Eagles announce final ever UK live shows for Long Goodbye farewell tour

After more than five decades on the road, the Eagles have decided to conclude their journey as a live performing band.

The band will now embark on their farewell Long Goodbye tour, spanning the US and the rest of the world.
As part of this farewell tour, the iconic country rock legends have revealed their last-ever UK shows, providing British fans with a final opportunity to witness them live.

Despite initial uncertainties expressed by Don Henley during their BST Hyde Park headline concert in 2022 about a possible return to European shores, the Eagles have put those doubts to rest.
In a surprising turn of events, they've announced a three-show residency at Manchester's Co-op Live in May and June 2024.
To add to the excitement, it has been confirmed that Steely Dan will be the supporting act for each of the scheduled concerts.
These farewell performances will see the band, comprising Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B Schmit, Vince Gill, and Deacon Frey, celebrating over 50 years of their illustrious musical career.
The Eagles will grace Manchester with their presence from May 31st to June 4th, 2024, for a three-night residency.
The band said in a statement: "The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds."
"Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years."

Additionally, a date at the GelreDome in Arnhem, Holland, has been confirmed. The statement suggests the possibility of the band considering other cities if the demand for their performances persists.
Anticipate a nostalgic journey through their timeless repertoire, including classics like 'Hotel California,' 'Take It Easy,' 'One Of These Nights,' and 'Desperado.' The band will also pay homage to their co-founder and original bassist, Randy Meisner, who passed away in 2023 and performed lead vocals on 'Take It To The Limit.'

After over 50 years on the road, the final lyric to the Eagles ' 1976 hit 'The Last Resort' now applies to the band's career as live performers.
The country rock legends have called time on their chapter as a live touring band, with the 'Long Goodbye' tour taking them throughout the US and the remainder of the world to say goodbye one last time.
As part of their final hurrah, Eagles have announced their final ever UK shows too, offering one last time for British fans to see them in the flesh.
At their BST Hyde Park headline concert in 2022, Don Henley cast doubts that they'd ever return to European shores.

During the show, Henley said: "In case we don’t pass this way again, I want to thank you all for embracing these songs, taking them into your hearts and your homes - we appreciate it."
They've dispelled any doubts however by announcing a three-show residency at Manchester's Co-op Live in May and June 2024.
It's also been confirmed that Steely Dan will be supporting the Eagles for each of the scheduled concerts.

Alongside their three-night residency in Manchester from 31st May to 4th June 2024, the Eagles have also confirmed a date at the GelreDome in Arnhem, Holland.
However, by the sounds of the statement, it looks like the band is keeping potential dates open to perform in other cities if the demand to see them in there.
They're sure to perform a swathe of classic numbers like 'Hotel California', 'Take It Easy', 'One Of These Nights' and 'Desperado' throughout each night, as well as pay tribute to the band's co-founder and original bassist Randy Meisner - who also performed lead vocals on 'Take It To The Limit' - who passed away in 2023.

For a band that famously said they would only get back together when “hell freezes over”, the Eagles (not The Eagles, apparently) seem to tour so regularly that some form of major climatic event is clearly long overdue. The band are currently coming towards the end of a fairly lengthy jaunt around the UK and Ireland and, fresh from a four night stint at London’s O2, appeared on Monday evening on the stage of the relatively intimate 13,500 capacity First Direct Arena in Leeds. This tour is billed as the History Of The Eagles, and it pretty much lives up to that billing with a couple of exceptions, more of which later. The twenty-seven song set list is a good career retrospective, and the performance was as flawless as you might expect from such a skilled bunch of old pros. The evening started in a low key way with chief Eagles Don Henley and Glenn Frey ambling on stage, picking up a couple of acoustic guitars and making themselves comfortable on an equipment crate and stool before playing a lovely version of “Saturday Night” from 1973’s “Desperado” album. As the cheers died down they were joined on stage by Bernie Leadon who left the band in 1975, but happily is guesting throughout the current dates. Leadon’s familiar fair, curly locks may have long gone, but his voice is still sweet – as he evidenced on the second number “Train Leaves Here This Morning”- and his guitar playing remains classy. The early part of the first set suffered a little as video interview clips were shown which didn’t help the early rhythm of the show, but in hindsight these were probably deemed necessary to fill some time as additional band members wandered on stage, pieces of kit were introduced and the stage set grew. Bassist Timothy B Schmit joined Henley, Frey and Leadon for “Peaceful Easy Feeling” before Henley took a seat at a small drum kit stage left and the band started “Witchy Woman” while Joe Walsh wandered on unannounced from stage left. Four songs in and the five Eagles were finally present and correct. The remainder of the first set comprised “Doolin’Dalton/Desperado (Reprise)”, “Already Gone” (which featured superb lead playing from Leadon), “Best Of My Love”, “Lyin’ Eyes” (dedicated by Frey to his first wife, “plaintiff”), “One Of These Nights” and “Take It To The Limit”. During this first set Walsh looked rather subdued, perhaps as the songs predated his joining the band but he seemed content to remain low key on these tracks and leave the bulk of the playing to Frey, Leadon and additional guitarist Steuart Smith who throughout the evening contributed a significant amount of excellent guitar work, including a note perfect rendition of Don Felder’s parts of “Hotel California”, on a double neck guitar, naturally. Throughout the evening Walsh worked his way through a staggering array of guitars which pleased the axe-nerds in my area of the crowd as he seemingly changed guitar every song. The ebullient and wisecracking Frey – sample: “I’m from Detroit where mother is a half a word” – announced a short interval with the excuse that with such a lengthy set the band were required a bathroom break to get through it. The interval also saw the last of Leadon’s contributions until the encores. Post interval the journey through the band’s history continued with “Pretty Maids All In A Row”, Walsh’s first vocal lead of the evening. Walsh’s vocals may be fragile but they are endearing, and really it’s his guitar playing that people particularly want to hear and the last third of the set is where he comes to the fore, cutting loose on “Life’s Been Good”, the old James Gang song “Funk #49” and an encore of “Rocky Mountain Way” where the backdrop showed Joe dressed as superman flying across the Rockies as the real Joe dazzled us with his Talk Box and some gonzo riffing. Timothy B Schmit provided gorgeous vocals on “I Can’t Tell You Why” and “Love Will Keep Us Alive” but the vocal star of the Eagles remains Don Henley, possessor of one of the great American voices. His singing on such numbers as “The Best Of My Love”, “Desperado”, “One Of These Nights” and “The Long Run” were simply sublime. Before “In The City” Frey thanked the audience for their respect in remaining seated through the slower ballads but advised that they could now feel free to express themselves. Most didn’t however, and remained seated although the band didn’t seem to mind. The set list was pretty much perfect – although perhaps I’m alone in finding it strange that the “Long Road Out Of Eden” album was ignored entirely throughout the evening’s walk through the band’s history. Not their finest work, but I’d quite like to have heard “Waiting In The Weeds” for example at the expense of “Those Shoes”. The band was augmented by five additional musicians – they were excellent and deserve to be name checked so take a bow Steuart Smith, Scott Crago, Richard Davis, Will Hollis and Michael Thompson. When all is said and done, it has to be said that it was a damn good show. The sound was immaculate throughout with every individual instrument crystal clear. Some may criticise the slickness or predictability of the performance but with ticket prices so high the audience has a right to expect a professional show. The band’s request that audience members remain seated during much of the performance seemed to suit most people, and, it has to be said, their somewhat controversial and often ridiculed “strictly no photography” edict meant that you saw most of the show first hand rather than though the screen of the cell phone of the person in front of you, and this made a surprisingly welcome change. Including the interval and video segments the performance lasted around three hours, which contrasted significantly with Eric Clapton’s miserly eighty five minute performance at the same venue the night before, which still had people grumbling twenty four hours later. There was a sour note to the evening though, and something of a jarring omission. The tour is billed as the History Of The Eagles and while former member Randy Meisner was given a respectful shout out by Frey during the introduction to “Take It To The Limit”, Don Felder’s contribution to the band was studiously and, to my mind, rather pettily ignored altogether. His airbrushing from this history seems so Stalinist that it was almost a surprise to see him still appearing in the photos used in the programme and not as a silhouette. To me this reflected poorly on Frey and Henley, who had they name checked Felder, admitted that they had had their differences, but acknowledged that he too was part of their history they would have looked much more gracious, and bigger people.

I bought tickets to accompany the missus, she’s the Eagles fan, I’m more of a metal fan. However, The Eagles were fantastic, musically of course they were note perfect and vocally - apart from the bass player, his voice was a bit weak to be honest- spot on.
All the favourites from down the ages where there with the crowd singing along to almost every song, there was a lot of love in the crowd!
I particularly liked Joe Walsh’ performance, in the city and Rocky Mountain way we’re powerful and energetic.
The back catalogue is huge and every track a crowd pleaser, surprisingly Hotel California was not the show closer, brilliant as it was, that honour was left to Desperado, as with every track tonight it was delivered beautifully, would I recommend an Eagles gig to anyone unsure whether to chance it or not, absolutely.
I have always wanted to see The Eagles as a matter of fact it is a bucket list concert. My very first time going to the see them and I was not disappointed. Three and a half hours of pure music with a small break. I sang along with almost every song the band played. I have gotten used to politics in concerts this was a politics free zone. thank you so much for the break.
One gripe if I have one it seemed like the special guest was Joe Walsh, he played James Gang to Eagles songs. It is a small gripe because the guy is just amazing. One thing I noticed just from being old when the girl came out in the Hotel California set to flip the album she actually did not flip the the album. yes I am old. but it was a great effect.
I would go see them again in 1/2 a heart beat.
What. A. Show! I grew up listening to the Eagles, either on album, CD, or my dad playing his guitar. It was a truly wonderful experience to be able to see them live with my dad and watch his enjoyment of seeing a band he’s loved for so long live. The staging and pace of the show was absolutely amazing and set the tone perfectly, and the graphics and lighting designers definitely did their best work. We were close to the stage and it was absolutely fascinating to watch all the cameras recording the event, as well. The band was exceptional but the team behind them is definitely to be commended for this one! I hope everyone who sees this tour has the same level of enjoyment my family and I did!
Experiencing the September, 2019 Eagles "Hotel California" concert at the MGM was a musical trip into near perfection.
The sound was very good even in our very expensive nosebleed seats.
The place was packed and the audience nonstop in its loud and persistent appreciation of all things Eagles, especially new members Deacon Frey and Vince Gill.
Longtime mega-talented members Henley, Walsh and Smith were true crowd pleasers, as they always are.
Having a full orchestra and an angelic choir from UNLV supporting the endeavor was at times ethereally mesmerizing to the point of enthrallment.
Once again the Eagles have lived up to their reputation as purveyors of musical excellence.

The Eagles were amazing. After the death of Glenn Frey I feared that my Eagles would be no more. But the addition of Deacon Frey & Vince Gill was a perfect fit. The fact that Deacon looks just like his dad from the early days & he has a great voice & handles the guitar like a pro. The Eagles did not disappoint any of their fans while playing 2 plus hours. Thank you for staying together & keeping the Music alive. Vince you did an amazing job filling some empty shoes, Don , Joe & Timothy & the rest of the band you are all true musicians. I grew up on your music & thankful you are continuing to tour!
Awesome night in the presence of pure music legends.
This was my 7th Eagles gig and 1st since the sad loss of Glen.
So it was a bit of a night of raw emotion but the tightness of the harmonies the exceptional vocal ability of all of the band including Vince gill stu Smith and doing his father proud Deavon Frey made it my most favourite Eagles gig.
And of course the madman who is Joe Walsh was again in cracking form with Don holding it all together along with Timothy.
Really was a night to remember 2 and a half hours of pure class you could reach out and touch the love in the room.
Magnificent opening with Seven Bridge Road that you know instantly that it will be a magnificent concert.
With an emotional contribution by Deacon Frey as a perfect replacement for his fatger, great voicr, great performsnce. Vince Gill is a good addition to the voices of the Eagles.
Joe Walsh is taking just enough space with some of his solo work, and shows that the Eagles bring more than just country rock.
A feast of almost all their hits, with Hotel California and Desperado as encores. Eagles as you expect to be.
We went home very pleased that we were part of this.
Outstanding show! They came on early so that they could do a 2 and a half hour long set. Plenty of the favourites from over the years. Glenn Frey's son was excellent as were the sets.
Not even the drunk old men behind me (that were under some illusion that not only could they sing but they could also mimic the sound of a guitar) were able to spoil the evening.
Sheryl Crow (the Support Act!) was also on top form.

The Eagles , one of the most successful and longest-running acts in the history of popular music, have announced the first of what they say are their “final” tour dates. After 52 years, more than a thousand concerts and over 150 million albums sold, the group has announced the initial 13 dates of their final farewell tour, beginning on Sept. 7 in New York, with more to be added.
According to the announcement, the Eagles — Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey — will perform “as many shows in each market as their audience demands.” The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

LOS ANGELES , July 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — After more than 50 years of touring, and consistently selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide, the Eagles announced today that their upcoming “The Long Goodbye” will be the band’s final tour.
Thirteen shows will be initially announced. The first set of dates will begin September 7, 2023 , in New York .
The Eagles’ long-time contemporaries and fellow Hall of Famers, Steely Dan, will be joining these historic shows and commemorating their own 50+ year career.
Presale tickets and VIP packages will be available starting Wednesday, July 12 for all announced shows. The general on-sale will start Friday, July 14 at 10:00 AM local time.
During “The Long Goodbye,” the Eagles – Don Henley , Joe Walsh , Timothy B. Schmit , with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour is expected to continue into 2025.
Over the band’s more than 50 years of touring, the Eagles have performed more than 1,000 concerts around the world, accounting for more than 15 million tickets. Eagles’ tours have consistently ranked in the Top 10 of both concert industry publications, Billboard and Pollstar .
In the Fall of 1971, the Eagles formed, pioneered, and personified a uniquely American musical style blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities, and would go onto become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time. In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons.
The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. They earned six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their very first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.
The band’s Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum. Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and earned two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid In Town” and “Hotel California.”

The Eagles announce the first batch of dates for their final ever tour, with Steely Dan in support
The Eagles have announced that they will be heading out on their final tour this year.
The Long Goodbye farewell tour will kick off on September 7 in New York, and continue on through to Boston, Newark, Belmont Park, Denver and more.
While the trek is currently comprised of just 13 dates, the legendary rock band vow to perform "as many shows in each market as their audience demands" and added that “scheduling information will be released as dates are set.”
Joining the Eagles on the road will be Steely Dan , performing as special guest.
In a statement, the LA band declare: “The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds.
“Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful.”
They continue: “Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed,” the statement continued. “But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle.

After more than half a century of crisscrossing the globe to spread the warm smell of colitas, the Eagles have announced the dates for their final tour . Dubbed “The Long Goodbye,” the trek will feature fellow Rock and Roll Hall of famers Steely Dan opening up the shows, which are slated to kick off Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” read a statement from the group. “Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful.”

But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle,” the band continued in its announcement, noting that the farewell run is still in the planning stages, with more dates to be announced at a later time. “We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round… The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”
For the six new dates added between Jan. 19 and March 13 next year, pre-sale starts on Wednesday, Nov. 1, and general on-sale is Friday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. local time.

The Eagles Announce ‘The Long Goodbye’ Farewell Tour Dates, Steely Dan to Support
The Eagles have just announced a series of 2023 tour dates, the first on their The Long Goodbye farewell tour. Fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act Steely Dan have been tabbed as support for the fall run.
Much like Deep Purple 's own The Long Goodbye tour, the trek does not have a set end date, though The Eagles are expected to be on the road through 2025 and will "perform as many shows in each marker at their audience demands," per a press release.
The band is currently comprised of Don Henley , Joe Walsh , Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill and Deacon Frey.
The first batch of dates features a total of 13 stops between Sept. 7 and Nov. 17, all of which can be seen further down the page.

The Eagles have announced they will be embarking on an “official farewell tour”, rounding out a “miraculous 52-year odyssey”.
With five No 1 singles, six No 1 albums, and six Grammy Awards, the five-piece rock band, formed in 1971, are considered one of the most successful and longest-running acts in popular music history.
Now, after having performed over a thousand concerts during a career spanning more than five-decades, the “Hotel California” rockers – Dan Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will embark on their “swan song”.
“The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round. So, scheduling information will be released as dates are set. The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up,” the group said in a Thursday (7 July) statement, shared with Variety .

Joined by longtime friends and fellow rock group Steely Dan , the Eagles will kick off the tour at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on 7 September. The tour is expected to continue into 2025. Find the initial 13 dates and locations below.
Pre-sale tickets and VIP packages will go on sale on Wednesday (12 July) for all of the announced dates, followed by the general sale on Friday (14 July) at 10am local time.

The Eagles are coming to the British Summer Time festival at Hyde Park in London as part of their 50th anniversary tour next year.
American rockers, the Eagles, will perform for fans on June 26, 2022 and tickets are set to go on sale on Friday, November 5.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, the Eagles had five number-one singles and six number-one albums, six Grammy Awards and five American Music Awards, and were one of the most successful musical acts of the 1970s in North America.
Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will return to the UK, bringing their highly anticipated and critically acclaimed tour to the American Express presents BST Hyde Park for the first time.
The rockers will be joined by very special guests Robert Plant and Alison Krauss .
This will be a day of Eagles classics spanning across their career, including hits Hotel California, One of These Nights, Life in the Fast Lane and Desperado.
Hyde Park is final stop off on the European tour, which includes Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium, Edinburgh’s BT Murrayfield Stadium and Dublin’s Aviva Stadium before closing at London’s BST Hyde Park.
And, that's not all.
Eagles joins legendary line up for next year - Elton John (Friday 24 June - Sold Out), Pearl Jam (8 July + 9 July) and Duran Duran (10 July) & of course Adele (1 & 2 July) announced this week.

Listening to your favorite musician at home is fun, but there's nothing quite like the experience of singing along with them, and tons of more fans, live. And as luck would have it, 2024 is shaping up to be a massive year for some of the world's top musical acts, so chances are your favorite performer might be stopping at a city near you soon.
Ahead, we rounded up some of the biggest concert tours of 2024, ranging from Taylor Swift's mega-popular Eras Tour to Drake and J. Cole's exciting It's All A Blur Tour - Big as the What?—set to kick off this winter. You can also expect tour dates from classic icons like Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and more.
1) Taylor Swift
Undoubtedly one of the biggest concert tours ever, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour will continue right through 2024. The international leg of the tour kicked off in Japan, where she played four shows in Tokyo. She'll also stop in Melbourne, Singapore, Paris, Madrid, London, Milan, and more before returning to the States to play in the fall.
There's nothing like seeing T. Swift IRL, but don't fret if you're unable to nab tickets—the Eras Tour movie is now available to stream from the comfort of your home.
2) Olivia Rodrigo
This is not a drill—"Drivers License" singer Olivia Rodrigo will be hitting the road on tour starting at the end of February. The Guts World Tour runs from February through mid-August and has dates in Nashville, Toronto, Chicago, and New York City, among others. Even cooler? Rodrigo will have a stacked list of special guests—like PinkPantheress, Remi Wolf, The Breeders, and Chappell Roan—with her.
3) Red Hot Chili Peppers
Did you hear the good news? The Red Hot Chili Peppers have extended their global tour through summer 2024. The buzzy stadium tour, which kicked off in June 2022, will now run until July 2024 and bring the California-based band to places like Los Angeles, Tampa, Toronto, and Salt Lake City.
4) Bad Bunny
It's fitting that "Monaco" rapper Bad Bunny titled his tour Most Wanted —it's slated to be one of the year's hottest tours. Planned to help promote his latest studio album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana , Most Wanted will kick off in Salt Lake City on February 21 and run through May 26.
5) Billy Joel
If you haven't yet seen Billy Joel perform live, there's still time! The Piano Man has added more tour dates to his schedule, stopping in cities like Tampa, New York, Denver, and St. Louis this year. Even more exciting? He'll share the stage with fellow iconic performers Sting and Stevie Nicks for some of these dates.
Mitski recently announced that she's expanding her North American tour dates , and we couldn't be more excited. The months-long tour, which supports her 2023 studio album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, has a long list of stops, including Miami Beach, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Paris.
There's nothing quite like a Madonna concert, that's for sure. The singer's Celebration Tour , which started last October, continues straight through the spring with dates in Seattle, San Francisco, Mexico City, and more. Besides her eye-catching sets, chart-topping songs, and impressive choreography, concertgoers also get a glimpse of the performer's fantastic costumes, which include looks from Versace and Jean Paul Gaultier.
8) Bleachers
The New Jersey-founded rock band, which is fronted by Jack Antonoff—known for producing albums for top acts like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey—not only has announced a new album but a new tour , too. The tour will start in the UK in March, ending fittingly in the band's home state of New Jersey in mid-June. 9) Nicki Minaj
Nicki fans rejoice: the rapper and singer might be coming to a city near you soon as part of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour. The massive tour will include performances in Brooklyn, Oakland, and Baltimore, with stops at Dreamville Festival and Rolling Loud California along the way.
10) Blink 182
Live out all of your nineties and early aughts pop-punk dreams with one of Blink 182's One More Time Tour dates. The tour, which supports the band's ninth studio album, One More Time..., will bring the trio to cities all over the globe, including Sydney, Santiago, Portland, and Boston. The tour's supporting act is Pierce the Veil, which is also worth checking out.
11) Stevie Nicks
The oh-so-magical Stevie Nicks continues her touring streak with a bunch of 2024 concert dates . Set to begin in Atlantic City, NJ on February 10, Nicks will visit a dozen cities throughout the U.S. this year, such as New Orleans, Omaha, and Chicago. "Let's keep this party going in 2024," the singer-songwriter posted on her Instagram in September to announce the newly added tour dates.
12) The 1975
The 1975 is showing no signs of slowing down. The British band, famous for hits like "Somebody Else" and "Robbers," has extended their 2023 tour through 2024. Titled Still...At Their Very Best , the 22-date tour will open in Glasgow on February 8 and conclude in Amsterdam on March 24.
13) Drake and J. Cole
Rap greats Drake and J. Cole come together for the It's All a Blur Tour – Big As the What? which is guaranteed to be a good time. Drake, fresh off his 2023 It's All a Blur tour with 21 Savage, is set to hit dozens of cities starting in February, many of which J. Cole will also be in tow for. Scoop up tickets ASAP, as Drake's shows are known to sell out.
14) Janet Jackson
Superstar Janet Jackson is also extending her 2023 tour, Together Again , into 2024 with dates in Anaheim, Austin, New Orleans, and Hartford. Even cooler? Jackson's supporting act is the 2000s southern rap legend Nelly.
15) Rolling Stones
If you've ever dreamed of seeing the Rolling Stones perform live in person, now's your chance. The iconic rockers, who released their studio album Hackney Diamonds this past fall, are returning on the road for a 16-date tour with shows throughout the United States and Canada. Concertgoers can expect a mix of new tunes and Stones classics.
16) Bruce Springsteen
Famous for countless listenable hits like "Born to Run" and "Glory Days," Bruce Springsteen is set to embark on a massive world tour this year with his band, The E Street Band. The much-anticipated tour will take the Boss and his crew to cities such as Phoenix, San Diego, Dublin, and Madrid, from March through November.
17) John Mayer
Be sure to catch John Mayer's solo tour this year, which will bring the guitarist and crooner to cities throughout Europe. This leg, an extension of his popular 2023 solo tour, will kick off in Stockholm on March 13 and finish in Dublin on March 29.
18) Shania Twain
Okay, this one is technically a residency , but we're excited nonetheless. Shania Twain, most known for her incredible outfits (her hooded leopard print look, anyone?) and hits like "Man! Most detailed bird evolutionary tree reveals new and surprising relationships
Researchers have created the most detailed evolutionary tree of birds to date.
It proposes an entirely new group of birds that connects the smallest flying birds to the largest, as well as showing in finer detail how birds diversified rapidly after the extinction of the dinosaurs.
The smallest flying birds might be more closely related to the largest than previously thought.
A new genetic analysis of all the families of birds has found that hummingbirds and albatrosses form part of an entirely new group of birds, whilst it has also revealed that as opposed to other studies the eagles and owls are actually each other’s closest relatives.
The researchers have used the genetic information from 363 species of birds covering 92% of all bird families to piece together an immense family tree. This is the most complete, highest-resolution evolutionary tree for birds created to date.
Professor Guojie Zhang is a professor on evolutionary biology at Zhejiang University and senior author of this research. He says, “the amount of data is vastly increased from before, with exceptionally wide taxonomic coverage and detailed genomic sequence information.”
“Eventually we want to obtain sequence data on all living species of birds. The combination of genomic, ecological and behavioural data from thousands of bird species will be essential for combating diseases like avian influenza, and they will be a treasure trove for conserving birds worldwide.”

The research is part of the Bird 10,000 Genomes (B10K) Consortium , which aims to sequence the genomes of every single species of bird. The study was led by Zhang together with Assistant Professor Josefin Stiller from the University of Copenhagen and Associate Professor Siavash Mirarab from the University of California, San Diego, and has been published in the journal Nature .
In the wake of the dinosaurs
Birds are an extraordinarily diverse group of animals. They can be found on every single continent, living in environments ranging from the driest desert to the wettest rainforest.
Within these habitats, they have further diversified to exploit a massive number of different niches. There are birds that dive hundreds of metres beneath the waves for fish, some which crack the hardest of nuts, and those that have evolved in tight association with plants that provide their high-sugar nectar. Others still have specialised in eating other birds, or cleaning up the carcasses left behind by larger mammals.
While the general relationships between birds, and those between species within specific groups, have been fairly well studied and understood, where exactly many groups of birds sit with relation to each other has been surprisingly difficult to figure out.
For example, the curious hoatzin is a species of bird found living along the banks of the Amazon River. It is so evolutionarily distinct, living entirely on a diet of leaves and producing chicks that still retain a claw on their wings, that it forms its own distinct group which scientists have long struggled to place. It is so unusual, the hoatzin doesn’t seem to be obviously related to any other group of birds.

This is because there is a point in time when there was a flash of evolution within birds, a flurry of diversification at about the same time as when the asteroid that wiped out their dinosaur cousins hit. But even then, there has still been a debate as to whether this burst of evolution occurred before or after the dinosaur extinction event.
The much improved precision in dating from this new paper seems to have finally settled this.
Dr Martin Stervander is the Senior Curator of Birds at National Museums Scotland, and a Scientific Associate at the Natural History Museum.
“The cool thing with the dating is that we can actually show that almost all of that diversification happened after the meteorite,” explains Martin, who was involved in this latest paper. “It looks like almost all of the diversification happened when a lot of the competitors for niches and space were wiped out, but our lovely winged friends survived.”
This period of extremely rapid evolution, as the birds moved into new environments and niches left vacant by the dinosaurs, is the reason why it has been hard for biologists to tease out which groups – such as the hoatzin – are most closely related to each other.
But the input of vast amounts of genetic data from right across the range of bird families is finally starting to reveal some of these relationships. One of the biggest changes is the creation of an entirely new group of birds.
Meet the elemental birds
The research has found that a seemingly diverse group of birds actually cluster together in one new group.
This includes many species you might expect to be related, such as pelicans, penguins and albatrosses , but also a whole bunch of other perhaps more unusual species, including the swifts, hummingbirds and those pesky hoatzins. It is the surprisingly diverse lifestyles of these birds – including the smallest and largest flying birds – that gave inspiration to their new name.

“We named this new group Elementaves ,” explains Martin. “This is because the birds within this group have diversified into aquatic, terrestrial, and aerial niches – including some of our most impressive specialists like penguins and swifts – corresponding to the classical elements of water, earth, and wind.”
“But what about fire? Well, sunbittern and tropicbirds of Phaetontimorphae have names derived from the sun, which is a big ball of fire.”
The other perhaps logical – but no less surprising – reshuffling from the paper involved the eagles and owls. Despite having similar lifestyles and adaptations, albeit working different shifts, the birds have traditionally these have been placed in separate branches of the family tree. They have now been brought together.
“Another new finding is that diurnal raptors like eagles and buzzards indeed make up the sister lineage to owls, the raptors of the night,” says Martin.
Whilst this latest work has produced the most detailed bird evolutionary tree to date, that’s not to say it won’t change again. The B10K project aims to sequence the genomes of every single species of bird, and there is no saying how this might reveal yet more surprises in the evolution of birds.
