The staff was great and tried to "make a silk purse out of a sows ear" and the music was well done. Food and drinks below average. Bus driver Carol Ann was a great asset but the air conditioning couldn't keep up. It wasn't busy so if they had been organized there would have been no reason to wait in the heat once we got there. The vessel was scary dismal, old and worn. The photograph must have been when it was first christened. It is so much worse in reality than the photo. The walk way on either side is incredibly narrow and confining. I can't imagine when the vessel is at full capacity. The paint is crusty and the carpet below smelled dirty and was lifting. and rolled. The "fine dining" was on cheap plastic lawn chairs. Severely in need of a new vessel!!! Kudos to the staff for having to work on there. Do not go on this dinner cruise if you are celebrating an important milestone, want a romantic cruise or want to impress someone. And,,,you won't now it 'til you get there!

This was the second time we went this dinner cruise and it was not disappointing. The view and sunset were perfect. The prime rib I had was tender and the vegetables were cooked just right. Seating could be more comfortable. Seating tight and made out of cheap plastic. The music live and very good. Expect to tip 20.00

The food on this cruise was above average. I took a chance and ordered prime rib and it was excellent. The problem with this cruise is that if it's a warm evening, it can be quite uncomfortable. Dinner is served on the top deck, and there is no shade. Early on we were all quite uncomfortable. If you go, take a big hat. Or better yet, take the Pride of Maui out of Maalea. It's our favorite.

I arrived with our party of four to check in for the dinner cruise, but our reservation was not in the system. I had booked on line and had brought my confirmation with me. Their computer had me booked for a completely different night. Luckily for us there were tables available and because someone didn't show up, we were moved to an table near the rail. During the cruise we were fortunate to have several whales perform for us with tale slaps and breaches. This meant our dinner was getting cold, but was well worth the interruptions. Our dinner was delicious, prepared to perfection and the papaya seed dressing on the salad was to die for. The singer on board was phenomenal and if you closed your eyes you would swear you were listening to several different well known artists. As sailboats crossed our path in front of the sun, it made for a perfect sunset foreground. I have one complaint and that was receiving a bill informing us how much to give for a tip. I have no issues paying a tip, but I do have a problem being told how much to give ($40 for the table). In Canada we give tips based on the level of service and it is optional to give a tip based on the type of service. Generally speaking, when Canadians or people in general are constantly reminded that the person works for tips or are presented with invoices laying out how much to pay for a tip, they will usually give nothing or very little. When a person working in the service industry just does their job to the best of their ability or make it extra special by putting a little effort into it, they will usually get a substantial tip regardless. If you have to constantly remind people that you work for tips, perhaps you are in the wrong job.

We sent our 90 year old grandparents on this dinner cruise on the last night of their visit and they loved it so much! they said it was so beautiful. They had an amazing time. Traveling with a group of 8 celebrating two 65th birthdays. We took the Maui Princess Sunset dinner cruise for out last night in Maui. Told the trip was scheduled 5:30 to 8:30 by both places we sourced tickets. We were surprised when we arrived back... in the dock at 7:40. Meal service started as soon as we left the dock and when we finished dessert we were already on our way back. Boat comfortable and captain provided nice voyage. Saw lots of whales. Food and service good as well. You receive a welcoming drink and 2 drink tickets included in the price of the cruise. Just after dinner and around 7 we were told last call for the bar some of our party had the tickets left so went and used them at the bar. They were enjoying their drinks when just before 7:30 a server told them she had to take all beverages remaining the boat was docking and in accordance to coast guard regulations they had to be taken away. We all agreed communication could have been better by the bar staff if when they announced last call they should also have told everyone the drinks would need to be consumed before we got back to port.. The other problem was all of us thought we had lots of time as there was still an hour left in the cruise. People selling this excursion should inform their customers this cruise is 2 hrs not 3. Initially quite breezy but Captain managed to sail us past mountains which made the ride more enjoyable (so bring a jacket as recommended). Surprisingly, the meal was warm with having to come from below, and all 6 people in party enjoyed their meals. The staff... were attentive the views were spectacular of the coast line from up top. You can dine below but the show is best from above. We requested rail seating and had starboard side closer to front. Ideal seating as sunsets when leaving port on right and whale show is easily seen from your perfect seat, while still appreciating mountain view on left. There is a solo guitarist performing (Greg diPiazza) and his version of cover songs really made the boat ride enjoyable, I would say the experience was improved with him playing. Look in local magazines as there are sales on the tickets and purchases over phone easily. We went to Lahaina early in day and changed in dinner clothes( slacks and shirts nothing really dressy) afterwards. Have a drink at Pioneer grill (historic place) to use facilities for freshen up. The restrooms on boat are a bit dated ( that's putting it mildly) but overall with the crew, entertainment and meals would do again if in the area. Wear sensible shoes, bring hair tie for the breeze, camera and sunglasses. More

Our dinner cruise was on the top deck only of the ship, probably due to covid distancing. This made the bright sun a challenge. At times the water was choppy. Dinner was Mahi Mahi, chicken, or prime rib. Our table four had all of them.... Prime rib was offered cooked medium rare. We both preferred medium and was accommodated. All meals were typical of that from warming trays. Prime rib was tinder. But, less flavorful (spicy) than most. Good music. But, no dancing. Staff was attentive and fun. Ticket price does not include gratuity. Tip is requested at end of cruise. Overall, enjoyable cruise. More

The boat is very old and you smell fumes the entire time. The drinks are watered down and low quality liquor. The food was ok…tiny salad with rolls when you are seated at a non private table. Prime rib and fish was ok with potato... and carrots…..Thank God we enjoyed the company of the people that they sat us with because it was downhill after dinner. No dance floor and music is one singer who plays one instrument. Tiny cheesecake for dessert. The worst part were the disgusting bathrooms on the lower deck. Smelled terrible and very dirty. At the end of the meal they give you a postcard and a note saying gratuity is not included and ask for another $40 for tip…what a joke…..(service was not that great server kept giving people the wrong food)….Not at all worth it for the money…👎 More

Apparently Trip advisor doesn’t allow for bad reviews so I won’t be surprised if this doesn’t show up. The boat was beat up, dirty and the bathrooms smelled like port-a-Johns that have been in the sun for days. The ‘dinner’ was reminiscent of western PA... fire hall high school graduation food….. but there were no cabbage rolls, fried chicken or rigatoni. Just reheated frozen fish and “prime rib” that was just awful. The ‘entertainment’ was bad enough to make you want to tie yourself up in a burlap sac and jump overboard. The waitstaff and bartender did a FANTASTIC JOB considering they had almost nothing to work with. I give 1 star because Trip Advisor doesn’t allow me to give 5 Black Holes ( this dinner cruise, literally sucks the light from the universe. ) There is a reason you can book them same day, and the other cruises are booked 3-4 months in advance. We just returned from a lovely evening out to celebrate Valentine’s Day! We had some whale sightings and the captain did her best to get us a great view. The entertainment with Jolette was great and enjoyed by our group of 6. The waiters and... waitress did a great job. Two of our group had the prime rib which was juicy, hot and fabulous. The rest of us had the mahi-mahi and although it tasted wonderful, it was not hot. Overall it was a lovely evening. More

I don’t know why I expected something classy and nice from this type of experience. Bland banquet food, below average karaoke songs and booze cruise would be the more accurate way to describe this experience. We don’t drink so maybe it’s totally enjoyable with alcohol.... I couldn’t say. For us, the music was at best tolerable for some songs and the food was edible but not delicious. The views were totally great and I love boat rides. We would have done these things in a different format had I better researched the experience and quality of the evening’s food and entertainment. Totally mediocre. I rated this as poor to avoid giving the impression we were satisfied and would ever go again or recommend it to anyone. Nice sunset pics though! More

We made this reservation for a romantic getaway to have together. However, they don’t tell you until after you have revolved your whole day around this event and check in that you will be sharing your romantic evening with another couple. And that the dancing... advertised a lots you about two feet of dancing room because they are trying to board so many people onto this boat to make up for lost money during covid times. Then they serve you for one out of your two alloyed alcoholic drinks as Mai tais with dark rum. What if I don’t like dark rum? Drink waisted. The food was excellent. But at the end of the night, I feel cheated out of my romantic getaway and my money. So if you want a good meal with total strangers and no dancing, this may be the dinner cruise for you. If not, then I would not recommend. More

So at the last second our Maui Calypso dinner cruise was canceled by them 24 hrs before it was supposed to happen. I thought we were screwed out of our last activity before we headed home, but fortunately I found some availability on Maui Princess... Sunset Dinner cruise. A million thank-you's to them for letting us keep our original plans of a dinner cruise on the last night!!! The food was good and there was plenty to eat. They had a little trouble keeping up with refilling the water but I could tell they were understaffed. Maui is suffering from the same worker shortage that the rest of the country is in the food industry so if you are traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic you will need to be a little patient. There was a full bar on board and the bartender was quick and very accommodating. I thought the live entertainment was a nice touch and she did get the crowd up and dancing toward the end of the cruise. Overall it was a great dinner cruise and we will be sure to be back that next time we are in Maui. More

We were booked on this cruise by a travel agent. Would not have selected it myself but went with an open mind. You board the boat to tables laid out with salad, bread, and butter, in the Hawaii sun. It was hot outside, the salad... was warm, and had been sitting out an indeterminate amount of time. The fish and chicken were fine. Not particularly memorable. Two drinks are included in the price followed by a cash bar. The bartender, Courtney, was the best part of the experience. Dessert was served much later after the main course. The cheesecake was unremarkable. There is no dancing except for a token "couples dance" at the end. The music was one signer that we did not enjoy. The volume was loud and grating the entire time. The signer kept trying to instigate a party situation which is not what the boat is advertised as. There are true party boats if that's what you are looking for. We would not rebook and recommend you look for alternative companies. This company suffers from either packing too many guests on the service or not having enough staff- probably both. The staff worked constantly but could not keep up. More

We called and the business stated they follow COVID guidelines, and that everyone will be masked unless they are eating. A COMPLETE LIE! The captain greets you with no mask on. No one in the staff was wearing a mask AT ALL! Not even servers.... And probably only 1/5 of the customer wore a mask at some point. Parties are supposed to be seated 6 ft apart, but tables were right next to each other. Most of the parties were parties of 2, but they make you share a table with strangers across you, 1-2 feet away from you. 'Lucky' us, we found out the couple sitting across our table were not vaccinated. Outdoor gatherings are supposed to be limited to 25 people. The ship had 4 rows of about 10 tables each. Each table sitting 4 people and it was FULL (so about 160 people). The dinner was nothing out of the ordinary. Plus they lie to get customers . Very unprofessional. So I don't recommend. The state of Hawaii is so strict about their Covid guidelines, I don't understand how this business is allowed to run this way. More

I have been on this dinner cruise many times andit's always terrific. We had the prime rib and it, along with all of the other offerings was delicious and generous portions. The crew was attentive, the views of Maui from the ocean at sunset are... spectacular, and we especially enjoyed the live music performed by Craig. More

I want to start with the one highlight which was the service. They worked non stop and they were very friendly. Everything else about this experience however was, to put it simply, awful. The food was subpar at best, the drinks were just loaded with... alcohol, the entertainment felt like a cheap Vegas lounge, the fumes from the boat made my wife and I sick and the bathrooms were disgusting. There were no COVID guidelines followed, no server wore a mask and they made it impossible to be socially distanced. I am sure this cruise was good back in 1990, but it is extremely out of date and dirty. My wife and I booked because of our tour credit through Costco and I can honestly say I would have just thrown the money away had I known what a waste the experience would have been. I could have lived with the food being not so great, the entertainment not being my favorite and so many other things, but the boat not being clean and the lack of any social distancing when so many places are successfully following COVID guidelines is inexcusable. Please read the many negative reviews and make a good choice before booking this cruise. More

Let me start with the positive, the crew was great so was the singer on board. The food was good and everything was clean. The value you get for what pay is not enough in my opinion. When we booked the cruise, we were told... 3 drinks per adult. When we checked in, we were told that it’s only 2 drinks per adult, and when we boarded, we got one watered-down Mai Tai and one drink. Maybe the costs are going up because of COVID, but we paid a COVID surcharge when we booked. More

I never leave a negative review but I am making a exception here. The trip was not full but the staff decided to assign several tables to the middle seating with a reduced view. Presumably to save the staff s few steps. We did have... to go the bar ourselves since the staff was not willing to bring drinks from the bar even though it was a additional cost. We should have known the service would be poor when gratuities were required before boarding. Overall a pleasant evening but there are probably better options elsewhere. More

Departing from the downtown harbor of the historic whaling port of Lahaina. The Maui Princess Dinner Cruise is the largest and most stable vessel to make its home here in Maui's waters. This is a true dinner cruise … including full table service for drinks, salad course, entree, and dessert served at your table by attentive staff in classy waiter attire. Dinner is served on the open air upper deck with panoramic views of the West Maui Mountains and the islands of Lanai and Molokai. Dinner includes your choice of prime rib, macademia nut mahi mahi, roasted chicken or a vegetarian cous-cous pocket. Beverages include full bar service (beer, wine, Mai Tais and other cocktails) – a welcome Mai Tai and one alcoholic beverage of your choice is included, with additional alcoholic beverages available for purchase. After dinner, enjoy live music at your table and watch the stars appear in the Maui twilight.

Special Dates / Holiday Rates

The Maui Princess has a special menu and higher rate on certain Holiday dates. If a holiday rate is in effect, the higher price will be noted on the reservation form. At this time the only holiday date with a higher rate is Fourth of July in 2023.

Tables: Seating is at tables of four … larger parties will be seated at adjacent tables.

Dinner and drinks: Dinner includes a choice of prime rib, roasted chicken, macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi, or vegetarian patty with marinara sauce, garden salad, potatoes, carrots, dinner rolls, and cheesecake. One "Welcome Mai Tai" and one alcoholic beverage of your choice is included per person (additional drinks may be purchased for $4-6 each).

Restrictions: Guests must have a valid picture ID for alcoholic beverages, regardless of age

What to Wear: Casual / Evening resort attire. We also recommend a light jacket.

Reservations: Advanced reservations required and we recommend booking this a month or more before your arrival. Booking early is your best chance to get a table along the rail. This event is "RESERVE NOW PAY LATER"; we need a credit card on file to finalize your reservation but we do not charge you for this reservation until a few days before the beginning of your vacation!

Minimum Notice for Cancellations / Changes: At least 48 hours before the start of the event. All tours go out rain or shine.

Covid Surcharge: Maui Princess currently charges a $20 per person surcharge for all seats due to reduced capacity due to social distancing.

Parties of 8 or More: Maui Princess charges a $15 per person service charge for parties of 8 or more. This fee is paid upon check in just before your cruise.

Watching a sunset from the deck of a boat is a completely different experience than watching from the beach. Sunsets are three dimensional … and there is no better way to realize the 360 degree view than to get out on the water. Not only does the sky turn different shades of pink and orange, the mountains are painted with this colorful brush as well. Get out on the water and REALLY enjoy a sunset!

Occasionally I've heard clients say "We could have gotten a nicer meal for the same money in a restaurant." I think that's stating the obvious … you aren't just paying for a meal on a dinner cruise … you are paying to go out on a boat, and as a boat owner I can tell you that they are EXPENSIVE to operate and maintain. If you don't get your culinary expectations too unrealistically high you'll have a great time.

The most popular and longest-running sunset cruise is the Maui Princess dinner cruise. My wife and I recently took two friends of ours out on this vessel … it had been a while since we had evaluated this cruise. We purposely ordered three different entrees and are pleased to report that all around the food was a winner! The prime rib is sliced on board, and the cut was generous and of high quality. The mahi mahi and chicken entrees were equally tasty and highly recommended. We didn't try the vegetarian entree, but the fact that they HAVE a vegetarian entree is a good sign! It is obvious that this tour operator is really trying hard to provide a quality product. Also a nice new feature … the Maui Princess is able to board passengers at the main loading dock of Lahaina Harbor; gone are the days when you had to ride a shuttle boat out to board offshore! Tables on this boat seat four; during busy summer season there is a good chance that if there are just two of you, it is possible you'll share a table with another couple. Might be a good chance to make new friends. It's also nice to have someone to whom you can hand your camera to for a photo. This doesn't apply right now during Covid though; they are not misxing parties together at a table, which does reduce their capacity significantly. To compensate for that they are currently charging a $20 per person Covid surcharge until they are able to operate again at full capacity. Who knows when THAT will be right???

If you are coming to Hawaii from December through April months, there is the added bonus of humpback whale sightings on sunset cruises. All boats will be going out of their way to find whales for you during these months.

Magical Makeovers at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique/Pirate’s League

The  Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique  offers an opportunity for your children to transform into their favorite characters, whether that’s a prince, princess or pirate. Since you likely chose a Disney cruise for the unique Disney experience or because you or your children are fans of a character or two, it makes sense to take part in this one-of-a-kind makeover option.

Princess makeovers range from $100 to $450, with the basic “Deluxe Carriage Package” including hairstyling, shimmering makeup and face gem, princess sash and cinch sack, nail polish, and t-shirt. Pricier packages also include princess gowns, accessories, tiaras, and more. To give your princess a special experience at a lower cost, you could pack a princess dress rather than paying for the more expensive package that includes one.

For those who would like to become knights or captains, you can select a package that includes a costume, sack or backpack, hairstyling and gel, confetti, and either a sword and shield or a captain’s hat and an autograph book. These packages cost $100 for the knight and $120 for the captain. Pirate makeovers are available on special Pirate Party nights.

Beer Mug or Drink of the Day Savings Package

Although Disney Cruise Line doesn’t offer an all-inclusive alcohol drink package, they do have alternatives that could be a good value if you plan to drink on your cruise. You can purchase a $17 souvenir glass beer mug that allows you to buy 21 oz of draught beer or hard cider for the price of a 16 oz beer or hard cider. This will pay for itself if you have more than around a half-dozen drinks, and you get a nifty keepsake that you can use on future cruises.

There is also an option to purchase a Drink of the Day cocktail souvenir cup that you may refill at a discounted price (and drinks of the day are already discounted). You can use these cups for drink discounts at Disney Castaway Cay as well, so don’t forget to pack your cup when you go ashore. Speaking of going ashore…

Port Adventures

A big part of cruising is going ashore during the port stops along the way. You may want to upgrade your trip by opting for  port adventure packages . These packages can include equipment rentals like bicycles, snorkels, and water tubes. They may also include cultural experiences, sightseeing, or even nature experiences like swimming with dolphins.

Booking your port adventures through Disney also offers the convenience of pre-set pricing, saving you the hassle of haggling or currency exchange. Not all the experiences are super expensive, and even splurging on a mid-range adventure will be a memorable upgrade to your cruise that reduces stress during port days.

Adult-Exclusive Dining

Every Disney Cruise ship offers dining options for adults only, so you can have a peaceful date night with your spouse while sailing. These dining options are only available for people 18 and older. The restaurant options include (depending on your ship) Palo, Palo Steakhouse, Remy, and Enchante.

After recent price increases in 2023, brunch and dinner at Palo and Palo Steakhouse will cost $50 per person for a fixed menu. Base dinner prices at Remy and Enchante are $135 per person. A la carte options are available for an 18% charge on top of the price of each item. While these meals are fairly pricey, especially considering other meals in the Dining Room are included in your ticket cost, you can’t put a dollar amount on an amazing adult-only date night.

Skip This Upgrade: Royal Court Royal Tea

One upgrade option you may have heard about is the Royal Court Royal Tea. While it’s a charming idea, especially for fans of Disney princesses, the cost is steep at $220 per child and $69 per adult.

While the description makes the Royal Tea sound charming, attendees have found it an expensive disappointment. Although it’s a popular add-on, popularity isn’t always synonymous with value. Besides, there is a completely free Princess Gathering where you can meet and greet your favorite Disney Princesses.
