The Home Alone 2 Guide To Navigating NYC

So you don't get lost in New York.

Human,

Should you find yourself wandering aimlessly through New York City this holiday season , check off some of the hotspots below in our Home Alone 2 tour guide . Bonus points if you wear a similar red, white, and blue winter hat and take pictures to replicate these scenes:

Radio City Music Hall

People, Snapshot, Glasses, Human, Headgear, Temple, Photography, Eyewear, Neck, Cap,

Central Park

Snow, Winter, Freezing, Photography, Jacket, Child,

Yes,there are even more pigeons in NYC IRL than you see in the movie. The scene where Marv and Harry are being attacked by them is, quite frankly, any sane New Yorker's worst nightmare.

The Plaza Hotel

Religious institute, Rite, Event, Temple,

VISIT Yes, Donald Trump does make an appearance in the film. But let's not take our eyes off the prize, alright? Even this small glimpse of The Plaza Hotel is enough to take your breath away. Around the holidays, the iconic hotel is a sight to behold.

Empire Diner

Pedestrian, Mode of transport, Street, Vehicle,

VISIT As Eric P. says on Yelp, "It is easy to be a member of the clean plate club at the Empire Diner!" So you kind of have to stop by...Plus, it was good enough to make it into Home Alone 2 .

World Trade Center

Handrail, Guard rail, Reinforced concrete, Construction, Stairs, Architecture, Roof, Steel, Composite material, Building,

VISIT You know, just a kid casually hanging out on the rooftop of the World Trade Center. Though visiting One World Trade Center is very different from what it was when Kevin went in 1992, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum is certainly worth the trip.

Rockefeller Center

Photograph, Light, Christmas, Snapshot, Lighting, Christmas lights, Tree, Christmas ornament, Human, Darkness,

VISIT Be sure to walk through Rockefeller Center to see the Christmas tree and watch the ice skaters glide (and sometimes fall) at the rink. This photo of Kevin is the exact reaction you'll have when seeing it for the first time—or even the hundredth. It's magical!

Times Square

Metropolitan area, Metropolis, Urban area, City, Night, Downtown, Electronic signage, Landmark, Human settlement, Traffic,

VISIT Though I would certainly not add Times Square to the list of places to visit this time of year for people who have been, if you've never been to NYC, it's definitely a site to see. One note: it's not the most festive, so if your time here is limited, choose wisely!

Ultimate Home Alone 2 Filming Locations – How to find all the New York Film locations.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is one of the classic feel-good family movies and is wheeled out most Christmases to fill the gaps between the Turkey and Mince Pies. Unlike a lot of films, a large portion of the film was actually filmed on location in Manhatten. While some scenes were inevitably shot elsewhere the big cinematic city shots were all on location. In our Ultimate Home Alone 2, Filming Locations guide we hunt down and show you ALL the iconic places used in the Film so you can plan your own Movie Sites tour!

Ultimate Home Alone 2 Filming Locations

We know there are loads of guides out there, however, we always find them incomplete or misleading. We really tried to get EVERY important scene in there to let you know when Hollywood worked its magic and reality gets a little blurry!

We have tried to track down every important scene and if they are shot in the city we will show you where. And how to find them. Be sure to check out our movie sites page to see if there are any other Movies that have filming locations nearby to add on to your tour!

Home Alone 2 Filming locations Map

All the Locations can be found on our Google Map here, Click the “Open Larger Map” Square to open in another window!

The Opening Scenes of the Film are located at the Mcallister house and are shot in Chicago so we will not focus on these and begin once Kevin touches down in New York. The other Scenes are meant to be in Florida, they probably weren’t, and besides are not very interesting so we will stick to New York scenes only.

La Guardia Airport

Kevin First arrives at La Guardia Airport and after conversing with the check-in girl (at Arrivals?) Gazes out over the City! It’s worth flying into La Guardia simply for this view! Well, it would be if La Guardia had that view, or if Kevin was at La Guardia. The Scenes were shot at O’Hare in Chicago. We are unsure if the window scene was shot in Chicago and the backdrop was “added” in, or if some set was built in an office somewhere on long island. But we know it wasn’t La Guardia.

The View itself is from somewhere around long island City and includes the Pepsi Cola Sign. However, the area has undergone extensive regeneration and is unrecognizable anyway. At least the stock footage of landing planes is actually La Guardia!

New York Arrival Montage!

Kevin then Jumps in a cab and begins a whistle-stop tour of Manhattan. We have heard the Geography called a little messed up but actually, it’s pretty spot on. Albeit pretty ambitious. We included a line to show the route he “may” have taken, don’t take that too seriously though!

The montage begins with Kevin leaning out of a cab on Queensboro Bridge, before heading to Radio City Hall near the Rockefeller center to take a pretty awful polaroid of nothing. He then heads down to the Empire State Building to get a flyer of a tall wobbly Santa outside the Empire Diner , which is actually nowhere near the Empire State Building and is over in Chelsea. Quite a Detour!

He then heads downtown via China Town where he buys some firecrackers from the now-closed Quong Yuen Shing & Co Shop at 32 Mott Street. We Guess 90’s Chinatown Shopkeepers cared little about Age Verification?

He then Arrives at Battery Park to take a peek at the statue of liberty through the now vanquished binoculars. The Binoculars may have gone but you can still get a good view of the Statue from here . The final port of call for Kevin on his arrival montage is the Twin Towers Observation Deck. We are guessing you don’t need us to tell you these are no longer here. But you should still check out the Memorial and you can always head up the New Freedom Tower for a view of the City from the WTC.

Fulton Fish Market

We then cut to the old Fulton Fish Market, which has now moved to Brooklyn, but the streets are still here. Kevin walks across the street narrowly avoiding being run over by a fish van that contains the newly escaped prison, Wet Bandits.

The Bandits then presumably jump on the Tube up to 57th Street, which is a feasible Subway Journey. Here they emerge from the Subway and become ‘The Sticky Bandits’ by robbing the Samaritan’s Santa. They then proceed east to meet up with their first Encounter with Kevin…

Central Park Bridge – AKA Gapstow Bridge

Kevin then finds himself in Central Park. As he comes across Gapstow Bridge he first encounters the Pigeon Lady. Gapstow is what is lovingly referred to as Home Alone bridge and you will encounter many selfie-takers here. This is probably the Number one site most people head to in order to get their Selfie or Home Alone Photo, despite the fact it features very sparsely in the film. It is, however, a very scenic spot and great for photos.

Home Alone Bridge nyc

After being startled by a woman feeding pigeons he runs off towards the Plaza via Grand Army Plaza and then runs slap bang into the Wet Bandits, or by now should we say, Sticky Bandits right outside the Plaza on the busy intersection of 59th and 5th.

The Plaza Hotel

The Plaza New York

There are a great number of scenes shot both inside and outside the Plaza Hotel. While without spending a large sum of money to stay in “a hotel room with an extra-large bed, a TV, and one of those little refrigerators you open with a key” you are unlikely to get to see any of the room scenes but they were all filmed on location. You can, however, check out the lobby, areas, and the exteriors that were all also filmed on location.

Wollman Ice-Rink

ice skateing in the park

After Hi-Jinks in the Plaza, The next stop is the Wollman Ice-Rink where the Sticky Bandits plot their next move. This is one of the more obvious locations, most visitors head to this Iconic location anyway, but it’s always nice to tie it in with your favorite Christmas movie. In the film their plan is to rob…

Duncan’s Toy Chest

Duncans Toy Chest is doubly disappointing, not only does it not exist in New York but the Shop it was meant to be, also has now closed down so there is really nowhere to visit to get that Toy Chest Vibe***. The suggestion is the store is FAO Swarz which closed down in 2015 and is now the Apple Store. Although this is just across the street and he didn’t really need to get a Limo there, he won’t be the first person to be taken for a “ride” by an unscrupulous Limo/Taxi Driver! The Scenes were actually shot in Chicago.

*** FAO Swarz has Re-Opened in New York City! Not the original location but just down the road at the Rockerfella center, so you can get a bit of Duncan’s toy chest vibe!

Leaving the Toy Chest the bandits bump back into Kevin and he escapes via the Solow Building on 57th, with the help of a street trader’s questionable merchandise. After more escapades in the Plaza, resulting in his eviction and capture by the Bandits, Kevin escapes his captors and heads off into Central Park, Via the Bethesda Fountain and terrace. Another Location used in multiple movies and TV Shows.

Now with nowhere to go and the bandits hunting him, Kevin heads to his Uncle Rob’s house, more on this later. With no one home, he runs into Central Park and finally finds the Pigeon Lady at Inscope Arch, which we think is the REAL Home Alone Bridge, but as it’s harder to find and not as obvious or pretty people make do with the Gapstow Bridge. More on this below.

Inscope Arch home alone2

Carnegie Hall

There are only minimal scenes shot a Carnegie, while the Scene shot in the Rafters are quite long they are obviously inaccessible (and we are not sure if this was on location or studio filmed) anyway the hall is worth a visit in its own right as it’s an icon of the New York Music Scene.

St Annes Hospital for Children

After Leaving Carnegie Hall Kevin Notices the Star on St Annes Hospital for children. Sparking his memory and inspiring him to thwart the Sticky Bandit’s nefarious plan. Unfortunately, this requires us to suspend belief as the hospital does not exist and the building used is over 50 Blocks away at Columbia University. It’s on our map if you really want to visit! There is no Star or child in the window though!

Uncle Rob McAllister’s House

Kevin now returns to Uncles Rob’s house to set up his devious traps. The reality of this location is disappointing. Due to the acrobatic nature of most of the scenes shot here, it required Studio shooting, so the house is actually part of the New York set at Universal Studios, and the interior scenes are shot on a sound stage. Damn you Hollywood!

However, we do have an address and the house in question is a similar style Brownstone house so you can pretend you are at the real house. Head to 51 West 95th St to see the house that wasn’t used.

Kevin returns to the Toy Chest to lure the Bandits to Uncle Rob’s House and there is much frivolity inside the house. Finally, Kevin escapes the house with the bandits scorched, beat up, and generally defiled and rather grumpy. However, On Kevin’s final Escape he is foiled by ironically slipping on some ice. He is then Frogmarched to the Inscope Arch.

Capture Scene – The Inscope Arch

Inscope Arch Central Park

This is the bridge we think of as the real Home Alone Bridge the picture-perfect little arch where the Bandits attempt to finally bring upon the Demise of Kevin only to be thwarted by the Pigeon Lady throwing seed on them causing a Bird storm.

The Problem is the Arch does not actually exist in the way it is portrayed in the film. The Actual Arch’s Tunnel is much deeper, The Arch more curved and the pretty little staircase does not exist. It could easily be a “backlot” recreation where the scenes are actually filmed. However, the intricate brickwork shows it is definitely this bridge or a direct copy, so this is basically the bridge in any real sense, you just have to accept Hollywood’s alterations…

Rockefeller Tree Reunion

rockefeller pana

Finally, we cut to Kevin’s mother who is in Times Square, we are sure you don’t need this location pointed out. The film then cuts to the tearful reunion under the Rockefeller tree before the whole family is reunited back at the Plaza.

Have Your Say?

We Think, unlike all the other guides we have read, we really have got every location, real or not, in New York covered in our guide. We put this together as we were frustrated other guides always seemed to miss or omit something or someplace. If you disagree or think we missed something please let us know in the comments below, we will get it added as soon as possible, however, we watched the entire film while we put this together, and are pretty sure we got everything, this is on top of the 40,000 times we have watched in previously!

2 thoughts on “Ultimate Home Alone 2 Filming Locations – How to find all the New York Film locations.”

Great job at finding these locations! The Plaza Hotel is as beautiful as ever! There is just one location that wasn’t posted that I am curious about- the alleyway that Harry and Marv walk through with captive Kevin which is believed by the movie to be the alley of the Plaza hotel which is obviously non-existent if you look at the exterior of the actual Plaza so I’m curious where that Alley may be? I mean I can understand why the filmmakers probably did that as they wanted the Bandits to be able to snatch Kevin in a secluded location.

Great call, We do love a Challenge, just fired up the movie and there are a few clues! we will get back to you.

Just hope the answer is not “Hollywood” as can often be the case, but we are pretty confident this is a genuine New York location…

The Best Quote From Each Of Christopher Nolan's 12 Movies

The 2 western movies john wayne thought were better than his 67-year-old masterpiece, 10 harsh realities of rewatching the back to the future trilogy.

Home Alone 2 is not nearly as beloved as its iconic predecessor , but still has its enjoyable qualities. Chief among them is the wonderful New York City setting. New York is a beautiful place at Christmastime, as there's a certain magical atmosphere in the air. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York perfectly captures that atmosphere, and it serves as a great travelogue for those who have never been to New York City.

RELATED: Home Alone: The Characters, Ranked By Intelligence

Kevin is a tourist in the city (having accidentally taken the wrong plane), and like all tourists, he visits many of the city's most iconic landmarks. These are perhaps the most iconic.

Queensboro Bridge

Kevin doesn't really visit the Queensboro Bridge so much as drives across it in a taxi. However, he leans out the window of the taxi and gazes at the bridge in wonder, as it serves as his gorgeous entry into the city proper . Spanning the width of the East River, the Queensboro Bridge connects Queens and Manhattan - specifically the Upper East Side. Completed in 1909, the Queensboro Bridge is one of four iconic New York bridges - the others being Williamsburg, Manhattan, and Brooklyn.

Empire Diner

Naturally, the first thing that Kevin does is go on a sightseeing tour and hit up all the big New York hotspots. In the sightseeing montage, Kevin passes by Empire Diner, where he waves to a Santa on stilts. This is perhaps the most famous diner in the world, let alone New York City. Well known for its Art Moderne exterior, Empire Diner was constructed in 1946 and has since become a staple in movies and TV shows that take place in New York. Aside from Home Alone 2 , the diner has also been spotted in Manhattan , Men in Black II , and Law & Order (among many others).

The World Trade Center

Perhaps the most tragic and morose image in Home Alone 2 is that of Kevin standing atop The South Tower in the World Trade Center complex. Located in the Financial District, the original World Trade Center complex opened in 1973 and operated until its tragic destruction in 2001. The Twin Towers were once the tallest buildings in the entire world, and Kevin stands atop the South Tower with a magnificent view. It makes for a spectacular shot, but it also begs the question - how did he get up there?

Radio City Music Hall

Kevin also walks by Radio City Music Hall. Opened all the way back in 1932, Radio City Music Hall is one of the most famous entertainment venues in the entire world. Part of its charm and fame is undoubtedly due to its famous Art Deco exterior , adorned with giant RADIO CITY lettering and bright blue and yellow lights.

RELATED: Home Alone 3: 5 Funniest Traps (5 That Fall Flat)

Located within Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall was made a New York City Landmark in 1978 and has been spotted in dozens of movies and TV shows throughout the years.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

New York's greatest Christmas showcase is the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The first fifty-foot-tall Christmas tree was erected in 1933, and the accompanying skating rink was introduced in 1936. The skating rink remains in place to this day, and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree remains an annual landmark. In Home Alone 2 , Kevin visits the massive tree to ask for his family back and is warmly rewarded when his mother arrives, having known that Kevin has a fondness for Christmas trees.

Quong Yuen Shing & Co

Soon after arriving in New York City , Kevin visits the old Quong Yuen Shing & Co. While there, he purchases the fireworks that he would later use to signal the police. Located in Chinatown, Quong Yuen Shing & Co. originally opened in the late 19th century and sold various traditional goods like herbs and silks. Unfortunately, the store faced some financial difficulties following 9/11 and was forced to close.

Fulton Fish Market

Fulton Fish Market plays quite an important role in Home Alone 2 . Kevin briefly visits the famous market (and gets yelled at by a truck driver), and the Wet Bandits (now the Sticky Bandits) make their way into New York through the fish market by stowing away in a fish truck.

RELATED: Home Alone 1 & 2: 10 Worst Marv & Harry Injuries, Ranked

Located in The Bronx, the Fulton Fish Market was originally positioned near the Brooklyn Bridge, but it permanently moved locations in 2005. Even to this day, the Fulton Fish Market brings in up to $1 billion on an annual basis.

The Plaza Hotel

The Plaza Hotel plays a prominent role throughout Home Alone 2 , as it's where Kevin decides to stay (for a couple of nights anyway, before his ruse is discovered). Arguably the most famous hotel in the world, the Plaza is located in Midtown Manhattan and originally opened in October of 1907. The Plaza is well known for numerous aspects, including its general luxury, the French Renaissance chateau exterior, and its location next to Central Park .

Central Park

Speaking of Central Park, Kevin spends a good chunk of the movie within its boundaries. He walks through it after arriving in New York, he runs through it while fleeing the Sticky Bandits, he meets the Pigeon Lady after being run out of the Plaza, and it's where he lures the Wet Bandits and attracts the police with the fireworks. Easily one of the most beloved landmarks of the city, Central Park is perhaps the most famous park in the entire world.

Carnegie Hall

After fleeing the Plaza, Kevin seeks solace in Central Park and befriends the Pigeon Lady. After some talking, they decide to go somewhere warm and break into Carnegie Hall, where they are treated to a beautiful concert from the dusty and cluttered attic. Carnegie Hall is a world-renowned venue for classical music and used to house the New York Philharmonic before they moved to Lincoln Center's Philharmonic Hall in 1962. That same year it was deemed a National Historic Landmark.

This Is What New York City Looked Like 30 Years Ago In "Home Alone 2" Vs. Now In 2022

30 years ago he was just Macaulay Culkin... Now he's Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin! What a world.

Tori Honoré

BuzzFeed Staff

Are you ready to feel old? It's been 30 years since Home Alone 2: Lost In New York was first released!

That's right, three entire decades have passed since everyone's favourite mischievous 10-year-old got left behind at Christmas again, but this time with The Big Apple as a backdrop.

We all know that Home Alone 2 is iconic! It featured loads of landmarks throughout New York City that have obviously changed in the last 30 years — and I just so happened to have been invited to tour all of the major ones recently (in a limo fit for a Kevin)!

So let's go through the differences between nine of new york city's most-known and loved landmarks 30 years ago and now:.

And a big thanks to Disney+ for inviting me on this amazing tour!

1. Here's The Statue of Liberty in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Debuting in 1886, Lady Liberty was a youthful 106 years old back during the filming of Home Alone 2 . Made out of copper, it actually took around 10 years for sculptors, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and Gustave Eiffel (yes, that Eiffel), to complete the statue. Over the decades, she's oxidised from a brown to the instantly recognisable green that just about everyone knows her to be.

Here's how the statue was featured in Home Alone 2 in 1992 :

home alone lost in new york tour

For a brief moment, you get to see Kevin looking across the water at The Statue of Liberty through binoculars in Battery Park. Interestingly enough, those binoculars have actually been removed from the park since this was filmed. Now, the way to view Lady Liberty is by ferry to the island she resides, and obviously up close once you're there.

And here's The Statue of Liberty in 2022:

home alone lost in new york tour

While doing touristy things around Manhattan, I got to visit the great green beauty. You would never guess from its brief cameo in Home Alone 2 just how many people are lined up to see Lady Liberty! And correct me if I'm wrong, but at 136 years old now, does The Statue Of Liberty seem ~less~ green to anyone else?

2. The Queensboro Bridge in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Also known as the 59th Street Bridge, at the time of filming the movie, the Queensboro Bridge had been around for 83 years! It's been a faithful connection between Long Island City, Queens and Manhattan Island since 1909. It's as strong as steel because... well, it is steel!

How the bridge was featured in Home Alone 2:

home alone lost in new york tour

In the film, you see Kevin on the bridge for a moment just taking in the views from one New York borough to another! And as Manhattan gets closer in view, just about every Big Apple lover's excitement grows as well.

The Queensboro Bridge in 2022 (Now the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge):

home alone lost in new york tour

In 2011, the bridge was renamed slightly, to honour former New York City mayor, Ed Koch. The 1,135.2m long bridge sees around 145,000 vehicles crossing it every single day, not including the estimated 5,000 bicyclists and 1,900 walking pedestrians that are also travelling via the bridge.

3. Radio City Music Hall in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Named after the building's first tenant, the Radio Corporation of America, and headed by the Rockefellers — this building was completed in 1932 and declared a city landmark in 1978. The venue was built to provide high-brow entertainment to everyday people, and its very first variety show on December 27, 1932, solidified it as luxe. I mean it's the largest indoor theatre in the world after all.

How the building was featured in Home Alone 2 :

home alone lost in new york tour

Although the building was only featured behind Kevin while he took pictures of other things, its neon lights are just too recognisable to miss. Maybe nobody told the 10-year-old to respect the 60-year-old (at the time) musical landmark.

Radio City Music Hall in 2022:

home alone lost in new york tour

The Radio Corporation of America is now known today as NBC Radio City Studios. Much like in the film, most people simply walked past the bright signage and inviting Christmassy exterior because they're used to it — but I always find a little time to look at ~the pretty lights~. Plus, The Christmas Spectacular starring the Radio City Rockettes is almost 100 years old, and that's definitely something to stop and stare at!

4. Empire Diner in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Originally opening its doors as a Manhattan diner in 1976, this artist's hub in the Chelsea neighbourhood hasn't claimed legitimate landmark status yet — but it's definitely seen as a New York Landmark.

How the diner was featured in Home Alone 2:

home alone lost in new york tour

The film gives us just another glimpse moment with the restaurant, as Kevin is more interested in the Santa on stilts outside the establishment than the actual diner. Honestly, I would be too; except I know better than to just accept fliers from random people in Manhattan!

Empire Diner in 2022

home alone lost in new york tour

Today, the iconic diner is still standing despite closing during its original 35 years of business in 2010, reopening in 2014 and closing again in 2015, and then reopening again under new management in 2017 . The diner has definitely seen a lot, but one thing is certain, and that's that it's absolutely more important to try their food than it is to take fliers from people outside of the building!

5. Gapstow Bridge in Central Park in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Constructed in 1895, this 23.1 m long arch bridge resides in the south corner of Central Park. The bridge is almost camouflaged by the vines covering it, but it's always offered great views of the duck families that live in the pond or the Grand Army Plaza buildings, depending on where you're standing.

How the bridge was featured in Home Alone 2 :

home alone lost in new york tour

By the Gapstow Bridge is where we see Kevin initially get frightened by the unnamed "Pigeon Lady" and later befriend her. The film shows pretty good views of the bridge and the buildings in the distance, making it instantly identifiable.

Gapstow Bridge in 2022:

home alone lost in new york tour

One of the lingering examples of traditional architecture in New York City, the bridge still stands proud, now as more part of a Central Park jogger's journey. I didn't get to see any "pigeon people" when I was walking through the park and past the Gapstow — but I did see many ducks that I took the time to offer a bit of bird seed!

6. Carnegie Hall in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Since opening its doors in 1891, Carnegie Hall has stood as one of the most revered international musical venues in the world and home to many of the best artists globally. It originally took £906,211.90 (what would be £29,443,389.11 in 2022) to fund the construction of the building.

How the venue was featured in Home Alone 2:

home alone lost in new york tour

Carnegie Hall is where the "Pigeon Lady" takes Kevin as thank you for his kindness. We see a crawl space where the woman lives and see Kevin take in an orchestral performance from a spot by the stage lights (which I don't think is possible, but I've never been up there so I don't know).

Carnegie Hall in 2022:

home alone lost in new york tour

Today, Carnegie Hall is still one of the most beloved and respected music halls in the world, presenting around 200 performances from the most talented musical artists every season across its three grand stages. I'm super jealous of Kevin McCallister for getting to see a performance for free here!

7. Wollman Rink in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Funded by donation and constructed in 1949, this ice rink has been a long-standing winter favourite of Central Park visitors for decades. In its very first year of operation alone, the  ice rink garnered an impressive 300,000 skaters ready to enjoy in on the fun!

How the rink was featured in Home Alone 2 :

home alone lost in new york tour

We see the recently escaped Wet Bandits, Marv and Harry, convene at the ice rink in the film. Naturally, we get to see Marv fumble on the ice, as he's the sillier one in this villainous duo, while Harry opts to avoid getting on the ice altogether and reads the paper instead. To be fair, I agree with Harry's approach.

Wollman Rink in 2022:

home alone lost in new york tour

The ice rink is still going strong! Following the example it's led since its beginnings, the rink garners a massive amount of people daily — so much so, I'm surprised people get on the ice at all. During my visit to the Central Park attraction, the line to skate seemed to span a mile and involved a 50-minute wait. The rink is definitely still as popular as ever.

8. The Plaza Hotel in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

This landmark 20-story luxe hotel is totally iconic. Constructed in 1905 and opened in 1907, the hotel gets its name from residing on the West Side of the Grand Army Plaza. The building has spent over 100 years being known for its variety of famous and diplomatic residents, lush social events, and its appearances in many films.

How the hotel was featured in Home Alone 2 :

home alone lost in new york tour

Kevin ends up staying at this luxurious hotel; racking up quite the room service bill, might I add. The scenes featuring the hotel interior are actually some of the best glimpses into what the hotel looked like at the time, as photography and footage are not generally allowed given that a level of privacy obviously must be maintained.

The Plaza Hotel in 2022:

home alone lost in new york tour

Being able to stay a few nights here was an absolute dream! The interior now looks very different than it had 30 years ago, highlighting the major design changes in showcasing opulence over the last few decades. Although the colours red and green, and the use of wallpaper has been phased out for a "clean" mostly white look — everything is ~still~ gold trimmed. Like, please understand, MOST things at this hotel are gold... and it's a lot to take in (but in a good way).

9. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in the 1990s:

home alone lost in new york tour

Spanning a construction timeline of 11 years, Rockefeller Center itself is 22 acres of stores, restaurants, offices, and studios that takes up 19 commercial buildings in total. At the centre of this incredibly iconic attraction, is the annual Rockefeller Christmas Tree. The tree lighting ceremony has been happening since 1931, where during the beginnings of construction of the entire centre the first tree was put up as a sign of pride and happiness during The Great Depression in America.

How the tree was featured in Home Alone 2 :

home alone lost in new york tour

Towards the end of the film, Kevin is seen making a Christmas wish by the lit Christmas tree before being serendipitously reunited with his mother. Even in the film, the Rockefeller Christmas Tree served its original purpose as a sign of hope, beauty, and pure Christmas magic!

The Rockefeller Christmas Tree in 2022:

home alone lost in new york tour

While the original tree was a 20 ft tall Balsam Fir, today the annual tree is a Norway Spruce that stands between 75 and 90 ft tall. It's still as beautiful and large as ever, and something that puts a huge smile on my face every year. The tree may change, but the happiness it brings sure doesn't! (And the lights are also mostly the same.)

It was amazing to tour NYC and not only learn about how these landmarks have been maintained over the decades but also just to see how beautiful they are! I'd definitely recommend getting "lost in New York" to anyone who has the chance! (Except please don't actually get lost! We have better technology than Kevin did 30 years ago!!)

If you'd like to see more of my trip — i made a fun video on where i got to go where would you love to visit on a home alone 2 tour.

New York City's Plaza Hotel is offering newlyweds a unique opportunity to step into the cinematic world of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York .

The luxury hotel, located on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, has introduced an immersive honeymoon experience that will allow couples to "get lost in New York, Kevin McCallister-style," according to a press release .

The package features a range of fun activities designed to recreate some of the most memorable scenes from the 1992 holiday sequel, which depicts main character Kevin ( Macaulay Culkin ) once again getting separated from his family and having a solo adventure in the Big Apple.

Honeymooners will kick off their Plaza stay with a scenic limousine tour that will make stops at famous filming locations from the movie, including Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, Central Park, Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Guests can live out Kevin's iconic limo ride by dining on a hot cheese pizza during their tour around the city. After the sightseeing excursion, couples will return to the hotel to enjoy another Kevin fantasy: an epic, 16-scoop ice cream sundae with all the toppings delivered right to their bed.

The Home Alone 2 honeymoon experience, which is available year-round, must be booked three days in advance of a stay at the hotel. The cost varies depending on the room type.

More than 30 years after the original Home Alone movie first premiered in 1990, Culkin, 43, was finally honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this month. At the ceremony on Dec. 1, the former child actor enjoyed an emotional reunion with his onscreen mom, Catherine O'Hara , who gave a touching speech on his behalf.

" Home Alone  was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation ... the reason families all over the world can't let a year go by without watching and loving  Home Alone  together is because of Macaulay Culkin," O'Hara, 69, told the audience, praising a then-10-year-old Culkin's breakout performance.

" I know you worked really hard, I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do," she told Culkin.

O'Hara concluded her heartfelt speech, "Macaulay, congratulations. You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I'm so proud of you."

The pair then shared a hug, and Culkin could be seen wiping away tears before he took to the podium himself.

"Thanks for all your kind words and your stories and stuff. You know, you made my kids' dad, their papa, look good," the My Girl star in his speech, referring to the two sons he shares with fiancée Brenda Song . "And the most important thing to me is also that their papa understands that he wasn't always a papa; he used to be a kid too, you know?"

He concluded with a lighthearted callback to one of his iconic lines of dialogue from the movie: "To wrap things up, and in the spirit of the holiday season, I just wanna say, 'Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.' "

The definitive guide to ‘Home Alone 2’ filming locations in NYC

The Christmas classic was filmed all over Manhattan

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is one of those sequels that very well might live up to, or even surpass, its progenitor. Why? Instead of taking place in the suburbs of Chicago , the beloved 1992 classic is a romp around the holiday season’s most festive city: New York.

In the John Hughes-Chris Columbus collaboration, Macaulay Culkin returns as maligned youngest child Kevin McCallister, separated from his family once again during what’s supposed to be the happiest time of the year. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are back as bad guys Harry and Marv, recently escaped from prison and out to steal some cash from a toy store on Christmas—before they run into Kevin in the Big Apple and decide to seek revenge from the precocious kid’s prior-year high jinks instead.

From the Plaza and Central Park to the World Trade Center and an under-renovation townhouse, what follows is the ultimate geographic guide to where Home Alone 2 is set across New York City. And hey: Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.

The Plaza Hotel is inviting you to live like you’ve gotten lost in New York .

Available through the new year, the iconic Manhattan hotel is offering an exclusive Home Alone 2: Lost in New York stay for anyone itching to experience a good cheese pizza , monstrous sundae, and limo ride around the city like little Kevin McCallister in the movie. Of course, for the ultimate cinematic experience, the spirited deal should be taken advantage of now during Christmas time in the Big Apple.

Titled Home Alone 2: Fun in New York , The Plaza is offering to chauffeur guests on a four-hour-long limousine ride around the city, specifically hitting all the iconic film spots such as Rockefeller Center, Central Park, the Empire State Building, and Radio City Music Hall. However, the joy ride won’t be a guided tour.

What’s more, a piping hot cheese pie will be readily available to snack on during the ride, and if you’ve still got room to eat when you get back, an “over-the-top ice cream sundae” will be delivered to your room with “one of those little refrigerators you have to open with a key”.

The Home Alone sundae isn’t just one or two scoops, the entire bowl will consist of 16 scoops from an assortment of flavours and include “whipped cream, maraschino cherries, M&M’s, brownie bits, chocolate, caramel, and raspberry sauce”.

As of now, there is no set minimum price for this special offer. Room size and availability will factor into the total cost. However, if you wish to book the Kevin McCallister stay, guests must specify they want to secure this package three days before their desired check-in date.

All bookings need to be made through The Plaza website. Third-party sites and reservations won’t apply.

“Offer valid for new bookings only, is not applicable to group bookings and cannot be combined with other offers,” the hotel’s website reads.

The Home Alone 2 special comes at a significant time for the lead cast member Macaulay Culkin, as he just received a star in his honour on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . On 1 December, the 43-year-old father was joined by his two sons, long-time partner Brenda Song, and one of his esteemed colleagues, Catherine O’Hara, to accept the renowned recognition.

O’Hara, who played Culkin’s mother in the original film series, graciously congratulated Culkin on the achievement.

“Thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once, but twice, to share in this happy occasion,” she said in her heartfelt speech. “I’m so proud of you. I know you worked really hard. I know you did.”

“But you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do,” O’Hara continued. “It really was as if we had ambushed the home of this real little boy named Kevin to make a movie and he just went along with it for the fun of it. It’s the dearest thing.”

During Culkin’s remarks, the My Girl star expressed gratitude for his family, having just welcomed a second son in December 2022.

“I’d like to thank Brenda. You’re absolutely everything,” Culkin confessed. “You’re the best person I’ve ever known. And after the birth of our two boys, you’ve become one of my three favourite people.”

The special day marked the first time Culkin and Song’s children were introduced to the public.

HOME ALONE TOUR

We were on Honeymoon and love Home Alone 2, so decided to take a look around Central park, and found various parts that were filmed there, beautiful park, very well kept, loads of different things going on, lots of fun, huge walking distances if you want too.

What an amazing young man! Tour was historic! Bashir is intelligent beyond belief! Made us feel like royalty!! Sooo blessed to have found him!

home alone lost in new york tour

A must do in New York! You can spend an entire day here it's so big! Horse & carriage ride was delightful!

This place is amazing, I could spend hrs o even the whole day walking around or just seating watching the people moving around and feeling the fresh air.

You can probably forget covering the whole park in one walk. There’s too much else to do in the city to justify that much time, but you can probably make it out to the lake and back to your hotel regardless of what side of the park your hotel is on if you stay nearby.

This is my all time favorite place to visit during the Christmas Season. Love the carriage ride in the snow

The Plaza Hotel now offers a ‘Home Alone’ limo and pizza experience

A storied New York property is now offering fans of an iconic Christmas comedy the opportunity to live the motion picture’s plot in real time.

“Get lost in New York, Kevin McCallister-style,” begins a post by Fairmont , which manages Manhattan’s landmark Plaza Hotel, about a new experience based on the hit 1992 flick “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.”

The itinerary is based on the shenanigans that protagonist Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) gets up to in the film. It begins with a four-hour private limousine ride around the city to visit the movie’s famous filming locations, including the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Carnegie Hall, and Radio City Music Hall.

The limo ride, the fine print notes, is “not a guided tour.”

As well, the “limo color may vary,” but the offer does promise that riders will be provided with their “very own delicious hot cheese pizza,” so as to make their reliving of Kevin’s famous limo pizza scene more historically accurate.

“After you’ve visited all the sightseeing locales Kevin saw, and returned to your room with ‘one of those little refrigerators you have to open with a key,’ make yourself cozy in your ‘extra large bed,’ Kevin-style, and call down for your over-the-top ice cream sundae delivered right to your bed,” the offer continues, quoting Kevin.

Guests must book the package — which is available year-round — directly with the Plaza, and a minimum of three days before checking in.

The Post has reached out to confirm the price of the experience, which is not publicly listed, and is in addition to the rate of a room. Prices range from slightly under $1,000 to over $32,000 for a 2,500-square-foot, two-bedroom grand penthouse suite with a terrace.

In addition to featuring significantly in “Home Alone 2,” the Plaza is also a beloved architectural marvel, completed in the early 20th century and designed to look like a chateau from the French Renaissance.

How Well Do You Know 'Home Alone 2: Lost New York'?

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which was released Nov. 20, 1992.

The sequel to 1990’s Home Alone , the film again follows Macaulay Culkin’s  Kevin McCallister after he is left behind, this time in New York City, when his family goes on vacation. Kevin gets into a series of hijinks when he encounters Harry and Marv , the robbers from the first film, and must outwit them a second time.

Raking in $359 million at the worldwide box office, the film further certified Culkin as a star and made him a household name, even though critics didn’t love it. There would be three more Home Alone movies made, but without Culkin and the original cast. ( Click here to see what the cast has been up to since the 1992 movie’s release.)

In honor of the movie, which Fox Home Entertainment is honoring with a 25th Anniversary Edition this month, how well do you remember Home Alone 2 ?

New York itinerary: Home Alone locations guide

New York itinerary: Home Alone locations guide

We challenge you: visit all the places that little kevin did in the “home alone” movies.

Whoever is not familiar with the adventures of the McCallister family during the 90’s was either not born yet or just skipped through a decade of Christmases without watching one of the most emblematic Christmas-themed comedies. To cut a long story short – in the first movie when Kevin McCallister is forgotten by his family (and it’s a huge family, no wonder why he got left behind) in their house, all alone for Christmas, while they struggle to race back before something happens to him. In the second Home Alone movie things get a little bit hectic. Kevin hasn’t been forgotten but instead, accidentally boards a plane to New York instead of his familys destination, Florida.

View from the La Guardia airport

The first scene we see from New York in the movie is the view from LaGuardia airport . A huge panoramic shot that displays the famous Empire State Building, along with all the skyscrapers piercing the sky.

The Queensboro bridge , which Kevin crosses in a cab, connects the two biggest parts of the city – Queens and Manhattan.  It is an iconic location for New York because of its central position in the city. Battery Park is a place on the south side of New York that gives a clear view to the Statue of Liberty. The place has a rich film résumé. “Men in Black”, “Wall Street”, “She’s The One” and many other movies include a scene in this location. The World Trade Centre, Radio City Hall and South Street in Manhattan can be seen briefly in the movie.

Plaza Hotel in New York

Still early in the story, Kevin goes to The Plaza Hotel which is situated at number 750, 5th avenue and Central Park South, Manhattan. It was opened on October 1st, 1907 and is famous for providing residence to presidents, ambassadors, movie stars, musicians and many others. “Almost Famous” and “The Great Gatsby” are just some of the movie titles that feature the legendary hotel in their respective sets. A fun fact – in the movie “Home Alone 2” when Kevin enters the hotel, he is guided to the lobby by current US president and one time owner of the hotel, Donald Trump.

home alone lost in new york tour

A view from Central Park

A good portion of footage in the movie is based in Central Parк. It is considered to be one of the most filmed locations in the world, and the most visited urban park in the United States in 2013, with over 40 million visitors annually. The renovations have been constantly ongoing for over 30 years now. Central Park has been classified as a national historical landmark since 1962. The park is a similar size to London’s Hyde Park and it has been used as an inspiration for young architects to create similar parks around the world. The Central Park Zoo, “Tavern of The Green” (an indoor restaurant), the Delacorte theatre and the Bethesda terrace and fountain are some of the places worth visiting while taking a walk through these historical patches of grass.

Later on we see Kevin hiding in the attic at Carnegie Hall along with another character he meets throughout the movie (not giving out spoilers). Carnegie Hall is a concert venue situated in the centre of Manhattan. It is one of the most prestigious scenes for performing classical music. When it was built in 1891, the first ever concert was conducted by Walter Damrosch and no other than the Russian composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tschaikovsky. Apart from classical music, jazz concerts also have had a frequent exposure in the venue.

A view of Times Square by night

And last but not least, Times Square . Who hasn’t seen a picture of this location during the night with all the billboards and commercials shining brighter than a thousand suns? It is one of the world’s most visited tourist places with around 50 million visitors per year and 300 to 400 thousand people per day, passing by one the busiest intersections in the world. Madam Tussauds Wax Museum, the former Paramount theatre building, Times Square Church and Ed Sullivan Theatre are just some of the places to set foot into. And, of course, you can’t miss the chance  to  enjoy Broadway shows like  The Music Man musical,  Wicked, or The Phantom of the Opera  in Time Square. The restaurant row, located on west 46h street, provides home to a variety of restaurants that feature cuisines from all around the world. Thai, Spanish, French, Brazilian, Japanese, Italian and a whole lot more different dishes are to be expected among the food joints.

To make it easier for you, we made a map with the locations in our article:

A movie fanatic or not, you cannot deny that New York has a special vibe when it comes to movies. “The Family Man”, “Good Fellas”, “Metropolitan”, “Scent of a Woman”, “The Usual Suspects”, “The Devil’s Advocate’, “Leon: The Professional”, “Scarface”, “Wall Street”, “Ghostbusters”, “Hitch” and many, many more! The unique style of the city makes it an must-see destination for any traveller!

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Some day scholars will devote courses to the monstrous box office allure of the original "Home Alone," which, at the time, surprised even Fox. Still, you needn't be able to explain success to know not to tamper with it, so for a sequel the studio has simply re-made the first movie, only with bigger pratfalls. Pic delivers on that level and will doubtless be another huge holiday draw, but the law of diminishing returns dictates it should fall well short of its predecessor.

Some day scholars will devote courses to the monstrous box office allure of the original “Home Alone,” which, at the time, surprised even Fox. Still, you needn’t be able to explain success to know not to tamper with it, so for a sequel the studio has simply re-made the first movie, only with bigger pratfalls. Pic delivers on that level and will doubtless be another huge holiday draw, but the law of diminishing returns dictates it should fall well short of its predecessor.

For one thing, the filmmakers have made a minor miscalculation in terms of length, padding the screen time by nearly 20 minutes to two hours–not a great idea considering that a big portion of the audience is very young kids.

For another, one reason “Home Alone” became such an enormous hit–a lack of children’s fare when it was released–isn’t true this time out, with Disney’s superior animated epic “Aladdin” likely to pull away some of the repeat business that drove “Home’s” box office real estate over the $ 250 million plateau.

Popular on Variety

Finally, adults may be a bit less patient with the more saccharine aspects of the story–which at times feel forced to fit the original mold–as well as the absurd series of coincidences necessary to set up the cartoon-style payoff.

Aside from the lack of like-themed competition, as near as anyone can tell “Home Alone” be-

came a monster blockbuster for three basic reasons: It represents the ultimate child’s fantasy about outsmarting adults; all the grown-ups within it were cartoonishly broad, as was most of the humor; and it offered all the requisite Christmas-time elements, down to John Williams’ sentimental score.

Writer-producer John Hughes and director Chris Columbus thoroughly recycle that material, down to having Kevin (Macaulay Culkin, the child turned cottage industry) overcome his fear and befriend a foreboding adult who provides his eventual salvation–in this case, a helpful homeless lady (Brenda Fricker) roaming Central Park.

At the start Kevin, provoked by his older brother, once again finds himself in the doghouse just before a family vacation, this time accidentally boarding the wrong plane and ending up in New York.

Meanwhile, the inept thieves from the first movie, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, have broken out of prison and, conveniently, escaped in a truck that arrives in New York about the same time Kevin does.

Using his dad’s credit card, Kevin checks into a ritzy hotel, where he finds more adults to outwit, in this case a snooty concierge (Tim Curry) as well as his equally haughty staff. Ultimately, however, it’s again Kevin vs. the two bad guys, setting up an elaborate series of traps at his uncle’s home–the uncle of course being out of town, the place being remodeled and thus loaded with all sorts of pain-inflicting gadgets.

Hughes and company, too, are in the construction business, essentially rebuilding the same house with bigger windows, an inflated budget (reportedly $ 40 million to $ 50 million with all the puffed-up salaries) and, if possible, a sappier outlook.

Under Columbus’ careful direction Culkin proves an effective Everykid, while Kevin’s parents and relatives remain as cartoonish as the villains, with Pesci and Stern hamming it up as the Wile E. Coyotes to Culkin’s Roadrunner.

Those action sequences are well-choreographed, if, perhaps, too mean-spirited even in light of their cartoonish nature.

Tech credits are sound, from the photography to the amusing design of his family’s nightmarish Florida motel.

10 Fun Facts About ‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’

By jon o'brien | dec 24, 2022.

Macaulay Culkin in 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' (1992).

Alongside The Godfather Part II , Toy Story 2 , and Paddington 2 , Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is on that exclusive list of sequels which prove that cinematic lightning can strike twice. The 1992 caper not only replicated the original movie ’s winning combination of holiday cheer, criminal family neglect, and slapstick violence inflicted by a hugely resourceful, if slightly sociopathic, tween, it also upped the ante with a trip to a snow-capped Big Apple, a Mary Poppins -esque bird lady, and Tim Curry delivering possibly cinema’s finest evil grin .

Thirty years after Kevin McCallister unleashed his second reign of booby-trapped terror, here’s a look at 10 facts about the festive favorite.

1. Joe Pesci suffered for his art.

Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern in 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' (1992).

Several experts have determined that The Wet Bandits would have died in real life from the torrent of injuries suffered at the hands of their pre-teen nemesis. While Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern thankfully managed to walk away from the Home Alone franchise with their lives intact, the former did experience one particularly hair-raising moment—literally. As the motor-mouthed funnyman revealed to People decades later, he sustained serious burns to the top of his head while filming one of two scenes in which Harry’s hat is set ablaze.

2. Daniel Stern suffered, too.

While reprising his role of the hapless Marv Murchins, Stern learned that there’s truth to the old adage, “Never work with children or animals” when he endured the trauma of a pigeon flying directly into his mouth. Alongside Pesci, the actor found himself covered from head to toe in birdseed before hundreds of the trained creatures were let loose for the hilarious attack. But one particular bird made a beeline for Stern, suggesting that Marv’s girly scream was very much for real.

3. Donald Trump bullied his way into a cameo.

We didn’t—and couldn’t possibly—know it at the time, but Home Alone 2 ensured that Ronald Reagan wouldn't be the only POTUS to have some acting credits to his name when it gave a cameo to Donald Trump. Well, "gave” probably isn’t the right word. Director Christopher Columbus later revealed he was essentially railroaded into handing the future president a speaking role in return for use of his Plaza Hotel.

In 2021, Culkin famously joined growing calls for Trump’s one line (“down the hall and to the left”) to be cut from the movie. But Columbus revealed that test audiences actually cheered at the sight of the real estate magnate back in 1992.

4. The movie marked a major payday for Macaulay Culkin.

Culkin was a virtual unknown when he was cast as Kevin McCallister in 1990’s Home Alone , which explains why his salary for fronting a family-friendly Hollywood caper was a relatively meager $110,000. Of course, with his Golden Globe-nominated, star-making performance helping the original film become the highest-grossing live-action comedy of all time at the time, the child star was able to command a much bigger paycheck the second time around. In fact, Culkin received a whopping 4000 percent pay rise for Lost in New York , with his $4.5 million earnings topped off with a significant cut of the movie’s $359 million gross .

5. Culkin’s father caused a major headache for the studio.

Kit Culkin, Macaulay’s father/manager, was well-known for causing trouble behind the scenes, and Lost in New York was no exception. Kit Culkin practically held 20th Century Fox for ransom by threatening to take his son out of the Home Alone franchise unless they gave him the leading role in the horror movie The Good Son . Recognizing that the sequel wouldn’t work without the original Kevin McCallister, the studio caved to Kit’s demands. In 1993, Macaulay Culkin could be seen playing another psychopathic tween—only this time one who does actually tip over the edge into murder.

6. The Talkboy was originally only a prop.

The Talkboy , which was used (among other things) to fool Tim Curry’s Grinch-like concierge into thinking that Kevin’s irascible uncle is using the shower, became one of the must-have Christmas presents of 1993. But the cassette recorder didn’t actually exist until John Hughes willed it into existence. Yes, the scriptwriter was adamant that Kevin should have a top-of-the-range new toy to help wreak havoc across New York and so 20th Century Fox’s marketing team joined forces with Tiger Electronics to create a non-working prop. The film’s success inspired the latter company to release a model for real which allowed kids across America to wreak havoc on their own homes.

7. Michael Jackson visited the set several times.

In 1991, a year after Home Alone arrived in theaters, Culkin appeared in the video for Michael Jackson’s "Black or White” and the two developed a friendship. That same year, the King of Pop also showed up announced several times during the filming of Lost In New York . Set decorator Daniel Clancy later revealed how Jacko took the child star out for dinner in a limo in-between takes, while Devin Ratray, a.k.a. Kevin’s domineering older brother Buzz, disclosed how he also rocked up to rehearsals at the McCallister family’s Chicago home one ice-cold February morning.

8. You can step into Kevin McCallister’s shoes.

The 1-800-759-3000 number used for The Plaza Hotel in the film was the same in real life. So, to capitalize on all the interested parties that phoned it, the establishment began offering a Home Alone Experience . Fans with McCallister kind of money can still book a room similar to Kevin’s in the movie, complete with “one of those little refrigerators you have to open with a key;” tour some of the movie's locations, including Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, and Radio City Music Hall in a limo and enjoy the young mischief-maker’s ultimate food heaven, a large cheese pizza.

9. Duncan’s Toy Chest doesn’t exist.

Be prepared for your childhood illusions to be shattered: the magical toy shop where Kevin is gifted a pair of ceramic turtle doves (just what every kid wants, obviously) and which he saves from a Wet Bandits robbery doesn’t exist in real life. Duncan’s Toy Chest (which was named in honor of Duncan Henderson, the film’s executive producer) was an entirely fictional one based on F.A.O. Schwarz’s flagship store in Manhattan. Its exterior shots were taken outside Chicago’s Rookery Building, also the same property used in The Untouchables as the headquarters of Kevin Costner’s Prohibition agent Eliot Ness.

10. It originally had a different title.

Lost in New York is certainly more descriptive than Alone Again , the title originally bandied about by producers. But director Chris Columbus argued that it sounded more like a remake than a sequel (he also reportedly cut a scene where Kevin trying on some aftershave over fears that the film would be seen as a mere rehash of the original). But the most detailed title undoubtedly belongs to the French release , Maman, j’ai encore raté l’avion, which translated to , “Mom, I Missed the Plane Again.”

The film follows the misadventures of Kevin McCallister, a young boy who finds himself alone in New York City during Christmas time. Throughout the movie, Kevin encounters various obstacles and ultimately outsmarts two burglars, Harry and Marv, who are determined to rob a toy store on Christmas Eve.

As the film reaches its climax, Kevin devises an elaborate plan to trap Harry and Marv inside a vacant house that is under renovation. He sets up an array of booby traps to deter the burglars and protect his newfound friends from the toy store. The traps are comically over-the-top and result in hilarious yet painful consequences for Harry and Marv.

In the final scene of the movie, Kevin’s family arrives in New York City just in time for Christmas morning. They had been desperately searching for him after realizing he was left behind during their vacation to Miami. The reunion between Kevin and his family is heartwarming, as they embrace each other with tears of joy.

What makes this ending so special is not just the reunion itself, but also the underlying message it conveys. Throughout the film, Kevin yearns for independence and desires to be treated like an adult. However, as he navigates through the challenges of being alone in a big city, he realizes the importance of family and cherishing those closest to him.

The ending serves as a reminder that no matter how capable or independent we may feel, our loved ones are irreplaceable. It emphasizes the significance of family bonds and how they can provide comfort and support during difficult times. Kevin’s journey teaches us that sometimes we need to experience solitude or face adversity to truly appreciate what we have.

Additionally, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York showcases the power of resourcefulness and resilience. Despite being just a young boy, Kevin manages to outsmart two experienced burglars using his wit and creativity. This serves as an empowering message for viewers of all ages, reminding us that we are capable of overcoming challenges when we think outside the box.

In conclusion, the ending of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York beautifully wraps up the film’s themes of family, independence, and resilience. It highlights the importance of cherishing our loved ones and appreciating the support they provide. The movie continues to be a beloved holiday classic because it resonates with audiences on a deeper level, reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas and the value of our relationships.
