Connecting with others is the boost you need for a strong 2021. Journey Groups provide a place where you can be known, grow, and learn to live life to the fullest through Jesus. 

Church is more than a one-hour gathering on Sunday. The church is a community sharing life with each other. Journey Groups are the primary way that we learn to live out our faith together. You will not only encounter the tangible presence of God but be transformed into Christ’s image. Through community, we can begin to live our lives the way Jesus modeled and see our city renewed for His glory.

While most groups are open to anyone, some will focus on particular walks of life, such as parenting or young adults.

No matter who you are or where you are, there is a Journey Group for you!

What is a Journey Group?

Journey Groups are groups of 10-15 people who meet weekly to build community, care collectively, and be strengthened spiritually. This year, our church family is reading through the Foundations 260 Bible Reading Plan in our personal times with the Lord, in our Journey Groups, and on Sunday.

Learn one way to study the bible.

We have Journey Groups that meet almost every night of the week. You can see specific dates and times at the link above.

Journey Groups can meet anywhere: someones house, a coffee shop, a park, and some even choose to meet at the church.

No, you do not have to be a partner of Journey to join a group.

Most Journey Groups meet weekly.

A Journey Group usually lasts an hour and a half to two hours each week.

Journey Group leaders are provided a biblically centered curriculum determined by the church leadership. Under some circumstances the Journey Group leader may lead another study approved by church leadership.

What happens at a small group meeting.

You’ve probably seen Small Groups meeting and not even realized it. A small group looks like friends at lunch, teams playing basketball, or people studying a book or topic of interest. At its core, a small group is a small gathering of people, and it is less about what you do and more about who you do it with. By participating in Small Groups, you can expect to connect with others through a common activity, engage in life giving conversation and request prayer.

How often does a small group meet?

Our Small Groups meet for three semesters a year—winter/spring, summer and fall. During the semester, most groups meet once a week. Small Groups are meant to bring meaning and community into the flow of your life, so even if you can’t attend every meeting, there is still great value in joining a group.

Groups meet all throughout Palm Beach County!

How long does a typical small group stay together?

Most Small Groups meet for a semester. This way, new people can join groups easily and regularly. Also, the semester format allows you to try multiple groups each year. As relationships form, some groups choose to stay together for consecutive semesters, but new members are always welcome.

Is there childcare available?

Childcare varies from group to group. When you search our directory for a group, the group profile will indicate if childcare is available.

What if I don’t like the first group I try?

The truth is, not everyone will find the best fit with the first group they try. This is why we encourage you to select a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders and try out a couple different groups before choosing the best one for you. The simple strategy to finding success in Small Groups is to not give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone—including you!

Journey Church is a church made up of small groups. We feel it is necessary for the growth of the person, both relationally and spiritually, to be involved in a small group. Here you will find friendship, accountability, and friend who can become like family that will challenge you in your walk with Jesus.

You can search through our online Small Group Directory to find a group that fits your interest and your schedule. Become connected in a group by reaching out to the group leader for more information or by contacting our main office which can put you in contact with one of our small group leaders as well.

What is a small group?

Journey Church small groups are smaller life-giving communities that offer a space for deeper connections to take place throughout the whole of our church. Each group is a little different in its design with some meeting to get together and hang out and others sharing in a bible study or prayer. These activities take place primarily in people's homes or here at the church.

What is the Dream Team?

The Dream Team is a group of incredible volunteers that have discovered their gifts and passions and are actively serving in them. From creating a comfortable environment by serving on a Guest Experience Team, to leading the next generation to Jesus by serving on a Student Ministries Team, to crafting a dynamic experience with the Production Team, to tearing down barriers across our region by leading a Small Group. We are a group that forcefully advances the Kingdom of God. The mission of the Dream Team is to build the body of Christ by each person fulfilling their calling and serving to make an eternal difference.

Production  

Volunteers on our production team create an atmosphere where people can experience the presence of God. This team operates cameras (video and photography), lights, projection screens, and sound that supports the message presented on stage.   Join the Team

Volunteers in our J-student ministry get the opportunity to build and foster relationships with students, ministering to them through teaching, worship, and intentional discipleship. They check in students, greet students, set up events, and lead small groups.  Join the Team

Volunteers on our J-Kidz team help to shape the next generation by engaging kids with the Gospel to help them build their faith. Working directly with children through Bible stories, songs, and group activities or working behind the scenes to provide the best experience possible for both kids and parents.  Join the Team

Connect ions

Volunteers on the c onnections team are the first to welcome guests as soon as they arrive, answer any questions people might have, help find the best seats available, and connect them to all that is happening at our church.   Join the Team

Worship 

Volunteers on our worship team use their gifts and abilities to minister to the church body through the expression of worship through music. They lead worship at weekend services and sing or play an instrument in the worship band.  Join the Team

Volunteers on the parking team are the first connection to our church. This team greets our guests and carefully directs them in parking their vehicles and exiting the parking lot.  Join the Team

Administration

Volunteers on the A-Team assist staff with projects and administrative tasks. They work together to keep the many different parts of our church organized and focused on the mission.  Join the Team

Hospitality

Volunteers on our hospitality team make our guest experience extra special. From setting up coffee and snacks on Sundays to planning and executing special events. Join the Team

Volunteers on the security team provide a safe environment for all of the members and guests during our weekend worship experiences. Members of this team conduct building checks and help to develop emergency plans for our campus. Join the Team

Prayer 

Volunteers on the prayer team gather before our weekend services to pray for the needs of our first-time guests, church, community, and nation.  They also assist with prayer during the response time at our worship experiences. These volunteers are passionate about praying with others.  Join the Team

Social Media

Social Media Volunteers on our social media team help create awareness for our church and various ministries using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media to connect the community with what's going on in and around Journey Church. Volunteers help with developing creative messaging for posts, tweets, and photographs. Join The Team

9 facts about u.s. catholics.

Catholics are one of the largest religious groups in the United States, outnumbering any single Protestant denomination. The U.S. has more Catholics than all but three other countries – Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines – according to the Vatican’s Statistical Yearbook of the Church.

Here are nine key facts about the U.S. Catholic population.

Pew Research Center conducted this analysis to serve as a reference source on the basic demographic attributes, religious characteristics and political preferences of U.S. Catholics.

The analysis draws mainly on data from the Center’s National Public Opinion Reference Surveys (NPORS) conducted in 2022 and 2023. NPORS is an annual survey of U.S. adults who are selected for participation using address-based sampling from the U.S. Postal Service’s Delivery Sequence File. Respondents may answer either by paper or online.

This post also relies on a variety of surveys conducted online among respondents who are part of the Center’s American Trends Panel or other national survey panels recruited through random sampling (not “opt-in” polls).

All of the surveys used in this analysis are weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, education and other categories.

Today, 20% of U.S. adults describe themselves as Catholics, according to our latest survey. This percentage has been generally stable since 2014. But it is slightly lower than in 2007, when 24% of U.S. adults identified as Catholic.

Overall, there were about 262 million adults in the U.S. in 2023, according to the U.S. Census Bureau . This suggests that there are roughly 52 million Catholic adults nationwide.

Most U.S. Catholics are White, but a third are Hispanic. The Catholic population is 57% White, 33% Hispanic, 4% Asian and 2% Black, while 3% are of another race.

Since 2007, the share of U.S. Catholics who are White has dropped by 8 percentage points, while the share who are Hispanic has ticked upward by 4 points.

This change has implications for the profile of Catholic Americans as a whole because White Catholics have distinctive social and political traits, as we’ll discuss in more detail below.

Catholics tend to be older than Americans overall. Nearly six-in-ten Catholic adults (58%) are ages 50 and older. Among all U.S. adults in the survey, by comparison, 48% fall in this age range.

But Hispanic Catholics tend to be a lot younger than White Catholics. Fewer than half of Hispanic Catholics (43%) are 50 and older, compared with about two-thirds (68%) of White Catholics. And just 14% of Hispanic Catholics are ages 65 and older, versus 38% of White Catholics.

Roughly three-in-ten U.S. Catholics (29%) live in the South, while 26% live in the Northeast, 24% in the West and 21% in the Midwest.

The racial and ethnic profile of the Catholic population varies considerably by region. For example, in the Midwest, 80% of Catholics are White and 17% are Hispanic. In the Northeast, 72% of Catholics are White and 19% are Hispanic.

In the South, 49% are White and 40% are Hispanic. And in the West, there are more Hispanic Catholics than White Catholics (55% vs. 30%).

About a third of U.S. Catholics (32%) have a bachelor’s degree. Another 28% have some college experience but not a bachelor’s degree, and 40% have a high school education or less. This distribution is similar to that of the general adult population.

On average, White Catholics have higher levels of educational attainment than Hispanic Catholics. Roughly four-in-ten White Catholics (39%) have at least a bachelor’s degree, while 32% have a high school education or less. Among Hispanic Catholics, 16% have a bachelor’s degree and 59% have a high school education or less.

About three-in-ten U.S. Catholics (28%) say they attend Mass weekly or more often. Larger shares of Catholics say they pray on a daily basis (52%) and say religion is very important in their life (46%).

Overall, 20% of U.S. Catholics say they attend Mass weekly and pray daily and consider religion very important in their life. By contrast, 10% of Catholics say they attend Mass a few times a year or less often and pray seldom or never and consider religion not too or not all important in their life.

By way of comparison, 40% of U.S. Protestants say they attend services at least weekly. And about two-thirds of Protestants pray daily (67%) and say religion is very important in their life (66%).

About half of Catholic registered voters (52%) identify with or lean toward the Republican Party, while 44% affiliate with the Democratic Party.

But partisan affiliation varies by race and ethnicity. Roughly six-in-ten White Catholic registered voters (61%) say they identify with or lean toward the GOP, compared with 35% of Hispanic Catholics.

Conversely, 60% of Hispanic Catholics who are registered voters say they identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party, compared with 37% of White Catholics.

In the 2022 congressional midterm elections, 56% of Catholics said they voted for Republican candidates, while 43% backed Democrats. And in the 2020 presidential election, Catholic voters were split down the middle: 49% backed Donald Trump and 50% voted for Joe Biden.

These overall splits hide big differences between White and Hispanic Catholic voters. For example, White Catholics favored Trump over Biden by a 15-point margin in 2020, while Hispanic Catholics backed Biden over Trump by a 35-point margin.

While the Catholic Church opposes abortion , about six-in-ten Catholics say abortion should be legal. This includes 39% who say it should be legal in most cases and 22% who say it should be legal in all cases. Roughly four-in-ten Catholics say abortion should be illegal in most (28%) or all (11%) cases.

Catholics’ opinions about abortion tend to align with their political leanings. Among Catholic Democrats, 78% say abortion should be legal in most or all cases. Among Catholic Republicans, 43% say this.

Catholic Democrats are a little less likely than non-Catholic Democrats to say abortion should be legal in most or all cases (78% vs. 86%).

Three-quarters of Catholics view Pope Francis favorably, according to our February 2024 survey. That’s a little lower than the 80% of Catholics or more who expressed a positive view of Francis in many previous polls during his papacy, which began in 2013.

Catholic Democrats (89%) are much more likely than Catholic Republicans (63%) to view Francis favorably.

The Rise of Moscow

Moscow was only a small trading outpost in the principality of Vladimir-Suzdal in Kievan Rus’ before the invasion of Mongol forces during the 13th century. However, due to the unstable environment of the Golden Horde, and the deft leadership of Ivan I at a critical time during the 13th century, Moscow became a safe haven of prosperity during his reign. It also became the new seat of power of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Ivan I (also known as Ivan Kalita) was born around 1288 to the Prince of Moscow, Daniil Aleksandrovich. He was born during a time of devastation and upheaval in Rus’. Kiev had been overtaken by the invading Mongol forces in 1240, and most of the Rus’ principalities had been absorbed into the Golden Horde of the Mongol Empire by the time Ivan was born. He ascended to the seat of Prince of Moscow after the death of his father, and then the death of his older brother Yury.

Ivan I. He was born around 1288 and died in either 1340 or 1341, still holding the title of Grand Prince of Vladimir.

Ivan I stepped into a role that had already been expanded by his predecessors. Both his older brother and his father had captured nearby lands, including Kolomna and Mozhaisk. Yury had also made a successful alliance with the Mongol leader Uzbeg Khan and married his sister, securing more power and advantages within the hierarchy of the Golden Horde.

Ivan I continued the family tradition and petitioned the leaders of the Golden Horde to gain the seat of Grand Prince of Vladimir. His other three rivals, all princes of Tver, had previously been granted the title in prior years. However they were all subsequently deprived of the title and all three aspiring princes also eventually ended up murdered. Ivan I, on the other hand, garnered the title from Khan Muhammad Ozbeg in 1328. This new title, which he kept until his death around 1340, meant he could collect taxes from the Russian lands as a ruling prince and position his tiny city as a major player in the Vladimir region.

Moscow’s Rise

During this time of upheaval, the tiny outpost of Moscow had multiple advantages that repositioned this town and set it up for future prosperity under Ivan I. Three major contributing factors helped Ivan I relocate power to this area:

• It was situated in between other major principalities on the east and west so it was often protected from the more devastating invasions.
• This relative safety, compared to Tver and Ryazan, for example, started to bring in tax-paying citizens who wanted a safe place to build a home and earn a livelihood.
• Finally, Moscow was set up perfectly along the trade route from Novgorod to the Volga River, giving it an economic advantage from the start.

Ivan I also spurred on the growth of Moscow by actively recruiting people to move to the region. In addition, he bought the freedom of people who had been captured by the extensive Mongol raids. These recruits further bolstered the population of Moscow. Finally, he focused his attention on establishing peace and routing out thieves and raiding parties in the region, making for a safe and calm metaphorical island in a storm of unsettled political and military upsets.

Ivan I knew that the peace of his region depended upon keeping up an alliance with the Golden Horde, which he did faithfully. Moscow’s increased wealth during this era also allowed him to loan money to neighboring principalities. These regions then became indebted to Moscow, bolstering its political and financial position.

In addition, a few neighboring cities and villages were subsumed into Moscow during the 1320s and 1330s, including Uglich, Belozero, and Galich. These shifts slowly transformed the tiny trading outpost into a bustling city center in the northern forests of what was once Kievan Rus’.

Russian Orthodox Church and The Center of Moscow

Ivan I committed some of Moscow’s new wealth to building a splendid city center and creating an iconic religious setting. He built stone churches in the center of Moscow with his newly gained wealth. Ivan I also tempted one of the most important religious leaders in Rus’, the Orthodox Metropolitan Peter, to the city of Moscow. Before the rule of the Golden Horde the original Russian Orthodox Church was based in Kiev. After years of devastation, Metropolitan Peter transferred the seat of power to Moscow where a new Renaissance of culture was blossoming. This perfectly timed transformation of Moscow coincided with the decades of devastation in Kiev, effectively transferring power to the north once again.

One of the most lasting accomplishments of Ivan I was to petition the Khan based in Sarai to designate his son, who would become Simeon the Proud, as the heir to the title of Grand Prince of Vladimir. This agreement a line of succession that meant the ruling head of Moscow would almost always hold power over the principality of Vladimir, ensuring Moscow held a powerful position for decades to come.
