T+L's editors have traveled to countries all over the world, having flown, sailed, road tripped, and taken the train countless miles. With a breadth of knowledge about destinations around the globe, air travel, cruises, hotels, food and drinks, outdoor adventure, and more, they are able to take their real-world experience and provide readers with tried-and-tested trip ideas, in-depth intel, and inspiration at every point of a journey.

Few travelers are as insightful or engaged as the readers of Travel + Leisure , which is why our annual World’s Best Awards are considered the travel industry’s most trusted rankings. Each year, you share your opinions on a broad range of experiences based on recent trips you’ve taken. For 2023, we have a whopping 122 lists of reader favorites, including two brand-new categories: trains and luxury villa rental companies.
For this 28th edition of the awards, hundreds of thousands of votes were cast in an extensive survey that was open Oct. 24, 2022, through Feb. 27, 2023 via a secure website that was maintained and monitored by our research partner, Proof Insights. Respondents had the option to rate airlines, airports, car-rental companies, cities, cruise ships, destination spas, hotels, hotel brands, islands, luxury villa rental companies, safari outfitters, tour operators, trains, and U.S. national parks based on a number of characteristics for which they could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.
After the survey closed, T+L and Proof Insights screened the responses to identify fraudulent votes, which were eliminated from the final tallies. You can read more about how voting works below in the survey methodology.
Cheers to you — and to this year’s winners!

Who can enter the Skift IDEA Awards?
The Skift IDEA Awards are designed to recognize and celebrate the most innovative ideas that are reshaping and elevating the travel industry. We encourage entries from all corners of the world, from large enterprises to small startups, all contributing to the continuous evolution of travel and tourism.
We welcome entries from a diverse range of travel-related fields, including hospitality, aviation, technology, tourism, sustainability, and more.
How do I enter?
All entries for the Skift IDEA Awards need to be submitted through our online portal . This online platform will hold all of your Skift IDEA Awards entries in one place, where you can view, edit and even copy submissions should you wish to enter more than one category.
The online platform will also allow you to view all categories, criteria and the opportunity to download blank PDF entry forms for your reference.
What does the 2024 timeline look like?
Following the close of the submission window, all entries will be reviewed and scored internally by the Skift Editorial Team, who have a wealth of experience and knowledge across all industries of the travel industry. Following this internal review, our shortlist will be selected.
Following the announcement of the shortlist, all successfully shortlisted submissions will be passed on to our independent judging panel for final scoring and review in order to select the winners.
How much does it cost to enter?
The cost to enter the Skift IDEA Awards increases the closer we get to the final entry deadline. Please see below the full timeline for entry costs:
- Early-Bird pricing: $449, ends 14 March, 2024.
- Regular pricing: $549, ends 8 May, 2024.
- Final pricing: $599, ends 30 June, 2024.
Does the entry cost guarantee an award or only a chance to be chosen?
The entry fee does not guarantee an award, but all entries will be reviewed by our selection committee. The finalists will be announced on Skift.com and will be reviewed by our judges to make the final designation for each category.
Does the price include all costs after entry or is there an additional cost if chosen?
There is no additional cost to enter aside from the entry fee.
How many entries does one payment cover?
Each entry requires payment, which is stated within the entry process in the platform for reference.
Can I submit multiple entries?
Yes, it’s permissible to enter multiple categories as long as they are unique entries and the entries are tailored to the category criteria.
Is there a discount for multiple entries?
Yes, once you submit your first application, you will receive a 25%-off code for additional orders in the initial confirmation email. This code is not applicable to your first entry.
Which payment methods are available?
Payment must be made with a credit card. For any payment queries, please reach out to the team .
Is there a timeframe during which the campaigns being submitted need to fall under?
The entry should be active in 2024, but it is OK if it has launched up to six months earlier as long as it is still in the market or has an impact in 2024. We are also happy to further review your entry and advise.
How can I confirm that my entry was submitted?
The easiest way to check is to sign in to your account and go to the “My Entries” tab. If you do not find your entry, please email us at [email protected] and we will assist.
Once I submit my entry, can I continue editing it? If yes, until when?
Yes, after submitting the entry fee, you may continue editing your entry until the final deadline. That said, we recommend submitting early to secure the best entry rate.
How much information needs to be provided in order to submit?
There is no minimum – you can leave anything “TBD” within the entry prompts in order to pay and secure the best entry rate. You will then be able to access your submission from the “My Entries” tab and continue editing your entry ahead of the deadline.
I’m unsure what category my brand falls under… Help!?
You are welcome to submit your entry for the category you see most fit, as there is leeway within many of the categories to make a case. Our best advice is to tell your story on how your product/campaign impacts its intended user, and how you’ve partnered within the travel sector to provide value to the traveler.
Some material within my entry has not been cleared yet – how can it stay confidential until it is cleared?
Within your entry, please let us know what can and cannot be published. If your entry gets chosen as a finalist/winner, we may ask for a revised version with cleared materials so we can post when announcing results. Otherwise, we would use only what is cleared to publish publicly.
What assets will need to be included within my entry?
As standard, you will be required to provide a high-resolution company logo and a supporting image in order to submit your nomination. These assets will be used to generate a personalized brand kit (should your submission successfully advance through the process).
The platform also offers the option to include supporting documentation to enhance your written submission. We strongly recommend using this feature, as it provides valuable context. You can include press coverage, testimonials, videos, and more. Instructions for incorporating these elements are provided throughout the process.
When will the shortlist and winners be announced?
The shortlist will be announced in July 2024, followed by the winner announcement in August 2024.
How are the Skift IDEA Awards judged?
Entries are scored on the criteria of:
- Purpose: Does it solve a problem?
- Innovation: Does it contribute to the future of the industry?
- Originality: Does it stand out and challenge the status quo?
- Impact: Does it have a meaningful impact on the traveler journey, business, or society?
Entries are scored based on the category criteria set out within the submission form. Each element of the form will be judged by our independent judging panel using a numerical value, with each judge score being added together to form an average score per panel. This formula enables us to ensure the scoring is as objective as possible.
Who will be a part of this year’s jury?
Aside from Skift editors, our jury is typically composed of creative business and innovation leaders from sectors adjacent to travel, who have expertise and a unique vantage point on design and consumer behavior. Our judges are involved on a voluntary basis and hand-picked by our team.
I wish to cancel my Skift IDEA Awards submission, will I receive a refund for my entry?
Entry submissions to Skift IDEA Awards are non-refundable.
My submission has been unsuccessful, will you be able to provide me with feedback?
Due to the number of entries we receive, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide individual feedback on each entry. However, please feel free to reach out to the team on [email protected] and we will endeavor to help however we can.
Still have questions?
Please reach out to [email protected] and a member of the team will be happy to assist.

No matter your scope of coverage, you are qualified to enter the Hotel Awards where you will showcase your strengths in the sector for the panel to see. If you are well presented and packaged, then you can be sure of getting the nod.
The best hotels will not necessarily win the award if the story is not told with the right words that count. Smart hotel owners choose a platform that has credibility and a track record of performance in the sector. When you are on the right platform, you are guaranteed the best results when the draws for winners come up.
The winner of Luxury Hotel Awards 2024 must come up with a professional template that will detail all the achievements of the year in luxury hotel management. Every entry in this category needs experts. You are a winner when you choose the right platform.
Hospitality Awards
If you are involved in a hotel, spa, or restaurant or you are an individual player in the sector, this is the time to blow your trumpet for the entire world. The time for the Hospitality Awards is here again. Entries are coming in for the awards in this category and you need a strong platform.
The success stories of past winners in this award cannot be told without the mention of a solid platform that helped in telling the story in words and very clear images. The platform can make or mar the chances of any vendor.
For the best results that count in Hospitality Industry Awards 2024, the right platform is required to help showcase your strengths and abilities over the past 12 calendar months. When you are well packaged, you can expect the best results on offer.

We are in an age where professionalism matters in every sector. If you want to excel in the Tourism industry Awards of the moment, then your entry must be handled by competent professionals. When you are properly managed, you can expect nothing but the best results on offer.
Airline Industry Awards
The tourism industry is not complete without mentioning the big roles that were played by the Airlines, Private Jets, Jet Tour operators, and other airline industries in the sector. Your role in this sector can add value to your brand in Airlines Awards for 2024. The selection process will be easy for operators that use a very strong platform.
If you have entered past events and you have gotten nothing to show for your efforts, it is because of the platform of your choice. No matter your scope or level of operation, you need a strong voice that will be there for you in the 2024 Aviation Awards.
When you are with a very strong platform that has a record of brilliant performances in the industry, the results will come your way. In the Aviation Industry Awards for 2024, you cannot be a winner without a strong platform.
Cruise Industry Awards
In the hospitality sector, the role played by the cruise industry cannot go unrecognized. The Cruise Liner Awards for 2024 is here again, and companies are putting in their entries. The majority of the entries are there to fill up the number. The contenders that have something to show over the years trust reliable platforms to give them the edge in the selection process.
The foundation for success begins with the choice of a reliable platform that will help push your interests in the award to the top. When you partner with a reliable host, the chances of your brand getting positive notice will be enhanced.
A company that is serious about getting the best results in the 2024 Cruise Awards must commit its entry into the hands of reputable platforms that have the ability and capacity to blow the trumpet at the rooftops. When you are handled and packaged by professionals, your chance of remaining the last entry standing in your category will be the brightest among the competitors that are competing with you.
Yacht Awards
Several arms come together to make up the hospitality industry. For those that are involved, in the movement of fun seekers across the various places of interest across the world, the opportunity to position their brand in the market is here again through the Yacht Awards 2024. Entries are going on and brands are putting in their nominations. All that is required to excel is the right platform.
A successful yacht company that wants to the top needs professional packaging. You cannot tell your story in a moving way that will send home the message without the involvement of the pros in the sector. History shows that past winners have the backup of reputable platforms.
If you want your company to be counted among the winners in this year’s edition of the Award for Yacht company, then your entry needs a professional touch and you will only get this through competent platforms. The vehicle that will make your entry visible is no other than a viable platform.

Right to disconnect
Eligible employees have the right to refuse employer or third-party contact outside of working hours in some circumstances.
On this page:
Awards and agreements, tips for discussing out of hours contact, protections, tools and resources, related information.
For small business employers and their employees, the right to disconnect provisions apply from 26 August 2025 .
Employees of non-small business employers have the right to refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact (or attempted contact) outside their working hours, unless doing so is unreasonable. This includes contact (or attempted contact) from an employer or a third party.
Third party could include clients, suppliers, staff from other businesses, or members of the public.
Contact could include a range of communication channels used to engage with employees, such as calls, emails, texts, social media and messaging services.
Employers and employees are encouraged to discuss contact out of hours and set expectations that suit the workplace and the employee’s role. Find Tips for discussing out of hours contact .
When working out whether an employee’s refusal is unreasonable, the following factors must be considered:
- the reason for the contact
- how the contact is made and how disruptive it is to the employee
- being available to perform work during the period they’re contacted, or
- working additional hours outside their ordinary hours of work
- the employee’s role in the business and level of responsibility
- the employee’s personal circumstances, including family or caring responsibilities.
Other matters may also be considered.
It will be unreasonable for an employee to refuse to read, monitor or respond if the contact or attempted contact is required by law.
Example: Employee’s personal circumstances make out of hours contact unreasonable
Selim is a consultant and is working on a major project for a client. Selim has 2 young children. He has flexible working arrangements and his working hours are 7.30 am to 4 pm so that he can pick up his children from daycare.
At 4.30 pm on a Tuesday afternoon, Selim’s supervisor, Ava, is copied into an urgent email to Selim from the client. Ava considers whether to contact Selim and ask him to action the client’s request. It’s urgent and Selim is very familiar with this aspect of the client’s work. However, Ava knows that Selim is on his way to pick up his children and it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to deal with the request.
Ava asks another consultant to help the client and will update Selim when he returns to work. Ava’s decision is appropriate given Selim’s family responsibilities and the fact that another employee could resolve the issue.
Example: Employee is compensated for reasonable out of hours contact
Elizabeth is an associate at a medium-sized architecture firm where she usually works 8.30 am to 5 pm.
Elizabeth has been asked to fill in for her manager who is taking 3 months leave. During this period, Elizabeth will need to lead the delivery of a project for a major client. She is receiving extra pay while acting in her manager’s role.
Her supervising partner, Devi, has let Elizabeth know that a reasonable amount of out of hours contact and work will be required during her acting period to deliver the project. She is also told that this has been factored into her higher pay.
Devi gives her a copy of the firm’s policy on out of hours contact and asks if she has any questions.
In her second week in the role, Elizabeth leaves work at 5 pm. Shortly after, Devi finds out that Elizabeth’s team needs to urgently provide the client with additional documents for the project by 10 am tomorrow. It will take around 3 hours to prepare the documents. Devi tries to call Elizabeth on her personal mobile and sends her a text message explaining the situation.
Elizabeth doesn’t answer the calls as she’s about to go to the gym and then run some errands. She reads the full message at 8 pm but decides that it’s too late to respond to Devi. Based on the circumstances, Elizabeth’s refusal to monitor or respond to Devi’s contact could be unreasonable.
Awards, enterprise agreements and other registered agreements can also include additional right to disconnect provisions.
All awards include a right to disconnect term.
Award changes
The Fair Work Commission added right to disconnect terms to all awards on 26 August 2024. Learn more at Variation of modern awards to include a right to disconnect .
In some situations, an employee may be required to monitor, read or respond to contact (or attempted contact) from the employer outside their working hours in accordance with an award term.
More award information will be available on this page soon. Check back for further updates. In the meantime, you can check your award for right to disconnect rules that apply for your industry or occupation.
If you're covered by an enterprise or other registered agreement, check the terms of your agreement for information about the right to disconnect. To find an enterprise agreement, go to the Fair Work Commission’s website .
Regular and open communication helps maintain a harmonious working environment. It can also prevent workplace problems from happening. Both employees and employers are responsible for open and effective communication at and about work. Learn more about good workplace communication practices.
Employers and employees are encouraged to discuss out of hours contact and set expectations that suit the workplace and the employee’s role. Where possible, there are benefits to having these conversations before out of hours contact happens.
A discussion about out of hours contact could include:
It’s important employees know when they can disconnect from work and when they may be expected to monitor, read or respond to contact.
For example, a specialist technical engineer is told that while out of hours contact isn’t common, they may be contacted out of hours in response to a critical technical outage. They don’t need to monitor emails, but will be expected to answer or return a phone call about a serious outage.
It’s important to check the relevant award, enterprise agreement or employment contract for entitlements that may apply. Learn more about Pay and wages and Employment conditions .
For example, if there’s a serious issue, an employee may prefer to be called on their personal phone so that they don’t have to monitor a work phone or email account.
For example, managers and supervisors may formalise arrangements for out of hours contact and communicate those arrangements with senior leaders. For external clients, managers and supervisors may consider whether and how they should discuss expectations about communication with their clients.
For example, the arrangement could be reviewed on a regular basis or when there’s a change in an employee’s hours (such as a change to hours or work due to a flexible work arrangement).
Employers should also consider:
For example, managers can develop their skills by:
- completing our Difficult conversations in the workplace manager online course .
- reading our Consultation and cooperation in the workplace guide.
Employees can develop their skills by completing our Difficult conversations in the workplace employee course .

Tip: Guidance on the right to disconnect
The Australian Public Service Commission has published guidance on the right to disconnect in the public service sector .
The Fair Work Commission has published a video on understanding the new right to disconnect as well as a Right to disconnect fact sheet . They’re also required to make guidelines about the operation of the right to disconnect. These are not yet available.
Disputes about an employee’s right to disconnect should first be discussed at the workplace level to try to resolve the dispute.
If that isn’t successful, employees or employers can go to the Fair Work Commission (the Commission) to deal with the dispute. The Commission can make orders or deal with the dispute in other ways. This includes making orders to stop an employee from refusing contact or to stop an employer from taking certain actions.
You can read more at the Commission’s Right to disconnect disputes page.
Tip: We’re different from the Fair Work Commission
A reminder that the Commission is the national workplace relations tribunal and registered organisations regulator.
We’re the Fair Work Ombudsman. Our role is to give you advice and assistance on workplace laws.
Learn more about the difference between us (the Fair Work Ombudsman) and the Fair Work Commission .
The right to disconnect is a workplace right under general protection laws . These laws are protected rights employees have under the Fair Work Act.
