AFI Reschedule 2022 ‘Bodies’ Tour Dates to Fall
UPDATE: AFI have, for the most part, rescheduled their "Bodies" tour to the fall of 2022 . In a statement, the band wrote: "Given the current challenges that we are still facing at this stage of the pandemic, we have come to the very difficult decision to postpone The Bodies Tour to the fall of 2022. With Covid cases still on the rise, we fear that we will not be able to complete the tour the way it is currently scheduled, and moving it will hopefully give us a better chance to see it through to its entirety."
They added, "Because our Los Angeles shows do not require us to travel, these 2 dates will still be taking place in March. We will also be adding a new show in Anaheim, CA on 10/25 and Ventura, CA on 11/25 to the itinerary. We thank you for your understanding, and we hope you hold onto your tickets for the fall. Please contact your point of purchase if you have any questions." See all of the newly rescheduled dates listed below.
AFI fans will have a little longer to wait until the band tours the U.S. again, but you can now start to plan as the group has announced the first leg of the "Bodies" tour kicking off in February 2022.
The band is hitting the road with Cold Cave opening dates on the upcoming run. The tour is set to launch Feb. 11 in San Diego, wrapping just a few miles up the coast in Los Angeles on March 25 after traversing the country. All dates, venues and cities can be seen listed below.
Fans can currently RSVP for the tour and get pre-sale information for each date by visiting the band's website . Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday (June 25) at 10AM local time, though the band's Despair Faction fan club will have access to a pre-sale starting Wednesday (June 23) and there will be local pre-sales on Thursday (June 24).
The tour comes in support of AFI's newly released album, Bodies , which is currently available here . The band has steadily offered previews of the album throughout 2021, with the songs "Twisted Tongues," "Escape From Los Angeles," "Looking Tragic," "Begging for Trouble," "Dulceria," "Far Too Near" and "Tied to a Tree" all arriving prior to the record's June 11 release.

AFI Announce 2022 US Tour in Support of New Album Bodies
The 26-date outing kicks off in February with openers Cold Cave
AFI have announced an early 2022 US headlining tour in support of their new album, Bodies .
The trek kicks off on February 11th at SOMA in San Diego and hits most major US markets before concluding with a two-night stand March 25th and 26th at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. Darkwave act Cold Cave will be along for the 26-date outing.
“So anxiously, we’ve awaited the ability to perform our eleventh record for you,” AFI vocalist Davey Havok said via a press release. “This winter, please join us in the Bodies celebration long overdue.”
Tickets for AFI’s 2022 US tour go on sale Wednesday, June 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time for fan club members. Local pre-sales start Thursday, June 24th from 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. local time, with official on-sale beginning Friday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m. local time. Visit Ticketmaster to purchase tickets, or check here for deals.
AFI have evolved over the years, starting out in the ’90s as a hardcore act, then delivering a string of melodic hard-rock radio hits in the early 2000s. On Bodies, the band has embraced a gothic pop sound inspired by bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode. While some fans of earlier material might feel alienated, the artistic shift has opened up AFI’s music to a new realm of listeners. Tapping Cold Cave in the support slot is a sign that AFI have fully embraced the darkwave scene that appears to have influenced the sound of Bodies .
“Anyone who knows our catalog knows that no two records really sit together,” guitarist Jade Puget stated in regards to the stylistic changes. “Some sit a little closer, maybe. We do certain things, just by virtue of who we are, that are consistent, but those things come about organically. Every time we do something, I have to judge it on its own merits. Some fans are going to judge a new album, or a new song, based on what’s come before. But as artists, we can’t do that, because it would only hinder our creativity.”

AFI never stepped into the mainstream; the masses came to them. The platinum success of Sing the Sorrow blazed a path for a generation of hardcore-punk weaned bands to similarly crossover. 2006's Decemberunderground upended expectations again and earned AFI a second platinum plaque. Crash Love was another adventurous turn, with expansive and almost optimistic-sounding melodies, glistening with emotion. The haunting Burials arrived four years later, debuting in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. The self-titled follow-up, commonly referred to as "The Blood Album," became AFI's second-highest charting album since their inception, debuting at No. 5 in 2017. After the release of AFI (The Blood Album), the band was hardly content to rest on its laurels, AFI then released yet another highly-praised addition to their discography, 2018's The Missing Man EP. On June 11, 2021, the band released their highly anticipated 11th studio album, Bodies. Critics have hailed Bodies as ranking high in AFI's body of work, with the likes of SPIN praising the band for "fusing some experimental new steps into the tried and true AFI formula," and calling their music "one of the most distinct and recognizable sounds today." Kerrang! praised the band's continual inventiveness, saying that "Throughout, even during the more familiar-sounding songs, keyboards and electronic beats pop up, leaving the whole thing with a feeling of gutter-glitter that underlines Davey’s intent with the soul of it." AFI's unshakeable connection with their audience is a testament to the band's knack for reinvention, renewal, and exploration, anchored by an unblemished authenticity. AFI songs are embedded in the spiritual DNA of a legion of supporters and Bodies is further demonstration of AFI's unwavering commitment to artistic exploration, a dark conjuration of an uncapturable muse. The album was produced by the band's own Jade Puget, mixed by Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups), and mastered by Vlado Meller (Oasis, Pink Floyd).”

AFI: Bodies Tour 2022 at Hollywood Palladium
Afi tickets, hollywood palladium | los angeles, california.
AFI’s highly anticipated 11th studio album is finally here, and this is your chance to catch it live! AFI the Bodies Tour 2022 at Hollywood Palladium on Friday, March 25th 2022 with very special, very synthetic guests Cold Cave. So, grab some tickets and get your bodies here, it's going to be an epic way to start 2022, the Californian punks AFI have never been a band to stick in one place for any great length of time, but this time they have fully committed to the post-punk that they dabbled in on, The Blood Album. As for Cold Cave as the main supporting artist, they also have, Fate In Seven Lessons, a dark synth-pop seven song EP, that’s brand-new too.
Bodies, the eleventh studio album by AFI, released on June 11, 2021. Coming in at the 36 spot on the Independent Albums and the 33 spot on the Top Album Sales charts, according to AFI frontman Davey Havok, the album was written in early 2020, prior to COVID-19 lockdowns, which had no impact on the album, apart from delaying its release and subsequent tour, as it was ready all the way back in April 2020. The album marks the band’s first full-length release since their self-titled, Blood, album in 2017, and, true to form, they don’t pull their punches, seamlessly incorporating elements of ’80s goth rock and synth-pop into their signature brand of post-punk, AFI dish out somber edge with outright elegance. Post-punk band, A Fire Inside, consists of lead singer Davey Havok, drummer and backing singer Adam Carson, bassist, backing singer and keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist, backing singer and keyboardist Jade Puget. The band first gained commercial success with their fifth album, The Art of Drowning, in 2000, which came in at the number 174 on the Billboard 200, they followed it with their sixth studio album, Sing the Sorrow, in 2003, which finally launched them into punk stardom, coming in at the number 5 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

AFI Announces 2022 U.S. Tour
AFI will embark on a U.S. tour in early 2022. The "Bodies" trek will kick off on February 11 in San Diego, California, and wrap up on March 25 in Los Angeles, California. Support on all shows will come from COLD CAVE .
"So anxiously, we've awaited the ability to perform our eleventh record for you," says AFI 's Davey Havok . "This winter, please join us in the 'Bodies' celebration long overdue."
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. local time.
AFI 's latest album, "Bodies" , was released on June 11 via Rise Records . Havok told Forbes that he wants to play "all" of the LP's songs live. "I'm really looking forward to trying 'Dulceria' live. There's a track called 'Tied To A Tree' that I'm very curious to hear how that will develop in a live forum. 'Begging For Trouble' is a really, really fun one for me. I'm looking forward to that. Honestly, all of them. This is a record that I'm very, very happy about and very much looking forward to play. I would go out and play the album front to back. That would be fun for me. That won't happen. We don't do that. But that would be fun."
Havok also discussed the challenges of making "Bodies" during the coronavirus crisis.
"When COVID hit, we had plans to release and tour the record," he said. "And those were halted. It was tough for me to be sitting on this record that I loved so much, and like it or not, we would inevitably have to release it or we wouldn't have to, but I felt inevitably that the group would want to release it before we would be able to play on it. And that's what's happening. So that's tough. That schedule allowed us to put out a record without the scheduling of a tour. But for me, that's hard because the performance of the music means so much to me. Now, of course, I know that doesn't mean that we won't be able to perform these songs at some point. These songs, they won't go away. But it is a surreal circumstance for me to, for the first time, in my life as a musician release music into a void with no live realization of that music. It is weird."

AFI Brings "Bodies Tour 2022" to Orlando at House of Blues on December 3rd, 2022
Written and Photographed by Dylan Duncan
ORLANDO, FL --Â Punk legends AFI concluded their Bodies Tour 2022 in Orlando, FL on December 3rd, 2022.
For nearly 30 years this band has put on one of the most consistent live shows you could ever see. This tour was especially unique because they seemingly played a different setlist every night.
Few bands have a catalogue as diverse as AFI. From their early hardcore offerings like 1997âs Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes , to 2003âs emo classic Sing The Sorrow , and 2006âs electronic/goth influenced DECEMBERUNDERGROUND .
This tour would see them promoting their 2021 release, Bodies , which saw the band lean heavily into their new-wave influences. This show was one of the first dates of the tour to sell-out and the House of Blues Orlando would see members of the Despair Faction (the bands fan club, equally as diverse as their discography) come out in droves to support their favorite band.
Every AFI show Iâve been opens with the band taking the stage to chants of âThrough our bleeding... we are one!,â the opening lyric to "Strength Through Wounding" from the band's seminal classic 1999âs Black Sails In The Sunset .
The band would play for nearly 90 minutes, dusting off classics from their catalogue, including a personal favorite âThe Boy Who Destroyed The Worldâ from the 1999 "All Hallowâs EP", which I discovered when it was featured on the soundtrack for Tony Hawkâs Pro Skater 3.
A few other standouts from the set:
- "Aurelia," from the 2017 self-titled album has always been a killer B-side
- Along with "Endlessly, She Said" from 2003âs Sing The Sorrow , showed that the band is a well-oiled machine that has truly mastered their craft and catalog of music.
- Additionally, the band would kick into their chart-topping single "Miss Murder." While this song may not be one of my favorites, it goes to show the true power of a radio single/MTV hit. I believe the true gatekeeping test for AFI fans is whether they discovered the band before or after this song was released.
The show would wrap up with two of the band's biggest hits. First, "Silver and Cold" from 2003âs Sing The Sorrow . This song would be one of the first hints at this band experiment with a more emo/radio friendly influence, and it still hits hard today nearly 20 years later.
Lastly, the band would seemingly pay tribute to their lifelong dedicated fans with a performance of "Days of The Phoenix" from 2000âs The Art of Drowning .
Next up for the band is a Sing The Sorrow 20th anniversary next spring.

Album review: AFI â Bodies
Goth-punk heroes AFI continue to mature and change on curious 11th album, Bodies.
AFI âs self-titled 2017 album, also known as The Blood Album, was always going to be a tough act to follow. Aside from being musically beautiful and lyrically inscrutable in a way that invited continuous exploration, it provided a case study in how a band associated with a âyoungâ sound can modify what they do to reflect their advancing years and shifting creative appetites. If this follow up isnât as effective, itâs not down to a lack of quality, but being a less cohesive collection that doesnât quite pull that act off as deftly as its predecessor.
Bodies instantly feels familiar, in a reassuring way, and not just because five of its 11 tracks have long been available to the listening public. Tonally, the likes of Begging For Trouble, Looking For Tragic and Twisted Tongues, with its marching snare and galloping guitar, retain the sleek but spiky model weâve grown accustomed to in recent years. Thereâs a residue of the retro about them, too, no doubt informed by singer Davey Havokâs new wave flirtations in his other band Dreamcar, giving them an added atmosphere and vigour.
You only truly realise how tricky this balancing act is when Bodies falls short, which it occasionally does, in moments that are either derivative or a little dull. Taking cues from musical heroes with long careers has served AFI well in recent years, but sometimes they stray too close to their source material, as on Far Too Near, which is far too much like The Cure (as is On Your Back). Escape From Los Angeles, meanwhile, feels like something of a missed opportunity â a more interesting song played at half speed. And thatâs not the only point youâre aching for an injection of the rampant pace of yore; Dulceria, with its moody bass and surf guitar lines, walks a precariously thin line between laid-back and lazy, finally teetering into the latter camp as it plods towards the end of its near-five minute running time.
Like The Blood Album, Bodies saves its most experimental moment for the final track. Back then it was The Wind That Carries Me Away, a bluesy bar stomp the band unfortunately didnât capitalise on with this new album; now itâs the extraordinary industrial lullaby Tied To A Tree. Glacial in both tone and pace, it creeps forwards slowly and ominously before bursting forth into a vast cavern of sound, with Daveyâs voice aching on an epic scale. Itâs the albumâs high point by several thousand feet, while also suggesting that members of AFI could enjoy careers as composers for film, much like Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross .
Letâs be honest: AFI donât make bad albums, and Bodies certainly hasnât changed that. Itâs just that many of the good things about it are the elements that also end up leading its authors astray. The bandâs desire to suffuse their sound with new tones and textures is admirable and frequently pays dividends, but there are moments when that drive to evolve leads them to either cleave too close to other bands or stray too far from their own fundamentals. And while it must be an unenviable task having to navigate these considerations musically, AFI are never less than engaging and still frequently fascinating when theyâre doing it.
Verdict: 3/5

AFI âBodiesâ (2021) Review
AFI is not the band that you remember from their hardcore punk days. If âBodiesâ is your first introduction to their current body of work, youâll be sour fast. This record is nothing like the fast paced, frenetic punk rockers that broke the mold previously. What you are left with now is a more brooding, The Cure meets Adam Ant meets Misfits with a little polish. The themes are ever there, loss, life, love, death, and the likes, but youâll find the music to be a little less hardcore than previous releases.
That is not to say that âBodiesâ is a bad record. On the contrary, itâs an eclectic record that mixes rock, and much more. This is especially heard on tracks with heavy synth elements to them, like âEscape From Los Angelesâ, and bass lines that come through nicely like that of âDulceriaâ, and âBegging For Troubleâ. Thereâs not a lot of screaming, thereâs not a lot of gusto on this record, but itâs not bad by any means.
AFI manages to bring about a record that totally bridges the gap between their previous recordings, and gives them an interesting mix of sounds. Itâs not hardcore, itâs not too heavy, itâs as though the Cure had a brother that got into keyboards. Thatâs about as best as I can describe the music. Itâs not quite punk, itâs not quite alternative, itâs not goth, itâs just AFI. It has some great notes, catchy rhythms, and well, it works. âBodiesâ works on a level that I didnât think it would, and has me hooked. Itâll catch you off guard, and will no doubt be a record you spin many times over.
A Note on The “Bodies” Tour
I was fortunate enough to catch the band on their âBodiesâ tour, and they really put on a show. They started with âGirlâs Not Greyâ, and played a bunch of tracks from this record, as well as their previous offerings, and even an encore performance of âTotal Immortalâ. This is an emotional record with a focus on rock, and even a little opera thrown in for good measure. The guys in AFI really put on a show with âBodiesâ on tour, and throughout this record, which features some stand out tracks and a nice send up to darker bands overall.
Overall Thoughts
AFI shines through this record. It has a mix of emotions, catharsis, and musical endeavor. I like the mix, it’s solid, and features the best of modern AFI music. “Bodies” may not appeal to old school fans of the band, but noting the “Bodies” tour, that doesn’t seem to be a problem, as their fan base is really big overall.
