Licensure Requirements

If you do not have a nursing license in a compact state, you’ll need to apply for an Arkansas nursing license by endorsement to practice nursing within the state. 

To obtain an Arkansas nursing license by endorsement, you need to meet the following requirements:

• Must create an Arkansas Nurse Portal account. You can find video instructions on how to do this here .
• Submit an ASBN application, along with required fees and a valid social security number.
• Verify your nursing license either through Nursys® or via license verification form , which must be submitted to the Arkansas Board of Nursing directly through your original state licensing agency.
• You must submit to a background check and follow the state’s criminal background check directions carefully. 

While waiting for your licensure application to be approved, you can apply for a temporary permit to practice nursing in the meantime. This one-time permit is available to any nurse that holds an unencumbered active license from another jurisdiction. Once the permit is issued, you will need to verify it through the Nursys®  website.

• Licensure by endorsement fee: $125
• Certified copy of records fee: $20
• Temporary permit: $30

Nurse Licensure Compact Status

Arkansas is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). If you have a nursing license in a compact state, you won’t have to worry about going through the process of getting licensure by endorsement for an Arkansas nursing license to practice nursing within the state.

Is Arkansas a Walk-Through State?

The state of Arkansas is not a walk-through state.

For license renewal, the state of Arkansas requires one of the following for continuing education:

• Must have 15 contact hours of appropriately accredited practice-focused activities
• Must hold a current nationally recognized certification/recertification
• Must complete a minimum of one college credit hour course in nursing with a grade of C or better during licensure period

Once you’ve created or logged into your account, you’ll be prompted to build your profile, where you’ll answer questions and provide details related to the following:

After you’ve finished your profile, you’ll be directed to a Terms & Conditions page, where you’ll review policies and agree to the outlined terms and conditions. Upon completing this step, you can submit your application to TRS Healthcare for review and verification with our Recruiting team.

When our Recruiting team has verified the information within your application, the process is complete, and you’ll be able to start submitting yourself to jobs available through TRS Healthcare.

After you’ve submitted your TRS Healthcare application, you should see a “TRS Application Received!” message in the application status section of your account dashboard. This means our Recruiting team has been alerted that your application is ready to review and verify.
