'Golden Bachelor' journey comes to an end for Delco's Susan Noles

The 66-year-old aston resident became a fan favorite throughout the first season of the dating show for her one-liners, fashion sense and friendships with the other contestants.

Franki Rudnesky

Aston resident Susan Noles was eliminated in the most recent episode of 'The Golden Bachelor.'

It seems "The Golden Bachelor" lead Gerry Turner won't be making a trip to Delaware County, after all.

During the fifth episode of ABC's new senior-citizen dating show, Turner cut down his cast of eligible bachelorettes from six to three. The bittersweet farewells included a goodbye to 66-year-old Susan Noles, a fan-favorite contestant from Aston. The eliminations came a week before Turner makes a trip to each of the remaining contestants' hometowns to meet their families.

Note: This article contains spoilers for Season 1, Episode 5 of "The Golden Bachelor."

The pivotal episode, which included a one-on-one and a group date, opened with the contestants showing off their signature camaraderie by singing and dancing together in the Bachelor Mansion pool. After finishing up a rendition of the Jewish folk song " Hava Nagila ," Noles made a suggestion for another dance, one that is so Philly:

"Now we'll do the Mummers strut," Noles exclaimed.

While most seasons of "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" feature four hometown dates, the ladies of "The Golden Bachelor" were surprised to find out from host Jesse Palmer that this season only includes three. That meant half of them were going home by the end of the episode.

Turner chose to take Faith Martin on the episode's "once-in-a-lifetime" date, which included a private helicopter ride.  The helicopter made a (likely purposeful) detour directly above Bachelor Mansion, where some of the women were hanging in the pool.

"I wonder if they could see us down here," Noles pondered, before adding: "They were making out; they didn't see a thing."

Later, Martin told her fellow contestants that her date also included a jaunt on a yacht, to which Noles expressed some joking dismay.

"That was my dream," she said.

To alleviate some of the stress of the week, Turner took five women, including Noles, on a group date to the Santa Monica Pier in hopes that they each would let their "inner child" out.  The group played carnival games, ate cotton candy and rode amusement park rides.

"I haven't done things like this since I was a teenager," Noles said.

Things also got more serious as some of the women expressed their feelings of love to Turner, and pondered the seriousness of impending hometown dates.

"Scary to know it's almost over," Noles said to Turner during a one-on-one moment at the park. "(You) think you're gonna have to go home, and I don't know if you're coming with me or not."

"Well, and I don't know either," Turner replied, in a characteristic moment of candor.

At the rose ceremony, Turner only had two roses to hand out since he gave a rose to Martin during their date. He gave them to Theresa Nist, of New Jersey, and Leslie Fhima. That meant Noles, Ellen Goltzer and Sandra Mason must say adieu.

Classy as always, Noles gave all of her newfound friends big hugs before wishing Turner luck on the rest of his journey.

"You're the best," Turner told her as she departed.

In the final moments of the show, which the franchise traditionally reserves for off-the-cuff moments that show contestants' personalities, Noles got in one last one-liner. The ladies were going in for a group hug before the rose ceremony to celebrate their last night together in Bachelor Mansion.

"Stay out of my boobs," Noles joked, to which the other women doubled over with laughter.

Reflecting on her relationship with Turner, Noles believed they may have had more of a friendship than a romance.

"I think Gerry and I turned into best friends," Noles told ABC's On The Red Carpet following her elimination. "I love him to death. You know when there's just not that heavy romantic feel?"

Noles gained acclaim throughout her tenure on the show for her bold fashion sense, humor and Kris Jenner lookalike status. She also earned a reputation as a "girls' girl" who was always available to gossip or help another contestant curl her hair. Fans took to social media following Noles departure to express their gratitude for Noles' authenticity on the show and express hope that she'll return to the franchise in another capacity.

While mourning the loss of Noles on TV screens for the foreseeable future, "Bachelor" fans in the region can still root for some other local people in the franchise.  South Jersey's Tyler Norris is currently looking for love on "Bachelor in Paradise," and Montgomery County-native Joey Graziadei  soon will make his debut as the lead of "The Bachelor."

"The Golden Bachelor" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and can be streamed the next day on Hulu.

How Does ‘The Golden Bachelor’ Season 1 End? Everything Gerry Turner and ABC Have Said

Everything Gerry Turner Jesse Palmer and More Have Said About The Golden Bachelor s Season 1 Ending 197

Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner ’s journey for love is almost over, and he still has one major decision to make.

Following emotional hometown dates , Gerry, 72, selected Theresa Nist and Leslie Fhima as his final two contestants.

“I want to be engaged, but the possibility is there that I could make the wrong choice,” he said in a teaser for the Thursday, November 16, episode. “No matter what, someone’s going to come out of this situation hurt beyond what I can imagine.”

It appears Gerry’s final choice takes a toll on him, as he tearfully tells host Jesse Palmer , “This just isn’t worth all of it. I took a good person and broke their heart. The only time I’ve ever felt worse in my whole life is when my wife passed away, and this is a goddamn close second.”

The Golden Bachelor airs on ABC Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET. Scroll below to see everything the show’s cast and crew have teased about season 1’s ending:

Dropping the L-Bomb

Gerry exclusively told Us Weekly in September that he was “wrong” to think he wouldn’t say “I love you” to more than one woman. “Through the course of the journey, I really felt strong feelings for several of the women,” he explained, clarifying that he wasn’t fully “in love” with some of them.

“In retrospect, I realized that in that particular moment, whenever it was — the setting was such that, ‘Yeah, it was easy to look at someone and tell ’em that you loved ’em,’” he continued. “But once you get through it all and you look back, then you realize that there is just really one person that really meets the standard in all situations that you want it to be.”

Having ‘No Regrets’

Reflecting on his connections, Gerry told Us that he had “no regrets” about how he handled the physical aspects of their relationship. “[My family] brought up the fantasy suites . And the reality is I kept trying to explain to them that as you get older, the priorities for a situation like that are more intellectual, more emotional rather than physical,” he stated. “And indeed, it did turn out to be exactly that. … I was happy how it turned out. Being able to have a conversation off camera was critically important.”

Happily Ever After

“I’m very happy about how the season went. There was excitement, there was joy, there was great dates, a lot of adventure,” Gerry shared during a September interview on The View . “I wouldn’t be sitting here with a big smile on my face [if I wasn’t happy].”

Getting Down on One Knee

Gerry has implied that he popped the question.

“As I was dating [before the show], I was looking for the person that I would spend the rest of my life with regardless of the label,” Gerry told Us in October. “And as I got closer and closer to the process started in the show, I really kind of came to realize that I did indeed want to be married, that I wanted that commitment, that two-way street. And so as I got into the show, that was my objective.”

He went on to note that his late wife, Toni , would be happy about the season’s “good conclusion.”

Staying open-minded.

“I will tell you, one thing that really was great about Gerry is that he was always open, until he knew that he wasn’t. And so when he’s with someone, that relationship is all that matters,” executive producer Jason Ehrlich told The Hollywood Reporter in November. “And so as we get down towards the end, it gets really intense and difficult and emotional, and things play out in ways we’ve never seen before. And it’s because he stayed open and really wanted to get to the end of this with a person that he was sure he explored everything with, and he was sure his decision was right. In order to do that, he didn’t close off. He stayed open. And it’s really powerful.”

Processing Feelings

Gerry explained being in love with his final three women during a November episode of the Tamron Hall Show . “They were unique, genuine women. And by the end of my journey, I realized, of course, that only one of them was the woman I can’t live without,” he shared, adding, “There’s a level of affection that doesn’t quite make it that person who you want to spend the rest of your life with.”

Nothing But Smiles

When asked by ABC’s George Pennacchio how his Golden Bachelor journey comes to a close on the 2023 CMAs red carpet , Gerry stated, “I wear a smile perpetually now. I’m very happy about where things finished.”

A dramatic finale.

“Gerry’s journey concludes over the next few weeks, and the big question now [is] will he find great love for the second time in his life?” Jesse teased during the show’s Women Tell All episode. “I’m obviously not gonna tell you that, but what I will say is that what happens next is so emotional, it is going to have all of America in tears.”

The host noted that the “emotional ending” is going to be one “no one’s gonna want to miss.”

Keeping an Open Mind

“There was a watershed moment in those fantasy suites, and the watershed moments happened twice, one for each fantasy suite,” Gerry explained to The Hollywood Reporter in November. “And up until that point, if I had not remained open-minded, I might have made a mistake. Who knows how it would have ended.”

Back to Gerry…his daughters and granddaughters are ready to know all about his connections with Theresa and Leslie.

Theresa is up first, and she seems to click with the family pretty easily. While speaking with Gerry’s daughters, she tells them that she’s fully committed to Gerry and she thinks they’ve had a connection since the very beginning. She tells them about her late husband and cries as she talks about the way she and Gerry have bonded over their very similar situations. This is reassuring to Gerry’s daughters, who tell their dad that they would never want to erase the memory of their mom for a new woman in his life. The fact that Theresa intimately understands that is special to them. They pry Gerry for information about what went down during fantasy suites, but he remains tight lipped, only telling them that things got “sweeter” after that time together.

Gerry reiterates what his daughters said earlier, telling Theresa that he enjoys hearing about Billy because it allows him to get to know Theresa better. They agree their connection is made stronger by talking about their late spouses.

Eventually, Theresa brings up Leslie. She says she is concerned that there is still another woman in the picture, and she would be very hurt if he didn’t choose her. However, she also insists that she wouldn’t want a proposal unless Gerry was 1000% sure that he wanted to be with her. She admits she’s scared, and Gerry admits he has a lot to think about. But, he assures her he will not get down on one knee unless he is absolutely committed to her.

The next day, it’s Leslie’s turn to meet the family. She’s excited to see him, and she immediately eases the tension by telling them a story about getting more comfortable around Gerry when he finally said the f-word in front of her during their overnight date. Gerry’s daughters seem to like that Leslie brings out the playful side of Gerry, but they start to have their doubts during their one-on-one conversation with her.

While she seems to win over Gerry’s granddaughters, his daughters are having some reservations. When they ask her whether she’s ready to accept a proposal, Leslie becomes emotional as she recounts the moment Gerry told her “til death do us part.” She said it stoked some anxiety in her, because she’s never had that in her life before. But, ultimately, Gerry made her feel secure enough to decide she is ready for that.

His daughters think she may not be, though. They tell Gerry that they wonder whether she became emotional because she is nervous and unsure about their relationship.

Gerry admits the process has been hard. He wants to make sure he makes the right decision, which feels like a weight on his chest. He admits that the conversation with his daughters was a bit of a wake up call that he needs to figure out what he’s going to do.

As he’s saying goodbye to Leslie, he seems a bit off. She picks up on his change in mood and is a bit anxious as she leaves to get ready for their date.

When they see each other again, she’s hoping they can get back on the right foot. She wonders if it has anything to do with Theresa still being in the picture, which is making her nervous as well. Leslie doesn’t waste much time asking him about it when she sees him. Gerry is quick to apologize, saying that he has just had trouble processing the decision he has to make, now that the moment is drawing near. He didn’t want to bring the energy down and wants to start fresh for the night.

Leslie tries to move past it by presenting Gerry with a gift. She put together a memory book of all their times together, with pages left for the future memories they’ll make. He says every moment with her has been so much fun, and she tells Gerry he makes her feel whole. This seems to send him back into a spiral. He asks if there’s anything else she wants to say, and she tells him that she loves him very much. He puts his hand to his heart and tells her that is “such a special sentiment” — but he doesn’t say it back.

But when he steps into the hallway, he breaks down. As he cries on the stairs, Leslie cries in her room. She tells the cameras she knows exactly why he felt off, but she doesn’t say why. Meanwhile, Gerry admits that he and Leslie have had “a rhythm” since the very beginning, and he knows that she would notice if something was off. Knowing that, he doesn’t feel right leaving without another conversation. So, he knocks on her door again and asks to come inside, because he does actually have something else to say to her.

(If you did not watch this live, be grateful! The commercial break on this cliffhanger was brutal.)

Gerry tells Leslie that he’s fallen in love with Theresa, and he’s decided he is going to propose to her. Leslie is devastated.

She tells Gerry that everything he said to her on their overnight date was a lie, referencing when he said he loved her and told her she was the one for him. He insists it was not a lie, because he felt it was true at the time. She asks where it went wrong, and he says it never went wrong. Both she and Theresa are wonderful, but only one is right. Leslie is fully heartbroken, and she laments that this is yet another time that someone did not choose her, wondering if anyone ever will. Gerry encourages her not to think that way, he but shuts him down, telling him she can think whatever the f*ck she wants. She tells him that he led her down a path, only to leave her there alone after saying he loved her just about 12 hours ago. She is only glad she didn’t have to go into the next day expecting a proposal. She still feels humiliated to be experiencing this heartbreak on national TV, and there is not anything he can say to make it better.

Whew. It’s one of the most intense rejections this franchise has seen in a long time. Once Gerry leaves, he breaks down with host Jesse Palmer, saying that he hasn’t felt this bad since his wife died. He says he may not be able to recover from taking such a good person and breaking their heart.

Leslie joins Jesse in the studio, still teary eyed as she watches the breakup back. She tells Jesse that she felt heartbroken and blindsided all over again watching it. After their overnight, she felt “100%” certain that he was going to choose her, and she felt that she made a good impression on his family. But, she reiterates that she felt something was off when they left that meeting, as if he had a wall up. She tried to justify it with his explanation about his decision weighing on him, telling herself she had no reason to think anything was off. Looking back, that’s when she should have known.

She tells Jesse she was especially disappointed because, up to that moment, she had tried hard not to get ahead of herself or take the journey for granted. She always told herself she might not be chosen. But after their fantasy suite, she really felt like she was the one. In fact, she says she left the next morning and immediately chose her engagement dress and wrote her vows.

She asks him what happened, and he reiterates much of what he said during their initial breakup. He adds that every rose ceremony became harder as he realized that his heart wasn’t nearly as prepared for the process as his head was. She was who he believed was his person, until she wasn’t. He says once again that nothing went wrong, and he didn’t know how else to approach the situation. While not perfect, he did the best he could.

Leslie tells him she isn’t sure if she can accept his apology, but she understands him. He says he will always cherish their memories, and Leslie admits that she is still glad he said he loved her, because it opened her up to finding love with someone else.

Now, Gerry only has one woman left. He’s preparing to get down on one knee and propose to Theresa, hoping that Toni is guiding him along the way. He tells the cameras he’s comfortable with how she would feel about it.

And just like that, Gerry proposes to Theresa and offers her the final (golden) rose.

The happy couple joined Jesse in the studio to chat about their life post-engagement. While they still haven’t moved in with one another, Theresa says they talk on the phone for several hours every night. Gerry talks about his overnight date with Theresa, explaining that was when everything changed for him as he made some “subtle realizations” that she was the one for him. Any concerns he’d had, she addressed them before he ever had to ask about them.

In a surprise turn of events, Gerry announces that he and Theresa will be getting married asap! And all of Bachelor Nation is invited. Their wedding will be televised on January 4, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC .

golden journey comes to an end

Gerry Turner Got Engaged On The Golden Bachelor Finale, But It Turns Out His Journey Isn’t Over Yet

Spoiler alert! This story discusses the season finale of The Golden Bachelor , so make sure you’ve watched the November 30 episode before you continue reading.

Wow, what an emotional season finale that was. Jesse Palmer was right to warn Bachelor Nation about the heart-wrenching breakup we were about to endure on The Golden Bachelor , as Gerry Turner made his final choice between Leslie Fhima and Theresa Nist . There was laughter, there were tears (lots of those), there was an engagement, and a shocking announcement at the end. Palmer is pretty good at over-promising and under-delivering when it comes to such finale twists, but this one was genuinely exciting, as it turns out Gerry’s journey isn’t over yet.

Who Did Gerry Turner Choose?

First things first. In the two-hour season finale, Gerry Turner went on one final date with both Theresa Nist and Leslie Fhima, introducing them both to his daughters and granddaughters, before he would be asked to make his choice. However, after the Fantasy Suite dates — where he played it coy about whether or not boots were knocked — the Golden Bachelor indicated that he had made his choice, and unfortunately for Leslie, it was written all over his face in the final moments of their date.

After a truly devastating breakup, Gerry Turner got down on one knee and proposed to Theresa Nist. These two bonded on the first one-on-one date of the season, as they shared similar stories of losing the loves of their lives, and it was a connection that weathered the ups and downs of an emotional first run of The Golden Bachelor . The couple couldn’t have appeared happier on the “After the Final Rose” special, with Gerry sobbing as he watched back his proposal. But Jesse Palmer had a couple of surprises left for the happy couple and for the viewers.

Save The Date! Gerry And Theresa Are Getting Married Live On The Golden Wedding Special

During that fateful first one-on-one date, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist imagined what their lives would be like together, giddily deciding they wanted to learn Italian and travel to Italy. Well, ABC is making that happen, as they surprised the newly engaged couple with a romantic Italian getaway. Not just any getaway, either, but a honeymoon, as Gerry then revealed that he and Theresa were getting married — and sooner than we all might have thought.

The Golden Wedding will air on ABC on January 4, where we will get to see the first couple from the long-awaited spinoff say “I do” again, more than 50 years after Gerry and Theresa married their high school sweethearts, Toni and Billy, respectively.

Sure, I was hoping that Jesse Palmer was going to announce that The Golden Bachelorette was happening, but I’m certainly not going to complain about getting to see this whole group reunite again for more of Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s journey. The Golden Bachelor has come to an end for now, but I’ll definitely be saving the date for The Golden Wedding at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, January 4, on ABC, and you can see what else is coming in the new year with our 2024 TV schedule.

10 Best Poems about the End of a Journey

Table of Contents

Best Poems about the End of a Journey

1. closing chapter.

This poem touches upon the bittersweet nature of reaching a journey’s end. As one chapter concludes, it holds the promise of a fresh start, while echoing memories of the path traveled.

Whispers of yesterday fade with the sun, Journey’s end but tales have just begun, Steps retraced in the mind’s silent play, Marking an end, in a beautiful way.   Footprints on sand, washed by tide’s gentle sweep, Moments captured, in heart’s memory keep, Sunsets promise, a new dawn on display, Closing a chapter, in its own special way.   Endings are merely a pause, not goodbye, Destinies intertwined, under the sky, Journeys end, but memories forever stay, Marking their place, come what may.

2. The Final Mile

Reflecting on the resilience required to complete a taxing journey, this poem celebrates the triumphant feeling of accomplishment when facing life’s hurdles.

The final mile, the hardest yet, Challenges faced, no regret. Battles won, with courage and smile, Honoring every painstaking mile.   End in sight, strength starts to wane, Heart beats loudly, dispelling the pain. Triumph awaits, past struggles so vile, Rewarding the soul at the end of the mile.   With head held high and spirits revived, Journeys end, but spirit survived. Embracing the lessons, life did compile, Cherishing the end of the final mile.

3. Dusk’s Gentle Farewell

This poem encapsulates the serene and tranquil moments as a journey comes to its peaceful close, akin to a day ending with a serene sunset.

Golden rays, kissing the horizon’s line, Day’s end approaches, stars begin to shine. Journey’s whispers, in the breeze do tell, Of dusk’s gentle touch, a sweet farewell.   Shadows lengthen, embracing the ground, Silent reflections, in twilight are found. Endings bring peace, as night’s bell does knell, Marking the close with a soft farewell.   Night’s embrace, tender and profound, Darkness engulfs, yet beauty is unbound. As the journey concludes, in heart, it will dwell, Preserved by the grace of dusk’s farewell.

4. The Last Page

Drawing an analogy between a journey and a book, this poem emphasizes the emotions one feels when turning the last page, knowing the story is about to end.

A story unfolds, with each step we take, Twists and turns, for memories to make. Yet as we near, the story’s last cage, We hesitantly turn, the journey’s last page.   Tales of joy, and some tears shed, Moments cherished, where life has led. End of the road, emotions engage, Reading the lines of the concluding page.   Yet every end, begins a new tale, New journeys beckon, without fail. Life’s book continues, age to age, Beyond the confines of the last page.

5. At Journey’s End

Highlighting the deep introspection that often comes when a journey concludes, this poem speaks to the transformative power of experiences gathered along the way.

Mountains crossed, rivers wide, Challenges met, with time as guide. Heart now rests, no longer to fend, Finding its peace, at journey’s end.   Echoes of laughter, whispers of tears, Carrying lessons, from all those years. In quiet reflection, thoughts tend to blend, Grateful and changed, at journey’s end.   No final curtain, nor a close, Just a pause, a moment to repose. With soul enriched, and spirit to mend, We rise once more, past journey’s end.

6. The Road Behind

Paying homage to the past, this poem delves into the importance of remembering and honoring the road behind, even as we look forward to what lies ahead.

Gazing back, on the path I trod, Grains of time, against the odds. Twists and turns, around every bend, I now revere, the road behind.   Footprints mark, where I once stood, Echoes of choices, bad and good. Whispers of past, to ears they send, Tales of the times, on the road behind.   Eyes now forward, to horizons new, Yet the past provides, a vital clue. For as we march, life’s path we wind, Guided by lessons from the road behind.

7. Sunset’s Promise

This poem encapsulates the idea that every ending holds within it a promise of a new beginning, much like a sunset heralds the dawn of a new day.

Golden orb, dips below the sea, Marking an end, yet so free. In every conclusion, we’re destined to find, The beautiful promise, sunset’s mind.   Darkness descends, stars take their place, End of a chapter, in time’s endless race. Yet with every twilight, as day is resigned, Dawn awaits, in sunset’s design.   Embrace the close, with heart open wide, For in every end, new hopes reside. Life’s cycle continues, intertwined, In the eternal dance of sunset’s promise defined.

8. Echoes of a Journey

This poem captures the lingering memories and emotions that remain long after a journey has concluded, serving as a testament to its profound impact.

Whispers of places, once roamed, Echoes of laughter, in heart, they’ve homed. Though journey’s done, its essence does stay, Alive in the heart, come what may.   Footsteps faded, but impressions remain, Of joyous moments, and times of pain. As tales are retold, emotions sway, Reverberating echoes, of a journey’s ballet.   Time moves on, yet memories persist, Of moments captured, in fate’s clenched fist. Endings are merely, a slight delay, For echoes continue, in a timeless relay.

9. Bridges Crossed

Reflecting on the bridges we cross during our journeys, this poem speaks to the connections we make, the challenges we overcome, and the growth we experience along the way.

Bridges behind, mark where I’ve been, Spanning life’s rivers, sights I’ve seen. Every crossing, a testament to grace, Of challenges faced, in life’s relentless pace.   Wooden or stone, sturdy or frail, They’ve held my steps, without fail. Endings approached, but on bridges, I paused, Honoring the journey, and the bridges crossed.   Forward I move, with gratitude in heart, For every bridge, played a vital part. Though the journey ends, its spirit is bossed, By memories made, and bridges crossed.

10. The Silent Harbor

This poem paints the picture of a journey akin to a voyage at sea. As the ship finds its silent harbor, it brings to a close an epic adventure, promising rest and reflection.

Turbulent seas, now a distant dream, The ship finds calm, under moon’s soft beam. Sails lowered gently, anchors descend far, Finding its solace, in the silent harbor.   Waves that once roared, now softly lap, End of the voyage, marked on the map. In still waters, reflections start to spar, Echoing tales, in the silent harbor.   Though journey’s end, the spirit sails on, For the heart’s voyage, is never truly gone. Resting momentarily, like a night’s shining star, In the comforting arms of the silent harbor.

golden journey comes to an end

It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.

Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.

To finish the moment, to find the journey's end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.

Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.

Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey.

golden journey comes to an end

Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.

Find the journey's end in every step.

Never make your home in a place. Make a home for yourself inside your own head. You'll find what you need to furnish it - memory, friends you can trust, love of learning, and other such things. That way it will go with you wherever you journey.

Does the road wind up-hill all the way? Yes, to the very end.

They spoke less and less between them until at last they were silent altogether as is often the way with travelers approaching the end of a journey.

To live the greatest number of good hours is wisdom.

. . . long journeys are strange things: if we were always to continue in the same mind we are in at the end of a journey, we should never stir from the place we were then in . . .

Does the road wind up-hill all the way? Yes, to the very end. Will the day's journey take the whole long day? From morn to night, my friend.

Nothing is so awesomely unfamiliar as the familiar that discloses itself at the end of a journey. Nothing shakes the heart so much as meeting-far, far away-what you last met at home.

The years seem to rush by now, and I think of death as a fast approaching end of a journey-double and treble reason for loving as well as working while it is day.

Though the most beautiful creature were waiting for me at the end of a journey or a walk; though the carpet were of silk, the curtains of the morning clouds; the chairs and sofa stuffed with cygnet's down; the food manna, the wine beyond claret, the window opening on Winander Mere, I should not feel -or rather my happiness would not be so fine, as my solitude is sublime.

long journeys are strange things: if we were always to continue in the same mind we are in at the end of a journey, we should never stir from the place we were then in: but Providence in kindness to us causes us to forget it. It is much the same with lying-in women. Heaven permits this forgetfulness that the world may be peopled, and that folks may take journeys to Provence.

My father was my mother's home, the one place that she knew she could be safe. It was all a journey of faith for him, and I think he felt like if you don't find more love and understanding at the end of a journey like that, then you are lost - and if you only find hate and resentment, it will destroy you. I believe that.

We have found quotes for graduating, retiring, or going on a journey. And if you consider death an end-of-journey event, we also have selections.

Graduation is undoubtedly a significant life event. So here are some post-worthy quotes to use as you (or your friend or family member) enter the next phase of life.

1. “The heights by great men reached and kept/ Were not attained by sudden flight,/ But they, while their companions slept,/ Were toiling upward in the night.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Share this quote with someone who persevered through a tough educational challenge.

2. “It has always seemed strange to me that in our endless discussions about education so little stress is laid on the pleasure of becoming an educated person, the enormous interest it adds to life. To be able to be caught up into the world of thought – that is to be educated.” – Edith Hamilton

Perhaps the graduate may not feel the “pleasure of becoming an educated person” so soon after graduation.

3. “You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world.” – Tom Brokaw

Sometimes the best part about ending a phase of life is looking forward to the next one.

4. “Instruction ends in the schoolroom, but education ends only with life.” – Frederick W. Robertson

Sometimes the most important lessons are learned outside the classroom.

Some count the days until retirement, and others look at it with trepidation. Here are quotes that describe both types of outlooks.

5. “At every point in the human journey we find that we have to let go in order to move forward; and letting go means dying a little. In the process we are being created anew, awakened afresh to the source of our being.” – Kathleen R. Fischer

Surprisingly, you may find it hard to let go of your job. So here are some words of encouragement for those who face retirement with trepidation.

6. “Getting something done is an accomplishment; getting something done right is an achievement.” – Unknown

Are you celebrating someone who contributed significantly to your organization? Here’s a quote for someone who always went above and beyond.

7. “What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

As you reflect on your career and look forward to your future endeavors, remember that WHO you are is just as important as what you have accomplished (or will accomplish.)

There are a lot of quotes about embarking on a trip or adventure. However, few can describe the bittersweet end of a journey. So, here are some end-of-a-journey quotes that may help explain how you feel.

8. “Each difficult moment has the potential to open my eyes and open my heart.” – Myla Kabat-Zinn

Sometimes trips are difficult and painful. This quote describes how to look on the bright side of such experiences.

9. “Not all those who wander are lost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

You've likely seen this quote on Instagram posts or used by travel bloggers. Yes, this quote is overused. However, it may perfectly describe your love of adventure.

10. “I am not the same, having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.” – Mary Anne Radmacher

We love this quote! International travel – especially to countries significantly different from yours – can irrevocably change you.

11. “Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

We have all had that painful travel experience. Hopefully, yours changed you for the better.

12. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by” — Robert Frost

This quote is from Robert Frost’s famous poem “The Road Not Traveled.” It’s often used at graduations but could work for any journey.

13. “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” – John A. Shedd

Please accept our condolences if you recently lost a loved one. You may be looking for quotes about death for the funeral slideshow or service, so here are some to consider.

Turn to Cake’s blog for additional help. These quotes might tell you if your loved one traveled a difficult road. And, of course, you might need help writing the eulogy for the service.

14. “It is the will of God and Nature that these mortal bodies be laid aside, when the soul is to enter into real life; ’tis rather an embryo state, a preparation for living; a man is not completely born until he be dead: Why then should we grieve that a new child is born among the immortals?” – Benjamin Franklin

This quote is perfect for someone who needs reassurance that their loved one is enjoying the afterlife.

15. “There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, and people we can’t live without but have to let go.” – Unknown

Some end-of-journey quotes focus on the deceased, while this encourages those left behind.

16. “For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity.” – William Penn

Here’s another quote about continuing life’s journey after death.

17. “When he shall die/ Take him and cut him out in little stars/ And he will make the face of heav’n so fine/ That all the world will be in love with night/ And pay no worship to the garish sun.” – William Shakespeare

These lines from Romeo and Juliet give a romantic view of death. Juliet speaks these words about her star-crossed lover.

18. “I can assure you that those who have already passed have not only made it to the Other Side, but are in a state of bliss.” – Sylvia Browne

Sylvia Browne wrote these reassuring words in the Journal of Love & Healing.

19. “There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning.” – Thornton Wilder

Thornton Wilder was an American playwright, most famous for his work “Our Town.”

20. “Death is nothing at all,/ I have only slipped into the next room/ I am I and you are you/ whatever we were to each other, that we are still.” – Henry Scott Holland

These beautiful lines open Henry Scott Holland’s poem “All Is Well.” You may consider using this piece during your loved one’s service or funeral slideshow.

21. “Your body is away from me/ but there is a window open/ from my heart to yours./ From this window, like the moon/ I keep sending news secretly.” – Rumi

Can poems be considered quotes? We think so. This short piece is “The Window” by Rumi. Readers will be comforted by the idea that their loved one is on the ultimate journey.

22. “The journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take” – J.R.R. Tolkien

This is the second quote by Tolkien on our list.

23. “For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one” – Khalil Gibran

Khalil Gibran is the author of “The Prophet.”

24. “Only a moment you stayed, but what an imprint your footprints have left on our hearts” – Dorothy Ferguson

Are you saying goodbye to someone who wasn’t long on this Earth? Here is a quote to describe how you feel about your loved one’s passing.

25. “Perhaps passing through the gates of death is like passing quietly through the gate in a pasture fence. On the other side, you keep walking, without the need to look back. No shock, no drama, just the lifting of a plank or two in a simple wooden gate in a clearing. Neither pain, nor floods of light, nor great voices, but just the silent crossing of a meadow” – Mark Helprin

This quote could also offer great comfort to someone suffering a loss.

26. “Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation” – Rumi

This quote could be used for many different purposes – for someone retiring, moving, – or for someone who passed.

The End? Or a New Beginning?

We hope these quotes offer comfort and peace to those of you who are facing a significant transition. You may also look for poems or songs about journeys and change. Even if these words are no comfort, you may feel some solace knowing that others have faced similar difficulties.

GUIDE: How To Write A Great Subject Line

As we mentioned above, crafting a catchy subject line is critical to the performance of your email campaign.

While just a few words may seem like a small piece of your overall message, this is the first impression your audience will have before they decide whether to open your email.

If your subject line isn't engaging or appealing enough, there's a chance it could get buried in your reader's inbox.

Let's go over the proven tips on how to craft a subject line that boosts engagement:

What makes a great subject line?

First, let's discuss the fundamentals of creating a great subject line:

  • Spark interest and curiosity
  • A clear and urgent call to action
  • An offer/intriguing discount
  • Personalization (this can be done by sending out different versions of emails to subscribers based on their preferences)
  • Relevance - make sure your subject line covers the current trends and topics within your industry

5 Tips To Crafting a Great Subject Line

Now, let's dive into the specifics of how to create a great subject line for your next campaign:

1. Use a familiar sender name

Although this may seem obvious, it's a piece many marketers miss the ball on.

Your readers want to feel like your email is coming from a human and not a corporation or automated system.

One of the easiest and most effective ways to do this is by changing the sender's name to YOUR name or someone in the company that is well known.

Here's a great example of this from Marketing Examples

article

Avoid the "no-reply" sender name at all costs. This makes your email feel unfamiliar, unapproachable, and less personable.

2. Keep your subject short and to the point

If your subject line is too long, it will get cut off, which could impact your reader's chances of opening your email.

The rule of thumb (for both mobile and desktop) is to keep your subject line under 50 characters.

3. Add personal touches to your subject line

If you have access to information about your subscriber (ie. name, location, etc), you can use this to benefit your subject line and catch your readers attention.

It's important not to go overboard here, but adding even the simplest touch such as their name can build trust and rapport.

Here's a great example of a personalized email + offer I received from BarkBox with my dog's name in the subject line:

4. Avoid making any false promises

Your subject line makes a commitment to your reader, so it's important you don't stretch the truth just to simply get more opens and clicks.

In the grand scheme of things, making false promises will end up hurting your open rate as your readers will lose trust in you.

5. Give them a sneak peek of what's inside

Telling your subscriber what is inside helps with open and clicks.

For example, if you're providing your reader with a free guide or e-book, consider making your subject line something along the lines of:

"Your FREE marketing e-book awaits!"

If you want your email campaign to perform well, it all starts with your subject line.

Think about the emails you receive in your inbox and what makes you click vs what gets buried - odds are, the same habits go for your customer.
