The Stranglers is a British pop punk/ rock band from Guilford, Surrey. The band currently consists of Jet Black, Jean-Jacques Burnel and Baz Warne.

The band was created in 1974, originally called The Guilford Stranglers by drummer Brian Duffy (aka Jet Black), and was also joined by bassist/vocalist Jean-Jacques Burnel, guitarist/vocalist Hugh Cornwell and keyboardist Hans Wämling (who was replaced a year later by Dave Greenfield). Having played as the opening band for some of the biggest punk rock artists like The Ramones and Patti Smith, they also became associated with the burgeoning scene; however, because each musician had a background in either jazz or classical, they were questioned about the authenticity of pure punk rock.

Their earliest albums were released in a span of 13 months, “Rattus Norvegicus,” “No More Heroes,” and “Black and White” and were all highly successful. Despite strong record sales, however, their Monty-Python-esque personas gained mixed reviews, further adding to the run ins with media that they had. Throughout the 70s they spent a chunk of time touring in Japan and taking part in the growing alternative music scene; consequently, they were the only foreign band that took part in the scene.

During 1979 Burnel released a solo album, “Euroman Cometh,” and had been playing with the band ARB, but that did not deter The Stranglers, as a year later, they released “The Raven.” Because of the success of the album, in addition to the success of all their other albums, they were given free creative freedom for the next album, resulting in “The Gospel According to the Meninblack,” a concept album about religion. Unfortunately, the record didn’t do so well and was their lowest placing album, however they “redeemed” themselves with their “La Folie” release in 1981.

The success of “La Folie” attracted various music labels, and eventually The Stranglers signed with Epic Records, who gave them artistic freedom. Their first album with Epic was “Feline,” released in 1983; and while it didn’t quite meet expectations, still fared well. Together they released three more albums, and in 1990 Cornwell left the band to pursue a solo career, leaving the band to recruit John Ellis to replace him, and added Paul Roberts for vocal parts. This new lineup recorded four albums through a six-year period. By 2000 Baz Warne stepped in to take over John Ellis’ spot (who had left the band), and the band had a newfound success streak throughout 2004 and 2005.

Despite rumors of a retirement in 2008, the band continued to tour and play worldwide festivals, and in 2010 released a compilation album. Following “Decades Apart” they released “Giants” in 2012, and set out on tour throughout the United Kingdom in 2013.

Live reviews

This was my 24th Stranglers gig, having first seen them back on the No More Heroes Tour in the late 1970s when I was still at school.

Many (former) fans complain that the band are not the same, or as good, as they wee when Hugh Cornwell was dinger-guitarist, before leaving in 1990. yet their last two albums with the original line-up were awful; they had clearly run out of ideas and steam.

Now, however, with Baz Warne on guitar (a black telecaster, like Hugh played) and vocals, The Stranglers are rejuvenated and re-energised, and some of their newer material (Relentless, Freedom is Insane) is as good as their early material.

So their Bristol 2017 gig was superb - one of the best gigs I've seen them do.

As they wee not promoting a new album, they trawled their back catalogue, and even played some rarer tracks, such as Bear Cage. The sound was crystal clear, the musicianship faultless - Jean-Jacques Burnel remains a fantastic and mesmerising bassist, the bass low-slung as he prowled the stage, and did the occasional trademark karate-kick while playing - and the band were clearly enjoying themselves, joking and bantering with each other, and with the audience.

During Peaches, Baz cheekily sang: 'I can think of a lot worse places to be... like the f***** Colston Hall', a wry did at an all-seater venue across the road, which tends to have AOR bands!!

A suberb gig from a band enjoying a new lease of life.

The Stranglers were the first concert I ever went to. I was about 15 at the time, and could not have asked for a better first experience of live music! They were great fun and they worked so well in the small arena I saw them in. The atmosphere was amazing, and everyone was having an amazing time. The lead singer really engaged with the music, and the most memorable part of the concert was when the keyboardist downed a pint during his solo. This meant as soon as they were playing again in my area two years later, I didn't hesitate to buy another ticket. They were just as good the second time, and I would definitely buy their tickets again. Even if you don't know their music so well, they are great fun to listen to, and you will definitely enjoy yourself at their concert. What I also liked about them is that yes, they played most their well known songs, and they had the whole audience joining in- no one was standing still enjoying the music, unfortunately that's not possible!- but they also played some of their less famous songs, which were just as enjoyable. The lead signer didn't hold back, he was enjoying the music as much as we were, and dancing around stage. It was obvious how much he loved performing, which gave the concert that extra edge which you don't always find. Would definitely recommend without a doubt!

It’s widely agreed that 1977 was the year that marked the birth of punk as we know it, and even if that’s primarily because it’s the year that saw the release of Never Mind the Bollocks, it’s no coincidence that another seminal album of the era, No More Heroes by The Stranglers, was also released around that time. That was already the Guilford four-piece’s second album, and they’ve gone on to show scant regard for what the Sex Pistols did, where record releases are concerned; their most recent full-length, 2012’s Giants, was their seventeenth. Celebrating their fortieth anniversary as a band this year, two of the original members remain, and Dave Greenfield’s been involved for thirty-nine of those years himself; you have to admit, though, that the departure of Hugh Cornwell in 1990 means that this isn’t quite the real Stranglers. Try telling that to the crowd that continue to pack rooms across the UK, with the band touring pretty much annually; after replacing Paul Roberts in 2006, Baz Warne is doing a fine job of handling classics like ‘No More Heroes’ and ‘Golden Brown’, and you get the impression that there’d be no shortage of job applications should he ever step down - The Stranglers are just one of those bands with a fanbase that refuses to let them go.

After taking multiple trips overseas to see The Men In Black, I was extremely excited to see them locally. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve seen them in Los Angeles.

I can empathically say they did not disappoint. Not only did we get to hear the staples, “Grip”, “No More Hero’s”, “Duchess”,”Golden Brown”, etc. We were given the gift of two new unrecorded cuts that sounded great. The caveat was their delving into the songbook and playing exceptional cuts that surprised even me. “Time To Die” from Stranglers In The Night. Multiple cuts from the outstanding album The Raven including “Baroque Bordello” which blew me away. They even dusted off “Nubiles”.

These boys tour relentlessly and it shows. Tight as a frogs behind, they tore through the 2 hour set with such ferocity the hairs on the back of my neck were standing on end the entire show.

The greatest and arguably the most underrated band in the world truly gave us a gift long overdue.

The band wee great, but unfortunately due to mixing or otherwise, the vocals keyboards and guitars were drowned out by way too much bass. I know Stranglers music has a bassy bass, but either the speaker system couldn’t handle the bass or the mixing was a disaster.

A pity, as in spaces where the bass hadn’t kicked in, the vocals, keyboard and guitar were strong and high quality. I was standing beside the mixing booth, and several people were complaining in my vicinity. Don’t think it was because of my location as the opening show by Therapy? was well mixed.

Should have been more of a treat, as the Olympia is a pretty special and intimate venue. Baz Warne did a good job on vocals, but I’d really like to hear Hugh Cornwall perform the originals.

Wasn’t sure what to expect as it’s been a while ( about 40 years) but couldn’t resist because they came up to Aberdeen. Glad I did tho wasn’t disappointed!

Audience of a certain age but a packed venue with great atmosphere and a wee bonus of Dr Feelgood to start with !

Was good to hear the old numbers but enjoyed all the new stuff to ! And tho slightly different still unmistakably The Stranglers !!

Might be a bit sad but I really enjoyed the birthday roadie coming on and dancing to Bring on the nubiles in a fetching outfit ! It is a vision that will probably remain with me for a while p

Great gig! Great venue! Great sound! Great band in real fine form! Superb setlist playing mainly songs from the first four albums and a selection from the following ones! It was a brilliant concert where clearly they were having as much fun playing as us listening! The crowd was very enthusiastic and participated a lot, probably due to the fact a coach or two of english fans came specially for the Paris event... I do hope they’ll continue rocking the way they did, I’ll catch them next time too, for sure. (I’ve seen them 5 or 6 times, first time 1983 Feline Tour)

Peaches changed my life back in the day and I have always wanted to see them. It’s taken 40+ years but better late than never. Being a massive Linkin Park fan I am now booking to see anyone I have or do like. You just never know.

I thought The Stranglers were excellent last night. A lot of punk bands have disappointed in the past at live concerts but these guys are top class musicians. That’s why they are in my list of fav bands. I am a regular at the Brixton O2 and I like it as a venue. No more Hero’s ? You will always be my hero’s.

Not the normal show from the boys covered a lot songs that if a life long fan of them would know but if expecting a run through of the normal set people may have left disappointed.I really enjoyed it lost how count on how many times I have seen them a long time since Ive heard Nubiles and when Hugh turned up the bass before no more heroes had the whole place reverberating. Not the best gig I’ve seen from them but still a class act .

Great gig in Limerick. Must admit, I was one of those fans who always thought that without Hugh they band would never be the same.... But how wrong I was. In Baz they now have the perfect replacement. JJ killed it with 5min.

Base as always was mean. Drummer was class act. Still tight and sharp after all these years. Also good to see a whole new generation enjoying this great music.

stranglers uk tour 2022

50 years of The Stranglers marked with celebratory tour

The Stranglers , one of the most iconic bands in British music, are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year with a short tour of the UK and Ireland.

Since playing their last full-scale UK tour in 2022, the current members of the long-standing punk/new wave collective who have never broken up and reformed like so many other groups – Jean-Jaques Burnel, Baz Warne, Jim Macaulay and Toby Hounsham – thought about how they would like to celebrate this impressive milestone with their fans.

They decided to play a few gigs – including the Cambridge Corn Exchange, a venue they know well.

When we speak, singer/guitarist Baz Warne, who joined the band in 2000, explains that he’s been enjoying some “domesticity” of late.

“I’ve been jet-washing the pavement in my garden and going to the shops, and just being a normal bloke for a few weeks,” he says.

But that followed a big European tour and visits to New Zealand and Australia – and Baz admits he soon gets “itchy” to get back to the music after a quiet spell at home.

The Stranglers’ 2022 tour was a ‘farewell’ of sorts, and the closing of a chapter, in a way – it was the first tour following the passing of long-time keyboard player Dave Greenfield, from heart and Covid-related issues, in 2020.

“It was only farewell in terms of we said that we wouldn’t do large tours anymore,” explains Baz, who is originally from Sunderland.

“There was never any mention of the fact that we would never ever tour again in the UK, which a lot of people seemed to think that we had said.

“We just decided that we weren’t going to do 28, 29, 30-date tours like we used to because it’s very tiring. That the tour happened at all was a miracle because we lost Dave Greenfield in 2020, and the tour was postponed twice – and at the third time of asking we went out and did it.

“The audiences were magnificent, every gig was sold out, and the general consensus was ‘Please don’t say this is the end, please come back if you can’.

“And of course now it’s the 50th so we decided that the only way that we could thank everyone was to go out and play some more concerts.

“So it’s a small-ish tour, as far as we’re concerned, but we’re looking forward to it immensely.”

Although they formed a couple of years before the explosion of punk rock and were influenced by it, The Stranglers went on to create their own unique sound, achieving 25 top 40 singles and 18 top 40 albums, with their most recent LP, 2021’s Dark Matters , reaching number four in the album charts, their highest UK chart position since Feline in 1983.

Their best-known single is of course Golden Brown but other hits include Peaches , No More Heroes , Always the Sun , Big Thing Coming , and Skin Deep .

The band have something of a close association with Cambridge and the Cambridge Corn Exchange, partly because singer/bass player and sole founding member left in the line-up, Jean-Jacques Burnel, used to reside in the area.

“Dave Greenfield lived – and his missus still does live – in the area, in a little village out near St Ives,” reveals Baz, who notes that And If You Should See Dave… , a track off Dark Matters , is a tribute to their much-missed bandmate, “and Cambridge was always their spiritual home, if you like, so the last time we played there was extremely emotional because Dave’s widow was there, looking down on us from above.

“And we could very much feel Dave there, and the audience responded to that… I mean apart from anything, Cambridge is a beautiful place and the Corn Exchange has always been a great gig – we always really look forward to playing there.”

In late 2022, after years of suffering health problems, original Stranglers drummer Jet Black died at the age of 84.

“It was different,” says Baz, “I mean Dave was taken from us in tragic circumstances. It was a huge shock, it was very unexpected – Jet was well into his 80s.

“I was fortunate that I spoke to him about a fortnight before he passed away, I used to speak to Jet pretty much once a month, and it was obvious that when you spoke to him he was an old fella and he was starting to fail.

“But he lived 10 lifetimes – if you and I ever get anything close to what Jet went through… I mean you’ve got to remember when he formed The Stranglers in 1974, he was already 37.

“In the big year of 1977, that everybody keeps harping on about, the ‘year zero’ of punk and all this, Jet was 40 – he’d lived half his life before any of that even started.

“So he was hugely influential to an awful lot of people, and when he passed away he was in the house with his loving wife, in this lovely little bungalow in the hills in Wales.

“He died peacefully at home and I think, given the option, any of us would choose that.”

Dave and Jet will be remembered in this tour and Baz notes that it will be “a celebration of all things Stranglers”.

He adds: “It’s been a long, long ride and it’s nearly a quarter of a century for me. I can still remember the day I went down and auditioned in London in 2000.

“That’s etched in my memory, and I never thought that I would still be here nearly 25 years later, I don’t think anybody did.”

The Stranglers will be performing at the Cambridge Corn Exchange on Wednesday, 20 March. Tickets, priced £40.50 and £50.50, are available at cornex.co.uk . For more on the band, go to thestranglers.co.uk .

The Stranglers return to Brighton on their ‘Final Full Tour’ in memory of Dave Greenfield

The Stranglers return to Brighton on their ‘Final Full Tour’ in memory of Dave Greenfield

THE STRANGLERS + RUTS DC – BRIGHTON DOME 17.2.22

Formed in Guildford in 1974, The Stranglers started out as regulars on the London pub-rock circuit. With an uncompromising attitude and energetic live shows, they soon became associated with the burgeoning punk movement. Older and more musically accomplished than many of their contemporaries, their sound continued to evolve over 18 studio albums and a string of chart hits including ‘Peaches’, ‘No More Heroes’ and ’Golden Brown’ . There have been lineup changes over the years, but the band remains one of the longest-lasting and best-loved acts to come out of the UK punk scene.

stranglers uk tour 2022

A lot has happened since the original announcement of their “Final Full Tour” in January 2020. Although not quitting completely, this celebration of a career spanning over 45 years was to be the last extensive full-production tour. The global pandemic brought an enforced hiatus to live music, and in May of that year the awful news emerged that keyboard player Dave Greenfield, originally from Brighton, had died after contracting covid-19 while in hospital for treatment of a heart condition. The remaining band members resolved to carry on and complete the album they had begun recording with Dave, and to play the tour in his memory. ‘Dark Matters’ was released, to much critical acclaim, in September 2021, and reached number four in the UK Album Charts, their highest placing for many years. The tour, twice rescheduled, finally rolls into Dave’s home town of Brighton tonight.

stranglers uk tour 2022

The Brighton Dome has a well-practised system of ticket and vaccination-status checks. I’ve got the NHS app open ready on my phone and breeze through in plenty of time to get to the front ready for the first band. The place is absolutely buzzing.

stranglers uk tour 2022

Opening tonight are Ruts DC , another cherished band from the new wave era. As The Ruts, they produced a string of highly regarded singles including the UK Top 10 hit ‘Babylon’s Burning’. Their 1979 debut album ‘The Crack’ is widely acknowledged as a classic. Shaken by the untimely death of singer Malcolm Owen in 1980, the remaining members continued for a few years as Ruts DC (DC standing for “da capo”, an Italian music term meaning “back to the beginning”). They reconvened in 2007, originally to play a benefit for guitarist Paul Fox, who was unwell with cancer and died later that year. The current lineup is a three-piece, with guitarist Leigh Heggarty joining bassist Segs Jennings and drummer Dave Ruffy, and the band continues to release new material and has established a well-earned reputation as a formidable live act.

stranglers uk tour 2022

The backline amps stand ready, badged with The Ruts’ logo on the bass cab, house right, and Ruts DC on the guitar stack house left. The band emerges to a loud cheer. “You’re going to be joined by loads of people from the bar, as soon as they hear the first tune,” quips Segs. The auditorium seems pretty full already, but the urgent opening riff of ‘Something That I Said’ will doubtless finish the job. Black clad Leigh, in trilby hat and shades, thrashes those familiar chords on a matching black Les Paul. Segs is looking sharp in a dark suit and fedora, and I suspect the road worn finish of his Precision bass might come from actual use, rather than the custom shop. Dave Ruffy dispatches breathtakingly fast rolls around the toms of his Gretsch kit with an ease and fluidity born of long experience.

stranglers uk tour 2022

It’s clear straight away we’re in for a treat, and ‘S.U.S.’ sounds awesomely massive. Segs delivers an engaging performance whilst simultaneously pumping out a thunderous low end over the insistent beat. During the dubby instrumental breakdown he shuffles gracefully across the stage while the guitar gets busy. No whammy bar? No problem, as Leigh achieves a satisfying vibrato effect by yanking on the headstock.

stranglers uk tour 2022

The set progresses, and every song’s a winner. ‘Kill The Pain’, from the 2016 album ‘Music Must Destroy’ easily holds its own amongst the earlier material, and the magnificent ‘West One (Shine On Me)’ , the final single with Malcolm Owen, sounds as heart-wrenchingly sublime today as it did in 1980. We’re bang up to date with an impressive new number ‘Born Innocent’, whose sparkling guitar arpeggios shimmer above a slow and super-heavy bass groove. The vocal outro sums up the vibe: “Hate nobody. Hurt nobody. Harm nobody.”

stranglers uk tour 2022

Thursday night is skanking night, apparently, and we’re into the infectiously brisk reggae lollop of ‘Jah War’. “Got a riff?” Segs enquires of Leigh, who responds with the intro to the blistering ‘Staring At The Rude Boys’. It’s not easy to follow that, but with ‘In A Rut’ and ‘Babylon’s Burning’ still in the locker, we’re moving up through the gears. The later culminates with some aesthetically pleasing formation crouching in front of the drum kit. The final number of this brief but perfectly formed set is ‘Psychic Attack’, another from ‘Music Must Destroy’. Dave has the ubiquitous trigger pad favoured by many drummers these days, and launches a big sonic swirl of samples to overlay the urgent beat. Super-tight stops and howling lead guitar punctuate this excellent set closer.

stranglers uk tour 2022

I’ve seen Ruts DC many times, and I’m always blown away by their measuredly powerful performance, and the sheer quality of the material. If you get the chance to catch them live, I strongly recommend you check them out.

A small army of technicians are busily preparing the stage for the main event. The keyboards, in a three-tier stack similar to Dave’s old configuration, are perched on a precipitously high riser house right, with Jim’s drum kit on a matching platform house left. The edges and steps are lined with lighting tubes, and there are huge fixtures on tall stands to augment the usual arrays of par cans on the ceiling grids. The massive backdrop and front kick drum skin feature the band logo against the starry sky of the ‘Dark Matters’ sleeve.

stranglers uk tour 2022

The recorded intro music is the haunting instrumental ‘Waltzinblack’, which traditionally heralds the arrival on stage of The Stranglers . The lighting bursts into a vast red wash, and JJ and Baz unleash the urgently rumbling bass and twanging guitar stabs of ‘Toiler On The Sea’, personally my favourite number from this band’s enormous canon of work. New recruit Toby Hounsham, with swept back hair and blue-lensed shades, has the daunting task of reproducing Dave Greenfield’s iconic keyboard parts. Of course he handles this with aplomb, not a note out of place, although there seem to be some technical issues with his in-ear monitors that necessitate the close attention of one of the stage techs throughout the song. Jim Macaulay’s drumming is thumpingly powerful and lightning fast. He sports a beard in an apparent nod to his illustrious predecessor, Jet Black. House right is singer and guitarist Baz Warne, a distinctive figure with a shaved head and a black Telecaster. House left, playing a black Shuker bass, is Jean-Jacques Burnel, the last remaining member from the famed 1970s lineup. He looks trim and fit, in defiance of the passage of time, and intermittently fires off his trademark leg kicks, and brief shimmies of running on the spot. Needless to say, all the players are clad entirely in black, in keeping with the long-established band look.

stranglers uk tour 2022

They blast on through ‘Something Better Change’ and ‘Sometimes’, two early numbers that exemplify the urgency and confrontational attitude that originally made them famous. The packed crowd responds by getting an impressive bounce on, and there is much chanting along and punching the air. Toby’s fingers are dancing across the keys replicating those incredibly busy runs, despite his ongoing monitoring issue requiring further attention from the crew.

stranglers uk tour 2022

Sunderland born Baz addresses the crowd in his broad Mackem accent: “You can understand what I’m saying, can’t you?” This raises much hilarity. Having been in the band for well over twenty years now, the guitarist is particularly adept at working the room. To warm applause he introduces Toby, who begins the opening keyboard swirl of ‘Water’, from the current album.

stranglers uk tour 2022

It’s good to hear ‘Skin Deep’ again, and there’s a bit more banter with the crowd as further work is carried out in an effort to restore the link between Toby and his monitor mix. Baz has noticed that a lot of people are smoking out on the streets in Brighton. “They’re not cigarettes,” advises JJ, with a conspiratorial wink. “Jazz Woodbines…” nods Baz. “That’ll explain the clothing choices then.”

stranglers uk tour 2022

The set continues with ‘This Song’, a standout track from the current album, and the staccato guitar stabs of the epic ‘Nice ’n’ Sleazy’. There’s beautiful keyboard in the slower paced ‘Don’t Bring Harry’, with JJ letting the bass hang at his side whilst delivering the mournfully lugubrious vocal. Lush synth leads the way through 1980s hits ‘Strange Little Girl’ and ‘Always The Sun’, and talking of hits, here’s ‘Peaches’. Baz has adapted the lyric slightly, to be topical: “I can think of a lot worse places to be… like down in the streets, or down in the sewer, or in 10 f*cking Downing Street!”

stranglers uk tour 2022

Biggest hit of all, ‘Golden Brown’ gets a massive cheer, and the lighting, which has been vividly spectacular throughout, adopts an appropriate hue. Baz sings with his guitar flipped so the strings face downwards, flipping it back to play the haunting solo. He has a change of guitar for ‘The Last Men On The Moon’, a red and white Burns providing plenty of twang for this slab of cosmic surf music. The vocal is heavily processed with a vocoder style effect.

stranglers uk tour 2022

‘Grip’ and ‘Curfew’ are classic stompers, the latter’s lyrics sounding like they fit alarmingly well with the current geopolitical mood (“The men from the steppes delivered their vacuum…” ). ‘White Stallion’ is a soaringly expansive piece of pomp rock from the current album, and sounds frankly magnificent.

stranglers uk tour 2022

I’m pleased that the traditional chants of “Bruce!” and “Sheila!” still accompany live renditions of ‘Nuclear Device’ . The cover of ‘Walk On By’ is beautifully played, its meandering Doors-like instrumental another highlight of this outstanding set. JJ has lost none of his speed up and down the fretboard, with the closing bass run of ‘Straighten Out’ as frenetically brilliant as ever. Toby’s kept busy with the brisk keyboard lines of ‘Duchess’, while ‘Hanging Around’, the closing number of the main set, sounds as sleazily menacing as it ever did. The band leaves the stage to enthusiastic applause, and the crew scurry on with two high stools and some appropriate adjustment of the mic stands.

stranglers uk tour 2022

JJ and Baz return with acoustic and semi-acoustic guitars, respectively, to play ‘Lines’, from ‘Dark Matters’. It’s a charming song about the process of ageing, and I can certainly relate to the lyric.

stranglers uk tour 2022

Despite the excitement of the show, it’s impossible to forget that it’s in memory of Dave. JJ gives a touching tribute. “When you’ve known someone for 45 years, and you’ve loved them and worked with them for that much time…it leaves a big hole in life…” They play ‘And If You Should See Dave’, a heartrendingly poignant track from the latest album. At the point in the song with the lyric “and this is where your solo would go”, the crowd breaks into prolonged spontaneous applause, which is a real lump-in-the-throat moment.

stranglers uk tour 2022

The rest of the band return for two further encores, both early classics. I can’t tell you much about ‘Go Buddy Go’ or ‘No More Heroes’ because I’m too busy dancing, although I have to smile as JJ ascends the stairs to play the iconic bass intro to the final number, with each step lighting up as he treads on it.

What a night! Is this really the last tour? I’m not convinced. Why would a band on such blistering form want to stop playing? Time will tell, and whether this is the beginning of the end, or just the end of the beginning, I’m very glad I was here to see it.

Biography - The Stranglers

The stranglers fan report: ratings and reviews, 6 reviews (ø 5.0), the stranglers ruby anniversary concert.

I went to see The Stanglers on Saturday 8 March 2014 as my birthday present. I wasnt dissapointed. They played all their old classics: Golden Brown, Hangin Around, Looking At The Peaches etc. The venue was packed to capacity, however, I was lucky enough to be right in front. Great lighting and sound and the stage decor was excellent! I was never really into punk but the Stanglers where and still are a great act that I listened to growing up. Thanks Stranglers and Hammersmith Eventim Apollo for a great show!

Awesome performance

My husband and I had our tickets all ready months ago to see the Stranglers - our daughters (aged 19 and 15) who have grown up with an excellent taste in music both wanted to come with us - so we made a night of it - we all loved it - spending all of the night before the gig listening to past albums of the Stranglers - their performance was brilliant and we all loved it - thanks boys - you still have it x

Great Gig, Spot On.

I dont really count my self as a big Stranglers fan, Im more fanatical about Hawkwind, although I do have a few of Stranglers earlier albums and have a lot of respect for any band thats not bloated with self interest and greed, but is still in for a successful long stretch and pulling reasonable crowds. This was a great gig, they were spot on, what more can I say? In fact, I was so impressed I sent the band an e mail with the same comments, so enough said. MandyWitch

THE STRANGLERS announce rescheduling of 2021 UK tour to 2022

THE STRANGLERS announce rescheduling of 2021 UK tour to 2022 2

Due to the ongoing pandemic, The Stranglers have had to reschedule their tour yet again to 2022.

Read the full statement below:

We are, once again, incredibly saddened to confirm that we have had no alternative but to reschedule the planned 2021 spring tour. This decision has not been taken lightly, especially as the tour has already been moved back, but the ongoing issues surrounding the Covid pandemic are continuing to play havoc with live music. Due to the uncertainty around the tightening of lockdown regulations in the UK and the rollout of the vaccinations over the coming months, it was decided that the tour should be postponed until early 2022.

It has been an immense challenge to move the tour again but ultimately we are determined to make it happen as planned from the outset. After almost a year of inactivity on the road, the band are all chomping at the bit to get back to playing live but their safety, as well as that of the crew and fans, is of paramount importance. All purchased tickets remain valid for the new dates. We hope you understand that we have been left with no other choice and, believe us, we share your disappointment. Look forward to seeing you all on the road next year.
