which is easy to lose is a fair indication to the fact that the region does not receive a lot of footfall and is relatively raw as compared to other more popular trekking trails. Rife with fog, an assortment of fauna and random waterfalls that suddenly make an appearance along the trail, this trek is a walk in the park. The campsite is on the open pastoral land of Chikka, next to the noisy Jagatsukh Nala.

Day 4: Chikka (3,175M) to Seri (3,700M)  (Click to View GPS data)

Distance: 9 kms

Duration: 5 hours trek

We leave early after an early breakfast today, latest by 9 AM. We continue alongside the Jagatsukh Nala. The day’s trek starts with gradual ascent under the canopy of a thick forested land for the first one hour. After an hour, the forests starts to thin out to give way to Birch trees and finally some bushes and high altitude grasslands. You will be welcomed into the grasslands carpeted with the brightest wildflowers you will see! With a few patches of old snow and a few patches of boulders, the ascent up from 3,175M to 3,700M is gradual – a little steep for the few hours the gradient starts to go down after the 3 rd hour going down further at the end of the fourth hour with the land flattening out at the end of the fifth hour. The trail gets easier and the views get better due to a more open landscape. Walking alongside the nala , we pass a freshwater spring at Panduropa and Dudu Patthar until we reach the expansive grasslands at Seri with the Tainta cliffs towering to the left and the waterfalls crashing on the rocks below. We cross the zigzagging river twice to get to our campsite for the day. Remember to not let your shoes get wet while crossing the overzealous nala – remove them and hang them around your neck if that’s what it takes to keep them dry! We camp on the flatlands for the night with a massive waterfall right opposite the campsite.

We go for a one hour acclimatization walk in the early evening to get used to this new height. This is when we will see the dome of Deo Tibba for the first time.

Day 5: Seri (3,700M) to Tainta - Base Camp (4,480M)  (Click to View GPS data)

Distance: 4 kms

Duration: 4-5 hours

We leave between 9 and 10 AM to continue our walk on the flat meadows of Seri followed by a stream crossing. We then start our climb up a 200M steep serpentine trail which zigzags up through grasslands with patches of big boulders eventually getting to a moraine field. There is one small patch of glacier crossing on the serpentine trail which can get slippery and may require extreme caution. The vegetation starts to thin out and now turns to tufts of brown, dried up grass and we now enter a field alternating between rocks and patches of snow spread across its floor. The last one hour to get to the campsite is on an almost flat land with not much of an incline. The campsite will be chosen based on the amount of snow in the season and availability of a water source nearby. As you explore around the campsite you will realize that the dome of Deo Tibba is right opposite from you and the site also aesthetic views of Jagatsukh Peak as a bonus.

We go for an acclimatization walk in the evening.

Day 6: Rest and Acclimatization at Base Camp (4,480M)

Today is reserved for acclimatization to the altitude since we gained quite a bit of height in the last few days and have also entered a much different terrain. We will also use the day to go to nearby slopes and practice our climbing techniques and get comfortable with our mountaineering equipment in the actual terrain in which we will be using them. So there are two things on the agenda for today – disbursement of personal equipment and ration that each person will be carrying in their sacks and second is to test out and practice with all the gear on actual slopes.

We will also be doing a small prayer at the base camp today praying to the mountain gods for a safe and successful summit.

There is a small high-altitude lake named Chota Chandratal which is an hour’s hike away from the Base Camp. If the weather permits, it is quite a rewarding place to trek to for today’s acclimatization walk.

Day 7 – Day 12: Expedition. Click to View GPS Data:   (BC to Duhangan Col)   (Duhangan Col to Summit Camp)   (Summit Camp to Summit)

Since the conditions on high-altitude are unpredictable, there is a constant readjustment of plans to adapt to the situation at the time. Providing fixed day-wise schedules is thence tricky. Mt. Deo Tibba has 2 camps between base camp and the summit: Camp 1(5,100M), and Summit Camp (5,500M).

After the acclimatization routine suited to the conditions at the time and based on the rope fixing schedule as allowed by the weather, we occupy Summit Camp on Day 10, and will make our first summit attempt on Day 11. By Day 12, we aim to descend back down to Base Camp with an aim to depart from Manali by Day 13.

Base Camp (4,480M) to Camp 1 (5,100M): Camp 1 is at Duhangan Col and should take between 6-7 hours to get to. The route from Base Camp to Camp 1 starts on 30 degree slopes with a gradual incline to get to crampon point. Three and a half hours later, we reach the most difficult section of the climb which is a vertical ice gully with a gradient between 60-65 degrees. This section requires the use of fixed ropes and an ascender to climb. Camp 1 lies right on top of this gully which is likely to take between 2.5 to 3 hours to cross. The thrilling bit is that there is no place on the entire gully to take a break and rest yourself, which means that it is a patch of demanding and continuous ascent.

Camp 1 (5,100M) to Summit Camp (5,600M): There is yet another ice gully between Camp 1 and Summit Camp which needs to be navigated. Just as long as the one on the way to Camp 1, just as vertical and just as demanding, if not more. We hit the bottom of the gully two hours into the six hour climb to Summit Camp. We also encounter some very demanding patches of rock and a few knife ridges where the winds make it impossible to ignore your fear of falling on either side of the slippery trail.

Summit Camp (5,600M) to Summit (6,001M): The 400M to the summit from summit camp seem manageable after the two vertical ice gullies we crossed on our way to get here. The route to the summit is gentle humps, with the real challenge being the increasing altitude and the thinning air. There is one section that requires roping up with the rest of the route being gentle slopes.

Summit Camp (5,600M) Base Camp (4,480M): After returning from the summit push, we spend one night at Summit Camp – which is an open patch of land fully exposed to high speed winds. We head back down to Base Camp the next day which means navigating the knife ridges and the steep gullies one more time. Rappelling down this entire stretch should take us close to 5-6 hours. Expect to reach the sanctuary of your tents at Base Camp before sundown.

Day 13: Base Camp (4,480M) to Manali (2,050M) via Khanol (2,200M)

Distance: 18 kms + 20 kms

Duration: 5-6 hours trek + 1 hour drive

The last day of the trek involves tracing back our steps to where we started - from the Base Camp back to Manali through Seri and Chikka and eventually a drive back from our trailhead, Khanol. We start by 9 AM, so that we can reach a lower altitude as quickly as possible. The trek and drive included should take a couple of hours and reach us to Manali by early evening. Evening of the day is reserved for celebrating the joys and achievements of the last 12 days.

Day 14 and Day 15: Reserve Days

In case of bad weather or other difficulties which might set us off schedule during the course of the entire expedition, Day 14 and Day 15 are set as reserve days. These will only get used if unexpected and unforeseeable conditions present themselves at the last minute preventing us from reaching our destination as planned.

Small Group Size

Our batch sizes are capped at 15 for smaller treks with the trek leader and trekker ratio of 1:8. This ratio, in our years of experience, has proven to deliver the best trekking experience for individuals as well as groups. Capping the size of the group ensures individual attention to each trekker so that no signs of distress or need during the trek go unnoticed. It also helps to form a more cohesive cohort with better group energy which helps define the rhythm and pace of days on the trek. As you go higher up on the BRS scale, since the stakes are higher, expeditions have an even smaller group size with the ratio of expedition leader to climber set at 1:2.

Total distance – 17km – 4/5Hours journey

Mode of journey – 12 km by taxi 5km by foot

Altitude – Chikka– 3136m

Night stay – Our Camp site – on twin share basis

Himalayan Hikers will pick up the trekkers from Manali Bus Stand and leave for the early Bara Hazaar morning at around 6:00 to 7:00 am.

The first day will be the drive from Manali and trekkers will be dropped till the Bara Hazaar base camp.

Once we reach that base camp, we start the trek to Chikka Once you reach Bara Hazar, look for a Duahngan Dam Control Room, this will be situated towards the right of the valley connected with the help of a bridge.

As you will make your way across the bridge, a trail leading into the woods will stand there waiting for you to start. Follow this path and look for a bridge connecting towards the left side of the valley.

After you cross the bridge, be prepared to face steep climb for about 15 to 20 minutes which will then convert into an easier gradual walk.

Witness the captivating waterfalls and charming streams as you cross the trail reaching your very first camp base at Chikka.

While trekking there will be a lot of canopies and all which eventually lead you to beautiful meadows.

There will be a gradual ascent, hike through the meadows you will spot muddy houses, set your camp for the night here.

Day 2 : Trek from Chikka to Seri

Total distance – 6km –5/6 Hours journey

Mode of journey – By foot

Altitude – 3900

Night Stay – Our Camp site – on a twin share basis

Wake up to beautiful morning and mesmerizing sunrise. Walk around the meadow and feel the fresh air.

Start your day for the next base camp i.e. Seri trail commences after a straight walk through the forest which is well marked with stones and cairns throughout the way.

After you’ve walked for an hour, you will notice a stream and little ahead of the water lies a small segment of boulders. Usually, the rain showers tend to make these boulders slippers and crossing this segment becomes a little difficult when it’s pouring.

There also lies a very steep climb ahead as you cross the boulder section.

Make sure you have your eyes open when you are passing through and keep switching your steps and avoid straining your knees a lot.

After you are done trekking for around 3km, you will come across a meadow called Panduropa. Take some rest and fill up your water bottle before hitting on the trail.

After walking for an hour from Pandora you will again reach a boulder section but this will not be as difficult as the last time as the trail is pretty prominent here.

But make sure you cross the boulder slowly to avoid any chances of falls.

Once you reach Seri, you will be welcomed by vast lush meadows, huge mountains in the backdrop.

After the tiresome trek, enjoy the scenic beauty around and admire the scenery of Jagatsukh, Norbu and Malana Pass.

If you look closely, you can also get a faint view of Deo Tibba base camp from this point.

Call it a day after having a fulfilling dinner and sleep peacefully or you can also stargaze as long as you want.

Day 3 : Trek from Seri to Deo Tibba Base Camp

Trek Distance – 4km – (4/5Hours journey)

Altitude – 4171m

Night Stay – Our Camp site -on twin share basis

The next day is going to be an easy start as today you will be going to the Deo Tibba Base Camp.

This trail is very exciting. You will walk along the flowing river in the direction of a sparkling waterfall and after a point of time, you will be able to notice a cairn.

Cross the river when you reach this spot and continue to trace the trail.

After a while, you will notice a trail moving upwards, mind your steps closely from this point as the trail gets steeper for the next 2 to 2.5 hours.

As you reach the topmost point, soaking in the realms of nature will give you a sigh of relief embracing you with the beautiful escapade.

As you see around the place, you will not only be physically at peace but will also feel spiritual lightness and contentment from within.

From this point onwards till the next campsite, it is a simple trek that follows the bank of the river till the point where you reach big boulders, the trail ends there.

You will need to cross the river here and keep marching towards the meadows till you find an ideal spot where the tents will be pitched by us.

You will find multiple water sources available on your way, thus you can be flexible about your choice of spot to camp.

Day 4 : Trek from Deo Tibba Base Camp to Chota Chandartal back to Base Camp

Trek Distance – 2km (2/3hours Journey)

Night Stay – Camp site – on twin share basis

The trail to Chota Chandartal is very confusing and you will walk through sections of rock and moraine.

Begin your trek from the left of the small stream and take the steep climb you.

Switch-backing will make it easier for you to climb. There is no proper trail till Chota Chandartal, hence you have to find the route on your and believe in your guts.

Therefore, one way to find your way till Chota Chandartal is to move in the direction of Norbu Peak which usually will be the highest peak on your right when you walk upstream.

Along the trail, you’ll get to see Deo Tibba, Norbu and Jagatsukh peak respectively from your left. Keep walking and you will see the lake.

Follow the trail and keep walking for about 45 minutes to 1 hour and you will reach Chota Chandartal.

If you have energy there is Bada Chandartal which is bigger of the two lakes Get back to the base camp by the same route that you came up with.

However, this time you might find the trek a bit challenging. Descending can be hard on your knees.

Especially on a day like today when the terrain has rock, boulder and Morain section sections.

Day 5 : Trek from Deo Tibba to Seri

Total distance – 3km (3/4hours)

Altitude – 3136m

Night Stay – Our Camp site – on twin share basis

Start your day by waking up to the fresh air. Roam around the meadows followed by the crossing of the river. You will be heading back to the same route.

Be cautious while descending because the route is very steep.

If it rains the routes become very tricky so carefully walk and watch out for the boulders.

The descent is followed by a river crossing and then a walk through the grasslands towards the Seri Campsite.

Day 6 : Trek from Seri to Manali via Bara Bazar

Total distance – 8 km (5hours journey)

Altitude – 2700m

Today’s route is an easy one, you get back to Baara Hazar through the route you came up from. It takes 5-6 hours to reach Baara Hazar. The trail is moderate and there are moraines.

Also, there is a gradual descent through alpine forests. Himachal is the ultimate trekking destination of India and with an abundance of hidden gems and untouched precious spots that feels too good to be true.

Finishing Deo Tibba base camp trek will give you that experience of a lifetime where you will fall in unconditional love with nature.

Brief Itinerary

Detailed itinerary, day 1 : report to jagatsukh in manali; drive to khanol & trek to chikka.

The base for the Deo Tibba Base Camp Trek is scheduled at Manali. Report to Manali early in the morning. We tend to pick you up early in the morning from the Manali bus stand. Post breakfast and refreshments, we drive to Khanol via Jagatsukh village, which takes about an hour and a half. The drive from Manali to Khanol is not very long but scenic. We begin the trek from Khanol, and follow a gradually ascending trail through a dense pine forest, which leads us to the first campsite of our trek – Chikka. The whole trail is filled with diverse varieties of berries and flora. The breathtaking views of the Indrasen peak and the Spiti Valley will prove to be a delight for your eyes!

Overnight stay will be at Chikka base camp. Campfire and fun activities will be organized if the weather permits us to. Dinner will be served and then a cozy sleep will be arranged inside the tents so that you are completely refreshed to take up the challenges for the following day of the trek.

Day 2 : Trek from Chikka to Seri

The second day of the trek was quite challenging taking you through dense coniferous forests, the likes of which no other treks can beat. The altitude gain is quite considerable, which only adds to the thrill. Leaving behind the beautiful campsite of Chikka, we trail the path running beside the Jagatsukh river bank. The trek difficulty is moderate including few easy and level walk along with lots of ascents. Although there are a couple of water sources present in the trail, it is advised to carry 2 liters of water.

The trail re-enters the forest and is paved by beautiful wildflowers giving a path to an amazing landscape accompanies with boulders and grass. The altitude increases noticeably, and the tree line gradually falls behind as we approach Seri, a lovely meadow which used to house a glacial lake but now it is transformed into a large meadow with the company of an astounding variety of herbs and flowers. The campsite is crisscrossed by several streams gurgling past, with the backdrop of Tainta waterfalls. We camp here for the night in tents.

Day 3 : Trek from Seri to Tainta

We will start the day early after having a healthy breakfast at the Seri campsite. The third day of the trek incorporates a moderate level of difficulty including gradual and steep ascents. It is advised to carry 2 liters of water. You will find a few water sources down the day’s trail where you can replenish your water needs. We leave behind the campsite of Seri and leave for the campsite of Tainta. The trek begins with an easy walk over a flat ground of meadows, succeeded by a stream-crossing which lands us near the Jagatsukh Nala. From here on, the trail becomes steeper and is stretched over moraines and boulders. We soon reach our campsite, which is towered magnificently by the lofty Mt. Deo Tibba, which reveals itself for the very first time!

Spend the day resting and exploring around the campsite. Today, you will get a lot of time to rest and recuperate for the challenges that lie further ahead in our quest for the summit. Overnight camping will be set up in tents.

Day 4 : Trek from Tainta to Mini Chandratal and back

Finally, we have to be all set for the most-awaited and crucial day of the entire trek and hence it also gives rise to the most difficult day of the whole journey. So, brace yourself for an exhilarating day ahead.

A long day. We begin early post breakfast, and carry the day’s lunch in day packs. The trail is stretched over moraines still and is chaperoned by Deo Tibba in all its splendor. The climb gets steeper and steeper, before finally giving way to a beautiful alpine lake, also nicknamed ‘mini Chandratal’. Tons of wildflowers cover the vicinity of the lake. Witnessing the serene lake filled with emerald blue water will refrain you to return back from this mesmerizing place.

Explore around the lake, and head back to the Tainta campsite post-lunch. The descent takes a notorious turn as the route is covered in moraine and scree. It’s important to be more sure-footed in this region. We will reach Tainta by evening. Overnight camping at Tainta will mark the end of this beautiful day.

Day 5 : Trek from Tainta to Chikka

Early morning will mark the beginning of a beautiful sunrise so close that it will leave you wondering for a moment. We begin descending back to Chikka, following the same trail we took while ascending. Make sure that you have water bottles along with you. The trek is quite easy. We will break for lunch near Dudu Patthar, and reach Chikka.

Overnight stay will be in tents at Chikka campsite. We will have our dinner while cherishing some of the memories of the trek and then go to sleep for the last time on this unforgettable trek.

Day 6 : Finish the trek and Drive to Manali

Wake up early in the morning to catch the sunrise and for a fresh breath. This beautiful scenery and serenity of the place will surely restrict your return back into the chaotic world. Indulge yourself in clicking some sweet snaps which will act as a memory when you shall look back down the memory lane of your life. From this place, you can get clear snapshots of the beautiful Himalayan Ranges.

This will mark the last day of the trek where we will drive all the way to Manali from Khanol after descending down from Chikka campsite. Witnessing some alluring landscapes, we will reach Manali by 6 pm in the evening. If you wish to stay after the trek, you can also enjoy sightseeing in Kullu and Manali. There are many beautiful places such as Vashisht Temple, Hadimba Temple, Mall Road. You can enjoy adventure sports at Kullu such as Rafting and Bungee Jumping.

You can check your flight in the following links: 1.  https://www.google.com/flights  2.  https://www.makemytrip.com/flights/

To reach by road, you can take an overnight bus from Delhi to Manali or Chandigarh to Manali. Manali is well connected to cities by road. The roads are in good condition but there are sudden landslides in the monsoon season. The bus from Delhi to Manali can take up to 14 hours and from Chandigarh to Manali is 9 hours at least. I had the most wonderful experience trekking through the ranges of Chandrashila with Trekmunk. The small moments of achievement were phenomenal. Chandrashila is the most astonishing peak that I've ever trekked through; I've never been so fascinated. I think I am going to go for another trek with Trekmunk soon enough! The kind of hospitality that is provided to us is worth appreciating. I made many new friends and have enjoyed each and every day of this trek to its fullest.

I had an amazing trek with Trekmunk to Sandakphu November and December 2019. From the first moment of inquiry about the trek and all my questions were answered clearly and on time thanks to Dheeraj who managed to facilitate the trek quite well with his communication. Our guide Arpan was very experienced, calm, patient and very helpful to each trekker's needs in the group. He facilitated to find and hire a porter for me once I needed one although we were in the middle of the trail. He also arranged emergency transportation when I had to cut the trek and go back home for an urgent matter. I really enjoyed their service and I would like to repeat the same trek or try other treks with them again.

Traveling with these people is surely an insanely enthralling experience. This is my second backpacking trip with these people and the way I had imagined backpacking to be has been fulfilled by them and they have given me surely more. The best thing about travelling with these people is that you understand the true meaning of travelling and experience it very closely. You are given great freedom but at the same time taking care of. You participate in the process of backpacking. You have a trip leader with you but he acts more like a friend as the days pass by! We attended the hornbill festival and did a wonderful trek to Dzukuo valley in Nagaland with the leadership of this group. You break the boundaries of yourself when you travel like a true traveller and that is possible with these people.

We were a group of 12 friends and booked a trek to Kedartal with Trekmunk, it was an amazing experience..even though it was our first trek to the Himalayas and Kedartal being a difficult terrain trek we were guided excellently by the Trekmunk team. They served us nutritious food, took complete care of our safety and health and gave us the right advice to overcome AMS. Eagerly awaiting our next trek with them.

No words for the bike trip from Srinagar to Leh. One should experience it to feel it and all this because of the management of Trekmunk especially Mohit and Harshit whose efforts even made the hardest of the ride exciting adventurous and above all safe. Although some hindrances which are quite common like bike issues and medical problems arose with our co-riders, I liked the way these two guys handled it dexterously. I went with one of my best friends and came with a lot more and the trip turned out to be memories that can be cherished for a lifetime. Thanks, Team Trekmunk for giving me a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go on my next adventure with them.

Frequently asked questions and answers

Will i be refunded if i cancel a trek.

It depends on when you are cancelling it. This is our trek cancellation policy:

Total Refund: If cancelled a month before the beginning of the trek date.

75% cash refund: If cancelled 15 days before the start of the trek date.

50% cash refund: If cancelled within a week before the start of the trek date.

Why cancellation charges?

Because when a trek is booked, our team starts making arrangements like taking permissions from the local administrations to checking routes to setting up base camps etc. So, if a trek is cancelled nearer to the trek starting date, higher the cancellation charges or lesser the refund amount.

Do we cancel treks?

It’s extremely rare. The Wildcone will cancel a trek only and only due to extreme and unfavorable weather conditions or natural calamities or because of some other external factors like a government regulation etc which are not in our hands. We have not cancelled any treks so far. If we do, we will provide a voucher for the full trek amount. The voucher can be redeemed in any of our future treks.

What all do I need to bring along for a trek?

Depends from trek to trek. But a pair of good hiking shoes and warm clothes are a must for any trek. Once you have booked a trek, our team members will provide you all information and answer all your queries.

What’s the menu during a trek?

We serve three vegetarian meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — everyday on a trek. Consumption of alcohol is not allowed.

Why trek with the Wildcone?

Because your safety and a hassle-free experience is our top priority. And this is ensured by our seasoned professionals, who are the most trusted trekking guides in the Kullu valley having decades of experience in mountaineering.

    Region: Manali

Deo Tibba is a beautiful 6001 m. high peak situated in the Pir Panjal range of mountains in the Manali valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at Duhangan Nalla and Malana glacier. Deo Tibba consists of an extensive ice cap the actual climb being a snow hump accessible once the edge of the ice plateau is reached. It also has the beauty of being just over the 6000 m. high mark which is a great achievement for any climber. Trekking to the base of mighty peak is an ultimate experience. The base of this peak is about 4500m. At this height one can feel the low level of oxygen in the air, which can cause dizziness and distress while climbing to the base camp. The base is near to a lake called Chota Chandertal. Above the small lake there is located another lake similarly called Chandertal but with larger magnitude. One can have a sight of the Highest Peak in the Pir panjal rage. The atmosphere up here is incredible and unpredictable. You will feel like floating on the clouds as the fog come across the camp and pass above the valley below. The conditions are harsh with freezing temperature at such height realizing one with the effects of altitude and adverse weather. The further route can be seen from this point, mostly the Duhangan col. which is clearly visible from the Chota Chandertal, is the toughest test for the climbers at initial climb after the base camp. The route to base camp is magnificent. One would be splendid by the views that site across the trek. The waterfalls, beautiful meadows, big vast fields of pastures, meandering streams and the lush green wild forests on the trail are unmatchable experience.

This astonishing trek starts from Khanool village just 6 kms far from Jagatsukh. From  Jagatsukh to Khanol by taxi and then trek starts from Chhika. In couple of hours we reach at Chhika, a holy place for the locals where one can see the Nag devta (Snake deity) engraved naturally on the stone lying near to the place. The figure of the Nag Devta on the stone seems as it is actually climbing up to the forest. After all rest of the area offers great atmosphere.  After Chhika we hike up leaving treeline behind treading over the moraines till Pandu ropa. The Pandu ropa is also meant as a holy place. According to Hindu Mythology that Pandavas used to grow paddy at this point, as the name Pandu Ropa Suggests.  One can see paddy field on the way to the base camp. After Pandu ropa we reach Seri in 4-5 hours. Seri is a huge pasture ground surrounded by the peaks and waterfalls. Seri is a magical place where one will forget all the fatigue felt earlier on the trek. The vast green field has torrents and streams flowing along to it, creating a spectacular meandering landscape. The sunsets and the sunrises are often colorful here.  Seri to Tenta is about 3-4 hours. As climbing up to Tenta one has to cross the stream once and follow the stream on the left till Tenta , a grassy field below the lake. The scenery of valley below reminds one that how high they had come. After climbing hours one would feel less oxygen as approaching to the Tenta. The air gets thinner as we get near to Chota Chandertal.   It is a 3 or 4 day approach walk to base camp, till now one would have become well acclimatized to the atmosphere . The base camp is located near a glacier lake called "Chandra Tal" close to the main glacier that falls off the south-east face of Deo Tibba. This is at an altitude of 4500m/14850ft. It is quite a high base camp with the mighty Deo Tibba peak in the north and the Duhangan col. in front from the base. It is a decent trekking experience reaching up to the 4000m. altitude without any special efforts made. So one should do this trek and have a glimpse of the highest peak located in the Pir Panjal range.

    Things to Pack:

Travel by taxi till Khanool. The trek goes moderately into the woods. Trail takes you into wild forests, lush green meadows and to the spiritual place called Chhika. A figure of a snake engraved naturally on a stone near to the place, belongs to Hindu Snake God Nag Devta. It is truly a piece of art made by the Mother Nature, which really looks like a snake climbing towards the mountain. A Nag temple is also located in the vicinity of Chhika. There are also shelters to stay for the night.

Another mind blowing day with picturesque landscapes streams and waterfalls has to come. Today’s trail is gentle which passes by the Pandu Ropa in between and keeps going moderately. Seri is an outstanding place to camp with broad landscape, streams and waterfalls in front.  At Seri one can see the huge field of pasture which makes the campsite magical by its beauty. Seri is a vast pasture ground with the waterfall in front, streams flowing by, huge rocky mountains surrounding the sides of the site. Cherish the evening lights from the high altitude valley. Spend night gazing the stars at Seri.

The day starts with moderate walking followed by a stream. Then the trail consists of steep climb through boulders and leads to moraines.  After the steep climb trail is moderate with gentler gradient. In between a stream has to be crossed and following the stream will lead to Tenta. At Tenta majestic Deo Tibba can be seen with all its glory. The campsite has a picturesque landscape that one might be amazed of it. Spend a night at campsite.

Our trekking today is steep at initial, which will take us as higher as 4500m. , so the level of oxygen in the air decreases as altitude goes above 4000m. The base camp is at 4500m. So one might caught by mountain sickness. (dizziness, sensation of vomiting, headache  etc ). After a steep climb reach at high altitude lake with emerald blue water. Spend some time watching mighty Deo Tibba and explore around the Mini Chandratal then return back to the campsite at Tenta.

Retrace the way back to Chhika through beautiful meadows of Seri to boulders of Dudu Pather. Stay overnight in camps at Chhika.

Day 1 :  Drive from Manali to Bara Hazar and trek to Chikka

    • Altitude: 8858ft (2700m) to 10498ft (3200m)
    • Time taken: 2-3 hours of trek.
    • Total distance covered: 5 Km Approx.
    • Water Sources: Carry sufficient water bottles as there are plenty of waterfalls and streams along the trail to refill the bottles whenever required.
    • Accommodation and food: Tents in the camping ground of Chikka

The first day will include an initial drive of about from Manali to Jagat Sukh by bus for about 12.7 km which would take around 45 to 50 minutes to reach and then from there on, we will be arranging a vehicle towards the trekking point till the start of Bara Hazaar. Once you reach Bara Hazar, look for a Duahngan Dam Control Room, this will be situated towards the right of the valley connected with the help of a bridge.

The interesting thing about this trail is at certain points the whole trail cocoons and and gets covered with canopies making darker and greyer as walk past it but as you go ahead a few hundred meters or so, it opens up to the beautiful meadows. Once you walk ahead for a half an hour more through the closings, the trail opens up to a wide enchanting valley. After a gradual ascent and small hike through the meadows, you will spot a few muddy houses built alongside each other, set your camp for the night here.

Day 2 :  Chika to Seri

    • Altitude: 10498 ft (3136m) to 12795 ft (3900m)

Mornings at Chikka are such a delight to experience, the mesmerizing sunrise, and the cold breezy air that fills up your face. Have an early morning and begin walking towards your next stop for the day, Seri. The trail commences after a straight walk through the forest which is well marked with stones and cairns throughout the way. After you?ve walked for an hour, you will notice a stream and little ahead of the water lies a small segment of boulders. Usually the rain showers tend to make these boulders slippers and crossing this segment becomes a little difficult when it?s pouring. However, you can take gradual and steady steps while keeping your grip firm as you cross this segment to avoid any falls and slips. There also lies a very steep climb ahead as you cross the boulder section, make sure you have your eyes open when you are passing through and keep switching your steps and avoid straining your knees a lot.

After crossing a distance of around 3 km, you will reach a tiny meadow called Panduropa. There?s a water source here where you can refill your bottles and take a break for 5 to 10 to catch your breath for a few minutes before getting back to the trail. After walking for an hour from Pandora, you will again reach a boulder section but this will not be as difficult as the last time as the trail is pretty prominent here. But make sure you cross the boulder slowly to avoid any chances of falls. Once you have crossed the boulder section, your next campsite Seri will await surrounded by grassland, patches of sand and gigantic mountains in the backdrop. After the tiresome trek to Seri, spend your afternoon chilling and laying around the field while soaking in the beauty of neighboring peaks of Jagatsukh, Norbu and Malana Pass. If you look closely, you can also get a faint view of Deo Tibba base camp from this point. Call it a day after having a fulfilling dinner and sleep peacefully or you can also stargaze as long as you want.

Day 3 :  Seri to Deo Tibba Base Camp

    • Altitude: 12795 ft (3900m) to 13684 ft (4171m)
    • Time taken: 4-5 hrs
    • Total distance covered: 4 km

    • Accommodation and food: Tents in the camping ground of Deo Tibba basecamp

The next morning is going to be a considerably easy start with the lush grassy meadow of Seri. The pleasant sunrays will give you the much-needed warmth in the midst of the cold breeze that will hit your face. Today is the day we will be doing the Deo Tibba base camp and the trail will be one of the exciting ones so far.

From this point onwards till the next campsite, it?s a simple trek that follows the bank of the river till the point where you reach big boulders, the trail ends there. You will need to cross the river here and keep marching towards the meadows till you find an ideal spot where the tents will be pitched by us. You will find multiple water sources available on your way, thus you can be flexible about your choice of spot to camp.

Day 4 :  Deo Tibba Base camp to Chotta Chandartal and back to base

    • Altitude: 13684 ft (4171m) to 14698 ft (4480m) to 13684 ft (4171m)
    • Time taken: 2-3 hrs
    • Total distance covered: 2 km
    • Trek gradient: A modest climb through rocks & boulders. However, make sure you cross it slowly and gradually if it is raining or it has rained. The Boulders tend to get extremely slippery post rain showers.
    • Water sources: Make sure you have enough water when you leave from Seri itself as the glacier stream ahead is not reliable to classify as drinking water
    • Accommodation and food: Tents in the camping ground of Deo tibba base camp.

The next morning we will start with the trek towards Chota Chandratal. An enchanted lake surrounded by snow-covered peaks and situated at the altitude of 4500m is one of the well-kept secrets of the Himachal region.

The pathways to Chota Chandratal is a bit confusing as the walk passes through multiple sections of rocks and moraines. You can commence your trek from the left side of the small stream and take the next steep inclination which is slightly difficult. You will not find a proper laid out trail till Chota Chandratal, hence you will have to believe the navigation skills of the guide. However, if you move towards the direction of Norbu Peak which is the highest peak in the region, you will be able to find a pathway that walks upstream towards Chota Chandratal.

While you?re passing through the trail, you will get the visual treat of Norbu, Deo Tibba base camp and Jagatsukh peak in your left direction. After a few meters, you will reach towards the lake where you will start seeing the traces of the trail again. As you walk for about one hour following the same marked trail at a gradual steady pace, you will finally reach Chota Chandratal situated at the altitude of 4480 meters. If you are not too exhausted after reaching the camp, you can move ahead and explore the better parts ahead of Bada Chandratal which is bigger and more gorgeous than Chota Chandratal.

You can spend the rest of your time exhilarating the views of nature and soaking in all the fresh vibes of the surroundings. Once you are all through with the views of both the lakes, you can begin to descend using the exact same route that you came up from. The descending trail is a bit more difficult and tiresome as compared to the ascent. The route would be similar, however as you proceed further, the entire weight of your body falls heavy on the lower part of your body, straining your knees. Make sure you move slowly and steadily as you cross the rocky terrain, moraine and the boulder section to avoid any slips and injuries.

Day 5 :  Deo Tibba Base to Seri

    • Altitude: 13684 ft (4171m) to 10286 ft (3136m)
    • Time taken: 3-4 hrs
    • Trek gradient: Commence with an easy flat meadow walk followed by a slightly difficult steep descent down the rocks
    • Water sources: Carry 2 litres of water from Seri as there is no water source available till the Deo Tibba base camp.

Start your day with a hypnotizing sunrise and witness the sky unfold from dark blue to tangerine orange to bright blue as the sun shines above you. After a delicious hot piping breakfast served along with a hot cup of chai, commence walking towards the meadows followed by crossing the stream. You will be initially taking the same route which you took while coming up. Watch your step though as you move downwards, the descent might get really steep gradually. Avoid crossing the trail while it?s raining and be cautious while you cross the same post a shower as the boulders get extremely slippery and one wrong step can lead you to an aggressive fall. The decent is followed by crossing the river and opens towards a beautiful grassland that leads to the Seri campsite.

Day 6 :  Seri to Manali Via Baara Hazar

    • Altitude: 10286 ft (3136m) to 8858ft (2700m)
    • Time taken: 5hrs
    • Total distance covered: 8.6 km
    • Water sources: Carry 2 litres of water from Seri as you will find the water sources here, you can also refill your bottles at Panduropa & Chikka as you move ahead with the descent.
    • Trek gradient: Moderate and easy gradual descent through alpine forests, meadows passing through boulder section.

Trail description: Today is the last day of the trek as you will descend back towards Baara Hazar today from Seri campsite which was the starting point of your Deo Tibba base camp trek. As you follow the same trail while going down, the trek is going to be an easy one since it?s a walk on the plain grassland. It will take about 5 to 6 hours to reach Baara Hazar. About Deo Tibba

Deo Tibba is a beautiful 6001 m high peak in the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The Hindu religion believes that Deo Tibba is the assembly site of the Gods, and the Devtas are believed to sit on this peak, while the Lord of War & Weather (Indra), carries out a meeting from his throne Indrasan (6221 m). Indra is the controller of weather as well as the Lord of the Devtas (Gods). This is a very famous peak between climbers.

    Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Manali – Acclimatisation walk (2 – 3 hours) Manali is a hill station nestled in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh, near the northern end of the Kullu Valley on the banks of the river Beas. Manali is located in the Kullu district, about 270 km north of the state capital, Shimla, 309 km north east of Chandigarh and 544 km north-east of Delhi. This small town, with a population of 8096, is where the ancient trade route to Ladakh starts and it continues from there over the Karakoram Pass, to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin. It is a popular tourist destination and serves as the gateway to Lahaul, Spiti district and Leh.

Day 2: Manali –Jagatsukh – Chikha (3200 m) (8 km, Driving time 25 mins, hike duration 4 hours) After breakfast we will take cabs from Manali to Jagatsukh and drive to the end of Allain Dhuangan Power Project. After arrival you will start your hike on the trail that gradually ascends through thick pine forests along the narrow Allain Nullah valley. A packed lunch will be provided and there will be refreshment breaks on the way. At Chikha we will check into your campsite.

Day 3: Chikha – Seri (3600 m) (hike duration 5 – 6 hours) After breakfast we will start hiking towards Seri. Today’s trail is all uphill and mostly leads through birch forests. The campsite at Chikha is almost at tree line giving you some fabulous views. The first part of the trail winds through birch forests before opening on to the huge meadow at Seri. Our camp at the opposite end of the meadow is about an hour’s walk away.

Day 4: Seri–Chota Chandertal (Small Moon Lake) (4200 m) (hike duration 4 – 5 hours) The initial part of the trek is all flat and easy to walk until you arrive at a stream. After crossing the stream, the trail is uphill through boulders where we reach the moraine. Most of the trek is through moraine with some uphill stretches. The closed valley doesn’t offer many great views, but Deo Tibba stays with you all along. Chota Chandertal is a beautiful small mountain lake and our camp is situated close to the lake.

Day 5:  Chota Chandertal campsite (Base Camp of Deo Tibba Peak 4200 m) We will be spending today at Chota Chandertal, doing short walks and getting acclimatised to the altitude. Our team will be doing a load ferry to Camp 1 of the peak where all your climbing gear will be taken with rations and other equipment.

Day 6: Chota Chandertal base camp – Camp 1 (5000 m) (Climb time 5-6 hours)

Day 7: Camp 1 You will spend another day acclimatising to the altitude while an advance team will depart to fix rope on the Piton ridge. You will have an early night to get ready for the climb to the summit of Deo Tibba the next morning.

Day 08:  Summit attempt–Camp 1 (6001 m) (Climb time 6 – 7 hours) We will be starting the climb early morning at 4:00 am and we will be climbing through the Piton ridge and gully. Once we have crossed the gully, you will reach camp 1 at Indrasan Peak from there the summit approach to Deo Tibba will take 2-3 hours. You will have magnificent views of the Himalayan mountains, Lake, Lahaul and Spiti valley. After spending 15 minutes on top we will start descending to camp 1.

Day 09: Reserved Day for Summit Depending on the weather and other circumstances, this day is kept reserved in case we haven’t made it to the summit yet. The reserved day will be a chance for a second attempt.

Day 10: Camp 1 – Base camp Chota Chandertal (4200 m) (Descending time 4 -5 hours) After breakfast we will start our descent to base camp at Chota Chandertal, where we will stay the night.

Day 11: Base camp – Chikha (Trekking time 6 -7 hours) After breakfast we will start our hike down to Chikha where we will stay overnight.

Day 12: Chikha–Manali After breakfast we will start hiking down to the Allen Dhuangan project. On arrival we will take cabs to Manali where you can freshen up at your hotel. We will have a celebration today with campfire and dinner.
