Individuelle Anreise nach Paris und Einschiffung. Um 16.00 Uhr heisst es «Leinen los!» Richtung Conflans-Ste-Honorine. Willkommens-Apéro und Abendessen an Bord.

2. Tag Conflans-Ste Honorine

Am Vormittag steht ein Ausflug (2) zum imposanten Schloss Chantilly auf dem Programm. Nach zahlreichen Umbauten begeistert die barocke Anlage mit ihrem grossen Schlosspark die Besucher:innen. Geniessen Sie am Nachmittag die Fahrt Seine abwärts Richtung Rouen und die Annehmlichkeiten an Bord.

Ausflug Schloss Chantilly

Die einst mittelalterliche Burg wurde schon im 16. Jahrhundert zu einem prächtigen Renaissance-Schloss verwandelt. Auch die Herzöge von Condé, die von 1643 bis 1830 hier residierten, nahmen zahlreiche bauliche Anpassungen vor. Daraus entstand eine barocke Anlage mit 115 Hektar grossem Schlosspark, welche bis heute begeistert. Neben den Anlagen im französischen Stil mit Fontänen und riesigen Wasserbecken gibt es einen Englischen Garten, einen englisch-chinesischen Garten, einen Nachbau eines Bauerndorfs sowie einen kleinen Wald. Berühmt ist Chantilly aber auch für seine Gemäldesammlung und sein Reitgestüt.

3. Tag Rouen–Le Havre

Rundgang (1) mit anschliessender Käseverkostung durch die charmante Hauptstadt der Normandie, welche von Victor Hugo auch als «Stadt der hundert Kirchtürme» bezeichnet wurde. Am Nachmittag Fahrt nach Le Havre. Geniessen Sie die beschauliche Fahrt auf dem Weg zum Ärmelkanal.

Rundgang Rouen mit Käseverkostung

Rouen, die Hauptstadt der Normandie, ist eine der schönsten mittelalterlichen Städte und Schauplatz vieler bedeutender Ereignisse im Laufe der Jahrhunderte. Dominiert wird das Stadtbild von den Türmen der Kathedrale Notre-Dame, die der impressionistische Künstler Claude Monet in zahlreichen Gemälden verewigt hat. Die Kathedrale wurde kurzzeitig zum höchsten Gebäude der Welt, als im 19. Jahrhundert der hohe Turm hinzugefügt wurde. Sie ist auch für die liegende Statue bekannt, die angeblich das Herz von Richard Löwenherz enthält. In der kopfsteingepflasterten Fussgängerzone sind rund 700 mittelalterliche, verschachtelte Fachwerkhäuser erhalten, welche der Stadt einen speziellen Charme verleihen. Die verwinkelten Gassen werden gesäumt von Antiquitätengeschäften, geschmackvollen Boutiquen und natürlich unzähligen Restaurants. Auf der Place du Vieux-Marché markiert ein​ grosses Kreuz den Punkt, an dem die Jungfrau von Orléans, Jeanne d'Arc, wegen ihres Glaubens auf dem Scheiterhaufen verbrannt wurde. Im Anschluss an den Rundgang werden Sie zu einer Degustation von typisch französischen Käsen eingeladen.

4. Tag Le Havre

Am Vormittag Ausflug (1) nach Honfleur. Schöne Fachwerkhäuser und charmante Gassen sowie das alte Hafenbecken verleihen dem Hafenstädtchen Honfleur ein unverwechselbares Flair. Am Nachmittag Ausflug (1) nach Le Havre und Étretat. Der Stadtkern von Le Havre mit seiner charakteristischen Betonarchitektur steht im Kontrast zu den imposanten Kreidefelsen bei Étretat.

Ausflug Honfleur

Die Normandie-Brücke überspannt die Flussmündung und verbindet Le Havre mit Honfleur. Schöne Fachwerkhäuser und charmante Gassen sowie das eindrucksvolle alte Hafenbecken verleihen dem Hafenstädtchen ein unverwechselbares Flair. Während des Stadtrundgangs erfahren Sie viel über dessen Geschichte und das Leben der Fischerfamilien. Sie besuchen das malerische alte Hafenviertel, das sich seit dem 17. Jahrhundert kaum verändert hat und mit bis zu sieben Stockwerke hohen Häusern am Kai imponiert.

Ausflug Le Havre und Étretat

Le Havre ist ein wichtiger Hafen in der Normandie und der zweitgrösste Frankreichs. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde das stark beschädigte Stadtzentrum vom berühmten Architekten Auguste Perret umgestaltet. Der Stadtkern mit seiner charakteristischen Betonarchitektur ist 2005 zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO erklärt worden. 20 Kilometer nördlich von Le Havre, am Meeressaum der Normandie, erstreckt sich die Küstenlandschaft von Étretat. Die Kreidefelsen der Alabasterküste zogen Maler, Schriftsteller und den Komponisten Offenbach in ihren Bann. Historisch ein Fischerdorf mit mittelalterlichen Häusern wurde Étretat im 19. Jh. ein beliebter Badeort.

5. Tag Le Havre–Caudebec–Rouen

Am Vormittag Ausflug (1) «Strasse der Klöster» ab Caudebec mit Besuch der eindrücklichen Ruinen der Klöster St. Wandrille und Jumièges. Am Mittag Weiterfahrt nach Rouen, wo das Schiff am frühen Abend eintrifft und über Nacht liegen bleibt. Nutzen Sie nochmals die Gelegenheit für einen Spaziergang im hübschen Städtchen.

Ausflug «Strasse der Klöster»

Mehr als 100 Klöster bedeckten einst diese Region. Folgen Sie dem lokalen Experten nach St. Wandrille und Jumièges, welches von Victor Hugo als eine der schönsten Ruinen in Frankreich beschrieben wurde. Beide Sehenswürdigkeiten gehören zu einer Gruppe von renommierten Merowinger Abteien in der Normandie, die später zu herzoglichen Klöstern wurden. Die Abtei St. Wandrille wurde im Jahr 649 vom ehemaligen Minister des Königs Dagobert I. gegründet und heute ist noch die alte Kirchenruine für Besucher geöffnet. Entdecken Sie auch eine kleine, charmante Kapelle und den Friedhof der Mönche. Weiter geht es nach Jumièges. Der erste Anblick der Überreste der gewaltigen Klosterkirche in der grünen Umgebung ist unvergesslich. Die Abtei wurde im Jahr 654 von Saint Philibert, einem Höfling am Hof von König Dagobert I. gegründet und im Jahr 841 von den Wikingern und erneut während des Hundertjährigen Krieges zerstört. Die Überreste des Klosters und der Klostergebäude werden von eindrucksvollen Doppeltürmen mit einer Höhe von 150 Metern dominiert.

6. Tag Rouen–Vernon

Geniessen Sie am Vormittag die Flussfahrt auf der Seine und lassen Sie die idyllischen Landschaften an sich vorbeiziehen. Am Nachmittag Ausflug (1) nach Giverny zum Haus und den Gärten von Claude Monet. Am Abend startet die letzte Flussetappe zurück nach Paris, wo das Schiff am Morgen anlegt.

Ausflug Giverny - Monets Garten

Der Maler Claude Monet machte die Gemeinde Giverny am rechten Ufer der Seine mit seinen Gemälden weltberühmt. Er lebte hier von 1883 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahre 1926. Wie schon zu Zeiten Monets kann sich der Besucher dem Charme des japanisch inspirierten Gartens mit seinen Teichen und der viel gemalten Brücke nicht entziehen. Hier liess sich der Meister zu seinen bekanntesten Werken inspirieren. Der Künstler selbst bezeichnete seinen Garten als sein «schönstes Meisterwerk» und er ist mit Sicherheit einer der meist fotografierten und gemalten Gärten der Welt.

7. Tag Paris

Auf der Rundfahrt (1) durch Paris erhalten Sie einen vielseitigen Einblick in Frankreichs pulsierende Hauptstadt. Der Nachmittag steht für eigene Erkundungen in der Weltmetropole zur Verfügung.

Paris gehört mit seinen unzähligen kirchlichen und weltlichen Bauwerken, Strassen, Plätzen und Parks sowie der Uferpromenade der Seine zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Es zählt aber weltweit auch zu den führenden Zentren für Kunst, Mode, Gastronomie und Kultur. Das Stadtbild ist u.a. geprägt von breiten Boulevards, der Kathedrale Notre-Dame, der Place de la Concorde mit dem Obelisken von Luxor, den Champs Elysées, dem Arc de Triomphe und natürlich dem Eiffelturm, dem «eisernen» Wahrzeichen der Stadt. Die MS Gloria wurde 2005 gebaut und zuletzt im Winter 2022/23 renoviert. Das komfortable Schiff bietet seinen 152 Gästen reichlich Platz in den geschmackvoll eingerichteten Gesellschaftsräumen und auf dem Sonnendeck. Begeben Sie sich mit der MS Gloria auf eine Reise gefüllt mit Wohlfühlmomenten und Genuss. Auf dem Komfortschiff können Sie sich voll und ganz Entspannen. Geniessen Sie die wunderschöne Aussicht vom Sonnendeck aus, währenddem Sie sich auf einem Liegestuhl einen Drink gönnen. Lassen Sie sich von den Köchen an Bord im Restaurant kulinarisch verwöhnen und gönnen Sie sich nach einem ereignisreichen Tag eine Auszeit im Wellnessbereich in der Sauna oder im Dampfbad. Im Panorama-Salon können Sie gemütlich Ihren Kaffee oder Drink geniessen, während Sie die vorbeiziehende Landschaft beobachten. 

Alle Kabinen (ca. 14 m 2 ) und Juniorsuiten (ca. 17 m²) liegen aussen, sind komfortabel und stilvoll eingerichtet. Auf dem Mittel- und Oberdeck mit französischem Balkon, auf dem Hauptdeck sind die kleineren Fenster aus Sicherheitsgründen nicht zu öffnen. Alle Kabinen sind mit Dusche/WC, Föhn, Kühlschrank, Nespressomaschine, Safe, TV/Radio und individuell regulierbarer Klimaanlage ausgestattet.

Restaurant/Küche

Im grosszügigen Restaurant, in welchem alle Passagiere gleichzeitig Platz finden, erwartet Sie jeden Morgen ein reichhaltiges kaltes und warmes Frühstücksbuffet. Mittags und abends zeigt Ihnen die Küchenmannschaft mit mehrgängigen Wahlmenüs und mit schönen Buffets, was sie zu bieten hat. Die kulinarische Krönung jeder Reise ist das Gala-Dinner.

Charming river cruises with the edelweiss, edelweiss – life on board.

The Edelweiss has a total of four decks, of which the three cabin decks are connected by a lift. Two restaurants on board spoil the ship's passengers daily with multi-course menus and various buffets. Guests on the main and middle decks dine in the Jungfrau restaurant, while upper deck passengers dine in the Matterhorn restaurant, which features large panoramic windows. In addition, all guests have the option of enjoying a light buffet lunch in the Panorama Lounge. The Gala Dinner is the culinary highlight of any river cruise.

Passengers can relax in the elegant Panorama Salon and Lido Bar and engage in stimulating conversation with fellow passengers. A breathtaking view is offered by the extensive and partly covered sun deck with numerous deck chairs, seating areas and putting green. A small swimming pool is also available for cooling off on hot summer days.

Edelweiss – Cabins

The tastefully furnished cabins have a bathroom with shower and WC, hairdryer, flat-screen TV, refrigerator, in-house telephone and air conditioning. The cabins on the upper and middle deck also have a French balcony, while the cabins on the main deck have non-opening windows.

Die Flussschiffe von Thurgau Travel sind klein, aber oho

Thurgau Travel setzt vor allem in deutschen Fahrgebieten auf kleinere Schiffe, um spannende Regionalflüsse erkunden zu können. Die Schiffe bieten eine familiäre Atmosphäre und die Ausstattung der Kabinen ist nicht geringer als bei vielen größeren Schiffen der Mitbewerber.

Thurgau Travel

Die Thurgau Chopin ist eines der Boutique-Schiffe, mit denen Thurgau Travel Nebenflüsse und schmale Wasserstraßen befahren kann

Kabinengrößen: Bei Schiffen wie der Swiss Gloria und der Thurgau Adriatica reichen die Kabinengrößen bis zu 21 Quadratmetern, bei der 2023 in Betrieb genommenen MS Thurgau Prestige bis zu 30 Quadratmetern (Master Suite Oberdeck, französischer Balkon). Am kleinsten sind die Kabinen der drei ehemaligen Deilmann-Schiffe Saxonia, Chopin und Casanova, die bei neun Quadratmetern (1-Bett-Innenkabine, Chopin) beginnen und bei 16 Quadratmetern (2-Bett-Deluxe-Hauptdeck, Casanova) enden. Je nach Buchungskategorie verfügen die Kabinen über einen französischen Balkon am Oberdeck.

Geradezu riesig fallen dagegen die Kabinen der auf internationalen Flüssen eingesetzten Schiffe wie der Mekong Navigator und der Ganga Vilas aus. Die Navigator bietet Kabinen zwischen 24 Quadratmetern (Superior Suite, Hauptdeck) und 54 Quadratmetern (Grande Suite Oberdeck, Privatterrasse). Die Kabinen der in Indien und Bangladesch eingesetzten Thurgau Ganga Vilas sind alle 25 Quadratmeter groß, die der in Vietnam und Kambodscha eingesetzten Mekong Pandaw kommen auf 16 Quadratmeter.

Ausstattung: Generell verfügen die Kabinen jedes Thurgau-Schiffes über Dusche/WC, Föhn, Satelliten-Fernseher, Kühlschrank, Mini-Bar, Safe, Bordtelefon und individuell regulierbare Klimaanlage. Eine Ausnahme ist die in Südostasien eingesetzte Mekong Pandaw, bei der auf Minibar, Fernseher und Telefon verzichtet wird. Bei Kabinen mit Fenstern können diese aus Sicherheitsgründen nicht geöffnet werden, Außenbalkone werden über eine Schiebetür betreten.

Generell verfügen alle Schiffe neben den Kabinen und einem Restaurant auch über ein Sonnen- oder Panorama-Deck. Neuere Fünf-Sterne-Schiffe wie die Lord Byron haben zudem eine Bar und Tanzflächen, einen Wellnessbereich mit Sauna sowie Liegestühle, Putting Green und Whirlpool auf dem Sonnendeck. Die in Südostasien und Indien/Bangladesch eingesetzten Fünf-Sterne-Schiffe verfügen zudem über eine überdachte Lounge mit Bar und Bibliothek (Mekong Pandaw) oder ein Spa und Fitnesscenter (Thurgau Ganga Vilas).

Schiffsbereiche: Die Schiffe von Thurgau Travel haben mindestens zwei Decks, Restaurants und ein Panoramadeck. Trotz der geringen Schiffsgröße gibt es aber reichlich öffentliche Bereiche, um mal ohne viele Mitreisende seine Ruhe zu haben. Die größeren und international eingesetzten Schiffe verfügen zudem über einen Wellness- und Spa-Bereich. Je nach Schiff und Buchungskategorie steht den Gästen auch ein persönlicher Butler-Service zur Verfügung (Mekong Navigator).

Family bliss by Lake Constance Children never get bored in the Canton of Thurgau. Its idyllic scenery and the wide range of activities on offer will keep your entire family happy. In summer, you can bathe at the longest beach on Lake Constance, which stretches for over 62 kilometres, while the flat terrain is ideal for bike tours with the whole family.

The Thurgau Wine Region of Switzerland   

Thurgau wine region is a winemaking region of Switzerland that is perfectly tucked away in the far east of the country. To the west, the Thurgau wine region is bordered by Zurich and to its east, it is bordered by Lake Constance which is also known as Bodensee in German. The proximity of the Thurgau wine region to Germany means that there is a strong Germanic influence on the region in terms of the winemaking processes used and the types of grape varietals grown there. The vineyards of the Thurgau wine region are mostly planted along the shores of the beautiful Lake Constance. This location allows them to benefit from the moderate temperatures created by the nearby body of water. Along with this, the lake reflects plenty of light from its surface. In the Thurgau wine region, there is a wide range of different soil types including sandy clay with calcareous veins and deep moraines. The total surface area of the Thurgau wine region is 267 ha of which 66% is planted with red grape varietals and the remaining 34% with white.

Winemaking Sub-regions of Thurgau Wine Region

Within the canton of the Thurgau wine region , there are 6 wine-growing regions. These are Seebachtal, Unteres Thurtal, Untersee, Rheingebiet, Lauchetal, and Oberes Thurtal. The most northern sub-region is Untersee which faces directly onto Lake Constance and the high reaches of the Rhine. Most of the remaining sub-regions are located within the valley of the Thur River which is a tributary of the Rhine. The Thur River is the river from which the region gets its name.

Grape Varieties:

Across the Thurgau wine region, the most commonly grown grape varietal is Pinot Noir, other popular varietals are Gamay x Reichensteiner crossings, Gamaret, Garanir, Dunkelfelder, Dornfelder and Diolinoir.

Red varieties: Pinot Noir , Acolon, Regent, Garanoir, Cabernet Jura

White varieties: Pinot Gris , Sauvignon Blanc , Solaris, Chardonnay

Swiss Wines with a Germanic Influence

The wines of the Thurgau wine region form part of the AOC Thurgau. The white wines produced in the Thurgau wine region are extremely aromatic. Of the red wines produced in the Thurgau wine region, the majority are Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir is by far the most significant grape in the Thurgau wine region. Other varietals that are used in the production of red wines are Garanoir, a Swiss-bred varietal that is made by crossing Gamay and Reichensteiner; and Regent which is a German-bred varietal that produces wines that have powerful tannins, rich red colour and a cherry nose and flavour. The red wines of the Thurgau wine region range from those that are fruity and easy to drink to reds that are well-structured and aged in barrels.

Where to Go When Spending Time in Thurgau Wine Region    

Arenenberg - the palace with the napoleon museum  .

Arenenberg is the only German-speaking museum that illustrates the history of Napoleon. Arenenberg is compared by many to Windsor Castle in Britain. It is perfectly located on Lake Constance in the Thurgau wine region of Switzerland. Inside the castle is a wonderful museum with a host of international artefacts, art, and breathtaking views over the waters of the lake. There is a strong British influence at the castle as Queen Hortense, her son Emperor Napoleon III and his wife Eugenie often visited Arenenbegr and made it a place of international fame. The castle is open to visitors throughout the year and hosts a number of special exhibitions.

Ittinger Museum       

The Ittinger Museum is part of the Kunstmuseum of Thurgau wine region, both of which are conference and culture centres of the Thurgau wine region. The location of Ittinger Museum is a former monastery in Frauenfeld which has been home to many communities of monks over a number of centuries. Inside the Ittinger Museum, one can explore and learn more about the history of the location. There are a number of paintings that tell the story of Saint Bruno who founded the Carthusian Order in the Middle Ages. Inside the building, one can see the cells where the former inhabitants would sit in silence and solitude in order to become closer to God. The Ittinger Museum is a wonderfully informative place to visit that also provides tours and lectures on request.

St. George’s Abbey - The Beautiful Former Benedictine Monastery  

St. George’s Abbey is located in Stein am Rhein in the Thurgau wine region of Switzerland. What is now the abbey was once a Benedictine monastery that was moved to Thurgau by Emperor Henry II in 1007. The relocation of the abbey to Stein am Rhein played a major role in the development of the area and its commercial growth. During the 15th century, the building was completely rebuilt much of which remains to be seen today. The building was built in the late Gothic architecture style and is one of the finest examples of this architecture across Europe. St. George’s Abbey is a wonderful place to visit to find peace and marvel at the splendour of the magnificent building.

Enjoy Hours of Entertainment at Conny–Land

Conny-Land is located in Lipperswil in the Thurgau wine region of Switzerland and is the country’s largest amusement park. The park is situated near Lake Constance and provides fun, entertainment and action for the whole family. Activities to enjoy at the park include riding the Cobra wagons, the Space Shot Tower ride, the Cobra roller coasters and the water sports at Vodoo Island. For smaller children and for those looking for something less adventurous, Conny-Land has regular sea lion and parrot shows and even offers visitors the chance to swim with the resident sea lions. For visitors travelling to Conny-Land from far, there are a number of nearby hotels that offer transfers to and from the park.

Lake Seerhein - The Major Lake of the Alps  

Lake Constance is made up of three bodies of water including the Oberseem the Untersee and the Seerhein. Although the lake stretches across both Switzerland and Germany, Seerhein is located in Switzerland in the basin of Lake Constance. The Swiss shores of Lake Constance extend for over 43 miles between Stein am Rhein and Altenrhein. Along the shores are a number of picturesque lakeside towns and fishing villages that are a joy to explore. The route can be travelled either by boat, car or bicycle and is a wonderful way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake and its surroundings.

Seerucken - The Rolling Hills of Seerucken        

Seerucken is a rolling range of hills on the northern plateau of Switzerland. On the north side of the plateau, it overlooks Untersee which is part of the beautiful Lake Constance. The top of the plateau stretches over 700 meters and includes the small villages of Reutenen and Salen. The best way to experience Seerucken is to travel the Seerucken Route. This route takes one alongside the Rhine river, passing the famous St. Katherinatal Monstery into the countryside of Stammheim where there are some of the best panoramic views of the Alps. From there the route travels into the Scharenwald forest where one can see the old concealed bunkers built during World War II and rare forest communities. The route ends at the wonderfully romantic Bommer ponds and the lake shores in the town of Arbon.

Rhine Falls - The Waterfalls of the Rhine River

The Rhine falls in Switzerland from the most powerful waterfall in Europe and is one of the most incredible natural spectacles in the country. The falls are located along a part of the Rhine River which is known as the High Rhine. At this point of the river, the water drops down to a lower level which creates the picturesque waterfall. The waterfall consists of a single drop that is 23 meters high and 150 meters wide. During the summer months, the water in the falls flows at an unbelievable rate of 600 000 litres per second and so this is the best time to witness just now majestic the waterfall. Other activities available at the Rhine Falls include boat cruises, rock tours, Rhine crossings, and audio tours.

The Foods to Try When in Thurgau Wine Region         

The cuisine in the Thurgau wine region is dominated by the freshest of produce. It is said that half of all Switzerland's apple juice and a third of all the country’s apples and pears come directly from the Thurgau wine region! The fresh ingredients and the beautiful natural environment make the Thurgau wine region the perfect place to take a journey through the best of Swiss gastronomy.

Capuns - A Staple Dish Across Thurgau  

Capuns are a traditional dish of the Thurgau wine region. The dish is so popular that there are many different versions of preparing it and most families have their own take on Capuns. Capuns are made using a combination of dried meat and spätzle dough that is wrapped in chard leaves. The wrapped mixture is cooked in butter and slowly simmered in cream and stock. Once the wrapped parcels are ready, they are topped with crispy fried pieces of bacon and grated cheese.

Bundner Nusstorte - The Traditional Tart of Thurgau  

Bundner Nusstorte is a traditional tart of the Thurgau wine region that is made of a shortbread pastry filled with caramel and nuts. The most commonly used nuts used for the filling are walnuts but on rare occasions, different kinds of nuts are used. The recipe for Bundner Nusstorte dates back to 1900 when the tart was presented at a fair in Basel. Today the tart is served cut in slices and paired with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

Schublig - The Most Popular Swiss Sausage

Schublig is one of the most popular Sausages in the Thurgau wine region. This sausage is made with either beef or pork meat. The meat is prepared with non-fat milk, spices, and onions. Once it is ready, Schublig is normally eaten raw but in some restaurants and shops, it can also be found lightly smoked, boiled, or grilled. This delicious sausage is usually served as an appetizer with cheese and a crisp glass of local wine.

7 museums and activities for a memorable Thurgau getaway

There is a place in Switzerland where blooming apple trees, bubble hotels and bicycle routes converge. The canton of Thurgau with its unusually flat landscape is a stone’s throw from Zürich (and from many other places in Switzerland.)

An apple museum, a former monastery and a bicycle factory are just some of the reasons why you should grab your rucksack and head to the shores of Lake Constance. Here are seven fun ideas to make your Thurgau getaway perfect:

Schloss Hagenwil in Amriswil

Switzerland has very few castles that are surrounded by water. Schloss Hagenwil is one of these so-called "water castles".

A castle tour through the many chambers and halls is the best way to grasp the Medieval history. In the month of August, the castle is host to the Schlossfestspiele Hagenwil . Theater enthusiasts will come from all over to see the latest play within the confines of this historic castle.

Kartause Ittingen for its monk museum and a hyper-local restaurant

The monastery in Ittingen has a history dating back to 1150 when it was founded by the Canons Regular. In 1461, the premises were sold to the Carthusians. After its destruction during the Reformation, the buildings were reconstructed with much thicker walls. You will see evidence of this fortification inside the museum.

Behind the entrance to the Ittinger Museum , you will see the church where monks used to pray every night between midnight and 2 AM. Solitude was counted as true devotion, therefore the monks would pray in silence.

Within small rooms, the museum explains how the monks used to live, showing their lifestyle. Outside of the museum, there are lovely gardens full of herbs and an old house where monks used to live.

Interestingly, artists can rent this house on a weekly basis. (While it may look old from the outside, it is modern and cozy on the inside.) And those who would like to spend a night in an Instagramable bubble hotel are in luck, too.

Another highlight is Restaurant Mühle with its hyper-local menu. Thanks to the large farm, lots of locally sourced ingredients end up in the restaurant kitchen. The menu is called a “0-kilometer-menu” - it is farm to table at its best.

Museum Momö, the Swiss Juice Museum, for its interactive museum

Have you ever tried apple Shorley ? Most likely, it was sourced in Thurgau, Switzerland’s biggest fruit-growing canton. With more than 210'000 majestic apple trees and over 1'600 hectares of fruit orchards, large swathes of Thurgau are in bloom between April and May. For those curious to see the blossoms, hit up Madame Bluescht at +41 71 531 01 30 to find out which trees are currently in blossom.

Museum Momö is the Swiss Juice Museum in Arbon. It was opened in 2018 by the traditional juice maker, Möhl. This local family has been farming apples since 1895, producing juice, wine and now cider.

The museum illustrates the unique delights of the Möhl family and brings Thurgau’s apple and juice-making trade to life. Peek inside a modern day apple juice production, learning about each step along the way! Thanks to interactive displays, the museum is attractive for children of all ages. (Adults enjoy the added benefit of tasting the various beers and wines...)

The railway Eldorado at Locorama in Romanshorn

The canton of Thurgau is a perfect destination for technology fans, too. Within sight of the harbor at Lake Constance, railway enthusiasts will find an Eldorado: Locorama in Romanshorn.

From historic engines to train simulators and miniature railroads, this hands-on museum has something in store for all ages. Every last Sunday of the month from May to October, the Locorama offers lakeside rides on a steam engine powered train.

The car collection at Autobau Erlebniswelt

Within easy reach from Romanshorn is the impressive car collection of racing driver Fredy Lienhard. At autobau erlebniswelt , you can see the likes of Aston Martin and Bugatti from up close.

This museum for petrol heads showcases more than 90 classic cars. From American muscle cars to English legends, rally cars, dragsters and Formula 1 cars. There are two racing simulators and a micro car race track. And being able to sit in the driver’s seat of some of these cars makes for a great selfie moment…

The bicycle factory of Tour de Suisse in Kreuzlingen

With its beautiful location at Lake Constance near the German border, Thurgau is perfect for bicycle trips. (We have previously covered the perfect overnight bicycle trip in Thurgau.) Would it surprise you to know that one of the most popular Swiss bicycle brands is headquartered in Thurgau?

At their plant, Tour de Suisse allows anyone to personalize a bicycle by choosing a style and color. During my visit, I received a factory tour. My prejudice of a factory being dark and dingy was erased immediately. In a sunny and green surrounding, a group of engineers is in charge of painting and assembling each bicycle, part by part.

The Saurer Museum Depot in Arbon

Thurgau even has a museum for commercial vehicles, engines, embroidery and weaving machines. All of the pieces on exhibit at the Saurer Museum Depot in Arbon were manufactured in this place at Lake Constance.

Among the collection are about 20 historic buses, trucks, fire engines and yellow postal buses. Saurer vehicles were popular for their power, longevity and stunning design. Interestingly, this museum also showcases various generations of embroidery and weaving machines.

MS Swiss Jewel cruise ship (aka "MPS Thurgau Prestige") joined Scylla's fleet in 2009 and is also chartered to Thurgau Travel (as "Thurgau Prestige") since 2018. Riverboat's sisterships are the fleetmates Swiss Emerald, Swiss Sapphire , Esprit and Treasures .

The vessel (ENI number 07001906) is owned by Scylla AG and operated by its subsidiary company Scylla Cruises . The boat is named "Thurgau Prestige" when chartered to Thurgau Travel (Switzerland-based cruise company/travel agency).

The vessel (ENI number 07001906) is Switzerland- flagged (MMSI 269057300) and registered in Basel . Currently, the shipowner Scylla AG charters Swiss Jewel (as Thurgau Prestige / rebranded) to the Switzerland-based company Thurgau Travel.

One mini-suite and 11 double cabins are located on Emerald Deck. Ruby Deck has 30 double cabins and 2 mini-suites. Diamond Deck has 14 suites and 4 mini-suites. All cabins are outside and offer as standard / complimentary amenities flat TV, electronic safe box (in the closet), minibar, air conditioning, hairdryer, en-suite bathroom (shower, WC, single-sink vanity).

All cabins on Ruby Deck and Diamond Deck are with French balconies.

Shipboard facilities

The riverboat Swiss Jewel has a stylish lounge with dance floor and panoramic bar, as well as a comfortable bar in the rear, all situated on the Diamond deck. In the ship's entrance hall, guests will find the reception, Travel Desk, and boutique. The elegant restaurant is located on the Ruby Deck. There is also a fitness room and an Internet corner onboard. The whirlpool is on the Sun deck. A lift connects all decks, except the Emerald deck.

Vessel's construction (hull and superstructure) was done at the Vahali Shipyard in Belgrade Serbia . The 1923-founded Dutch shipbuilding company (Scheepswerf En Machinefabriek Vahali BV) owns and operates yards in Serbia (Belgrade, and Zasavica) and in Holland (Gendt). Vahali Shipyard Zasavica was officially opened in 2013. Following the construction in Serbia, the cruise ship was towed to Holland for final outfitting at Scheepswerf Vahali (Gendt).
