Chitwan Jungle Safari: Everything you need to know

National Parks in Nepal / March 25, 2020 by fulltimeexplorer / 2 Comments

Over a year ago, I visited Chitwan National Park in monsoon season. I wanted to do the Chitwan jungle safari but mother nature had other plans. It rained for days straight and the rivers were so flooded that we couldn’t get into the national park. When I found out my mom would be in Nepal with me, I knew I wanted to try to do the safari again. With the perfect excuse to go, we set off to see some of the famous wild animals in Chitwan National Park. Here’s everything you need to know to plan your trip.

The best time to visit Chitwan National Park

It’s best to visit Chitwan National Park in the dry season which is typically December through March. In the winter (Dec, Jan, Feb) it may be a little cold with heavy fogs in the morning. In February they burn the tall elephant grass in the jungle so that it can regrow. March is considered a good time to see the endangered animals in the park, however its peak season so you may see a lot more jeeps going through the park which could scare the animals away. We went towards the end of February. The weather was nice. There were no crowds. We did see a one horned rhino, gharial crocodile, and ghar. We didn’t see a tiger, but that’s not guaranteed any time of year.

How to get to Chitwan National Park

You can access Chitwan by road from Kathmandu, Pokhara or Lumbini. Tourist buses go from each of these points. It takes about 6-8 hours depending on traffic from Pokhara and Kathmandu while Lumbini is a bit closer. You can read my guide on taking the bus from Kathmandu to Chitwan . You can also fly into the Bharatpur Airport if you are on a time crunch. Buses cost around $8-$10 USD and you can book them online along with car service.

Where to stay

Extravagant Luxury: The ultimate luxury accommodation in Chitwan is Meghauli Serai Chitwan National Park . It sits along the river and has an amazing infinity pool. With rooms ranging from $300 – $1000 a night, there’s no expense spared on your comfort.

Luxury: Barahi Jungle Lodge is perfect for those with a good budget who want to enjoy all the luxuries Nepal has to offer. Situated on the river, it has an incredible pool, traditional rooms and a natural vibe that will make you feel at one with nature. Prices range from $200 – $350 USD

Ethical : Tiger Tops Elephant Camp is the perfect option for those who want an ethical stay in Chitwan. They rescue elephants and have an elephant experience that doesn’t include riding the elephants or doing anything harmful to them. A night at the camp, which is like glamping costs between $100 and $120 per person. The nice thing is that you know the money is going towards care for the retired elephants.

Comfort: If you want to travel in style without going over the top then Chitwan Paradise is a great option. Rooms range from $50 – $100 USD. Rooms are simple but clean, and there’s a lovely pool on the grounds.

Budget: Chitwan offers a lot of budget friendly accommodations. If you want a cheap but private room, then I recommend Wild Horizons Guest House which has rooms ranging from $12-$20. They all have a private bathroom and include breakfast. We stayed there for two nights and really enjoyed our stay. It’s very close to town and sunset point.

Elephant, Walking or Jeep Safari?

Elephant safari.

There are three main options for the jungle safari in Chitwan. I advise against the elephant safari as it is extremely cruel to the animals. If you’d like to learn more about how to see elephants in Chitwan in an ethical way where the elephants are not tortured, you can read my post on visiting elephants in Chitwan. If you are unaware of how elephants are trained, I recommend researching it before choosing this option. Elephants are taken at a young age and are tortured for weeks to a month until the trainer has broken the animals. After the elephant has been broken, they begin to train it for riding. From then on it is tightly chained and kept in a small shelter unless it is being used for a ride. It’s beyond cruel.

Walking Safari

The walking safari is a great budget friendly option since you don’t need to pay for a jeep. You do need two guides (required by law) and an entry permit. I enjoyed our one hour walk in the jungle, but half of our group was stressed out and uneasy about it. We heard an elephant in the distance and it didn’t sound happy. The area is famous for Ronaldo the elephant who has killed about 50 people. This freaked everyone out so we headed back out of the jungle. The noise turned out to be one of the elephants at the breeding center giving birth. The benefit of walking is that you are quieter than a car and are more likely to see rare animals up close.

Jeep Safari

The jeep safari is a great option for anyone. It requires little walking, is comfortable, and allows you to cover a lot of area quickly. We were able to see a greater one horned rhino, a wild boar, peacocks (doing a mating dance), crocodiles, monkeys, ghar, as well as a ton of exotic birds. The downfall is that the jeeps make noise and you have to stick to the well-traveled road. This makes it much harder to see animals like a tiger.

Half Day, Full Day or Multiple Days?

Half day safari.

We opted for a half day because it was economical and we were only in Chitwan for one day. We wanted to experience a few different things rather than spending the entire day on safari. I liked this option because I tend to get bored easily. I’d rather try a few things and see less animals than sit still waiting for a tiger. The half day tour is typically 4 hours long.

Full Day Safari

The full day Chitwan jungle safari is a great option for people who are eager to see specific animals. Technically, we did a full day in the park between the safari, canoeing, and hiking which was nice and allowed us to see a lot. A full day jeep safari seemed like too much for me. Basically, the jeep will stop and wait for animals whereas on the half day trip, you drive unless you see something. You only stop if you spot an animal.

Multiple Day Safari

If you really really want to see a tiger, then you’ll likely need to a do a multiple day safari. Even then, it is not guaranteed. I would get bored on a jeep for that long, but a walking safari that was multiple days could be cool. Make sure to ask about the overnight in the jungle where you sleep at a camp inside Chitwan rather than leaving and staying at a hotel overnight.

Picking a Tour Company

On my first visit to Chitwan National Park, I went to every tour operator I could find in town. It took a few hours and by the end, I’d narrowed it down from 50 to 2. While every tour operator told me what I should do, only two listened to what I wanted and offered interesting options for good prices. The rest tried to push the most expensive option my way with little consideration about what I was asking for. I ended up going with Wildlife Encounters the first time, and was happy to hire them again on my second visit. I highly recommend them. They are a small family owned business run by great people who care about their clients.

Chitwan National Park Entry Fee

For foreigners, the park permit costs 2,000 rupees per person (a little less than $20 USD each). For local Nepalese, it costs 150 rupees per person.

Chitwan National Park Safari Cost

Prices vary a lot based on the company you choose to go with, what the tour includes, and how many people are on the tour. We were a group of 5. For a half day private jeep tour (4 hours), canoeing (30 mins), and a jungle walk (2 hours) we paid about $60 USD each including everything except the tips and food. The permit to Chitwan National Park is about $20 USD each, so the jeep, guides, etc. only cost about $30 USD per person. If you join another group instead of a private tour, you can save some money (about $11 USD each) as you are splitting the price of the jeep more ways. If you go with less people, it will cost more. Fancier tours or full day jeep tours may cost closer to $100 per person depending on the tour.

Who should you tip and how much…

Typically, you’ll have one main guide who is with you the entire day. This guide should get 10% of the trip total. We had an assistant guide (on the walk) and a jeep driver (in the park) who each got 5%. We also gave the man who rowed our canoe a small tip. All in, we tipped about $50 USD between 5 of us for the entire day (about $10 USD each).

Want to know more? Check out my post about tipping in Nepal .

What to wear on a Chitwan Jungle Safari…

It’s important to wear colors that can camouflage into your surroundings. Avoid bright colors like red, white, yellow, etc. Choose blacks, browns, grays, tan. This is for two reasons. One, you don’t want an animal to see you and get scared and run away. Two, you don’t want an animal to see you and attack. It’s best if you blend in.

If you plan to leave early in the morning before the sun rises or in the winter, you’ll want to wear a lot of layers. The jeeps are open and when they are on the move it gets windy and cold. A wind breaker and a warm hat are a must. During monsoon it can rain for days. Make sure to have a really good raincoat. Even with a raincoat you may get soaked. Always have sunscreen with you as the sun can get very hot in the afternoon. I prefer a solid sunscreen which can be packed in a carryon. A sun hat is also a good idea. I also recommend a natural bug spray in the warmer months.

What to bring with you on a safari…

You’ll want to have a bottle of water per person, sunscreen, bug repellent, and a camera with a good zoom lens. You can ask your guide to bring binoculars as well. A lot of times the animals are far away and hard to see.

Additional activities in the park

Gharial crocodile breeding center.

During the safari, you can stop at the Gharial Breeding Center which is working hard to breed endangered crocodiles. My only complaint about the center is that no one is there to give you a proper tour and answer questions. Other than that, it was a unique and interesting experience. You can see the crocodiles at all different stages up close. I love this part of the park because these crocs will be released back into the park when they are old enough.

Elephant Breeding Center

I have mixed feelings about the Elephant Breeding Center. It’s important to know that these elephants are not being bred to be released into the wild. They are bred and then trained. The males are used to patrol the park. If you look at the cup half full, this effort is said to be the reason that there are no poachers in Chitwan. The females are used to breed more elephants. What I hate is that they are all tightly chained. The male elephants are kept standing where they can’t even step more than a foot in any direction. To me it’s barbaric, so I have decided not to visit the center or support it.

Canoeing is an amazing way to see crocodiles and birds up close in a beautiful and peaceful setting. The canoes are a bit adventurous as they are hand carved out of a single tree and are very wobbly. I decided not to take my good camera in case we flipped over. It was an amazing experience. The ride lasts about 30 mins. Most people go on the main river, but our tour company recommended a less traveled river which was more beautiful. I recommend going on the Budi Rapti River.

Hi Michelle, Thank you for the great guides and emails. My wife and I are just back from Nepal and we found your information invaluable before and during our trip. Trekking in Nepal during the Winter was wonderful but challenging so we chose to leave the mountains a week earlier than originally planned and went to Chitwan. Great idea! We can highly recommend the River View Jungle Lodge and Nepal Dynamic Eco Tours, we went on a full day canoe and walking safari from one and a full day jeep safari from the other. Both were great experiences with wonderful guides but you’re right, a full day seems long. The canoe felt tippy but the man rowing it definitely knew what he was doing. Relax and enjoy the ride. I brought away an unexpected souvenir: a tick, which I had removed in Kathmandu. I recommend using insect repellent but also giving yourself a good looking over after your jungle visit.

Thanks so much Carlos! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed your time, and I hope you made it back home safely before flights shut down. And good pointer about the bug repellent. I’ve gotten a lot of leech bites in Nepal but never a tick! An interesting souvenir to say the least haha

Furthermore, we are animal lover that respects animals so we never use Elephant back safari as it is against animal rights. Hence, we advise to use jeep safari in the National Park instead of Elephant safari that provides an opportunity to get a closer view of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. Moreover, Park Entrance fee are depending upon the nationality you are traveling to.

Overall, a Chitwan jungle safari tour is an unforgettable experience that offers a unique insight into Nepal’s incredible natural beauty and wildlife and culture. It is a must-do for anyone visiting the region.

Best time to visit chitwan for a 2 nights 3 days jungle safari tour.

The best time to visit Chitwan for a jungle safari tour is during the winter season, which runs from October to March. During this time, the weather is dry, and the temperature is mild, making it ideal for wildlife viewing and exploring the national park.

The monsoon season in Chitwan, which runs from June to September, can make the jungle safari experience challenging due to heavy rainfall and flooded areas. Likewise, the summer season, from April to June, can be hot and humid, which can also make wildlife sightings more difficult.

Therefore, if you want to experience the best of Chitwan’s wildlife and natural beauty, plan your visit between October and March. However, it’s important to note that the park can be crowded during peak tourist season, so make sure to book your accommodations and tours in advance.

2 Nights 3 Days Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour Review

Gokyo lakes + chitwan safari wonderful.

We have just returned back home from Nepal, where we trekked the Gokyo Lake and back over Renjo la pass for 10 days. When we arrived in Kathmandu, we were warmly welcomed by Ammar and his family where we stayed for a few nights.

Also, when the flight was cancelled, Ammar suggested us to go to the Chitwan National Park first (which we planned at the end), and it was a very good choice, because when we came back the weather was good again. So while other travelers would transfer from hotel to the airport and back, we enjoyed the wild life 🙂 .

Our guide was also very nice and like a friend who is travelling with us. 🙂 and since we weren’t in a big group we could change our trekk to the other side of Renjo La Pass, but hiking the same way down… we had a wonderful time and are very satisfied

Wonderful park to explore wildlife, have booked for 2 night 3 days package trip with Gokyo agency. There are a lot of crowds during the high season, especially in October / November and March / April.

Luckily, we were in early March, very less tourist in the park, and was in the hotel. We did a jeep safari which was amazing. There is so much more to this park than you would think!

Nepal Wildlife Safari Tours

Remarkable wildlife Excursions at Chitwan National Park

Our group’s tour in Chitwan National Park went mind-blowing, and all thanks go to the team of Boundless Adventure. My four friends and I are glad to have Boundless Adventure for our tour as they provided us with the best quality service and value. The team assured us they would manage everything on our behalf and gladly fulfilled their promise. Our tour begins with a thrilling jungle safari. We had an option for jungle safari on an elephant’s back or in a jeep; as we wanted to experience every moment together, we chose jeep safari. We see various rare flora and fauna during Jeep Safari, providing a unique opportunity. Then we went canoeing in the Rapti River. During canoeing, we caught sight of crocodiles and unique birds on the bank of the river. Then, we moved to the elephant breeding center. In the evening, we enjoyed the Tharu cultural program. Our tour to Chitwan National Park concluded with bird watching in the early morning of the next day. We highly recommend Boundless Adventure for anyone desiring to tour Chitwan National Park.

Chitwan Jungle Safari

Once-in-a-lifetime experience with Boundless Adventure

Our family had a wonderful time on the Chitwan National Park tour for three days. Each family member loves to explore nature and wildlife; thus, I booked Chitwan National Park through Boundless Adventure on the Internet. I chose Jeep as our transportation to make my family members more pleasant and comfortable to drive. Boundless Adventure and its members took care of our family throughout our journey. We participated in a jungle safari, canoeing, bird watching, and visiting elephant breeding centers and Tharu communities. The tour was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that took us close to different endangered animals. We are delighted with Boundless Adventure’s service and have decided to look no further while visiting Nepal.

Kathmandu Pokhara Chitwan Lumbini Tour

Tour of Chitwan National park as a wildlife Lover

As a wildlife enthusiast, I visited Chitwan National Park last March. Everything in March was perfect, and Boundless Adventure made the tour even more remarkable. I had a three-day and two-night stay in Chitwan, and I’ll never forget the memories I created on that tour. The biodiversity of Chitwan National Park was astounding. I did a jungle safari by riding on the back of an Elephant, and I was fortunate to see some rare species, including the One-horned rhinoceros, Gaur, the Royal Bengal tiger, and many others. Beyond immersing in the unique biodiversity, I got to experience the Tharu culture during my tour. I highly recommend Boundless Adventure to anyone planning a tour of Chitwan National Park.

Useful Information: We will provide you with detailed information about the trekking, trekking trail etc for simplifying your expedition. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require more information or have any queries we would be more than happy to provide you with all the information you are seeking from us.

When to go (Best Season to Travel) September-November and March-May are the best season for the mostly trekking regions in Nepal. The weather during the season is sunny and warm during the day that offers you to enjoy the magnificent view of the Himalayan range whereas the nights are chilling and cold and can fall to freezing in the higher elevations. During the month of December-February is not ideal for trek due to the cold weather. Trekking during summer will be affected by rain but summer trek could be a boon of a keen botanist. The trekking routes are always busy with trekkers during September-November and March-May and the routes are not packed and crowded and you can have a great journey enjoying the scenic views in the months of December-February.

Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is highly recommended for trekkers who plan their trekking in the Himalayas. Travel insurance is mandatory while going for trekking, hiking etc in Nepal. Please make sure that your insurance policy covers personal injury, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, helicopter rescue, loss of luggage, etc. We strongly recommend that your policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Please check with your insurance company that adventure activities and trekking above 3000m are covered by your policy. You must carry proof of insurance (i.e. your insurance certificate) with you during your expedition.

Meals and Accommodation: We will arrange three or four star hotel for your accommodation (Upgradeable upon request) in Kathmandu. During the trek we provide the best available guest house which is called Tea house/Lodge. Tea Houses are like hotels that serve with hot showers, western foods and private rooms (twin sharing). Some guest houses are ordinary guest house with shared washing and toilet facilities and comparatively cheap in price. If you are traveling in a group, you will share a room with one of the group member with same sex. If you wish to stay single in a room then you have to let us know in advance and some surcharges are applicable in such case. Please be noted that there are several guest houses that do not allow a single accommodation during the peak season so sharing the room with somebody becomes a compulsion. We will arrange your dinner and early breakfast in the guest house itself but the lunches will be arranged in some restaurants en route. Your stay at a local guest house helps you to be more familiar with local culture and traditions. Pathfinder Expeditions is highly concerned about the standard of food and make sure that sufficient food is provided to our guest. A special menu will be offered so that you could choose the kind of food you like to eat. A cup of tea or coffee would be included in your meal menu. Our guide will always be there to assist you while choosing the food from the menu. The menu comes with comparatively high price due to the availability of food items and spices and extreme locations. Most of the tea houses serve you with delicious local cuisines along with international foods. You can get food items like biscuits, chocolates, cold drinks, soft drinks and seasonal fruits and veggies. Bottled water is always available in the tea house and restaurants or shops en route. You may ask your guide to fill the bottle with boiled water from the lodges and purify them with purification pills.

Fitness and Experience Required: Most of the trekking required some walking experience and that suitable for passionate trekkers who have the ability to walk at least four to six hours a day. Some days you might even need to walk seven to eight hours. Walking in higher altitude is rather challenging and it requires a lot of physical caliber. A good physique, positive altitude, self confidence and strong determination are the keys to success to successfully accomplish for the trek. Prior preparation like walking or jogging few hours a day before starting your trek is beneficial and it simplifies your expedition. Past hiking experience would be an asset but not mandatory for any trekking. Participants with chronic illness, physical disorder, heart, blood and respiratory disease are strongly advised to inform Pathfinder Expeditions before booking the trek. Consultation with a medical professional is highly recommended before starting your trekking in Nepal Himalayas.

Trekking Group: We allocate one guide, an assistant guide (6 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and porters for carrying the luggage. We make sure that the trek expedition will still go ahead as planned if any of the group members falls sick. We operate the trekking for any group size but generally a largest group consists of sixteen people. We also make customized group size as per your requirement.

Trekking Guides and Staff: Trekking guides and staff plays a vital role in making a trek a successful one. We allocate trained, experienced, courteous and expert guide and crew members for every trekking endeavor. The staff and guide we deploy during the trekking have the utmost ability of operating your days in the mountains. The team will be lead by the best and professional guide from the industry. Our guide and are carefully selected on the basis of their experience, expertise, guiding skills and aptitude. We deploy the guides and crew member who are familiar with the local culture and community and geographical distribution. Trekking guides of Pathfinder Expeditions are trained with the following trainings so that to enhance their potentials on medical issues, biodiversity, environmental issues and English language proficiency.

  • Intensive Wilderness First Aid – KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Educational Project)
  • Trekking Guide Training – Nepal Government’s Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation department of Hotel Management and Tourism Training Centre of Nepal
  • Eco Trekking Workshop and Adventure Meet TAAN (Trekking Agents Association of Nepal)
  • English Language – KEEP(Kathmandu environment education project)
  • Conservation and Biodiversity TAAN
  • Rock, Ice Climbing and Mountaineering (Climbing leaders)
  • Our guides and porters know the routes and trails and are well aware of local culture and traditions.
  • Nepal Mountaineering Association Our trekking guides speak English (Some may have the potentials to speak other foreign language like French, Spanish etc) adequate enough for the smooth communication but please consider that English is not our mother tongue.

Acclimatization: Pathfinder Expeditions is planned with high degree of awareness about Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Trekking in the higher altitude too fast might cause a medical condition serious enough to cause death. The level of oxygen fluctuates as the height increases. For example, at an altitude above 5000m, there is 50% less oxygen than at sea level. Our body requires many days to adapt the less-oxygen environment so the itinerary should be planned accordingly. Our itinerary is planned in such a way that it provides sufficient time for acclimatization. Sensible trek plan is therefore very crucial to minimize the risk of AMS. Pathfinder Expeditions highly advises specially the guests with known heart, blood or respiratory diseases to consult their medical professional before traveling. Mild headaches, fever, loss of appetite or stomach disorder are symptoms of AMS. Our leaders are well trained to administer the AMS. Pathfinder Expeditions’ itineraries are designed to avert the risk of AMS as much as possible.

Safety and Security: We do not compromise on safety and security of our guests. We highly prioritize safety and security measures during the trek. We have to understand that there are certain risks while traveling in higher altitude which you should consider before booking. Our trip operators constantly monitor their areas of operation and trekking trail and they would cancel or re-route a trip if they feel any destination is unsafe to travel.

Foreign Travel: When traveling to a foreign country you need to do a bit of research beforehand. You should consult your G.P. or travel doctor to find out if you need any pre travel vaccinations. Your doctor cans also advice you on relevant medication to take and what will be available in the country you are traveling to. You should research the climate and conditions of the country you are traveling to and pack accordingly. It’s also important for you to be aware of the customs and religious beliefs of the local people. You should be aware of appropriate behavior and dress codes, not only is the respectful and responsible thing to do, but it could save you a lot of hassle and bother, especially for female travelers. Also if you are carrying medicine make sure you have the relevant prescriptions from your doctor. Drug trafficking is a major offence. You should never leave your bag unattended at any shipping port. Also you should familiarize yourself with the drug laws and regulations of the country you are traveling to. To make best your travel plans it is important for you to be aware of what to expect in the country you are traveling in. A little bit of education and knowledge goes a long way in making your holiday a successful and enjoyable affair. Pre researching your trip will take a lot of stress out of your travel.

Passport: Of course for travel you need a current passport; your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of your departure. Trying to renew your passport overseas can be a very difficult task and in fact most countries will not issue visa in passports that are about to expire. Also you should check vise requirements for the countries you are traveling; in some cases you can not get visas on arrival. As a guideline here is some information on visa relevant to this area. Also check that your airline tickets are in exactly the same name as your passport. Some countries may require that you have a return air ticket, or have sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket.

Visas: Australians, Americans, British and Canadians currently require a visa for. For all other nationalities please reconfirm your visa requirements with your travel agent.  We strongly recommend you apply for your visa prior to arrival in (there are consulates in many countries), although you can obtain a visa on arrival at Kathmandu Airport for $US30 for a Single Entry, and $US45 for a Double Entry. You must have US Dollars cash to the exact amount and one passport photo. Expect some delays in processing the visa application at the airport. Passengers then traveling to or (these trips start and finish in ) should obtain a Double Entry Nepal visa.

Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is highly recommended and is in fact compulsory should you be going trekking, rafting, paragliding etc. We require that, at a minimum, you are covered for medical expenses including emergency evacuation. Participants without adequate insurance cover will be asked to arrange cover immediately before commencing their holiday – this can be very difficult and expensive to arrange locally We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Please check with your insurance company that adventure activities and trekking above 3000 m are covered in your policy, as some companies do not cover such things. For Every Adventure trips your policy must cover evacuation by helicopter and repatriation. In the event of emergency evacuation, you are liable to the helicopter operating company and to Pathfinder Expeditions for both the helicopter operating company’s direct costs – which can amount to thousands of U.S. dollars – and also to Pathfinder Expeditions for an additional amount of 10 per cent, to cover Pathfinder Expeditions’ costs for organizing the evacuation. Passengers requiring emergency evacuation will be billed for the cost and required to pay prior to departing Kathmandu or the relevant point of exit. (You will need to take out additional higher risk coverage for Mountaineering and Expedition. )

Vaccinations:: As with traveling to any Asian country there are several precautions you should take before you depart on your trip. The below is only suggested precautions that you should take, we like to recommend that you consult with your travel doctor before you go traveling. The following vaccinations are advisable, but depend on the area that you are traveling and your length of stay.

  • Gamma Globulin or Havrix (against Hepatitis A)
  •  Hepatitis B

Important Stuff: When traveling of course you needs your passport and relevant visa. You should also make copies of these, one to bring with you and one to leave with family or friends. Keep these separate from your passport. Other things you should have copies of are insurance policy, birth certificate, a record of bank details and traveler’s cheque details. You should also have contact numbers for your bank and insurance company and your travel agent/ flight booking office.

Walking times: This itinerary is intended as a guide only. Local conditions and weather may necessitate variations to the program and can affect the availability of views and panoramas described. Be aware that all times stated are approximate and may vary with individual and group fitness, weather and track conditions.

Health and Medicine Heath is the most important fact that we have to take conscious about it. There are no specific health requirements for your trip, though we recommend a good fitness level so you get the most enjoyment out of your holiday. You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information about before you depart for your trip, they can inform you about vaccinations and things you may need to be aware of. We recommend that you carry a First Aid kit as well as any personal medical requirements. Please be aware that you may be in remote areas and away from medical facilities for some time during this trip, and for legal reasons our guides are prohibited from administering any type of drug including headache tablets, antibiotics, etc. Also you should make yourself familiar with altitude sickness if you are trekking above 3000m.

Environmental Issues: For the good of us all that live on this planet, the protection and conservation of the environment is the most important thing. When traveling and trekking in, you will at times be entering environmentally sensitive areas. We put environmental issues first, all of our treks and tours are arranged to give minimum impact to the environment. We encourage our guests to carry out litter and not use plastic water bottles. We also don’t use wood fires at our camp sites and also try not to use tea houses which do so, we prefer to stay in places that use gas and solar power. It’s the small things that we all do that can help to preserve the environment for the future generations of trekkers.

Traveling responsibly : We arrange all of our tours and treks to be sensitive to the environment and the local culture. We believe that it is very important when traveling to respect the customs and culture of the local people as well as preserve the environment for the future of tourism and our own good. We implement responsible travel by employing local guides and porters, supplying proper equipment, rightful wages and insurance for all our staff, promoting local awareness and respecting the privacy, culture and customs of the people who live in the areas that we are traveling. We do not encourage begging or that our clients give money to local children, instead we support schools and health centers in local communities and our clients can donate accordingly should they wish. We also look after the environment, while trekking we take out all our rubbish, we don’t encourage the use of plastic bottles, we use gas instead of fire wood and we provided adequate warm clothing and blankets so that we don’t need to use excess fuel for heating.

Both guides were very friendly with extra ordinary knowledge to find animals. It was amazing, superb. We were very lucky to see tiger just 100 mtr. away, uncomfortable rhinos, deers, moneys, boars, 2 kinds of crocodile, and many beautiful birds. The company provided lunch but didn’t ask if we were vegetarian so there was some meat and eggs that we gave to the guides. We didn’t realise we would have to carry lunch luckily we had space in the backpack. Take lots of your own water we carried 4 litres for 2 of us, it wasn’t enough it was so hot. Our guides were very informative but we felt like we delayed at some rest stops for too long and as a result we just missed seeing the tiger at the waterhole. Amazing to see so many rhino close up in the waterholes with their calves. It was so special seeing so many rhinos in their natural habitat and just watching them. Read more Written 22 May 2023

I communicated with Dipas and he arranged a tour that worked around my schedule, including airport pick up/drop off, meals, and lodging/home stays. I requested a strenuous hiking trek and Dipas delivered! We had 2 full days of walking, a Jeep safari day, and a 1/2 day of canoe trip (maybe 30min in the canoe) and short hiking. We didn't see a tiger, but saw just about everything else in the park! So many rhinos that I stopped taking pictures unless it was perfect (probably 50 rhinos), muggar crocs, gharials, gaurs (wild ox), multiple sloth bears including one with a baby on its back, mongoose, multiple boar, cobra, macaques, langurs, spotted deer, barking deer, army-owned elephants, and so many birds (rollers, storks, herons, fish eagles, kingfishers, etc.) Dipas and the other guide, Maya, were extra cautious about my safety the entire time and were incredibly knowledgeable about the animals, birds, and plants that we encountered. (That's not true of all guides in Nepal.) They were also genuinely fun people to spend 4 days with while trekking through the jungle. My suggestion is to let them know that you want to eat what they're eating (not American sandwiches) and you'll be in for some amazing trail food. I eat gluten free and had more than enough food every day (potatoes, curry, rice, eggs, etc.). Daily I saw people clearly envious of this solo female walking off into the brush with two guides all to herself. So book with Dipas and you won't regret it! Read more Written 3 May 2023

  • 21twizzle 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Wonderful Three-Day Safari Through Chitwan Highly recommend these guides. We organised a three-day walking, canoeing and jeep safari with Chitwan Tiger Guides and Mini-Library Service. Dipas tailored the tour to suit our requirements (mostly walking, with half day canoe and half day jeep, homestay accommodation). Our guides, Kumar and Maya, were friendly, good humoured and very knowledgeable about the nature of Chitwan. They were genuinely enthusiastic about helping us to see as much wildlife as possible, and identify all the birds with the help of the guidebook. We covered many miles on foot each day, traversing through the park from Sauraha to Maghauli. The homestays were basic but welcoming and provided good food and packed lunches. Didn’t see a tiger this time - will have to come back... Read more Written 25 March 2020
