Pokémon Sword and Shield ’s Isle of Armor expansion finally allows players to get more rare Poké Balls. You can do this using Apricorns.
Apricorns are ball-like fruit found around the Isle of Armor from shaking trees. Certain biomes on the island produce specific Apricorns.
Once you get a bunch of Apricorns, you’ll want to take them to the Cram-o-matic at the dojo. This unlocks shortly after you first arrive at the dojo and it’s sitting in the room to the right. You’ll have to supply the Cram-o-matic with four items in order to get one randomly.
The more Apricorns of a specific color you put into the machine, the higher chance you’ll have to get the rare ball counterpart. If you put in four Apricorns of one color, you’ll have a 1% chance to get the rare ball for that respective color. You’ll also have a 0.1% chance to get a Safari Ball or a Sport Ball .
Note that there is a very high chance that you’ll end up with Poké Balls, Great Balls, Quick Balls, and other Poké Balls you can get at the store. If you’re looking for rare Poké Balls specifically, you’ll need a lot of Apricorns.
You can see what Apricorn colors you’ll need to get the respective rare ball below.
- Red Apricorns: Level Ball
- Yellow Apricorns: Moon Ball
- Green Apricorns: Friend Ball
- Blue Apricorns: Lure Ball
- Pink Apricorns: Love Ball
- Black Apricorns: Heavy Ball
- White Apricorns: Fast Ball

In the core series games
Generation i.
When used in a wild encounter, it will attempt to catch the wild Pokémon with a catch rate modifier of 2×. The player can only have these Poké Balls in their possession during a Safari Game .
Generation II to VII
The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is now 1.5×.
Generation VIII
Starting in Pokémon Sword and Shield 's The Isle of Armor Expansion , the Safari Ball can now be obtained outside of a Safari Game and used in regular wild encounters. The Safari Ball cannot be used in situations in which Poké Balls cannot be used, such as in wild battles with two or more opponents currently present. If used in a Trainer battle, the opposing Trainer will bat the ball away, wasting the player's turn.
The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is 1× in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but was changed back to 1.5× in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl .
Generation IX
The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is once again 1×.
Description
Acquisition.
When the player participates in a Safari Game , they receive 30 Safari Balls exclusively for use within the Safari Game. They are not placed in the player's Bag , and any unused Safari Balls are returned at the end of the Safari Game.
In Pokémon Yellow only, if the player does not have the required $ 500 to enter the Safari Zone, they can instead pay all of their money and receive a number of Safari Balls proportional to the amount paid. If they have no money, they can enter for free and receive a single Safari Ball.
Distribution
Cameo appearances.
Pokémon X and Y
Despite being unobtainable as an item in Generation VI , a Safari Ball appears in the Poké Ball Boutique in Lumiose City .
Kiloude City 's Friend Safari building contains a Safari Ball on its sign. However, the Friend Safari does not act like a typical Safari Zone and Safari Balls are not legitimately obtainable or used in the game.
In the anime
Main series
In EP035 , Kaiser gave Ash and his friends 30 Safari Balls to be used within the Kanto Safari Zone . Ash attempted to catch various rare Pokémon with them, but he ultimately ended up using all of his Safari Balls on nothing but Tauros . The Safari Balls containing Ash's Tauros reappeared in Showdown at the Po-Ké Corral ; however, for an unexplained reason, whenever Ash has subsequently used one of his Tauros in a battle , it has been sent out from a standard Poké Ball .
A Safari Ball appeared in Which One ~ Is It? , a Japanese ending theme from Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl , also marking the debut of the Ball's in-game design in the anime.
In A Frenzied Factory Fiasco! , while Safari Balls themselves did not appear at the Poké Ball Factory , Meowth was briefly painted on with the Safari Ball's camouflage pattern, revealing that these Balls are made at the factory. This is also the first time that the games' design of Safari Balls has appeared in the anime, outside of openings and endings.
Pokémon Origins
In File 4: Charizard , Red was seen catching a Chansey with a Safari Ball.
In the manga
Pokémon Adventures
Red, green & blue arc.
Safari Balls first appeared in Long Live the Nidoking! and A Hollow Victreebel , where Red received some from the robotic Safari Zone guide called Pidgebot , eventually catching a huge herd of Safari Zone Pokémon with them.
Diamond & Pearl arc
In A Skuffle with Skorupi , Diamond , Pearl , and Platinum entered the Great Marsh and received some Safari Balls to be used during the Safari Game, intending to catch a Grass-type Pokémon for Platinum to use against Crasher Wake . However, in the end, they failed to catch a single new Pokémon.
HeartGold & SoulSilver arc
In Weavile Wobbles But It Won't Fall Down , Silver received some Safari Balls while entering the Johto Safari Zone . He tried to use one on an Arbok , but Eusine stopped him, due to him having violated the Safari Zone's no-battling rule by attacking the Arbok with his Weavile .
Pokémon Zensho
In Fuchsia City , Satoshi received some Safari Balls while entering the Safari Zone.
- The Safari Ball is the only Poké Ball type introduced in Generation I not to be present in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! .

How to make every new Poké Ball in Pokémon: Isle of Armor
Unleash the power of the Apricorn.
The very special Apricorn Balls return to Pokémon Sword and Shield for the first time since the Johto games, Heart Gold and Soul Silver , making them a hot commodity for social currency like Shiny Raid fees. With the recently released Isle of Armor expansion , Apricorn Balls are more farmable than ever before.
Here's how to craft Apricon Balls, along with Safari and Sport Balls.
How to farm Apricorns in Isle of Armor
To make Apricorn Balls and the various other special balls, you first need to collect Apricorns, multi-colored berry-like items found around the island.
Tree Shaking
There are two methods you can use to obtain them. You can shake berry trees that you spot on your travels. Each shake has a chance of garnering you an Apricorn of any color or a berry. You can always shake a berry tree at least once before it starts to produce a wiggle of its own. This wiggle means that you've begun to disturb the Pokémon living in the tree. Time every shake after the first during that wiggle's lull to continue harvesting the tree. If a Pokémon attacks you from being too rough with the tree, you'll lose all your produce.
The second method is to speak to a woman (pictured below) in a blue shirt found around the Isle of Armor. For 100 Watts, which you can farm rather easily , she'll give you four Apricorns of the same color. She'll begin facilitating this trade after you've seen every Pokémon in Isle of Armor 's Pokédex. Until then, she'll show you a Pokémon you haven't seen when you interact with her. To expedite the time taken to see every Pokémon, make sure you speak to Hop in the dojo every day. Hop also tries to help by showing you new Pokémon.
Blue-shirted Ally
Once you've collected at least four Apricorns, you can try your hand at creating Apricorn Balls. Head to the Cramo-o-matic in the dojo, the mechanical marvel that looks just like a Crammorant found to the right of Honey.
How to properly use the Cramo-o-matic
Isle of Armor's new crafting system has tons of uses. You can use it to combine four of the same high-value item like Pearls, Nuggets, and Star Pieces to always earn the step up from those, being Pearl Strings, Big Nuggets, and Star Dust, respectively. You can also combine four Bottle Caps (which each max out IVs on a single stat) to make a Gold Bottle Cap that can be used to max IVs out on every stat.
Most importantly, you can use the Cramo-o-matic to obtain special balls like Apricorn Balls, Sport Balls, and Safari Balls. The success rate of this process isn't as clear obtaining single items, but it's doable nevertheless. Thanks to YouTuber AustinJohnPlays and Pokémon mega-site Serebii , there are concrete details on how this process works.
Firstly, you need four Apricorns of any color to start the crafting process. Each Apricorn color has access to a distinct possible ball result pool. The more Apricorns you use of the same color, the higher likelihood that if you do get an Apricorn ball it will be one from that color's pool. Additionally, it's believed that every Apricorn combination has an equal chance to create either a Sport or Safari Ball. You can see the entire combination chart below. The Cramo-o-matic's result will exude a shiny aura if you can successfully produce an Apricorn Ball.
Using this, you should eventually be able to obtain the Apricorn Ball of your dreams. If this seems too hectic, an alternative method is to consciously beat the Elite Four. Each time you emerge victorious, there's a random chance that you'll receive an Apricorn ball. The Pokémon Company is also known to occasionally distribute Apricorn Balls. If you're patient your desired balls will arrive, eventually.
Pokémon: Isle of Armor is now available for Nintendo Switch.

The Isle of Armor brings with it the return of Apricorns! These unique fruits can only be found in Pokemon Sword and Shield by purchasing the expansion pass DLC.
All Apricorn Types List
Used to make makeshift pokeballs.
Apricorns are used by the Cram-o-matic to get rare Pokeballs. In order to make rare ball, you need plenty of Apricorns so collect as much as you can!
Turned Into Aprijuice
In previous installments in the franchise, Apricorns were also able to be blended to create Aprijuice. The effect of the Aprijuice varied depending on what type of Apricorn it was made with. This feature does not seem to be in Sword and Shield.
Apricorns - How To Get
Shake down from trees.
The only way to get Apricorns in Pokemon Sword and Shield is to shake them down from berry trees found all over the island. You will get a mix of Apricorns and Berries, but don't shake too much or you might shake down a Pokemon!
Exclusive To The Isle Of Armor & Crown Tundra
Apricorns are only available for players who have the Isle of Armor & Crown Tundra expansion. It's possible that trading could be an option, but previously, Pokemon holding Apricorns cannot be traded so they cannot be shared between players.
Complete Isle Of Armor Pokedex
The lady who offers to show Pokedex entries for 100 Watts will apparently go on to sell you Apricorns for 100 W after you complete the Isle of Armor Pokedex. We were able to confirm this only on one file that has a full Pokedex completed, so we're inclined to say that is the main condition for this, but we are not 100% sure.
Apricorn - How To Use
Exchange 4 for poke balls in cram-o-matic.
You can use 4 Apricorns of any color & feed them into Hyde's Cram-o-matic machine to get a Poke Ball.
Getting Rare Poke Balls Is Random
There's a chance you can receive a random rare Poke Ball when you feed 4 Apricorns to the Cram-o-matic. However, all evidence seems to suggest that this is random. We will continue to look into this.
Apricorn Poke Ball List - How To Get
Confirmed poke balls from apricorns, poke ball is determined by apricorn color.
You can feed Apricorns to the Cram-o-matic machine to get a variety of Poke Balls. However, note that rare balls have a very low probability of showing up. Also, Safari and Sport balls can be obtained using any color Apricorn .
Example Of Apricorns & Poke Balls
Apricorn color & poke ball results, rare ball probability.
We ran tests on the Cram-o-matic a total of 350 times and received a mere 6 rare Poke Balls . Though still under verification, the rate of getting rare Poke Balls appears to be somewhere around 1-2% .
*Below are all the Poke Balls our team was able to get using Apricorns. Let us know in the comments below if you've found any other Poke Balls!!!

Here's how it works, every pure combination of apricorns, (full blue, red, etc.) Offers a 1% chance at 2 rare apricon balls (dream, lure, etc) 2% for less rare, and literal bulks of rates for the usuals,(poké) mixing halves those rates
2 x Yellow, 1 x Green and 1 x Black gave me a dusk ball.

Pokemon Sword & Shield: The Best Poke Balls, Ranked
Whether or not you catch that Pokemon you have your eye on depends on what kind of Poke Ball you use. Here are the best in Sword & Shield.
There are a lot of Poke Balls that the player can acquire and use in Pokemon Sword & Shield . Many have ideal conditions or circumstances that make them more effective while others are useful regardless of what’s going on. The best ones have a high catch rate and ideal scenarios that pop up frequently, but some can be surprisingly effective in some odd corner cases.
RELATED: Pokemon Sword & Shield: Tips To Forming Your Best Team
For players who want to fill out their Pokedex, it’s going to take a lot of capturing (which takes a lot of time and resources). To minimize the grind, frustration, and cost, it’s important to know which Poke Balls are best and when it's best to use them.
Updated August 19, 2022, by Gabrielle Huston: Pokemon live in Poke Balls at our sides, so may as well splurge for the very best ones! We've highlighted the advantage of every Poke Ball type here and indicated how you can get them in-game.
14 Love Ball
For non-legendaries, the Love Ball is a powerful option for those wanting something as effective as it is aesthetic. Gender is mostly useless in Pokemon besides breeding, but those wanting a colorful pink ball are benefited for catching Pokemon of the opposite gender to the one they have in play.
This means it won’t work for genderless Pokemon (like legendaries), but nearly any other Pokemon you encounter will be able to get a boost from this. Those wishing to Shiny Hunt in the fields of Galar will surely find success with it if they have at least one of each gender in their team.
13 Heavy Ball
While somewhat situational, the Heavy Ball is important to consider when you’re going after legendaries. Many of these Pokemon have incredibly high weights due to their size, and the Heavy Ball thankfully accomplishes this through a higher rate depending on the user’s heaviness.
RELATED: The Most Underrated Pokemon Of All Time, Ranked
An important warning is that this doesn’t apply to Gigantamax Pokemon, as their weight is technically unknown; the science behind them still being a slight mystery in Galar. Nonetheless, it’s a great tool for some of the hardest opponents in the game, particularly the five Regis you can find within the Crown Tundra.
12 Level Ball
One of the much rarer balls to find in Galar is the Level Ball, which has a much higher capture rate if your Pokemon is substantially higher than the target. This will essentially give the same rates as an Ultra Ball if you’re higher in any amount, but being double or more the target’s level will raise it exponentially.
Since most Gigantamax Pokemon are around level 60-70, this means you can get a bonus with this particular rare ball just by using any higher-level Pokemon . As a visual bonus, its rare gold coloring will only add to the premium status of whatever Pokemon you catch with it.
11 Nest Ball
The Nest Ball is remarkably similar to the Level Ball, in that its catch rate improves based on the level of the Pokemon you’re fighting against. Unlike the Level Ball, though, this is much easier to take advantage of, as it simply grants a boost against any Pokemon below Level 30 that increases based on how far it is below that threshold.
This means it can be slightly more limited, but it also means you can easily catch many weaker Pokemon early in the game without needing to damage them. For those who don’t want to kill every Pokemon as they hunt for a Shiny or Marked Wooloo in the first routes of the game, this ball can be a great asset to a fast catching process.
10 Safari Ball
Perhaps the rarest ball in the entire game, the Safari Ball is especially strange in Pokemon Sword & Shield by being only obtainable as a rare result from putting Apricorns in the Cram-O-Matic. This ball is used to being in the Safari Zone, but it’s at least as effective as any ball when it’s outside this retired environment.
RELATED: Sword & Shield: The Isle Of Armor – Great Uses For The Cram-O-Matic
In fact, most trainers might be surprised to know this ball is even better than a typical Poke Ball, as it has the same 2x capture rate that the Ultra Ball has. Given its extremely rare appearance in the game, and ability to catch Pokemon anywhere in Galar, it can be both a successful and glamorous option to store your prized partners.
9 Ultra Ball
If all else fails, this is the Poke Ball players want to be using. They cost 800 Poke Coins, are relatively easy to obtain, and have a solid 2x capture rate. There are certainly worse options and the average player can simply stock up on these and grind out captures without too many problems.
The reason it sits at the bottom of the list is because that 2x capture rate is low when compared to the others. It makes the list because they are very easy to come by, which can’t always be said for the others. They also have the advantage of being useful for any and all scenarios.
8 Dive Ball
Dive Balls give a 3.5x capture rate for Pokemon caught while surfing or fishing. While they're not as beneficial as other Poke Balls further up this list, they can be obtained in lots of different ways.
Water Pokemon are often used in PVP fights on rain teams and are strong in most PVE scenarios. Lots of players will have at least one Water-type on their roster thanks to their bulk and powerful attacks.
Net Balls have the same 3.5x capture rate as Dive Ball, with a few noticeable differences. For one, they catch any Water-type Pokemon regardless of how they’re encountered, and they can also catch Bug-type Pokemon.
RELATED: Pokemon Sword & Shield: Tips For Taking On The Champion Cup
This is nice for Water-types encountered outside of fishing or surfing, and helps when a strong Bug-type is encountered. It’s unclear if the effect stacks for the Water-Bug Araquanid, but they're still beneficial nonetheless since they’re the same price as Dive Balls and more varied in terms of usefulness.
6 Dream Ball
A powerful catching tactic since Generation 1 has been for players to knock out the target Pokemon via Sleep before attempting to capture. Being under the influence of Sleep makes the Pokemon more susceptible to being caught and the Dream Ball gives a nice 4x capture rate.
It doesn’t rank higher as some Pokemon are simply resistant to sleep and it requires the player to have a Pokemon that can reliably cause Sleep. The other downside is that they’re only obtained from the Ball Guy in Wyndon Stadium.
5 Timer Ball
The Timer Ball has a 4x capture rate if 10 turns have passed in battle, meaning it’s incredibly handy whenever you’re going up against something with high HP and frustrating recovery abilities. The average player would benefit from having a few of these when trying to catch tougher monsters when their team is weaker.
The only reason the Timer Ball doesn’t rank higher is that it’s not terribly efficient. If someone is grinding captures for whatever reason than having to wait 10 turns before attempting a capture on each and every Pokemon is going to take a while.
4 Repeat Ball
The Repeat Ball is an interesting item. If the player has previously caught the intended Pokemon than this Ball grants a 3.5x capture rate. Otherwise its on par with a regular Poke Ball.
For players trying to find the Pokemon with the best IVs or nature , this is a great Ball to have. IV or farming, assuming the player isn’t set up for breeding, is quite the grind and requires capturing the same Pokemon over and over again.
3 Dusk Ball
The Dusk Ball is easily the best niche Ball in the game. It gives a 3.5x capture rate when the capturing is done at night or in dark areas like caves. This is tremendously helpful as a player can do their hunting at night and be guaranteed a 3.5x rate regardless of the Pokemon’s typing or other situation.
RELATED: Pokemon Sword & Shield: The Best Possible Team You Could Make Up For Gen I Pokemon
But the reason this Ball is so incredibly useful in Pokemon Sword & Shield is because this bonus works in Gigantamax Dens . These dark places ensure the Dusk Ball gives it’s boosted capture rate making it useful for Raids .
2 Quick Ball
Quick Balls are the absolute best Poke Balls in the game that are easily obtainable. This ball gives a 5x capture rate when used at the very first turn of an encounter. No weakening the Pokemon first, no specific scenario, no typing requirements, nothing. The player simply lobs it as soon as they see their opponent and they get a 5x capture rate.
This is by far the best Poke Ball to amass in the game. The only reason to carry other Poke Balls is if that first capture attempt with the Quick Ball fails and the player needs a plan B.
1 Master Ball
Of course, the Master Ball had to be at the top of the list. It gives a 100% capture rate regardless of the Pokemon encountered. Some players will keep it for legendaries , while other hardcore players will save scum to capture a shiny version of their favorite legendary using this Ball.
The one obvious downside is there is only one Master Ball guaranteed in the entire game. As a result, some players will never end up using it for fear of wasting it. This won’t make general capture grinding easier, but it’s by far the best a player could ask for in this game.
