Diptyque candles are always a welcome gift, but for something a little more unique, go for one of the brand's eau de parfums. This one was formulated to recreate the scent of a ’60s Parisian bar—the woody scent smells great spritzed around the home.
Airbnb gift card
Here at Traveler, we're always on the hunt for the coolest, coziest Airbnbs, whether we're looking for a romantic cabin getaway , a house with a pool , or one that can brighten up our mood with the sheer amount of color found within its four walls. For the travelers in your life who are also keen on staying in a rental, Airbnb gift cards can be purchased in amounts from $25 up to $500, so you can chip in (or cover) their next stay.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen
Arguably the most popular sunscreen amongst Traveler editors, this gel-like face SPF blends in easily, leaves no white cast, and feels great on your skin. It'll be a welcome addition to any stocking stuffer or gift set.
Polaroid Hi·Print 2x3 Pocket Photo Printer
Now that we all walk around with high-quality cameras in our pocket, fewer of our photos actually make it to print. This pocket-size printer from Polaroid spits out vibrant 2"x3" photos, so you can instantly hand over that new family portrait to grandma or share physical photos with a travel companion.
Sabah slip-ons
Comfortable shoes are a hot topic among travelers and these Sabah slip-ons have articles director Lale Arikoglu's stamp of approval . Handmade in Turkey, they come in a range of colors and are long-lasting: “After six years of ownership, my pair is completely intact with the exception of the color, which is slightly fading in a way that, if anything, has only made them look better,” Arikoglu says.
Nixon Wizard Stick Beverage Sling
This is a niche gift, but there's someone on your list who will absolutely love it. Nixon's insulated beverage sling fits six cans at once; they can bring it along to picnics, camping trips, tailgates, or hikes to keep drinks cold and avoid the clunkiness of a tote bag or backpack.
Hinoki Wood Rice Ball Mold
There are food gifts for friends who want a meal or snack that's nearly ready to go right out of the box. Then, there are gifts that require some effort. For the home chef who's looking to expand their cooking skills, gift a new kitchen tool like this rice ball mold, which they can use to shape homemade onigiri.
Gastro Obscura: A Food Adventurer's Guide
Another great coffee table book, Atlas Obscura's new tome is made for travelers who plan their trips around food. Inside, readers will find a guide to food experiences around the world, with chapters on every continent (including Antarctica!), as well as features on foodies like Tom Carvel, events like the Chicago World Fair, and “how to try it” tips. Just a few noteworthy inclusions: Jeju Island's free-diving sea women in South Korea, the world's largest edible mushroom in Zambia, and the great fruitcake toss in Colorado.
The Carried Away Convertible Backpack
Sarah Jessica Parker collaborated with Samsonite on this versatile bag, which has since sold out multiple times. It's a jack-of-all-trades—wear it as a backpack, carry it as a tote, or sling it over your shoulder. It comes with a removable clutch and an extra strap to turn the smaller bag into a cross-body. Otherwise, it has all the bells and whistles you'd expect in a travel backpack : luggage sleeve, water bottle pocket, laptop slot, etc.
Bokksu snack box subscription
There is no shortage of subscription boxes out there, but we're particularly fond of the edible ones. Bokksu, a Japanese snack service that recently launched an online Asian grocery store , sends recipients an assortment of sweet and savory snacks, candies, and teas on a monthly basis, sourced from small, family-run businesses in Japan.
Artifact Uprising Color Series Photo Book
Commemorate a special trip with a photo book from Artifact Uprising. Whether it's your first big trip this year or one taken decades ago, your loved ones will appreciate the thought that goes into picking out your favorite memories together.

11 Best Luxury Travel Toiletries Sets

Looking for great toiletry and travel beauty sets?
The ‘no-liquids’ rule really has changed the way we travel with hand-luggage only. One of the reasons why I almost always check my luggage is because I cannot stand the idea (and effort) of decanting (probably due to the amount of travel that I do), and I am grateful that some brands really have upped their game in this department – and we are not talking samples, but real ranges of the products that you need, all carefully curated in a gorgeous looking toiletry or beauty travel set.
Here are some of my favourite travel beauty and toiletry sets – some of which even include both face and body care (which is not a usual combination – usually is just one or the other).
Below I curated a list of beauty travel and/or toiletry sets for women, men, unisex and for children (which are even harder to find). I hope you find one or two to take on your next trip.
1. Unisex Luxury Travel Toiletry Sets

Does he have a quality pair of sunglasses? If not, this could be the best luxury travel gift for him! You can’t really go wrong with aviator-style sunglasses from Coach or Ray-Ban .
5. Luxury Travel Hats and Gloves for Men
Now, a travel hat is a little riskier than aviator sunglasses as luxury gifts for men, since you really have to know his style. But just look at this fedora from Armani ! “The Black List,” anyone?! SO sophisticated. Or, go with the more casual but awesome visored hat with embroidered Armani signature. (Notice how a cap is called a visored hat? It must be luxury!) Fedoras start at $495US and “visored hats” start at $395US.
And while you’re on the Armani Men’s Hats and Gloves page, take a look through the luxurious travel gloves. Ribbed cashmere, lambskin suede or lambskin nappa leather. Aren’t they beautiful? You can also get a matching beanie perfect for cooler travel destinations. Armani men’s luxury gloves start at $295US. Warm hats start at $225US.
6. Luxury Pens Small Travel Gifts for Men
Possibly the best luxury travel gifts men can get is a luxury everyday carry pen, or EDC pen. The Grafton Pen collection from Everyman is chic, minimalist and built to last. It’s made of aluminum, properly weighted and has a heavy duty clip and deep groove grip. And for the perfect travel pen, you can choose from the Grafton Mini click pen or the Grafton Mini Twist pen. Both fit in your pocket and retail at $44US.
He’ll love its versatility, as it’s compatible with Bic Gel, Uniball Jetstream, Pilot G2, Fisher Space Pen, Monteverde Ballpoint, Parker Gel and Ballpoint refill cartridges. Comes in multiple colors and highly rated.

While we’re on the topic of swimwear, a quality pair of men’s sandals for the pool or beach are pretty risk-free luxury travel gifts for him. 10. Luxury Wallet Gifts for Men
When considering the best luxury travel gifts for him, you can’t really go wrong with a beautiful leather wallet. But unless you specifically know he likes bigger wallets, I suggest going with a slim, smaller option that’s travel-friendly.
A gorgeous luxury wallet for men is Armani’s full-grain leather bifold wallet with or without a coin pocket. It has multiple card slots and a long one for bank notes. Or for a super slim wallet option for men who travel a lot, check out the full grain leather card holder with a money clip. Armani card holders and wallets start at $275US.
I’m also a big fan of luxury men’s wallets from Diesel . My favorite is the classic, slim and full-grain leather NEELA XS bi-fold. Or, if you prefer one with a coin pocket and zip-around, check out this cool ZIPPY HIRESH S. Diesel card holders and wallets start at $68US.
11. Luxury Passport Holder for Men
And, of course, you could also go with a luxury passport holder for men. I’ll start again with Armani , which has three to choose from. They’re all pretty similar, but are either goat skin or calf skin, and differ on the number of card holders. Armani luxury passport holders start at $295US.
Coach also offers two great options for luxury passport holders: a simple but classy leather bifold or a zippered travel organizer with 17 card slots, ID window and a zippered interior pocket. Coach luxury passport holders start at $95US.
12. Dog Clip Valet Key for Men who Travel a Lot
This is ingenious! Coach makes this keychain that’s perfect for travelers. The regular keychain is nice and big to fit lots of keys, but there’s a second ring you can easily snap off for your valet! Use the dog clip to easily attach your keys to your bag (to an inside zipper, please!). LOVE this. Retails for $65US.
13. Luxury Travel Bags for Men
Now, this list of best luxury travel gifts for him wouldn’t be complete without a fantastic luxury travel bag. And when I say luxury travel bags for men, I mean ones that are both beautiful and practical.
Let’s start with the International Carry-On Expandable Spinner from Briggs & Riley . It’s a hardside travel bag at 21” tall (one inch shorter than the Domestic) that expands another 22% and weighs only 7.9lbs.
He’ll love the 8 wide, tilt-resistant 360-spinning wheels and the molded soft-touch, ergonomic outside handle. It also comes with a built-in TSA-friendly combination lock. Inside, it features a zippered mesh suiter on the inside lid and adjustable speed-buckle compression panels to minimize wrinkling. But what he’ll likely love the most is that all Briggs & Riley luggage is backed by a lifetime guarantee. Retails at $579US.
Another fantastic luxury travel bag for men is a high-quality leather garment bag. I absolutely love this handmade, full-grain leather garment bag from Time Resistance. It’s vegetable-tanned by hand, too, and has three zippered pockets on the outside, two detachable hangers, and an adjustable, removable leather shoulder strap. Retails at $429US.
14. Luxury Weekender Bags for Him
If you’re interested in luxury travel bags for him but want something a little more casual, consider luxury weekender bags. They’re super versatile for different types of trips and will make him feel like a million bucks no matter where he goes.
For the ultimate in luxury weekender travel bags for men, go with the Armani travel bag . It has a ton of pockets, has rich Armani detailing and a wide, adjustable strap. Choose from black, midnight blue and multi-color. Retails at $1,995US.
I love this beautiful leather duffel bag from Capra Leather on Etsy. It has a small zippered pocket inside and outside, and the shoulder strap is padded, adjustable and removable. To give it an extra personal touch, you can also have it custom engraved. Choose from a variety of sizes, starting at $279US.
15. Luxury Leather Daypack for Guys
Every traveler needs a good travel daypack for day trips. I generally recommend backpacks for daypacks because they’re easy for carrying a bunch of stuff, especially if that stuff gets heavy. And if you’re looking for a luxury backpack for men, I have two beauties for you!
First, the absolutely gorgeous Armani leather backpack . It’s super luxurious, made from soft textured calfskin leather and chrome finish. I love its clean sophistication, lots of interior pockets, and wide, adjustable padded straps. Retails at $2,595US.
And how can you not love the gorgeous leather Bleecker Backpack from Coach? It has lots of pockets, including a secured laptop sleeve for a 13” laptop, interior zippered and multi-functional pockets, and an exterior snap pocket. Get it in classic black or a rich dark saddle brown. The black leather backpack comes in smooth leather or pebble leather. Retails at $695US.

Everyman has a slim, sturdy stainless steel bottle opener perfect for the traveler on the go. Attach it to a key, backpack or commuter bag with the stainless steel cable key ring. Reviewers love it. Retails at $21US.
19. Legendary American Copper Flask Luxury Gifts Men will Love
Is he more into spirits than beer? How about a super elite copper flask that’s handmade in Ohio? The legendary Jacob Bromwell copper flasks have a rich history dating all the way back to 1819. They’re still made in small batches, with old-fashioned techniques and best-in-class craftsmanship. And they’re backed with a lifetime guarantee, so you know he’ll be passing it along to the next generation. After plenty of trips with his favorite spirit!
Given that Jacob Bromwell flasks are made in small batches, they run out of stock frequently. When you find the one you want, make sure you snag it! My favorite is the Legacy Flask at 9oz and 1.55lbs (retails for $500). For frequent flyers, consider the TSA Carry-On Flask at 3.4oz and 0.5lbs (retails for $400US).
Still not sure about the perfect gift for him? Check out our 5-step gift giving guide .
15 Best LUXURY Travel Gifts for HER: Luxury Gift Ideas She’ll Love
1. luxury wallet for her.
Let’s start our list of best luxury travel gifts for her with a beautiful luxury wallet. My favorite is Armani’s Palmellato leather wallet with a zippered closure. It includes a bunch of card slots and a zippered compartment for currency notes and coins. Choose from the classic black and navy, or vibrant red, military green and pretty azure blue. Retails for $645US.
2. Cute Passport Holder She’ll Love
For the cutest luxury passport holders ever , go to Anthropologie! These passport holders are sturdy and have two interior pockets and a secure closure. Passport holders start at ONLY $24US, and you can get the matching luggage tags that start at $22US. Awesome!!
Wondering how to choose a gift she’ll love? Check out our 5-step gift giving guide .
3. Luxury Handbags for Women
You know you have so many options for beautiful luxury handbags for women. So, where do you start? I have two great suggestions: a classic luxury handbag name like Coach, and a lesser known and super chic name like Gigi New York. Both have plenty of luxury handbags she’ll love.
For a great handbag that’s perfect for travelers, I suggest one that’s mid-sized and can be used as a crossbody bag. This gives her the option of how much she wants to carry and how she wants to carry it. Which will likely depend on how much shopping she’s doing that day!
Here are two gorgeous examples. First, the Billie Crossbody from Gigi New York is a great mid-sized bag in a luxurious full-grain embossed python leather. It comes in five gorgeous colors that would go with any outfit. And she can adjust the crossbody strap for the perfect fit, or remove it to carry as a handbag. Retails for $285US.
Second, the Shay Shoulder Bag from Coach is possibly the perfectly-sized, super versatile and practical luxury handbag for her day trips. The main compartment is fully enclosed with a zipper, with lots of interior pockets to keep her organized. Plus, she’ll love the exterior zippered pocket, adjustable and detachable crossbody strap, and scratch-resistant pebble leather.
Choose from your classic colors, including chalk, black and saddle brown, as well as a feature color like this fun confetti pink (which is on sale, as of this post!). Retails for $350US.
4. Luxury Travel Bags for Her
If you’re looking for the best luxury travel gifts for her that are also super practical, consider a luxury travel bag. Something she can easily wheel around the airport that matches her chic style.
The Academy carry-on bag from Coach is a luxury travel bag she’ll love. She’ll have fun wheeling this beauty around, with its 360-spinning wheels and retractable telescoping handle.
It’s super practical, too. The exterior zipper is two-way. Its two handles make it easy to lift into the overhead compartment. And the two large zippered pockets on the outside are perfect for travel essentials like documents and toiletries. Inside luxuries include mesh shoe pockets, compression strap and snap-in laundry bag. Weighs 9lbs and retails at $595US.
5. Luxury Travel Daypacks for Women
As much as I love a luxury handbag for shopping on Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive, a more functional travel daypack for day trips is a backpack.
My favorite luxury backpack for women is the Carrie Backpack from Coach . It’s smaller and sleeker than the Bleecker Backpack I recommend for men above, but can still hold a 13” laptop and everything she’ll need for a day trip. I love all the zippered pockets, including a small interior one and three exterior zippered compartments. Choose from classic black, vibrant red or pretty blue. Retails for $395US.
Note: If she won’t be carrying a laptop or likes smaller bags, consider the Carrie Backpack 23. It’s more of a mini backpack but fits all the daypack travel essentials, like a water bottle and light sweater. Retails for $295US.
Another fantastic luxury backpack for women to use on day trips is Lululemon’s City Adventure backpack . Choose from the regular-sized 17L, the Mini 10L, and even a super mini Nano that clips on a belt or another bag’s strap.
Lululemon’s City Adventure backpack comes in lots of different cute colors and has what she needs to stay organized. They have multiple zippered pockets on the outside, and mesh pockets on the inside for a water bottle and extra clothes. This is the perfect luxury backpack for women who also love the gym! 6. Luxury Blazer for Traveling Women
A chic blazer can be the perfect piece that completes an outfit and helps your traveler feel like a million bucks. When I stayed on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, my go-to piece was my beautiful tailored blazer from Canadian-based Aritzia Fashion Boutique .

Made with recycled polyester from plastic bottles, it’s stretchy, packable, breathable and machine-washable. Choose from black, navy, splendid green and scarlet rose. And regular, tall and petite sizes. Retails for $189US.

10. Luxury Scarf She’ll Love to Travel With
If you’re looking for the best luxury travel gifts for her that she’ll love to flaunt, go with a luxury scarf from Armani . For a soft and cozy scarf for fall and winter, choose from luxurious pure wool or cashmere blends. Or for a light and thin scarf for spring and summer, choose from luscious silks and linens. Would she prefer a long, shawl-like scarf or a light foulard scarf to add some style around her pretty neck? Prices start at $95US.
11. Luxury Travel Gloves for Her
Beautiful travel gloves are also risk-free luxury items she’ll love. And if you want luxury, you can’t go wrong with Armani gloves. Choose between short and long lengths. Soft nappa leather, lambskin or cashmere. Starting at $425US.

Plus, it’s lightweight, opens wide and comes with a clear liquids bag perfect for pulling out at airport security. Choose from pink, copper, grey camo and black. Retails for $48US.
For a small travel essentials bag, take a look at the cute Dome Cosmetic Case from Gigi New York . It comes in five fabulous colors and is perfect for carrying travel essentials separate from her main toiletries. Retails for $80US.

A beautiful luxury watch is a fantastic travel gift idea for her. Luxury watches for women add a touch of class and status, as well as obvious functionality. My favorite luxury watches for her are from Coach. You can choose from SO many great styles. Pretty, sophisticated or sporty. Leather, stainless steel or lightweight ceramic. But all super classy.
For a classy look, go with the pretty Park Watch in carnation gold ($295US). Not only does it sparkle with Swarovski crystals, it’s even water-resistant up to 99 feet! Or, if your traveler loves their Apple Watch, choose from beautiful Coach leather straps. Like this one with handcrafted tea rose applique ($175US).

Four Seasons Hualalai Vs. Fairmont Orchid. Which Is Best?
popular post today
Four Seasons Hualalai
Which hotel is best, Four Seasons Hualalai or Fairmont Orchid on Big Island? Four Seasons Hualalai is one of the best Four Seasons in Hawaii . It feels exclusive, and the setting of this hotel is otherworldly. Fairmont Orchid is situated just up from the Mauna Lani. It is a beautiful resort hotel set around a tropical free-form pool and, in most ways, falls below Four Seasons Hualalai for luxury. Fairmont Orchid does have the major advantage of being cheaper than the Four Seasons Hualaai.
Four Seasons Hualalai offers many secluded coves that no other hotel shares. The resort feels wild and remote compared to Fairmont Orchid, which is just up the coast from the Mauna Lani.
Both of these hotels are great. Which you choose will depend on your requirements and budget. I will break down the pros and cons of each hotel. Read on to find out which resort is best for you.
Book your stay at either hotel via our luxury travel concierge for extra benefits and perks, including free breakfast, resort credit, and a prioritized room upgrade.
What Is The Best Four Seasons Hotel In Hawaii?
Recommended Post In "Tips"
Four Seasons has four hotels in Hawaii: Four Seasons Hualalai (on Big Island), Four Seasons Lanai, Four Seasons Maui at Wailea, and the Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina, which is the newest of the four. They are all gorgeous, and they are all pretty expensive. They all feature in our picks of the best Four Seasons hotels in the world. Four Seasons is a particularly outstanding hotel brand, and Four Seasons hotels are usually the best option in any resort area. My reviews of the Four Seasons hotels in Hawaii can be found below.
1. Best Location: Four Seasons Hualalai Vs. Fairmont Orchid
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai sits on the shores of the stunning Kona-Kohala coast of Hawaii, situated on the Big Island, also known as Hawaii Island. This luxurious resort enjoys a prime oceanfront location, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and dramatic lava rock formations.
The resort is surrounded by lush tropical gardens and volcanic landscapes, providing guests with a serene and picturesque setting to relax and unwind. Hualalai is renowned for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and abundant marine life, making it an ideal destination for snorkeling, diving, and other water sports.
The resort is conveniently located near Kona International Airport, just a short drive away. It is within easy reach of popular attractions such as historic Kailua-Kona town, coffee plantations, and the iconic Volcanoes National Park.
Fairmont Orchid is situated on the Kohala Coast. It enjoys 32 acres of oceanfront, with lush tropical gardens and a picturesque white sand lagoon. The hotel fronts a small, protected sandy beach, which is great for swimming and snorkeling. The waters here are generally calm, making it family-friendly.
Each offers a hotel different experience due to its respective location and surroundings.
Review: Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection
Recommended Post In "Reviews"
Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection on Big Island, Hawaii, is plonked on the most beautiful pristine white-sand beach on the sun-kissed Kohala Coast of Hawaii. Remember to book your stay at Mauna Lani with our luxury travel concierge for perks like free breakfasts and room upgrades. We should be able to offer you a brilliant deal. Mauna Lani Resort is located on the sunny Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, approximately 23 miles (37 kilometers) north of the Kona International Airport (KOA). The drive from the airport to the resort takes approximately 30-40 minutes.
2. Style & Character
The Four Seasons exudes a tropical desert island ambiance with low-rise architecture and breathtaking scenery. With its sprawling layout across vast lava rock formations and sandy beaches, this resort is a dreamy choice.
The Fairmont Orchid, nestled along the Kohala Coast, spans 32 acres of meticulously landscaped gardens featuring cascading waterfalls, tranquil ponds, and vibrant tropical flora. Its sprawling grounds create a serene oasis for guests to explore, offering a blend of manicured lawns and natural beauty that seamlessly blends with the coastal landscape.
Both resorts have beautiful grounds, but the Four Seasons grounds are more polished.
3. Beach & Pools
The pools at Hualalai are brilliant and numerous. At Four Seasons, Hualalai has eight pools, so it wins on this front, too. These pools range from an adults-only pool where you can enjoy cocktails and music to a dedicated kids pool, a lap pool, and, finally, an outdoor aquarium pool where you can swim with thousands of tropical fish. The Banyan Tree pool is steps from the beach.
The resort is built on the water’s edge, so all the beaches and coves are easily accessible from your room and the pools. The beach will probably be a shorter walk from your room at Hualalai.
Four Seasons Hualalai Vs Oahu. Which Is Best?
Which hotel is best, Four Seasons Hualalai or Oahu at Ko Olina? While both hotels are some of the best Four Seasons in Hawaii, we think Four Seasons Hualalai feels more remote and exclusive than Four Seasons Oahu. Four Seasons Hualalai offers many secluded coves not shared by any other hotel. The resort feels wild and remote compared to Four Seasons Oahu, which is located in the fairly built-up resort area of Ko Olina on Oahu.
It’s also worth mentioning that the beaches at Hualalai Resort are basking grounds for the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle. The multitude of Green Sea turtles that thrive here enjoy eating the limu (seaweed) off the rocks and resting on the sand or the rocks to warm their bodies. This can add an extra element of fun if you’re into wildlife.
If your top priority is a pool, the Fairmont Orchid boasts a spacious, inviting freestyle pool. The beautiful Fairmont pool area has lava-rock jacuzzis and a thatched-roof poolside bar. It is pretty and backed by tropical grounds, making this pool area stand out. But there is not the choice of pools at the Fairmont Orchid that there is at the Four Seasons Hualalai, and the beaches at Four Seasons Hualalai are better.
We prefer the rooms at Hualalai. We love the ones on the ground floor (Hualalai rooms are designed in 2-floor blocks). The ground floor rooms at Four Seasons Hualalai all have a blissful outdoor shower. From these rooms, you can walk out from my room onto the dewey lawns in the morning or even step out straight onto the beach if you book one of the beachfront rooms or suites.
Our top picks are the poolside room, where you can stroll from your private terrace to the pool for a quick dip or just enjoy the views of the verdant landscaped gardens from your private balcony. The ground floor poolside rooms aren’t so great for privacy, but they are a dream for easy access to the pool for the family.
If you can splurge, the one or two-bedroom Anelakai Suite on the lower level at Four Seasons Hualalai is fantastic. They open to an extended lanai with a plunge pool, private lawn, and direct access to the beach. An outdoor dining table inspires breakfasts with an ocean breeze and romantic dinners for two.
Fairmont Orchid Vs. Mauna Lani. Which Is Best?
Fairmont Orchid and Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection on the Big Island of Hawaii, are luxurious properties with unique offerings and beautiful settings. Below, we have outlined which is best for various attributes. Both hotels are luxurious and offer exceptional service and beautiful settings. Your choice might come down to the cost, which will change throughout the year. Other great hotel options on Hawaii's Big Island include Four Seasons Hualalai and Rosewood Kona Village.
Fairmont Orchid offers a range of rooms and suites, many with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean or the resort’s tropical gardens. The spacious rooms feature a blend of contemporary and traditional Hawaiian decor. The rooms at Fairmont Orchid are spacious and well-appointed, with sizes ranging from around 500 to 1,000 square feet for standard rooms and larger for suites.
Rooms at Fairmont Orchid feature upscale amenities such as luxurious bedding large marble bathrooms with views of either the ocean, garden, or resort grounds, but none have lava rock showers. The rooms at the Fairmont Orchid are great but not as great as the rooms at Four Seasons Hualalai.
5. Club Lounge
If you book a Gold Club room at the Fairmont Orchid, you will be whisked off to a separate check-in area. The Gold Lounge has juice, soft drinks, water, coffee, and tea throughout the day. They offer wine, champagne, and spirits in the honor system in the evenings. You simply note down what you have drunk, which will be charged to your room accordingly.
Evening appetizers are free of charge and usually include good cheeses, sushi rolls, olives, crackers, and fruit. In this lounge, one hot appetizer is also on offer. In the morning, there’s a complimentary continental breakfast with pastries, a hot entree, fruit, yogurt, granola, cheese, and fruit.
What is really special about this club lounge is that you are not restricted to staying inside. This lounge offers balcony seating out in the sunshine with views over the resort. This is one of the best club lounges in Hawaii .
Four Seasons Hualalai does not have a club lounge. The only Four Seasons hotel on the Hawaiian islands with a club lounge is the Four Seasons Maui.
Best Hotel Executive Club Lounge In Hawaii
Which hotels in Hawaii offer the best executive club level lounges? We review lounges across Oahu, including Waikiki, Maui, Kaanapali, Kapalua, Wailea, Kauai, Poipu, and Hanalei, and the Big Island's picturesque Kona-Kohala coast. I have compiled a list below containing the best club lounges available across the best luxury hotels in Hawaii. I list the ones I consider to be the best at the top. I review each of these hotel club lounges in detail so you know what you will get if you book a room with club lounge access.
Get a prioritized room upgrade at Fairmont Orchid or any Four Seasons hotel by booking via our luxury travel concierge .
6. Food & Drink
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai boasts diverse restaurants offering exquisite cuisine in breathtaking settings. ‘ULU Ocean Grill showcases locally sourced ingredients in its innovative Hawaiian-inspired dishes, served amidst panoramic ocean views.
Guests can savor authentic Italian fare at Beach Tree, where wood-fired pizzas and homemade pasta are enjoyed beachside under swaying palms. For a taste of Japan, ‘Olu Grill offers fresh sushi and seafood in a casual outdoor setting overlooking the ocean.
Fairmont Orchid offers multiple dining options, including a sushi bar, a beachside grill, and a fine-dining restaurant serving local Hawaiian cuisine.
Four Seasons Resort Hualalai has an excellent golf course crafted with sensitivity to its unique environment. This 18-hole, Jack Nicklaus signature, championship course winds over 7,100 yards, beginning in a lush oasis, flowing across bright green fairways contoured against black lava, and then returning to the ocean for the final holes.
Hotel Review: Four Seasons Hualalai, Hawaii
We have reviewed the best Four Seasons hotels in Hawaii, which includes the stunning Four Seasons Hualalai on Big Island, Hawaii. It may not be one of the cheapest Four Seasons hotels in the world, but it is definitely one of the best! Four Seasons Hualalai is located on Big Island, Hawaii, the one with the big and active Kilauea volcano, which means that the whole resort is built on the dramatic black rock and that you can take a trip to the live volcano if you like. It's worth bearing in mind that this island is pretty big, so the drive to see the volcano is lengthy if worthwhile.
The Mauna Lani Golf Experience near the Fairmont Orchid offers two championship golf courses: the North and South Courses. Known for its stunning ocean views, lava fields, and lush green fairways, these courses combine challenging play with the natural beauty of the Hawaiian landscape.
Mauna Lani Golf offers picturesque ocean views and historic petroglyphs, while Hualalai Golf boasts lush landscaping and stunning oceanfront holes, providing two completely unique and unforgettable golfing experiences on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The staff and service at Four Seasons are usually unmatched, and the staff at Four Seasons Hualalai are no exception. They are amazing.
Winter in Hawaii can be slightly cloudier and wetter from December to March, but it is a popular time to travel simply because the rest of the Northern Hemisphere is so miserable and cold. Pricing is reduced at all the hotels in the lower season. November and early December often offer the cheapest time of year to visit.
When comparing pricing, Fairmont Orchid is usually cheaper than the Hualalai Four Seasons. There are some cheaper Four Seasons hotels in Hawaii , such as Four Seasons Oahu, that are worth considering and require a smaller budget.
Cheapest Four Seasons Hotel In Hawaii
While all the Four Seasons hotels in Hawaii are very special, they are not all the same price, so in this review, we investigate the cheapest Four Seasons hotel in Hawaii. Four Seasons has five exclusive hotels in Hawaii; Four Seasons Hualalai (on Big Island), Four Seasons Lanai, Lanai at Koele, Four Seasons Maui at Wailea, and the Four Seasons Oahu at Ko Olina, which is the newest of the four. They are all gorgeous, and they are all pretty expensive.
9. Which Is Best?
Four Seasons Hulalai is secluded and low rise, has more pools, and has better beaches than the Fairmont Orchid. Fairmont Orchid has the advantage of costing less and housing one of the best club lounges in the Hawaiian Islands. Both resorts are fabulous, and we are nit-picking to find fault with either. You will have a wonderful time if you can stretch to stay at either.

Tswalu, South Africa: the ultimate destination for a luxury safari
Share this article
Motse accommodation at Tswalu private reserve in South Africa. Photo / Supplied
At Tswalu in South Africa , diamond tycoon Jonathan Oppenheimer has created the kind of luxury safari that most of us can only dream about, writes Catherine McGregor
It was when the mountains caught fire that we started to worry. A summer storm had rolled in over the Korannaberg ranges and lightning was slashing through the vast desert skies, setting the hillside alight before quickly being extinguished by the torrential rain. On the verandah, the clink of ice in our pre-dinner cocktails was being drowned out by the roar of thunder. It was time to go inside.
The summer rains bring life to the Kalahari Desert, the arid sandy savanna that straddles the border of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. At Tswalu Kalahari reserve in South Africa the rain can transform the parched land literally overnight. The landscape, once barren, is suddenly carpeted by thick tufted grass, spiky gemsbok cucumbers and tiny yellow dubbeltjie (little devil) flowers. For visitors, the odd lightning strike is a small price to pay for such abundance.
READ MORE: The luxury safari that’s better than winning Lotto
Located on the southern edge of the Kalahari, not far from the Botswana border, Tswalu is a truly unique safari experience. The property has been owned since 1999 by the billionaire Oppenheimer family, who once controlled the majority of South Africa’s diamond industry through their controlling stake in De Beers and now use their immense wealth to support their conservation and philanthropic efforts. Tswalu is not only South Africa’s largest private wildlife reserve, but arguably its most remote, at around 10 hours’ drive from either Cape Town or Johannesburg. Isolated and ultra exclusive, Tswalu just might be the ultimate destination safari.
The distance by road doesn’t bother most guests, since hardly any of them drive. Tswalu has its own private airport and offers a direct charter air service from both Johannesburg or Cape Town. For Tswalu’s mega wealthy clientele, flying in is a no-brainer. That airstrip is a game-changer, says Nigel Pace, Tswalu’s head of hospitality. “Yes, we’re really remote – but in terms of access, we’re actually easier to get to than places like Kruger or Sabi Sands.”
After touchdown, guests are collected by their drivers and depart for one of three luxury camps dotted across the vast reserve. Motse, Tswalu’s original camp, features nine guest suites, or legae (“home” in the local Setswana language) and has the feel of a relaxed-chic boutique hotel. The recently opened Loapi is a collection of six extraordinarily beautiful tented camps , each with a dedicated homathi (house manager) and chef. All six Loapi residences are located at least 100m from each other, with no communal or shared guest areas or services, allowing for an incredibly private stay.
My stay was at Tarkuni, an exclusive-use homestead designed for multi-generational families or parties of friends. Tarkuni accommodates up to 10 guests in five suites, each with their own private verandah, arranged around a living area featuring a spectacular double-height fireplace. Upstairs is a spa treatment suite and games room; out the front is a swimming pool and waterhole where baboons and antelope regularly come to drink.
With a total maximum of 40 guests in an area almost twice the size of urban Auckland , it’s hardly surprising that the word “private” comes up so much at Tswalu. If you’re staying at Loapi and Tarkuni, you can quite easily avoid ever seeing another soul, save for your own small team of staff. On top of that, every booking guarantees you a private 4×4 safari vehicle, including a dedicated guide and tracker, for the duration of your stay. More than anything, it’s this that puts Tswalu a cut above most other luxury safari experiences.
Having your own vehicle doesn’t only give you privacy – it makes each game drive a totally personalised experience. Want to focus on tracking lesser-known sub-species like the desert black rhino? No problem. Want to stay out all day? Can do. Tswalu’s guides and trackers know the reserve like the back of their hands, and are trained to create for you the most memorable safari experience possible. As your stay continues, your priorities can change, and the value of a private vehicle only increases. With your own vehicle, you’ll never find yourself stuck with day-one newbies who need the safari basics explained or want to stop to photograph every passing kudu – although if that’s something you still want to do, that’s absolutely okay too.
A Tswalu safari is as unique as the land itself. The aridity of the Kalahari means you won’t see any elephants or hippos here, and the sheer size of the reserve can sometimes make spotting animals a challenge. Don’t arrive expecting a Kruger-style wildlife buffet, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see plenty of amazing sights, like a lioness and her cubs contentedly chowing down on a zebra carcass at the edge of a water hole. For 10 minutes we sat quietly in our vehicle, snapping photos from just a few metres away, as the desert sun slowly set behind the horizon.
While it isn’t the place to spot the Big 5 around every corner, Tswalu boasts a remarkable number of species that are rarely seen elsewhere. Along with more common species like oryx, wildebeest, cheetah, buffalo, zebra and giraffe, the reserve is a wonderful place to see rare and endangered species including the Kalahari black-maned lion, desert black rhino and African wild dog. Tswalu offers a lucky few the chance to see the Temmick’s pangolin, one of the world’s most elusive mammals; if you get the chance to accompany the resident pangolin scientists on a nocturnal research outing, grab it.
Tswalu is also home to multiple colonies of meerkats, who have become used to human visitors through a painstaking habituating process. These charmingly gregarious creatures are best spotted in the early morning as they leave their burrows for the day, or at dusk, when they return. Like all wild creatures, however, no viewing is ever guaranteed. Despite the best efforts of Tswalu’s tracking team, we sadly didn’t see any meerkats on our visit. It’s a tribute to the power of the Kalahari landscape that our sunrise walk to the burrows, and the Jeep-side breakfast afterwards – magicked seemingly out of thin air by our guide – remains one of my favourite memories of our stay.
Along with preserving wildlife, making memories is what Tswalu is all about. On our drive back to the homestead, our guide told us that bush dining is one of the experiences guests request most often – whether that means a fully hosted braai with butler service and a mobile kitchen for a group, or a secluded gourmet picnic for two (with a staff vehicle positioned nearby, just in case). Other once-in-a-lifetime experiences include a night under the stars in one of Tswalu’s “star beds”, private camps whose level of luxury puts most other glamp-outs to shame.
There’s one special Tswalu experience that towers above all others, and that’s dinner at Klein Jan, the incredible on-site restaurant founded by Michelin-starred South African chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen. It’s the sort of dining experience that relies in part on the element of surprise – so if eating here is on your bucket list, look away now. The magic begins when you pull up outside what appeared to be a ramshackle farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. This is actually the Klein Jan entrance building, where we sat on the stoep, or verandah, and drank cocktails as the thunderstorm rolled in.
We were guided through the farmhouse and into a door on the side of what looked like a disused water tank. Suddenly we were descending a staircase wrapped around a waterfall, then led through more jewel-box spaces and into a spectacular glass-walled dining room. While Klein Jan is open to non-guests for lunch – people fly in and out just to spend a few hours eating here – dinner is for Tswalu guests only, and is included with every two-night stay. The tasting menu at Klein Jan is a journey through both South African culinary history and the natural world of the Kalahari, utilising such unfamiliar ingredients (at least to me) as fever berry, xigugu (a traditional corn and peanut paste), kaiings (crackling) and boerbok (South African goat). As we ate, lightning carved through the sky, the landscape fleetingly illuminated before being plunged back into the inky black darkness of a desert night.
The next morning dawned clear and bright, the previous evening’s torrential rain already absorbed by the thirsty red sand. For our last experience, we were going horse riding – a prospect that initially had me slightly anxious, but which, I was assured, was perfectly safe in this part of the reserve. After the exhilaration of the previous few days, a quiet hour on horseback was the ideal end to our stay. With no engine noise or whirr of camera shutters, we could hear the Kalahari’s birds bursting into song in celebration of the rain. Above, the desert sky was enormous and blue; around us, the ochre sand was stippled with summer green. At our dismounting site, the riding guides removed our horses’ saddles and bridles. As we climbed into our Jeep for the last time, the horses set off at a gallop, back across the savannah and towards home.

10 of the World’s Finest Interior-Designed Hotels 2024
Posted: March 1, 2024 | Last updated: March 1, 2024

This adorable bistro table set is perfect for smaller spaces like balconies, patios, porches and gardens. It's also ideal for apartment-dwellers, since it folds up for easy storage. The powder-coated steel finish can be used outdoors, but is best suited in a dry, covered area.

Skamania Lodge offers first look at its fancy new glamping tents

This May, visitors to the Columbia River Gorge will have a new, luxurious glamping experience to try.
Skamania Lodge , the 175-acre Washington resort near Stevenson, offered a sneak peak this week into its new glamping tents, which will open to the public May 1 and are available to book now through the end of the season.
The wood-framed safari-style tents, which come with king beds and private bathrooms, are built on a hillside surrounded by trees, giving visitors the chance to sleep, relax and even bathe in the comfort of nature. While perhaps a step down from the lodge’s luxury treehouses or cabins, the glamping tents are certainly a step up from your basic hotel room, while barely resembling camping at all.
Jack Hansen, director of sales and marketing for Skamania Lodge, said the glamping tents are expected to be available from May through October, though the full extent of the season won’t be clear until after this first year.
“I do think that it’s a bit of an experiment,” Hansen said. “We’re going to see what the appetite for them is.”

Glamping at Skamania Lodge starts at $519 per night on offseason weekdays, rising through the summer and peaking at $1,069 per night over the Fourth of July weekend. Visitors can find slightly discounted prices in October, when the nightly rate dips down to $499 for a stay in what could be colder and wetter conditions.
“We’ll probably test them a bit this fall and see how it is to stay in there in October,” Hansen said of the new tents. “You don’t know until you know.”
Unlike traditional camping, the glamping tents all come with running water and electricity. Each comes with a small space heater and fan, though that is the extent of the climate control. The front flaps zip up and down, allowing guests to seal themselves in or be open to the fresh air. There is furniture inside, as well as an outdoor couch and chairs by a gas fire feature.
Guests can still enjoy the many amenities at the main lodge nearby, including yoga classes, a golf course and putting course, disc golf, an adventure park, ziplining and axe throwing, as well as meals at one of two dining rooms – a necessary amenity for glamping guests, who will only find a microwave and mini fridge in their tents.
Hansen said the new glamping experience will be part of “Treehouse Village,” where the new tents join the luxury treehouses, cabins and a villa. More of each type of accommodation may be built there in the future, depending on popularity, he said.
The new glamping tents have already been booked up through most of May, but a lot of availability remains through the summer . Hansen said the lodge has been excited about the new offerings, and is looking forward to seeing how popular they become.
“There’s a lot of buzz about them,” he said. “Glamping over the last decade has really come into more peoples’ vocabularies, everybody knows what it is, so it’s really nice to see our owners put their spin on it – you know, glamping Skamania style.”

The Most Beautiful Stations on the Moscow Metro
You might have heard that there are some beautiful metro stations in Moscow. Soviet decorations, chandeliers, mosaic painting and statues are common in many of the stations. The good news is that the Moscow Metro does not cost a lot of money and many of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro are on the same line, so you can almost get on and off at each station to visit these. Over the New Year holidays, I had a free afternoon and decided to visit some of these stations. Check out what I found below…..
The main stations that you will want to visit are on the Number 5 line, also known as the Circle Line. An advantage of this line is that you can get to it very easily and quickly no matter where you are in Moscow. The announcements on the metro are in Russian as well as English so you don’t need to worry if your Russian language skills are not good.
If, like me, you arrive in Moscow via train from Kyiv , then you will arrive at a metro station which many Muscovites believe to be the most beautiful of them all…..
Kievskaya metro station was opened in 1954 and features white marble walls which curve upwards and have with large mosaics surrounded by a gold trim in a very classical style. The mosaics depict life in Ukraine and was designed by a Ukrainian who wanted to display Ukraine’s influence and contribution to Soviet Russia.

Belorusskaya
If you look at a map of the metro , you will want to go in a clockwise direction on the circle line. So you will want to get on the train going in the Barrikadnaya direction and not Park Kultury. Stay on this line until you reach the 2nd station, Belorusskaya. This station was built in 1952 and like Kievskaya also features white marble pylons and a plaster ceiling.
The ceiling features 12 mosaics in an octagonal shape depicting Belarusian life, while the tiling on the floor is said to resemble a Belarusian quilt. One of the passageway exits of the station has a statue called ‘Belarusian Partisans’ of three men wearing long coats, holding guns and carrying a flag.”

Mayakovskaya
To get to the next station, we need to change onto the green line (line 2) and go just one stop to the station of Mayakovskaya. This station has an art deco theme and, for some, resembles an elaborate ballroom. The columns are faced with stainless steel and pink rhodonite while the marble walls and ceiling have 34 mosaics with the theme “24-hour Soviet Sky. Apparently, Stalin resided here during the 2nd World War as the station was used as a command post for Moscow’s anti-aircraft regiment.

Novoslobodskaya
It’s time to get back on the metro and return to Belorusskaya. At Belorusskaya, change to the circle line again and continue clockwise to the next station, Novoslobodskaya. With its 32 stained glass panels, this station reminds me of a church. The panels were designed by Latvian artists and are surrounded by a brass border.

The golden trim around artwork is also very common
Prospekt Mira
Back on the metro and again just one stop until our next station, Prospekt Mira. This station was originally called Botanichesky Sad after the nearby Botanical Gardens of the Moscow State University. The pylons are covered in white marble and decorated with floral bas-relief friezes. The ceiling is decorated with casts and several cylindrical chandeliers.

Komsomolskaya
On the metro once more and once more we are going just one stop to the next station – Komsomolskaya. This station is famous for its its yellow ceiling. The chandeliers in this station are huge. The photos below do not do this station justice. For me, this station resembles a presidential palace. You hace to see it for yourself to truly appreciate it.
Because of it’s location, this is one of the busiest stations in the Moscow metro as it serves three of the main train stations in the city – Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, and Kazansky so be prepared for a lot of people.

Elektrozavodskaya
When you are ready to leave Komsomolskaya metro station behind, then get back on the circle line and go one stop to Kurskaya and change to the blue line (line 3) and go to two stops to the Elektrozavodskaya station. This station gets it’s name from a nearby electric light bulb factory and has a somewhat industrial but also futuristic style, with 6 rows of circular lamps (there are 318 lamps in total). I think this is one of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro for how unique it is. The station was opened in 1944 after a delay because of the 2nd World War and features 12 marble bas-reliefs of the struggle on the home front during the war.

Ploschad Revolyutsii
Back on the metro line 3 (but in the other direction), getting off at the 3rd stop – Ploschad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). This is located underneath the square in Moscow of the same name and is a short walk from Red Square in the city centre. It is the perfect place to end a visit around Moscow’s metro. The station features red and yellow marble arches with a total of 76 sculptures in between each arch. The sculptures are supposed to represent the people of the Soviet Union and include soldiers, farmers, industrial workers, children etc… I noticed a lot of people touching the golden chicken in the photo below as well as the show of the woman. I am assuming that this is for good luck.

These are some of what I think are the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro. Which ones are your favourite? Would you add any to this list?

Kievskaya definitely caught me off guard. Didn’t know Moscow metro stations were THIS extravagant! Mayakovskaya is gorgeous too with the marble walls and mosaics. I might just need to book a flight over to admire all of these!
Do it! Kievskaya was my first introduction to the Moscow metro as I got an overnight train from Kyiv.
You know, in the States, all we ever hear is bad stuff about Russia. It’s nice to see other (and lovely!) dimensions of such a controversial place.
It’s the same in the UK which is why I prefer going to see somewhere and making up my own mind. It’s all ‘politics and bullshit’ as I say
I went to Moscow about 13years for Christmas and went to train stations, so I can see these amazing mosaics and chandeliers. I agree with you that are beautiful Stations for sure and I could of wandered around for days. I think Kievskaya is definitely my favourite out of them all and I even have some similar pictures as you.
I imagine Moscow would have been a little different 13 years ago but these stations have probably always looked beautiful
Food and Footprints
You chose some great stations for this write up! Beautiful details in these stations and would love to visit them sometime. Particularly like the Komsomolskaya station with that yellow ceiling!
Thank you very much. Komsomolskaya seems to be a lot of peoples favourite stations too
Sumit Surai
Wow! Without the text I would have thought them to be some museum or gallery.
I know exactly what you mean!
Rosie Fluskey
Wow, it is just stunning! How does anyone get to work with so much to look at. I’m surprised at the very bourgeois-looking Komsomolskaya station. I would have thought it was all too Tzarist looking, but then I haven’t been to Russia yet lol. This has just made me want to go more!
Wow, that’s a lot of artwork. I wonder how old some of these pieces are?
Generally most of the stations are from 1940-1960 approximately. The later stations are more functional than style.
My mother-in-law was in Moscow fifty years ago and still raves about the metro stations. So far, I could not imagine much. But now! The pictures are great and I think it’s almost a pity that this splendor is underground. But for every user of the Metro can enjoy a free trip to the world of art. Susanne
True. It is like having a free trip to an art museum/gallery. I hope that you can one day visit Moscow and see for yourself.
Oh wow, I would never have known that these were metro stations. The ceilings remind me of how you need to look up sometimes, even in the commuter rush!
It is true about life in general, we just go from A to B looking directly in front of us instead of around us
Wow, I would have never guessed that these were stations. The decor is so pretty and not one I’m used to seeing at metro stations. Love the ceiling at The Komsomolskaya metro station.
They certainly don’t look like metro stations. The ceiling there is one of my favourites too!
