the time traveler's wife

The Time Traveler's Wife

Adapted by Steven Moffat from the beloved novel of the same name,  The Time Traveler’s Wife  follows the spellbinding and intricately out-of-order love story between Clare (Rose Leslie of HBO’s  Game of Thrones ), and Henry (Theo James of  Divergent),  and a marriage with a problem...time travel.

At six years old, Clare meets Henry, the future love of her life – and who, as a time traveler, is actually visiting from the future. Fourteen years later, when a beautiful redhead wanders into the library where Henry works claiming not only to have known him all her life but to be his future wife, a magical romance ensues that is as sprawling and complicated as Henry's attempts to explain his "condition." Over six hourlong episodes, the genre-bending drama series expertly weaves themes of love, loss, marriage, and survival – in a story that defies the laws and logic of time.

‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ Review: Making the Leap, Again

HBO’s new adaptation of the best-selling sci-fi romance comes from a “Sherlock” creator and “Doctor Who” mainstay.

time travellers wife 2022

By Mike Hale

History is the thing that happens twice, first as tragedy, then as farce. Now there’s another thing: “The Time Traveler’s Wife.” The question is whether the second time around is an improvement.

The first adaptation of the blockbuster novel by Audrey Niffenegger, a 2009 film starring Eric Bana as Henry, the time-hopping librarian, and a luminous Rachel McAdams as Clare, his long-suffering love, went for the tear ducts. From the book’s grab-bag of themes and feelings, the film latched onto predestination and sorrow and got more lugubrious as it went along.

Thirteen years later, we have an HBO series, beginning Sunday, again with the same title as the book. Created by the British writer and producer Steven Moffat , who wrote all six episodes of the first season, it can’t completely escape the book’s maudlin pull, but it offers both a more lighthearted and a tougher take than the film. It capitalizes on the possibilities for slapstick offered by Henry’s constant buck-naked, “Terminator”-style tumbles into unexpected times and places. And it restores the testiness and jealousy (and copious sex) between Clare and Henry that was muffled in the movie’s gauzy telling.

Moffat’s involvement was the reason to have some hope for, or at least be curious about, this new adaptation. The love of puzzles and sleight of hand and general narrative complexity that he has demonstrated, often with considerable ingenuity, in “Doctor Who” and “Sherlock” seemed to make him a good match for the nerdy science-fiction side of Niffenegger’s book. And the best moments in Moffat’s series are ones that get into the details of how time travel works, or that show the tricks Henry uses to communicate with himself or manipulate events across time.

It’s still “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” though, and you can’t get away from the material, a stilted mix of sentimentality, doomy fatalism, truisms about love and queasily sexualized romance that sold several million copies. Niffenegger’s gift for sexed-up fantastical melodrama drew in a ton of readers , including Moffat, who based an episode of “Doctor Who” (“The Girl in the Fireplace”) on the novel.

Given the chance to adapt the real thing, Moffat and the director David Nutter (“Game of Thrones”) have made it watchable — favoring humor and action over soap opera — but they haven’t managed to conjure the emotion, or dramatize the ideas, that so many people seem to find in the story. A device of breaking away to have older versions of Henry and Clare speak straight to the camera, as if being filmed for a documentary, echoes the book’s alternating first-person narration but also exposes the script’s notions about soul mates, absence and fate for the dull platitudes they are.

They’re easy enough to sit through, however, when they’re being delivered by performers as amiably earnest and unfussily attractive as Rose Leslie and Theo James, who play Clare and Henry as adults. Younger versions of Clare are played, charmingly, by Everleigh McDonell and Caitlin Shorey. This is where the queasy part comes in: the story’s central conceit that the lovers meet when Clare is 6 and an adult Henry tumbles naked onto her family’s estate. They continue to have private and increasingly intense meetings throughout her childhood and adolescence.

The idea is that because Henry is married to Clare in the future before ever meeting her as a child, there’s a purity to their “little girl hanging out with 30-something guy” encounters. Again, this is easy enough to accept in the series, partly because James has an innate courtliness and partly because Nutter stages their meetings in a slightly heightened, fairy-tale style.

Those pastoral interludes are respites from Henry’s other travels backward and forward in time, which can involve landing on subway tracks or on top of easily angered motorcycle-club members. This other side of the story, in which the time travel is a curse and Henry is constantly in danger of being beaten up, arrested or killed, gives the series its energy.

The action, and the elements of mystery that accompany it, don’t really make up for the insipidity of the melodrama. Of course, many people, particularly those who bought the book, may disagree with that. Those viewers will be most concerned with how HBO’s decision to make “The Time Traveler’s Wife” a continuing series affects the storytelling. There are moments in the show that point toward an eventual ending in line with the book, but in the meantime there are major plot elements that are barely arrived at or remain entirely absent.

Will Moffat get to finish telling his version of the story? Only Henry knows for sure.

Fans of Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife received some welcomed news back in 2018, when HBO announced that it would be producing a series based on the novel. Now, it is one of the most anticipated new TV shows of 2022.

Although when the story of Henry DeTamble and Clare Anne Abshire was put on the big screen it received mixed reviews , HBO hopes its television drama garners more critical acclaim. Especially, since the series sees the award-winning romance in the hands of Emmy winner David Nutter, a director whose credits include Game of Thrones, as well as Doctor Who and Sherlock writer Steven Moffat .

Here’s everything we know about The Time Traveler’s Wife .

The Time Traveler’s Wife trailer

Although there are arguments to be made as to the story being more of a science fiction piece, The Time Traveler's Wife trailer makes it quite clear that the series leans more into the story’s romantic roots. One can’t help but watch it and almost feel as if HBO is hoping to capture some of The Notebook kind of magic with the series.

The Time Traveler’s Wife plot

 HBO describes the series as:

“An intricate and magical love story, adapted by Steven Moffat from the much-loved novel by Audrey Niffenegger and directed by David Nutter. The Time Traveler’s Wife tells the story of Clare and Henry, and a marriage with a problem... time travel.”

For those less familiar with the popular The Time Traveler's Wife novel on which the series is based,  the book follows Henry DeTamble and Claire Anne Abshire.  He’s a librarian with a genetic disorder that causes him to involuntarily travel through time, and she’s his wife and an artist who must deal with his frequent absences. Naturally, his unique ability causes its own set of relationship woes, but his time-traveling also forces the pair to get to know each other in ways most real-life couples are never compelled to explore.

The Time Traveler’s Wife cast

Theo James and Rose Leslie embrace in The Time Traveler's Wife

At the helm of The Time Traveler’s Wife cast are Theo James and Rose Leslie, playing Henry and Claire respectively. James is most recognized for his role as Tobias "Four" Eaton in The Divergent trilogy, as well as the hit show Sanditon . Leslie should also be a familiar face to viewers as she has starred in Downton Abbey , Game of Thrones and most recently, The Good Fight .

The entire main cast is as follows:

The Time Traveler's Wife

In the clearing behind her home, six-year-old Clare Abshire encounters 36-year-old time traveler Henry DeTamble for the first time. Fourteen years later, an unexpected reunion at the library where he works gives Henry the opportunity to meet Clare – and their love story begins...again.

After a rocky start, Clare struggles to rectify this version of Henry with the man she's known - and loved - all her life.

After meeting her soulmate at age six, Clare laments a linear lifetime defined by waiting for Henry's unpredictable appearances. Meanwhile, an incident at a high school party finds a distraught teenage Clare turning to Henry for help.

Clare hosts a couples’ dinner party to introduce Henry to her roommate Charisse and best friend Gomez, but when it’s crashed by another Henry and his girlfriend Ingrid, deeply held secrets are revealed. Despite years spent together in the clearing, Henry finally has a chance to step inside Clare’s home – and meet her difficult-to-please family for the first time. Meanwhile, Henry and Gomez’s path to best friendship is anything but straightforward.

With his and Clare’s wedding day fast approaching, a high-stress Henry suddenly begins to travel more than ever and grows increasingly desperate to find a solution – even if it means leaning on his estranged father, Richard. Clare (Rose Leslie) in The Time Traveler’s Wife

The Time Traveler’s Wife review – far too much ick factor to be truly great

Steven Moffat’s adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 bestseller is witty and well done, but it can’t overcome the novel’s depressingly old-fashioned and iffy implications

A lan Bennett once defined a classic as a book everyone is assumed to have read and often thinks they have. For a modern bestseller, the formula needs rejigging only slightly – a book everyone feels they have read, even if they have gone out of their way to avoid it. Even if Bridget Jones’s Diary or The Da Vinci Code are not your bag, you absorb so much by osmosis that it becomes irrelevant whether or not you have scanned the pages.

As such, most people know the basics of The Time Traveler’s Wife, Audrey Niffenegger’s debut that – aided by a 2009 film adaptation – has sold in its millions since it was published in 2003. A librarian called Henry has a rare genetic disorder that causes him to travel through time at random, landing dazed and naked wherever the cosmos takes him. He learns to find his feet (and some clothes) a little faster each time. In the course of his many unchronological journeys, he meets his soulmate, Clare. They are wrenched repeatedly from each other’s arms to reunite weeks, months or years later in more or less romantic scenarios, depending on their ages at the time.

It is, in short, guff of a high order. But the new six‑part adaptation (Sky Atlantic) by Steven Moffat (a longtime fan of the book, which he used as inspiration for the Doctor Who episode The Girl in the Fireplace) does it proud. He takes the melodrama down a notch and salts the schmaltz with wit where he can.

Nonetheless, an emetic framing device remains. Each episode opens with Clare (Rose Leslie, joyfully channelling the spark of Game of Thrones’ Ygritte, rather than the drippiness of The Good Fight’s Maia) and/or Henry (Theo James, acquitting himself well after many years paying dues in Divergent films) talking wistfully about their lives. It is an unnecessary few minutes of marking time while they say things such as: “The future is something that turns up when you’re looking for something else,” and: “For everyone else, the past is over. For me, I’m still trying to survive it.”

At least the queasiness is tackled head-on … The Time Traveler's Wife.

Once the action kicks in, though, Moffatt keeps a tight hold on the reins. He allows Henry’s appearances, disappearances and reappearances to create a choppy energy rather than chaos. The great trauma of Henry’s past (and future, as he returns to the scene at various ages, always powerless to avert his mother’s fate) is unpacked, while troubles are foreshadowed from different angles and eras before they come to pass. James makes credible Henry’s evolution from brash young “asshole” – Clare’s word – to god among men, even if the camera panning mournfully across the piles of clothes he leaves behind every time he vanishes is always inescapably amusing. The feet thing – I shall say no more for fear of spoilers – raises similar issues.

It is a good story, well retold, but it has two intrinsic problems to overcome – and hurdles one more successfully than the other. The first is the ick factor occasioned by Henry’s many visits as a grown man to Clare as a child. This raised eyebrows in 2003 and sensitivities have only increased since. Moffatt confronts it head-on by having Henry acknowledge the viewer’s potential discomfort (via a line from Clare about grooming her My Little Pony), but a queasiness remains inevitable.

The other problem is more deep-rooted. Niffenegger’s story is built around Clare’s passivity. Her life, while not static or unfulfilled professionally, is defined by waiting for Henry. Her happiness depends on his random visits. More profoundly, her whole being and sexuality are shaped around him from the very earliest days. It reminds me more of the terrible messaging in Twilight – subsume thyself, woman! Don’t knock true love off its course by being yourself! – than an adult romance.

It is slightly depressing, chiming more with the elements of society that would like women to make themselves smaller and quieter and cede space and rights to louder others than with the elements that encourage them to strike the board and cry: “No more!” I would rather a series that felt as if it was with those who want to push us forward, rather than back in time.

Henry de Tamble (James) has a unique disability. He is a time traveler , which has been a horrible burden that he’s been afflicted with since he was 8 . Very frequently, he disappears from wherever and whenever he is and appears in another time and place with nothing in the way of tools or clothes on his person , and he has had to learn to survive by running, fighting and stealing. The only other people he knows with his disorder are himself along with future or past versions of himself that he frequently runs into .

Henry's life changes when he meets a young woman named Clare Abshire (Leslie) who knows him well and claims to be his future wife. Since she was 6, Clare has had run-ins with Henry at different ages, and has become close to him over 14 years, learning he’ll be her husband in the future. When she finally meets a version of him that has never met her, she’s upset to learn he’s not yet the man she fell in love with.

On July 1, 2022, it was announced that the series had been cancelled after one season.

The series provides examples of:

  • Covering Up Your Gray : Due to some time traveling shenanigans, the version of Henry who attends his wedding to Clare is an older future version with graying hair. He strongly associates the event with shoe polish, because he'd used it to darken his hair in order to pass as his younger self.
  • Have We Met Yet? : As a child, Clare meets and gets to know a time-traveling Henry in his thirties and forties who is already married to her in the future (though he hides this from the younger Clare until she is 16). An adult Clare then meets a younger Henry who is 28 and has no idea who she is.
  • Jerkass : Henry is not very nice after 20 years of being a time traveler. He frequently fights strangers to steal their clothes, cheated on his girlfriend with Clare and is not very patient with time-traveling versions of himself, past or present. He’s shown to grow out of this later.
  • Married in the Future : Clare and Henry of course, from the perspective of their present-day 2008 selves anyway (and earlier for Clare). Though Season 1 ends with their wedding.
  • Other Me Annoys Me : Whenever two versions of Henry run into each other, they do not get along, especially when they are both adults.
  • Screw Yourself : When Henry was 16 he performed oral sex on a time-traveling version of himself, also 16. His dad walked in on him and this is how he found out he was a time traveler.
  • Setting Update : The book’s present day events take place in 1991-2007. This series’ present is 2008-2024.
  • Henry and Clare's relationship is obviously a consequence of this. Both of them first meet a version of the other that has known them already for years and is aware that they are Married in the Future , and fall in love with someone who's already in love with them. At one point, Clare comments that she and Henry didn't really "choose each other" and that their relationship "just happened". Significantly, Henry and Clare both shape each other into the people they fell in love with. Clare's entire life and personality was shaped by frequent visits from time-traveling future Henry. Later, Clare's relationship with younger Henry in turn shapes him into the time-traveling future Henry who shaped her...
  • Shortly after Henry's first meeting with Clare in 2008, she shows him a notebook with a list of dates in the past when they met, telling him that he gave her those dates in advance, having memorized them from the notebook she's showing him now. She lampshades the fact that this information has come from nowhere.
  • As an adult, Henry frequently travels back to train his younger self in the specific survival skills he'd need while time-traveling.
  • Henry's lifelong friendship with Gomez and Charisse begins when a future version of him travels back to their first meeting in 2008 and tells them all that they are close friends in the future.
  • A minor but significant example - 28 year old Henry has long, wild hair, while his more mature future self who Clare fell in love with has short hair. The younger Henry eventually gets his hair cut to match his future self after seeing a portrait of him that Clare made as a teenager.
  • Time Travel for Fun and Profit : One of the few benefits of Henry's condition. His trips to the future enable him and Clare to win the lottery. A future Henry also provides 2008 Gomez with stock tips, which leads to Gomez being a prosperous lawyer with a Cool Car by 2022.
  • At the end of the first episode, 28 year old Henry finds two frozen severed feet with his birthmark on one of them, letting him know that one day he won’t be able to run, which is key to his survival.
  • At a tense party where there are two Henrys, young Henry’s girlfriend Ingrid heartbreakingly comes to the conclusion that she’s dead in the near future by the way older Henry looks at her. She also surmises that it’s suicide since she’s attempted it before.
  • When 36 year old Henry time-travels to the day of his wedding in 2008, the way he looks at his dad makes the latter realize that he's likely dead in the time period this Henry comes from.

Movie Reviews

Tv/streaming, collections, great movies, chaz's journal, contributors, the time traveler's wife is a waste in every possible way.

time travellers wife 2022

The real star of HBO’s adaptation of “The Time Traveler’s Wife”—based on Audrey Niffenegger ’s 2003 novel, which was turned into a movie starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana in 2009—isn’t Rose Leslie , who plays Claire, and whom you’d hardly recognize as Ygritte from “Game of Thrones,” due to her near-perfect American accent. Theo James —who plays Henry, Claire’s creeptastic time-traveling boyfriend and eventual husband—isn’t the star either, and not just because his wooden performance would be more interesting if he were actually a tree. No, the real star of this woeful, pointless television programme is its toxic gender and sexual politics.

The plot here could have been created by shoving every rom-com made between 1995 and 2005, plus a copy of Christopher Nolan ’s “ Interstellar ,” into an autoregressive language model. When she’s six years old, Claire Abshire meets Henry de Tamble (and people think my name is weird) in a meadow near her rich parents’ idyllic country home. Henry is in his 30s. He is naked when he first meets Claire, a child , so he requests that she bring him some of her father’s clothes, and leave them in a box under a rock, so they stay dry because he might/will return. She happily performs this task, and the pair strike up what the series would like to call a friendship, but I prefer to think of it as straight-up grooming. From ages 6 to 18, Claire, in her own words, shapes her libido around Henry. Claire flirts with him once she’s 16, even though the Henry she has met has always been at least 30 years old, often even older. (She even says to him that she resented his unavailability during her “very horny adolescence.”) Based on his comments, tween Claire deduces that in the future, she and Henry are married. Eww.

time travellers wife 2022

It gets worse. The Henry that Claire meets in her 20s, when she is an art student and he is working in a library, is “an asshole.” He drinks too much, and it is implied he is an abusive boyfriend. Claire longs for the Henry she met when she was a child , and cannot have that Henry yet because it is she, through her love, care, and consistent support, who turns him into the loving, caring, and supportive Henry he becomes.

Different versions of Henry hop around timelines so convoluted even Abed Nadir from “Community” would find them impossible to analyze. Sometimes they are linear, sometimes they’re not, and no matter the timeline the writing, acting, directing, editing, and music range from mediocre to horrible. Blake Neely ’s hackneyed string-and-piano-heavy score, which could have easily been borrowed from any Lifetime or Hallmark movie, backs almost every scene in the series. Using music as a substitute for storytelling doesn’t work if the story is preposterous to begin with. The color grading in the series is, 99% of the time, yellow, orange, and pink, but at a party just before Henry and Claire’s wedding, the lighting suddenly changes to [insert “Scooby Doo”-style ghost noises] dark blue and grey. Thank you, writers’ room, for signaling dark and serious things are about to happen!

time travellers wife 2022

Henry does not control where he goes, or when, or for how long, but multiple versions of him, at different ages, show up at significant events: the violent car accident that killed his mother, an opera singer ( Kate Siegel , whose performance is bizarrely over the top, and whose hair and wardrobe seem stuck in a soap opera from 1978), which Henry witnessed because he was in the backseat. As the “story” gets closer to his and Claire’s wedding day, he travels back and forth from the hours just before he’s due at the church, and various grim moments in the couple’s often stormy marriage. Oh, I almost forgot: interspersed throughout the six episodes to which I was subjected are moments when Henry and Claire break the fourth wall. They separately make video recordings of themselves after their wedding, presumably for the daughter it is implied they will have. All we get out of these scenes is what happens when Leslie and James meet the hair and makeup department’s prosthetics budget.

“The Time Traveler’s Wife” features exactly three decent performances. First is Rose Leslie, best known for setting Jon Snow (Kit Harington) straight (and then marrying him in real life ); she does her best to elevate the material. Her movements and facial expressions are considered, occasionally sweetly moving, reflecting a depth unmatched by almost all her castmates. (As for Henry, I feel more excitement installing a new roll of toilet paper than from watching James act. His facial expressions, like the weather in Los Angeles, never change.) The second is Jason David, who plays child Henry. His performance as a boy who has begun to appear and disappear from school, and even his own bed, is imbued with age-appropriate wonder and fear, but he is heartbreakingly corrupted by older versions of himself, who teach him how to fight, steal, and lie in order to survive each trip through time. (Showing up naked in random places is quite tricky, you see.)

I’d begun missing David onscreen when I breathed a small sigh of relief: Desmin Borges arrives to play Gomez, Claire’s college roommate’s boyfriend, and the show's third good performance. There are few actors working today more criminally underrated than Borges, whose arc on FX’s “You’re the Worst” is among the best TV performances of the last two decades. Gomez is a lawyer, and utterly bewildered though he is by the two versions of Henry who show up to dinner at Claire’s apartment, he is advised by older Henry to support younger Henry, because “he will need you.” For the love of all that is holy, why do women and people of color have to put aside our own exhaustion and emotions to support white men? Borges provides vital doses of goofball energy, countered by moments of pensive persistence. He and Leslie play well off each other, and their scenes together seem to take place in a different, and better, show.

I do not understand how Steven Moffat went from “Sherlock” to developing this series. Like Netflix’s rubbish “Anatomy of a Scandal,” “The Time Traveler’s Wife” is lazy, a waste of HBO’s enormous resources. We’re all stuck in the same cycle: corporations feed us a steady diet of vapid content, we consume it, they make money off it while we learn to crave it. It’s easy to make dreck. It takes time to make something good.

Six episodes screened for review. Premieres Sunday, May 15.

Who Is Quentin Tarantino's Wife? All About Daniella Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino shares two children with his wife

time travellers wife 2022

Quentin Tarantino and Daniella Tarantino fell in love, took a break and eventually found their way back to each other.

The pair first met in her home country of Israel in 2009 when he was promoting one of his projects. Quentin and Daniella came from the same worlds, both working in film — she is an actress and a model while he is famous for directing some of Hollywood's most iconic movies.

Despite initially hitting it off and starting a relationship, Quentin and Daniella ended their relationship a few years in. Later, around 2016, the couple reunited and got engaged during the summer of the following year.

Quentin and Daniella married in November 2018 and have welcomed two children together — their son Leo arrived in 2020 and their daughter was born two years later.

So, who is Quentin Tarantino's wife? Here is everything to know about Daniella Tarantino and her relationship with the director.

She followed in her father's musical footsteps

Daniella has music in her blood. Her father, Svika Pick, was an Israeli pop star known as the "The Maestro." He was especially popular in the 1970s and became a television personality in Israel years later.

The model and her sister, Sharona, followed in their father's footsteps and performed as a duo called the "Pick Sisters." The siblings sang their original song "Hello, Hello" at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest. Daniella later pursued a solo career and released songs including " More or Less " and " Love Me ."

She appeared in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

Although Daniella is primarily known for her singing, she did have a minor role as Daphna Ben-Cobo in her husband's Golden Globe -winning 2019 film, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood . She also appeared on the Israeli reality show Goalstar and was a guest on the talk show Exit.

"When Quentin shoots a movie, it's a big deal," Daniella told The Jerusalem Post in 2019. "Obviously, I take an active part in it, and [it influences] all the atmosphere at home. It's a very intensive half a year and every day is very important."

She continued, explaining her pride for Quentin, "It's like being with someone who is training for the Olympics, or as Quentin always says, it's like climbing Everest. Quentin is a champion at that. He is so charming, caring and professional. He makes everyone feel great on the set. It made me feel really proud to see that."

She met Quentin while he was promoting a film

Quentin and Daniella met for the first time in her home country of Israel when the director was visiting to promote Inglourious Basterds , the award-winning 2009 film he both wrote and directed. They started a relationship shortly after crossing paths for the first time.

In September of the same year, Quentin and Daniella made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Drew Barrymore 's roller derby film, Whip It .

She married Quentin at their home

After Quentin proposed in 2017, the couple threw an engagement party that acted as an impromptu Pulp Fiction reunion, with guests including Bruce Willis , Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman .

The following year, in November, Quentin and Daniella got married in an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home. He wore a black suit, while she paired her tiara and veil with a sweetheart neckline gown.

She shares two children with Quentin

Quentin and Daniella welcomed their son Leo on Feb. 22, 2020. The couple expanded their family again with the birth of their daughter on July 2, 2022. Quentin explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2021 that their firstborn was named after Daniella's grandfather.

"We almost didn't name him that because people would assume I named him after Leonardo DiCaprio ," he explained, as he worked with the famous actor on Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood and Django Unchained . "There's nothing wrong with that, but ... he's named after my wife's grandfather, but also because, just in our hearts, he was our little lion."

She and Quentin are homebodies

Daniella has shared that she and Quentin love spending a night in. "We are very family-oriented," she told The Jerusalem Post . "We love to be at home, to go out to dinner [and] to watch movies, both at home and at theaters."

The couple also enjoy cooking and inviting friends over. "Quentin really loves my cooking and I make things that I know from home and also new things," she added.

Daniella continued, explaining more about their dynamic as a pair. "We spend a lot of time during the day together, laughing, talking. He's a gentleman, romantic, funny and a hunk," she said. "He's a genius and an incredible husband."

She and Quentin split their time between Israel and the United States

Quentin shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that the couple had begun to split their time between Tel Aviv and L.A. right before the COVID-19 pandemic began. Because of the lockdowns and travel restrictions, he and Daniella spent more time in the Israeli city than they had anticipated. "Three to four months became nine to 12 months," he explained.

The acclaimed director took the opportunity to learn Hebrew. "I've learned a lot of words," Quentin said. "I'm actually learning a lot with Leo, because he watches these baby TV kind of things and it's all in Hebrew. So I'm learning with him."
