Bob Seger (real name, Robert Clark Seger) is one of the great American singer–songwriters, out of Detroit, Michigan, US, who has been recording in numerous configurations since the 1960’s.
Among his many projects have been Bob Seger and the Last Heard, the Bob Seger System and the Silver Bullet Band.
He plays a grassroots, iconic style of American rock, a style that he along with other singer–songwriters including Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp formalised as ‘heartland rock’. It is musically simple, with storytelling songwriting coveying truths of blue-collar life. Seger’s music, typical of hearland rock, is based on the foundation of music serving a social purpose beyond entertainment and enjoyment.
After having released a handful of recordings to moderate success in the 1960s, Seger formed the Silver Bullet Band in 1974 with a selection of Detroit musicians including guitarist Drew Abbott, drummer Charlie Allen Martin, keyboardist Rick Mannassa, bassist Chris Campbell and saxophonist Alto Reed. The outfit broke out with their hit “Get Out of Denver” off their 1974 album, “Seven”.
Seger achieved widespread commercial success with the Silver Bullet Band with 1976 album “Nightmoves”. The title track reached Number 4 on the Billboard pop singles chart.
Perhaps Seger’s best-known recording is “Old Time Rock and Roll”, written by George Jackson and recorded by the Silver Bullet Band for their 1979 album “Stranger in Town”. The track itself is a retrograde look at early rock and roll, with a joyful simplicity nodding towards the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. It was named one of the Songs of the Century in 2001 and scored Number 100 in AFI’s 100 years…100 Songs poll in 2004.
Amongst his others are the hits “Turn the Page”, “We’ve Got Tonight”, “Against the Wind” and “Shakedown”, which Seger recorded for Beverly Hills Cop II and became a Number 1 hit of Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for the Acedemy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Seger also co-wrote The Eagles’ Number 1 hit “Heartache Tonight”.
Live reviews
The place was packed and filled with excitement. I had never seen Bob Seger and was really pumped to the get the chance. He is a rock legend and has so many hit songs it is very hard to list them all. He played a very long set, about 2 and a half hours.
He opened with the classic rock anthem “Shakedown” and then played the song “Night Moves” which the crowd all sang along with. He then went through all of his other hits like “ Old Time Rock and Roll” and “Against the Wind”. He closed his show with “Turn the Page” another rock anthem that is a staple of classic rock stations all around the world.
He did two more encores that were really good. His band was great and really was tight with him. I am not sure how long they have been with him, but they all really seemed to play great together. The crowd was on the older side and there were not a lot of young people. But the place was packed and sold out. He also did a solo version of this 1990’s song “The Real Love” which was a favorite of mine when I was younger .

In the seventies I used to go all over Michigan catching Bob Seger concerts, went as far as Toledo Ohio. Every show I went to was fantastic, the crowds he draws are great to enjoy the music with and he always puts on a great show. Brought my older sister to her first concert in 1974 in Michigan when she came to visit and we had a great time, now my sister is here in Florida visiting family and I am taking her to see Bob Seger Feb 3rd in Ft. Meyers, it is a two hour drive but I couldn't get decent seats in Tampa and I was on in the first 15 mins tickets where on sale for fan members and the floor seats were gone in the time I got through. So it will be a two hour drive down, but I love all his music and it will probably be the last time I get to see him.
His music is what got me through those rough teenage years and still makes me feel better in my older sick years. Come out and see him where ever you are, you won't be sorry or pick up his new album Ride out.
I'm 58 year's young.I grew up in "The Region" ( Northwest Indiana). Bob has been the back bone of the music my bubby's and I have listened too for our whole life's. Listen to his music, and live too his music.
I've gone through Rock, Disco, Punk, New Wave, and everything in between. But the music Bob has given us, takes me back. Back to the start of who I was. It reminds me of what I wanted to be. And reasures me of who I have become. Pretty deep ? Hell yes it is. Thanks Bob.

GREAT SHOW! I have always wanted to see him in concert and he did NOT disappoint! I cannot day enough about it, Bob and the band were AMAZING! The only drawback was the chaos that was trying to park at and trying to leave Allstate Arena. Loved seeing Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, great performance by a legend, thanks for an incredible show Bob!
Mr Seger can still belt out the music! He and the band sounded great. They came back for two encores of some great old tunes. The show was advertised to begin at 7:30 and Bob finally came on stage at 8:45 after a so so warm up band. Great musicians, just not the music I paid to hear. In all, it was a great concert.
What a great show! Two encores, to a sold out enthusiastic crowd. He did not disapoint anyone, playing all the classics! Everyone sang alone and cheered to their favorites. If, Bob is coming to your town, dont miss the show!
I hope pray he goes on tour again or does private shows my sister dream to meet or see him in concert she has cancer they given her 3 to 6 months live God is good hope u go back on tour
It was one of the best concerts I've seen! Sounded amazing and played so many of hits. Too bad it's his farewell tour!!! Maybe he'll pull an Eagles and come back next year!!!
Wonderful concert! Seger is still at the top of his game! This was the last chance to see a legend perform and if you love him and haven't seen him, find a concert.
