A Guide to Island Hopping in Bohol
Around Bohol
If you’re planning on a trip to Bohol, then one of the things you should never miss is an island-hopping tour. There are over 70 islands and islets off of the shores of Bohol, each offering its very own distinct characters. For one of the most convenient and exciting island-hopping itineraries, the Alona-Balicasag-Virgin Island itinerary is a definite must-try.
In this tour, you get to enjoy dolphin-watching on your way to Balicasag Island, swim with sea turtles on the island, and enjoy a beautiful sandbar in the middle of the Bohol Sea. And guess what? You get to experience all of these in a mere 6-hour tour.
Booking the Tour
There are several options when it comes to booking your island-hopping tour in Bohol . You can book it in advance online, so you don’t have to worry about it anymore when you’re already on the island. This also makes comparing prices and packages of several tour operators a lot easier. If you’d rather do it personally, you can book it with one of the tour operators and boat owners ready to offer you the best deals.
While booking online is convenient, booking your tour at Alona Beach allows you to haggle for prices. You can choose a private boat, which can be more expensive, or a group tour where you share the boat with 6 to 8 other people. Most hotels or villas in Bohol also have their very own island-hopping tours, which can be the most convenient way to book a tour. If it’s not available, hotels usually have partnerships with island hopping tour operators whom they entrust with their guests.
Tour Package
Now let’s get down to business. Usually, the prices for an island-hopping tour in Bohol include the boat rental, life jacket rental, and two stops – Balicasag Island and Virgin Island. If you want to rent snorkeling gear or have meals during the tour, you may need to pay extra. You might also have to pay for environmental or municipal fees. Make sure you check the package inclusions so you know which services may incur additional costs.
Destinations and Tour Itinerary
Here is the usual itinerary for your island-hopping tour in Bohol:
1. Pick-up at Alona Beach
Island-hopping tours usually start at Alona Beach, which is one of the best beaches of Bohol . Make sure you arrive early so you can maximize the time that you have. Most tours start at 6 am, just before sunrise. If you aren’t able to have some breakfast, you may want to pack some snacks so that you don’t get hungry during the tour. You can also consider bringing your own lunch if meals are not included in your tour package.

2. Transfer to Balicasag Island
The boat ride from Alona Beach to Balicasag Island takes about 30 minutes. Along the way, you will be treated to spinner dolphins showing off on the surface. Your boat driver will get up close to these marine creatures, where you will see them somersaulting and accompanying your boat for a few seconds or minutes as you traverse the Bohol Sea. It’s an exciting sight to behold as they seem to dance around your boat.
It’s important to note, however, that there may be instances where dolphins choose to stay below the water, especially during certain weather conditions. Don’t worry, though, as Balicasag is home to about 11 species of dolphins so the probability of seeing them is quite high in these waters.
3. Balicasag Island
Balicasag is quite a small island, being only 600 meters in diameter but it’s full of life. In fact, it is considered by many as one of the top dive spots in Bohol . Plenty of locals call this island home, and it’s easy to find native huts and small stores on the island. Balicasag is a marine sanctuary which means the abundance of marine life is bountiful. Snorkeling here is a definite must-do as you will be reward with vibrant reefs and plenty of colorful fish underwater. Divers are also rewarded with sightings of giant sea turtles, where you can peacefully swim with these gentle creatures on the reef.

4. Virgin Island
About a 20-minute boat ride from Balicasag is Virgin Island, which is not exactly an island but it’s a large sand bar where boats sell everything from fresh seafood, pearls, and native jewelry. You can purchase seafood and locals will grill them for you right on the spot.
Photo: Just One Way Ticket
One of Bohol’s most Instagrammable spots , this beautiful white sandbar seems to pop out of nowhere, which makes for an interesting last stop before heading back to the mainland.
5. Drop-off at Alona Beach
The tour will end at about 12 noon, which is perfect for lunchtime along Alona Beach, where resorts and restaurants offer both local and international cuisine right by the beach.
This island-hopping tour in Bohol brings you to two of the most beautiful islets nearest Panglao Island. If you’re planning a vacation in Bohol, make sure that visiting these two islands is on your itinerary.

Balicasag Island Tour & Virgin Island Bohol – 2024 Guide
An island-hopping tour to Balicasag Island and Virgin Island Bohol is an absolute MUST on your Bohol itinerary.
The Bohol Island Hopping tour package includes dolphin watching from the boat, snorkeling with sea turtles on Balicasag Island Bohol, and a visit to the unique sand bar on Virgin Island Bohol.
It was by far the highlight of my trip and I can’t recommend this tour enough.
Here is the ultimate guide to visiting both of these islands including where to book and what to expect on the tour!

BALICASAG ISLAND AND VIRGIN ISLAND TOUR – OVERVIEW
Wondering how to get to Balicasag Island?
I recommend booking the Bohol Island Hopping itinerary online in advance with GetYourGuide .
The Bohol island-hopping tour takes around five to six hours from start to finish.
It includes transport by boat from Panglao to Balicasag Island, secondly to Virgin Island Bohol, and then finally returning back to Panglao.
BEST BALICASAG ISLAND TOUR
The BEST way to visit is to join a Balicasag Island Tour and Dolphin Watching With Lunch !
It includes transportation, all entrance fees, lunch, and a fun guide!
MY EXPERIENCE ON THE BALICASAG ISLAND TOUR
Our trip began at 5:45 am when my friends and I met our skipper and guide at the meeting point down on Alona Beach in Panglao.
The first mission was to find dolphins on our way over to Balicasag and we got lucky when one breached out of the water right next to our boat.
My buddy also spotted a stingray flying out of the water nearby.
It all happened so fast that I couldn’t get my camera out quickly enough to capture it all.
I guess some experiences like this are best left unphotographed. But damn I wish I had my camera at the ready.
As the boat neared Balicasag, which is only a 30-minute trip over from Panglao, we could already see the colorful reef from the boat, that’s how insanely clear and pristine the water is.
I know I have repeated these words quite frequently but the water surrounding the island was arguably the bluest water I have ever seen!
BALICASAG ISLAND SNORKELING
Balicasag Island is home to one of the best beaches in Bohol purely for its glistening white sands and abundant marine life just offshore.
When you arrive on the boat for the Balicasag island hopping, you can rent snorkeling equipment from one of the many shacks dotted along the beach.
A mask and snorkel costs 150 Pesos and then they will try to charge you an extra 250 Pesos for a guide which is not necessary.
Just pay for your snorkel set and walk around to the opposite side of the island where there are fewer tourist boats.
The majority of the tourists snorkel on the side of the island where all the boats are parked but definitely veer away from this area and head to the other side of the island.

The BEST Hotel in Bohol
Need a place to stay? Amorita Resort is conveniently located in the heart of Panglao.
Whether you’re here to explore the sights or relax in comfort, Amorita Resort offers the best of both worlds.
This island hopping tour Bohol and snorkeling in Balicasag Island was the highlight of my trip to Bohol.
As soon as I dived into the shallow waters with my mask and snorkel I spotted a sea turtle cruising across the reef about 5 meters from the shoreline.
I remember squealing like a little girl with excitement! I knew this place was renowned for sea turtles residing in the reefs here but I did not expect to find one that easily.
We spent at least two hours snorkeling around the reef and swam with about 15 different turtles. It was a morning that I will never forget!
Apart from turtles, we saw many colorful corals and countless species of fish beneath the surface.

VIRGIN ISLAND BOHOL
After a memorable few hours spent on Balicasag, we then continued the Bohol Island Hopping Tour over to Virgin Island Bohol Philippines.
It was still high tide when we arrived on Virgin Island Bohol so the sand bar wasn’t completely exposed.
And on top of that, we were 1 of about 30 other tourist boats that were also parked up on the island. Just as a reference, the Virgin Island Bohol entrance fee is only 200 pesos, which is reasonable.
I was a little deterred by the number of tourists at first, but when I got off the boat to explore the shallow waters around the sand bar it was quite interesting to see what was going on.
Before even having the chance to set foot on the sand bar, a local jewelry seller had boarded our boat and tried convincing us to buy a couple of pearl necklaces.
Once we kindly denied his offer we were able to get off and stroll around.
Most of Virgin Island Panglao consists of floating seafood kitchens which were quite an amusing scene to watch.
You could go up to the boat that had the most appealing seafood and choose whatever you felt like trying such as lobsters, sea urchins, calamari, and fish which they would boil or grill right in front of you.
Have you got travel insurance for your trip?!
We all know accidents can happen and having Heymondo Insurance will save you thousands of dollars if something goes wrong.
Heymondo offers low-cost Travel Insurance to keep you covered on all your adventures.
There was also the option to sit on benches and tables that were half-submerged in water to enjoy your fresh meal.
Apart from that, there isn’t a whole lot to do on Virgin Island Bohol but it’s a very unique experience that I am sure you will enjoy this island hopping Panglao offers!
The last leg of the boat ride from Virgin Island Bohol to Alona Beach in Panglao takes around 20 minutes and you should arrive back on the mainland around 12 pm just in time for lunch.

Bohol Island Hopping Private Tour to Balicasag & Virgin Islands with Dolphin Watching & Transfers
Description
Discover islands with rich marine life in this private Bohol island-hopping tour of Balicasag and Virgin Islands. This is perfect for those interested in lounging, swimming, and seeing different kinds of underwater species all in one day. It is inclusive of roundtrip boat transfers, entrance fees, and the services of a guide.
You will be picked up by your guide at your accommodations in Panglao around 5 to 6 AM. Your first activity for the day is Balicasag Island dolphin watching. On the way to Balicasag Island , you'll head to a spot in the sea that dolphins are known to frequent. Keep in mind that seeing dolphins isn't a given. However, if you're fortunate, you could get a glimpse of these gentle creatures in action. If you do get lucky, observe them in their natural habitat and appreciate the moment. Make sure to follow the proper dolphin-watching practices to avoid disturbing them.
After that, you'll go on your Bohol Balicasag Island tour . This stunning island has become a top snorkeling and diving destination due to the abundance of sea turtles that inhabit the area. While in here, take a dip in its azure waters or stroll along its white sand beach. Take some photos as the idyllic charm of the island makes a perfect backdrop.
The last destination for your island-hopping activity is Virgin Island , where a beautiful white sandbar awaits. Take a walk around the island and cool yourself in its crystalline waters. While here, you might see starfish scattered around the waters, but it still depends based on the season. Make sure to take some photos and enjoy the rest of your trip before heading back to the hotel.
Make the most out of your Bohol getaway by joining an island-hopping tour with a chance to see dolphins. Check the availability by choosing a date.
DISCLAIMER: Seeing dolphins on this tour is NOT GUARANTEED. While your guide will try their best to assist you in spotting these creatures, the behavior of these dolphins may sometimes be unpredictable, and there is a possibility that you may not encounter one during your tour.

- hnephew 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Stay away if you want to be safe. Worst experience ever! We had the ATV included in a private tour. We got a car with two seats. There were many problems with the ATV: 1. When you turned the steering wheel the wheel did not react until the wheel had been turned 180 degrees. That was the same for both left and right turns. 2. The brakes did not work at all causing me to almost hit the guide’s car several times. 3. When using the accelerator, it was not possible to gradually increase the speed; it was either very slow or full throttle. Along the trails we saw many strandes ATW:s. For obvious reasons we skipped going up the Chocolate Hill. We asked to see the owner, but he was conveniently not there. Of you want to stay safe, avoid this company. In addition, I saw that there was another • (very bad) evaluation on this company that had been removed the second time I went back to Tripadvisor; is it really possible to remove • (very bad) evaluation? That group’s experience was even worse than ours, where the owner has said that ”it is normal that the brakes do not always work”! Read more Written April 28, 2024

Rudibg The little boat during the want ocean water. the waves were scary on the shore. The boat you ride could go up and down Maybe 1meter. Its Like a roller coaster. Maybe they should NOT even open on wavy days or informed the tourist before they pay. The whale shark encoubter itself wasnt bad. But since it Was wavy, the kids got seasick. - Teresa W 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not for the weak hearted To begin with the advertisement for this trip needs to change the age range from 0 to 100 to 10 to 50. We expected to have the tour company that we signed up with be our host. Instead we were picked up from our hotel by a contract company which only facilitated the day trip that was on the itinerary. They had no idea where our next hotel stay would be, so we had to contact the tour company or Dennis to find out where we would be staying that night. On the day we were to go on the first tour hopping. We were told that we needed to pay additional money. We contacted Dennis and he cleared up the miscommunication, as we went to board our boat, we were told that we had to ride in a kayak to get to the boat. For someone like myself who is 65 years old climbing in and out of a kayak to climb onto a boat was a challenge. The hotels were very nice, the breakfast were very nice. The meals that were included were very nice but this trip is not for anyone who is not reasonably physically fit. As you will have to step from one boat to another to board your vessel, if you don’t have a knowledge of the language this trip would present a problem for you. We also had a problem with our boat tickets from El Nido to Coron we received copies of these tickets, but the harbor requires a hardcopy of the ticket. My husband is 6 foot four and the vans that we traveled in were packed and there wasn’t a lot of legroom from Puerta princesa to El Nido is a 6 Hour Dr., so it was very uncomfortable. Dennis was very quick to communicate with us when we ran into problems but unfortunately that wasn’t enough to make this trip one that I would recommend for someone of age or of my age which is 65. - JayM04 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing island and people Going to Siquijor is a must when in Dumaguete. Just a ferry away, for 1 1/2 hrs, you got to visit the place. The locals are friendly and helpful. Thumbs-up for this province's hospitality and friendliness. The Tourism Officials have done a good job in maintaining the place. I've only done a pocket tour and the Coastal tour blew me up. Nice places to visit and unwind. One of the best sunsets I have seen at Pitogo Cliff and Paliton Beach. Paliton beach may be a public beach but it is a good place to swim and take pictures. Cambugahay and Lugnason are also fun to go to, especially witnessing how the human drone works in Cambugahay. Feel free to ask the locals or guides to take your pictures via human drone. Guides from this sites are very knowledgeable and knows how to take food pictures. Of course, there's the Tubod and Tulapos Marine Sanctuary, which you'll love going snorkeling or even scuba diving. Siquijor is an all-in-one tourist destination. You got beaches, good sunrise and sunsets, fun falls, abundant mountains and underground river too, so what else can you ask for plus good food at Larena and hospitable locals.. - TGB2019 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to spend the day in Honda bay Trip taken Nov 21 2022. The van picked us up from the Fersal hotel around 730 to drive us to Honda Bay. Kudos to our driver for navigating through Puerto Princesa traffic. We visited Starfish, Luli, and Cowrie islands. Lots of good swimming and snorkeling. Lunch provided at Starfish island (fish, fruits, soda. and of course rice). Nice hammocks to rest on at Luli. Starfish island lived up to its name, saw about 10 starfish while swimming about. The water was murky at Cowrie, so no chance to see fish of any kind. 300php charged as environmental fee upon entrance to Starfish island. Snorkel rentals 250php. Weather was overcast, but NO RAIN, which was a concern as it had rained heavily the previous 4 days in town. Back at hotel around. 415p. I recommend this trip. Read more Written November 21, 2022

At all) the best this that I can tell is It Amazing Fun, and the guide, they are multi talent.
