Updated 25/10/2023 at 19:58 GMT

The 946.3 kilometre route for the 2024 Tour de France Femmes has been revealed by race directors Christian Prudhomme and Marion Rousse. It features a mixture of flat stages, an individual time trial, two hilly stages, two mountain stages and a finale in the Alps. It has also been moved from late July to mid August to accommodate the Olympics, with the eight-stage race running from August 12-18.

Everything you need to know about the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2024

The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift is the biggest stage race in women’s professional cycling, and will take place from August 12 to August 18 in 2024, slightly after the men’s race to accommodate the Paris 2024 Olympics. As the name suggests, the Tour de France Femmes is the women’s version of the world’s most famous cycling race, the Tour de France . Though shorter, at eight stages, it takes in a similar format to the men’s event, featuring sprinting, time trials and decisive mountain stages in the iconic French mountains.

Along with the Giro d'Italia Women and the Vuelta Femenina , the Tour de France Femmes is part of the trio of races that make up the women's equivalent Grand Tours, and are the most important stage races on the calendar .

The Tour de France Femmes and its yellow jersey are the domain of the biggest names in the women’s peloton, with Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) and Demi Vollering (SD Worx) winning the first two editions respectively, whilst Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx), Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) and Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx) have all won stages and worn the famous maillot jaune.

In 2024, the race will head into its third edition, and the next step as ASO look to build a long-lasting and growing race that will be at the centre of women’s cycling for years to come. The biggest step-up for the 2024 edition will be the race’s first foreign Grand Départ, as the Tour heads to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. What will follow will be eight varied stages over seven days of racing, before a climb-heavy finale in the Alps that will decide the third winner of the Tour de France Femmes.

Tour de France Femmes 2024 schedule, past results & previous winners

When is the Tour de France Femmes 2024? The Tour de France Femmes will start on August 12, 2024 and finish on August 18, 2024.

Where does the Tour de France Femmes take place? The Tour de France Femmes will take place primarily in France, but in 2024 the race will start in the Netherlands, its first-ever foreign Grand Départ.

Who won the Tour de France Femmes in 2023? The 2023 race was won by Demi Vollering (SD Worx) ahead of her teammate Lotte Kopecky, and Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM). Vollering took the lead with a big victory on the Col du Tourmalet.

Who won the first Tour de France Femmes? The first edition of the Tour de France Femmes in 2022 was won by Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) after a commanding performance on the mountainous final weekend.

Tour de France Femmes 2024 route: Alpe d'Huez finale awaits after Dutch départ

The route for the 2024 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will feature the most famous Alpine climb of them all, Alpe d'Huez, for the first time in its history.

After departing Rotterdam, the Tour de France Femmes' first Grand Départ, the route offers something for everyone with sprint opportunities and a 6.3km-long time trial before a decisive doubleheader in the Alps.

The full route of the 2024 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift was officially revealed on October 25 by race organisers ASO. Taking in three countries over seven days and eight stages, the race has a total distance of 946.3km - the shortest overall route so far in the race's history.

The most eye-catching feature of the route for the 3rd edition of the Tour de France Femmes is the inclusion of Alpe d'Huez, a somewhat logical next step after the first two editions featured the Planche des Belles Filles and Col du Tourmalet as their respective Queen stages.

However, neither offer the test that the Alpe provides. At 13.8km in length and with an average gradient of 8.5% across its 21 famous hairpins, the climb is the perfect place to determine the third owner of Tour de France Femmes' maillot jaune. Stage 8 includes 3,900m of climbing in total, with the Col du Glandon serving as the highest point across the eight stages at 1,924m.

The Tour de France Femmes will culminate atop Alpe d'Huez for the first time

It's not just the final day that will test the climbers though, with four mountain ranges included in the 2024 route: the Ardennes, Vosges, Jura and Alps. Stage 7 on the penultimate day is likely to serve as a perfect warm-up for the Queen stage, leaving the Jura and tackling five categorised climbs on the way to Le Grand-Bornand.

Before the weekend finale in the mountains though, there's Classics-style days and a short time trial to contend with for the riders.

A Dutch Grand Départ in Rotterdam, the largest port city in the world, will offer sprint opportunities from the get-go, provided crosswinds from the North Sea don't blow the race apart. A split stage on day two features a short individual time trial in the afternoon, much less decisive than last year's final day TT though. At 6.3km and tackled on wide, non-technical roads, it will be a stage for the specialists to flourish.

Leaving the Netherlands behind on stage 4, the race will enter the north of France via Belgium, with a Classics-style 122km stage from Valkenburg to Liège swamped in history. The Cauberg, Geulhemmerberg and two ascents of the Bemmelerberg are tackled early on before some of Liège-Bastogne-Liège's most iconic climbs are thrown into the mix for good measure too. Mont-Theux, the Côte de la Redoute, the Côte des Forges and the Côte de la Roche aux Faucons all feature before a downhill finish in Liège.

With this mixture of Classics-style and high mountains stages, the 2024 Tour de France Femmes is spoiling us in terms of entertainment. What it lacks in length being 14km shorter than the 2023 edition and 67km less than the inaugural route, it makes up for in diversity with opportunities for just about any rider, whether that be on the cobbles of the Ardennes or the steep slopes of Alpe d'Huez.

Who are the riders to watch at the Tour de France Femmes 2024?

As the biggest stage race on the women’s calendar, the Tour de France Femmes is the race that everyone wants to go to, and as a result we can expect a star-studded list of all the very best riders to line up in Rotterdam next August. Some will be just happy to start, but others will be targeting stage wins, a jersey, or the overall.

Atop the list of riders to watch will most certainly be defending overall champion Demi Vollering (SD Worx). In the absence of 2022 winner Annemiek van Vleuten, Vollering will be the only former winner of the race in the bunch, and will have her eyes set firmly on a second-consecutive victory. With easily the best stage racing pedigree of the current pros, and the world’s best team surrounding her, it’s not hard to imagine that the Dutchwoman will pull that feat off.

Hoping to improve on her back-to-back third-place finishes will be Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM), who looks likely to be one of Vollering’s main rivals. The Polish rider excelled on the Tourmalet stage of the 2023 race, and is the kind of rider who can be there on the climbs but also - crucially - be aggressive on the punchier stages, which is important when it comes to winning a week-long race such as the Tour.

Outside of the riders who already have wins and podium finishes under their belt, there is a big group of riders who will be hoping to step onto the Tour podium for the first time in 2024. FDJ-SUEZ will have Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and Marta Cavalli to choose between, Jayco-AlUla will look to new arrival Mavi García to chase the overall, whilst dsm-firmenich will be counting on home favourite Juliette Labous, who often shines in stage races.

As a team, Lidl-Trek have perhaps the most options: will Giro d’Italia Donne podium finisher Gaia Realini make her debut? Could Elisa Longo Borghini make a proper attempt at the overall? Or will proven climber Amanda Spratt be their leader? With plenty of strength and options for stage wins too, the American team will be hoping to challenge SD Worx and Demi Vollering’s grip on this race.

Which teams are racing the Tour de France Femmes 2024?

The 2024 Tour de France Femmes will see all 15 Women’s WorldTour teams line up for the start in the Netherlands, plus the two highest-ranked Continental teams , and a selection of five other Continental teams, most likely including several French squads.

Tour de France Femmes jerseys

The jersey winners at the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

The jersey winners at the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

The special jerseys and classifications at the women’s Tour de France are exactly the same as the ones on offer at the men’s race, bar a slight change in eligibility for the young riders’ jersey.

Yellow jersey (maillot jaune) - the iconic Tour de France yellow jersey is given to the overall leader of the general classification, the rider who has completed the stages so far in the shortest time possible.

Polka dot jersey (maillot à pois) - the polka dot jersey is awarded to the leader of the Queen of the Mountains competition. Rather than time, this competition is based on points, with varying tallies of points available for the first rider to the summit of each categorised climb on the route.

Green jersey (maillot vert) - the green jersey denotes the sprint competition, and is once again decided on points, with scoring available at the finishes of stages and intermediate sprints, with the finishes of flat stages carrying the bulk of the points.

White jersey (maillot blanc) - the white jersey goes to the best young rider in the general classification. At the Tour de France Femmes, a young rider is defined as those 23 and under.

What happened in the Tour de France Femmes 2023?

The Tour de France Femmes 2023 was won by Demi Vollering, who took the yellow jersey from her teammate Lotte Kopecky by winning the climactic Col du Tourmalet stage, after Kopecky had put in an impressive performance to lead the race up until that point.

After taking nearly two minutes on the Tourmalet, all Vollering had to do was defend that lead on the final-day time trial around Pau, and she duly did, finishing behind stage winner and teammate Marlen Reusser to secure her win and upgrade her second-place finish from 2022.

Though the likes of Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes did win stages, the race will also be remembered for the string of underdog wins that defined the middle of week. Young riders Yara Kastelijn and Ricarda Bauernfeind both took maiden WorldTour wins in France with impressive solo performances, whilst a spirited breakaway ride from Emma Norsgaard saw her hold off the peloton on the line to win the sixth stage.

Tour de France Femmes history

With how prestigious the race already is, it’s easy to forget that the Tour de France Femmes avec Femmes is only two years old. Added to the calendar in 2022 after much clamour for a women’s Tour de France, the race was announced in 2021, and the first edition took place the following summer, with a sophomore, stepped-up edition coming in 2023.

Prior to the Tour de France Femmes, ASO’s offering for the women’s peloton was La Course by Le Tour, though even this was a recent invention. La Course was launched in 2014 after a campaign by Marianne Vos, Emma Pooley, Chrissie Wellington and Kathryn Bertine, and was originally a circuit race around the Champs-Élysées on the final day of the men’s Tour, though later editions were held in the mountains and elsewhere, during the men’s race. It was meant to evolve gradually into a proper stage race, but this didn’t really happen, bar one attempt at a two-day event 2017.

Perhaps fittingly, Marianne Vos won the first edition of La Course

Perhaps fittingly, Marianne Vos won the first edition of La Course

However, the history of the women’s Tour de France goes back much further than the ASO’s involvement. We can find examples of women’s Tours de France as far back as the 1950s, and several editions of the Tour de France Féminin were held in the 1980s. These 80s races featured hard courses, often tackling most of the same stages and climbs that the men’s race did, making them long and difficult - truly Grand Tours. These races struggled to survive, though - especially once they were banned from using the ‘Tour de France’ name - and through the 90s and 2000s, races like the Route de France and the Tour de l’Ardèche were the closest the women’s peloton had to a French Grand Tour.

La Vuelta Femenina 2024: Route, How to Watch, and Favorites

Demi Vollering, Kasia Niewiadoma, and Gaia Realini will battle for the red jersey on the challenging eight-stage tour across Spain.

9th la vuelta femenina 2023 stage 5

Gear-obsessed editors choose every product we review. We may earn commission if you buy from a link. How we test gear.

As of this Sunday, April 29, we’re officially in Grand Tour season, as the eight-stage Vuelta Femenina kicks off with a 16-kilometer team time trial in Valencia, Spain.

9th la vuelta femenina 2023 stage 7

Last year’s race covered just over 740 kilometers over the course of its seven stages. It was won by Movistar’s Annemiek van Vleuten , who, with the win, became the first woman to win all three of the major women’s stage races (the Vuelta, along with the Tour de France Femmes, and the Giro Donne). She beat SD Worx’s Demi Vollering but just nine seconds. Trek-Segafredo’s Gaia Realini rounded out the podium in third.

But van Vleuten retired after last season, meaning there’s no chance for a repeat winner. And given the variety of winners we’ve seen in the women’s peloton this spring, this race is truly up for grabs.

This year’s race adds a stage, making it eight in total. All of them stick exclusively to Spain’s northwest and northcentral regions.

It kicks off with what should be a blistering team time trial over 16 lake-flat kilometers. From there, the second stage will take riders from Buñol to Moncofa over 118 hilly kilometers, including just one Category 3 climb. As that climb comes 40 kilometers from the finish, expect a bunch sprint.

The third stage is a 131-kilometer medium mountain stage that will take riders from Lucena to Teruel and feature another Category 3 ascent. Stage four covers 142 kilometers from Molina de Aragón to Zaragoza and is mostly downhill from start to finish.

map

The 113 kilometers of stage 5 are where the peloton first gets into proper mountains, with a pair of category 2 climbs—one of which provides the day’s summit finish—on the menu. Stage 6 is the opposite of stage 4, taking riders on a daylong gradual uphill from Tarazona to Laguna Negra, ending with a category 1 summit finish that very well could determine the race’s overall winner.

Stage 7 could be the last chance for the sprinters to leave their mark. However, the final 500 meters of the day’s 126 kilometers ramp up to 10%, so look for a punchier rider to take the win there.

The Vuelta Feminina will end with an 89-kilometer ride from Distrito Telefónca to ValdesquíMadrid. The ride features a pair of category-1 climbs, the last of which leads to the race’s final finish line.

Complete information on each stage can be found here .

How to Watch

The Vuelta Feminina will be broadcast in the US via Peacock , which costs $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year. In Canada, the race will be broadcast via FloSports , which costs $12.50 per month or $150 per year.

Riders to Watch

While the final roster for the race is yet to be final, several confirmed names promise another competitive edition. Among the riders targeting the general classification are Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift champion Demi Vollering of SD Worx-Protime, Gaia Realini of Lidl-Trek, who graced the podium last year, and the consistently impressive Kasia Niewiadoma of SD Worx-Protime. With the absence of retired defending champion Anemiek Van Vleuten and Vollering showing signs of wavering form this season, the battle for the coveted red jersey appears wide open.

Other riders to watch are the 2024 Tour of Flanders champion Elisa Longo Borghini of Lidl-Trek, Canyon//SRAM’s Ricarda Bauernfeind , and Mavi García of Liv Alula Jayco.

2023 Tour de France Femmes route

Everything you need to know about all eight routes from Clermont-Ferrand to the iconic Tourmalet summit and time trial finale in Pau

Tour de France Femmes 2023 Map

The route for the 2023 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift hits new heights with 956 kilometres and a grand finale in the Pyrenees with a mountaintop finish on the iconic Tourmalet on stage 7 and a final stage 8 time trial in Pau.

The rebirth of the Tour de France Femmes began in Paris in 2022 and next year's 2024 edition will begin in Rotterdam, Netherlands . This year's edition of the eight days of racing will begin in the Massif Central on July 23, 2023, in the city of Clermont-Ferrand, the capital of the Auvergne region.

It is the second edition of the rebirth of the women's Tour de France after a successful return last year saw the race begin on the famed Champs-Élysées and at the top of La Planche des Belles Filles where Annemiek van Vleuten claimed the yellow jersey and the overall title.

The 2023 Tour de France Femmes is set to take place from July 23 to 30 and will take in a whole new area of France.

The Grand Départ moved away from the hustle and bustle of the Paris circuits – and out from under the men's race – and begin in an all-new location in 2023.

"This route is different. We want to explore new regions and tackle other mountain ranges. There are some similarities, too, as we built this on a robust framework using the same key ingredients that made it a success last summer," said Tour de France race director Christian Prudhomme, together with Tour de France Femmes race director Marion Rousse on stage at the Palais des Congrès.

Rousse agreed with the route similarities and overall structure, stating that although the race will not begin in Paris on the same platform as the final stage 21 of the three-week men's event, the route will continue in its new tradition of carrying on the Tour de France brand with the women's race during a 'fourth week'.

"The women will race eight stages from Sunday to Sunday and extend the drama for a fourth week with the same script focusing on the feats and failures of the champions, and the role of breakthrough characters against a magnificent backdrop. Like last year, there will be similarities between the two courses," Rousse said.

Cyclingnews will have live coverage of all eight stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, along with race reports, galleries, results, and exclusive features and news.

Profile for stage 1 of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

The race will open for stage 1 on July 23 in Clermont-Ferrand for a 124km flat race with a decisive final that includes the Côte de Durtol (1.7km), a perfect launch-pad for attacks, located 9km before the finish in Clermont-Ferrand.

However, the ascent will likely not be challenging enough to separate the sprinters in the field and so riders such as Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx) will aim to, once again, win the opener and take the first yellow jersey of the eight-day race.

Wiebes left the Giro d'Italia Donne early, after securing a stage win, so that she could focus specifically on the Tour de France Femmes sprints.

Other riders who will make a mark on the stage will be Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma), Maike van der Duin (Canyon-SRAM Racing), and Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek), who returns to the Tour de France Femmes having recovered from injuries sustained in a crash at the Ride London Classique.

With the coveted jersey up for grabs, watch for an all-out battle for the finish line in Clermont-Ferrand.

  • Stage 2: Clermont-Ferrand to Mauriac, 148km (hilly)

Profiles for stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

The second day of racing on July 24 sees stage 2 begin in Clermont-Ferrand with a 148km hilly route into Mauriac with 2,500 metres of elevation.

The route will include six ascents; Côte de Mont-Dore (1.3km at 6.6%), Côte de a Stèle (1.8km at 5.1%), Côte des Plaines (4.5km at 5.5%), Côte des Boissieres (1.2km at 7.2%), pass through the finish line for a final circuit that then includes ascents over Côte de Merlhac (1.9km at 5.5%) and Côte de Trébiac (3.5km at 5.8%) located just 1.5km from the finish line in Mauriac.

The hilly circuit might not be challenging enough to ride the likes of Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx) but it is perfect for her teammate Lotte Kopecky, who indicated that she would play a support role but also a wildcard at the eight-day race.

A great stage for the puncheurs, also look for a breakaway to gain time on the field, riders like Elisa Longo Borghini and Lizzie Deignan (Lidl-Trek), Grace Brown (FDJ-SUEZ) will also be aiming for success in Clermont-Ferrand.

Stage 3: Collonges-La-Rouge to Montignac-Lascaux, 147km (flat)

Profiles for stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

The peloton will contest a flatter route on stage 3, July 25, and another opportunity for the fast women of the peloton.

The race for the green points jersey will likely be heating up at this stage of the race and riders in contention for that special classification will be eyeing every opportunity before the race hits the mountains.

The stage 3, a 147km route, begins in Collonges-La-Rouge, and even though it is mostly flat, it still includes five shorter ascents; Côte du Peyroux (4.8km at 4%), Côte du Pératel (2km at 5.3%), Côte de l'Escurotte (2.6km at 4.7%), Côte de Andrieux (2.6km at 4.1%) and Côte de Saint-Robert (1.1km at 6.2%), so it won't be an 'easy' day for anyone in the field.

Following the ascents there is a flat 10km to the finish line in Montignac-Lascaux.

Stage 4: Cahors to Rodez, 177km (hilly)

Profiles for stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

It's back to the hills on July 26 with stage 4's lumpy 177km race into Rodez. It also marks the longest stage of the event with an altitude gain of 2,400 metres.

More than just a transfer stage, the race will begin in Cahors, and the route will include five ascents. Col de Crayssac (2.3km at 4.8%) is at the start of the stage, and then it's flat through the valley where a breakaway could set off ahead of the final selection of climbs.

The late-race succession of climbs are Côte de Sant-Jean-de-Laur (3km at 4%), Côte de Colombiès (5.5km at 4.2%), Côte de Moyrazès (4.6km at 5.5%), Côte de Lavernhe (2.2km at 7.1%) and Côte Saint-Pierre (570m at 10.1%).

After cresting the last ascent, the peloton will descend the final nine kilometres into Rodez.

Stage 5: Onet-Le-Château to Albi, 126km (flat)

Profiles for stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

As the race heads further south into the Pyrénées, stage 5 on July 27, will begin in Onet-Le-Château.

It is one of the flatter stages with a 126km route that will include four ascents: Côte des Combalous (800m at 8.1%), Côte de Najac (2.1km at 7.4%), Côte de Laguépie (1.5km at 9%) and Côte de Monestiés (1.6km at 6.4%).

The peloton will then descend into a flat 10km run-in to Albi.

Last year, one of the main discussion topics was the speed at which the peloton raced every single day. These flat to hilly stages into the foothills of the Pyrénées will be raced aggressively as teams undoubtedly try to wear down the GC contenders such as Annemiek van Vleuten and Demi Vollering in the battle for the overall classification.

Likewise, teams with strong sprinters will be vying for every opportunity at a bunch kick to the finish line in Albi.

Stage 6: Albi to Blagnac, 122km (flat)

Profiles for stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

Albi will also be the start of stage 6 on July 28, and at this point of the race, the overall classification could still be wide open for the taking.

The 122km flat route will include four ascents; Côte de La Cadène (2.5km at 4.5%), Côte de Puycelsi (1.8km at 6%), Côte du Clos Pourtié (2.6km at 4.8%) and Côte de la Gayre (1km at 4.9%) before a flat finish into Blagnac.

It will likely be the last day for the sprinters as the race heads to the Tourmalet on stage 7 and a time trial in Pau on stage 8.

Stage 7: Lannemezan to Tourmalet Bagnères-de-Bigorre, 90km (mountain)

Profiles for stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

The queen stage of the Tour de France Femmes takes place on the penultimate stage 7 on July 29 with a summit finish at the iconic Tourmalet, an ascent that race director Marion Rousse said will forever be inscribed into the history of the event .

The 90km route will begin in Lannemezan and tackle the Col d'Aspin (12km at 6.5%) first before the final ascent to the Col du Tourmalet (17km at 7.3%), marking the most decisive stage of the event.

It will almost certainly be a decider in the general classification and a possible place for a showdown between defending champion Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar), who recently won the Giro d'Italia Donne for the fourth time in her career ,  and Demi Vollering (SD Worx). But do not discount other climbing talents such as Juliette Labous (Team DSM-Firmenich) and Gaia Realini (Lidl-Trek), nor FDJ-SUEZ duo Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and Marta Cavalli, Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ) and Mavi Garcia (Liv Racing TeqFind).

At last year's Tour de France Femmes, Van Vleuten launched a rampage through the Vosges where won back-to-back mountain finishes at Le Markstein and La Planche des Belles Filles to win the overall title.

This year, however, the Tour de France Femmes will end with an individual time trial in Pau.

Stage 8: Pau to Pau, 22.6km (ITT)

Profiles for stages of the 2023 Tour de France Femmes

New to the Tour de France Femmes, and a highly requested addition, the race will culminate with an individual time trial on July 30.

Stage 8 will take place in Pau and the peloton will race a 22km time trial to close out the event and if the gaps in the general classification are close, this will be the test that could decide the overall champion of the Tour de France Femmes.

Annemiek van Vleuten is a former two-time time trial world champion and the Olympic champion in the discipline. If she hasn't sealed her place at the top of the GC, she could still win it in Pau, but she will have tough competition from other strong time trialists in the field.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
