According to the visa policy for Bahrain , citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are eligible to use the simply online system to apply for a few different types of eVisa , depending on their travel needs (purpose of visit, number of entries, length of stay desired).

If Britons only need a single entry into Bahrain, they can choose between the following options:

  • 2-week Visit eVisa
  • 3-month Visit eVisa

On the other hand, if UK nationals require multiple entries , they can choose between the following options:

  • Visit eVisa for multiple stays of up to 1 month each, over a validity period of 90 days
  • GCC Visitor eVisa for multiple stays of up to 1 month

This last option is available for UK citizens who hold legal residence in one of neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Activities British Visitors can Carry Out with the eVisa in Bahrain

British citizens can apply for the Bahrain eVisa for the following reasons for travel:

  • Business activities

UK nationals must note the eVisa does not allow them to carry out any professional activity (paid or otherwise). If they wish to pursue long-term employment or relocate to Bahrain, they must visit the Bahrain Embassy in London to obtain the relevant visa and permits.

Requirements for British Citizens for the Bahrain eVisa

Before initiating the application process to obtain the eVisa, we recommend reading through the visa requirements for Britons to travel to Bahrain.

The conditions for the Bahrain eVisa are simple to meet and standard for most international destinations. Applicants from the UK must confirm they comply with the following:

  • Have a valid British passport
  • Supply a digital image of the passport’s biographical page
  • Possess a bank card to pay the eVisa processing fee
  • Share proof of onward travel (return or onwards ticket)
  •  Provide an active email address for their eVisa request

The validity of the passport is essential for the eVisa approval. The UK passport must be valid for at least the total length of the visa’s validity and the length of the stay in Bahrain to ensure that the traveler can leave the country on the same passport.

It is advisable to have a passport that will be valid for at least 180 days from the arrival date in Bahrain. If your passport is due to expire sooner, you should renew it before applying for the Bahrain online visa for UK citizens.

For some types of eVisas, Brits must also provide accommodation reservations and proof of sufficient funds to cover their stay (stamped bank statement with a balance of at least BD300).

How to Apply for a Bahrain eVisa as a British National

The application process for the eVisa for Bahrain is available via an online questionnaire that usually takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Britons will be required to share the following personal information :

  • Date of birth
  • Country of birth
  • Purpose of visit
  • Email address
  • Telephone number

Applicants will also have to provide the following passport details :

  • Passport number
  • Passport issuing country
  • Passport expiration date

You can continue with the eVisa application by confirming your travel itinerary and uploading your passport’s biographical page . It is essential to ensure that the information you have provided is true and accurate. Any mistake or missing details could result in issues processing the eVisa request.

eVisa for British minors visiting Bahrain

British citizens planning a family holiday must note that any visitor over 7 years of age must reach the country with an approved eVisa.

However, if any traveling party includes children under 7 years of age and who share their passport with one of their parents or legal guardians, then they can be included in a joint application.

How Long Does It Take to Get the Bahrain eVisa from the UK?

British applicants usually receive their Bahrain eVisa within 5-8 business days . It is advisable to apply in good time before the trip to allow for busy periods.

All correspondence regarding the eVisa application, including confirmation of the approved visa, will be delivered to the email address provided by the British traveler.

You should print out a copy of the approved eVisa and keep it next to the travel documents before reaching Bahrain, since it will be required for inspection upon reaching the country.

Traveling to Bahrain with the eVisa from the UK

The easiest way to travel from the UK to Bahrain with the eVisa is by air. All types of eVisa may be used to enter the country at Bahrain International Airport .

All eVisas except GCC eVisas may also be used to enter Bahrain by land via the King Fahd Causeway.

Travelers from the United Kingdom must abide by the terms of their visa , including the date by which they must leave Bahrain. To spend longer in the country, simply leave temporarily, apply for a new eVisa, and then re-enter the Kingdom.

Can UK citizens get visa on arrival in Bahrain?

British travelers who make an impromptu journey to Bahrain and do not have time to apply for the eVisa may instead apply for a visa on arrival.

The Bahrain visa on arrival is not recommended for British nationals who have the opportunity to apply in advance. This is because you have to wait in an extra queue to apply at the border and this means spending a lot of unnecessary time waiting at immigration .

If the visa on arrival application is not approved because of missing paperwork or any other reason, you will not be allowed to enter Bahrain and will have to return home.

If you apply for the eVisa in advance , there is time to sort out any issues with the application and ensure you have an approved visa when you arrive. Brits with eVisas can clear immigration much faster than those applying for a visa on arrival. This is why the online visa is generally the preferred option.

Everything You Need To Know About Bahrain Visa

bahrain-visa-image

Earlier, citizens of Qatar too had visa exemption status, but now, they are not permitted to enter Bahrain without a visa.

When it comes to citizens of the United Kingdom, transit visas are not required to enter Bahrain, while traveling to a different destination. If British nationals wish to enter Bahrain for tourist, business, work and investment activities, they should obtain a visa prior to the arrival.

UK nationals are eligible to obtain a visa on arrival. However, travel experts suggest that it is always good to obtain a visa before boarding the flight, as authorities in Bahrain may phase out this privilege without any prior notice. If you are planning to opt for visa on arrival, you should enquire with your airline whether boarding is allowed without a visa, as these things are subject to change.

Depending on the purpose and nature of the foreign national’s visit, authorities of Bahrain have classified their visa into several types, and some of the most noted ones are mentioned below.

Bahrain tourist e-visa

As the name indicates, these visas are exclusively meant for tourism activities like sightseeing, and foreign nationals can obtain these visas via online. All the steps in this visa application procedure can be completed online, and there is no need to physically make your presence at the Bahrain embassy.

Please find below the necessary documents required to obtain a Bahrain tourist e-visa.

  • The UK national should submit the scanned copy of his or her passport. Please note that this copy of the passport is duly signed, and it has a minimum validity of six months.

Note: The validity of a multiple entry Bahrain tourist e-visa is one month and one year. If you are opting for a multiple entry visa with a validity of one month, you can stay inside Bahrain for a maximum period of 30 days. If you have chosen a multiple entry Bahrain tourist e-visa with a validity of one year, it is possible to stay inside the country for 90 days. The validity of a single-entry visa is 14 days. Please note that Bahrain visas will be valid from the date of issue.

Bahrain business e-visa

Business e-visas allow citizens of the United Kingdom to obtain electronic travel authorization without visiting the embassy of Bahrain.

In order to get these visas, foreign nationals should submit the documents mentioned below.

  • The applicant should submit a clear, signed scanned copy of his or her passport. Please note that the passport has sufficient validity, and in the information page, all details of the applicant should be very clear and visible.
  • The traveler should submit proof of onward and return flight tickets.
  • The applicant can also submit recently issued three months’ bank statement.

Bahrain offers both single entry and multiple entry business visas to foreign nationals. Single entry business visas are valid for just 14 days. Multiple entry business visas have a validity of one month and one year. If you have opted for a one-month valid multiple entry visa, you can stay inside Bahrain for 30 days. One-year valid Bahrain visa allows foreign nationals to stay inside the country for a maximum period of 90 days.

Bahrain tourist visa

As the name clearly points out, these visas are issued to foreign nationals who are planning to enter Bahrain for tourist related activities.

In order to get these visas, foreign nationals are supposed to submit the documents mentioned below.

  • The original signed copy of the passport should be submitted. Please note that the passport of the applicant should have a validity of six months, and it should also have two blank pages for stamping procedure.
  • One recent passport-sized photograph of the applicant should be submitted. Please note that this photograph is taken within the last three months in a white background. It should be also noted that the traveler has maintained a neutral facial expression in this photograph.
  • The applicant is supposed to submit last three month’s bank statement. The bank statement is being submitted to prove that the traveler has sufficient financial health to support himself or herself during the trip to Bahrain.
  • If the foreign national is intending to visit Bahrain for visiting friends or family members, he or she should submit a personal invitation letter issued by the host in Bahrain. Please note that this personal invitation letter carries all the information about the host and visitor. The letter should be also signed and dated, and it should detail the nature and purpose of the visit.
  • It is necessary to submit the proof of the host’s status in Bahrain. In order to prove this, copy of the Bahrain national’s passport information page can be submitted. If the host is not a Bahrain national, copies of their Bahrain residence permit along with passport copies can be submitted.
  • The applicant should also submit a personal letter addressed to the Embassy of Bahrain. This personal letter should explain the purpose of the trip, and should detail everything about the dates of travel, intended places to visit, and accommodation details. Please note that this letter should be original, and it should bear the signature of the applicant.

UK to waive visas and cut fees for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in travel boost

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel said the move will ‘connect the people of our countries and boost economic prosperity.' AFP

The UK has added Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to its list of countries eligible for electronic visa waivers , making travel safer, cheaper and easier, the Home Office announced on Wednesday.

Citizens from Saudi Arabia and Bahrain join those from other GCC states including Kuwait, the UAE and Qatar in being eligible.

From June 1, nationals of the two countries can apply to travel to the UK for tourism, business, study or medical treatment for up to six months online before travel without needing to submit visa applications.

UK ambassador to Saudi Arabia Neil Crompton said the process was quick, straightforward and inexpensive.

An electronic visa waiver will cost only about 140 Saudi riyals ($37), the Saudi Press Agency reported. That is around a third of the old price of $128 for six months.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel said the visa waiver for Saudi Arabia will “connect the people of our countries and boost economic prosperity”.

“The electronic visa waiver is a quick, digital alternative to the regular visit visa and ensures all the necessary security checks are carried out in advance of travel. The visa improvements announced today will provide greater security for our citizens while making it easier and cheaper for visitors from the Gulf to travel here for leisure and business,” she said.

The electronic visa waiver will allow Saudis and Bahrainis to travel to the UK without obtaining a prior visa provided they complete an online waiver form and pay the fees.

The UK Home Office said the process is faster than applying for a visa as there is no need to provide biometric information, visit a visa application centre or hand in your passport before travel.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said the visa waiver will strengthen the UK's relationship with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, making it easier for visitors from the Gulf to come to the UK.

“Our friendships with both countries are of great importance, built on shared priorities such as trade, investment and security,” she said.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made an official visit to Saudi Arabia last month and met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The two nations agreed to form a Strategic Partnership Council.

Bahrain and Saudi Arabia get UK electronic visa waiver status

Bahrain and Saudi Arabia to join other Gulf Cooperation Council countries with electronic visa waiver status for UK travel.

uk visit visa fees bahrain

From 1 June 2022, nationals of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain can apply to travel to the UK (for tourism, business, study or medical treatment) for up to 6 months with an electronic visa waiver.

The move will deepen the UK’s partnership with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and enhance diplomatic ties and economic prosperity.

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain will join other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states with electronic visa waiver status, the Home Office has announced. The move will maintain security and effective border processes ensuring necessary security checks are carried out ahead of travel whilst enabling smooth transit through the UK border for visitors.

An electronic visa waiver allows the holder to travel to the UK without obtaining a visa provided they complete an online waiver for each visit. A small fee will be applied, and it is quicker than applying for a visa as there is no need to provide biometric information (photo and fingerprints), attend a visa application centre or hand in your passport in advance of travel.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said:

This visa waiver for Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will better connect the people of our countries and boost economic prosperity. The electronic visa waiver is a quick, digital alternative to the regular visit visa and ensures all the necessary security checks are carried out in advance of travel. The visa improvements announced today will provide greater security for our citizens while making it easier and cheaper for visitors from the Gulf to travel here for leisure and business.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said:

This visa waiver will strengthen our relationships with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, making it easier for visitors from the Gulf to come to the UK. Our friendships with both countries are of great importance, built on shared priorities such as trade, investment and security.
