The boys are back with a brand new episode of The Grand Tour. This time, they are headed to Mauritania for their penultimate adventure – and viewers can watch it now!

In the latest episode, titled Sand Job, the trio will follow in the footsteps of the legendary Paris-Dakar rally, but they'll have to take on their adventure in modified sports cars.

It'll no doubt be an exciting episode, with Richard Hammond previously teasing a "surprise" for the episode.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com ahead of the launch, Hammond revealed: "There was there was a surprise arrival in [the] minefield, because it's [Mauritania] still on the red list in terms of travel, and the last thing you want in or near a minefield is a surprise.

'There was a scary encounter with some Ebola carrying bats. My car, the Aston Martin, was the troublesome one of the bunch because it comes from an era when cars were just becoming intelligent... and that gave me no end prompt. Plus, the guys just destroyed me as well. There was quite a bit of pranking."

The next instalment of The Grand Tour became available to watch on Friday 16th February on Prime Video . It's out now!

The trio have previously filmed in far-flung locations such as Colombia, Vietnam and Switzerland - and next time will be no different.

The newest instalment will see the trio head back to Africa, as they have this time filmed the show in Mauritiana, a country in the Northwest of the continent.

Speaking of the location, Clarkson said: "I love deserts, so I've always wanted to do the Sahara, but it's difficult to go there; you can't go to Mali or Libya or Algeria or Chad. You can't go to the top of Nigeria.

"And then it was really a question of finding the most inappropriate cars for trans-Sahara travel, and I think we did a pretty good job on that."

Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s Grand Tour Tenure Is Coming to an End

The Grand Tour’s end comes just weeks after the BBC indefinitely shut down Top Gear.

The old Top Gear trio of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May will be hitting your screen as the hosts of The Grand Tour for the final time in 2024. The two final episodes have now been filmed, taking place in Mauritania and Zimbabwe, where the trio we've grown to love will close a chapter that's been three decades in the making.

“We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years. And after next year, I won’t be doing that any more," Clarkson told The Times .

Since The Grand Tour launched in 2016, after Clarkson was fired from Top Gear for punching a producer, it's gone through several changes. First, it was essentially a Top Gear recreation, with celebrity interviews and an in-studio live show. Then they tightened it up by ditching the celebrity stuff. Eventually, they ditched the live show altogether and just made feature-length specials. And while none of The Grand Tour's iterations managed to capture the magic of Top Gear at its best , it was still one of the most watched shows on Amazon Prime . Millions of people tuned in to watch the automotive equivalent of the Three Stooges (and I mean that as a grand compliment).

All three hosts have their own projects to pursue outside of The Grand Tour anyway. Clarkson has his farm show and May has a travel show, both of which are also on Amazon Prime , while Hammond still does a lot of work for DriveTribe , while also presenting other TV programs. So they'll still be around, even though The Grand Tour won't be.

This news also comes just a couple of weeks after the BBC decided to indefinitely shut down Top Gear . After host Freddie Flintoff's accident during filming and the subsequent settlement, the BBC decided against renewing the show. Clarkson doesn't blame the most recent trio of Top Gear hosts for not wanting to return, either, specifically Flintoff.

"Richard Hammond was always keen to get back to work [following a crash], whereas Freddie isn’t," Clarkson told The Sun . "I don’t blame him. I know what happened on that awful day and it was horrific."

Clarkson even said that anyone who wants to take over in Flintoff's spot would come across as "heartless."

In a matter of weeks, the world learned that the two most entertaining car shows on TV are shutting down. We all knew this day was coming soon, as the original Top Gear gang are all either in their sixties or getting quite close, but it's still a little sad to see them go. Sure, their most recent work pales in comparison to the shows from their prime but, like most millennial car nerds, Clarkson, Hammond, and May made an indelible impression on me and the way I look at cars, and I'm sure I'm not alone on that one. Thanks for the memories, chaps.

"The Grand Tour" to return for farewell episode in 2024

C larkson, Hammond, and May are set to officially bid farewell to their program, "The Grand Tour," broadcast on Amazon, as reported by the BBC.

There's good news and bad news for fans. Good news: "The Grand Tour" will return in 2024. Bad news: this will be its final episode. The trio, who rose to fame through the BBC's "Top Gear," have continued their antics on "The Grand Tour," which has been available on Amazon since 2016.

While the initial seasons of "The Grand Tour" boasted a similar number of episodes to its predecessor “Top Gear," the series has recently been limited to sporadically published special productions. It appears that this was the beginning of the end for "The Grand Tour".

According to the BBC, which cited internal sources, a  special episode documenting a trip to Zimbabwe will be released in 2024 , marking the official end of "The Grand Tour".

Despite saying goodbye to "The Grand Tour," it doesn't mean that this popular trio will completely vanish from our screen. Each presenter has their own shows on Amazon's platform. As of now, these productions are set to continue.

It's worth noting that "Top Gear," the precursor to "The Grand Tour," is also seeing its end. Following Clarkson, May, and Hammond's departure, the BBC carried on with the series, introducing new presenters. However, this came to a halt in 2022, when one presenter, Freddie Flintoff, sustained serious injuries in an on-set incident. Nearly a year following the accident, the broadcaster announced its decision to discontinue the program.

Turns out, Spencer relied a little more on the cameras than he’d like to admit. In the heat of the post-game interview, Spencer decides to declare for the NFL draft eight months early — and pretty much everyone except for his family is disappointed, including Jordan, who was finally getting a bit of attention when Spencer took it all away again.

It seems like getting to the NFL is going to keep causing rifts with everyone in Spencer’s life, because when he tries to talk to Liv about how she doesn’t feel like LA is home anymore, she hits him with a dose of reality that, once he’s drafted, he’ll have to adjust to navigating a new city on his own, too.

Meanwhile, Liv also has to make amends for signing a book deal to write her dad’s biography without consulting Jordan or their mom. When she approaches Jordan for the first time, he lashes out at her for making that decision without them.

And speaking of Jordan, he’s got a lot on his plate for a college junior. Don’t forget, he’s still wedding planning. He spends much of Episode 2 trying to convince Layla to move into the beach house with him, but she keeps brushing off the idea before finally telling him she doesn’t want to live together until they’re married. But, it doesn’t quite seem like that’s the whole truth.

Deadline spoke with All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll about Episode 2 in the interview below.

NKECHI OKORO CARROLL: I don’t believe Jordan is wrong because the way Liv approached it. She’s been doing this whole thing about the new her, and so for Jordan, he’s still processing the information about the book deal and what that would mean about what they reveal about their dad and everything. So Liv presented to him it like it was a book idea that she wanted to get his buy in on, and then the minute he finds out, there’s already a deal in place. That’s why his feelings got hurt, because it’s like if you’ve already signed a deal and exchanged advancement money, someone is expecting it. You’re doing it. So then asking permission, if you ask him after the fact, that feels a little performative. We felt he was justified in calling Liv on that. If you’re going to say this is the new you, and you’re coming to me and saying you want to get my permission, what you really wanted was my willingness to help you convince mom with something you’ve already moved forward with. That’s why ultimately, Liv backtracks and understands, ‘He’s right. I messed up. So much for the new me. I did find the deal. I did move forward to that, and then I came home to ask for permission.’ So it felt like that wasn’t a regression in Jordan’s maturity and growth.

DEADLINE: I think it’s not always his feelings but the way he expresses them that I wonder about. When he lashes out at Spencer at dinner after Spencer declares for the draft, that felt similar.

CARROLL: I hear you on that. I think I respectfully disagree, because I think Jordan is allowed to have his feelings about this. Old Jordan would have gotten in Spencer’s face and there would have probably been like a semi-fight there. But what he did was just call him on his honest behavior. I think him calling Liv on her honest behavior and calling Spencer on his honest behavior is maturity. He’s allowed to still have the feelings. He has he’s allowed to still be annoyed by it. Does he go off on a bender and crash the car? Does he shove Spencer up against the wall and fight him? No. That would have been old, immature Jordan. But mature Jordan is still allowed to have the feelings he has, and he’s allowed to call them on their behavior when it’s hurtful to him…not making it [their] problem, but he’s allowed to absolutely let them know how he feels about something they did. Spencer, even if he couldn’t admit it to himself, legitimately was panicked about the lack of attention and what that could mean for his ranking and everything. He blurted something out, and part of calling him out on that is be honest about why you did it.

DEADLINE: I will agree there. Spencer did mess up. What was going through his head in that moment?

DEADLINE: Okay let’s talk about those outside pressures, including the new coach. The way he is going behind people’s backs to elevate Jordan is absolutely going to fuel the fire. They may be adults, but they’re only 21.

CARROLL: exactly. They’re juniors and seniors in college and you’re talking about the difference of a contract that could be millions of dollars. Even being drafted round one versus round two has a huge financial implication, let alone not drafted at all. So now these things that are happening have real life implications for all of them. So their reactions to them are gonna be a little bit more extreme. Everyone has a reason why they’re operating from the place they’re operating, including Coach Mac, but that has a ripple effect in other people’s lives. And if you’re going to do that, you got to be prepared for the consequences that come with.

DEADLINE: Going back to Jordan, he really wants Layla to move in. At the end of the episode, she tells him she doesn’t want to live together until they’re married. But is that true, or is something deeper going on there?

CARROLL: You know I can’t give away any spoilers. The concern that she may not be fully being honest with Jordan about what’s going on, I think it’s valid. And the idea that she herself may not be aware of what’s going on is also something to consider, because sometimes we’re reacting to stuff or we’re triggered by stuff, but we actually don’t even realize. So Layla and Jordan are definitely taking a journey this season. It’s been all the whole honeymoon period. They got together, they fell in love, and they got engaged very quickly, and now they’re preparing for a wedding that they set for two years out, and the reality of relationships and anxiety and, again, outside forces — it’s got a lot going on. She’s got a lot of pressures. There is anxiety not just about the wedding, but about everything in this stage of life. Don’t forget that Layla is also someone who struggles sometimes with depression and anxiety and mental health issues. So as you layer on the responsibility she feels for what happened to Patience, even though Patience has told her only Miko is responsible. Add into that the new business of a club that she is adamant she needs to launch properly. A new business partner in her life who is a little bit more carefree. He’s a multimillionaire who gets to walk through life as this very lucky, very rich white male and there aren’t really consequences for anything he does. That has an influence on Layla, except the outcomes aren’t necessarily as carefree for her as they are for him. So we’re gonna see her and Jordan have to navigate all of those things while Jordan’s star is also rising in football, while all of a sudden Spencer’s life will become a little bit of Jordan’s life as he gets more attention in football. They have to navigate all of those outside forces to get to where they need to get to in order to marry each other and start this new phase of their life.

DEADLINE: We got one good episode with Spelivia before Spencer started overthinking again. I want to talk about their conversation at the end, because it made me a bit nervous for them.

DEADLINE: That conversation seemed to really weigh on Spencer.

CARROLL: It did, just because it’s the reality of getting punched in the face with like, ‘We’re not kids in Kansas anymore.’ So that really landed for him and he has to really take that in and see how he navigates and moves through the rest of it, because the draft will be here sooner than he knows it. What is he going to do?

The Grand Tour Season 2 Complete Episode Breakdown

The boys decide to take a step back into, what we could describe as proper motoring journalism, as they test three high-end SUVs: The Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Porsche Macan, and a Range Rover Velar. The trio asses four things: Practicality, agility, performance, and off-roadability. All within the gorgeous landscape of Canada.

The Riviera

You knew it was coming – of course The Grand Tour is getting its hands on a Chiron! Clarkson takes the hypercar and races it around France and Italy, taking a morning break at a luxury yacht, a quick ski, and a trip through Turin. This happens at the same time as a broken Hammond, accompanied by James May , try and alleviate office boredom by carpark racing.

The trio attempt to set a world water speed record on the waters of Cumbria. And if you’ve heard the news, they succeed.

In the Gulf state, Hammond takes to the sand in a very quick tank named the Ripsaw. And while Hammond is stretching his love for speed in raucousness, James May tests the VW Up! GTI at the Eboladrome (yes, they’re still using it), and Clarkson drives a Subaru around the English countryside.

This episode, to much surprise, is going to be completely unscripted. They travel to Croatia in the hopes they put something together, and find themselves after the world’s most spectacular fire extinguisher. We can only imagine…

Especially as we know Hammond has another little accident. Poor Hammond, it’s been a hard year for the hamster.
