If you are an art lover driving along the ECR, then the Cholamandal Artists’ Village is one stop you should definitely make. One of the most important art destinations in the city, it is impossible to talk about the artistic heritage and culture of Chennai without mentioning Cholamandal, the largest artists’ commune in the country. The sprawling campus was founded in 1966 and was the centre of the Madras Art Movement that lasted from the 50s to the 80s. The Village is also home to a gallery that houses some of the important artworks to have come out of Chennai’s art scene.

August 4, 2022, 8 best places to visit in ecr: the ultimate guide.

A fun weekend road trip!

8 Best Places to Visit in ECR: The Ultimate Guide!

(function ($) { var bsaProContainer = $('.bsaProContainer-9'); var number_show_ads = "0"; var number_hide_ads = "0"; if ( number_show_ads > 0 ) { setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeIn(); }, number_show_ads * 1000); } if ( number_hide_ads > 0 ) { setTimeout(function () { bsaProContainer.fadeOut(); }, number_hide_ads * 1000); } })(jQuery); 7) Covelong Beach:

How is it fair to go on a trip along the beach’s coast and not visit the beach? Chennai is known for its beaches. But on ECR, we have the Covelong beach, which is originally called Kovalam beach. This beach is famous for Surfing, Parasailing, Boating and the Fishing. Visitors can also rent a motor boat to enjoy the magnificent beach.  It was initially established as a port by the Saadat Ali for Carnatic Nawabs which was later occupied by the French in 1746 and ruined by Britishers in 1752. It is a must visit to be captivated with its crystal clear blue water, peaceful ambiance and surreal beauty.

The surfing school called ‘Surf Turf’ provides surfing lessons and also act as a restaurant and hotel. The surf school offers everything from surf boards and basic surfing gear to rent/buy, along with qualified instructors to teach you how to surf.  They’ve got a whole bunch of sea sports. Try your hand at windsurfing, kayaking, catamaran rides, and even fishing, or hang out at their beautiful café, and they even have rooms that operate as a Bed & Breakfast.

Timings: Covelong Beach is open all throughout the day!

Address: Dharka Backside Beach New Point Ansari Nagar, Kovalam, Tamil Nadu 603112

Covelong Point Surf, Music And Yoga Festival | LBB, Bangalore

places to visit chennai ecr

Chennai is easily accessible from other parts of India and there are frequent buses, trains and flights to reach the place. So this is a desirable place of tourists for decades.

Very helpful post. Wish to visit Mahabalipuram in the year end of 2020, if Almighty blessed us all.

Although there are many routes to Pondicherry, ECR, NH32 and NH48, the route from Chennai to Pondicherry along the East Coast Road (ECR) is the most popular one and the shortest route, covering endless stretches of unspoilt virgin beaches and backwaters along the coast of the Bay of Bengal. To know what to do, what you can expect, and the places to visit on a road trip from Chennai to Pondicherry, keep reading.

The fort is surrounded by tall walls and red bricks. From the top of the fort, you can capture Instagram-worthy pictures of virgin beaches and backwaters.
