Moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and super stretchy, this skirt is made to move. The Spanx brand always prioritizes fit, so it's not surprising that the inner shorts are lined with a silicone grip to keep them in place and prevent chafing. There are side pockets on the shorts and a back pocket on the double-layered, smoothing elastic waistband. The skirt is available in black, white, and melon.
Made with a blend of recycled polyester and spandex, this pretty pleated skort from Gap is just as functional as it is fashion-forward thanks to its slim-fit A-line silhouette, built-in shorts, and wide elastic waistband for optimal comfort. Another great option from Outdoor Voices is the Exercise Skirt—this one is slightly shorter with no side slit. It features zippered and open pockets, and the shorts beneath have leg grippers to keep them securely in place.
Beyond tennis, this Athleta skirt is also ideal for running or golfing thanks to its fast-drying fabric, made with a combination of recycled polyester and spandex, that will keep you feeling light and fresh while breaking a sweat. In addition to offering all-around stretch, it also gives light compression, which can provide extra support to muscles and joints. Internal hem grips offer support and stability to ensure it stays put while working out. Even better? It has three pockets: one zippered pocket on the back waistband plus two stash pockets in the built-in shorts.
This skirt transitions from tennis to trail running to summer barbecuing seamlessly. The lightweight fabric is sweat-wicking with four-way stretch, and is made to retain its shape. It's also cool and smooth to the touch. The skirt is available in black, sonic pink, navy, hot heat (a bright red), and white.
There’s lots to love about this sweat-wicking tennis skirt from Halara. Its lightweight fabric feels like a second skin, while the high-waisted crossover design is both flattering and fashionable. We’d also be remiss not to mention the built-in shorts, feminine flared silhouette, and not one, but two side pockets. Choose from nearly 20 color options, including bold hues like peach and fuchsia, in sizes XS-4X.
Flattering and functional, this Alo Yoga favorite features fitted inner shorts (complete with pockets) and a super comfortable stretch fabric. This staple works equally well for fashion or sport—one reviewer noted she's even gone climbing in it.

Shake things up with this stretchy skirt from Athleta. The breezy fabric is slick to the touch, and there are three pockets throughout (including a secure zip pocket on the back of the waistband). Bring this along on active vacations where you plan to golf, play tennis, or run . It's available in black, white, navy, and teal blue.

All your tennis skirt questions, answered
What’s the best material for a tennis skirt?
Valeria Salazar Garza, pickleball pro at Life Time Penn 1 in New York City, says the best tennis skirts are made of a “magical blend” of nylon and elastane (a.k.a. spandex or Lycra). These materials are great for durable, sweat-resistant, and stretchy enough skirts that can handle your most dramatic serves, she says.
You’ll notice that many skirts are made with polyester instead of nylon. Polyester is generally more affordable than nylon, so it helps keep the price lower. However, nylon has an edge: It can enhance durability and abrasion resistance, which is great for withstanding the wear and tear of frequent play, Salazar Garza says. “Plus, it helps wick away moisture—so you’re not just a sweaty mess but a stylish, well-maintained sweaty mess.” Polyester still gets the job done, but a skirt with nylon is likely to have a more premium feel and longer life on the court.
What’s the best color for a tennis skirt?
There’s no one right answer. White activewear is synonymous with tennis partially because it’s been the Wimbledon dress code since the 1880s. The pros might still need to follow that rule when competing at the iconic tournament, but you certainly don’t need to wear white on the court unless you want to. Black and navy are also classic tennis uniform staples, Salazar Garza says. “I personally prefer black as I usually wear all-black outfits, but if you’re feeling bold and want to stand out, bright colors or fun patterns can definitely add some personality. Ultimately, pick whatever makes you feel great on the court, whether that’s blending in or making a statement.”
Is there a difference between a tennis skirt and a golf skirt?
Tennis and golf skirts might look similar, but they aren’t exactly interchangeable. “Tennis skirts are more flexible with more swish and movement, whereas golf skirts are more structured—people are rarely lunging in golf. Golf skirts tend to be longer as well,” says Chrissy Kaupie, founder of Mulligal , an online shop for new and used golf apparel. This means that tennis skirts can work just fine for golf, but that golf skirts may restrict your tennis moves if they’re too long or rigid to let you retain enough mobility to scoot around the court.
Best Tennis Skirt Overall: Gold Hinge Tennis Skirt
Gold Hinge Tennis Skirt
TikTokers are obsessed with this Gold Hinge tennis skirt, and so is model Ella Halikas , who says it hugs and snatches her curves. This pleated skirt is super flattering thanks to the thick, legging-like waistband and just-flouncy-enough design. It’s cut at miniskirt length, but the built-in shorts (with two hidden pockets!) ensure you can walk, lounge, and dash across the court without worrying about flashing a thing. “The length is perfect because it’s not too short but also not too long, and doubles as altheisure that you can run errands in,” Halikas adds. If you do take it on the court, rest assured that the polyester/spandex blend is sweat-wicking. Toss this tennis skirt in your cart during your next Amazon order, and you won’t be disappointed.
Glamour senior commerce editor Jenifer Calle is also a fan of the stretchy skirt. “I’m not a skirt person but this Gold Hinge skort (in white) has changed my mind. It’s very cute with a tank top or a sweater now that the weather is getting chillier. I like to wear it on the weekends when I’m strolling around getting coffee and walking my dog,” she says.
- Material: 85% polyester, 15% spandex
- Length: 14.625"–16.5'"

Best Tennis Skirt for Big Thighs: HDE Plus Size Tennis Skort
HDE Women’s Plus Size Tennis Skort
Courtney Haywood , principal publicist at Haywood Agency Partners , has been playing tennis since she was a kid and has put a bunch of skirts to the test. Her current favorite as a “6-foot-tall and plus-size girly” is this HDE pick from Amazon. “I’ve worn this skirt to go shopping, to play tennis and golf, and just for strolls in the park,” she says. “As a mom of two boys, while running a business and working a 9–5, I always find myself on the go, and this HDE skirt is my go-to slip-right-on outfit—and because of the pockets, I don’t even carry a handbag.”
The material is UPF 50 to keep you protected from the sun while playing outside, and Haywood says it’s breathable, comfortable, and never see-through. The built-in shorts have a silicone strip to help keep them from slipping up, though you shouldn’t have to worry about a lack of coverage: “The length is right above the knee,” Haywood says. “Last but not least, tummy control ! HDE does not disappoint at all with this. It enhances your shape and curves, the stretch is awesome, and it doesn’t feel like you are sucked in or too tight around your waist and legs.”
- Material: 90% polyester, 10% spandex
- Length: 18.5"–21.5"
- Sizes: 1X–4X
Best Tennis Skirt for Tall People: Athleta Ace High-Rise Tennis Skort
Athleta Ace High-Rise Tennis Skort
Athleta’s Ace High-Rise tennis skirt is a favorite of Celia Quintero , a celebrity tennis coach in Los Angeles, and it’s a great tennis skirt for tall people since the brand offers it in both a 13.5" and 15.5" length. It’s absolutely loaded with features, including two stash pockets inside the built-in shorts (great for storing extra balls) and a zippered pocket on the back waistband for valuables like a phone or keys. Hem grippers keep the shorts in place while you play, while the UPF 50+ rating protects your skin from the sun. The high-rise cut and quick-drying fabric feels like just a pair of Athleta’s best-in-class leggings, but then with the breathability and swing of a tennis skirt. “I love this one for the tummy support and its cute flare on the bottom, but it also goes well with my body type,” Quintero says.
- Material: Recycled polyester/spandex
- Length: 13.5", 15.5"
- Sizes: XXS–3X
Best Tennis Skirt for Athletes: NikeCourt Dri-Fit Victory Flouncy Skirt
NikeCourt Dri-FIT Victory Women's Flouncy Skirt
Salazar Garza says she’s been playing in Nike skirts for as long as she can remember, calling them her “fashion comfort food.” The exact model doesn’t matter so much. “They’re like an old, reliable friend who never lets you down,” she says. At the moment, the NikeCourt Victory is her favorite. “The skirt has a wide elastic waistband that ensures a secure fit without digging in, and the lightweight fabric provides breathability,” she adds. “At the same time, the flouncy design adds a feminine touch while allowing for a full range of motion, enhancing mobility on the court.” The shorts on this tennis skort are cut a little longer than others, ensuring your cheeks are covered even when the skirt swings or floats.
- Material: Recycled polyester, spandex
Best Pleated Tennis Skirt: Alo Yoga Grand Slam Tennis Skirt
Alo Yoga Grand Slam Tennis Skirt
Picture an iconic, pleated tennis skirt in your head, you’re probably envisioning something like the Alo Grand Slam tennis skirt. Aside from the little reflective Alo logo on the rear waistband and the mini length hem, it has a classic look that would fit right in photos of 1950s Wimbledon. (It also has some cheer-team vibes that we are absolutely not mad about.)
“What I love most is the cut and fit,” says Ariel Schwartz, owner and founder at The Workshop Pilates . “It has a high-rise fitted waistband that keeps your waist supported and is super flattering at the same time.” The waistband is actually made with the brand’s Airlift performance fabric, which you might know from their beloved Alo leggings . “It hits your thighs at the perfect spot,” Schwartz adds. Casual tennis player and model Allison Weiss Brady also loves this skirt so much that she bought several. “It’s incredibly comfortable, and the fabric is lightweight and soft but not see-through,” she says. Bonus: It has a single ball pocket in the built-in shorts and, as Schwartz says, “everyone loves pockets!”
- Material: 82% polyester, 18% elastane
- Length: 13.125"–16.625"
- Sizes: XXS–L
Best Budget Tennis Skirt: Baleaf Tennis Skirt
BALEAF Tennis Skirt
There’s no need to spend $50+ on a tennis skirt if you aren’t sure how much you’ll actually wear one. The most affordable tennis skirt we’ve found is this pick from Baleaf on Amazon that rings in at about $30 (and it’s often on sale for even less). “This tennis skirt is perfect for when I play pickleball,” says Morgan O’Kelley, avid pickleball player and guest services manager at Pickle and Social in Buford, Georgia. “It’s super breathable fabric and the high waist also has tummy control that helps me feel confident and comfortable on the court. I’ve been wearing these skirts for about three years, especially in those hot summer months.” More than a thousand Amazon customers who’ve given the skirt a 5-star rating are big fans, too. You can choose between two options: one with inner pockets on the built-in shorts and another with those pockets plus outer pockets in the skirt itself.

- Length: 14"
Best Lightweight Tennis Skirt: Adidas Tennis Match Skirt
Adidas Tennis Match Skirt
“I grew up in South Florida and throughout my entire childhood, I played tennis. I was even on the varsity team in high school and played recreationally in college. These days, if I’m lucky enough to get on a court (in summer, at least every other week!), my favorite skirt is the Tennis Match Skirt by Adidas,” says Hilary Sheinbaum , journalist and author of Going Dry . “It has shorts that are super easy to move in, and the skirt itself pretty much goes with any tank top or shirt that I already own. I can also wear the skirt before and after playing a game or hitting balls with the ball machine.” It’s also super breathable, thanks to Adidas’s HEAT.RDY technology, making it great for hot days or playing in air-conditioned spaces. There’s also room to hold balls in the skirt (which, any tennis player knows, is necessary), Sheinbaum says. “And I never feel like the material it’s riding up or bothering me in an irritating way like some other brands’ skirts have in the past.”
- Material: Recycled polyester, elastane
- Sizes: XXS–4X
Best Tennis Skirt Set: Lululemon Varsity High-Rise Pleated Tennis Skirt
Lululemon Varsity High-Rise Pleated Tennis Skirt
Both Salazar Garza and Quintero are fans of this Lululemon tennis skirt that’s as classic as they come. It also comes in white so if you’re looking for a preppy white tennis skort that pops on the court this is it. The featherlight micro-pleats make the skirt feel like nothing, while the compressive undershorts help you feel locked in. “This skirt is pretty lightweight and allows for swift movements on the court,” says Salazar Garza. The high-rise waistband has a secure and flattering fit, and has built-in shorts for added coverage and support. The inner shorts are made with Lululmeon’s signature Luxtreme fabric, a blend of Lycra and nylon with sweat-wicking properties, four-way stretch, a super smooth feel, and guaranteed not to be see-through. Of course, there are also two side pockets in the liner for stashing balls, your phone, or lip balm, too. Pair it with a white Lululemon tank top to complete the set or mix and match with other Lululemon sports bras.
- Material: Nylon, Lycra, polyester
- Length: 12"–13.5"
- Sizes: 0–14
Best Tennis Skirt with Pockets: NikeCourt Advantage Tennis Skirt (Dri-Fit)
NikeCourt Advantage Tennis Skirt (Dri-FIT)
Nike offers a few different Advantage tennis skirts with their signature Dri-Fit fabric, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them—especially if you’re looking for roomy pockets above all. This skirt has stash pockets in the shorts liner that are big enough to fit an iPhone or tennis ball with plenty of space. It has an A-line silhouette that’s not to flouncy but gives you plenty of room to move. Quintero, for one, is a fan. “I love this Nike one for its high-waisted support and look,” she says. “The cut of the skirt is very cute and flows well when I play, so it’s not too clingy.”
- Material: Polyester, spandex
Best High-Waisted Tennis Skirt: Lululemon Align High-Rise Skirt
Lululemon Align High-Rise Skirt
Straight-cut tennis skirts are like the skirt version of leggings. Take the Lululemon Align high-rise skirt, for example. It has a high-rise cut and is made of the brand’s super soft Nulu fabric, so it’s great for activities like walking, yoga, or Pilates. You can totally wear a straight-cut skirt like this one to play tennis, just make sure it has enough stretch to let you move freely. “I love that the design is sleek yet practical,” says Salazar Garza. “It has a high-rise waistband for a secure and flattering fit, while the lightweight material ensures comfort during active play. I love the buttery softness in the form of a skirt, and its sleek design and color make it both functional and fashionable, allowing for an easy transition from tennis court to casual wear.”
