Description
X-Pilot runs tours to visit the Maunsell Towers and Redsand Forts which were sea defences used by both the army and navy and named after their designer Guy Maunsell. Abandoned in the late 1950s, they were subsequently used for a number of uses, a pirate radio station, music videos, and an artist's exploration into isolation, but now they are completely abandoned. Trips out to see these imposing structures are external only and some trips include other sights on the route, such as the Kentish Flats Windfarm and the Grain Fort . Private hire is also available.

X-Pilot Boat Trips From Queenborough All Tide Landing Crundalls Wharf Queenborough, Isle of Sheppey, Kent ME11 5EL
To access the configuration settings of the xPilot client, click on the SETTINGS button. The window displayed below will appear. Before establishing a network connection, it is necessary to configure your VATSIM credentials. If you plan to utilize voice communications, configuring your microphone and listen device is also essential.
Push to Talk To configure your Push to Talk (PTT) button, you need to set it within X-Plane. For detailed instructions on assigning your PTT, please refer to the Push to Talk configuration section.
The VATSIM ID, VATSIM Password, and Name fields should be self-explanatory. The Home Airport field is optional; if completed, it will be displayed next to your name while connected to the network.
The Network Server dropdown menu provides only one option, “AUTOMATIC,” which helps to connect your xPilot session automatically to the best network server, taking into account your geographic location and server availability.
Notifications
The options listed in the “Notifications” tab allows you to personalize which events will trigger aural sound notifications and cause the application icon in the system taskbar to flash or bounce to capture your attention.
The Notification Audio Device dropdown allows you to specify which audio device xPilot should use to play notification sounds. If no device is selected, xPilot will use the default system output device.
The Microphone Device is utilized for communication with VATSIM controllers. Whenever you modify your microphone device, it is necessary to recalibrate the microphone volume. You can adjust the volume of your microphone using the slider located below the Microphone Device list. Ideally, the calibration indicator should remain within the green zone when speaking at a normal volume. If the indicator consistently shows red, it is advisable to lower the volume slider.
The Headset Device and Speaker Device serves as the audio output devices for listening to voice transmissions from controllers and other pilots. You can configure xPilot to send all COM1 audio to your headset device and COM2 audio to your speaker device, or vice-versa.
If the Split Output Audio Channels option is enabled, COM1 and COM2 audio will be split into separate audio channels (COM1 will be routed to left channel – left ear , and COM2 will be routed to the right channel – right ear ).
The audio device lists will automatically update if xPilot detects the removal or connection of an audio device.
You can also adjust the volumes for COM1 and COM2 here. Alternatively, you have the option to adjust the COM1 and COM2 volumes using the volume knobs on the aircraft’s radio panel.
Changes made to the radio volumes inside the aircraft will not be reflected in the volume sliders in xPilot settings, and vice versa. When you restart xPilot, the volumes will return to their previous levels as set by the volume sliders.
If the Allow aircraft radio stack volume knobs to control radio volume option is enabled, you can use the volume knobs in your aircraft to control the radio volume. This functionality is applicable as long as the aircraft you are flying utilizes the standard volume dataref; however, certain aircraft developers may use custom datarefs.
Radio Effects
If the Enable HF Squelch option is activated, the static white noise typically heard when tuned to an HF frequency will be eliminated. However, if you prefer a realistic HF frequency experience, it is recommended to keep this option disabled.
By checking the box labeled Disable Radio Effects , the incoming voice audio will not be filtered to replicate the sound of a VHF radio. Instead, it will resemble more of a VOIP call. Generally, it is advisable to leave this option unchecked to ensure that the audio maintains a realistic and authentic resemblance to real-world radios.
Miscellaneous
If the Automatically set transponder to Mode C on takeoff option is selected, your aircraft’s transponder will automatically switch to Mode C after takeoff.
If the Keep xPilot window visible option is selected, the xPilot client window will consistently stay visible, remaining on top of other windows.

We are X-Pilot, Kent’s Classic Pilot Vessel, a charter boat sailing the rivers Medway, Swale and in the Thames Estuary. The X-Pilot is a Port of London Authority licensed vessel for hire and can work in most rivers in Kent and Essex and the River Thames in Southeast England. X-Pilot’s Captain, Alan Harmer, is licensed as a Boatmaster by the Maritime Coastguard Agency. The X-Pilot is fully insured and licensed to carry twelve passengers and up to four crew.
X-Pilot is the preferred provider for The Maunsell Seaforts Appreciation Group on Facebook and we offer passenger trips to all three of the nearby Maunsell Forts. For more details see our Sailings pages.

The X-Pilot
X-Pilot is a 72 ton ex pilot vessel. Built in the year 1967 she worked at Gravesend along with her sister ship the River Thames, and as a pilot vessel she was expected to endure the harshest of conditions. She is 62 feet long and reliably stable.
X-Pilot now works as a charter vessel and is fully licensed by the Port of London Authority to carry twelve passengers and up to four crew. If we haven’t mentioned something you’d like to to do just give us a call or drop us an e-mail, we are open to all suggestions.
With her spacious upper and lower deck areas X-Pilot is perfect for all kinds of photography and film work. Her cabin areas are suitable for dining. She makes an ideal vessel for smaller corporate events such as days out and team building exercises.
The Captain
Captain Alan Harmer photographs courtesy of Margaret Flo McEwan, founder of The Maunsell Seaforts Appreciation Group on Facebook
Alan Harmer is X-Pilot’s experienced Captain having been a boatman for all his adult life. Cockney born and Essex bred he now moors on the River Swale at Queenborough. He’s been down this way for over twenty years so knows the Medway, Thames Estuary, Swale and the rivers of Essex like the back of his hand. He holds a Maritime and Coastguard Agency Boatmaster’s License and is a qualified first aider.
Alan was also closely associated with Project Redsand and X-Pilot was the Project's supply vessel for many years so Alan has been at the helm on more trips to the Redsand Towers, the Shivering Sands Towers and the Knock John Fort than he would care to count.
As a Boatmaster qualified by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Alan is happy to offer instruction and coaching aboard your own vessel. Learn how to handle a larger boat and how to navigate the old fashioned way with charts, a pencil, a compass and ‘mark one eyeball’. Alan can also skipper your own vessel for delivery etc. Alan can also offer a towing service with X-Pilot and along with our tender can offer the solution to your safety boat needs.

Hyunjin Chose Custom Versace for His Global Stray Kids Tour
Stray Kids fans, rejoice! The South Korean boy band has marked the first day of their global dominATE tour, performing at the KSPO Dome in South Korea earlier today (where the band will be playing for four nights). The group will certainly be busy in the months ahead, with shows across South Korea, Singapore, China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia until mid-January 2025.
Hitting the stage to perform their this such as “Chk Chk Boom” and “I Like It,” members Hyunjin, Felix, Bang Chan, Han, Lee Know, I.N, Seungmin, and Changbin all kicked off the worldwide tour by bringing their signature electrifying performance style. And while they all dressed cohesively in sync—it’s a boy band, duh!—each member was sure to embrace their individual fashion sense. Especially Hyunjin, who chose custom looks designed by Donatella Versace for his solo performances.
Donatella Versace created four special looks for Hyunjin, which will be worn throughout the tour. His first custom brow ensemble debuted in Seoul just today: It included a crystal-net balaclava, sleeveless Versace-logo tank top, and cargo pants. Custom Versace Mercury sneakers completed the look. “Donatella is so supportive and a true icon,” says Hyunjin of the fashion partnership. “Wearing Versace always makes me feel more energy, more attitude, and more of my own power when performing. The outfits designed by Doantella feel very luxury.”
As for the remainder of his stage outfits, Versace created other pieces such as short sleeve-tees with a burnished finish, single-sleeve knit shawls, and more cargo pants and crystal net balaclavas. The looks were fitted onto Hyunjin at the Palazzo Versace in Milan this summer. ”It was such a pleasure to host Hyunjin in Milan. It is a truly special and meaningful place for me, my team, and all our extended Versace family,” Versace tells Vogue . “It didn’t take long for the fans to discover he was here—we had fun going out to meet them together.”
The designer adds that Hyunjin’s confidence and “connection with his fans” is what inspired her to create for the star. “I really loved designing the clothes for his stage performances. He knows exactly what suits him, and what works for him as a performer,” says Versace. “I love that he feels Versace gives him confidence and special energy. He is so thoughtful and gentle and when he’s on stage—he shines like a true star.” The cool statement outfits sure help, too.
Below, an exclusive closer look at Hyunjin’s Versace fittings for the tour.
