On March 27, SM Entertainment announced the dates and locations for Red Velvet’s upcoming 2023 global tour “Red Velvet 4th Concert : R to V.”

Previously, Red Velvet announced their first concert in over three years at Seoul’s KSPO Dome held on April 1 and 2. After kicking off their world tour in Seoul, Red Velvet will travel to 10 cities across the globe for a total of 13 concerts in Singapore, Yokohama, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, and London.

This will mark Red Velvet’s first group concert in Europe. Following their world tour, Red Velvet will also attend the global music festival Primavera Sound 2023 in Spain as the only K-pop group to be invited. The festival will kick off on June 1 (local time), and Red Velvet will perform on June 8 in Madrid.

R ed Velvet ’s second of two concerts at Seoul’s KSPO Dome doesn’t conform to convention. Where most other groups typically adhere to the K-pop concert formula of performances punctuated by high-production VCRs, the SM Entertainment girl group mix things up and take a new approach.

Although the ‘R To V’ concert doesn’t reinvent the wheel entirely, it provides a striking and refreshing reset. As expected, a VCR does herald the start of the show, but such visuals are rare tonight (April 2). Instead, where those video breaks would be, the five-piece’s backing dancers take the stage, setting the tone for the next section of the concert with compelling choreography.

That initial VCR introduces the members in various settings until Wendy, standing between shelves of books, holds up a white card that reads: “Follow the white rabbit.” That phrase, it turns out, is both a reference to Alice In Wonderland and an invitation into Red Velvet’s own magical world. Once you fall down the rabbit hole, you’re greeted by dancers breaking out a performance titled “Alluring Velvet”, set to metallic synth sounds. It’s cool, gently intoxicating and incredibly elegant, highlighting the concept behind tonight’s show – and the group as a whole.

Since their debut in 2014, Irene, Wendy , Seulgi , Joy and Yeri have built their universe around a framework of two opposing ideas – bright and bold Red, and sophisticated, mature Velvet. Dividing the concert with that contrast gives it a different flow to most shows that soar up in energy and then dip, only to repeat that in a cycle until the end. Instead, ‘R To V’ goes up gradually, lifting from the dark club-pop of opener ‘Pose’ through the slinky, noirish ‘Zoom’ to a triple threat that closes the first half powerfully.

‘Peek-A-Boo’ begins the crescendo in infectious form before passing the baton to two of Red Velvet’s best songs, ‘Bad Boy’ and ‘Psycho’. Tonight, both are performed with dance breaks – ‘Bad Boy’’s comes at the start of the song, each member given their time to shine through beguiling moves while, in the middle of ‘Psycho’, the gothic pop sounds are replaced by an ethereal, skittering instrumental the stars dance along to.

After a second VCR depicting the idea of duality and a dance performance dubbed ‘Magical Red’ – in which the dancers take to the venue’s aisles, quite literally immersing the audience in the show – the concert shoots even higher. The group return to the stage as the digital screen behind them mimics a music box being opened, with Red Velvet its twirling figurines inside. Wearing pink tulle mini-dresses and black combat boots, they bring subtle edge to the Bach-sampling ‘Feel My Rhythm’ , while ‘Ice Cream Cake’ is pure joy it’s hard not to get carried away with. ‘Red Flavor’ – another candidate for RV’s greatest hits – wraps up the main set in a burst of vibrant pop perfection, the members embodying its sweet, colourful spirit in their performance.

Regardless of which mood the group are meant to be portraying, throughout tonight’s concert they consistently deliver stunning vocals, flawless choreography and sheer professionalism. The dreamy ‘Eyes Locked, Hands Locked’ is one of many tracks that gives the five-piece a chance to impress with their rich, diva-worthy voices, while not even technical issues are able to throw them off their A-game. When the women are standing in their ballerina poses waiting for ‘Feel My Rhythm’ to begin, the first notes of ‘BAMBOLEO’ start to ring through the sound system instead. Rather than lose focus, they remain frozen and unfazed until the problem is solved, and start the performance as if nothing happened.

It’s also clear that, after three years since their last full concert, Red Velvet are thrilled to be back on stage together – and as a whole group. This weekend marks not just their first headline shows since before the pandemic, but their first as five since 2019 – Wendy was absent for 2020’s ‘La Rouge’ dates after fracturing her pelvis and wrist during an accident in rehearsals for the 2019 SBS Gayo Daejun . Their enthusiasm radiates through each song and, during the pauses in between, emotions run high. “I’m going to try not to cry,” Yeri promises, referring to her sobs the night before. When a fan project that turns the audience into a heart-filled message of love to the group is revealed moments later, Joy begins to wipe away her own tears.

Tonight might be the last of this run of shows in Seoul for the group but, on a larger scale, it’s just the beginning. The ‘R To V’ tour is set to continue through Asia and Europe over the coming months, with the women promising more dates around the world to come on stage. As they continue on their travels across the globe, Red Velvet will carry on carving out their own path to excellency.

On March 3, SM Entertainment announced, "' Red Velvet 4th Concert: R to V ' will be held from April 1-2 at the KSPO Dome in Seoul for two spectacular days."

On March 27, SM Entertainment has took off the veil on Red Velvet's upcoming world tour, "Red Velvet 4th Concert: R to V." The group disclosed new details for their concerts, which will mainly focus on their stops across the globe.

Initially, on March 3, SM Entertainment revealed that Red Velvet will kickstart their tour with a two-night concert at Seoul's KSPO Dome. The concert will be held on April 1 at 6 p.m. KST, and April 2 at 4 p.m. KST.

MANILA, Philippines – While K-pop girl group Red Velvet is no stranger to the Philippine concert scene, it’s surprising that the “Psycho” hitmakers only staged a solo concert in Manila in 2023 – almost nine years into their career. 

Filipino ReVeLuvs have long been clamoring for the cake girls (fans’ affectionate term for the group) to come to the Philippines for a solo show, and when their requests were finally granted, they made sure to pull out all the stops for it to be a spectacular event both for the artists and the fan community. 

Leading up to the May 7 concert, fans went above and beyond to make a festive occasion out of it – painting the nearby areas of the Mall of Asia Arena complex red and black with fan projects as a way to welcome the group. Their efforts paid off when the Red Velvet members shared photos of their tarpaulins and other fan-led initiatives on their social media accounts. 

R to V in Manila was a long time coming and it was only natural for ReVeLuvs to feel exhilarated days prior to the concert, but their excitement got affected by the announcement of Joy’s hiatus due to health concerns. While understandably saddened by not seeing all of the members, fans took it in stride and made sure that Joy would still be celebrated during the show.

The atmosphere around the concert venue already felt like a festival on its own, but the attendees’ excitement was made even more palpable inside the arena. The crowd exchanged cheers of “Re-deu” and “Vel-vet” even before the show officially started. 

The back-up dancers then appeared onstage to do ballet – a signal that the show had started. The crowd then erupted in loud cheers when Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Yeri – all dressed in beautiful pink embellished dresses – made their grand entrance to “Feel My Rhythm.” 

Fans were captivated when Red Velvet continued their opening set with lively performances of “Bamboleo,” “LP,” and “Ice Cream Cake.” “Manila, we are ready to party with you,” member Seulgi said. Filipino ReVeLuvs were also treated to videos of Joy during her parts in the performances. 

The ladies then went for a quick outfit change and returned onstage in their signature colors: pink for Irene, yellow for Seulgi, blue for Wendy, and purple for Yeri. The group then showcased their vocal prowess by serenading the crowd with tracks “Oh Boy,” “On A Ride,” and “Eyes Locked Hands Locked.”

Red Velvet then upped the ante with performances of “Queendom,” “Bing Bing,” “Birthday,” and the crowd favorite “Red Flavor.” 

It was only halfway through the show and the members were already quick to notice the projects prepared by Filipino ReVeLuvs. During the “Eyes Locked Hands Locked” number, a banner that read “I will always be by your side” rolled down, while the attendees prepared a green-light ocean, Joy’s signature color, during the “Bing Bing” performance. Seulgi shared she almost got teary-eyed seeing the tarpaulin and Yeri promised that they would tell Joy about the green ocean.

There was a switch in atmosphere when Red Velvet, now decked in alluring black ensembles, returned onstage to perform “Pose.” Not giving ReVeLuvs any time to catch their breath, they continued the set with dynamic performances of “Beg for Me,” “Zoom,” “Bye Bye,” “In & Out,” and “I Just.”

There was no denying Red Velvet’s stunning visuals, but it was their impeccable stage presence that really enthralled the crowd. Their performances of “Peekaboo,” “Bad Boy,” and “Psycho” drew some of the loudest cheers for the night, especially as it featured solo dance breaks from the members. 

Known for having opposing concepts – fun and upbeat Red, and sophisticated and sensual Velvet, the group’s versatility shone in the R to V concert. Filipino ReVeLuvs were treated to an almost three-hour show that featured Red Velvet’s diverse discography, flawless choreography, and clean vocal runs. 

Filipino ReVeLuvs sang every word in all the songs and chanted all of the members’ names throughout the show. Their enthusiasm did not go unnoticed by the members. 

“You are cheering for everything, I was blown away. Because of your cheering, I got so excited,” member Wendy said in English. “The concert is almost over. How can you have this energy for two hours? You guys are amazing. Thank you for all the love and support. Because of the love you guys sent us today, I wanna really come back – the five of us including Joy.” 

Member Seulgi said that they will return to South Korea with good memories from their Filipino ReVeLuvs: “I love you guys so much.” Meanwhile, Irene added that she couldn’t match the energy from the Manila crowd as it was even “louder than the World Cup.” “I was very happy because of you guys,” she added. 

“You have so much energy,” Yeri told the attendees. “Thank you for the loudest reaction and biggest energy. Really see you soon again. We love you guys.”

The Filipino ReVeLuvs were unstoppable in showing their love for the group. During the encore set, they prepared banners that read, “I want to be forever, in this dream-like night” and “Enchanting feeling, I’ll never forget everything,” as well as an OT5-colored ocean. Each section in the arena had designated colors to flash, one for each of the members. 

Red Velvet expressed their gratitude to the Filipino ReVeLuvs, who they said prepared the most fan projects so far. 

There was no sign of winding down, though, when the group performed “Russian Roulette” and “Zimzalabim.” It was obvious how Red Velvet and the ReVeLuvs were just volleying energy off each other – prompting everyone to be up on their feet, screaming their lungs out, and dancing along. Seulgi even requested for the crowd to jump more in their next song. 

“I’m very overwhelmed,” Wendy said about Filipinos’ cheers. “That is why my heart is beating so fast. Thank you so much for making us feel these overwhelming feelings. Mahal kita (I love you).
