UAE residents planning to travel to Japan no longer need to visit the Japanese embassy to apply for a visa. The Asian destination has introduced eVisas for UAE residents, as well as for Saudi residents and nationals.
Effective immediately, Japan has eased visa regulations for travellers from the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Tourists keen on exploring Tokyo’s neon streets, Kyoto 's temples and shrines, or the snow-covered slopes of Hokkaido can apply online for a short-term tourist visa that allows stays of up to 90 days.
No screenshots or print outs of the visa are required. Instead, travellers will access Japan's eVisa website on arrival in the country to show approved documents to immigration authorities.
The easing of travel rules for visitors from the Gulf region follows visa-free regulations for Emirati travellers that have been in place since November.
Citizens from 68 other nationalities, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and several countries across Europe, are also exempt from applying for a visa to travel to Japan.
“I am delighted with the commencement of the online applications for short-term stay visas in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, as well as the visa waiver arrangements for short — term stay for Qatari nationals, as it will ease the process to visit Japan for touristic purposes,” said Kobayashi Daisuke, executive director of Japan National Tourism Organisation in Dubai.
Earlier this month, Emirates resumed flights to Tokyo-Haneda airport, the Dubai airline's third destination in the country. The service joins Emirates' daily A380 flights to Tokyo-Narita and daily Boeing 777 fights to Osaka. at Japanese embassies or Consulate-Generals and can then travel visa free to Japan for short -term visits over a period of three years.
Qatari nationals are also able to travel easier to Japan as authorities have added a visa waiver registration for travellers from the Gulf country. Before travelling, Qatari nationals should register their passport details at Japanese embassies or Consulate-Generals and can then travel visa free to Japan for short term visits over a period of three years.
Japan drops lingering Covid-19 restrictions more than three years after the pandemic
Japan is also set to drop its last remaining Covid-19 regulations for travellers.
From May 8, visitors from overseas will no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test when arriving in the country.
Japan introduced some of the toughest travel restrictions after the Covid-19 pandemic as the country effectively sealed off its borders to non-residents. Since the lifting of restrictions, airlines around the world have added more flights to Japan to satisfy traveller demand.
Earlier this month Emirates resumed flights to Tokyo-Haneda airport, the Dubai airline's third destination in the country. The service joins Emirates' daily A380 flights to Tokyo-Narita and daily Boeing 777 fights to Osaka.

How to Go to Japan from Dubai
How to go to japan from dubai: your ultimate travel guide.
Dubai and Japan are two incredible destinations that offer unique experiences and cultural richness. If you’re a resident of Dubai or planning a visit and dream of exploring the Land of the Rising Sun, this guide will help you navigate the journey from Dubai to Japan . From visa requirements to flight options and cultural tips, we’ve got you covered.
Before embarking on your journey to Japan, it’s essential to understand the visa requirements . As a UAE passport holder, you will need a visa to enter Japan for tourism or business purposes. Fortunately, Japan offers a straightforward and efficient visa application process.
You can apply for a tourist visa at the Embassy of Japan in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai. The application process typically involves providing necessary documents such as your passport, a visa application form, a recent passport-sized photograph, and a detailed travel itinerary. It’s essential to check the latest visa requirements and fees on their official websites, as they may change.
The next step in planning your journey is to find the most suitable flights from Dubai to Japan. Fortunately, Dubai International Airport (DXB) is one of the world’s busiest airports, with numerous airlines offering direct and connecting flights to various Japanese cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.
Airlines like Emirates, Japan Airlines, and ANA (All Nippon Airways) operate direct flights from Dubai to major Japanese airports. These flights can vary in duration, but the average non-stop flight time from Dubai to Tokyo is around 9-11 hours.
If you’re looking for budget-friendly options or more flexible travel dates, consider connecting flights through other major hubs like Doha, Istanbul, or Hong Kong. Make sure to compare prices, flight durations, and layover times to find the best option that suits your preferences and budget.
Japan offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit every traveler’s needs and budget. From luxury hotels to traditional ryokans and affordable hostels, you’ll find plenty of choices. Popular areas to stay in Japan include Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
When booking your accommodation , consider factors such as location, proximity to public transportation, and the type of experience you want. Staying in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn can be a unique cultural experience, while international hotel chains offer familiarity and comfort.
Japan’s currency is the Japanese Yen (¥). It’s a good idea to exchange some currency before your trip, but you’ll find ATMs readily available throughout Japan that accept international cards. Credit cards are also widely accepted in most urban areas, but it’s advisable to carry some cash for smaller businesses and rural areas.
Japan can be both affordable and expensive, depending on your choices. Street food and local eateries offer budget-friendly dining options, while high-end restaurants can be quite expensive. Plan your budget accordingly, keeping in mind the cost of transportation, accommodation, food, and activities.
Japan is known for its rich cultural heritage and etiquette . It’s essential to be aware of some basic customs:
- Bowing: Bowing is a common greeting in Japan. A slight bow is a sign of respect and courtesy.
- Shoes: Remove your shoes before entering someone’s home, traditional ryokans, and some restaurants.
- Public Behavior: Maintain a respectful and quiet demeanor in public spaces, such as trains and buses.
- Tipping: Tipping is not a common practice in Japan, and it can even be considered rude in some situations.
While many Japanese people working in the tourism industry can communicate in English to some extent, it’s helpful to learn a few basic Japanese phrases and expressions. This will not only enhance your experience but also show respect for the local culture.

Excellent and very professional service. Thank you Japan1
Excellent Service.. Wow Japan1
Incredibly proactive & professional Mr. Arif working at Zabeel Star Travel & Tourism is truly a pleasure to work with. I found the company details on social media and simply placed a called and spoke to Mr. Arif. He listened to my request patiently and offered me prompt service for Chinese visa application, within the next 2 hours of us speaking. A messenger from the company collected my documents and gave me a receipt of payment and I was informed my passport will be returned with the stamped visa on 29th Nov. I did not have to call or follow up with anyone at their end as I was pleasantly surprised to receive my visa stamped passport, a day earlier than promised. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Mr. Arif and Zabeel Star Travel & Tourism. I recommend it highly for anyone looking for quality and effective service. Thank you for your services. It’s fairly easy….
Thinking of visiting Dubai, but you’re not sure how to get a tourist visa? Perhaps you already live in this gorgeous city and want to share it with family and friends, but aren’t sure how to go about securing the ever-important visa. For some it’s as easy as showing up at the airport, for others, there is a process that needs to be followed.
Here is everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai.
No visa required
Citizens of the GCC areas do not require any sort of visa to enter Dubai. You simply need to provide your passport or your national ID at the point of entry and you will be granted entrance.
Visa on arrival
If you fall into this category, you’re in luck because there are certain countries that can simply arrive at Dubai International Airport and receive a tourist visa, on arrival.
There are a total of 50 countries that receive visas on arrival. Some include The United Kingdom (UK), The United States of America (USA), and countries that are part of the EU. For some countries you will be eligible for a 30-day visa, and for others a 90-day visa, with the possibility of extension.
Indian citizens who are holders of tourist visas from the USA, green cards, or have a residence visa in the UK or EU will also receive a visa on arrival, for 14 days, provided that the green card and residence visas have been valid for more than six months.
If you are a Mexican passport holder, you will be granted a multiple-entry visa on arrival. Your visa is valid for up to 180 days and is valid for six months from the date that the visa has been issued.
The list of countries that are able to attain a tourist visa on arrival in Dubai or the UAE may change from time to time and so you can easily see if you are eligible for a tourist visa on arrival by following the steps here .
Pre-arranged visa
When you do not fall under the above categories that means you need to apply for a tourist visa before you enter Dubai. This can be done in a number of ways.
You can easily apply directly through certain airlines including FlyDubai and Emirates . Alternatively, you can organise a tourist visa through licensed travel agents, tour operators and the hotel you will be staying at.
It is important to note that you cannot apply for a tourist visa through the UAE Embassy, one of the organisers mentioned above will apply for your visa on your behalf through the visa-issuing authorities here in Dubai.
