Tour promoted as European Christmas markets

Tour was specifically promoted as European Christmas Markets, however, the dates of the tour did not coincide in the opening dates of most of the markets. That soured the entire aspect of the tour. When weather in connecting city caused cancellation of return flights which had been originally been made through Collette, Collette said they could do nothing to assist and dumped the problem in our laps.

Worst tour I have ever taken

Worst tour I have ever taken. We paid for an escorted tour but were essentially provided with a Bed and Breakfast. No guided tours in a the capital city of Lisbon on our 3 day stay. Limited admissions to other sites on the 16 day journey. Very poorly planned tour. Will never travel with them again. Do not use them...find another company

Not Worth The Hype And Money

I booked The Treasures Of Egypt tour for May and paid over $5000 as a single traveler minus the airfare. The experience got to a rough start when the person who arranged for my transfer to the hotel in Cairo failed to pick me up as we agreed. In fact, he did see me arrive and gave me the option to wait in the car or in the coffee shop, which I chose latter. After waiting for a couple of hours, the man never showed up and I had to look for him all over the area near the terminal entrance. After several attempts and with some help from a few strangers, I finally found him. The trip initially went well until midway when I caught a bad cold from some travelers who went on the trip despite being sick. They were coughing and were not masked. I was bedridden and was unable to see Abdul Simbel, the Sphinx, and most importantly, the interior of the Great Pyramid—my main reason for going on this trip. Worse of all, the tour director had us wake up as early as 3:00 in the morning and was very overprotective of me. Some of the travelers were rude to me and made jokes about me. The Galebeya party was not what I expected. Instead of folk entertainment by native dancers, it was only the travelers that provided the entertainment. When the tour ended, I had a very hard time getting home as the airline (a Middle Eastern carrier) I booked with banned me from traveling for being “a risk to my own health and safety” and it took me a couple of days before I was able go home on a Western carrier. If you ever decide to go to Egypt and take a tour, please do yourself a favor and book with another tour company, and if you do become sick BEFORE the trip, please do yourself and your fellow travelers a favor and stay home. That’s what travel insurance is for. You will save your fellow travelers and avoid the horrible agonies that I went through.

Toured London and Paris with Colette

Toured london and Paris with Colette.I booked and paid for a Louve tour and later told it was not available it was later refuned and I had to book on my own. I paid for airport tranport and no one was there to get me. I called the office and was told to take a taxi and Daniel our tour director would pay for it. We arrved at the hotel and Daniel did pay for the taxi. Not a very good start to a dream vacation.the hotel in London was quite nice. The hotel in Paris the Pullman the elevators would take 15 minutes to get down. There was no water in the room and it was 6 Euro per bottle. The elevator was stuck not on a floor with door partialy open for about 5 minutes. Be assured the rooms that they book do not have a view at all. We went to the Eiffel Tower for dinner and had the worst seat in the house. There was a handicap lift in front of us. We sat alone at a table just the 2 of us. I previously dined at the same restaurant as an individual with my husband and had a far better experience. It was quite evident at dinner the clients that were going on to another city had the best and only window seats. Due to the cost of this tour it was a bit disapppinting. I would say overall the experience rated a 3. My suggestion as an avid traveler do your research and ask questions in advance.

Dishonest practices!

Unreputable and dishonest! Deserves less than 1 star! I have previously been on 2 tours with Collette which were wonderful, but with my most recent experience with Collette, I will never give them another penny of my money. I booked in 2019 what would have been a lovely tour in Europe for 2020, which also included the Oberambergau Passion Play. Unfortunately due to Covid, the tour was rescheduled for 2022. By the spring of 2022, all the countries included in the tour had rescinded their requirement to receive the Covid "vaccine,"in order to enter their borders, however Collette was still requiring the injection in order to participate on their tour. I had checked with my travel company, (RCI) 9 months prior to the departure date to see when I needed to cancel the trip before inccurring a penalty. I was incorrectly told I had until 30 days before departure to cancel. Just after the 4 months to departure date, I recontacted RCI, and found that if I cancelled at that time, I would incur a 75% penalty. (Due to the inclusion of Oberambergau on the tour, Collette had imposed a high penalty for cancellation.) I spoke with my travel agency, (RCI), Collette, and my travel insurance company, (Generali) about this issue. Each entity pointed to one of the other entities to provide any recompense, but NONE took any responsobility. When I spoke with a high level rep at Collette, I was told they had inccurred a penalty regarding the Oberambergau portion "due to my cancellation," so they would not refund me any $$. IF they did have some sort of penalty, they did not lose a penny by my cancellation, as they RESOLD my spot, and at a HIGHER price. Despite the assertion of that high level rep that I spoke with, the spot I gave up WAS RESOLD; I know because I checked right BEFORE I spoke with her and again right AFTER. The tour was SOLD OUT for my travel date. Losing $7500 is a lot of $$ for me, but apparently Collette could care less how it treats its (now former) customers!

I just had a South Africa trip with Collette March April 2024- the food was bad, guide was constantly rushing us but the main issue was safety on safaris- my travel agent told me when I was booking this trip that they have weapons on safari vehicles to protect tourists from wild animals in case of emergency. Its a lie- they have nothing- u sign a waver and hope for the best! 3 days before our safari at exact same park- the vehicle with tourists was attacked by an elephant and they could do nothing to protect people. This was recorded with a cellphone and its all over U Tube and Google!!! I wrote a letter to Collette explaining everything that went wrong on this trip and asked for partial refund- they wouldn't give money back

European Christmas Market tour was poorly scheduled before many of the markets were opened for the season. Collette gave no assistance when return flights (which had been booked through Collette) were cancelled and simply stated that customers had to fend for themselves.

Perfectly organized tours with great customer service. The tour managers are experts in their regions. I've always had outstanding experiences with Collette. Highly recommend them.

With only 31 days to our tour to Italy, we just found out from the airline that we have to pay for our seats. When booking this trip, I was upfront about the way I like to travel and wanted a "One World" airline. We were booked with ITA because it was significantly less expensive. This apparently was our first mistake. When I questioned the agent about the fee for seats, I was told "some airlines charge for seats". When I pressed about why wasn't I told this in advance and how the booking agent not know this fact, this agent continued to side step the question. Now we are in a budget airline, paying just about when a "One World" airline would have charged and creditors my miles program with 8000 miles. Collette is not transparent in their practices and the agents are not knowledgeable in their jobs. Never again!

I am currently traveling on Collette's London and Paris tour. They informed us, AFTER we booked and paid and arrived for our meet and greet dinner, that we are traveling to Paris on the Eurostar train day after tomorrow, but our bags will be picked up and transported (by God knows what means) to Paris tomorrow morning. So, we have to either keep our luggage and manhandle it ourselves (I'm 70) or keep back whatever we need for 2 days and bring it with us in a carry on or backpack. This means without the bulk of what we brought along for 25% of the trip!!! I have confirmed there is no porterage available on the Eurostar, but losing our luggage for this length of time seems ridiculous. Oh - and first hotel: great location, couldn't check in on arrival because system was down, terrible food at their breakfast buffet, where both coffee machines were not operational so not even a cup of coffee was available.

Photo of Marie H.

Hawaii Grand Adventure is the tour I took this year. The tour manager, was absolutely terrible. Not only did she violate Collette's policies on checking for vaccines, her response to me what "oh that's okay I don't need to see it," she also did not require people to wear a mask while we were together on the tour bus or in the group which was written on Collette letter head that I received prior to my tour. This tour manager also was also rude and condescending. I heard from another tour member, after my sudden departure, that she told everyone on the bus about my medical condition with my name in the same sentence. A clear violation of HIPAA laws, none of these people were medical staff that I was under the care of, they were paying customers of Collette. None of them had any authority to know any of my PHIs and I did not authorize the tour manager to disclose my PHIs. Additionally, she did not follow the Collette process to have another person take over my two extension purchases, she just gave them away and expected this person to pay me back directly. She told me "she was trying to make it easier on me," when clearly it was to avoid the extra Collette paperwork. When I voiced my concerns about this on the phone with her she abruptly said "well if you would just let me speak," I'm a rude and condescending tone. Horrid customer service skills. When I spoke with a Collette senior guest relations advisor, after I had returned home he seemed to actually care and listen to my many many concerns about this trip. He also agreed with a lot of my issues and was appreciative of my feedback. This also included the process and care of my departure. Then when I inquired about the violation of my HIPAA rights and the tour manager's clear violation of Collette covid policies, and if Collette was going to make it right; I received no response. I made several attempts to reach him for answers and nothing. I will never recommend or go on a Collette tour again.

Photo of Louise C.

When I needed their customer service or support or care team, a fancy name, for an awful service, they failed me. In addition when I was stranded at the airport the tour guide couldnt find the phone number for the above Collette service. It was an absolute nightmare. I will never travel with them again, and I am a seasoned traveller. In addition, although they advertised there air conditioned coaches contain toilet facilities, they did not. This was on all 5 or 6 different coach buses, not One had a toilet facility we could use. Anyway, there are Much better tour companies out there with a better value. In closing, I dont want to hear the words "beef or fish" ever again. Poor food selection on included meals. Youve been warned.

As others have said poor customer service. Long story short...flights I was depending on were eliminated according to Collette however when I contacted the airline directly they were available. Bait and switch? That's how I see it. What was made available to me was spending nearly an extra 400$ leaving a day earlier or long layovers that go out of the way. This is NOT the way to treat customers. I recommend useing another tour company. I will be canceling my tour with them when the time comes. I purchased their travel insurance and will be out the 399$, and they will be out a good client. I've traveled on MANY tours and this is the most unaccommodating and unacceptable service of ever had.

Photo of Kathryn M.

It is unlikely I will ever use Collette again. If I would have done my research like I normally do, I would have found that I could have purchased the trip for half of what Collette charges. We were scheduled to take a tour in June on the Rocky Mountaineer. The day before the tour, we tested positive for Covid. If we had been like many others, we would have gone on the tour anyway. (we got Covid on our trip, from others, who were coughing up a storm on the bus) Instead, we were honest and ended up spending a 10 day quarantine in Canada. At first there was the hope of vouchers, but in the end no dice. Their insurance was expensive on top of an already expensive trip. Lesson learned. Expensive for us, quarantine and a missed trip, great for Collette.....extra profit for a trip not taken. Bet we aren't the only ones.

Destination Must-See's

North America Continent ms2

Washington, D.C.:

A tour of the United States can mean many things. Each region has its own culture and history. From Paul Revere’s ride through the New England countryside to San Francisco’s Golden Gate the promise of America rings true. Few other places offer so much. You may find yourself listening to jazz in New Orleans or meeting the cowboys of Jackson Hole. It could be the wilds of Yosemite or the back roads of Boston; either way few countries can offer so much.

North America Continent ms1

Niagara Falls:

The truth is we would run out of space (and adjectives) if we tried to fit in all the things that make Canada such a remarkable country. From the shores of the Canadian Maritimes to the European style of Quebec City and Montreal to epic Banff National Park and on to the forests of Vancouver, there is always more Canada to explore. Come along and explore the vibrant culinary scene, breathtaking landscapes and more.

North America Continent ms3r

Grand Canyon:

Breathtaking panoramas and layers of vibrant color tell the story of earth’s geological past. You will come to know why it draws nearly 5 million visitors each year who come to see this natural wonder of the world. The canyon’s massive span and dramatic hues dazzle the senses and inspire the spirit. This western wonder is so vast, it rises nearly a mile from the floor with the barely recognizable Colorado River flowing below.

New York City:

From Little Italy to Greenwich Village, New York City is a destination even the most seasoned traveler can enjoy. It’s home to beautiful Central Park and glittering Times Square and famous for its renowned Broadway shows. The island of Manhattan is flanked by the Hudson River where you find the iconic Statue of Liberty and historic Ellis Island. The poignant 9/11 Museum sits quietly but prominently in Lower Manhattan. “Start spreading the news!” This is “the Big Apple.”

Destination Must-Do's

North America Continent md1

Canadian Rockies:

The highlight of the spectacular Canadian Rockies is a drive along the incredible Icefields Parkway. Paralleling the Great Divide, this special roadway is home to some of the most dramatic vistas in all of North America. Snowcapped mountains engulf the landscape, casting shadows on the adjacent glacial streams. Take time to stop at the Columbia Icefield – a dramatic 200 square mile stretch of land filled with glaciers. Here you may ride across a 1,000 foot thick glacier or walk on the Glacier Skywalk.

North America Continent md2

New Orleans French Quarter

Nestled along the legendary Mississippi River, this historic cultural hub of the city has an old-world feel that attracts writers, musicians and artists. Its streets are lined with art galleries, antique stores, jazz clubs, nightclubs and restaurants. Its eclectic architectural style is a blend of Spanish, French, Creole and American influences. Cobblestone streets are lined with brick buildings that feature charming walled courtyards, ornate cast iron balconies, and copious stoops and porches, all creating the perfect atmosphere for people watching.

North America Continent md3

Denali National Park:

This vast land has a fascinating ecosystem and is more than a park — it is a wildlife reserve. And perhaps its biggest claim to fame is being the home to North America’s highest peak, Denali, ascending more than 20,000 feet. This massive park is now more than 6 million acres, an area that can be compared to the size of Massachusetts. The park is home to nearly forty different varieties of mammals, but the most popular residents are moose, caribou, and wolves, and of course brown and grizzly bears. Denali is Alaska’s heartland and brings you up close to its majestic beauty and natural wonders.

North America Continent md4

Canadian Maritimes:

Lush forests, soaring cliffs and limitless scenic vistas fill your journey through one of the world’s most spectacular coastal regions. You will find wonders like nowhere else including the dramatic tides of the Bay of Fundy and the stunning beauty of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. From the spirit of the outdoors to the old world Gaelic and French influences, you will be enthralled from start to finish.

Collette Unveils Revamped Passport Club Loyalty Program

Collette Passport Club

Collette Passport Club

Tour company Collette has revamped its Passport Club loyalty program.

The Passport Club rewards travelers with perks and credits for booking a tour within a set time frame following a previous trip with the tour operator.

Collette previously retooled the program almost a year ago in September 2023. The latest batch of changes extends the range of dates that travellers can receive loyalty credit, as well as how long the credit has until it expires.

Guests are automatically enrolled in the program as Level 1: Adventurer. They will then receive a credit on their next Collette tour, depending on when it is booked. After completing their third tour with Collette, travelers will be upgraded to the next tier, Level 2: Explorer.

How the Passport Club loyalty program works:

Travelers will receive a 5% credit on their next Collette tour when it’s completed within 24 months of their most recent departure date, or a 3% Loyalty Credit on tours completed within 25 to 36 months of their original trip.

Those in the Level 2: Explorer tier will also get a US$100 of credit towards purchasing optional tour components or upgrades when travel is completed within 36 months of the most recent trip departure date.

The credits expire 36 months after their most recent departure date.

“We want to reward our travellers for exploring the world with us,” said Collette CEO Jaclyn Leibl-Cote. “With our dynamic program, the more they travel, the more they’ll receive. Plus, the bigger the trip, the bigger the credit. This year, we’ve worked to extend the benefits of the Passport Club. Travelers’ loyalty credit now lasts longer and they’ll also accumulate credit for pre- and post-tour accommodations. We are grateful to our family of travellers and want to reward them for every adventure they take with us.”

Terms and conditions apply. For more details and an FAQ, visit the Collette website .

Some dramedies, like About a Boy , focus on romantic and interpersonal relationships and how these relationships are so often filled with moments of humor and drama. Others, like Captain Fantastic , showcase family dynamics and how humor so often coexists with grief and tragedy. The best dramedies center on the human experience and how it contains so many nuanced moments of laughter and tears . Excellent performances by talented actors are what bring these nuances to life.

10 'About a Boy' (2002)

Directed by paul and chris weitz.

About a Boy stars Hugh Grant as Will Freeman, a man living off of the royalties of his father's successful Christmas song. He meets Fiona ( Toni Collette ) under dubious circumstances and develops a relationship with her that is ultimately built on a lie. He also meets Rachel ( Rachel Weisz ), who he finds himself falling in love with over time. Will realizes that Rachel is the first woman who he is genuinely interested in, even though Rachel does not reciprocate these feelings at first.

"While Hugh Grant plays a typical version of himself as this character, the standout performances are those of Collette and Weisz."

While Hugh Grant plays a typical version of himself as this character, the standout performances are those of Collette and Weisz. Both portray complex women who face challenges in their respective lives. These women are contrasted in how they relate to Will, and how they either connect with him or find themselves pushing him away . About a Boy is ultimately the story of a deeply unlikable character finding a way to make something of himself, with oftentimes comedic and sometimes heartfelt results.

9 'A Serious Man' (2009)

Directed by joel and ethan coen.

Directors Joel and Ethan Coen may be known for their crime-centric movies. However, they have demonstrated that they are versatile filmmakers and can tackle many genres. A Serious Man follows Larry Gopnik ( Michael Stuhlbarg ), a man struggling with his faith, identity, and his place in the world. As Larry's life unravels, he turns to his Jewish identity for answers, and is ultimately left with far more questions than solutions.

Michael Stuhlbarg delivers an incredible performance as a nuanced character who is easy to sympathize with even at his most unlikable. This performance is a mature one, and one that allows viewers to ask their own questions without being presented with easy answers. This character, like A Serious Man as a whole, is a reflection on part of the American Jewish experience and how identity shapes the human experience .

Mortensen's performance alone makes this dramedy deeply charming. In addition to Mortensen, however, this movie features an incredible ensemble that captures the fact that family relationships can be complicated . Captain Fantastic 's ensemble perfectly blends together to showcase a family facing a crushing grief. Watching each of these characters process this grief in their own respective ways highlights how unique the grief journey is for everyone.

7 'In Bruges' (2008)

Directed by martin mcdonagh.

In Bruges follows two Irish hitmen , Ray ( Colin Farrell ) and Ken ( Brendan Gleeson ) as they hide in Bruges. After Ray accidentally kills a child while targeting a priest, the duo's boss Harry ( Ralph Fiennes ) orders Ray killed as he believes that killing a child, even unintentionally, is unforgivable. The two continue their hideout in Bruges, and ultimately feel very differently about the city the more time that they spend in the city.

Farrell and Gleeson make a lovable duo, and it is easy to cheer for them regardless of their criminal ways . Their performances bring this story together. The focus on this unlikely friendship ensures that In Bruges is able to exist in multiple genres. Farrell and Gleeson are able to balance the comedy with the story's more dramatic moments. They are both able to bring the movie's darker tone to life while maintaining its accessibility.

6 'Tully' (2018)

Tully is the story of a mother who is at the end of her rope. As she befriends her night nanny, she is able to acknowledge just how overwhelmed she has become as a mother. She is able to process her chaotic life as her friendship with the nanny deepens. Ultimately, Tully is a story of family and friendship, and is a reflection on how important support is to new mothers as they navigate their new realities and identities .

Charlize Theron carries this movie from beginning to end. Her performance is nuanced and compassionate. She humanizes Marlo without taking away her agency. Within this story, Theron creates a character who is easy to empathize with. While Theron has a natural comedic timing that comes through in Tully , she uses this comedy to highlight the gravity of the story she is telling through this character. The complexity of this character serves Tully well.

On their journey, each family member must navigate issues such as lost dreams, feeling like an outcast, and ultimately, grief and loss. Little Miss Sunshine is another example of a strong ensemble that can navigate comedy paired with a story of profound grief . Each member of the ensemble demonstrates the fact that they understand how much comedy and tragedy go together. These actors come together in a compelling way to be a kind of "every family" with all of their quirks and faults. 3 'american fiction' (2023), directed by cord jefferson.

American Fiction is based on the novel "Erasure" by Percival Everett . Jeffrey Wright stars as Dr. Thelonious "Monk" Ellison, an American writer frustrated with the literary landscape. When he reconnects with his siblings, Dr. Lisa Ellison ( Tracee Ellis Ross ) and Dr. Clifford "Cliff" Ellison ( Sterling K. Brown ), it is clear that they have a lot to work through and a lot of trauma to address as they reflect on their respective lives.

American Fiction is filled with magnetic performances from all three of the main leads. These three illustrate just how challenging and rewarding sibling relationships can be as adults . Their performances in American Fiction add a depth to a story that already serves as a societal commentary. Wright, Ross, and Brown effectively combine their talents to showcase a relatable family navigating relatable struggles.

American Fiction

2 'lady bird' (2017), directed by greta gerwig.

Lady Bird is a coming-of-age story by director Greta Gerwig . Saoirse Ronan stars as Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson, a high school student on the cusp of high school graduation. She has a contentious relationship with her mother, Marion ( Laurie Metcalf ). While the two evidently love each other very much, they have to navigate the fact that Lady Bird is getting ready to enter a new phase in life, and desperately wants her independence.

Saoirse Ronan delivers a heartfelt performance as the movie's protagonist . What makes her performance so magnetic is how accurately she portrays a character at this particular stage of life. The conflict within herself is what shines through, as she searches for her own identity and independence. Additionally, Ronan and Metcalf are breathtakingly effective at showing how heartbreaking conflict between parents and children can be.

1 'The Royal Tenenbaums' (2001)

Directed by wes anderson.

The Royal Tenenbaums is a quintessential Wes Anderson movie , that follows the Tenenbaum family and all their quirks. In this hilarious and poignant story, the Tenenbaum family finds themselves reconnecting as their family family patriarch faces a terminal illness. Danny Glover , Gene Hackman , Anjelica Huston , Bill Murray , Gwyneth Paltrow , Ben Stiller , and Luke and Owen Wilson all star in this sweetly chaotic family dramedy.

The ensemble in The Royal Tenenbaums make this story shine in a unique way. Together, their characters reflect on legacy and how different people process anticipatory grief. The performances are sweet, snappy, and emotionally resonate in a way that makes the movie that much more accessible . The Royal Tenenbaums is made more grounded because of its performances, each of which speak to the human condition.
