ZIP IN. ZIP OUT.

Book a ZIPZONE ride within select Tarrant County communities.

ZIPZONE is a ridesharing transit solution that uses smartphone technology and a fleet of dedicated vehicles to provide trips within specific service boundaries. ZIPZONE allows you to request trips in real time through the ZIPZONE mobile app or over the phone by selecting a pickup point and destination.

Your fare covers corner-to-corner travel between your location and a pre-set destination you select when booking your ride. This is a flat-fee service. The price will not increase based on your location or service area.

ZIPZONE rides are included with all Trinity Metro multi-ride tickets! That means you may purchase any multi-ride ticket option, and ZIPZONE rides in the Mercantile, Southeast, Southside and South Tarrant zones are included at no additional cost. Transfer between TEXRail, Trinity Metro bus routes, Trinity Railway Express and ZIPZONE for one low fare.

When booking your ride in ZIPZONE, simply select the ticket button in the middle of the screen to indicate that you already have a valid ticket when booking your ride. Then, when you board the ZIPZONE vehicle, the driver will ask to see your Trinity Metro ticket for validation.

These new EV charging features are coming to Google Maps

Avatar for Michelle Lewis

Google’s new Maps features help EV drivers find exact information about EV chargers’ locations, plan charging stops for road trips, and more.

Find the exact location of the EV charging station

zip trip driver

Navigating to charging stations and finding exactly where the chargers are — like in a multilevel parking lot — can sometimes be more of an effort than it should be.

Google says that in “the coming months,” it will start to show AI-powered summaries in Google Maps that describe a charger’s specific location based on millions of user reviews posted daily.

Directions will get even more specific since reviews about EV chargers now prompt for additional details like what type of plug you used and how long you had to wait.

EV charging stations near me

zip trip driver

You’ll soon see nearby EV chargers on the in-car Map, including real-time port availability and charging speed. This update will roll out globally in “the coming months,” starting with EVs with Google built in, such as those built by Volvo, Polestar, and GMC.

Plan your EV road trips with Google Maps

zip trip driver

The most ideal EV charging stops will soon be suggested based on your charge level when you enter a multi-stop road trip on Google Maps. (There’s also a new EV charger filter on google.com/travel available now to find hotels that have onsite charging.)

Top comment by canbonbon

So not sure how google will get the data of where the chargers are installed? I am so tired of submitting Charger update requests on plughshare and chargehub websites. I think the charging companies (like chargepoint, Electrify America, etc) are really bad in having open APIs or database that these consolidation websites can tap into. Google's AI will only be as good as the data feed it gets. I mean it cannot show that there is a charger there if no charger is installed and vice versa.

This feature, too, will be available in, you guessed it, “coming months” for EVs with Google built-in. I’m looking forward to this rolling out for everyone, as excellent road trip navigation will go far in reducing range anxiety for new EV drivers and make road trips easier for everyone.

Authorities have released the name of the driver killed in a fiery tanker truck crash on Interstate 22 in Walker County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Stephen A. Zmolek Jr. He was 40 and lived in Boaz.

Senior Trooper Cody Farrar said Zmolek was driving a Freightliner Cascadia that left the road, overturned, and caught fire. He was transporting diesel fuel.

Zmolek was pronounced dead on the scene.

The wreck happened at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday near the 49-mile marker, near the Carbon Hill exit.

The crash shut down that portion of the interstate for much of the day. Troopers announced about 8:30 p.m. that all lanes were back open.

The investigation is ongoing.

Ohio man, 81, fatally shoots Uber driver, 61, after scammers target both of them, officials say

An 81-year-old Ohio man has been charged in the fatal shooting of an Uber driver he believed was working with a scammer, according to officials who said the victim was sent to the home by the same scammer.

William Brock told investigators he shot Loletha Hall, 61, outside his home March 25 because he thought she was working with a man who called him pretending to be an officer at the local court, Lt. Kristopher Shultz of the Clark County Sheriff's Office said.

"Mr. Brock received some scam call by a person purporting to be someone from our courts who informed him a family member was incarcerated and that he had a bond of a significant amount of money," Shultz said. "The calls turned from 'I'm an officer in the court' to 'We have this subject hostage, this is a ransom demand.'"

The person who called Brock, or an accomplice, requested an Uber ride to his South Charleston home to pick up the money, Shultz said.

"Ms. Hall did not have any idea," he added.

William Brock told investigators he shot Loletha Hall, 61, outside his home March 25 because he thought she was working with a man who called him pretending to be an officer at the local court, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

When Hall arrived at the home and approached the front door, Brock confronted her with a gun and asked her who she was working for, Shultz said. He took her cellphone and prevented her from getting in her vehicle and driving away.

“When she tried to get away, he shot her once, then there was more exchange between them," Shultz said. "Mr. Brock was at some point injured to his head, and he shot Ms. Hall a second time. There was more conversation, and then he shot her a third time. Only after he shot her a third time did he then make contact with authorities to report the incident."

Hall did not threaten Brock, have a weapon or assault him, according to the sheriff's office and a complaint filed in Clark County Municipal Court. She was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries, according to the complaint.

In a statement, Uber said the company had spoken with Hall's family.

"This is a horrific tragedy and our hearts continue to be with Loletha’s loved ones as they grieve," an Uber spokesperson said. "We have been in contact with law enforcement and remain committed to supporting their investigation."

William Brock told investigators he shot Loletha Hall, 61, outside his home March 25 because he thought she was working with a man who called him pretending to be an officer at the local court, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

The Uber spokesperson said the account of the person who ordered a car to Brock's house has been banned. Officials have not identified the person who requested the Uber and have not said whether they have made any additional arrests in connection with the case.

In a grand jury presentation Monday, Brock was indicted on three counts of murder, one count of felonious assault and one count of kidnapping, Shultz said. He will be arraigned on those charges later this week.

It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.

Brock was originally arraigned on a murder charge in the Municipal Court of Clark County on Wednesday and posted a $200,000 bond. If convicted of that charge, he could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison or a $15,000 fine.

The trooper chased after the Dodge and the driver eventually stopped four miles down the road, near Immokalee Road at Quarry Drive.

The 13-year-old, who was not identified, was arrested for fleeing and eluding and having no driver’s license, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The teen was taken to the Collier County Jail.

Dear Abby: I’m giving my parents their dream vacation - and they still want more

  • Published: Apr. 16, 2024, 3:49 a.m.

Picture of Dear Abby, advice columnist

  • Abigail Van Buren

DEAR ABBY: I’m a professional, well-educated adult who moved back home because of concerns about my father’s health as well as having landed a much better job. As an extra perk, I’ve been able to save money to pay toward my student loans, as well as spoil my parents a bit as they grow older.

I recently gifted my parents (for the second time) their dream vacation. They loved it the first time and never imagined they’d be able to do it twice. Because my parents still have a minor child who cannot remain alone, I am choosing, as I did last time, to use my personal vacation time to babysit. My mother has been planning the details of her upcoming trip and has now asked me to take more time off work so they can have a road trip after their vacation.

Abby, I am already draining every bit of my time off for their weeklong vacation and will not be able to have a vacation myself until later in the year when I accrue more time. I know she’s requesting this to make the trip more fun for my father. Although I am a generous and patient person, this has left me feeling almost speechless, a bit unappreciated and frustrated. Am I overreacting? Should I find a way to extend their trip? -- LIMITED IN OHIO

DEAR LIMITED: The answer to both of your questions is NO. Your mother apparently doesn’t appreciate how generous you have been in providing these vacations for her and your father. If she wants to extend their holiday, she should make her own arrangements for your sibling to be supervised if she and your dad won’t be available to do it themselves. Shame on her for trying to foist that responsibility onto you.

Dear Abby is written by Abigail Van Buren, also known as Jeanne Phillips, and was founded by her mother, Pauline Phillips. Contact Dear Abby at www.DearAbby.com or P.O. Box 69440, Los Angeles, CA 90069.

Syracuse, N.Y. — Thousands of police officers, firefighters and others stood along city streets, bridges and highways Tuesday in honor of Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen as his body was taken home to Rome.

A procession of about 200 police cars and motorcycles accompanied a hearse that made the 47-mile trip from downtown Syracuse to a funeral home in Rome.

Along the way, fire trucks parked on bridges over highways and firefighters stood at attention as the procession passed. People gathered along streets to watch.

In Rome, more people stood along roads as the procession went by and passed his family home.

Jensen and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Michael Hoosock were both killed in a Salina shooting Sunday after a traffic stop where the driver speed away. The shooter, Christopher R. Murphy , 33, of Salina, was also killed in the gunfight.

The procession started at about 11 a.m. at the Wallie J. Howard Center for Forensic Sciences in downtown Syracuse.

Crowds of officers stood at attention and saluted as Jensen’s body passed by in the hearse.

Police cars and motorcycles flashed red and blue lights as they escorted the hearse up Interstate 81 North.

As Jensen passed underneath the Court Street Bridge, the sun shined on the American flag placed on the bridge’s fence by a Syracuse firefighter.

Syracuse firefighters on Bear Street bridge stood still in silence for 16 minutes. The firefighters walked away with tears in their eyes and returned to their fire truck after the procession passed under the bridge.

The procession continued north and took the Thruway to Rome.

In Rome, people watched, and some honked their horns in respect of the lost officer.

People started to line Turnit road in front of the funeral by 11 a.m. About 50 Rome police officers and firefighters, Oneida county sheriff’s deputies and officers from neighboring towns also stood in wait for their fallen brother in the funeral home’s parking lot.

Two fire trucks with their ladders fully extended draped an American flag over Merrick Road in front of the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home in Rome.

Funeral procession for Syracuse police officer from Rome

An American flag is draped over the ladders of two firetrucks just before a funeral procession of police and fire vehicles on Turin Street in Rome to escort the body of Syracuse Officer Michael Jensen on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Officer Jensen of Salina and Onondaga Sheriff's deputy Michael Hoosock were gunned down in Salina after a traffic stop gone wrong led to the suspect fleeing to his home and killing them in a shootout. James McClendon | [email protected]

At about 12:54 p.m., the first of over 200 police vehicles began driving the intersection of Turin and Merrick. The procession lasted well over 15 minutes before ending at 1:10 p.m.

Police cars from Geddes, Cicero, Oneida, Baldwinsville, Syracuse, Solvay, Dewitt, Fulton, state police and many more attended the procession.

Patricia Nichols, 54, of Rome, started crying as the procession passed where she and her family stood.

“When you have small town like this (Rome) where everybody kind of knows each other, that’s what makes this all so sad,” she said. “We didn’t know him, but we just wanted to be out here today to show our support for the Jensen family.”

Jensen graduated from the Syracuse Regional Police Academy in August 2022. Jensen had 2½ years on the force and was described as ambitious and hard-working, according to Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile.

“He came to work yesterday with his typical bright smile, ear to ear, and his charming personality, that infectious, charming personality, that resonated so well with our members,” Syracuse police union president Joe Moran said at a news conference Monday.

Hoosock, 37 was taken to the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home in Salina Monday night, according to Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
