Cannabus Express Tours
“Educational, Exclusive and Entertaining”
“from root to toot, seed to sale, soil to oil”.
By Esther Sanchez
Cannabus Express Tours was founded in 2018 by Lynne Daniels and her partner/husband Rob Daniels and has been growing in its scope of opportunities ever since. Owners of DuPont Estate Resort in La Quinta, Lynne also has a background in the entertainment field doing marketing and promotions. It goes without saying that, if just a few years back were to tell the Daniels’ that they would somehow become a part of the ever booming and evolving cannabis industry they would never have believed you but that all changed in 2017.
Daniels continues: “Later on, my mother who at the time was in her late 80s was having hip problems but, due to the fact that she had congestive heart failure was not able to get corrective surgery because she could not be put under anesthesia. And we all know that painkillers have side-effects so I started having her apply Wild Bill’s Miracle Balm 3 times per day and the effects were pretty miraculous.”
Daniels continues: “All this was happening around the time that I was turning 60 and really sort of wanted to reinvent myself after so many years working in marketing and PR, I felt like I really had something to offer and asked myself, “How can I get involved?”
At that point, one of the Daniels’ employees through their resort had the idea of them using their beautiful, Mercedes Sprinter limo/van for cannabis tours and realizing that the Coachella Valley is becoming the, “Silicon Valley of the cannabis industry,” Lynne was inspired and started to focus her energy on reaching out and making contacts with as many local businesses as possible to learn about and cover as many aspects of the cannabis field as possible.
Interestingly enough, very few of the tour attendees were smokers of the plant itself. Many of them were more interested in edibles or even forms of extraction to make balms and tinctures. The great part about the evolution of this industry over the past years since legalization in California is that there seems to be something for everyone these days and when you have the opportunity to get educated on this miraculous plant and the vast varieties of ways that have been developed to use it there really does seem to be something for everyone.
From 420 Bank & Lounge we boarded the van that was cool, comfy and stocked with snacks and water bottles, and headed to our first destination in Desert Hot Springs which was the impressively gigantic growing facility for Canndescent which is considered a premium cannabis cultivator. Keep in mind that, even if you know where these facilities are, one cannot simply call or show up asking for a tour. These are highly secure facilities and the exclusivity of these tours is apparent. At Canndescent we were met by a site manager who took us around to see the process of growth and cultivation from start to finish.
From the Canndescent facility we went to We Care, which is a facility in Cathedral City that works on the extra scientific aspect of the tour. At We Care they do things like test the strength and potency of strains, extract essential ingredients of the plants for balms and tinctures, manufacture infused joints and more. This part of the tour was especially intriguing because one could never imagine the type of epic looking equipment that is required for what it is that they do. Any fan of breaking bad can imagine the type of laboratory I’m trying to describe.
The neat thing about Cannabus Express Tours is that between the fact that there are so many businesses involving cannabis throughout the Coachella Valley and the extensive connections that Lynne Daniels has made to make these tours possible, you can go on a Cannabus tour multiple times and never hit the same location twice. Whether you consider yourself an expert, a novice or are just curious…I highly recommend this gem of a tour.

Palm Springs’ weed lounge game is hot right now — especially compared to L.A.

Angelenos looking for a variety of communal cannabis experiences — legal ones, anyway — might want to consider road-tripping to Palm Springs for a weed weekend. That’s because while Los Angeles hasn’t issued a single consumption lounge license (the only two in the area are in West Hollywood), Palm Springs has issued 10, according to the most recent list provided by the desert city.
In early January, armed with that list, I dashed out to the desert and checked out as many as I could (which turned out to be seven — two had yet to open and one was temporarily shuttered). Although there was a lot of overstuffed-sofa, college-dorm-room sameness to many of the places, they all had one thing going for them: They provided safe, legal and wholly entertaining spaces to buy and consume cannabis products. The ones on this curated list all brought a little something extra to the table that made them stand out. Four of them are right in the heart of downtown Palm Springs; one is a full-blown concert venue; and at least two inhabit former bank buildings (ironic because cannabis’ illegal status at the federal level means the businesses are foreclosed from many traditional banking services).

One of those former banks — now the Vault Dispensary Lounge — is a few miles down the road in Cathedral City, but it’s included here for two reasons. First, it was designed with the older — as in 35- to 75-year-old — crowd in mind. (“The kind of place my mom, my aunt and my mom’s friend’s would feel comfortable,” buyer and manager Matthew Sigurdson told me when I visited.) Second, because everything about it — from the welcoming bank-lobby vibe to the Wednesday night baked bingo games and carnival-worthy popcorn machine — hinted at the kind of shared space that might well be in store for the cannabis community once California’s consumption lounges fully catch their stride.

In 2016, California voters approved Prop. 64, also known as the Adult Use of Marijuana Act , which legalized recreational cannabis use statewide on January 1, 2018. Days after, long lines formed at dispensaries, which left most to consume cannabis products at home or stealthily (and illegally) in public. Though California law made it possible to smoke a freshly purchased pre-roll or drink a cannabis-infused beverage, it became tricky to figure out where to consume these products until 2019.
Before Prop 64 became law, West Hollywood officials took on a cannabis-friendly approach, potentially as the most welcoming municipality in the state. The city quickly understood that people needed a space to fully enjoy the new law, and just five years later, in 2024, West Hollywood is now home to four lounges and the most cannabis dispensaries per square mile in the world. The city’s history with cannabis dates back 40 years . Once all of them are open, there will be a total of 16 lounges available for adults who want to consume cannabis in a proper sit-down atmosphere. In 2019, the Cannabis Cafe (formerly Lowell Farms: A Cannabis Cafe) became the first venue where patrons could legally consume cannabis while snacking on food like nachos and burgers.
The opening pace of cannabis lounges slowed down considerably during the COVID-19 pandemic. While WeHo continues to expand, the City of Los Angeles has stayed out of the cannabis lounge game, though underground or private events are abundant throughout Southern California. That leaves West Hollywood and the Palm Springs area as the only SoCal cities for on-site imbibing. Here are cannabis lounges (it’s time to retire the unfortunate label “consumption lounge”) in Southern California where a meal or non-alcoholic drink can accompany a smoke. (Note: many of these establishments accept cash only.)
PleasureMed
In October 2023, Pleasure Chest owner Brian Robinson opened PleasureMed directly across the parking lot from his decades-old adult boutique. PleasureMed includes two restaurants called Irie and Hind. Irie is a cannabis lounge and restaurant on the second floor complete with cannabis sommeliers they called flight attendants. On the ground floor, Hind does not allow cannabis consumption, but serves cocktails and the same food. Both menus were developed by former Hatchet Hall chef Wes Whitsell who put together elegant options like black-eyed pea hummus, lamb shakshuka, and jerk fried quail.
By law , cannabis lounges cannot serve alcohol on the premises, which is why Hind operates in a separate building on the PleasureMed campus. For added convenience, a stunning Havana-styled dispensary is located on the ground floor. One cannot smell a whiff of smoke as Irie employs a high-powered filtration system with filters to limit smoke inhalation, a state-mandated requirement for any cannabis lounge in California. No outside cannabis is allowed.
Woody Harrelson opened the Woods on Santa Monica Boulevard near Sweetzer in October 2022. The opulent 5,000-square-foot cannabis lounge is a tropical oasis with cabanas, plush sofas and chairs, tropical birds, koi ponds, a non-alcoholic beverage bar, and a lush garden with mature trees. The space formerly served as famed restaurant designer Thomas Schoos’s professional studio. Harrelson’s partners are TV host Bill Maher, Schoos, Schoos Design CEO Michael Berman, and Erba dispensary founders Erba Jay Handal and Devon Wheeler.
At the Woods, smoking is allowed in the outdoor bar or outdoor lounge where seating is first-come, first-served. Cannabis-infused drinks are available along with non-dosed coffee, tea, soda, and water. No food is available here, but people can bring their own. If needed, staff can provide bongs, papers, grinders, tips, lighters, and other cannabis accessories. Private smoking cabanas with air conditioning and TVs are also available for an hourly rate. No outside cannabis is allowed, so all cannabis must be purchased at the Woods.
Artist Tree — the Studio Cannabis Lounge
The Artist Tree secured every license possible from West Hollywood officials before opening in April 2022. That includes on-site consumption, medical- and adult-use retail, and even delivery. The lounge is stationed on the second and third floors overlooking Santa Monica Boulevard with indoor and outdoor table service. The dispensary is directly downstairs with a massive amount of cannabis products available for purchase and consumption during a visit. Food isn’t prepared on-site but Artist Tree partners with Junior Cookies and has options from the adjacent Fresh Corn Grill , which offers eight salads, a sundried tomato pasta, and corn chowder.
Cannabis Cafe
Though West Hollywood’s first cannabis lounge debuted in 2019, it temporarily closed in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cannabis Cafe owners changed the name and food options before reopening in November 2023. The interior remains the same and some former staff returned. Pre-rolls, cannabis flower, edibles, and beverages can be purchased at Cannabis Cafe. Patrons must buy the lounge’s cannabis brand or pay $25 to bring their own. Jonah’s Kitchen chef Jonah Johnson also revamped the menu with casual bites like Korean-style wings, nachos, burgers, steak frites, and an option to build your own sundaes or milkshakes.
Palm Springs
In Palm Springs, cannabis businesses are open but are struggling . In October 2023, the Palm Springs City Council approved a moratorium on accepting applications for any new cannabis stores. It’s a precarious market, and many have unceremoniously shut down over the last 12 months. Always call first to confirm operating hours or if these cannabis lounges are still operational.
Mainstage Dispensary Lounge
The Mainstage rivals ones in West Hollywood with a dispensary and stylish rooms to hang out with fellow cannabis lovers. Located in Cathedral City, this lounge even offers game nights (Bingo, anyone?) and DJs. During the later hours, staff dim the lights, and plenty of snacks are available for purchase.
Four Twenty Bank
In Downtown Palm Springs, operators took over a shuttered bank and opened Four Twenty Bank in 2021. It’s a massive dispensary and lounge complete with couches, cushiony seats, air hockey, pinball machines, Jenga, and video games like Ms. Pac-Man. When feeling snacky, try the vending machine for food and beverages.
The Artist Tree
The woods weho, two la cocktail spots land on a list of the best north american bars, a prominent plant-based restaurant in la will start serving meat, and vegans are upset, dinah’s will be reborn in culver city after 64 years in westchester.

Grace Kim shoots 7-under 64 at Wilshire Country Club to lead LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship
LOS ANGLES (AP) — Grace Kim shot a 7-under 64 at Wilshire Country Club to take the first-round lead Thursday in the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship.
Playing in the morning session, the 23-year-old Australian capped her bogey-free round with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 18th.
“Well, I chunked my tee shot on the last hole 20 meters short and then I chipped it in it,” Kim said. “I think that’s pretty cool, in front of everyone.”
Maja Stark of Sweden, Sei Young Kim of South Korea and Chanettee Wannasaen of Thailand were a stroke back at 65. Stark finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda.
“I was so tired when I got here,” Stark said. “I barely been practicing. Just did a little bit of what I needed to do. I feel like it’s kind of similar anyway because there are just some pins that you can’t go for just like at Chevron.”
Korda withdrew Monday, a day after her fifth victory in a row.
Grace Kim won the LOTTE Championship last year in a playoff in Hawaii for her first LPGA Tour title. She missed the cut in The Chevron, shooting 76-72.
“If I was to compare my round today to last week, I really focused on just not having too much in my mind,” she said. “I think I over-thought a lot of things through my first and second round last week and struggled a little bit mentally.”
Sei Young Kim had four straight birdies on Nos. 12-15 in her afternoon round. She won the last of her 12 LPGA Tour titles in 2020.
Auston Kim, Haeran Ryu and Nataliya Guseva shot 66, and defending champion Hannah Green matched Amy Yang and Bianca Pagdanganan at 67.

Jon Rahm's longing for American Express, West Coast PGA Tour events shows some LIV discontent
Is Jon Rahm having an existential crisis?
Maybe not, but the two-time major champion and two-time winner of The American Express in La Quinta is certainly not on what is believed to be the script for most LIV golfers. That script is supposed to go something like, well, I like what LIV does, it is better than the PGA Tour, it’s not all about the money and we are trying to grow the game.
Rahm keeps wandering off the script, especially in the last month.
At the Masters, for instance, Rahm talked about how LIV needs to strongly consider going to a 72-hole format rather than the 54-hole format that is one of its distinguishing characteristics. One of the criticisms of LIV is that format, though there are others who have no problem with it. Rahm, however, would like to see it changed .
Then came the Masters itself, where Rahm didn’t play well. And he looked miserable in Butler Cabin waiting to put the green jacket on new champion Scottie Scheffler.
More: What's the reason behind Masters' sharp decline in TV ratings? There might be several reasons
Now comes Rahm doubling down on comments he made earlier this year about wishing he could still play in some of his favorite PGA Tour events. Obviously, he still gets to play in the four majors, which are not controlled by the PGA Tour. But when he left the PGA Tour in December to join LIV, it meant being suspended from other PGA Tour events.
It might not make anyone at The American Express feel better, but their tournament is one that Rahm misses. While saying he’s playing all 14 LIV events this year, the four majors and the Ryder Cup, Rahm laments the open weeks of the calendar where he could be back in his favorite places, including the Coachella Valley.
Loving California
“There’s some PGA Tour events that if it’s not conflicting with my LIV schedule I’d love to go play. I’ve said numerous times and I’ll say it again, Palm Springs (The American Express), Torrey Pines (in San Diego), Phoenix, L.A., if I’m allowed to be able to play, the Players. Those are events that if I could, I would love to play.”
Three of those tournaments -- The American Express, The Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego and the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles -- are tournaments Rahm has won. He has always expressed a love for West Coast events, in particular Torrey Pines and the city of San Diego.
So is this buyer’s remorse from Rahm, who signed with LIV for something reported to be just short of $600 million? Or is it just a guy who can’t help being honest, a trait that made him popular with his fellow players and media members when he played on the PGA Tour?
Either way, Rahm is making a case – whether he knows it or not – for the PGA Tour and LIV to reach a deal and get to it sooner rather than later. The PGA Tour began doling out equity money to its players this week, money aided by the tour’s $3 billion deal with Strategic Sports Group. But another deal with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Trust is out there, with talks ongoing. That deal could bring more money to the PGA Tour, but it could also work to unify a game that has been divided by defections from the PGA Tour to LIV.
Rahm’s jump to LIV in November and his inability to defend three PGA Tour titles in the first seven weeks of this season, including The American Express, seemed to be a tipping point for many fans. Since then, PGA Tour ratings have been down around 20 percent (the American Express ratings were actually up in January) and many fans have said they have lost some interest in the professional game.
Rahm certainly isn’t speaking for all LIV players when he talks about 72-hole tournaments and wanting to expand his schedule by playing a handful of PGA Tour events that he really enjoys. But for now Rahm is the biggest signing LIV has over the last two years short perhaps of Phil Mickelson in 2022. So when he talks with a certain discontent in his comments, the powers on both sides of the professional golf divide probably need to be listening.
