New air in the port of Larnaca, where the first cruise ships will start arriving from Friday, with the prospects being particularly auspicious, since as it was found, large new generation cruise ships can be accommodated without any problems. The Kition Ocean Holdings consortium, which took over the management of the city's port and marina on April 1st, planning projects worth 1.2 billion euros, has already concluded agreements for the arrival of cruise ships.
As the CEO of Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd, Panos Alexandrou, told “F”, so far the consortium has reached an agreement for the arrival of 24 cruise ships, by the end of the year. Most cruise ships will arrive from ports in Israel and Egypt and will carry 600-800 people at a time, while what arrives on Friday will have about 1,000 passengers. & Nbsp;

On the plus side, the port can accommodate large cruise ships, as it emerged on Monday after Carnival Cruises' “Seabourn Sojourn”, which can carry 3,500-4,000 passengers, entered on a trial basis. Carnival Corporation & amp; plc, is an American-British giant company, with a fleet of more than 100 ships and is in advanced consultations with the consortium, in order to start cooperation between them, from next year. Kition Ocean Holdings' goal is for 20 passenger ships to reach Larnaca port annually by 2023.
The first works at the marina have started
The consortium, meanwhile, has started carrying out small works in the Larnaca marina, pending the Environmental Impact Assessment Study by the competent Authority, which is expected by the end of May and will give the green light for major projects. & Nbsp;
At the moment, a space is being created for families with children, for holding events in the Larnaca marina, which will be ready, according to Mr. Alexandrou, by the end of June. In addition, an agreement was reached with a well-known restaurant, in order to open the space. At the beginning of 2023, the first works in the port will begin.
It is noted that the works in the port and the marina of Larnaca will be carried out in a period of twelve years, in four phases. The first phase of the project will last about five years and will include the construction of public space infrastructure and arms in the area of the marina. In addition, a road will be created that will unite the coastal pedestrian street of Finikoudes with the roundabout of the port. During this period, building facilities will be constructed such as the Port Authority, the Nautical Club, the entrance building to the port, as well as a cruise passenger terminal, which will make the city a tourist hub.

Port Limassol cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Limassol, Cyprus. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.
Limassol is Cyprus' principal (largest) seaport, located on Akrotiri Bay, between Paphos and Larnaca . The port handles over 90% of all visiting Cyprus Island cruise ship tourists. Port's cruising season runs February through December. Greek is the official language, and English and Turkish are widely spoken.
Next photo is of the Old Port (Limassol Marina).
The 1956-opened Limassol Old Port was used as the island's principal seaport until 1973. Currently, it is used by leisure boats, yachts, fishing boats and coast guard vessels. In 2010, the Old Port was officially closed and renamed "Limassol Marina".
In Limassol are registered many commercial marine vessels (both cargo carriers and passenger ships) as Cyprus is the preferable flag-state for many European passenger shipping companies (cruise lines and ferryboat operators). In 2023, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group opened an office in Limassol, to serve as the company's center for cruise activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The original Greek name of Limassol is Lemesos. The country's capital city is Nicosia (aka Lefkosia). The city is located less than 30 min drive from the archaeological sites Limassol Castle (near the city's old harbor), Kourion (Curium, ancient city-state) and Kolossi Castle (former Crusader fortress). From Limassol depart popular mountain tours.
The city is approx 50 km / 30 mi (1-hour drive) from the UNESCO site Paphos Archaeological Park - well-known worldwide for its ancient ruins. The most significant are the Roman villas, the houses of Dionysos, Orpheus, Aion and Theseus (all with perfectly preserved mosaic floors), the necropolis (Tombs of the Kings), the amphitheater.
Lemesos port's construction (1971-1973) started with the turning basin which has radius 500 m (1640 ft) and draft 12 m (39 ft). The port has 2 quays (total length 880 m / 2887 ft) - north quay (430 m) and western quay (450 m) with max draft 11 m (36 ft). The port has a covered storage facility (Warehouse 2, sized 6080 m2) and a gantry rail crane (Luffing Crane, max lifting power 35 tons) on the western quay,
Lemesos Port (Limassol) started operations in 1974, following the Famagusta Port's occupation by Turkey. Famagusta used to handle around 83% of the island's total cargo. Port Lemesos provides vessel services, cargo loading / unloading and also serves Cyprus' passenger shipping traffic. Port's water area is sized 1 km2, and its land area is 1,3 km2.
Port's expansion (1980-1982) added the eastern quay (length 480 m, draft 11 m). In 1984 here were installed 2 Panamax gantry cranes serving container ships . Later was extended the western quay (to the south) to provide service to ferries (Ro-Pax ships). Then was built the southern quay (length 300 m) and all other marine areas were dredged to max draft 14 m (46 ft).
The port has 5 mooring posts and dolphins for vessels with max draft 10,5 m requiring mooring for repairs, decommissioning or impounding. Currently, the total length of quays is 2070 m (6790 ft):.
In April 2016, DP World Limassol (part of the Dubai -based corporation DP World) was awarded a 25-year terminal concession (until 2041) to operate the container terminal exclusively. DP World's subsidiary P&O Maritime was additionally awarded a 15-year port concession (till 2031) to provide full-range marine services exclusively. The list of DP World-managed activities comprises 3 multi-purpose quays (serving break-bulk, general cargo and Ro-Pax ships (ferries and cruisers), also oil and gas tankers) plus the new passenger terminal.
The 2017-opened DP World Limassol cruise terminal (sized 6970 m2 / 75000 ft2) has a large dock (East Berth) with length 480 m (1575 ft) and depth 11 m (336 ft) which allows berthing for the world's biggest passenger ships .
In 2019, Port Limassol handled a total of 93 cruise ship calls (40% increase over 2018) and ~125,000 tourists. In 2018, the cruise port received nearly 57,000 travelers, in 2017 - around 74,000.
Following the Coronavirus crisis, in 2022 the cruise port had booked 163 ship calls with estimated ~170,000 passengers.
In November 2021, Cyprus' Shipping Ministry launched an attempt for a 3-year ferry contract valued at EUR 33 million (USD 35,6M) with annual state aid of EUR 5,5M. In December 2021, Israel expressed interest to join the proposed Greece-Cyprus ferry route by adding an Israeli port to the itinerary.
After a 22-year hiatus, on June 19, 2022, Limassol restarted the Cyprus-Greece ferry route linking directly to Piraeus-Athens . The seasonal/summer-only service (May thru October) is provided by MS Daleela (1991-built car and passenger ship/IMO 9001306, Cyprus- flagged , owned by Scandro Holding Ltd, max capacity 400 passengers) with crossing duration/travel time ~30 hours. The ferryboat departs out of Limassol to Piraeus on Wednesdays and Sundays, while departures from Piraeus to Limassol are on Tuesdays and Fridays. During the maiden season (2022), the Cyprus-Greece ferry service featured 22 roundtrips serving a total of 7162 passengers, ~2250 wheeled units (cars and motorcycles) and ~200 pets. In 2023, as departure port was added Larnaca (cruising time to Piraeus ~32 hours).
Port Limmasol cruise terminal is located approx 70 km (43 mi) from two international airports - Larnaca and Paphos.
Cruise ships dock at Limassol New Port, located approx 5 km (3 mi) from downtown (direction north). The new port serves both passenger (cruise and ferries ) and cargo vessels. Usually, the cruise company provides free shuttle bus service. There is a taxi rank at terminal. Know that driving in Cyprus is on the left side of the roads!
The cruise terminal building (sized 3500+ m2 / 37700 ft2) offers as facilities public phones, currency exchange, ATMs, tourist information, duty-free shop.
In July 2017, DP World ( Dubai ) opened the new DP World Limassol cruise terminal. The facility is sized 6970 m2 (75000 ft2) and is corporation's 3rd cruise passenger terminal worldwide (following projects in Argentina and UAE). Terminal's East Berth has length 480 m (1575 ft) and depth 11 m (336 ft) allowing docking for world's biggest cruise liners .

THE CROISIEUROPE DIFFERENCE
Jerusalem, a magnet for pilgrims from a variety of faiths(1)
Passengers are welcome to board our ship at 6:00 p.m. After comfortably settling into your cabins, we’ll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail before dinner. The evening is free to do as you please.
This morning, join us for an optional excursion to Nicosia . The Cypriot capital has two faces and symbolizes two contrasting cultures united by a shared history. Brimming with gems to discover, Nicosia stands as the last officially divided European city. This afternoon, we'll start sailing towards Israel.
Full-day optional excursion through Galilee including the Sea of Galilee (lunch included; approx. 9 hours total, including 4 hours round trip). The Sea of Galilee, a freshwater lake also known as Lake Tiberias or Kinneret in Hebrew, is the main water source in Israel and crystallizes for Christians the place where many of the events described in the Bible occurred. Our excursion will first take you to Cana (or Kafr Cana), where Jesus performed the miracle of transforming water into wine. We'll continue on to the Mount of Beatitudes, from where there are wonderful views of Lake Tiberias. This is the hill where Jesus is believed to have delivered his “Sermon on the Mount”. We'll next head for Tabgha, believed to be the most beautiful and peaceful of holy Christian sites and which was the scene of many Gospel stories, before moving on to Capernaum, the base camp for Jesus during his Galilean ministry.
Full-day optional excursion to Jerusalem and Bethlehem (lunch included; approx. 12 hours total, including 4 hours round trip). In Bethlehem, we’ll visit the Church of the Nativity, which contains the grotto where many Christians believe Jesus was born. We’ll continue on to Jerusalem, considered holy ground by three religions—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The old city contains over 200 historic sites, including the Wailing Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which encompasses the hill where Jesus was crucified and his tomb. We will also visit the colorful market where the three main religions live side by side.
This morning, optional guided tour of Nazareth. We'll set off for our discovery tour of Nazareth, travelling through the lovely hills of Upper Galilee and the historic Jezreel Valley until we reach the spot where the Angel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to the Messiah. We'll visit the Church of the Annunciation, the largest Catholic church in the Middle East and one of the holiest shrines in the Christian world. Then, we'll continue to the Greek Orthodox Church of St Gabriel, where the water from an underground spring flows through the apse and into the adjacent Mary's Well. Finally, we will visit St Joseph's Church, built in 1914 on the very spot believed to be the workshop of Joseph the carpenter.
This afternoon, We'll set off on an optional visit to Acre (Saint John of Acre), headquarters of the Knights Hospitaller during Crusades in the Holy Land. The old city of Acre, a UNESCO world heritage site, is home to many remarkable sites, such as ruins from the Greco-Roman period as well as from the time of the Crusades and the Ottoman Empire. Its fascinating historical heritage where East meets West and the unique ruins of the different cultures make it one of the most important cities of the ancient world.
Full-day optional excursion Masada and the Dead Sea (lunch included; approx. 12 hours total, incl. 5 hours round trip). Masada is one of Israel’s most popular tourist destinations. The breathtaking, strategic location is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of heroism and importance within Jewish culture. Masada was built in 30 BC by King Herod. When Israel began its great revolt against Rome in 68 AD, the site became a stronghold for Jewish rebels. The Romans besieged Masada in the year 72. Rather than be taken alive by their adversaries, the population of Masada chose to die by suicide. After our stirring visit to this important historical site, we will continue to the Dead Sea for lunch and an afternoon at the side of the pool or in the sea’s beneficial waters and muds.
The morning will be spent sailing towards Cyprus.
In the afternoon, optional guided visit of the medieval Byzantine castle of Limassol. You will see the castle and its shady gardens. The current building, dating from the 13th century, was built on top of the ruins of a Byzantine castle and has been restored and destroyed many times during the history of Cyprus. The Venetians demolished it, the Ottomans turned it into a military building and the British used it as a colonial prison. Today it houses the medieval museum of Cyprus, with exhibits such as Ottoman pottery, medieval armor and everyday objects from the Byzantine era. The reception hall of the castle was where Richard the Lionheart, king of England, married Berangaria of Navarre in 1191. Enjoy some free time to do as you please.
This morning, optional excursion to Paphos Archaeological Park . Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1980, this exceptional site features the Tombs of the Kings, a mysterious underground necropolis located amidst an almost deserted landscape. We'll then visit the houses of Dionysos, Theseus and Aion whose splendid mosaics were discovered by chance in 1962. A few kilometers further on, we will stop in the village of Yeroskipou to visit a small workshop where Loukoum (Cyprus Delight) is made, followed by a tasting session.
The afternoon will be spent sailing towards Larnaca.
Tonight’s our gala dinner and evening.
Enjoy one last buffet breakfast on board before disembarking at 9:00 a.m. End of our services.

For the first time, we’re spotlighting new cruise ships on Travel + Leisure ’s It List, as these exceptional vessels become more and more like floating resorts — celebrity chefs, crystal chandeliers, and Rolex boutiques included.

It’s not every day a new cruise line arrives. The debut of the remarkable Explora I was a moment years in the making for Explora Journeys , the upstart luxury operator that aims to bring a European sensibility to the world of vacations at sea. So far, the project is a smashing success, thanks to the ship’s low-key vibe, standout food and beverage, and intriguing itineraries that visit in-demand ports in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. My own August 2023 trip on Explora I , from Copenhagen to Hamburg, Germany, included fulfilling visits to places such as Oslo and the town of Stavanger, Norway, a gateway to adventurous hiking with a postcard-perfect Old Town. The ship itself was also a destination, with its abundance of outdoor space — including an alfresco fitness center — and pools at seemingly every turn. The 461 suites, all of them with balconies, are filled with luxurious touches such as Frette linens and robes, heated marble floors, and Dyson hair dryers. But Explora I truly shines when it comes to food: During the week I was aboard, it was impossible to find a bad meal — and I was often astonished at the quality of, in particular, the pasta served in the Emporium Marketplace and the sushi on offer at Sakura, two of the nine restaurants aboard. The most ambitious of them all is Anthology, a rotating-chef concept that has seen a residency from seafood whiz Mario Ulaissi, known for his Michelin three-starred restaurant on Italy's Adriatic coast, and that recently welcomed Emma Bengtsson, from Aquavit , in New York City. Much has been made of Explora I ’s Rolex boutique — the first on any cruise ship — but for my money, the other shops on board were more interesting: The company has tapped family-owned businesses around the world to create capsule collections of resort wear, handbags, fragrances, sunglasses, and beautiful gifts that can’t be found elsewhere. From $2,050 per person for a six-day sailing. Accessible ship. — Paul Brady
Nick Tortajada/Courtesy of Oceania Cruises
The new Oceania Vista is in a class of its own; no really, it’s the first in Oceania Cruises ’ new Allura class. Of its 11 bars and restaurants, three are entirely new to the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings–owned brand — including a high-end cocktail spot called Founders’ Bar, serving 26 intricate drinks that use house-made syrups and top-shelf booze like Whistle Pig and parsley-infused Grey Goose. As Oceania levels up, the cruise line has produced a ship that feels more like a floating resort than the vessels that came before. There’s pickleball; a health-conscious restaurant, Aquamar, serving made-to-order salads and pressed juices; and a coffee shop that looks like one in walking distance of my home in L.A. (marble counters, gold accents, leather bar stools) and pulls an espresso shot of similar quality. Vista has more suites than others in the Oceania fleet, too: There are 14 Oceania Suites (up to 1,200 square feet); eight Vista Suites (up to 1,850 square feet); and three Owner’s Suites with Ralph Lauren Home decor and two massive terraces (2,400 square feet). But the most hotel-like touch? A celebrity chef–driven restaurant, Toscana, where Giada De Laurentiis — the ship’s godmother — supplied two recipes for the menu. As someone who watched a lot of Everyday Italian in the early aughts, I was particularly excited to try her signature, Capri-inspired lemon spaghetti, and lemon-cream sauce with grilled shrimp and capers didn’t disappoint. From $2,499 per person for a seven-night sailing. Accessible ship. — Maya Kachroo-Levine
Courtesy of Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ sixth ship, the Seven Seas Grandeur , sailed its inaugural season in December, joining sibling ships Seven Seas Explorer and Seven Seas Splendor as the newest member of the luxury fleet. The cruise line is a favorite among T+L readers for its gorgeous ships and all-inclusive pricing that covers unlimited shore excursions, dining at specialty restaurants, and even round-trip airfare. Grandeur lives up to its name thanks to stunning, art-filled spaces designed by cruise ship interior experts Studio Dado: signature restaurant Compass Rose is enchanting with interiors inspired by a fairy-tale forest; the Observation Lounge sparkles with an undulating chandelier and swanky bar; and the $11,000-per-night Regent Suite has a private en suite spa and custom Treesse mini pool. As I boarded Grandeur for the ship’s inaugural sailing, I was mesmerized by the grand staircase and glittering chandelier. And with a maximum capacity of 744 guests, I found it easy to take time to myself in the myriad of quiet spots tucked throughout the ship, whether in the Serene Spa and Wellness area, in the Library, or on the Sports Deck overlooking the ocean. Seven restaurants include specialty steakhouse Prime 7, pan-Asian restaurant Pacific Rim, and breakfast and lunch buffet La Veranda, which refines the cruise buffet experience with daily specials like paella and sushi. Several bars and lounges, a pool and hot tubs, a casino, Broadway-style productions, and cooking classes at the Culinary Arts Kitchen make the ship a destination in itself, though guests will want to take advantage of those included excursions on Caribbean, Central American, North American, and European itineraries, ranging from seven to 16 nights, during the ship’s 2024 season. From $4,669 per person for a seven-night sailing. Accessible ship. — Elizabeth Rhodes
Courtesy of Silversea Cruises
Carrying 728 passengers, Silver Nova is big for the luxury sector, but boasts a hugely important metric: a capacious passenger space ratio — that is, the number of guests relative to the size of the ship. Simply put, this ship offers more elbow room per passenger than almost any other cruise vessel. Silver Nova is wrapped in glass, with an asymmetrical layout; the funnel is positioned off-center, so is the pool, offering an expansive, uncluttered pool deck. Many features of the brand-new ship recall previous Silversea successes, my favorite of which is the S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) program, expanded for Silver Nova . S.A.L.T. perks include a gorgeous, sea-facing lab for hands-on culinary lessons (at no additional cost), plus a new concept, the Chef’s Table, where an 11-course menu is prepared for just 24 diners. All facets of the S.A.L.T. ecosystem, including ingredients, a bar, lectures, and shore excursions, are keyed to the region Nova is sailing. While food is a drawing card for Silver Nova , accommodations also received a revamp. Tied to the theme of bringing the outside in, there are brilliant new suites found in the aft starboard corner of the ship, with wraparound balconies revealing a 270-degree view. This is where you can tuck me in when I win the lottery and head off on a world cruise. But until then, Silver Nova will summer in Alaska and spend northern hemisphere winters in Australia and New Zealand, places where top-deck views should prove ceaselessly rewarding. From $3,250 per person for a seven-night sailing. Accessible ship. — David Swanson

Some old and unwanted cruise ships meet their demise at ship-breaking yards , where they are disassembled and sold for scrap.
Other vessels find a more fortunate fate, receiving a second chance to do what they already do best: serve as floating hotels.
Canada-based Bridgemans Services Group buys and charters former cruise ships to turn into "floatels," outfitted with standard cruise amenities like daily housekeeping, buffets, and relaxing lounges.
But the ships aren't designed to transport tourists from one destination to another anymore. Instead, companies turn to Bridgeman when they need to house workers for a long-term project, whether it be the construction of an offshore wind farm in Europe or the shooting of a major film in a remote destination.
In more metropolitan areas, Bridgemans says its ships could lessen the stress an inundation of workers might have on the local housing market.
And once they are no longer needed, the vessels depart and "leave no trace behind," the company said.
Grange said that its deployments — most often for liquified natural gas companies — last for an average of two years.
In the past, it has also provided accommodations for MSC Cruises at its Ocean Cay private island and housing for more than 1,000 workers in the Philippines' on a project for the Manila International Airport during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The floatel operator acquired its largest ship, the 561-foot-long MV Isabelle X, in 2023.
In its past life, the 35-year-old vessel sailed around the Baltic Sea as one of Estonia-based Tallink Gruipp's cruise ships.
But gone are its days of leisurely cruising. The 35,000 gross-ton ship is now on its first deployment in Howe Sound, just north of Vancouver, where it's housing more than 600 workers who are building Woodfibre LNG's "net zero" LNG export facility.
The process included updating the ship's cabins and adding amenities like a game room and an 8,000-square-foot gym.
The latter two are especially important: "We need to make sure we delineate between work and home," Grange told BI. "We have to create a social environment on board these vessels that makes it attractive for workforces around the world."
The sports lounge has large television screens, while the games lounge has darts, ping pong tables, and air hockey.
Or, they could recharge and catch up on the latest shows in their cabins, which all come with desks, storage, and 32-inch televisions.
The ships' chefs tailor their menus to the demographic and dietary restrictions of the workers on board, the company's president told BI.
Residents can expect at least four protein options, plenty of veggies, and handmade bread and desserts.
Grange says this allows the ships to maintain food quality and consistency in remote locations.
Remember that deployment in the Philippines during COVID-19? He said the ship had packed almost 800 tons of food ahead of the project.
But he did note that the cost of a cabin on the Woodfibre LNG project in Howe Sound is comparable to a hotel room in nearby Vancouver, as is the case with most of its projects near major cities.
According to the company's president, the vessel is small and high-end, likely to be used for sporting events and movie shoots.
It could also be the start of a greater expansion: He hopes to add two or three more vessels to its fleet in the next five years.
Who knows, the next time you see a cruise ship off the coast, there's a slim but possible chance it could be housing workers — not vacationers.

The US Coast Guard has released dramatic footage of the moment a pregnant woman was airlifted from a Disney cruise ship after suffering "health complications".
A MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter was filmed landing on the bow of the Disney Fantasy ship that was sailing 180 miles northwest of Aguadilla in Puerto Rico .
The coastguard said in a statement: "The medevac patient was a 35-year-old pregnant woman, US citizen, who experienced health complications and required a higher level of medical care ashore."
In a video shared on social media, a member of the helicopter crew is seen attaching the stretcher to a rope which is then hoisted, lifting the passenger into the aircraft.
The pregnant passenger was taken to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, where emergency service personnel were waiting, the US Coast Guard said.
She was later transported to the Centro Medico Hospital to receive treatment.
"Our crew was able to quickly, safely, and efficiently execute a long-range medevac for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required," Lieutenant Commander Todd Stephens said.
"This case demonstrates the value of good crew resource management and the capabilities of our Jayhawk helicopter."
Ensign Michael Riccio, the coastguard's leader for the case, added: "We are glad everything came together to help this passenger."

He added: "The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the coastguard personnel and units involved made all the difference."

It operates five ships that sail across the globe, stopping at destinations in Europe, Australia, Alaska and the Bahamas - including the company's own private island Castaway Cay.
HONOLULU (AP) — One person died and multiple people were injured when a shuttle bus collided with pedestrians and concrete barriers at a Honolulu cruise ship terminal, authorities said Friday.
The crash occurred when the shuttle bus driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake, Honolulu police said in statement.
The driver had dropped off customers at Pier 2 when bystanders noticed the bus was moving forward, police said. The driver jumped in the driver’s seat and attempted to stop the vehicle when he stepped on the gas, police said.
One pedestrian, a 68-year-old woman, died. Paramedics took four others in their 50s and 60s to the hospital in serious condition. They also took a man in his 70s to the hospital in stable condition.
Paramedics evaluated and bandaged six others who declined transportation to the hospital, said Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Shayne Enright.
Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.
