Tour Fondue Beach in Hyères - France

Information on the tour fondue beach in hyères (france), description and location of the tour fondue beach in hyères (83400).

Map of Tour Fondue Beach in Hyères

Our opinion on the Tour Fondue Beach

La Tour Fondue Beach in Hyères is located south of the peninsula of Giens . The ancient fort (La Tour Fondue) is classified as historical monument. The place is best known for the port of La Tour Fondue, which is the starting point for the islands of Porquerolles .

There are several small beaches right and left of the port (sand and gravel), but in high season, the permanent comings and goings of boats is not the most pleasant. This beach can only be used to sunbath; swimming is prohibited in the port of La Tour Fondue. The nearest beach is Pradeau Beach (5 minutes on foot from the right along the coastal path).

Note that parking is charged in high season and there are many shops.

Tour Fondue in Hyères and its beaches

The district of La Tour Fondue is not the wildest in the peninsula of Giens! There are many shops and accommodations. There are several small sandy beaches on the waterfront before getting to the tower.

A holiday near Porquerolles island,

Tour Fondue - Giens

You’re probably already familiar with Plage de la Tour Fondue beach and the Tour Fondue snorkelling trail and you know that the boat leaves from here to whisk you away to Porquerolles , the beautiful pearl of the Golden Islands located just a half-hour drive from your favourite campsite !

port tour fondue

So let’s talk about the Tour Fondue tower itself today.

Erected in the 17th century, this little fort is also referred to as “La Batterie du Pradeau”. It is a defensive structure, perched on the southern tip of Giens peninsula , which was used to locate Porquerolles port and protect the channel.

The building was restored in 1991 by its current owner, the Port-Cros National Park. Although it is closed to the public, you can still approach it to admire it and take pics to your heart’s content from the peninsula or beach. You can even swim round it with your mask and flippers!

Sunset is a not-to-be-missed moment here and a pure marvel of the French Riviera…

Fort of La Tour Fondue

Monument in hyères.

The Fondue Tower, also called "Battery Pradeau", is located at the southern end of the peninsula of Giens , in the town of Hyères , in the Var.

While King Henri IV's plan to develop a new city on this part of the coast to accommodate the inhabitants of Hyères, hard hit by the wars of religion, was abandoned after his death, it was Richelieu who in 1633 decided to build the fort to protect the anchorage of the ships and secure the traffic between the peninsula and the island of Porquerolles .

The work was completed in 1637.

The polygonal work was rebuilt in the nineteenth century and has a barracks and a store to house the powder. In 1881 he was still armed with two guns but the fort was decommissioned and abandoned some time later.

Now owned by the Port-Cros National Park, the battery, protected as historical monuments since 1989, was restored in 1991. However due to security issues, the building is not open to the public.

The site can, however, mark a walk on this section of the coast from which one enjoys a point of view unequaled on the sea and the island of Porquerolles.

Iowan beats wind, weather for Lake Erie walleye victory: NE Ohio fishing report

  • Published: Apr. 26, 2024, 5:00 a.m.

John Hoyer of Keosauqua, Iowa, continued his domination of the coun-try’s pro walleye tournaments in the National Walleye Tour season opener on Lake Erie on April 19, using cutting edge sonar techniques to stymie a field of 142 pro and co-angler teams.

PORT CLINTON, Ohio — A crowded field of 142 pro and co-angler teams raced all around Lake Erie in the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Walleye Tour (NWT) opener on April 18-19, but they couldn’t topple the clear favorite, John Hoyer of Keosauqua, Iowa.

Hoyer has been relying on superb sonar skills to find trophy walleye, and to cast to lures to feeding fish. His two-day limit of 10 walleye weighed a whopping 69.13 pounds, beating Hunter Nitti (64.10 pounds) of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Ryan Buddie (64.05 pounds) of Amherst.

The winner of the last three NWT championships, Hoyer added to his impressive winnings by taking home a prize package totaling $116,926 that included a new Ranger 620FS boat. Nitti took home $23,643, while Buddie won $20,645.

What had to be most frustrating for the the field was that despite rough waters, many anglers ran many miles from Port Clinton — including to the Detroit River and the Cleveland shoreline — in search of clean water and walleye eager to bite.

Hoyer did not.

“I found some fairly clean water around the cans, and focused on that,” said Hoyer. Facing gale force winds over two days of practice fishing, Hoyer said he was lucky to find fishable waters and walleye about 10 miles from the Portage River starting line, drifting along the marker buoys off Camp Perry.

Lots of other tournament anglers were trying to copy Hoyer’s Forward Facing Sonar technique that reveals walleye swimming ahead of his Ranger fishing boat, then cast to the biggest fish he can find he marks with his sonar fish-finding unit. His preferred lures included shallow-diving jerk baits and swim baits, a jig matched with a plastic fish body.

National walleye tournaments continue: Lake Erie’s record-setting walleye population makes it a favorite place to host big walleye tournaments, especially early-season events. It is the reason the Cabela’s National Team Championship will drop anchor on the Black River in Lorain on May 9-11. The daily takeoff will be at 6:45 a.m. and weigh-ins to be held at Black River Landing in Lorain starting art 3 p.m.

“We’re already seeing a lot of the tournament fishermen on site, and we expect a lot of trophy walleye coming to the scales,” said Craig Lewis at Erie Outfitters in Sheffield Lake.

Steelhead trout run winding down: Fishermen continue to prowl the Northeast Ohio rivers and streams for steelhead trout, but the run is almost over. Anglers are still catching some of the big trout in the rivers, but most are done spawning and slowly working their way back to Lake Erie to feed and recover from the rigors of the spawn.

A lot of smaller rainbow trout have been released in recent weeks in the East Branch of the Rocky River and Wallace Lake in Berea, as well as Shadow and Ledge lakes in the Cleveland Metroparks.

Be kind to the steelhead smolts: The Ohio Division of Wildlife’s Castalia State Fish Hatchery trucks have been pouring small steelhead trout “smolts” into the Northeastern Ohio steelhead streams, including Thursday into the lower Cuyahoga River for the very first time.

Anglers should carefully handle the yearling 6-to-9-inch fish, which are illegal to keep. If fishermen are hooking a lot of the small trout, change fishing locations rather than risk injuring the youngsters.

Smallmouth bass are invading: While steelhead trout are heading back to Lake Erie, smallmouth bass are heading up the rivers to spawn in very good numbers, although this week’s cold snap has slowed them down a bit. A lot of trophy bass have been checked by Cleveland Metroparks fisheries workers.

Guide Jeff Liskay of Avon Lake recommends casting small, square-billed crank baits for smallmouth bass, as well as Ned Rigs and small jigs and twister tails.

Bay’s Edge Open returns to traditional lures: While most tournament walleye anglers are trolling these days to cover lots of Lake Erie waters and hook trophy fish, the Lake Erie Walleye Trail’s Bay’s Edge Open in Port Clinton on Sunday had plenty of appeal for old-timers. The tournament limited anglers to traditional drift-and-cast fishing, or jigging lures.

Capt. Joe Gibson’s Team NIM No. 2 won the event and $4,700 with a limit of five walleye weighing 29.83 pounds. Team C’est La Fish was second (29.98 pound, $1,700) was second, and Team NIM was third (28.14 pounds, $1,000) was third,

Charlie Woods’ road to Pinehurst begins Thursday.

Woods, the son of 82-time TOUR winner Tiger Woods, will compete in an 18-hole U.S. Open local qualifier Thursday at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The younger Woods is slated to tee off at 8:18 a.m. ET Thursday.

The road to the U.S. Open features 109 local qualifying sites across April and May, leading to 13 Final Qualifying sites in late May and early June. Final Qualifying is known as Golf's Longest Day, requiring competitors to navigate 36 holes to earn a tee time at the season’s third major championship.

To be eligible for qualifying, a player must have a Handicap Index not exceeding 0.4 or be a professional.

The elder Woods is a three-time U.S. Open champion, but he has yet to win at Pinehurst No. 2. Tiger Woods finished T3 at Pinehurst in 1999, two strokes back of winner Payne Stewart, and he placed solo second at the venerable venue in 2005, two back of Michael Campbell. He didn’t compete at Pinehurst in 2014.

Earlier this spring, Charlie Woods competed in a pre-qualifier for the TOUR’s Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, his first foray at attempting to qualify for a TOUR-sanctioned event. The younger Woods shot 86 that day but will look to apply learnings in Thursday’s U.S. Open local qualifier.

Tiger and Charlie Woods have paired together in the last four PNC Championships, the two-player team event contested each December that utilizes a scramble format. Team Woods finished runner-up in 2021 but has yet to win the event.

Other notables in the field at Woods' site include Cameron Kuchar (son of Matt), Sunny Kim, Garrett Willis, Reed Greyserman (brother of Max), Austin Lemieux (son of Mario) and Michael Buttacavoli.

Hoyer Tours Francis Scott Key Bridge Wreckage and Unified Command

BALTIMORE, MD — Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) and Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02) met with emergency personnel at the Unified Command Center tasked with reopening the Port of Baltimore after a ship collision led to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26. Leaders from the United States Coast Guard, the Maryland Department of Transportation, and other members of the interagency working group gave the Congressmen a briefing on their progress to remove the wreckage, including the successful reopening of the Limited Access Channel just the day prior – a week ahead of schedule. Congressmen Hoyer and Ruppersberger also received an update from the Unified Command Center on the continued efforts to recover the bodies of those lost in the collapse. The Congressmen joined personnel for a boat tour of salvage and recovery operations in the harbor.

Congressman Hoyer at Francis Scott Bridge

Ever since the collapse, Congressman Hoyer has worked with Maryland's Congressional Delegation and the Moore-Miller Administration to support the families of those who lost their lives and secure funding for the emergency mission to clear the Port of Baltimore and rebuild the bridge as safely and expeditiously as possible. He has also stood with the Biden-Harris Administration in its commitment to use federal funds to cover the whole cost of the project. Earlier in April, Hoyer joined the Maryland Delegation to introduce the Baltimore BRIDGE Relief Act – bipartisan, bicameral legislation that would authorize a 100 percent federal cost share for the replacement effort.   “Reopening this port and rebuilding this bridge as quickly as possible is in the interest of every American,”  Congressman Hoyer said. “I praise the Unified Command for its continued dedication during this difficult hour. As I saw during my visit to the wreckage, emergency personnel are working around the clock to get the Port of Baltimore back up and running. It's crucial that the federal government provide them with vital resources for this project immediately. This is not an act of charity; it’s an investment in the American economy.”

Congressman Hoyer at the Francis Scott Key Bridge

“Rebuilding the Key Bridge - quickly, safely and stronger - is essential to restoring jobs, protecting the supply chain and keeping inflation down. It’s also necessary to ensure no other families will ever have to endure the heartache of those of the six workers who died performing a community service and who deserve our respect and gratitude,”  said Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger.  “I am incredibly impressed with Unified Command’s efforts – they are working around the clock on an impossibly complex mission in often dangerous conditions and are, at the moment, ahead of schedule. Team Maryland stands ready to assist them any way we can.”

Howard Jones

A new wave one-stop shop will tour North America this summer when Howard Jones and ABC will be hitting stages across North America with special guest Haircut 100. The full itinerary appears below.

“I’m very excited to be hitting the road with my friends ABC and Haircut 100,” Jones enthused. “Our audiences can look forward to some seriously top tunes night after night!  Bring your celebratory selves to the party.”

Popular on Variety

Of course, the evening will play out like an evening filled with hits from the early days of MTV, when the so-called “Second British Invasion” dominated the channel. Jones’ hits “New Song” and “What Is Love,” and “Things Can Only Get Better” probably segued into or out of ABC’s “Look of Love,” “Poison Arrow” and “Be Near Me” and Haircut 100’s “Love Plus One” and “Fantastic Day.”

All three acts have gone on to other successes, but this tour brings together the songs and sounds that first brought them to fame.
