The confines of the master suite are arguably a little bit tight, but that’s just to make room for more sleeping and living space in the rest of the travel trailer.

In the back of the 2021 Forest River Cherokee 274 DBH, you will find stacked double beds in a bunkhouse configuration.

There’s even a very convenient ladder to get to the top bunk. The U-shaped dinette and the Sofa also convert into reasonably comfortable sleeping space.

You can opt for either the dinette or dual recliners, the latter of which are very comfortable. As a light sleeper, the 16BHX is a fantastic option for smaller family sizes or even for couples that like to host guests from time to time.

The last travel trailer with bunk beds is as good as the first. The Keystone Bullet 211BHSWE features a three-year warranty on the exterior, which is always a good thing. Some significant tech also went into this model, including the Hyperdeck flooring, Blade A/C ducting system, and the SolarFlex package.

The interior is fairly spacious, with a queen bed up front, double bunks in the back, optional storage in place of one of the bunks, and a spacious bathroom that includes a tub. There’s not much counter space to work with in the kitchen. However, you also have the exterior kitchen when it’s time to cook big meals for a large family.

Can Adults Sleep On RV Bunk Beds?

For the most part, adults can sleep on RV bunk beds, especially when they are double beds. Most doubles are about 74″ long, which is enough for someone 6′ 2″ tall to stretch completely out. Double bunks are also wide enough to move around without falling off the bunk.

Twins are a little more difficult, but it can still be done. Of course, a grown adult may be a little more uncomfortable in a twin bunk, depending on size, weight, and height. For those adults out there who can literally sleep anywhere, bunks are far from an issue.

Can I Pull a 7,000 lb Travel Trailer With Bunk Beds?

You can pull a 7,000 lbs. travel trailer with bunk beds with a full-size SUV or half-ton pickup truck. The examples we presented have a GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) between 6,000 and 7,000 pounds. This is different from an RV with a dry weight (a.k.a. Unloaded Vehicle Weight/UVW) of the same weight.

An RV with a 7,000 lbs. dry weight means that the coach weighs that much when it’s empty. When you fill it with fresh water, your camping gear, food, clothing, and passengers, the total Gross Vehicle Weight (filled-up weight) could be as high as 9,000 pounds or more.

The GVWR is the RV manufacturer’s rating (and various governing agencies) that tells everyone what the safest maximum weight the rig can hold (the keyword is “safe”). One of my favorite memories growing up as a young kid was hitting the road with my family on the weekends and camping in the beautiful green back forest of Oregon. That isn’t to say that it was all sunshine and bluebirds. There were some nights that were rather uncomfortable, and I longed for the comfort of my own bed. It would have been perfect if at the time we had a trailer with a nice set of bunk beds. Below in this post are the best travel trailers with bunk beds that I wish I had growing up. Trailer Overview

Coleman has been around for awhile now. They have had since the year 1900 to work out the logistics of their operations, and to understand the best way to fulfill their obligations to their customers. They have done pretty well. Overall, they have a good reputation for producing what are considered quality products that suit the entry or luxury class to which that particular RV is ascribed. As for the Lantern series, Dutchmen has remained consistent in their approach. Perusing the internet forums, you will find a relatively satisfied customer base. Looking through the floor plans, you will find a large selection of bunkhouse layouts. If their claims are true, Palomino offers the largest selection of bunkhouses in the industry. They have also made the claim that they have a “multitude” of standard features, and I have found that to be true as well (As you can see from the snippet above).

As with almost every RV out there, the craftsmanship is more than questionable. Reports of screws falling out and glued areas needing re-gluing are fairly common. However, I’m not coming across reports of anything serious falling apart. I’m finding a lot of people happy with this line of campers.

The more popular the brand, the more prolific the complaints. Browsing through the complaint sites, you will find many unhappy customers. However, according to polls and forums, Keystone is a decent manufacturer. According to one poll, 90% of the Keystone customer base would purchase a Keystone again which is a stunningly good percentage.

This is a budget class of travel trailers, but it doesn’t act like it. When the compliments are much easier to find than the complains; you’ve probably got something good happening. At least, that’s the case in the RV world. floor plans are well-designed, I’m finding pretty consistent customer service, and good warranty response.

Crossroads is one of the many subsidiaries of the Thor company collective. Thor started in 1980, and it has grown dramatically. The range of the RV quality varies, but the Crossroads Zinger has some pretty good feedback.

As far as budget class travel trailers go, relatively speaking, these are solidly built with good quality control. Most warranty problems seem to come to reasonable resolutions. They have some lightweight models (Less than 5,000 Pounds), so the weaker tow vehicles have some options.

6. Jayco Jay Fight SLX

Jayco trailers has been around for half a century, and like Thor, has built an empire. The SLX’s are one of many model lines, and one of its standout features is its lightweight floor plans. If you are interested in the lighter weight plans, you should be aware of the floors. Some floor plans have composite flooring and some have plywood. It has been noted that the Jayco’s composite flooring can develop soft spots, and that the plywood floors don’t have that issue.

Aside from the composite flooring, it has a good reputation. There are some expected durability issues and those, of course, become bigger issues as “lightweight” becomes the highlight feature.

Inconsistent quality is a pretty big problem. Some reviews are shining and others are not. Looking through reviews and forums, customer service does not appear to be great. Multiple owners have reported having difficulty getting through to the company and some say that the calls are never returned.

There are two versions the Voltage Line. There is the Voltage line and then there is the Voltage Epic line. Both of them offer the bunk bed feature, but we are just going to focus on the Basic Voltage line for today.

The more I look into Dutchmen, the more I like them. Out of the many manufacturers that I have researched (50+), they are one of the most consistently praised by their patrons. I’m not getting paid to say that; It is just what I have noticed.

Considered to be medium-level quality trailer with a relatively pleased customer base. It is lightweight, so there will be a drop in overall durability. The most prolific issues seem to be with the roof, so do a thorough inspection of the ceiling before purchasing if this line of trailers interest you.

The 320BHDS has been noted to have a “design flaw” that ruins the floors with water when driving through hard rain. It appears to be an issue with that specific model, so be aware of that. The year was unspecified.

Coachmen was purchased by Forest River in 2008, and some have expressed concern about a potential drop in dependability. However, the quality hasn’t appeared to be negatively affected, and overall, they seem to be maintaining a level of quality that is competitively consistent.

Good construction, good interior storage, and wide-bodied; those are the kinds of comments that I have been coming across. I’m not finding a lot of bad reviews with this one. This line of trailers has an uncommonly positive level of feedback

Forest River is a budget class RV, so I’m not going to lie and say that everything is fantastic. The sealant will need to be replaced, screws are going to pop out, and parts will eventually fall into disrepair. You should do your research, so that you know what you should expect from an RV within this price range. After accepting that these lower-priced RVs are going to be problematic, you will know whether or not you should pay for something a bit higher up on the RV food chain.

So, why am I recommending it? Honestly, it isn’t a horrible starting point. If you aren’t ready to buy a mid-to-high range RV, then this is a good early step. It will serve you provided that you are also ready to serve it with a little elbow grease and a little more know-how.

Specifications Definitions

GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) – is the maximum permissible weight, including cargo, fluids, optional equipment and accessories that can be safely supported by a combination of all axles.

UVW (Unloaded Vehicle Weight)* - is the typical weight of the unit as manufactured at the factory. It includes all weight at the unit’s axle(s) and tongue or pin and LP Gas. The UVW does not include cargo, fresh potable water, additional optional equipment or dealer installed accessories. *Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

CCC (Cargo Carrying Capacity)** - is the amount of weight available for fresh potable water, cargo, additional optional equipment and accessories. CCC is equal to GVWR minus UVW. Available CCC should accommodate fresh potable water (8.3 lbs per gallon). Before filling the fresh water tank, empty the black and gray tanks to provide for more cargo capacity. **Estimated Average based on standard build optional equipment.

Each Forest River RV is weighed at the manufacturing facility prior to shipping. A label identifying the unloaded vehicle weight of the actual unit and the cargo carrying capacity is applied to every Forest River RV prior to leaving our facilities.

The seller purchased this unit from POP earlier in 2022 and used it to move from Louisiana to Florida. It was lived in for a few weeks until his property purchase. The E-Pro is stored beside the garage where it is connected to electric power. It was only moved to the grassy area for photos then unfortunately, it rained for several days. IT IS NOT STORED IN WET AREA. This travel trailer is in good condition and well taken care of. Service and maintenance records are available. According to the seller, all systems are in working order. She is ready for her new owner to hook up and hit the road. Stock #307893 Everything you need in a compact camper. Either at a campground or boondocking, this unit provides much comfort in a compact camper. Sleeping includes the dinette sleeper and the jack knife sofa or Murphy bed. The galley area is highly efficient and very well thought out, with a three-burner gas stove, domestic refrigerator, microwave and sink. The bathroom doesn't skimp on space with a tub shower, medicine cabinet, sink, toilet and generous storage. The unit is easy to keep clean, and storage is excellent for a 19-ft. trailer. The WI-Fi booster is great if you are far from the campground router. The radio hooks up to the TV for Stereo and also has external speakers for gatherings under the Awning. Top it all off with a roof-mount solar panel with 1000 Watt converter. Reason for selling is no longer using.

Heavy-duty latches or bungee cords are a good way to double-secure the bed when the trailer’s in motion.

A Murphy bed is a great option if a small trailer is what you can afford, tow, or prefer. You get a lot of extra daytime space when you fold the bed up.

Most Murphy beds in the models we mentioned have a couch that’s revealed when the bed is folded up. The bed only takes up space when you’re using it. Otherwise, you’ll have room for seating, dining, or just extra space to move around.

The negatives of a Murphy bed include no privacy, which would certainly factor in when children and guests are around. Of course, you must put up the bed in the morning and put it down again at night. This process doesn’t take long but could be a turn-off for some people.

In general, travel trailers with Murphy beds are a great option for many RV lifestyles.
