Dells Boat Tours Questions & Answers
Hi, - What are the current operating hours for the upper dells tours? I am specifically looking for July 2nd. - What is the duration of the upper dells boat tour? Thanks.
You would need to call the day you are interested in going. They typically start at 10, but it depends on the weather.
Not sure of operating hours but duration of trip is 2 hours.
Upper Dells was 2.5 hours I believe and they had tours leaving every 30-45 minutes. They don't seem to post hours so you have to call or stop in at the ticket booth.
It's about 2 hours long with 2 stops. It's best 2hours of awesome scenery!
Their website says 8:00 to 7:00 pm. We did the upper dells tour and it was 2 hours.
You do have to call, the hours can vary as many said above.
The tour is about 2 hours long. I think ours was actually around 2 hours 15 min by the time we got off the boat. I would call them directly on the times of the tours. They may have additional times since it is a holiday weekend.
I believe the 2-hour duration boat trips begin at 10 am and run every 30-45 minutes, depending on demand. They also had sunset trips so they continue into the evening. I would guess the Dell boats Website would provide additional information.

How long is the tour?
My family went on the Upper Dells tour and it lasted approximately two hours.
Are there bathrooms on the upper dells boat tour?
There are no bathrooms on the boats but there is bathrooms at the end of the witches gulch path. There is probably bathrooms at the second stop also. The concessions area was closed at the time we were there, the end of April.

Great value! Great guides! I believe our captain was John and guide was Jenna. (I think). Right at 2.25 hrs (like they said). Awesome scenery. Jenna was very funny. John was very knowledgeable, and obviously had a lot of experience navigating the boat (in relatively rough conditions) Our 8 year old loved it almost as much as we did. I'd recommend planning enough time to wait for the next boat only because if you want to sit on top it fills up the fastest. The top holds about 60 people and if there's not enough room they give you the option to wait for the next boat (which we did) took about 20-30 minutes extra. Highly recommended and would do it again
Absalutely terrible ghost tour not scary at all we tried to talj to the actors and then a worker started following us so pretty boring do not recommend
Really friendly staff and an experience well worth the time. I rode on the Red Cloud with Riley and Vanessa. Riley was a very wonderful tour guide with entertaining jokes and a good knowledge of the area toured. She was very kind and conversed with everyone on the tour. If you are in the area and have the time, I strongly recommend trying this tour. There's beautiful short stops along the way you'd never know where there if you didn't take the tour.
One of the stops during the tour. Beautiful walk.
On the boat to the second stop. Peaceful ride.
Kinda a 3.5 review Daughter and I decided to try the Upper Dells tour on a whim while passing through town. We'd been rained out of our plans in Madison that morning and we're trying to make the best of it since the weather was decent by The Dells. The cost was $60 for the two of us for the two hour Upper Dells tour. Perhaps a bit high but again, we were happy to enjoy an activity since our other plans got rained out. Anyhoo... never having been to Wisconsin or seen The Dells it was wonderful to see the beauty of the natural area and rock formations along the river. Our guides and captain were wonderful. Beware, though, if you don't care for corny jokes; the script is full of them! Pluses- the weather held for our entire boat trip. The witches gulch stop was truly cool. You learn quite a bit of the history of the area while you travel which is interesting. There are bathrooms at the stops in case you need them. We saw an eagle resting in the branches on our way to witches gulch. Cons- the seating up top the boat consists of cheap lawn chairs not even secured to the deck. Not the nicest of boats. Near the conclusion of the tour, the guide passed out pamphlets to try to sell with an awkward plea for tips to supplement their presumably meager pay. I'm happy to tip, and the guides/captain are great, but they shouldn't be forced through the exercise of awkwardly requesting that your buy the pamphlet or tip due to their low wages. I'm not sure if this is a scripted ploy or truly necessary but it was strange. Just pay them well and save them the sales pitch at the end! Overall, it's worth a trip once. As an aside, the rest of the "town" of Wisconsin Dells looked to be a tourist-trap nightmare. We got outta town as soon as our tour concluded.
This was the best boat tour in the dells!! We went on the Voyager with Captain Joe and Maddie. They were very knowledgeable and knew what they were doing! Joe is a great captain!! Docked the boat like a boss! We had a great time!
The boat tour was awesome. Ben and Greg our pilot and guide did an amazing job of telling us the story on the upper dells.
We did the Upper Dells boat tour with Captain Jim, Maddie, on the Yellow Thunder boat. This is a great way to see the beauty of the Dells and learn about the history of the area. We saw several bald eagles along the trip. Jim and Maddie were wonderful hosts and very informative. Loved watching the German Shepard leap almost 6 feet to Stand Rock. Highly recommend taking this tour.
We had a wonderful tour on the first tour of the day. Bob was our captain and did a wonderful job and our guide who was a Opera Singer was awesome as well. I only wish we could of spent more time hiking in the dells and exploring the area. Witches Gulch was amazing and the walk back was incredible. Stand Rock was fun and the dog jump was cool. I would suggest to go early or late to avoid the heat and get to your spot in line for a good seat. Bring something to drink as it does get a little warm in the sun but there are concession stands at both stops if you forget.

The boat tours are a great way to get away from the tourist traps and see the natural beauty of the Dells. It's a nice slow boat ride to see the sights and make two stops along the way. It would be wise to wear a good hat for shade and to bring some sunblock. But before you can board the boat they want to take a picture of you so they can charge you $20 for it when you disembark. We had the pleasure of Chase and Mark as our captain and guide. The first stop waa at Witches Gulch which has some of the most beautiful sandstone formations that you can walk through. At the end of that walk is a large snack bar where you can purchase ice cream, candy etc. The second stop is at Standing Rock where you can watch a dog jump from one high plateau to another. After that show you can again find a snack bar and souvenir shop on the way back to the boat. At that point, it's just 20 minutes of travel back to the dock. They do ask that you please tip at the end of the journey which usually comes just before the photographers try to sell you those pictures. The photos I took tell the rest of the story.

You may, but you have to follow the rules. No hard alcohol or glass (even if the glass only stays in the ice chest). All alcohol is BYOB. Alcoholic beverages must remain on board at all times. Bring your own ice chest and ice. You are also free to bring food on board. You are limited to drinks per person for drinks you bring, however there is no limit to the amount you purchase from Breakwater.
Can we get out and swim during the tour?
Is it hard to pedal.
Water tends to be very flat, so its not bad at all. In fact, the light exercise helps make the experience. Plus, we have an auxiliary motor. We have had groups of all 70+ seniors pedal just fine. If they can do it, you can do it!!!
What if it rains?
Paddle Pub Madison operates rain or shine! If it’s going to rain, we recommend bringing rain jackets and/or ponchos. It’s still a lot of fun- think of it as an adventure. We only cancel tours if there are unsafe conditions, in which case you will receive a credit or refund.
How many coolers fit on board?
We can fit approximately 3 full-sized coolers on board.
Can more than 16 people fit on the Paddle Pub?
Are people under the age of 21 allowed on board.
Yes, but they will receive an “X” on each hand and cannot drink while on board. Riders under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present. The minimum age to ride the Paddle Pub is 12.
Is there a weight limit for riders?
Yes. Unfortunately due to the nature of the vessels, customers over 300 pounds will not be able to comfortably ride the Paddle Pub.
How do I reschedule/cancel my tour?
Paddle Pub and Trolley Pub now offer trip insurance, which will allow you flexibility in the case your plans change, or if the tour needs to be canceled due to the inclement weather.
Trip insurance will also allow you to receive a full refund in the event of a Severe Weather Warning from the National Weather Service during the time of your scheduled tour results in a cancellation on our end. You may also voluntarily cancel your tour for any reason up to 7 days prior to your tour for a full refund.
To purchase trip insurance, simply select the add on “Trip Insurance” during checkout. Please note that for mixer tours, you will need to select the number of tickets you would like to insure to cover all the tickets.
Without trip insurance, all sales are final – no exceptions. In the case a tour needs to be canceled on our end in the event of severe weather and you do not have trip insurance, you will receive a credit for a future tour at any TourScale location (Trolley Pub, Paddle Pub, Tiki Pub) in the country. Currently, we have tours in over 30 cities across the US.

Take a guided Duck ride of the Lower Dells aboard a Original World War II-era Dells Army Duck! The Ducks have been one of Wisconsin Dells’ most popular Wisconsin Dells attraction for 70+ years , and they provide a sightseeing experience unlike any other. Discover sandstone rock formations that are over 14,000 years old such as Grotto Island, the Twin Ink Stands, Sugar Bowl, and Lone Rock. Two Splash Downs into Sasquatch Lake and use the Duck’s six-wheel drive capabilities to traverse Dell Creek. Our 55 minute, land-and-water Duck rides has been the most unique and original way to experience the Wisconsin Dells for over 70 years.
The Dells were created at the end of the last glacial period from the flood waters of the Wisconsin River ripping through soft sandstone that was once the floor of a prehistoric sea. The raging river managed to carve the gorges, caves, rocky islands and towering cliffs which would come to be admired for centuries. Visitors have been coming to the Wisconsin Dells to take-in the natural wonders for generations, and a guided boat tour aboard one of our amphibious Ducks provides an experience your family won’t soon forget!
During the summer months, Dells Army Ducks depart every 30 minutes daily for a 55 minute duck boat tour . All duck boat tours are guided through the Lower Dells of the Wisconsin River, exposing you up close to one-of-a-kind rock formations. Visit our Photo Gallery to see historic photos and tour images. It’s fun, entertaining and a must-do when visiting Wisconsin Dells!
