NSYNC reunites at Justin Timberlake concert: 'One of the best days of my life' Back to video

In videos posted to Timberlake’s Instagram Story , the crowd at his One Night Only show Wednesday was seen going wild when a large curtain opened to reveal his fellow NSYNC bandmates Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick on stage.

Chrissy Teigen also shared a video of the reunion as the group sang their hit Girlfriend captioning her clip, “Oh my f***ing god @justintimberlake.”

Other fans cheered the reunion on social media, with Cab frontman Bohnes calling it “one of the best days of my life.”

The surprise performance is the first time that the quintet has played live together since the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, when the band reunited to celebrate Timberlake’s Video Vanguard Award.

The other four group members reunited without Timberlake during Ariana Grande’s headlining set at Coachella in 2019.

In addition to Paradise , the fivesome also sang a medley of their past hits, including Girlfriend , Bye Bye Bye and It’s Gonna Be Me .

Timberlake shared a photo of five empty stools at the Wiltern to mark the occasion.

“That was fun. Let’s do it again soon,” Bass, 44, teased in the comments section.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Justin Timberlake (@justintimberlake)

Before Paradise was announced, Timberlake, who broke out with the band in the ’90s before going solo with 2002’s Justified , was asked during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in January about the possibility that NSYNC would record new music together.

“We’ve been in the studio, so there may be a little something in the future, too,” Timberlake replied.

Earlier this month, Bass told USA Today that the song Paradise made his mom emotional.

“We recorded that a long time ago when we recorded Better Place , so we’ve been sitting on this for a while,” Bass said. “Hard not to talk about it. But I’m glad that it’s about to come out because it is such a special song. One of my favourites I’ve ever recorded. My mom cried immediately when she heard it. So it’s Mom-approved.”

In addition to singing together on Paradise , NSYNC reunited for Better Place last year, which featured on the Trolls Band Together soundtrack.

The reunion comes more than 20 years after NSYNC went on an indefinite hiatus following the release of 2001’s Celebrity after Timberlake’s decision to go solo.

During a 2020 interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music Essentials , Timberlake said he always had planned a solo career, long before he was part of the band.

“At that time, everyone had aspirations of doing other things, and we had talked about it,” he told Lowe.

But while a full-blown reunion seems unlikely (Timberlake launches a solo tour next month that will come to Toronto Oct. 17-18), during their appearance at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards in September, where they presented the best pop award to Taylor Swift, the Grammy winner left the door open a crack for something bigger down the line.

“That was fun,” Timberlake said of reuniting. “It’s kind of crazy, like, there’s so much that just picks up right where it left off as far as the chemistry.”

*NSYNC Will Release Their First New Song in Over 20 Years Following VMAs Reunion

Everybody say thank you to... the Trolls franchise?

2023 mtv video music awards backstage

The answer is neither: They’re releasing a new song (their first in more than 20 years!) for the upcoming animated movie Trolls Band Together . The track is called “Better Place” and you can hear the first snippet in the trailer below before it officially drops on September 29.

From the seconds-long tease, it sounds like a feel-good dance tune, true to the family-friendly movie franchise. If it ends up being anything like Justin Timberlake’s Trolls hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” it will surely make its rounds in radio stations, weddings, and CVS stores everywhere.

The collab might seem surprising (those who were hoping for more might say disappointing), but it checks out considering Timberlake stars in the films opposite Anna Kendrick. This threequel feels especially on-theme as it centers on the reunion of a boy band consisting of Branch (Timberlake) and his brothers, voiced by Eric André, Troye Sivan, Daveed Diggs, and Kid Cudi. Sounds like the perfect opportunity for an *NSYNC revival. (Their song “I Want You Back” also appears in the trailer.)

While further reunion news remains in our dreams for now, this isn’t the only time Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, and JC Chasez have come together in recent years. There was the Walk of Fame ceremony in 2018 and even the 2013 VMAs , plus JT has said he and the bandmates are in an “ongoing group chat.” Here’s to hoping there’ll be more appearances in the future.

If you want to see a fictional boy band get back together again, you can watch Trolls Band Together when it hits theaters on November 17.

About the Artists:

Chris Kirkpatrick is an American singer, dancer, actor, and voice actor best known for his work as a founding member of the pop group *NSYNC. As a voice actor, he has worked on numerous kids’ shows, including voicing Chip Skylark’s character on “The Fairly Oddparents.” In 2022, he competed in Season 3 of “Celebrity Big Brother” and “The Masked Singer.”

O-Town ’s story began in 1999, when “Making the Band” chronicled the rise to success of O-Town throughout three seasons of the series on both ABC and MTV. The group’s first two full-length albums included #1 singles, “Liquid Dreams” and “All or Nothing” and the Top 40 hit “We Fit Together.” “All or Nothing” was nominated for Song of the Year at the Radio Music Awards in 2001.

BBMAK was originally formed in 1997, and BBMAK (Mark Barry, Christian Burns, and Stephen McNally) is officially “Back Here” after a 15-year hiatus. The multi-platinum-selling English pop group has sold more than three million albums and had hit singles worldwide before disbanding in 2003. Best known for their self-penned infectious guitar-driven hits “Back Here,” “Out of My Heart,” and “The Ghost of You and Me,” BBMAK was one of the few bands during the pop explosion of the early 2000s to play their own instruments and write their own songs. Billboard recently named “Back Here” the 9th greatest boy band song of all time.

LFO burst onto the scene in 1999 with the #1 smash hit “Summer Girls,” followed by another top-five hit in “Girl on TV” and the top-ten hit “Every Other Time.” Today, lone surviving member Brad Fischetti keeps the name of LFO alive, performing the songs to fans, new and old.

‘N Sync fans demand a reunion tour as band shares new video with throwback photo

Fans are still clamoring for 'N Sync to do a stadium reunion tour after the band announced they're dropping a new song together.

The '90s boy band, made up of Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, released a snippet of the track after reuniting onstage for the first time in a decade at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards Sept. 12.

Since then, Google searches about an 'N Sync reunion tour have skyrocketed with fans desperate to know if they’ll be able to see the beloved boy band perform live and the band has leaned into the speculation and fan fervor by teasing on social media that they have a secret to share.

Fans realized that the band reunited in the studio when it previewed their new song — their first in more than 20 years — for the upcoming film “Trolls Band Together," starring Timberlake. On Sept. 14, 'N Sync released the 40- s econd snippet of the song “Better Place,” which is set to be released in full later this month.

The song is intended to be a "love letter" to 'N Sync fans, Timberlake revealed in an Instagram video of the group recording the song.

But the track and their public appearance has left fans wanting more.

"You know what’s also a love letter to fans? A whole reunion tour," one fan commented on Timberlake's post.

"new *NSYNC song on the Trolls whatever soundtrack??? oh, we are SO getting a reunion tour!!!" someone said on X.

“I really hope *NSYNC didn’t get me all hyped up- to just be coming out (with) a Trolls song I need a damn reunion tour,” another person tweeted.

The band has not announced any plans for a reunion tour, and representatives for the band did not respond to TODAY.com's request for comment.

Universal Pictures previously confirmed to TODAY.com that the band only recorded one new song for the movie.

The growing hype around the return of 'N Sync started after Timberlake posted a video on Instagram Sept. 13 of the group in an elevator talking and laughing. The other four members also posted it on their accounts.

"So five guys walk into an elevator..." Timberlake captioned his post.

He removed the audio from the video, but fans are convinced they're talking about new music and a reunion.

"FIVE GUYS NEED TO WALK INTO A STADIUM AND SING SOME HITS!!!!" someone rebutted in the comments.

"Y’all better be makin’ music in that elevator," Will Smith commented.

"Millennials, start defrosting. It’s our fkin time," another person wrote.

"SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN! All of us 30 something year old Mom’s need to know when we need to find babysitters ASAP!?!?" a third said.

In another video posted to social media, band members used audio of a 1991 scene from "Friends" to say in so many words that if one of them does have information about something, they cannot disclose it until another member does. They mouthed the words as the "Friends" audio played.

"Do you know something?" Timberlake mouthed, to which Fatone mouthed the same question back to him sharply.

"I might know something," Kirkpatrick chimed in, prompting Chasez to quickly slip in, "I might know something too."

"What's the thing you know?" Bass asked everyone.

"Oh no, I can't tell you until you tell me what you know," Timberlake quipped.

"I can't tell you what I know," Fatone rebuffed.

"Well then I can't tell you what I know," Kirkpatrick declared.

Fans who commented on Timberlake's TikTok post of the video say they see right through the cryptic video.

"UGGGGHHHH!!! All y'all be teasing us SOOO BAD!!! just go ahead & announce the tour already! We got ADULT $$ to spend now," someone said.

"They don't know, we know, they know......." someone commented, again referencing "Friends."

"Don't play with our millennial hearts!!" another wrote.

Then on Sept. 19, Timberlake shared a video set to the tune of Simple Plan's "I'm Just a Kid."

In the video, which can be seen here , 'N Sync gathers around and strikes a pose before the clip cuts to them around 20 years ago, posing in the same way.

NSYNC

While the tease videos seemingly hint at the band’s reunion for the new song, fans have pointed out that 'N Sync has also increased their social media presence, and there's now a verified TikTok account under the band's name .

"No cause *Nsync launching a TikTok, getting more active on Ig and Twitter, then updating their website? I know this isn’t just for this damn Trolls movie!" one fan tweeted.

*NSYNC Reunited For A Surprise Performance And Fans Are Really In Their Feels

Fans were “Bringing ‘da Noise” for *NSYNC’s surprise performance.

NSYNC at the 2023 VMAs

While we thought 2002 would be the last time we saw *NSYNC perform, children of the ‘90s were in for a surprise when Justin Timberlake , Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, JC Chasez, and Chris Kirkpatrick reunited for their Trolls Band Together single “Better Place.” While it seemed like the reunion might not go further than that single, the boyband shocked everyone again at a Justin Timberlake concert. Now, fans of the group aren't holding back their excitement about this massive moment.

*NSYNC fans' dreams came true on March 13th when Justin Timberlake was in the middle of singing the boyband's “Gone” at his One Night Only show at Los Angeles' The Wiltern. Suddenly, the curtains dramatically opened to reveal Fatone, Bass, Chasez and Kirkpatrick. Everyone understandably freaked out as you can see in the X video down below:

The full moment leading up to @NSYNC coming out 😭😭😭 I’m not ok pic.twitter.com/YTQyG7mlJ1 March 14, 2024

I can imagine everyone in the crowd losing their voices from all that cheering seeing *NSYNC back on stage again.

Audiences had the pleasure of hearing a number of their hit singles like “Would You Be My Girlfriend,” “Bye Bye Bye,” and, of course, the meme-worthy track “It’s Gonna Be Me" (or May) . So, you can understand why fans must have had the tears of joy described in this X GIF right here:

WE ARE NSYNC pic.twitter.com/Mgnvl3ONgb March 14, 2024

Even though members of *NSYNC have had solo projects throughout the years, it still brings back good vibes when they all come together. Even just seeing them stand side-by-side when they re-reunited for the Trolls Band Together premiere does something wonderful to you, taking you to “a better place.”

This X concert snippet describes how we’re all feeling being a witness to the pop band performing at the Wiltern:

You. Guys. I know it’s free agency but Justin Timberlake One Night Only at the Wiltern with a surprise ‘NSYNC reunion and I am dyyying pic.twitter.com/jRo0whaB5U March 14, 2024

The *NSYNC members truly were in sync singing “Bye Bye Bye” with their harmonies and movements flowing so well together. It’s almost like time never stopped since their last performance. Another X user , Variety’s senior music writer Steven J. Horowitz, was “crying” seeing *NSYNC performing this next memorable song we all know:

CINEMABLEND NEWSLETTER

Your Daily Blend of Entertainment News

NSYNC reuniting in my lifetime I’m crying pic.twitter.com/h7r4e42uDt March 14, 2024

Wow, the audience really did pronounce it as “It’s gonna be May.” That still gets me to this day as you just sing along to a song without caring if it’s “me” or “May.” According to E! News , the unconventional pronunciation wasn’t Justin Timberlake’s idea. It was written that way because the track’s songwriters spoke in Swedish dialects. Pronouncing “me” as “May” was still a catch-all with the song inspiring a viral TikTok dance challenge.

Along with fans screaming "it's gonna be May," this next social media user expressed how “grateful” she was to see her “first loves,” and I have to agree:

I cannot put into words what tonight meant to me. As a fan of almost 3 decades…. This moment was everything I am so grateful I was in the building for this. The first loves of my life! @NSYNC pic.twitter.com/bfHfnjGGn6 March 14, 2024

If you couldn’t recognize what song *NSYNC was singing in that video, there’s a reason for that. That was their new single “Paradise” which drops on March 15th! As member Lance Bass opened up about a possible future for the reunited boyband, he wasn’t kidding around about getting back to work, as “Paradise” will be part of Justin Timberlake’s upcoming album Everything I Thought I Was.

Fans were lucky to be able to hear this before the single dropped. It sounds like it follows a similar tune to previous love ballads they’ve done like “This I Promise You.” Get ready to hear this song play at upcoming weddings.

Overall, this hilarious GIF conveys how we all feel seeing a bunch of videos of this new song and other moments from the legendary concert reunion:

Sipping coffee watching 100 videos of @NSYNC back on stage together last night I literally can’t feel my toes 😆 pic.twitter.com/BwtFpu52Y6 March 14, 2024

That’s the reality of today’s tech-centric world, right? With concertgoers so quick to take out their phones and publish their videos on social media, you don’t even have to feel so terrible about missing out on anything live. You’ll get many different angles of the same concert whether the lucky fan was sitting up front or in the very back. It makes me feel like I was there, that’s for sure.

One X post spoke the truth of what we’re all thinking watching an *NSYNC concert that occurred, posting:

I… saw NSync? In person? In the year 2024? pic.twitter.com/n6G7mPEHDx March 14, 2024

Yes, fans can all say they had the chance to see *NSYNC in concert this year. And after seeing millennials freaking out on TikTok when the band announced their first single in 20 years for the third Trolls movie, it's not surprising that they had such an extreme reaction to this concert.

Honestly, there's nothing like seeing your favorite band live in front of your eyes. One final tweet made a couple of observations that’ll surely stay with us:

1. Justin looks so damn happy.2. Can we just live in the moment of *NSYNC hugging each other. pic.twitter.com/oxh5mjT3TQ March 14, 2024

It was a real treat for fans to have Justin Timberlake bring out his musical bros to take us back to the good times. Hopefully, a new album and reunion tour are in their foreseeable future as *NSYNC looked so happy sharing the stage again.

You can hear the band’s single “Better Place” in Trolls Band Together, which will be available with a Peacock subscription on March 15.

Are the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC Planning a Stadium Tour Together? Lance Bass Says…

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC performing together? Well, that would be larger than life!

If you're a fan of '90s music, chances are you grew up begging boy bands to quit playing games with your heart, while also never wanting to say "Bye, Bye, Bye" to your favorites.

So, naturally, as *NSYNC's Lance Bass goes back in time to interview his musical peers in the new iHeartRadio podcast Frosted Tips , a common question has come up: Would his band team up with BSB for a concert tour?

"It's fun to think about," Lance told E! News in an exclusive interview. "I would say to fans don't give too much hope into it. It would take a lot to convince some of the guys to do something like that."

Perhaps needing the largest push is Justin Timberlake , who left the band for a solo career in 2002. Noting that "a lot of the guys are very purist and think *NSYNC is only these five guys," Lance said that without Justin, "it just doesn't seem right. A lot of convincing needs to happen in order for that to work. But I mean, never say never. Who knows."

Musicians Performing Live on Stage

For now, Lance said "there are no talks" happening. Instead, he chooses to focus on all of the fond memories of singing alongside Justin, JC Chasez , Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick at major events like the 2002 Grammys and the 2001 Super Bowl halftime show .

"Performing live with those guys is the best thing ever," he said. "I love being on that stage. I've always hated being a solo guy."

So, perhaps it's only fitting that Lance asked his husband Michael Turchin to join him on the Frosted Tips podcast. In addition to interviewing the biggest boy band members, the duo will help listeners navigate the ups and downs of parenting, marriage and everything in between.

"I think it's boring just doing something by yourself," Lance said. "I could never be a solo artist. Joining those four guys on the stage is just my favorite thing in the world. I love that and being able to see the fans and the reaction, it's something you can't describe."

More than 20 years after *NSYNC released their fourth and final studio album, Lance, 43, is thrilled to learn a younger generation is discovering the band's hits through platforms like TikTok . And there's an unexpected benefit to the group having ended things on a high note.

"When people think *NSYNC, they still think of me as like a 22-year-old kid," he joked. "I think we'll forever be young."

Justin Timberlake Performs Mashup of 'Selfish' and 'No Angels' at 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards

The 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards are airing live on April 1 from the Dolby Theatre at 8 p.m. ET on Fox

On Monday night, the pop star, 43, opened the awards show with a mashup performance of "Selfish" and "No Angels" from his latest album, Everything I Thought It Was .

Sporting a sleek black suit, a pearl necklace and sneakers, Timberlake began his performance with an acoustic rendition of "Selfish," surrounded by a desert-esque set complete with cactuses and a gas station.

Timberlake released Everything I Thought It Was on March 15. He revealed the tracklist, which features 18 songs, on a massive billboard in Los Angeles and the second-to-last track, called "Paradise," features his *NSYNC bandmates.

In an interview with  Zane Lowe  on Apple Music 1 in January, the pop singer said his new album offered a  "real" perspective on his life .

"I was able, on some of the songs, to look back at the past and have a real, not a refracted perspective of what it was because they always say ... you always hear that thing about, well, there's never any truth, there's just everybody's perspective of what happened. But to really look at it and be able to metabolize and verbalize my perspective on it, I don't think I've ever really done that before," explained Timberlake.

To mark the album's release, the "Cry Me a River" artist shared behind-the-scenes photos from his cover art photoshoot on  Instagram .
